2. One main thing I used to attract
my audience was use of colour
throughout the magazine.
Before creating my magazine my
audience filled out questionnaires
about professional indie
magazines. One of my questions
asked ‘What would you expect an
indie rock magazines colour
scheme to be?’ and the majority
of people answered wit ‘Dark
colours’. Therefore, when creating
my front cover, contents page and
double page spread I used red,
black and white because these are
quite dark colours, went well with
my central image and brick
background.
3. I used different images to attract my
audience. The central image on my
front cover uses direct address and this
draws the audience into looking more
at the magazine. The clothes she is
wearing are indie therefore this will
make the audience want to look at the
magazine.
The 2 musician images on my contents
page show an indie style of music
because of the use of guitars. This
attracts the audience because it links in
with the music.
The other image on my contents page
show a radio station which addresses
the audience as it’s a north/west
magazine and ‘Radio City’ can be
generalised with the indie audience
reading it. The Coldplay butterfly album
image attracts the audience because it
links with the Coldplay news feature.
My double page spread image of Ben
Ward attracts my audience because it
links in with the article and is showing
off an indie style.
4. The Coverlines on my front cover attract my
indie audience because I have mentioned indie
bands and artists such as Ed Sheeran, Florence
and the Machine and The Kooks. In my
audience questionnaires the audience said
Coverlines were one of the main thing that
attracted them and made the magazine
interesting. The colours and font style of the
Coverlines also attracted the audience because
they stood out and easy to read.
5. Codes and Conventions
I have used and followed the Codes and Conventions of a music
magazine throughout my front cover, contents page and double page
spread because it helps attract the audience. Using Codes and
Conventions also means my magazine is correct and looks like a real
music magazine.
How I used and followed the Codes and Conventions:
- Used lots of Coverlines for my front cover and made them stand
out in their own style of font.
- Made my masthead stand out in its own individual font and also
linked it to the genre of the magazine.
- Used direct address for my central image.
- Stuck to the 3 column rule on my contents page.
- Stuck to the 6 column rule on my double page spread.
