This document discusses different types and theories of motivation. It outlines internal motivation, which comes from within an individual and their own values and goals, and external motivation, which comes from external sources. Some examples of motivation discussed are positive motivation using promotion for achieving targets, and negative motivation using demotion for not achieving targets. Theories covered include McGregor's Theory X and Y, and Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. Incentives that can be used to motivate performance are also mentioned, including both monetary and non-monetary incentives.
