Q2

  1. 1. Q2. How does your media product represent particular social groups? Before I began my music magazine I needed to think up a target audience, I personallyaimed my magazine at teenagers ranging from 15-21, so from young teens to late This is the photo I used for myteens, who specifically are into indie music. front cover When I designed my magazine I wanted to incorporate things that I felt may apply to the target audience. I thought this should be a fairly easy thing to do as I myself range in this group and I like indie music. I think my images are mostly the main reason my magazine appeals to my target audience. I believe this because the way I am showing the people in my magazine to be is to seem half way between casual and dressed up, I didn’t want to make it look like they didn’t care about the way they look and I didn’t want it to look they are really over-dressing, but just to give them a certain indie look. I think wearing a cardigan instead of a tight-fitted dressThis is an example of an indie really represents how an indie model looks. Anmodel. example of an female indie model is someone who has nose piercings, stretchers, big bush like hair, lots of eye-makeup and other make up etc. Which my model seems to have most of these features. I also made sure that I used a range of colours on my front cover to make the cover more attractive. I stuck to three main colours which were, black, white and red. I chose to use these three colours because they are the main colours in indie/rock magazines similar to mine and that those three colours go well together. I think using three colour seems to be the best choice, because using more than this number makes magazines begin to look tacky or like a child’s magazine.
  2. 2. Another way my magazine represents teenagers of A problem with my magazine is that looking at it, itthis age, is the information that is supplied on the seems to only appeal to people that like Indiefront cover it lists things such as, festivals, which I music, this means that less sales will be made ifthink would appeal to people of a younger such as people who like other genres, such as RnB look at itteenagers, than someone of 30 years old+. Or the and feel it is not for them. This may be a problem asgreatest line up ever would again suggest my magazine may have quite a niche audiencesomething to do with festivals. I think if a teenager being a indie magazine, because though indie musicread this they would think that looks pretty good I’ll is quite popular music, it is still not as popular asread what’s in the magazine. I tried to supply as maybe RnB, Dance or Pop which may appeal tomuch information as I could so the reader would more people than Indie music.know what to expect inside and without making themagazine looking cluttered and tacky. Looking at feedback on my magazine itseems that teenagers (who like indie music) do This is the photo I used for my contentsseem to like my magazine, however when I page.asked people who didn’t like Indie music, thefeedback was obviously not as positive as theprevious feedback. But people who like indiemusic seem to like my magazine, thereforeappeal to my target audience. This is the photo I used for my double page spread
