2. • I have decided that the music magazine genre I will be doing is Indie and
alternative. In this PowerPoint I will be looking at the different music
magazines that are aimed at people that are into music that consist of
bands that fit into the genre Indie/Alternative. I could put on the front of
my magazine are bands like Arctic Monkeys, My Chemical Romance, The
Enemy, Joy Division and Kasabian.
3. I have chosen Indie/Alternative music as
my desired genre. I have chosen this
subject as it is my favourite style of music. I
looked at magazines such as Q and NME to
analyse the conventions of these
magazines. Most indie magazines are
cluttered out with a close up image of a
person. These images are very dominating
and show the power of the artist not only
to the magazine but to the music industry
in the genre of music they play.
The magazines under this genre usually
use colours that are very bold and stand
out. The primary colour in the colour
scheme is red. I know this because it is the
colour that is mainly used in the logo. Red
could be seen as representing passion
which is shown in the music they play. The
other colours that are seen on the covers
are black and white. These colours are
used as they are contrasting but the
connotations of the black is used to
express the music and how it is quite
grunge like and links to the colour of the
clothes they wear on the image.
The text used on the headlines are very
bold and easy to read. The text is also very
similar to the text that features in the logo.
Also they use text that looks like it has
been handwritten as well as having quotes
from artists in the magazine.
4. Audience
• My music magazine will appeal to people in the groups B, C1, C2, D and E.
The age that I am aiming my magazine at is people aged 16-30. I have
done this as it is then aimed at a wider range of people meaning that I
won’t be segregating people. This magazine will probably not have a
secondary audience meaning that it won’t be similar to the school
magazine as the school magazine has different things for different age
categories. My magazine will focus on all topics which will cover all of my
audience.
