Multicast allows for one-to-many or many-to-many transmission of data to a group of destination computers simultaneously. Using PTZOptics NDI-enabled multicast cameras requires a multicast-enabled network with switches and cabling that support multicast, as well as network-attached devices that are multicast-enabled and have mDNS enabled. IGMP snooping allows network switches to listen to IGMP traffic and maintain maps of which links require which multicast streams to filter traffic to only ports that need it. This allows practical applications like broadcasting customized live streams from the same cameras to different computers for multiple languages or audiences.
