2. Genre
• I will be doing a music magazine based on the
genre of indie and alternative. In this
PowerPoint I will be looking at the different
music magazines that are aimed at people
that are into music that consists of bands that
fit into the genre indie/alternative. I will use a
picture of my friend to represent the genre of
indie/alternative on my front cover and the
style.
3. Examples of previous magazines in the
genre of my choice and conventions
My genre will be indie/alternative inspired by already
established magazines such as; Kerrang, NME. These sorts of
magazines are cluttered with information. Most of the
magazines have a medium close –up image, it also shows the
people on the images looking into your eyes, which shows
that the magazine is directed at the reader. The images
consist of people who are in the bands or singers of the type
of music genre. Since the images are shown close up, it
shows the dominance of the singer/band in the
indie/alternative charts.
The magazines used red colours and white and black for many
of the colour schemes, this shows the expression of music
and the danger that it involves for the red colour, it also
shows the expressing the grunge like apparel of the band due
to the fashion chosen by both the audience and the
performer, white shows that the music is as it is they express
feelings and emotion straight to the point.
The text is shown in big and in the centre of the magazines to
show importance and the names of the singers are in big text
to show more importance.
4. Audience
• The target audience for my magazine is for the groups B,C1,C2
and D and E and also the income and occupation scales ages
16-30, this makes it widely accessible to the community and
demonstrates limited segregation. This style of magazine is
unlikely you have a secondary audience and therefore the
magazine will not have noticeable differences of which you
would see on a school magazine such as; consent forms and
parents evenings also ways in which the parent can help their
child at home. My magazine will focus on all topics which will
cover all audiences.
