2. Question 1 – How old are you?
Question 1
13-15
16-19
20+
When I asked this question I found
that the majority of the people that
filled out my questionnaire were
teenagers specifically aged 16-19.
When planning my own music
magazine I will take this into
consideration and use it to think about
my target audience.

I can see from my results
that the majority of the
people that filled out my
questionnaire were female.
This could lead to a more
stereotypically biased
outcome.

For this question, I asked the
people filling out my
questionnaire to pick more
than one colour if they felt
necessary. The most popular
colours were equally red and
white. This shows that on
average people associate red
and white with the Indie
genre. This may be that these
are the colours that would be
most aesthetically pleasing.
5. Question 4 – How often do you buy
music magazines?
Question 4
Never
Weekly
Monthly
Occasionally
Most people that I asked this question to
had never bought a music magazine and
mentioned that they wouldn’t buy them
now. They proceeded to complete the
questionnaire as if they did buy music
magazines to help me with my research. I
have also found that a lot of people like to
buy music magazines weekly. This surprised
me as many music magazines published are
sold monthly. The people that said they
bought music magazine monthly were a
small portion of the group that I asked.
There were also a lot of people that only
bought music magazines occasionally. This
could have been that they saw their
favourite band or artist on the cover. This
section is almost equal to the portion of
people that said they buy these magazines
weekly.

My results show that people would be more
willing to pay £3.50-£4 for a music magazine
which is a high price range, or pay £1.50-£2
which is a low price range for music
magazines. Most music magazines that I
have researched all cost a higher amount of
money due to the fact that they are al quite
well known. Even the people who don’t buy
music magazines ever could name many
because of the popularity of them. Not
many people chose the option ‘£2.50-£3’. I
found this surprising because I would have
expected this option to be the most popular.
I thought that this option would be popular
because it is a reasonable price to ask.
Perhaps the reason for people choosing the
higher price range is because they expect a
music magazine to priced around this
amount anyway.
7. Question 6 – Who is your favourite
band/artist at the moment?
Question 6
Muse
Biffy Clyro
Foo fighters
Jason derulo
One direction
JLS
Take that
I gave a wide variety of options for this
question as I knew that not everyone I asked
would like the same genre of music. I gave the
options Muse, Biffy Clyro and Foo fighters for
the people that would enjoy Indie/Rock music.
Then I added Jason Derulo, One direction, JLS
and Take that for the people that prefer pop
music. My results show that the highest rated
band/artist was Muse.
8. Question 7 – What do you like most
about music magazines?
Most people when
Question 7
Free posters
Tour information
Information about
upcoming artists
Exclusive interviews
The results for this question were very
similar. People seem generally more
interested in a music magazine if they
get free posters, tour information and
exclusive interviews from famous
bands. People did not seem to be
bothered about reading articles about
upcoming artists. It seems that the
majority of the people I asked liked the
free posters in the magazine the most.
9. Question 8 – What images would you
expect to see on the front cover of an
Indie music magazine?

I gave the people who answered
my questionnaire a range of
choices from images that I expect
to see on these magazines. They
then picked more than one image
that they would expect to see on
the front cover of an Indie music
magazine. People mostly
expected to see bands on the
front covers. People least expect
to see fans of bands or artists on
the front covers.
10. Question 9 – Are you more likely to
buy the magazine if there is free
posters inside?
Question 9
Yes
No
Most people would buy a magazine if
there was a free poster inside. This is
not surprising because the people
who would buy this magazine think
they are gaining something for free
when in fact they have paid for the
magazine anyway which covers the
cost of the poster. I further
investigated this and found out that
people would prefer these posters to
be of well known bands or artists
that they are more likely to have
heard of. Not many people said they
wouldn’t buy a magazine even if
there was a free poster inside.

Concert tickets

Something signed by
the band/artist
The main prize that people would
like to win is concert tickets. This
gives people a chance to go to an
event that they would enjoy for
free. The chance of winning may
be slim but the people that I
asked said that they would enter
anyway. Less than 5 people said
that they would like to be able to
win band or artists merchandise.
The minority of people would like
to win something signed by the
band or artist.
