Adelie Penguin Bird Research Paper
Today, I chose to write about the Adelie Penguin, and my knowledge of this bird consists of penguins
that (appear to) wear tuxedos, plus comparable to all penguins, Adele Penguins captivate us with
intense cuteness. One physical behavior they posses (which I desire) is the belly flop. As they run
along the snow and ice on their little legs and feet, they will undoubtedly fall, and this is where the
belly flop comes into play. They fall with such dignity and ease, and once on their bellies they slide
for a short distance in the ice, as if to say I meant to do that. I recently fell on my knee which caused a
great deal of damage and pain. How wonderful if I could have fallen on my stomach and gracefully
slid across the room, at which point I

A man of many talents, Michael Jordan is. Part of a very elite group of athletes to play two
professional sports in their lifetime. Michael Jordan played for fifteen years in the NBA and a year in
minor league baseball. An African American standing six foot six inches above the ground, some may
say sports came easy for Michael, but how wrong they are. It was not always an easy road for Michael
Jordan, but a road he would take many times again. This road tested his determination, strength, guts,
and it always tested his love for the game. Michael Jordan once said, I ve failed over and over and

The assassination of India s father. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, while
walking to prayer located in the compound of Birla house (Now Gandhi Smriti). His assassin was
Nathuram Vinayak Godse, who was a right wing advocated of Hindus nationalism. Mahatma Gandhi s

British had rule India and imposed harsh taxes on necessary items such as salt. The expensive salt

Ancient Chinese Diet
What They Ate
In Ancient China, the people ate healthy. The Chinese ate a lot of vegetables but the variety was small.
The vegetable range consisted of Cucumbers and Soybeans, and apparently, it s been dated that they
ve been eating that since 1000 BC. The Soybean was an important grain for the Chinese. At one point
in Chinese Food History, Wine was more popular than tea, the first wine that was introduced to them
was Yellow Rice Wine, also known as Huangjiu. Huangjiu is a rice wine made from water and cereal
grains like rice, millet, sorghum and wheat. This type of alcohol contained less than 20% of actual
alcohol, and it was aged for as long as 20 years. (Wikipedia, n.d.) Chinese people also ate all kinds of
meats from different animals, however, not all could afford it so they replaced it with tofu as a cheaper
source of protein. Tofu is bean curd, it is rich in nutrients like calcium, iron, high protein and has little
fat. It replaced meat for the poor Chinese since they didn t eat meat regularly, only on special
occasions. They made a law that would give every Chinese person a free cup of tofu every week, I did
not find any evidence of this law but tofu was still important to the Chinese and their healthy diet Tea

Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers
The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of illegal
boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403 people in
closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these high detention
rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that there were 4,313
reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these immigration detention
facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and the 20th of June 2013 6 of
these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These statistics are incredibly
alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not only mental illness but also
the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of this report is to analyse and
scrutinize the reason why mental health issues for asylum seekers are becoming an issue in Australia,
and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing issue in Australia.
An asylum seeker is a person who has fled their own country and applied for protection as a refugee.
As an asylum seeker their experience is extremely different to that of a Migrant. A Migrant chooses to
leave their home country, and can choose where to go and when they might return to their home
country, whereas, an asylum seeker or refugee are forced to flee their country for their own safety,

How Did Elvis Presley Influence Society
Elvis Aaron Presley, otherwise known as The King was born on January 8th, 1935. He came from
simple beginnings; being born into a lower class family in Tupelo, Mississippi. In 1948, at the age of
13 Elvis Presley and his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Soon he launched his incredibly
successful music career with Sun Records at the age of 19 in 1954. His music was influenced by both
African American and White artists causing his unique blend of country, pop, rhythm and blues, and
gospel music. Presley was heavily influenced by artists such as Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and Buddy
Holly. Though Presley was widely known for his provocative dances moves and his popularization of
Rock n Roll Presley impacted American culture in a much larger aspect. His influence on Americans
and American culture aided desegregation and civil rights during his period of influence and helped
create youth culture . Presley facilitated desegregation through his music genre and selection. He did
this by creating music for both Black and White listeners integrating the two music genres. For
instance, Elvis Presley s first single released in July of 1954 began his career of integrating Black and
White music. This record contained a cover of That s All Right an R B song which was originally
written and recorded by the African American artist Arthur Crudup on side A. While side B was a
recording of a cover of the bluegrass song Blue Moon of Kentucky by the white artist Bill Monroe.
This representation showed the American people that both Black and White culture could live side by
side beautifully. This record also displayed the beginning Presley s attitude and complete disregard for
segregation. This portrayal of mixing these cultures came at an especially tense time in American
history. Two months before Presley released these songs the case of Brown Vs. Board of Education
had come to a ruling. The Brown Vs. Board of Education case was a case filed against the Topeka,
Kansas school board because a Black child was denied access to a White school. The plaintiff argued
that the segregated schools were separate but not equal and violated the equal protection clause in the
14th amendment. In May of 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court

Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell
One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by
Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples)
during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by
Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church
was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as
a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the
Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why
I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s
represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so
people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses
Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall.
The next piece that I have chosen is called Dancer s Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess
Kali created in India. It was made in the late 15th century in India, Kerala during the time period of
ancient India. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson

Golfer s Elbow Research Paper
Golfers Elbow, aka medial epicondylitis, is a pain or tenderness on the front side of your elbow. I
choose this injury because it is somewhat related with baseball since it can be caused by improper
swings or throws. There isn t much to know about Golfer s Elbow but here is a good overview of the
injury. Golfers Elbow usually only pertains to athletes or those who exercise poorly and has several
different causes. The main causes are from swinging a golf club or tennis racket, lifting weights, or
throwing anything from a baseball to a javelin. The pain usually comes from damage to the muscles
and tendons in your arm that are caused by overuse and exhaustion. The activities listed above are far
less likely to cause damage if you stretch and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can even cause stiffness in your elbow causing every move to hurt as well as making your hands and
grip strength weaker. Luckily, the pain of Golfer s Elbow will subside over the course of a few days
and you can get back to your everyday activities. Many home remedies for Golfer s Elbow include
having lots of rest, taking any pain medication like advil, and icing down the injured area throughout
the day. If pain persists even after four or so days it may be time to go see the doctor. Also, if your
elbow won t bend and you think there s something more going on, like a broken bone, consult your
doctor as soon as you possibly can. People of age forty or older or those who are obese or perform the
same action over and over for more than two hours a day are more prone to getting Golfer s Elbow. If
they don t get it treated properly it can lead to excruciating pain in the elbow region along with a
limited range of motion. Golfer s Elbow can last for months, or even years, even with proper treatment
so it s best to try and prevent it at all costs and to stop whatever you re doing with the first sign of
elbow

The Importance of Babel 17: The Role of Communication Author Samuel R. Delaney, in his novel

method of thinking displays the potential that exists for being able to manipulate how others think. An

Descriptive Analysis of Statistical Data
Final Project: Statistics II Descriptive analysis of statistical data INTRODUCTION There have always
been crimes, from a treachery to an assassination. Happens in every country you can think of, and
every government has to deal with it. It is really stressful to try to understand the nature of the crimes:
why are they done and where could they happen next. Out of this preoccupation is that we found
studies gathering data from communities; we focused on one specific crime: murders. In several
communities, it is thought that the murder rate is somehow related to several factors. For instance, it is
common to hear that the murder rate depends on poverty and unemployment. Starting from this
hypothesis, the database found to make this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now we are using the equation given at the partial F test. It is common that some times one of the
independent variables (in this case, percentage of families with income below $5000 and percentage
people unemployed) may be linearly related with another independent variable. In other words, there
may be a pair of explanatory (independent) variables that measure the same thing or that they depend
on each other, so it is recommended to drop one of them because having both causes instability in the
model. This means that the equation wouldn t be as precise as it should. This issue is called
multicollinearity. To prove if this is the case in our study, we calculated some numbers called
correlation coefficients and variance inflation factors. Basically, the rule is that if one of the
correlation coefficient between a pair of explanatory variables is higher than 0.9 there is evidence of
multicollinearity. Another criteria is that if the variance inflation factor of each explanatory variable is
higher than 10, there is a case of multicollinearity, as well. In our study, multicollinearity was not an
issue. Another issue when having more than 1 independent variable as predictors is that the presence
of one of them may affect the prediction capacity of the other. For being sure that this wasn t
happening, we proceeded to perform a stepwise procedure. In this procedure one variable is entered to
the equation at a time, and

Kubrick And Lynch On The Patriarchy
Kubrick and Lynch on the Patriarchy
Stanley Kubrick s great breadth of work spans over forty eight years, and due to both his longevity
and skill, he has influenced filmmakers from several generations. Kubrick has been named as a
creative influence for a myriad of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Terry
Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan [2,3]. Kubrick presents sensitive events in an
unbiased manner, withholding an opinion on the topic. By not offering a resolution or a stance, he
forces viewers to see the evils of man objectively. There is usually no punishment for the morally
corrupt acts, because that offers a more accurate portrayal of reality. Characters often do not fully
develop in Kubrick films, again as if to replicate reality. These unsettling techniques have left a clear
impression on the filmmaker David Lynch. His films often share a sense of amorality that goes
unpunished or unaddressed. Their respective world views are equally cynical, criticizing
traditionalism in society.
Arguably one of the most consistent links between Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch is their portrayal
of women in film. Stanley Kubrick does not choose to emphasize the struggles of being a woman in a
patriarchal society. Instead, he shows women through the patriarchal gaze. In A Clockwork Orange,
women are literally objectified, as plastic statues of naked women are used as coffee tables in the
Korova Milk Bar. This introduces the viewers to the protagonist,

The Segregation Of Disabled Canadian Citizens
The social, political and economic conditions during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in
Canada fostered the segregation of disabled Canadian citizens. Prior to the 1980 s, this segregated
population was viewed as incapable individuals who were dependent on others. As a result, disabled
Canadians were denied opportunities to fully exercise their civil rights (Galer, 2015). At the dawn of
the Disability Rights Movement in 1980, Canadian legislators were willing and prepared to ignore the
rights of Canadians with disabilities. However, throughout the decade, Canadian citizens with
disabilities and their supporters fought back and proved to the world that the voices of the
disenfranchised could make a difference (Peters, 2004). Five briefs submitted to the Special Joint
Committee of the House of Commons and the Senate in 1980 and 1981 regarding disability rights,
reflected and supported the efforts of the Disability Rights Movement and significantly contributed to
its evolution. The Special Joint Committee of the House of Commons and the Senate was
implemented in 1980 in the wake of the Quebec referendum on independence. The goal of the
committee was to hear submissions from the public on amendments to the Constitution. In a three
month consultation period, 914 individuals and groups submitted briefs before the committee
(Clément, 2015). Hoping to have a direct impact on the Canadian constitution and the Charter of

What Obstacles Did Jackie Robinson Face

Robinson made his debut in the major league at Ebbets Field. There was a crowd of 26,623 spectators,

He had become the first African American to play in the Major League Baseball in the modern era.
The last time that the color line was openly broken in Major League Baseball was in 1880. This was a

Food Waste In Australia
The issue of food waste within Australia is a large issue. The issue this investigation focuses on is the
amount of food we waste as a nation and then formulating a conclusion to reduce the amount or
prevent the damages it is now causing.
The aim of the investigation is to determine why so much food is being wasted within Australia and
how bad is it affecting the environment we live in. This is a concern to the environment and to us as
civilians who are occupying the land. Money is being wasted on food that we as a nation are not

Food waste causes a large amount of environmental issues. These are caused by the loss of natural
resources which are in the production of food.
Hospitality food waste has a major economic impact due to the cost of disposal and the profit loss that
s caused by throwing away the consumable and sellable food. Food that is wasted generally goes to

Most of the waste that s disposed is organic waste which creates methane.
Approximately 23 percent of Australia s greenhouse gas emissions were made by the national food

Deriving Meaning from William Carlos Williams , The Young Housewife
Everything depends on perspective. The uniqueness we bring to our reading is essential to the
absorption of poems with Imagist elements. An example of this is the poem, The Young Housewife ,
by William Carlos Williams.
Perhaps it was a streak of laziness on my part, but I had very little imagination to offer this poem.
Having had no experience as such, I didn t identify with the young housewife, the fish man, the ice
man, or even the dramatically fallen leaf. What I initially saw was a jumble of thoughts arranged
neatly into three very brief verses.
The biographical information about the author provided in the Third Edition of the Heath ... Show

The heart of my discoveries of understanding came with the question of who the narrator of the poem
is. I immediately pictured the narrator to be a male, despite the fact that there is no text stating so
unfair, but my right, seeing as it is my imagination that fuels the meaning here. From there, the little
details led me to my individual conclusion that this is a poem of oppression and obsession, cliché
though they may be.
My conclusions were drawn from the very fact that although the speaker in the poem initially seems to
be a random passer by, it is obvious that he knows intimate details about the young housewife. The
lines of the poem tell us that he knows that she is married and of the negligee that she wears (lines 1
2). It is also curious that he should refer to the specific times of her regular routines (line 1). In my
mind, few people would know such things about people and feel them worthy to comment on.
Someone who would certainly know and care about these things is the only other character directly
mentioned in the poem, her husband. Once I had realized that it could be his voice speaking, the
meaning in my mind became a lot clearer.
Here is the husband of a young bride. He is described as sitting solitary in a car with noiseless, and
perhaps unmoving, wheels, watching her every move (lines 4 10). Enter obsession. The description he
affords his wife is one of childishness. He speaks of

The End Of The Civil War
After the Civil War, the fact that slavery was abolished might seem to be the end of the story;
however, the problems derived from the abolishment of slavery had yet to be addressed. During the
Reconstruction Era, these problems were reflected on the political, social, and economic aspects.
Which played several major roles in shaping America from the late nineteenth into the twentieth
centuries. These three aspects, political, social, and economical, affected one another so much that they
were inseparable. The beginning leniency of Andrew Johnson all the way to the Confederates and later
the political conflict between Johnson and the Radical Republicans, and lastly, the political struggle
between Republicans and Democrats. It all resulted in the ever changing policies toward the freed
people. These different policies had strong effects on the society, especially the freed people. Although
some of the policies, such as the abolition of slavery and several Constitutional Amendments were
beneficial to the rights of freed people, the sudden increase of freed people brought about the
separation of black and white and many other social issues. Thus the real equality among people still
had yet to be achieved. The economy also affected the society and the politics. The depression of the
economy after the Civil War made people focus on their own situations, instead of worrying about the
freed people. For example the people were distressed about getting money and how to provide for

Ninhydrin Research Paper
Two of the most commonly used chemical enhancements for plain dry paper is Ninhydrin and 1,8
Diazafluoren 9 one (DFO) both of which can be used individually and together. When they are being
used together, DFO has to be carried out first. Both chemicals react with the amino acids in the latent
fingerprint.
To carry out DFO enhancement a lab oven must be set at 100°C with no humidity. The DFO is mixed
with methanol and acetic acid. The methanol is used as it allows DFO to form hemiketals which give a
higher reactivity with the amino acids in the print. Using longer chain alcohols doesn t give as high a
yield of fluoresces and development of the print. Acetic acid can be used to reduce the pH of the
solution making it acidic. If the solution ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is add to ensure the ninhydrin is soluble. Acetic acid and ethyl acetate are mixed with it to
produce a straw coloured solution. Ethyl acetate prevents esterification and moves equilibrium
towards acetic acid and ethanol, if esterification occurs the by product water will damage the ridges of
the print. Acetic acid is a catalyst which allows the formation of Ruhemann s purple. It has to be kept
at low concentrations as it could cause ink on the paper to run and therefore damage evidence.
To carry out Ninhydrin enhancement a humidity controlled oven must be set at 65% humidity and
80°c. The paper will either just be undergoing this process or just dried from DFO placed in the
ninhydrin solution for 5 seconds on either side and placed on a tray into the oven for 5 7 minutes. The
finger prints will develop producing a distinct purple colour known as Ruhemann s purple. When the
reaction is less intense a red/pink colour is produced. The finger prints are removed and pictures taken
of the paper containing the print with a scale and labelled. The prints can continue to develop for a
couple of weeks after initially being processed. Ninhydrin prints on their own can be further enhanced
using metal salts such as zinc chloride and cadmium salts. These fluoresces increasing the visibility
and detail of the print.

Importance Of Graphic Design
The career that I am researching is graphic design. A graphic designer helps to make an organization
recognizable by using a variety of mediums to communicate a particular idea or identity to be used in
advertising and promotions. Some examples of things that graphic designers create/do are; colours,
fonts, animations, photography, print designs, logos, images, pictures, and billboards. They use a
variety of design elements to help an advertisement, brochure, magazine, or corporate report be
artistically appealing and stand out. They also collaborate closely with other graphic designers,
writers, programmers, artists, or other creative people in order for their projects to be as appealing as
possible. Graphic design is important to society because it gives organizations and companies a face.
It allows the consumer to have feelings about a product just by looking at it. The importance of
graphic design is only increasing because with the growing reach of technology, it is extremely
important for a company to be noticed. A typical day working as a graphic designer involves meetings,
creating your project, revising your project, and presentations. Graphic design is not a physically
strenuous job and is a job that people of all body types can do.
Many personal traits are required for a person to be a successful graphic designer. Some of these traits
are; artistic skills, creativity, strong verbal, visual, and written communication skills, ability to work

Turning Point Of The Mexican Revolution
The Land belongs to the people who work it. An inspirational quote said by Emiliano Zapata during
the Mexican Revolution. One of the leading figures during the event. The Mexican Revolution was
one of many turning points in Latin History, but a greater turning point for the people of Mexico. The
revolution took place after defeating the French from the invasion of Mexico, which happened during
1862 1867. On November 20, 1910, was the start of the Mexican revolution and where the president,
Porfirio Diaz triggered the beginning stages of it. Due to a violation of the Mexican Constitution
among other situations that the citizens didn t agree.
The Mexican Revolution involved many bloody conflicts, which covered two decades, and the loss of
900,000 lives. The Revolution began on November 20, 1910, to overthrow the current ruler and
dictator Porfirio DĂaz Mori. DĂaz was one determined president and wanted to develop Mexico into an
industrial and modernized country. While he worked on implementing a capitalist society building

DĂaz would bully and terrify citizens into supporting him. While many civil liberals appeared under
his rule, such as, Freedom of press he began to attempt to strengthen his ties with the United States

Pop Youth Subculture Research Paper
Adolescence is a time of transition and growing independence. However the experiences that young
adults seek today are quite different to those in previous decades.Mods, punks, rockers, flappers,
hippies: there was a time when young people made their loyalties clear by the way they dressed. A
popular film of the 1970s called Grease based on the early Australian subculture reflects this notion.
These subcultures came about at the end of World War II when the west was marked by a rise in
infrastructural development, prosperity and wealth of the working class. The popular Rocker

Comparison Of Johann Wolfgang Von Goe German Classical And...
There is an ongoing debate in literary circles whether Johann Wolfgang von Goethe s works should be
considered German Classical or European Romanticism. Complicating matters are statements by
Goethe such as his infamous statement The Classical I call healthy and the Romantic sick . . . Most of
the new poetry is not Romantic because it is new, but it is because it is weak, sickly, and ill, and the
old is not Classical because it is old, but because it is strong, fresh, cheerful, and healthy.
(Conversations with Eckerman, April 2, 1829). Works such as Faust by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
(Part I 1808, Part II 1832) complicate classifications even further as this masterpiece is in two separate
sections, composed years apart, with some categorizing the Part I and Part II differently. However,
Faust, Part I, does have many elements, such as spiritual growth and topics and characters of the
supernatural, that match the European Romanticism philosophies.
Faust had gained a great wealth of knowledge studying various subjects that require rational and
scientific thought processes and yet, he is no longer satisfied with the world in which he lives. Upon
realizing something is missing that he cannot gain through his traditional academic studies, he strives
to gain knowledge of the spiritual world and the mysteries they hold. The era of Romanticism entails a
core belief that spiritual growth is essential and would allow people to evolve and increase their
human potential. Moreover,

different portrayals of leadership. One of the leaders, Mark Antony, is a great friend and advisor to
Julius Caesar. Antony must deal with the aftermath of Caesar s murder for his own sake and for his
country s sake. Mark Antony s strong rhetoric and persuasive speech allow him to be an effective

Antony s sly words convince Brutus that him speaking at Caesar s funeral will benefit everyone.
Antony s language persuades the person who murdered his greatest ally, to have complete faith in him.
This characteristic of leadership demonstrates Antony s ability to meet his personal goals using his
dynamic speech skills. Brutus speaks before Caesar s funeral and mentions that Caesar was ambitious.
After Brutus speech, Antony makes an even better speech that refutes all of Brutus points. Antony
states that Caesar could not be ambitious because Caesar brought home wealth to Rome, cried for the
citizens, and that Caesar refused the crown three times. Antony cries after the speech, and tells that
citizens that judgement, thou art fled to brutish beasts (Shakespeare 83). When Antony mentions this
to the crowd, he causes the whole crowd to rethink their decision to follow Brutus. Antony uses his
words to convey to the crowd that Brutus could not possibly be correct. Antony, crying after his
speech, makes the Romans pity him and believe strongly in his words. He furthers his cause by
promoting to the crowd that they are a part of Caesar s will. Antony states several times that he does

Los Angeles is built on the vast and flat landscape; it was their opportunity to grow fast as a
metropolitan. With this environment, the constant influx of population was enough to generate a
significant community even outside of downtown. The urban sprawl started on its endless horizontal
ground. However, soon they confronted the limit of the carrying capacity. L.A couldn t handle its
urban sprawl; it needed a solution to keep growing. Los Angeles couldn t deal with the increasing
housing demand and lacking of public space. Compared to other metropolitan, such as New York, Los
Angeles showed the dramatic comparison in population density. The urbanized area of Los Angeles
was the densest in the country in 1990, more so than even New York City. The 2000 figure for the Los

Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis
Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable
for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the
viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is
particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to
light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense
paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large
scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed
and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially
Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain
highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the
interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time
to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own
associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you
think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like
female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some
who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a
reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in
a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the
eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female
genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This
second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty
on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium,

Customers
The customer s interest within Tesco would be that they would want to buy a range of products that
are of a high quality or receive or a good service from Tesco. If the customers do not receive the
products/services they have paid for they would be unhappy with Tesco, which could mean that they
may move to a competitor, causing Tesco to be losing customers and could also mean that, Tesco
would get a negative reputation from this and can further reduce the amount of customers that go
there. This shows that customers have a big influence for Tesco, as Tesco would need them as a source

be making a profit and wouldn t be making what matters better, together (which is their purpose).

APPLE S STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL TAX MINIMIZATION
Intercompany transactions could occur across national borders, it would lead MNC companies to get
more exposure to the differences of the tax regulations between countries. This might lead MNC
companies to set up their objective to minimize their taxes through the use of discretionary transfer

Apple Inc. is one of the companies implementing tax minimization strategies to lower taxes. Apple

Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison
Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison
When a business decides to venture internationally into different countries with its products, services,
and operations, it is very important that the company gains an understanding of how the culture of the
different societies affects the values found in those societies. Geert Hofstede conducted one of the
most famous and most used studies on how culture relates to values. Hofstede study enabled him to
compare dimensions of culture across 40 countries. He originally isolated four dimensions of what he
claimed summarized different cultures power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism versus
collectivism, and masculinity versus femininity (Hill, 2013, p.110). To cover aspects of values not
discussed in the original paradigm Hofstede has since added two more dimensions Confucianism or
long term orientation and indulgence versus self restraint (Hofstede, n.d.). Because of the way
Hofstede s cultural dimensions are given an index score from 0 100, it is easy for a company to get a
general comparison between the cultures they are expanding into and the culture they are already in.
United States versus France
For example, if a company based in the United States were going to expand into France, the company
could use Hofstede s 6 cultural dimensions to get a general look at the differences between the two.
Then out of those differences, the company could see what approaches may or may not work, or what
they may need to change,

The Miller s The Crucible Self Reputation
Reputations Matter More Than You Think Self reputation is an important part of keeping pride and
moralities in a person s life, but self absorption can eventually develop from an outstanding care for
reputation. Self absorption is a negative trait found in all people sometimes and it can end up causing
things to go very wrong for yourself and others. Once someone is purely focused on keeping their
reputation and worrying too much of what others think of them, they are overwhelmed by the thought
of hiding all mistakes and always making themselves feel superior to others. Throughout Arthur Miller
s The Crucible self reputation is a major motivation felt by Abigail Williams and Reverend Parris,
which results in Abby accusing innocent people of witchcraft and Parris not helping his people in a
time of need; leaving the town in complete disorder and chaos. Abigail Williams is always making
sure the people of Salem believe her act of innocence and lying to keep her name white in the town.
She wants everyone to think she always tells the truth and is pure, so she will never get in trouble for
the dreadful acts she does. She secretly deceits others to keep them on her side and will make up any
story to get the blame off of her and on someone else. When Parris confronts Abigail about what the

This heavy burden made the business impossible to sustain in the long run. High cost of internal
supplies GM s decline can also be concluded by the failure of cost cut. As sales decline, variable costs,
manufacturing costs and material purchases should also be reduced. However, since GM has
significant fixed costs, for instance the pensions and healthcare costs, it has been difficult to do costs
cut in a successful way. As a result, the total costs of GM remain much higher than the one of its
competitors. Wrong evaluation of customer needs Since 1980, GM has failed to respond to customer
preference and needs. This resulted in wrong focus on vehicle types in the U.S. market as customers
preferred smaller, cheaper and more efficient cars rather than the bigger vehicle that GM had to offer.
However, GM s profit mainly relies on the sale of SUVs and trucks, which is no more popular and this
led to the decline of sales and revenues. In addition, GM s cars are less fuel efficient compared to its
competitors such as Toyota and Honda. This resulted in a decrease of GM sales in Asian and American
markets. Furthermore, there is little differentiation among the vehicles produced, so the various
customer needs cannot be satisfied and it is more likely for customers to switch to other brands that
have better design. 4 External Factors Powerful competitors Toyota, one of GM s most powerful
competitor, has

  • 2. Adelie Penguin Bird Research Paper Today, I chose to write about the Adelie Penguin, and my knowledge of this bird consists of penguins that (appear to) wear tuxedos, plus comparable to all penguins, Adele Penguins captivate us with intense cuteness. One physical behavior they posses (which I desire) is the belly flop. As they run along the snow and ice on their little legs and feet, they will undoubtedly fall, and this is where the belly flop comes into play. They fall with such dignity and ease, and once on their bellies they slide for a short distance in the ice, as if to say I meant to do that. I recently fell on my knee which caused a great deal of damage and pain. How wonderful if I could have fallen on my stomach and gracefully slid across the room, at which point I ... The vegetable range consisted of Cucumbers and Soybeans, and apparently, it s been dated that they ve been eating that since 1000 BC. The Soybean was an important grain for the Chinese. At one point in Chinese Food History, Wine was more popular than tea, the first wine that was introduced to them was Yellow Rice Wine, also known as Huangjiu. Huangjiu is a rice wine made from water and cereal grains like rice, millet, sorghum and wheat. This type of alcohol contained less than 20% of actual alcohol, and it was aged for as long as 20 years. (Wikipedia, n.d.) Chinese people also ate all kinds of meats from different animals, however, not all could afford it so they replaced it with tofu as a cheaper source of protein. Tofu is bean curd, it is rich in nutrients like calcium, iron, high protein and has little fat. It replaced meat for the poor Chinese since they didn t eat meat regularly, only on special occasions. • 8. Mental Health Issues For Asylum Seekers The issue of asylum seekers recently was reignited, with the dramatic increase in the number of illegal boats arriving in Australia. From the 30th of September 2013, there were a reported 6,403 people in closed detention, this number including 1,078 children. It is not surprising from these high detention rates and poor living standards that between January 2011 and February 2013 that there were 4,313 reported incidents of actual, threatened or attempted serious self harm in these immigration detention facilities. From 12 deaths that occurred between the 1st of July 2010 and the 20th of June 2013 6 of these have been found by coroners to be suicides (Triggs, 2013). These statistics are incredibly alarming, especially when not much action is being taken to prevent not only mental illness but also the consequences of prolonged mental illness suicide. The purpose of this report is to analyse and scrutinize the reason why mental health issues for asylum seekers are becoming an issue in Australia, and find out what exactly is being done to combat this ever growing issue in Australia. An asylum seeker is a person who has fled their own country and applied for protection as a refugee. As an asylum seeker their experience is extremely different to that of a Migrant. • 9. How Did Elvis Presley Influence Society Elvis Aaron Presley, otherwise known as The King was born on January 8th, 1935. He came from simple beginnings; being born into a lower class family in Tupelo, Mississippi. In 1948, at the age of 13 Elvis Presley and his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee. Soon he launched his incredibly successful music career with Sun Records at the age of 19 in 1954. His music was influenced by both African American and White artists causing his unique blend of country, pop, rhythm and blues, and gospel music. Presley was heavily influenced by artists such as Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, and Buddy Holly. Though Presley was widely known for his provocative dances moves and his popularization of Rock n Roll Presley impacted American culture in a much larger aspect. His influence on Americans and American culture aided desegregation and civil rights during his period of influence and helped create youth culture . Presley facilitated desegregation through his music genre and selection. He did this by creating music for both Black and White listeners integrating the two music genres. For instance, Elvis Presley s first single released in July of 1954 began his career of integrating Black and White music. This record contained a cover of That s All Right an R B song which was originally written and recorded by the African American artist Arthur Crudup on side A. While side B was a recording of a cover of the bluegrass song Blue Moon of Kentucky by the white artist Bill Monroe. This representation showed the American people that both Black and White culture could live side by side beautifully. This record also displayed the beginning Presley s attitude and complete disregard for segregation. This portrayal of mixing these cultures came at an especially tense time in American history. Two months before Presley released these songs the case of Brown Vs. Board of Education had come to a ruling. The Brown Vs. Board of Education case was a case filed against the Topeka, Kansas school board because a Black child was denied access to a White school. The plaintiff argued that the segregated schools were separate but not equal and violated the equal protection clause in the 14th amendment. In May of 1954 the U.S. Supreme Court ... • 10. Saint Michael Casting Satan Into Hell One of the art pieces that I have chosen is called Saint Michael Casting Satan into Hell created by Francesco Picano after a design by Lorenzo Vaccarno. This piece was made in 1705 in Italy (Naples) during the times of Italy s Renaissance movement. According to the article Brief History of Italy by Tim Lambert states that, The 18th century was an age of enlightenment when the power of the church was curtailed (sec 8). Which stating that during this time religion was highly focused in their works as a gateway for new ideas. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the third floor, in the center of the exhibit under European art. The reason why I chose this piece is because this piece was interesting, how they represent the idea how it s represented in the stories that was focused in the work. As well as how it s place near the center so people can observe it from many different angles. This piece is a sculpture work that uses Polychromed wood and glass that were carved and molded into and it s at least two feet tall. The next piece that I have chosen is called Dancer s Headpiece in The Form of the Hindu Goddess Kali created in India. It was made in the late 15th century in India, Kerala during the time period of ancient India. This artwork is located at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art inside the Ahmanson building on the Fourth floor on the right hand side of the exhibit under South and Southeast Asian art ... • 13. Descriptive Analysis of Statistical Data Final Project: Statistics II Descriptive analysis of statistical data INTRODUCTION There have always been crimes, from a treachery to an assassination. Happens in every country you can think of, and every government has to deal with it. It is really stressful to try to understand the nature of the crimes: why are they done and where could they happen next. Out of this preoccupation is that we found studies gathering data from communities; we focused on one specific crime: murders. In several communities, it is thought that the murder rate is somehow related to several factors. For instance, it is common to hear that the murder rate depends on poverty and unemployment. Starting from this hypothesis, the database found to make this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now we are using the equation given at the partial F test. It is common that some times one of the independent variables (in this case, percentage of families with income below $5000 and percentage people unemployed) may be linearly related with another independent variable. In other words, there may be a pair of explanatory (independent) variables that measure the same thing or that they depend on each other, so it is recommended to drop one of them because having both causes instability in the model. This means that the equation wouldn t be as precise as it should. This issue is called multicollinearity. To prove if this is the case in our study, we calculated some numbers called correlation coefficients and variance inflation factors. Basically, the rule is that if one of the correlation coefficient between a pair of explanatory variables is higher than 0.9 there is evidence of multicollinearity. Another criteria is that if the variance inflation factor of each explanatory variable is higher than 10, there is a case of multicollinearity, as well. In our study, multicollinearity was not an issue. Another issue when having more than 1 independent variable as predictors is that the presence of one of them may affect the prediction capacity of the other. For being sure that this wasn t happening, we proceeded to perform a stepwise procedure. In this procedure one variable is entered to the equation at a time, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Kubrick And Lynch On The Patriarchy Kubrick and Lynch on the Patriarchy Stanley Kubrick s great breadth of work spans over forty eight years, and due to both his longevity and skill, he has influenced filmmakers from several generations. Kubrick has been named as a creative influence for a myriad of filmmakers, including Steven Spielberg, Woody Allen, Terry Gilliam, the Coen Brothers and Christopher Nolan [2,3]. Kubrick presents sensitive events in an unbiased manner, withholding an opinion on the topic. By not offering a resolution or a stance, he forces viewers to see the evils of man objectively. There is usually no punishment for the morally corrupt acts, because that offers a more accurate portrayal of reality. Characters often do not fully develop in Kubrick films, again as if to replicate reality. These unsettling techniques have left a clear impression on the filmmaker David Lynch. His films often share a sense of amorality that goes unpunished or unaddressed. Their respective world views are equally cynical, criticizing traditionalism in society. Arguably one of the most consistent links between Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch is their portrayal of women in film. Stanley Kubrick does not choose to emphasize the struggles of being a woman in a patriarchal society. Instead, he shows women through the patriarchal gaze. In A Clockwork Orange, women are literally objectified, as plastic statues of naked women are used as coffee tables in the Korova Milk Bar. This introduces the viewers to the protagonist, ... Prior to the 1980 s, this segregated population was viewed as incapable individuals who were dependent on others. As a result, disabled Canadians were denied opportunities to fully exercise their civil rights (Galer, 2015). At the dawn of the Disability Rights Movement in 1980, Canadian legislators were willing and prepared to ignore the rights of Canadians with disabilities. The uniqueness we bring to our reading is essential to the absorption of poems with Imagist elements. An example of this is the poem, The Young Housewife , by William Carlos Williams. Perhaps it was a streak of laziness on my part, but I had very little imagination to offer this poem. Having had no experience as such, I didn t identify with the young housewife, the fish man, the ice man, or even the dramatically fallen leaf. From there, the little details led me to my individual conclusion that this is a poem of oppression and obsession, clichĂ© though they may be. My conclusions were drawn from the very fact that although the speaker in the poem initially seems to be a random passer by, it is obvious that he knows intimate details about the young housewife. The lines of the poem tell us that he knows that she is married and of the negligee that she wears (lines 1 2). It is also curious that he should refer to the specific times of her regular routines (line 1). In my mind, few people would know such things about people and feel them worthy to comment on. Someone who would certainly know and care about these things is the only other character directly mentioned in the poem, her husband. Once I had realized that it could be his voice speaking, the meaning in my mind became a lot clearer. Here is the husband of a young bride. The End Of The Civil War After the Civil War, the fact that slavery was abolished might seem to be the end of the story; however, the problems derived from the abolishment of slavery had yet to be addressed. During the Reconstruction Era, these problems were reflected on the political, social, and economic aspects. Which played several major roles in shaping America from the late nineteenth into the twentieth centuries. These three aspects, political, social, and economical, affected one another so much that they were inseparable. The beginning leniency of Andrew Johnson all the way to the Confederates and later the political conflict between Johnson and the Radical Republicans, and lastly, the political struggle between Republicans and Democrats. It all resulted in the ever changing policies toward the freed people. These different policies had strong effects on the society, especially the freed people. Although some of the policies, such as the abolition of slavery and several Constitutional Amendments were beneficial to the rights of freed people, the sudden increase of freed people brought about the separation of black and white and many other social issues. Thus the real equality among people still had yet to be achieved. The economy also affected the society and the politics. There is an ongoing debate in literary circles whether Johann Wolfgang von Goethe s works should be considered German Classical or European Romanticism. Complicating matters are statements by Goethe such as his infamous statement The Classical I call healthy and the Romantic sick . . . Most of the new poetry is not Romantic because it is new, but it is because it is weak, sickly, and ill, and the old is not Classical because it is old, but because it is strong, fresh, cheerful, and healthy. • 32. Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. In her head, Heather had played and replayed the events of that day countless times, yet the truth still holds. This is the reality. Four days earlier..... You never know what to expect each day until things have played out, you don t know when it might just be your lucky day. Nor do you know the day in which you pass away. Although everyone is saddened by this news, some people had taken fate into their own hands. An 8th of the global population was deceased upon five days of receiving the news. Approximately 10,000 people died of heart attacks just upon receiving the dreadful news. Many more committed suicide, crimes and the chaos claim the lives of numerous others. By now things have settled down, but the changes in the atmosphere are subtle. Now, outside activity is strictly monitored, each person only allowed to be outside for 30 minutes each day. Not only that, many people are already showing side effects of the changing air qualities at ground level, developing a sickness that makes your lungs collapse. This was only the beginning of something that will develop to be much more disastrous. After setting down her bag by the door, Heather flipped open the TV again to check on the updated news, she was shocked. Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison Hofstede s Cultural Dimensions Comparison When a business decides to venture internationally into different countries with its products, services, and operations, it is very important that the company gains an understanding of how the culture of the different societies affects the values found in those societies. Geert Hofstede conducted one of the most famous and most used studies on how culture relates to values. Hofstede study enabled him to compare dimensions of culture across 40 countries. He originally isolated four dimensions of what he claimed summarized different cultures power distance, uncertainty avoidance, individualism versus collectivism, and masculinity versus femininity (Hill, 2013, p.110). To cover aspects of values not discussed in the original paradigm Hofstede has since added two more dimensions Confucianism or long term orientation and indulgence versus self restraint (Hofstede, n.d.). Because of the way Hofstede s cultural dimensions are given an index score from 0 100, it is easy for a company to get a general comparison between the cultures they are expanding into and the culture they are already in. United States versus France For example, if a company based in the United States were going to expand into France, the company could use Hofstede s 6 cultural dimensions to get a general look at the differences between the two. Then out of those differences, the company could see what approaches may or may not work, or what they may need to change, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Miller s The Crucible Self Reputation Reputations Matter More Than You Think Self reputation is an important part of keeping pride and moralities in a person s life, but self absorption can eventually develop from an outstanding care for reputation. Self absorption is a negative trait found in all people sometimes and it can end up causing things to go very wrong for yourself and others. Once someone is purely focused on keeping their reputation and worrying too much of what others think of them, they are overwhelmed by the thought of hiding all mistakes and always making themselves feel superior to others. Throughout Arthur Miller s The Crucible self reputation is a major motivation felt by Abigail Williams and Reverend Parris, which results in Abby accusing innocent people of witchcraft and Parris not helping his people in a time of need; leaving the town in complete disorder and chaos. Abigail Williams is always making sure the people of Salem believe her act of innocence and lying to keep her name white in the town. She wants everyone to think she always tells the truth and is pure, so she will never get in trouble for the dreadful acts she does. She secretly deceits others to keep them on her side and will make up any story to get the blame off of her and on someone else. High cost of internal supplies GM s decline can also be concluded by the failure of cost cut. As sales decline, variable costs, manufacturing costs and material purchases should also be reduced. However, since GM has significant fixed costs, for instance the pensions and healthcare costs, it has been difficult to do costs cut in a successful way. As a result, the total costs of GM remain much higher than the one of its competitors. Wrong evaluation of customer needs Since 1980, GM has failed to respond to customer preference and needs. This resulted in wrong focus on vehicle types in the U.S. market as customers preferred smaller, cheaper and more efficient cars rather than the bigger vehicle that GM had to offer. However, GM s profit mainly relies on the sale of SUVs and trucks, which is no more popular and this led to the decline of sales and revenues. In addition, GM s cars are less fuel efficient compared to its competitors such as Toyota and Honda. This resulted in a decrease of GM sales in Asian and American markets. Furthermore, there is little differentiation among the vehicles produced, so the various customer needs cannot be satisfied and it is more likely for customers to switch to other brands that have better design. 4 External Factors Powerful competitors Toyota, one of GM s most powerful competitor, has ...
