Characteristics of Multimedia
According to Fetterman & Gupta digital
multimedia is defined as integration of
up to six media types.multimedia is any
combination of
text,graphic,art,sound,animation,&video
delivered by any electronic means.

Media
Linear
Non linear
Linear : TV shows and motion pictures
are considered linear presentation
because the viewer has to watch the
information with live streaming like live
shows,live cricket ,Audio launch etc.

Non linear is the process which will be
edited and telecaste to the viewers with
added effects, like daily tv soaps (serials)
game shows movie etc.

Text
In multimedia presentations text can be
combined with other media in a powerful
way to present information and express
moods.
Text can be of various types :
Plain text
Formatted text
Hyper text

Image
A picture being ‘worth a thousand words’
can be made to impart a large amount of
information in a compact way.
The pictures that we see un our everyday
life can broadly classified in two groups
those that despite real world situation
captured by camera and those that have
been drawn or painted and can depict any
fictitious scenario
The first type of picture are called IMAGES
The second type are called graphics.

GRAPHICS
A ‘graphic’ denotes something which is hand drawn.
A traditional graphic would be a drawing or sketch on a
paper by individual, which can range from simple line
drawings like charts and architectural drawings to
complex color portraits which can almost resemble an
image
When represented digitally a graphic can broadly
categorized into two types Raster graphic and vector
graphic.
A raster graphic has similar properties to an image it is
replaced internally as a collection of pixels
Vector graphic :this kind of graphics are generated using
computer software tools, more over instead of being a
collection of pixels these graphics are internally
represented as vector or mathematical relations.

AUDIO
Sound is a form of energy similar to heat
and light. Sound is generated from
vibrating objects and can flow through a
materials medium from one place to
another.
Sound energy flowing outwards from its
point of generation can be compared to
a spreading wave over the surface of
water

VIDEO
Video is a combination of audio & video
.it consists of a set of still images called
frames displayed to the user one after
another at a specific speed known as
frame rate measured in number of
frames per second
The frame rate should range between
20 to 30 for perceiving smooth realistic
motion

ANIMATION
Animations are created from sequence
of still images.
The images are displayed rapidly in
succession so that the eye is fooled into
perceiving continuous motion due to
persistence of vision.
