Video filters can be applied to any Source or Scene by right clicking on the title and selecting Filters. New Filters can be added to OBS when specific plugins are installed. Similar to Sources, Filters can have their visibility toggled on and off in the Filters management window. By default, OBS organizes Filters into Audio/Video Filters and Effect Filters. You can add a filter by selecting the “+” plus button, which will open the Filter and allow you to adjust the Filter settings. There is a plugin called OBS Filter Hotkeys that will allow you to toggle the visibility on and off for Filters using Hotkeys without having to open the Filters management window.
Once you have become comfortable with OBS, you may want to start customizing the OBS software. OBS allows users to customize many settings including the overall theme and positioning of each major user interface element. You will notice the ability to resize areas of OBS with your mouse by hovering over the edge of a particular area. For example, if you hover your mouse under the main video area you will notice you can click and drag the side to resize the element. You can also click and drag the top bar of an element to drag the entire element into a new space to reorganize the OBS interface. You can also click and drag entire interface elements outside of the main OBS application in order to create a dedicated space in a new window. Some core OBS elements such as Scenes and the Audio Mixer offer alternate layout options. For example, the image below shows the default audio mixer moved to the side and put into a vertical mode.
In this chapter, you will learn how to optimize your OBS production by using the settings available in OBS to fit your specific needs. Most users of OBS are using the software for live production, live streaming and/or recording. The more that you plan to do with OBS, the more important it will become to use the correct system settings. In general, OBS will allow you to customize your project to fit almost any resolution or frame rate. Therefore, OBS is capable of pushing your computer beyond its limits and a good understanding of your hardware and its limitations is required to optimize OBS properly. While you are using OBS, you should keep an eye on your computer's resource management tool. Windows computers can use Task Manager, and Mac OS uses Activity Monitor.
Open Broadcaster Software (OBS) is an open source software designed for live streaming, and video production. The project was originally created by Hugh “Jim” Bailey and released in August of 2012. Fast forward an entire decade, and developers from around the world collaborate and contribute to the project making it possible to have up to date and stable versions of the software for Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. OBS is the result of a large community of developers working together to create a flexible software solution for audio visual projects ranging from live streaming to video distribution and beyond. If you use the software regularly, you should seriously consider supporting the project financially on either Patreon or OpenCollective.
How to host BIG company meetings with live streamingPaul Richards
Current Zoom video conference solutions can scale up to 1,000 participants for all-hands meetings (using the enterprise license). Zoom video conference calls generally fit up to 25 people on one screen and requires scrolling of multiple screens to view additional users. New live video workflows are introduced which merge technologies used for one-way live streaming broadcasts with content delivery networks and live zoom video conference calls used to organize smaller breakout sessions.
Zoom video conference breakout sessions allow large groups of video conference callers to split off into smaller groups. This feature is ideal when large meetings take place online which sometimes follow a company address that is delivered with a live stream. Professors used a wide range of digital tools, including online learning management systems, video conferencing tools, and messaging platforms, to make sure students can access course materials and communicate with professors.
Why you should record your zoom meetings with obsPaul Richards
In this presentation, you will learn how to dramatically increase the quality of your Zoom meeting recordings. In our last blog post and video, you can learn about the various video recording options available in Zoom. Our tests show that cloud recordings are generally less than 1 Mbps and local recordings are less than 2 Mbps. A bitrate can be used to rank the quality of a video recording in most scenarios and Zoom’s recording bitrate is quite low. Usually, a low bit-rate for video recordings can result in pixelation and general low quality.
Using video production software like OBS, Wirecast, or vMix you can gain the ability to choose a higher quality bit-rate for your recordings. Video production software like OBS also allows you to enhance the quality of your videos with audio enhancements and video production features such as transitions and scene organizations. Here is a small list of the benefits of using OBS for video recordings versus Zoom.
Are you tired of seeing your 1080p webcam image show up in SD in Zoom? That’s because by default, Zoom is actually SD right now, but there is a way to enable HD, and most people don’t know about it!
In this blog post, you will learn how to enable HD mode in Zoom and get 720p and even 1080p video in your Zoom Meetings. All of this and more, will be coming up next!
So great news. There is a feature inside of Zoom called “Enabled Group HD Video.” You may have noticed that inside of most Zoom meetings your video and the video of others looks well, small and sometimes pixelated. This is usually because Zoom is doing it’s absolute best to make everyone's connection seamless for online communications in real time. Therefore, depending on the bandwidth of your internet connection, Zoom may reduce video quality in order to optimize your overall experience.
How to set up Countdown Timers in Microsoft TeamsPaul Richards
Microsoft Teams is a great video communication tool that can be enhanced with all kinds of video elements by using OBS. OBS, stands for Open Broadcaster Software, and it is a video production software that supports a virtual webcam output. By using OBS with it’s virtual webcam output feature in Teams, you can overlay graphics and countdown timers in Teams. This is a great way to show meeting countdown timers, lower thirds graphics and much more.
You can control multiple PTZ cameras with vMix using the Pro or 4K versions of the software. In order to take control over PTZ cameras inside of vMix you will need to know your PTZ camera's IP address and be on the same local area network as the cameras. If you do not know your camera's IP address, you will need to follow the instructions in the cameras set up video. Once you know your camera's IP address, you can simply enter it into vMix to gain PTZ camera control.
Select PTZOptics as the camera type, enter the IP address and click connect. You can use the Pan, Tilt and Zoom controls to start moving your camera around the room. As you are controlling the camera, notice the speed options available for manual pan/tilt and preset pan/tilt. These are the controls you can use to tell vMix the speed at which you want the camera to move in a manual setting and during presets.
Control multiple ptz cameras at once with obsPaul Richards
Using OBS you can control PTZOptics cameras in a couple of different ways. The most popular way is to install the free PTZOptics OBS plugin which adds some great robotic camera control features to OBS. Once installed, you can open up the plugin and control up to 8 cameras. The plugin even create specific hotkeys for calling PTZ presets and it adds the ability to control cameras with an XBox joystick. There is another way to control PTZOptics cameras with OBS called a “Dockable” interface using HTML codes available from PTZOptics. The HTML files can be used with the “Docks” feature of OBS to dock a PTZ camera controller directly into the OBS interface. You can learn more about that here.
It’s time for an updated video and tutorial on connecting OBS and Zoom. OBS has recently been updated to support a new virtual camera output feature. This feature makes it even easier to connect OBS with Zoom. This tutorial also includes a new method for working with virtual audio cables to connect OBS and Zoom. The video side is easy, and the audio side is a little more difficult. Let’s dig in.
The picture above is a complete connection diagram showing you how to connect audio and video between OBS and Zoom. Essentially, you are able to bring audio and video directly from Zoom and OBS with any Windows or Mac PC. The main difference between Windows and Mac computers is the type of Audio setup that you use.
Live streaming on Amazon is a huge opportunity for Amazon Sellers, Brands, and influencers. Amazon's live streaming program is designed to monetize live streaming via eCommerce sales on their platform. This is an exciting way for video production companies, AV integration companies, and in-house video teams to upgrade their clients live streaming capabilities in order to create professional video that sells. Let's take a look at the live streaming tiers available from Amazon and how you can start live streaming on Amazon.
Amazon owns the eCommerce market in the United States and abroad in many countries. Ecommerce sales have exploded in 2020, and live streaming on Amazon is a perfect opportunity for sellers, brands and influencers to get ahead of their competition. Live streaming is a value add sellers where sellers can provide Amazon customers real-time information at a critical moment as they make buying decisions. This is where you want to be if your business sells on Amazon.
Video communication tools for educators Paul Richards
Being able to communicate effectively with your students using video communication tools is essential for modern education. Video communications can strengthen the connection between teachers, students, and parents to foster supportive learning environments.. When you use software such as Zoom, Big Blue Button, or Google Meet, you are leveraging video communication tools to extend the boundaries of your teaching. Simple class discussions can happen via online meetings which can transform into interactive activities and learning sessions leveraging two-way communication tools.
There’s a process in psychology called “priming” that’s helpful in meeting scheduling. Priming is a powerful tool for meeting hosts because it helps to influence the way meeting participants will associate their role in association with the proposed meeting. Research shows that priming can influence someone to walk more slowly by having them read words such as “patient,” “polite,” or “respectful.” So, prime your meeting participants to be excited for an upcoming meeting using words such as “impressive” or “tremendous.” Depending on the type of presentation you’re planning, consider priming your meeting attendees with a catchy title or an associated image attached to the meeting invitation.
All businesses are in a constant state of change. In The Grid, author Matt Watkinson, explains why the traditional way of studying business as a static system is ineffective. Traditionally Watkinson says that businesses like to “break things down into small pieces, and then study them in isolation.” While your organization may see strong results from hosting many small meetings with dedicated teams, it’s often difficult for these small groups to see the bigger picture. In reality, all businesses are interconnected systems where one decision affects other areas of the system. Managers need to remain tapped into the collaboration efforts of their team members to look for overarching cause-and-effect scenarios that can result from small team decisions. This is why large “all hands” update meetings are also important for connecting departments under a common vision.
Transformational experiences have been studied for many years, especially in the events industry where consumers regularly pay to attend experiential events. Joseph Pine, the author of The Experience Economy, writes about the process of capturing attention to cultivate a transformative. The highest level of meeting engagement invokes a transformational experience for attendees. While this may seem like an experience reserved for a weekend of inspirational seminars or a retreat, this chapter will encourage you to think about meetings as mini-transformational opportunities.
Using a document camera in the classroomPaul Richards
A document camera allows teachers to capture an area of interest and use the content for pre-recorded videos and live presentations. Document cameras magnify objects and make them easier to see on a student’s mobile phone, a projector, and any computer that’s used to display the image. Document cameras can quickly become a go-to for teachers because they are easy to use with almost any software that supports webcams. Document cameras enable teachers to show students items of interest during a discussion and are even more useful when paired with annotation tools. In short, document cameras are a great tool that bridges the gap between physical items in the classroom, and the digital world of blended learning.
For online learning, the quality of recorded video content is a priority. From writing samples to scientific specimens, maps, and more, document cameras help you bring objects into the online classroom to make topics come alive. Overall, this device is a win-win for both teachers and students. Document cameras are also incredibly versatile so that a teacher of preschool or high school, and beyond can take advantage of their benefits.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

brand your channel and live streams to give yourself the best chance of
building a unique and successful presence on Twitch.
3. WHY SHOULD YOU FOCUS ON BRANDING?
It’s vitally important to make a good impression on Twitch, you rarely get a
second chance at making one.
When a new user comes to your channel or one of your live streams for the
first time, how you’ve branded it can play a huge part in whether they stick
around, subscribe, or move on.
Creating an attractive brand and more memorable experience for your
viewers and subscribers also helps build a stronger connection,
differentiates you from the competition, and can bring people back to your
channel and streams more regularly.
Twitch is such a huge opportunity so why not give yourself the best chance
of success?!
4. PART 1
PLANNING & PREPARATION
Before You Begin Creating The Brand For Your Twitch Channel There Are
Some Things You Need To Understand And Plan Out First:
5. UNDERSTAND YOURSELF
Before you start a Twitch channel (and brand it) you’re going to need to know
what topic you’re going to create content on.
To choose the best possible topic for you, you need to first understand
yourself to know what content you’ll thrive in creating (we know it sounds
cheesy, but it’s important).
Answer the following questions and this should help give you some ideas:
o What do you consistently show an interest in and research often?
o Are you an authority on any subject?
o Have you worked in a specific job role or industry for a long time?
o What streams or YouTube channels/topics do you find yourself often watching?
o What are your major passions in life?
o What do you feel like your purpose is?
If you can answer those questions you’ll have a fuller understanding of the unique
experience and value you can offer and parts of your personality that you can use to
create a unique channel and stand out from the crowd.
All of this information will also give you some topic ideas that you can build your
channel and brand around. Once you have some topics you can check to see if they
are viable.
6. TOPIC VIABILITY
Before you invest a whole bunch of time creating a channel and a brand on Twitch, it’s vital you check that the topic you plan on
creating content on is actually a viable one. Meaning that there’s actually an audience you can reach.
To check this you can look at the following:
FORUMS/MESSAGE
BOARDS/GROUPS
Are groups forming around your
topic, and are people getting
involved in conversations around
it? If the answer is yes then that’s a
good sign!
THE COMPETITION
If there’s a good number of
streamers already covering the topic
it means it’s likely a solid topic (you
just need to find your unique angle).
If you’re a gamer you can see which
games are getting the most
attention on twitch here.
KEYWORD RESEARCH
Is there search demand for the
topic? You can use a free tool
google trends or similar tools to
see if people are searching for
your topic
RELATED YOUTUBE CHANNELS
& BLOGS
If there a YouTube channels
and blogs on your topic it’s
also a good sign that there’s a
good level of interest in it
Once You See That The Topic Is Viable The Next Step Is To Research Your Target Audience.
7. UNDERSTAND YOUR (TARGET)
AUDIENCE
The best Twitch channels target a specific audience and create content and brand elements that are aimed at attracting them,
helping them solve their problems (or entertaining them in a way they want to be entertained).
If you’re just starting out then here’s how you can get a good understanding of your target audience, and work out how you can
provide some unique value to them:
COMPETING TWITCH CHANNELS
Look at the discussions on
competing Twitch channels to see
what questions, comments, etc.
appear in the chat.

discussions are being had to

channel and brand to attract
them

problems, questions and
requests that often come up.
8. BRANDING STRATEGY
Building a brand takes time, effort, and experimentation and can evolve as
time goes by, so don’t expect to nail it from day one.
At the very least thinking strategically from the start can help you avoid
having to make any major changes later on. Which is why having a brand
strategy, even a simple one to start off with, is a good idea.
At this point you should have some good intel on your target audience so
you can map out what content you can create to give them value.
You can also plan out what stream graphics you are going to need to bring
them to your channel and engage them. So the next step is to create a
branding strategy to inform the creation of these graphics.
9. o Brand (Stream) name
o Color palette
o Typography
o Core message (e.g. a short phrase that can describe what you’re all about)
o Your general style (e.g. Playful, Futuristic, Minimalist, etc.)
When you’re creating a brand strategy you need to think about ways you can
differentiate yourself from the competition but also attract your target audience,
to do that you’ll need to at least plan out some of the basics including:
Once you've planned out these things it allows you to create your stream graphics
and ensure they have a consistent brand look and feel across all your platforms and
profiles.
10. RESEARCH THE COMPETITION
As part of your branding strategy you should also look into your main competitors or your favourite streamers (or both) and
take inspiration from how they've designed and branded their channel.
Things to look out for are:
LOGO
DESIGN
PROFILE
PICTURE
MAIN
MESSAGING
USE OF
COLOR
TWITCH
PANELS
OVERLAY DESIGN
AND FEATURES
STREAM
TRANSITIONS
ANYTHING ELSE
THAT STANDS
OUT TO YOU
When you’re just getting started with your channel there is nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other
streamers, just make sure you’re not copying them. Get inspired and create a unique brand for your channel.
11. KEEP UP WITH STREAM DESIGN TRENDS
Another thing you can do to inform your branding strategy is to look at
the latest stream design trends, and use them to inspire the initial (and
continued) development of your brand and stream graphics.
Try and keep up with trends to ensure your brand on Twitch is evolving
in the right direction.
12. PART 2
MAKE AN ATTRACTIVE
CHANNEL PAGE
Your channel is the home of your content on Twitch so you’re going to want to
make it as welcoming and attractive as possible to visitors.
A clean and professional looking channel page can make a huge difference in
encouraging people who visit your channel to smash that subscribe button.
So how do you create a great looking branded channel? Here are the most
important areas to focus on:
13. YOUR LOGO
The first thing to do is to create a memorable and eye-catching logo for your channel.
When it comes to logos, the vast majority of Twitch streamers go with one of the following two options:
LETTERMARK: This a logo where the main feature is the
initial(s) of your stream name. Check out Method,
Summit1g, and Nadeshot for inspiration.
PICTORIAL: This a logo with a graphic element that
represents the feeling you’re trying to portray with your
channel. Good examples are Riot Games, Lirik, and Ninja.
Whatever route you go down, make sure your logo captures the feeling you’re trying to convey with your brand, and also that it looks good across all the
different places it’s going to appear such as on your channel banner, scenes, social media profiles, and several others.
A good number of streamers also use their logo as their profile picture, so if that’s what you want to do as well, be sure that it looks good there too.
You can make your own using one of the best logo makers available, or hire a freelancer to design one for you from a site like Fiverr.
14. PROFILE PICTURE
Many streamers go with their face as their profile picture with the
idea that this helps make more of a personal connection with visitors
to their channel.
As we already mentioned you can also go with your logo here. This
may give you a more “professional” look for your channel, and help
with brand recognition.
There’s isn’t one option to fit all here, so just go with what you think
works best for your channel and brand.
15. CHANNEL BANNER
Your Twitch channel banner sits at the op of your channel page. So
when someone visits your channel page it’s likely going to be one of
the first things they notice.
This is especially the case on mobile devices, where visitors can see
all of your banner. On desktop devices your channel banner isn’t quite
as prominent due to the fact that the video reel now sits over it.
Regardless it’s still a good opportunity to build familiarity with your
brand no matter what the device so make sure to create something
that looks good cross-device.
16. TWITCH PANELS
Twitch panels are not only a good branding opportunity on your
channel page but also are essential for providing visitors with crucial
information about your brand and your channel.
Here are the essential Twitch panels to use:
About Me
Social Profiles
Channel Rules
Schedule
Subscription Benefits
Merch Store
Donations
Sponsors
17. CHANNEL WELCOME VIDEO
Not all streamers utilize this branding opportunity, but it can be a
powerful way to introduce new visitors to your Twitch channel to you
and your brand.
In your channel welcome video you can let visitors get to know what
kind of content you produce, and hopefully get them interested in
watching more of your content and subscribing to your channel!
Here’s a good example of a welcome video on this channel.
18. DESIGN RESOURCES FOR CHANNEL PAGE GRAPHICS
When it comes to getting all the different graphical elements for your
channel page you have a few options:
o Make them using online design tools such as Twitch panel
makers, Banner makers, etc.
o Design your channel elements yourself if you have the design
skills
o Get a designer via a site like Fiverr to make them for you
o Buy premade designs from sites like VBI or OWN3D
19. PART 3
LIVE STREAM DESIGN AND
EXPERIENCE
You should now have your channel branding sorted, so now you can look at
how to brand and add graphics to your live streams.
No matter what OBS you are using there are several live stream elements that
can have a big impact in creating an awesome branded experience for your
viewers and subscribers:
20. If you can develop a consistent and recognizable format for your live streams this can
go a long way in creating a loyal audience.
People love to watch TV shows because they have a very consistent formula. They get
new entertainment, surprises, and sometimes new lessons from each episode but
they keep coming back because they like the consistent format (and quality) of the
show.
This is the same for your Twitch channel and live streams. If you can build a format
that your audience loves and keep it consistent this can be a hugely important factor
in building a highly engaged fanbase for your channel and brand.
YOUR
CONTENT
The most important element is of course the content you produce. This is also a
reflection of your brand so whatever you put out there on Twitch is going to
define your brand. Make sure it’s as good as you can make it!
If you can maintain a high level of content quality then people will start to
associate that with your channel and your brand. This is one of the key aspects
of building a strong brand on Twitch.
YOUR FORMAT
21. Twitch overlays are graphics that sit on top of your stream footage e.g. webcam
frames, stream information, chat boxes, etc.
There’s a huge number of different styles and overlay features to choose from. The
important things to think about here are your branding, is it consistent with your
channel (e.g. color palette, style, etc.), and most importantly your audience
experience. Make sure your overlays enhance the viewing experience and put a focus
on the content.
You can make your overlays as simple or as complex as you see fit but always make
sure you have your audience experience in mind. Delivering a great stream experience
will help build a loyal audience for your brand.
Create your own overlays with a Twitch overlay maker or buy premade designs
through sites like OWN3D.
YOUR ON-CAMERA STYLE
How you present yourself on camera also has a big effect on how people will
perceive you and your brand. This mainly includes the following:
o The way you communicate e.g. do you speak fast, slow, calmly, excitedly, etc.
o Your personality – does it come across well on camera?
OVERLAYS
22. If you want to create a unique community feel for your channel and brand you should
invest in creating custom stream alerts for when viewers follow, subscribe, or donate
to your channel.
It helps your channel stand but is also a great way of engaging viewers and making
them feel part of your community.
STREAM SCREENS
Stream screens are mainly used to make sure that viewers know what is
happening with your channel or stream when you’re not live on camera.
There a few different ones you can utilize for your stream:
o Offline screens
o RB screens
o Starting soon screens
Again, make sure these are kept on brand. You can also use them to promote
your social profiles so your audience can follow you and engage you on those
platforms too.
ALERTS
23. Once you’ve established a decent audience size on Twitch there’s a good chance you
will have opportunities to work with sponsors and partners.
If you go down this route you should only work with partners that fit with your brand
and match the method and values you’re pushing for. A partner mismatch can have a
negative impact on your brand!
ENGAGE YOUR AUDIENCE
To build your brand connection with your audience you should make sure you’re
engaging those viewers that are active in the chat of your live streams. Answer
their questions, respond to their comments and this will help solidify the
relationship and make them feel part of the community.
It’s also a great place to get to know your audience better. You can find out what
they think of your content, they can even suggest topics that they’d love to see
you cover on your channel.
CHOOSE YOUR PARTNERS WISELY
24. BUILD A REAL COMMUNITY
Your channel and brand is what it is only because of your audience and the community you build with them.
So if you can create awesome content and a solid branded experience then your audience will not only become brand advocates but they will
also support your channel. Here’s some ways you can enhance your channel’s community:
BE GENUINE: People can tell when someone is being fake. So just be yourself and also give your audience some insights into who you are as
people bond over things they have in common.
Doing this helps you build a community of like minded people and can deepen the connection with your channel (and your brand).
CREATE UNIQUE EMOTES AND SUB BADGES: Using unique and custom Twitch emotes can help people feel part of a unique community as they
can access emotes that are only available through your channel.
If you can make them relevant to your audience too (e.g. ones that represent inside jokes or common sayings in the community) then this can
help build the sense of community and also fun around your brand.
To get custom emotes, you can use emote makers or hire a designer to create some unique ones for your channel.
Subscriber badges are custom graphics your subscribers get for being loyal and long term followers of your channel. Creating custom badges
is a great way of showing appreciation to your followers, and can give them ‘status’ in your community. It’s another great way to build a
community feel for your brand.
26. The last part of the whole process to building a successful Twitch
channel and brand is to keep on top of your analytics to make sure
you have a clear understanding of what is and isn’t working. When
you have those insights you can create more of what your audience
loves and responds to.
You can get some great insights from your Twitch channel analytics
into what content performs best on your channel in engaging your
audience. Also be sure to keep track of your performance when you
introduce new or updated graphic and visual elements into your
stream to see what impact they’re having.
Always look at what’s working and invest in more of that for your
brand and your audience. That way everyone wins!
