Influence Of The Flappers In The 1920 s
In most culture, women are shaped as either weaker than men or controlled by men. Once, the
ideas of the flapper reached the United States, it had gone uncontrollable and became a fashion
simultaneously. Of course, some things helped to increase the popularity of Flapper because by
only having a belief in independence and freedom for women is just not enough to becoming a
huge influence in society. So, the right timing, creative style, and the sense of attraction will play a
huge role in this. First, the reason the Flappers became popular is because it shows up at the right
period, just after three major events in history, World War One [chap 19, Littell],the 1919 Woman

Civil Right movement [Littell] and 1920s American golden age[]. These... Show more content on

Ever wonder how cars or car companies came about? Henry Ford was instrumental in that
process. He was good at fixing things and could even repair watches. He was born on July 30,

Ketogenic Diet Side Effects
Ketogenic Diet Side Effects During the first few weeks of adopting a ketogenic diet, you may
experience some side effects as your body transitions from burning glucose for energy (as it s
been doing for decades) to burning fat for energy. This is a transition period where your body
undergoes certain biological adaptions, including an increase in fat breakdown and a reduction in
insulin. When this occurs, your liver will produce large amounts of ketones to supply energy for
your brain. Side effects of the ketogenic diet are usually mild and short lived, and all part of the
healing process. Let s take a look at what you may experience during your transition, so you know
what to expect. Increase in Urinary Frequency You may notice you have to visit the... Show more

increase your risk of digestive complaints such as gas, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. The
most common digestive side effect of the ketogenic diet is constipation. According to a single
center, retrospective study of 48 children using a ketogenic diet as an alternative treatment for
epilepsy, 65 percent experienced constipation. Once your body gets used to digesting and
breaking down the healthier food you re eating, you should notice a return to your usual

The Causes And Contributions Of The Human Genome Project
Human Genome ProjectA genome is the complete collection of an organism s genetic material. The
human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of
chromosomes in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome
Project (2000), A single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNAbase pairs,
and it is estimated that the entire human genomeconsists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we
have identified what a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human
Genome Project (HGP) is a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016).
The HGP lasted for 13 years, so the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human
DNA sequence was the main purpose of the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating
specific human traits and inborn diseases with genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was
the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP, 2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline
through which the Human Genome Project got completed. In 1990, the project commenced along
with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI). Fast forwarding to 1995, where the
human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the sequence of the first human
chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed.

Code Geass Rebellion Research Paper
Rebellion is the open opposition to authority, which could be either the government or ruler.
Throughout history there have been many different cases where a group of people are compelled
to defy the authority that rules them. The term rebellion holds a negative connotation that is often
equated to failed revolutions. Many political theorists have researched the motivation that leads
individuals to come together and rebel, and the methods they use to attempt to reach their goals.
Should one only rebel when the systematic repression of a people escalates to a certain level? In
this paper, I will explore the nature of rebellionand how its portrayal in the Japanese Anime Code

1. There are two identical firms EQT Corp and DBT Corp except for their capital structure. For
example none of the firms pay taxes, and EBIT is $22,000 per year for both firms. There is no
growth for any of the firms. EQT is an all equity firm with 1,000 shares outstanding and expected
return of 22%. Since there is no growth, EQT will pay out all earnings to shareholders as
dividends. In contrast, DBT has $40,000 worth of debt outstanding with interest rate of 5%. There
are 500 shares of equity outstanding for DBT Corp. After the interest expense,
DBT will also pay out all the earnings to its shareholders.
(a) What are the equity values of both EQT Corp and DBT Corp? And, what are both companies
stock prices?
(b) What is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What would be the total equity value if Upjohn were 100% equity finance?
1.
(a) Since EQT is an all equity firm, its earnings are $22,000. Thus firm value is the equity value,
which is the discounted future dividends, VEQT =EEQT =$22,000/22% =$100,000. Since there
are 1,000 share outstanding, price of EQT is: PEQT
= $100,000/1,000=$100 per share. DBT is a leveled company. Since DBT and EQT are exactly the
same except for their capital structure. We can consider DBT as the leveled company of EQT.
According to MMI, when there is no tax, the value of an all equity firm should be equal to the
value of the leveled company. Therefore, we have VDBT
=VEQT = $100,000. The total equity value of DBT should be EDBT = VDBT DDBT = $100,000
$40,000 = $60,000.
Therefore, we have the stock price for DBT: PDBT = $60,000/500=$120
(b) The expected return on DBT: ($22,000 5%*$40,000)/$60,000=33.33%. Therefore DBT is
riskier than EQT since
EQT has fewer number of equityholders but bears the same total amount of risk.
(c) John s total dividend payment from holding 200 shares of EQTT Corp is $4,400
(=22%*($100*200)). Since DBT is a leveled company, you need to unlevel yourself by selling some
of your shares in DBT and deposit the proceeds at the risk free rate. Suppose you will need to sell x
shares in DBT, i.e. to deposit ($120*x), your total income flow will be
[$120*(212 x)*33.33%+$120*x*5%].

Ivan Denisovich Individuality
In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, a former Russian soldier from World War II, Ivan
Denisovich Shukhov, is wrongfully sentenced for treason and sent to a Siberian work camp. The
prisoners live in the bitter cold with few resources and strenuous working conditions. Survival
depends on cooperation with the officials and other prisoners. All actions during the day are
structured by camp guards, but even so, Shukhov manages small actions of defiance to maintain his
personal morals and principles. In an environment centered on the destruction of the spirit of the
individual, Shukhov escapes the detached autonomy that many others succumb to. The theme of

The labor camp is in desolate Siberia, where it is frigid and barren. There are few opportunities
to escape the cold, as the prisoners are furnished with only tattered rags for clothes.
Consequently, the cold is an acute struggle for almost every prisoner. When warmth is available,
A man who s warm can t understand a man who s freezing? (Solzhenitsyn 111). The prisoners are
all left to deal with the cold on their own, while the lucky few with soft jobs and power are
allowed to relish in warmth and comfort. Although the prisoners bodies are physically cold, on a
deeper level, someone privileged with authority could never truly relate to someone in a worse
situation. Literally, Tsezar could not fathom how cold Shukhov feels; metaphorically, those with
freedom would not be able to understand the strain of oppression in the same manner as the
oppressed who are suffering. Thus, Shukhov s efforts to adjust to the cold and deprivation, despite
all the rights that have been taken from him, shows the value of his own identity. Extensive
description of the body searches the prisoners are subjected to symbolizes the stripping of
humanity under oppression. When they are searched, every prisoner had had his civvies removed
him down to the very last garment, and they wouldn t be returned, they were told, until they d

The Pain Of Pediatric Pain Management Essay
Pediatric pain management is measured subjectively because it is based off of what the patient
says or how the nurse interprets the pain scale. Pain is rated using different scales, unfortunately
these different scales could yield different results. Nurses are trained to use pediatric pain scales to
analyze and treat painbut parents are not supplied with the tools to manage pain when the patient
goes home. With 84% of all pediatric surgical procedures performed on an outpatient basis, the
importance of teaching parents how to assess for and manage pain has become more important
than ever (Rony, Fortier, Chorney, Perret, Kain, 2010). According to Rony s et al. (2010) study,
it is apparent that pediatric pain is not being treated effectively. The study showed that 58.8% of
children were receiving less than the daily recommended does prescribed by the pediatrician
(p.1). Results of the study also showed that parents had false assessments on if their child was
actually in pain. 36% of parents believed that if their child was in pain, they would cry out for
the parent , 30% agreed that their child would always tell them if they are in pain, while 22% said
that the child would report their pain immediately (Rony, Fortier, Chorney, Perret, Kain, 2010, ).
Children do not always verbalize when they are in pain. Sometimes the pain can be so intense that
a child is unable to talk. If the child catches on to the parents negative perception of pain

Essay about Organized Crime Around the World
When people think of organized crime they think of the Italian mob and the Russian mafia. They
are the ones that they see in movies and on television, and the ones that they hear about the most.
However, they were created a couple centuries after their Asian counterparts, the Yakuza in Japan,
and the Triads in China. These Asian syndicates were founded in the sixteenth and seventeenth
century and consisted of merchants and other people in what was basically the middle class. They
were just groups of poorer people who were just looking for protection or were trying to help other
people. The first organized crimesyndicates were a kind of Robin Hood, they helped the poor. They

Organized crime is now in every major city in the US. The heaviest presence is in New York City,
Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Chicago. The most well known group though, is still the Italian Mafia.
The Italian Mafia in the U.S. can trace its origins all the way back to the Sicilian Mafia which
was founded in Sicily during the 1800 s (Italian Organized Crime). After thousands of years of
different armies with different nationalities conquering Italy and exploiting its people, the
Sicilians became to be more clannish and family focused. Originally they were just resistance
fighters that were protecting their friends and family. They were relied on for protection, justice,
and survival. Nobody cared if they got money from it because it came from the oppressive
authorities. Members of these groups were known as Men of Honor and they were well
respected and even admired because they looked out for their family and kept silent sometimes
even unto death. They didn t become an organized crime group until the 1920 s however (Italian
Organized Crime). It was around this same time that the US began to see what later became La
Cosa Nostra or our thing, better known as the American Mafia which was aided by the thousands
of Italian organized crime figures, mostly Sicilian Mafiosi who came to

Digital Media And Its Effects On Today s Age Essay
The best way to communicate in today s age is through digital media. When reaching out to the
masses digital media is both fast and convenient as it allows us to reach out to millions of people
in a matter of seconds. Large multi million dollar corporations use digital media to reach out to an
individual on the subways of New York City or someone who is on a fishing trip in the deep
woods of North Carolina. In recent years, the United StatesMilitaryhas undertaken corporate digital
media strategies in order to both project an image and recruit potential applicants. Just a few years
ago local recruiters would sit at their offices, smiling and dialing , and looking for perspectives
recruits by dialing direct to home telephones. As home telephones are giving way to new means of
communications such as smart phones, tablets and wearable communication technologies, days of
the old telephone system to cold call potential applicants in their homes is slowly but surely
disappearing. Digital and social media is the present and the future for most if not all organizations
to achieve their marketing and or strategic communications goals. The United States Military s
target audience are seventeen to twenty nine year old applicants who are increasingly spending the
majority of their waking hours utilizing digital media. This paper will attempt to demonstrate
whether or not the United States Military is achieving its recruitment goals through an increase in

The first thing that pops out in the room is the crinkled up wrappers, scattered around the room
everywhere, some torn up and in the trash. There were even some wrappers that were still brand

Essay about Local Economic Development Incentives in the US
Local Economic Development Incentives in the US
1. Description of the Issue Local economic development incentives constitute essential aspects of
urban development economic policies. Such incentives are meant to enhance the development of
cities that are considered underdeveloped. The enticements assume different forms. However, the
common ones are the policies for providing tax incentives together with improvement of
infrastructure (Anderson and Wassmer Bidding for Business 82). Government provides
enticements for financial development in different ranks starting from home and state echelons to
countrywide ranks. Fundamentally, economic incentives refer to the cash and or near cash aid that

Consequently, cost effectiveness of local economic development incentives that are offered to

3. Background of the Issue The challenges of inducing development in metropolitan cities in the
US date back to 1936 when Mississippi became the first state to develop policies for encouraging
industrial development by private stakeholders. Such public policies were sanctioned by the state
that deployed industrial development bonds to achieve this endeavor. Since then, many states and
local governments deploy economic incentives such as IBDs, tax exemptions , TIFAs, enterprise
zones (EZ), general obligation bonds, and local manufacturing revenue bonds among others
(Bradshaw and Blakely 235). The issue is whether these incentives are cost effective in achieving
their desired outcomes.
The above issue has attracted criticism and support from different economic scholars. For instance,
Peters and Fisher claim that such incentives need to be scrapped since subsidization of new
investments has the implication of attracting immigrants who take up jobs, thus

(Gale) However, health issues are not the only challenges an overweight child or adolescent
often faces. Obese children often must also deal with many psychological and emotional
challenges such as a loss of self esteem, depression, anxiety. Not only can obesity in childhood
create difficulties with social development and interfere with education, but it can also create the
opportunity for the children to become victims of harassment and bullying. In addition, as pre
teens hit puberty, obesity can become especially challenging. (Gale) A girl s concerns about her
appearances increase as her body develops and she becomes more aware of society s views of
the perfect body as portrayed in the media. Obesity also allows pre teen girls to be more
susceptible to developing an eating disorder, such as anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating. Crash
diets or over excercising can also become an option to pre teen girls facing obesity. (Gale) From
physical to psychological consequences, obesity in children can be especially dangerous for their
well being. Although obesity rates in children and adolescents are over half less than obesity rates
in adults, many children are still at high risk. The rates can increase if changes are not made over
time and for many, it will develop into adult obesity. Obesity in adults is found, similarly to obesity

Reconstruction Plan Research Paper
There were many different plans for Reconstruction, the period after the Civil War from 1865 1877.
There was President Lincoln s original plan, the Wade Davis Bill, and Presidential and
Congressional Reconstruction. However, none of these plans effectively reconstructed the South.
In December of 1863, Abraham Lincoln proposed the 10 Percent Plan as the first plan for
Reconstruction. In the plan, a Confederate state would be readmitted to the Union, with a new
government created, once ten percent of the state s voters had declared loyalty to the United States.
These people were also required to uphold emancipation. Lincoln said that it would be a cruel
and an astounding breach of faith for anyone to not abide by the laws of emancipation (qtd. in
Goodwin 588). Anyone who took this oath received a full pardon unless they had been a
Confederate official. Lincoln also thought that the entire abolition of slavery, not just in
Confederate states, should be made by a Constitutional amendment. However, this plan was more
of a way to try to diminish the power of the Confederacy during the Civil War than a plan to be
enacted after the war was over. It was officially put into motion in some parts of Union held
territory in the South, but it was never truly supported by locals and Congress didn t recognize is it.

Benefits Of Opening Up A Business In Another Country
Surprisingly, there are many advantages and benefits in opening a company in another country. In
many locations items are in high demand, but the customers cannot get them due to location.
When expanding your location the possibility of getting these good and selling them will be
high. Not only will there be a profit being made, but there could be jobs added to the new
location and help the people there out financially as well as your own company (Joseph, 2017).
Additionally, people like to see new businesses come to their town because it brings customers and
customers have money that builds up their community. Also, another benefit would be a tax break

If there was talk regarding moving headquarters there would be many factors to explore before
any decisions are made. Nothing should be done to hastily to ensure everyone and everything is in
the right order. Moving a business is not a simple overnight task, it takes time, thought, and a lot of
research to get things completed correctly. Everyone would want to start out on a good note and be
in regulations with the new location. This includes rules, laws, and codes.
When the work force meets the new markets it will then need a building up to date and able to
handle the new business. You should ask yourself is their pre existing equipment and will it
handle my new business or will it need to be upgraded. No one wants to buy new equipment up
front unless absolutely necessary. This would be a huge cost and could potentially set the
company back if new equipment is needed. If someone had to come in and repair all the equipment
this would be an additional cost and could potentially set the company back on their budget (Jarratt,
Lewis, Thomas, Huntington, , 2017). So, finding a good location with a building to handle all the
businesses needs with properly working equipment would be the best thing to do. However,
sometimes there will have to be compromises.
The first thing that should be considered or completed before moving a business overseas would
be to make a business plan.

The Alamo is a film based on the Battle of the Alamo. The film begins with bodies scattered
everywhere. At that instant the film flashes back a year to show Sam Houston trying to entice
people to move to Texas. Houston tells Crockett the incentives of moving to Texas and taking the
oath for militia duty. Houston says, You come to Texas

Keeping The Driving Age Essay
Driving is a daily activity to those of age and to some, it is a basic necessity to their lives. When
turning 16 years old is when most people begin driving, but keeping the driving age at 16 causes
accidents and deaths, rather than raising the driving age and making the road a safer place. If a
parent had a choice between their child dying or having an inconvenience of drivingthem around,
hopefully, they would choose having an inconvenience. Imagine a teen is driving with other
underage teens in the car 20 to 30 miles per hour over the speed limit.
Teenage brain development is at a vulnerable state and is not fully developed causing poor
judgment and bad decisions. New findings from brain researchers at the National Institutes of
Health explain that the part of the teenage brain called the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex is the part
that weighs risks, makes judgments, and controls impulsive behavior (Davis). This part of the brain
causes the reckless teen driver s actions and accidents. The National Institutes of Health have
analyzed 4,000 brain scans from 2,000 to document how brains evolve as children mature and has

Henry David Thoreau s Resistance To Civil Government
Have you ever thought that the government had too much power, and didn t have the right
people making the laws that everyone is expected to abide by? There are many people, including
myself, that feel like the leadership we have influencing us in government isn t quite up to par.
Henry David Thoreau was one of those people as well. Though Thoreau had different reasons for
his belief than most do today, such as the war with Mexico and slavery, his principles still stand
strong in my opinion. In Resistance to Civil Government Thoreau starts off by telling us That
government is best which governs least; (945). During his writing he talks about how he doesn t
feel that the government proves itself to be useful to the citizens. He feels that the leaders of his
states government have been elected because of majority and power, instead of their... Show more

Bankston s piece, Thoreau s Case for Political Disengagement , both supports and disproves
Thoreau s insight. He sees Thoreau s point of view, and agrees with is way of peaceful protest.
He even compares the works of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. to Thoreau, by establishing a
common ground in peacefulness and morality between them. On the other hand, however, he
feels that the political quietism that Thoreau uses is not strong enough or clearly justified. He
expressibly makes his point with one statement during his essay; As a member of a family and a
participant in a political order, my own conscience necessarily responds to the demands of my
social position (Bankston). For me, it is easy to see where Bankston stands. He agrees that people
should just not sit by and watch the government run the country into the ground, but he is also not
willing to make stand because it would be against the powerful majority. This concept is exactly
what Thoreau was warning his readers about back then, and it still appears to be heavily debated

Understanding of the different cultural and racial population is important for counselors to

Being rewarded and recognised for their work or contribution is what keeps an employee motivated
to work towards achieving the organisational as well as personal goals. When the employees is
motivated by rewards, they will have job satisfaction consequently increasing the productivity of the

Forrest (as cited in Donovan, 2008) says that before putting any motivation programme together, an

As cited in Zhou, Zhang Montoro Sa МЃnchez (2011) reward management is a key function in

In today s knowledge based economy, innovation has become the principal source of competitive

The endocrine disorders among females are of various types but the most common one is the
polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) which is basically an inherited disorder and can be received
from either parent. The chances of occurrence of this disorder vary from 5 10% among the
females of age group of 12 45 resulting in female sub fertility. This endocrine disorder can be
identified by anovulation which is diagnosed by irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, polycystic
ovaries, ovulation related infertility, excessive secretion of androgenic hormones that cause
hirsutism and acne. High cholesterol level, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance are other known
symptoms. All these symptoms vary among different individuals. The disorder is known by a
number of other names like polycystic ovary disease, functional ovarian hyperandrogenism, ovarian
hyperthecosis and Stein Leventhal syndrome. A polycystic ovary has abnormal number of eggs that

KIDNEY STONES
What are Kidney Stones?
Kidney Stones are also called Renal Calculi. Nephrolithiasis is the condition of having Kidney
Stones . These stones come about from chemicals in the urine, forming a tough crystalline mineral
deposit from within the kidney, that stick together inside the kidney or urinary tract. Typically, they
develop in the inner surfaces of one or both of the kidneys. Supersaturation urine is what actually
creates the stones, this happens when there is an imbalance in the waste chemicals in the urine,
which then causes the stones. As to under saturation urine crystals cannot be formed due to lack
of calcium produced. They can be as little as a grain of sand that can be invisible to the naked eye,

Institutional Sexism In The Workplace
The U.S. is known to have many issues in its society including racism and sexism. There have been
laws that were made in attempt to stop discrimination against color but to this day, women still aren
t seen as equals to men. Institutional sexism is the discrimination of a certain gender at a
workplace. Sexismis portrayed in the differences between the number of men versus the number of
females that have management positions, get higher pay, have more opportunities for advancement
and, are more likely to get hired. This oppression against women can impact lives of many women
emotionally, mentally, and physically. Sexism also leads to sexual violence and domestic violence
because the idea that women and men are unequal causes women to be taken advantage of at home,
at work, and everywhere else. Institutional sexism is a topic that needs to be talked about more
because the U.S. needs have a law that doesn t allow sexual discrimination anywhere. Institutional
sexism in the workplace is an ongoing issue nationally and internationally that takes advantage of
women and their work that needs to stop.
There are many industries and working fields where women weren t trusted to be leaders when

Collective Behavior
Chapter I: The Study of Collective Behavior
A. What Is Collective Behavior?
As we review these pages for the final time sections of Los Angeles are in flames in response to a
jury verdict exonerating police whose beating of an African American man was captured on

for answers to a gas explosion that leveled a 40 square block area. The number of men wearing

be increasing. These diverse actions fall within the area sociologists call collective behavior.

An even more extreme view argues that the field as a whole should be abolished because all
complex social behavior is collective and to a degree dynamic. Hence the field has no unique
subject matter. The collective behavior perspective is thought to apply to all behavior and no
unique concepts, theories or methods are needed to understand it, apart from general sociological
concepts. If we were starting fresh we could certainly find a better name for the field and perhaps
a more logical way of dividing it up (although this could be said of most intellectual fields).
The term collective behavior does not have much literal meaning since strictly speaking it
includes any group behavior. Yet once established, intellectual traditions are slow to change. The
initial definitions of knowledge and questions in this field still exert a powerful hold. Courses
and books usually contain the words collective behavior. Critics of this field raise important
issues, but as in Kipling s fable of the blind persons and the elephant (where each person correctly
identifies a separate part, but all fail to see the whole animal), we think there is a broad logic
uniting the field. The logic involves emergent group behavior in settings where cultural guidelines
are non specific or lacking, inadequate, or in dispute.

The purpose of this experiment is to identity the unknow acid solution through determining the
Ka value of the reaction experimentally. The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of
test tube 1, with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal
violet being cyan. Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test
tube 3 and 4 have higher Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple
in test tube 3, rose and blue in test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that
it has a lower ph than test tube 1. So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143.
Dichloroacetic acid is the second strongest in those 4 acids; this suggests that unknown acid 3 is
dichloroacetic acid.

According to Le Chatelier s principle, the equilibrium shifts to the left, making Phenolphthalein
colorless. At a high ph level where the H3O concentration is low, the equilibrium shifts to the right,
showing the pink color of Phenolphthalein. This allows it to be used in both weak acid strong
base and strong acid strong base titration. In a weak acid and strong base titration, the equivalence
point would be above 7 due to the reaction occur between the conjugated base and water. This
often makes the pH value detectable by Phenolphthalein. In a strong acid and strong base titration
where the equivalence point is 7, the spike of pH around equivalence point is huge and all
indicators at this range change color at the same volume of acid or base. Therefore, using
Phenolphthalein in this case won t cause major

American Pie, by Don McLean Essay
Analysis of the song American Pie , by Don McLean
The song American Pie , by Don McLean, was a major rock and roll hit in 1971. McLean
portrays famous rock and roll singer and songwriter Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in
1961 by using many rhetorical strategies. The different possible interpretations of this song made it
one of the most controversial songs from the 1970 s.
Don McLean was a famous singer/songwriter who was popular in the 1970 s. His music is mostly
classified into rock and roll. The audience of this song can be anyone. The majority of the people
listening to the song in the 1970 s were hippies, or people who had open minds. The purpose of this
song is not just to entertain people with beautiful music, but ... Show more content on

The address to the term, Miss American Pie references a plane that went down killing singer
Buddy Holly. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles
who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. All of the other symbolism in this song
revolves events that happened around that time of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in
the tone of the song to convey this deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big
controversy on what some of the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie
represents the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is
in the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was younger, he
borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses
a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to
pathos in this song.
McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other
singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos
because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect. Pathos was used throughout the whole
piece especially when he said the lovers cried and the poets screamed. This quote describes the
people s sadness towards the death of Holly, which appeals to the listener in many emotional ways.
He also uses

Rhetorical Writing Style Analysis
Acquiring a rhetorical writing style
We all long to write like someone else, maybe it is like authors such as Mark Twain , J.R.R
Tolkien, Ernest Hemingway or Shakespeare although I think the last one is much more like a
dream than an actual aspiration but I desire to write like Stephen King and Stephen Krashen , and
even attain to imitate the manner in which they seem to analyze information, and translate such
material in a form of a well developed argument. As a consequence, it seems that the purpose of
this summer assignment was accomplished , as according to Ms. Olaerts the purpose was to give
you an introduction to the kinds of reading you will see throughout the course and types of analysis
that will be required of that reading. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

all these sources, developing a broader understanding, how things have transformed. Design

from the designer s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and
the requirements for business success. [1] Understanding the brief is significant as this is what

The Watchman Character Traits
Dr. Manhattan
In The Watchman, Dr. Manhattan is a superman who exhibits some very human qualities, while
having other qualities that set him apart from society. At the beginning of The Watchman, Dr.
Manhattan is a very neutral character. He does not do things on a whim; all of his actions are logic
based. He appears to have complete control over the physical realm, including time, though he
seems to struggle with interpersonal relationships. Though Dr. Manhattan changes very little during
the course of The Watchman, the description of his transformation lends valuable insight into his
character.
The strengths of Dr. Manhattan are many; he has almost complete control over matter. The most
notable uses being when he wins the Vietnam War, when he creates a glass masterpiece on Mars,
and when, at the end of the story, he kills Rorschach. This ability, though not a true character trait,
helps to set the scene for the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Manhattan is an extremely rational person and emotions do not have any effect on his decisions.
When Rorschach upsets the Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan simply removes him from the room by
teleportation. His attitude of doing the most rational thing is again demonstrated when, towards the
end of the story, he kills Rorschach, at his request, to prevent him from spreading the truth.
However, between these two events there is a subtle shift in Dr. Manhattan away from looking only
at immediate change to doing something with a more permanent effect. This subtle shift in his
personality shows that he has developed a greater depth of rational thought. Dr. Manhattan s last act
of leaving the earth forever completes this transformation. He realises that right course of action is
to leave, so he leaves. This self imposed exile indicates a movement away from his humanness and
towards a more god like

Roles Of Women In Tudor England
For this assignment I decided to take a look at the roles of women in Tudor England. The era of
Henry VIII has always been one of my favorite times in history to read and I have enjoyed many
books on his life and those of his wives, the most tragic being that of Ann Boleyn, we have all
heard the story of her life and how she arrested and executed. But what was life like for women
during those times? What rights did women have?
We all seem to think that life now is easier than it was back then with all of the technology we
have, but there are some ways in which life back then was better. In today s world kids have video
games to play and computers to help with homework assignments, in the sixteenth century, kids had
chores and played outside.
If we look back on what life was like for women we can see many things that are different today.
Women didn t have any rights as the laws were made and used by men to limit their women s
freedom. They got married and had children in their early teens, sometimes as young as 12, now
women marry when they want after the age of 18. In the sixteenth century, marriages were arranged
and women didn t meet their prospective husbands until the wedding, and marriage back then was
until parted by death. That was until Anne Boleyn told Henry to form the Church of England so he
could divorce Catherine of Aragon. Another difference was women could not own land even if she
was to inherit it, women had to be married; now women can own all the land they

What Is The Positive Impact Of Broadcast Journalism
CNJ 319 Final Exam Leixi Wang 746 words
If there is one thing I believe in is that journalism, specifically broadcast journalism, helped greatly
in the advancement of communications technologies and vice versa. With the introduction of radio
and television, the hunger for more information and accessing the information quicker grew
tremendously. Maybe not the best time in terms of world peace, but with the drive to spread the
information out as fast and as widely as possible, it did help drive for a better further, a more
peaceful future where people received the information first hand and from many different angles.
Even with these technological advancements, it was not always a positive impact on the journalism
front, and I will analyze the pros and cons in this paper.
With the invention of the telegraph, proving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Thus the television was introduced to the general public at around WWII time, where it slowly
took over the radio as the preferred method broadcasting. With television the benefit of having the
image right in front of the viewer brings in more realism to the news, it gives the viewer a better
feel of actually being in the moment. This also changed the way journalism worked, as the
journalists came from the guys doing the background work and writing the scripts to actually being
seen on television or heard on radio.
Over ally technology has brought around more positives than negatives for the journalism industry,
growing the audience base to number that could not have been possible with just newspaper, it
also provided easier ways to engage the viewers and listeners as especially in the 19th and early
20th century there were still many people that could not read. As technology is continuously
impacting journalism now and into the future, there s a chance to see more interesting gadgets that
will gauge the user s interest in

Disadvantages Of The Us Constitution
The UK constitution sets out the powers and limitations of the government, as well as the rights of
citizens, it is not fully codified and is generally based on conventions. This is in stark contrast to
other constitutions, most notably America s, which is fully codified and available to all citizens.
There are benefits to the U.K constitution, mostly regarding it s flexibility. As it is unwritten (or
uncodified), it can react quickly to reflect social change without the need for worrying about
whether something is Constitutional the integration of the European Convention on Human Rights
via the Human Rights Act 1998, as passed under the Blair government, serves to be a good example
of this, but the Constitution s flexibility is also a point of criticism, as this means that no law is
entrenched and those rights are therefore potentially at stake this leads to many liberal arguments
that the constitution should become codified to ensure the citizen s rights are completely protected,
and not reliant on the government of the day s whim.
The current UK constitution has also seen multiple years of stable, if not strong and decisive
government, most recently including a Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition in 2010,
demonstrating that it is, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Did Winthrop s Beliefs Influence The Development Of...
In 1630, John Winthrop formed his ideas for his ideal settlement, City Upon a Hill. He wrote
down his ideas in a document titled A Modell of Christian Charity (Doc 1). In this document, he
planned ideas for a perfect Puritan society. At the start of this settlement, he became the governor of
it. These ideas and values were an important aspect of the political, economic, and social
development of the Puritansociety in New England. The most important values were community,
religion, and education. These values that the Puritans upheld in Winthrop s society are responsible
for the political, economic, and social development of the New England colonies from the 1630s to
1660. The town map from the 1600s showed that the town focused on the church... Show more

New England was known for having more educated people than any other colony, because they
valued religion so much, since the ministers wanted the the knowledge of God to be passed

the knowledge of God down would please God.(Doc 4) The Puritans were known for being
religiously intolerant; they only believed in their religion and did not accept any other. This was
another social impact of the New England colonies. Nathaniel Ward believed that if people were
religiously tolerant they either doubted their religion or were insincere about it(Doc 6). Ward
believed that religious tolerance could start conflict throughout New England. He wanted the state
and church to be together. Nathaniel Ward s statement started controversy. Roger Williams
completely disagreed with Nathaniel Ward s statement. Williams believed that religious tolerance
was a great thing. (Doc 5) Williams wanted others to see his way and join him. A woman named
Anne Hutchinson questioned the ways of the Puritans. She disagreed with the Puritan
government. She quickly left the New England colony after receiving backlash from the
Puritans. Roger Williams decided to create his own colony called Rhode Island. in Rhode Island all

little did his parents know that he would change America forever. George Washington worked

From morning until night he taught his army the art of war. He worked as hard as he could to
make sure his soldiers were ready for anything and everything that could happen on the battle
field. But, training his soldiers was not the only thing that needed to be done. Although the
soldiers were making due at the camp, conditions were far from perfection. He ordered that
camp to be laid out in a way that best fit the soldiers. His instructions were to build a log hut 14
by 16 ft for every 12 men. He also ordered his men to build a bridge over the Schuylkill River to
resupply his army more efficiently. Washington wanted the best for his troops, and in order have
that he needed help from sources outside of Valley Forge. As early as September, 1777,
Washington contacted Alexander Hamilton to ask for supplies such as clothes and blankets,
which the soldiers were in need of. He desperately wrote a letter to congress to inform them of
the harsh conditions, and asking them for any supplies that they would give to his troops. He
wrote, From my soul... I pity these miseries, which it is neither in my power to relieve or prevent
(Bruns, 63 64). Washington also sent men on large expeditions to get food for his soldiers. These
men were successful and most likely saved the army. With all of these efforts combined, his troops
supply dilemma eased and they got back on track for the war. Although the winter was harsh,
conditions gradually improved under the leadership of

  • 2. Influence Of The Flappers In The 1920 s In most culture, women are shaped as either weaker than men or controlled by men. Once, the ideas of the flapper reached the United States, it had gone uncontrollable and became a fashion simultaneously. Of course, some things helped to increase the popularity of Flapper because by only having a belief in independence and freedom for women is just not enough to becoming a huge influence in society. So, the right timing, creative style, and the sense of attraction will play a huge role in this. First, the reason the Flappers became popular is because it shows up at the right period, just after three major events in history, World War One [chap 19, Littell],the 1919 Woman s Civil Right movement [Littell] and 1920s American golden age[]. Ketogenic Diet Side Effects Ketogenic Diet Side Effects During the first few weeks of adopting a ketogenic diet, you may experience some side effects as your body transitions from burning glucose for energy (as it s been doing for decades) to burning fat for energy. This is a transition period where your body undergoes certain biological adaptions, including an increase in fat breakdown and a reduction in insulin. When this occurs, your liver will produce large amounts of ketones to supply energy for your brain. Side effects of the ketogenic diet are usually mild and short lived, and all part of the healing process. Let s take a look at what you may experience during your transition, so you know what to expect. Increase in Urinary Frequency You may notice you have to visit the... • 6. The Causes And Contributions Of The Human Genome Project Human Genome ProjectA genome is the complete collection of an organism s genetic material. The human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome Project (2000), A single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNAbase pairs, and it is estimated that the entire human genomeconsists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we have identified what a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project (HGP) is a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). The HGP lasted for 13 years, so the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human DNA sequence was the main purpose of the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating specific human traits and inborn diseases with genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP, 2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline through which the Human Genome Project got completed. In 1990, the project commenced along with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI). Fast forwarding to 1995, where the human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the sequence of the first human chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed. • 7. Code Geass Rebellion Research Paper Rebellion is the open opposition to authority, which could be either the government or ruler. Throughout history there have been many different cases where a group of people are compelled to defy the authority that rules them. The term rebellion holds a negative connotation that is often equated to failed revolutions. Many political theorists have researched the motivation that leads individuals to come together and rebel, and the methods they use to attempt to reach their goals. Should one only rebel when the systematic repression of a people escalates to a certain level? In this paper, I will explore the nature of rebellionand how its portrayal in the Japanese Anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion affects it s consumers perception.... For example none of the firms pay taxes, and EBIT is $22,000 per year for both firms. There is no growth for any of the firms. EQT is an all equity firm with 1,000 shares outstanding and expected return of 22%. Since there is no growth, EQT will pay out all earnings to shareholders as dividends. In contrast, DBT has $40,000 worth of debt outstanding with interest rate of 5%. There are 500 shares of equity outstanding for DBT Corp. After the interest expense, DBT will also pay out all the earnings to its shareholders. (a) What are the equity values of both EQT Corp and DBT Corp? And, what are both companies stock prices? (b) What is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What would be the total equity value if Upjohn were 100% equity finance? 1. (a) Since EQT is an all equity firm, its earnings are $22,000. Thus firm value is the equity value, which is the discounted future dividends, VEQT =EEQT =$22,000/22% =$100,000. Since there are 1,000 share outstanding, price of EQT is: PEQT = $100,000/1,000=$100 per share. DBT is a leveled company. Since DBT and EQT are exactly the same except for their capital structure. We can consider DBT as the leveled company of EQT. According to MMI, when there is no tax, the value of an all equity firm should be equal to the value of the leveled company. Therefore, we have VDBT =VEQT = $100,000. The total equity value of DBT should be EDBT = VDBT DDBT = $100,000 $40,000 = $60,000. Therefore, we have the stock price for DBT: PDBT = $60,000/500=$120 (b) The expected return on DBT: ($22,000 5%*$40,000)/$60,000=33.33%. Therefore DBT is riskier than EQT since EQT has fewer number of equityholders but bears the same total amount of risk. (c) John s total dividend payment from holding 200 shares of EQTT Corp is $4,400 (=22%*($100*200)). Since DBT is a leveled company, you need to unlevel yourself by selling some of your shares in DBT and deposit the proceeds at the risk free rate. Ivan Denisovich Individuality In One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, a former Russian soldier from World War II, Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, is wrongfully sentenced for treason and sent to a Siberian work camp. The prisoners live in the bitter cold with few resources and strenuous working conditions. Survival depends on cooperation with the officials and other prisoners. All actions during the day are structured by camp guards, but even so, Shukhov manages small actions of defiance to maintain his personal morals and principles. The labor camp is in desolate Siberia, where it is frigid and barren. There are few opportunities to escape the cold, as the prisoners are furnished with only tattered rags for clothes. Consequently, the cold is an acute struggle for almost every prisoner. When warmth is available, A man who s warm can t understand a man who s freezing? (Solzhenitsyn 111). The prisoners are all left to deal with the cold on their own, while the lucky few with soft jobs and power are allowed to relish in warmth and comfort. Although the prisoners bodies are physically cold, on a deeper level, someone privileged with authority could never truly relate to someone in a worse situation. Literally, Tsezar could not fathom how cold Shukhov feels; metaphorically, those with freedom would not be able to understand the strain of oppression in the same manner as the oppressed who are suffering. Thus, Shukhov s efforts to adjust to the cold and deprivation, despite all the rights that have been taken from him, shows the value of his own identity. Extensive description of the body searches the prisoners are subjected to symbolizes the stripping of humanity under oppression. • 10. The Pain Of Pediatric Pain Management Essay Pediatric pain management is measured subjectively because it is based off of what the patient says or how the nurse interprets the pain scale. Pain is rated using different scales, unfortunately these different scales could yield different results. Nurses are trained to use pediatric pain scales to analyze and treat painbut parents are not supplied with the tools to manage pain when the patient goes home. With 84% of all pediatric surgical procedures performed on an outpatient basis, the importance of teaching parents how to assess for and manage pain has become more important than ever (Rony, Fortier, Chorney, Perret, Kain, 2010). According to Rony s et al. (2010) study, it is apparent that pediatric pain is not being treated effectively. The study showed that 58.8% of children were receiving less than the daily recommended does prescribed by the pediatrician (p.1). Results of the study also showed that parents had false assessments on if their child was actually in pain. 36% of parents believed that if their child was in pain, they would cry out for the parent , 30% agreed that their child would always tell them if they are in pain, while 22% said that the child would report their pain immediately (Rony, Fortier, Chorney, Perret, Kain, 2010, ). The Italian Mafia in the U.S. can trace its origins all the way back to the Sicilian Mafia which was founded in Sicily during the 1800 s (Italian Organized Crime). After thousands of years of different armies with different nationalities conquering Italy and exploiting its people, the Sicilians became to be more clannish and family focused. Originally they were just resistance fighters that were protecting their friends and family. They were relied on for protection, justice, and survival. Nobody cared if they got money from it because it came from the oppressive authorities. Members of these groups were known as Men of Honor and they were well respected and even admired because they looked out for their family and kept silent sometimes even unto death. They didn t become an organized crime group until the 1920 s however (Italian Organized Crime). When reaching out to the masses digital media is both fast and convenient as it allows us to reach out to millions of people in a matter of seconds. Large multi million dollar corporations use digital media to reach out to an individual on the subways of New York City or someone who is on a fishing trip in the deep woods of North Carolina. In recent years, the United StatesMilitaryhas undertaken corporate digital media strategies in order to both project an image and recruit potential applicants. Just a few years ago local recruiters would sit at their offices, smiling and dialing , and looking for perspectives recruits by dialing direct to home telephones. As home telephones are giving way to new means of communications such as smart phones, tablets and wearable communication technologies, days of the old telephone system to cold call potential applicants in their homes is slowly but surely disappearing. There were even some wrappers that were still brand new, some on tubs and bottles, and some of them unfinished and uncolored. These wrappers had all different colors and designs, but they all read, Ez Energy. All of the wrappers were very glossy but also smooth, you could hear the crinkle noise when you felt the wrappers. However, the common ones are the policies for providing tax incentives together with improvement of infrastructure (Anderson and Wassmer Bidding for Business 82). Consequently, cost effectiveness of local economic development incentives that are offered to metropolitan areas such as Detroit is crucial in speeding the process of improving the livelihoods and security amongst metropolitan urban populations. 3. Such public policies were sanctioned by the state that deployed industrial development bonds to achieve this endeavor. Since then, many states and local governments deploy economic incentives such as IBDs, tax exemptions , TIFAs, enterprise zones (EZ), general obligation bonds, and local manufacturing revenue bonds among others (Bradshaw and Blakely 235). The issue is whether these incentives are cost effective in achieving their desired outcomes. The above issue has attracted criticism and support from different economic scholars. • 18. Reconstruction Plan Research Paper There were many different plans for Reconstruction, the period after the Civil War from 1865 1877. There was President Lincoln s original plan, the Wade Davis Bill, and Presidential and Congressional Reconstruction. However, none of these plans effectively reconstructed the South. In December of 1863, Abraham Lincoln proposed the 10 Percent Plan as the first plan for Reconstruction. In the plan, a Confederate state would be readmitted to the Union, with a new government created, once ten percent of the state s voters had declared loyalty to the United States. These people were also required to uphold emancipation. Lincoln said that it would be a cruel and an astounding breach of faith for anyone to not abide by the laws of emancipation (qtd. in Goodwin 588). Anyone who took this oath received a full pardon unless they had been a Confederate official. Lincoln also thought that the entire abolition of slavery, not just in Confederate states, should be made by a Constitutional amendment. However, this plan was more of a way to try to diminish the power of the Confederacy during the Civil War than a plan to be enacted after the war was over. As we review these pages for the final time sections of Los Angeles are in flames in response to a jury verdict exonerating police whose beating of an African American man was captured on videotape. Supporters and opponents of abortion take to the streets daily. Mexico City searches for answers to a gas explosion that leveled a 40 square block area. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An even more extreme view argues that the field as a whole should be abolished because all complex social behavior is collective and to a degree dynamic. Hence the field has no unique subject matter. The collective behavior perspective is thought to apply to all behavior and no unique concepts, theories or methods are needed to understand it, apart from general sociological concepts. If we were starting fresh we could certainly find a better name for the field and perhaps a more logical way of dividing it up (although this could be said of most intellectual fields). The term collective behavior does not have much literal meaning since strictly speaking it includes any group behavior. Yet once established, intellectual traditions are slow to change. The initial definitions of knowledge and questions in this field still exert a powerful hold. Courses and books usually contain the words collective behavior. Critics of this field raise important issues, but as in Kipling s fable of the blind persons and the elephant (where each person correctly identifies a separate part, but all fail to see the whole animal), we think there is a broad logic uniting the field. The logic involves emergent group behavior in settings where cultural guidelines are non specific or lacking, inadequate, or in dispute. B. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The colors of unknown acid 3 matches the colors of test tube 1, with thymol blue being light pink, malachite green being dark green and crystal violet being cyan. Comparing it to other 3 test tubes, test tube 2 has a similar result. Both test tube 3 and 4 have higher Ph than 1 and 2, since thymol blue is yellow and crystal violet is purple in test tube 3, rose and blue in test tube 4. Crystal violet is green in test tube 2, which shows that it has a lower ph than test tube 1. So, the order of acidity from most acidic to least acidic is 2143. Dichloroacetic acid is the second strongest in those 4 acids; this suggests that unknown acid 3 is dichloroacetic acid. The line, The quartet practiced in the park, refers to the famous pop group Beatles who became famous shortly after the death of Holly. All of the other symbolism in this song revolves events that happened around that time of Holly s death. McLean uses informal irony in the tone of the song to convey this deep symbolism. Because of the depth, there is a big controversy on what some of the words represent. Some people even think Miss American Pie represents the civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr.. One example of McLean s use of irony is in the story about Holly. The irony comes from how he describes when Holly was younger, he borrowed a coat from James Dean, and then many years later he was a famous singer. McLean uses a subjective point of view as he uses his interpretations, comments, and judgments to appeal to pathos in this song. McLean uses only two of the rhetorical appeals. Ethos is used when he describes the other singers most people know about. And while Lenin read a book on Marx, emphasizes ethos because Lenin was a famous singer who people respect. The era of Henry VIII has always been one of my favorite times in history to read and I have enjoyed many books on his life and those of his wives, the most tragic being that of Ann Boleyn, we have all heard the story of her life and how she arrested and executed. But what was life like for women during those times? What rights did women have? We all seem to think that life now is easier than it was back then with all of the technology we have, but there are some ways in which life back then was better. In today s world kids have video games to play and computers to help with homework assignments, in the sixteenth century, kids had chores and played outside. If we look back on what life was like for women we can see many things that are different today. Women didn t have any rights as the laws were made and used by men to limit their women s freedom. They got married and had children in their early teens, sometimes as young as 12, now women marry when they want after the age of 18. In the sixteenth century, marriages were arranged and women didn t meet their prospective husbands until the wedding, and marriage back then was until parted by death. This is in stark contrast to other constitutions, most notably America s, which is fully codified and available to all citizens. There are benefits to the U.K constitution, mostly regarding it s flexibility. As it is unwritten (or uncodified), it can react quickly to reflect social change without the need for worrying about whether something is Constitutional the integration of the European Convention on Human Rights via the Human Rights Act 1998, as passed under the Blair government, serves to be a good example of this, but the Constitution s flexibility is also a point of criticism, as this means that no law is entrenched and those rights are therefore potentially at stake this leads to many liberal arguments that the constitution should become codified to ensure the citizen s rights are completely protected, and not reliant on the government of the day s whim.
