3. MEANING OF MULTIMEDIA
• Information/ Data, is stored in different forms could be combined
and used in different combinations.
• Multimedia devices are electronic media devices. It used to input an
out put multimedia content. This process has given rise to the term
‘Multi-media’.
• Multimedia means the combination of different media like text,
sound, and/or motion video.
4. Interactive Multimedia:
•Interactive multimedia shift the user’s role from observer to
participant and are considered the next generation of electronic
information systems. interactive multimedia systems under
commercial development by the mid-1990s
•In other words is multimedia which gives the user some
navigational controls. A good example is the Internet.
•Simple interactions that simply start movie clips, audio segments
animations etc are very common.
•Recently complex interactions between media is available.

• Multimedia fall into one of five main categories & use varied technique
for digital formatting
• The different building blocks of Multimedia are Text, Images a
graphics, Audio, Video, and Animation.

• Text and symbols are very important for communication in any mediu
• It is still the most fundamental element and most effective way to
communicate in multimedia.
•Text is used as headlines, subtitles, and slogans. It’s
• purpose is to express specific information or reinforce information in
other media. It involves the use of text types, sizes, colours and
background colour.
8. Images and Graphics
• Graphics are an important part of multimedia because humans a
visually oriented.
• Images including photographs, illustrations, drawings, clip art, icons
any other non-text elements on a website or in social media are
example of graphics.
• The points at which an image is sampled are known as picture elemen
commonly abbreviated as pixels.
• The pixel values of intensity images are called grayscale levels. There a
different kinds of image formats like the Captured Image Format and t
format when images are stored.
9. Audio:
Sound can enhance your website design and social media platforms. It is
a multimedia application that uses dialogue, recorded narration, music
and sound effects.
Music demands a higher-quality and a wider sound-frequency range
than narration and therefore produces larger files.
The WAV and AIFF audio formats, popular on Microsoft Windows and
Macintosh systems respectively

of movement.
•In multimedia, 2D and 3D digital animation is used.
•Animation is a dynamic and media-rich content – a very
powerful form of communication.

12. TYPES OF MULTIMEDIA
Multimedia : divided into Linear and Non-linear Multimedia.
•Linear Multimedia is a type of a multimedia that is designed to be
presented in a sequential manner, the active content progresses
without any navigational control for the viewer
•Linear Multimedia may also be referred to as “Passive
Multimedia” because of the viewer is a passive receiver of the
multimedia content most of the time.
• For example a movie uses a combination of audio, graphics and
animations.
13. • Non-linear Multimedia uses interactivity to control progress as with a
video game or self-paced computer based training.
• The person needs to interact with a computer program, thus making
him in control of the experience. Or
• With the presence of an interface, the person and the computer
interacts with each other.
