Unpredictable and Predictable Life Events
Health and Social Care
Unit 4 P3
Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the
development of an individual.
The two unpredictable life events I am going to focus on in Michael Jackson s life are his abuse
and divorce.
Abuse Bullying
As a young child Michael suffered abuse and enforcement to succeed by his father. Michael has
said that this has affected his physical development as there had been times when his father
would come to see him and he would be sick. This was just from the fear he had of his father
hurting him if he did not do well. Michael s dad used to sit in a chair with a belt, watching him
and his brother s rehearsing. This was to deter them from not doing it right and if ... Show more

It would have possibly damaged his self esteem as he may have questioned why he was unable
to have a loving relationship for a long period of time with anyone so far in his life. This would
have led to him feeling again even lower about himself. Michael would have been left with
possible resentment and been grieving and depressed for a while as he learnt to adapt to life
without Lisa. Although they divorced it may have had its positive sides to Michael s
developments as he may have learnt to not rush into such a serious relationship and also to be
completely sure that the person he decides to marry is really the person he wants to spend the rest
of his life with.
Two predictable events that would have taken place in Michael s life are his successful music
career and him leaving home.
Music Career
Michael was predicted to be a success in the Music Industry from a very young age. His music
career practically took off at the age of five as he became the lead singer of The Jackson Five .
As him and his brothers were also under strict rehearsals and practice by their father Joe Jackson,
it was seen predictable that this band would go far and especially Michael. As he was so young,
it was not hard to guess that as Michael grew so his talent would also. This major life event which
progressed as Michael did shaped his whole life. As music was possibly the most important thing
for Michael throughout his whole life, he would have learnt a lot about

Wisconsin Fast Plants Grow Experiment
In this experiment we are testing the effect of fertilizer on the speed of plant growth. We
prepared a 4 quad cell, 1 control group and 3 experimental groups. So, we had one with no
fertilizer, one with three seeds of fertilizer, one with six seeds of fertilizer, and lastly, one with
nine seeds of fertilizer. The plants that we grew were called Wisconsin Fast Plants, members of
the crucifer family. These plants are small and easy to grow, but for optimal growth they require
continuous fertilizer, water, fluorescent light, and temperature between 18 degrees Celsius and 26
degrees Celsius 24 hours a day. Fertilizers are substances that are put into soils to increase the
growth of the plant. There are two different types of fertilizers, synthetic... Show more content on

Beforehand, I believed that, if fertilizer speeds the growth of plants, then the 9 pellets of
fertilizer were going to make the biggest plant the fastest. I thought this because it would have
the most fertilizer and if fertilizer speeds up the growth of plants then 9 must speed it up the
most. However, I was not completely right with my initial prediction. My personal data came to
the conclusion that the 3 pellets made the plant grow the fastest but in the class data by the end
the average data showed that 9 pellets showed the most growth. This experiment was set up as
four different plant seeds in four different quadrants. Each of the four quadrants had a different
amount of fertilizer. We watered them and planted them in soil then every week we checked in on
our plants. We measured the size if the plants and then recorded it and put them back under the
fluorescent light. Then everyone recorded their data and we watched the class data on average,
then the last day we measured the mass of the plants and found the class data. So although my
prediction of 9 pellets of fertilizer creating the most growth was true in the class data, it was not
true in my individual

Modern Day Korean Culture
Korean culture is comprised of a multitude of societal changes that have amounted and transformed
throughout the years. Beginning five thousand years ago Korea has slowly evolved into a cultural
haven. Music, dance, painting, food, fashion, arts, games, karate, family life, theater, religion and
beliefs are just a few components that make up modern day Korean culture. Korean cuisineis one of
the most unifying of all of these cultural factors. The food in Korea is one of the defining elements
of Koreans culture because of its historical background, environmental affinities, long lasting
creative techniques and recipes, and use in traditional ceremonies and festivals. Modern day cuisine

The exchange of food boded well for all countries involved. New cultural foods were being shown
to Korea that they had never before seen. Not only did trade with other countries introduce a
variety of new foods to Korea, Western missionaries traveling through Korea also proved to be a
huge component in cultural cuisine exchange.
After the fall of Joseon Dynasty, there was a thirty six year period of colonization by the
government of Japan. With Japan in power, the adoption of many Japanese cultural ways,
including agricultural techniques and systems, was inevitable. Some of these new techniques
involved combining smaller farms into large scale farms to help yield a larger amount of crops,
which would be exported to Japan. The problem was that although crop production, especially
rice production, was increasing most of these crops were being shipped out of the country. To make
up for this loss, Koreans also began to increase the production of grains such as millet and barley
for Korean use only. Under Japanese control, the way meals were eaten and served also changed
Korean s lives. Koreans began to eat only two meals a day during cold season and three a day
during warm seasons. The meals became very repetitive with little variation on a day to day basis.
The lower levels of society would share a single bowl of white rice and the rest of their meals were

How The Apollo Missions Changed Space Travel
Space is something that we humans are never going to be able to comprehend and understand what
it is exactly. But knowing that still is not going to stop us from trying to know as much about space
as we possibly can. The Apollo missions took that step to reaching greater heights, and landing on
our moonto know more about what it is and what is on it. These missions changed our look on
space travel and what humans can accomplish if we put our minds to it.
The Apollo Program started in 1963 and went all the way through 1972. On January 27, 1967
there was an accident during the preflight test for Apollo 1. The Astronauts on that flight were
named Virgil Grissom, Edward White, and Roger Chaffee. They all lost their lives in a fire on
Apollo 1. What started the fire was an electrical failure in the command module which ignited the
inside of the ship with the Astronauts trapped inside with no way out. (Loff, Sarah)

Mandate Of Heaven Theory
Ancient China s rich history directly influenced China of the 21st century. The cultivation of rice
became a staple source of food in China for centuries. The primary source of accounts of ancient
china come from the Shujing, which spanned the Xia, Shang, and Zhou empires. The role of
women s reached its heights during the Shang empire, with Fu Hao, and underwent a downward
trajectory from the Zhou empire and the beginnings of confucius. The regime changes are unique in
Chinadue to the Mandate of Heaven which gave new regimes the control over the civilians of the
conquered empires, such as the Zhou when it conquered the Shang empire. The decline of the Zhou

The Zhou were able to utilize the mandate of heaven to allow them to justify their conquering of
the Shang, which enabled the defeated Shang commoners to live within the Zhou empire
(Sivers, Desnoyers and Stow 105). The growth of the Zhou was facilitated by the consolidation
of power within the Shang during their decline, which enacted the Zhou state to conduct a
military campaign against the Shang (Sivers, Desnoyers and Stow 105). The decline of the
Zhou empire commenced once the various Zhou states began promoting their own interests at
the expense of the empire (Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 106). As a result of the power held by
local rulers under feudalism the Zhou central government began to quickly lose power (Sivers,
Desnoyers, and Stow 107). The Zhou s decision to relocate their capital isolated itself from
various states undergoing economic success (Sivers, Desnoyers, and Stow 107). Furthermore,
states began deferring power to larger states in what came to be known as hegemony (Sivers,
Desnoyers, and Stow 107). Ultimately, the leading state s fight for influence along with a civil war
in Jin led to the Warring states period and dissolved what remained of the Zhou empire (Sivers,

will talk about the leadership philosophy of two female leaders Jean Watson and Michelle
Obama, and how their leadership skills have impacted many lives. The purpose of this paper is to
discuss what it means to be a leader, types, and characteristics of a leader, why it is important to
have an effective leader, qualities, and behaviors that contribute to effective leadership, and compare
and contrast between the different types of leadership styles and theories. A nursing theorist, Jean

Lastly, and very important, the skill to communicate efficiently in order to achieve the projected
goals (Weiss and Tappen, 2015 p.4). If leaders have the first two skills mentioned above and lack
effective communication skill, such leaders would not be able to express themselves well about
their anticipated plans to their target population, and this can cause flaws that will affect their
leadership.
Furthermore, there are different theories which give insights about why some leaders lead the
way they do. One of these theories is the behavioral theory, it emphasized on what leaders do and
their leadership styles. The behavioral theory explains three different types of leadership styles
namely: autocratic, democratic, and laissez faire. An autocratic leader makes plans, gives
direction on how to execute them, and makes decisions for the group. These type of leaders are
highly power control. They give little or no freedom to the members. Whatever they say is final.
On the other hand, democratic leaders allow members to participate in the decision making. They
seek opinions of the members. On the other hand, laissez faire leaders allow members to do
whatever they like. This type of leaders does very little planning or decision making thus fail to
encourage others to do it (Weiss and Tappen, 2015 p.

An Islamic Language Of Iran

once Persia until 1935, Iran. The official language of Iran is but not limited to Persian. Also
spoken in Iran is Azeri Turkic and Turkic, Mazandarani, Luri, Balochi, Gilaki and Arabic. Iran s
population includes Persians, Kurds, Lur, Baloch, Azeri, Arab, and Turkic tribes. Islam

Classical vocal improvised music has some, while composed, metric pieces with ceremonial
implications, such as the pishdaramad, are definitely musiqi but lack the full range of objectionable
characteristics suggested in pieces with a primarily virtuoso intent, such as the chahar mezrab, or of
Westernized music, to say nothing of absolutely secular music such as night club performances. All
of this suggests that, in contemporary urban Iran, the sounds that might be considered to be simply
music in Western culture might be regarded as music, but to varying degrees.
The dominant sounds in Iran are the metallic and clear sounds. Persian classical music has free
form which can be measured or not and is open to improvisation (ГўvГўz/ chahГўrmezrГўb).
Moreover, from one maqГўm (system of melodic modes) to another, all the melodies resemble each
other, differing mainly by their scale. It is an ingenuous imitation technique, which has been
developed by the Central Asian masters. The musical form has no rules. Styles vary from calls at a
measured pace on a single note, or within a narrow range centred on one note, to richly melismatic
chants with a wide range. Rhythmic structure is influenced by the length of the syllables in the text.
Textual repetition often leads to repeated musical phrases differing only in their final note.

The Importance Of Protecting Businesses By Using Patents,...
You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another Leviticus 19:11 (Dake s Annontated
Reference Bible) is the basic principle of life as well business. Everyone understands what stealing
means, but forgets you are stealing when you take a business s logo, name, trademark, or identity.
Stealing does not have to be a physical object that belongs to a business. It can be something that
they have created such as a song or product. This paper will talk about the importance of protecting
businesses by using patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets, and businesses propertyrights.
Patents
The United States Patent Office is where companies or individuals can file documents to obtain a
legal monopoly for a product or process that they have created (Jennings, 2015). Three types of
patents include utility or machines lasting 20 years, the design, or production that lasts 14 years,
and plant that lasts 20 years. Because of the race to be the first person to invent or create a
product the America Invents Act (AIA) came about in 2011. This allowed Americans to compete
with other countries that had filed before them as well as increase the patent process from 3 to 4
years to 12 months. A patent holder has the right to solely profit from the patent. If someone steals
the idea the individual has created then they have done a patent infringement. This entitles the
patent holder to damages and legal action against the party that stole the idea. In order for a

Drug Decriminalization
The Alcohol and other drug (AOD) field is dynamic and fluid and is constantly being shaped by
a variety of forces (The Department of Health, 2004). Illicit drug use is a widespread issue
around the world, posturing significant social and economic costs to the health care system,
justice department and social welfare systems in both developing and developed countries
(Damrongplasit, Hsiao, Zhao, 2012). Criminal Justice and addictive drugs have been tangled in
Australia and internationally for a century or more. Ever since the addictive and destructive
properties were discover within certain drugs, officials have declared the production, distribution,
sale and possession of drugs to be illegal (Sherman Valenta, 2015). Throughout this article, there
will be a focus on firstly, drug legislation and decriminalisation with a focus on marijuana,
followed by harm minimisation Firstly, Drug related crimes take up a large portion of the work of
police, prisons and the courts (Ritter, 2017) In many countries, including Australia, the issue of
varying the laws regarding marijuana use has received growing attention in the media and the
scientific community (Lenton Ovenden, 1996). There have been many discussions made in favor
for and against the legalization and/or decriminalization of drugs. The legalization of drugs means,
you are able to acquire, possess and use the said drug without criminal charges (Clausen, 2016)
while Decriminalization can be defined as a reduction of

Analysis Of Gertrude Stein s I Ain t No Oxford
With so many rules in the English language, it is easy for one to wonder how they were created.
The dictionary, for example, was only created a few hundred years ago by people who thought
that was how language was supposed to be. Many artists have had the mission to go forward and
break these rules. Gertrude Stein s Tender Buttons, bill bissett s text bites, and John Agard s I Ain

disrupt words, use non standard prose, and have ambiguous interpretations they break the rules of

A line just distinguishes it (Stein, p.6). While asking what is the flattering length she ends up
defining it by a line. A line can only be defined by a contour or outline. It cannot be defined by
actual matter. Therefore, the serene length ends up being defined by not being able to be
defined. This gives readers an unending openness to interpretation and perspective. In Gertrude
Stein s Water Raining she leaves the reader without any certainty. Stein writes Water is
astonishing and difficult altogether makes a meadow and a stroke (Stein, p. 10). Without the
use of punctuation, the reader is able to interrupt the poem according to how one sees fit.
Placing a period after astonishing (Stein, p. 10) makes it so the meadow and stroke are
strenuous on their own. A period after altogether (Stein, p. 10) leave the meadow and stroke to
come as an aftermath from the water. While a period after meadow (Stein, p. 10) gives serenity a
meadow will come from water but, a stroke is an afterthought. Stein was not the only one to use
visual art to make literature. bill bissett as a visual artist and writer links his worlds together. At
first glance, bill bissett s poetry seems to be hard to understand, nonsensical, and almost a fallacy.
bissett s use of synecdoche pushes the reader to reexamine how one reads a poem in the first
place. The poem flows from whole to part. Particularly in text bites the words come across

Essay on Objectification of Women in The House of Mirth
Objectification of Women in The House of Mirth
Edith Wharton s The House of Mirth is an affront to the false social values of fashionable New
York society. The heroine is Lily Bart, a woman who is destroyed by the very society that produces
her. Lily is well born but poor. The story traces the decline of Lilyas she moves through a series of
living residences, from houses to hotel lodgings. Lily lives in a New York society where
appearances are all. Women have a decorative function in such an environment, and even her
name, Lily, suggests she is a flower of femininity, i.e. an object of decoration as well as of
desirability to the male element. We see this is very true once Lily s bloom fades, as it were, a time
when she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The irony of the situation is that most women who are accepted by society and are able to
maintain the role of being something worthy to look at are able to do so only because of a
husband who supplies them with the necessary funds to achieve it. In other words, in a male
dominated society wherein women largely need the financial support of men to be accepted, they
have become commodities. Lily recognizes this predicament when she ponders her marriage to
Percy Gryce, a position where she would be to him what his Americana hitherto had been: the one
possession in which he took sufficient pride to spend money on (Wharton 65).
Yet, this very society that demand its women be superficial creatures that merit worth only by
appearance is also one which immediately rejects a woman who seems intent on marrying a man
with wealth the one course open to women who wish to be accepted in society. This may be
where one of Lily s character qualities prevents her from being able to join such a society. She is
no good at hiding her desire to marry a man of wealth. In fact, she even tells Selden, her true love,
that she is very expensive and must have a great deal of money (Wharton 31). These kinds of
admissions make Lily appear to be the one thing this superficial society cannot bear a scheming
adventuress out to snag a rich

Mistakes are normal. Everyone makes mistakes; there are no exceptions. Mistakes help us to evolve
and to grow both personally and professionally. We can learn from our mistakes, therefore allowing
continuous improvements. Mistakes are learning experiences that can drives innovations and
successes. The opportunity to make mistakes is crucial while learningbecause they allow us to
develop and grow. Mistakes help us to recognize what we did wrong, which allows to seek other

Dyson thrives by the mistakes he makes as well as doubt from others. He is an innovator with a
lot of knowledge and drive. Dyson is a great candidate to mentor recent college graduates because
he is the epitome of never give up . He does not allow errors and mishaps to define him. He takes
the misfortunes and unfavorable decisions to propel him for greatness.
Dyson promotes creativity. I believe that he would recommend that students stay focused and learn
from their errors rather than quit their efforts. Dyson would advise to never allow your current
situation define your outcome. He would suggest that students learn from past experiences. He
would stress the importance of not focusing on the error itself, but how we recovered from it.
James Dyson encourages students that making error are accepted and expected. Innovation is
the key to improving a business. Innovation helps to find better ways of doing things to support
business improvement and growth. In my opinion, businesses could learn valuable information
in regards to training from James Dyson. Dyson would point out that sometimes hiring the
experienced can lead to slow progress. It may be difficult to train seasoned workers new or changed
ideas because seasoned representatives are used to the old policies and procedures. Training new
fresher associates can be helpful because they are eager to learn and they have a desire to do well.
Fresher associates are willing to find better ways rather than a work

The Pattern And Content Of East Asian Economic Integration
4.1.1. The Pattern and Content of East Asian Economic Integration
The most representative regional economic organization in East Asia is ASEAN, which was
established in Bangkok and formed by five founding members, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines,
Singapore, and Thailand. Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia also joined successively
to form the ten countries of ASEAN. ASEAN is abbreviated by Association of Southeast Asian
Nations, which was built to contain the Communist forces with the purpose to steady military
affairs and political neutrality initially. According to Tong (2005), the content of East Asian
economic integration can be classified as Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Comprehensive
Economic Partnership (CEP). Previously, East Asian economic integration focuses on the operation
of FTA which applies the zero tariffs on member countries; nowadays, economic cooperation
agreement is inclined to CEP which contains wider issues of economic cooperation such as tariff
reduction, deregulation of investment policy, enlargement of factors of production and etc. to draw
the relation between member nations and achieve a higher level of integration (Jin, 2003).
Moreover, the continuing goal of ASEAN is to promote the inter regional economic development,
enhance the partnership and maintain the peace in the region (Taiwan ASEAN Studies Center,
2014). Before Asian financial crisis, ASEAN is a representative of the regional economic
organization that especially focuses on

The text explains about estrogen like compounds that can be found in products that we use daily,
as well as cosmetics, plastic, pesticides and detergents. Clearly, estrogens are essential for normal
human physiology but can have serious adverse effects if allowed to accumulate in the
environment and enter the human food chain (Adeel, Song, Wang Yand, 2017). A very important
information is that even a person that avoid contact with products potentially dangerous, can be
affected indirectly by another form of contamination. One of the examples of the Silent Spring

persist in soil for many years, even decades. There is an interesting worldwide distribution of
estrogens; the pattern of various types of estrogen may reflect sources of estrogens or specific
environmental characteristics of that part of the world (Adeel, Song, Wang Yand, 2017). Cosmetics
are also another category of products that deserve attention in this matter. The Silent Spring Review

American Jewish History Summary
The National Museum of American Jewish History officially opened its doors Friday,
November 26th, 2010. According to their website, the NMAJH exists to recount the story of
how the Jews who migrated to America from around the world became today s Jewish
Americans(CITED). Joachim Gans was the first documented Jew to arrive in America, circa
1585, as part of an expedition commissioned by Queen Elizabeth to explore the new world to
determine if there was any ore in America of value (CITED, BARUCHSTERMAN). Gans was able
to report on a land rich with resources of great economic value. This information provided
encouragement for England to continue its objective to colonize America with the next major

As anti Semitism was rapidly growing in Russia and Eastern Europe, the economic and social
promise of America beckoned. With the breakout of World War I, the number of immigrants
increased rapidly. During this time, individual states regulated immigration. New York State s
immigration station, known as Castle Garden, was ill equipped to handle the growing number of
immigrants arriving daily; the federal government soon intervened and in 1892, constructed a new
Federally operated immigration station we know as Ellis Island (CITED, ELLISISLAND).

Disney On Broadway Research Paper
Disney has taken the world by storm from movies to games to television and now even theatre.
Disney is no stranger to the silver screen or to your home television screens, but it has now made
its mark on Broadway stages around the globe. Since the early 1990 s, dozens of Disney films
have been adapted into Broadway classics. When one show stops, another one begins. Storming
into its 24th year, Disney on Broadway is one of the most successful theatre enterprises in the
world reaching millions of audience members in more than 40 countries (Tallarico). Before
Disney revamped the theatrical world, 42nd Street and the surrounding Times Square area was in
total disarray. The 1980 s Time Square was a place for drug dealers, hustlers, and prostitutes to
seek haven in. It was not until Mayor Rudy Giuliani invited major family friendly companies such
as Disney to come in and revitalize the town that 42nd Street became a safer place. Disney changed

The audience comes for a familiar story transformed onstage with cutting edge technology to
thrill the audience and advance industry standards (Pressley). One of the biggest advantages of
Disney on Broadway is a guaranteed audience that is familiar with the storyline and music, as
well as a large company that is able to handle any negative reviews (Kearney). One reason for the
increase in ticket sales for Disney in the past twenty years is due to the safer environment after the
redesign of 42nd Street (Horn). Because of this, more children and senior citizens come to enjoy
the shows. Tourists make up the biggest percentage of those who purchase Broadway tickets.
Therefore, commercial theatre relies heavily on recognizable names to coax audience members
into the theatres (How Disney). Disney is one of the top grossing companies in the world, making

Human Activities And Its Effects On The Environment Essay
Abstract Singapore and Malaysia are deeply affected with situations such as haze in the atmosphere
due to several causes that are mainly due to human activities. The interesting part about the issue is
that human activities are done in recklessness and in turn affect other human activities in the
process. Humanactivities such as education proves that human beings are not like any other living
organisms on the planet. Hence, we notice that education has to go on just like other activities
which include economic development and the health industry. Moreover, there are other causes of
the haze which entails the natural calamities such as heavy rainfall and tsunami. The industrial
activities have been affecting the geographical environment of the two countries negatively. Hence,
judging by this, life becomes very difficult for both human and animals as their health is at risk. If
the issue is addressed effectively then there will be a great improvement on health, education and
economyin the two countries.
Keywords: haze, health, tsunami, industrial activities.

result of the haze from Indonesia s forest fires. As of 2015 the choking became more intense due
to air pollution at the same time cutting off flights and important activities. Schools in Singapore
and Malaysia have been affected as a result of this choking. In Malaysia wildlife have been

Role Of The Railroads Shifted Over Time
The role of the railroads shifted over time. Eight months after the United States entered the First
World War in 1918, President Woodrow Wilson called for the country s railroads to be
nationalized to mean the demands of the war. He did so under the Federal Possession and
Control Act. As part of this process, he also decided to have new steam engines and cars
designed to boost the abilities of the rail industry. He also arranged for the Railroad Control Act
which took place in 1920. This act stated that when a peace treaty was signed, within 21 months,
the railroads would be returned to their owners and compensation would be given for use of
property. This did occur and the railroads were returned to private property. Railroads not... Show

one person at a time as they discovered and implemented a connection that would advance the
industry. However, there were some key individuals who greatly influenced the process. As
previously mentioned, Colonel John Stevens was an influential individual as he was a spark
towards the first American railroad. Another instrumental individual was James Hill. Hill is
known for his expansion of the railroads. He was a U.S. and Canadian railroad executive. He
owned and grew the Great Northern Railway Company, and he also added additional companies.
Jay Gould was another influential railroad executive. He is best known for his work as a
financer and developer of projects in the rail industry. The influential people are not limited to
only rails though. Cornelius Vanderbilt was known for his part in the shipping industry as a
whole. He started out with a steamboat company, moved into steamships, and then expanded to
include railroads. He also implemented the first service rail between New York and Chicago. In the
same way, there are some principal companies who serve as fundamental pieces of the industry
today. These main companies are referred to as Class 1 Railroads. In order for a railroad to be
classified as Class 1 it must have an operating revenue of $433.2 million or more. There are

The main suppliers are the Equator, Netherlands, France, Italy, Mexico, Germany, etc. the main
buyers are the U.S., Russia, etc. the market is pretty big but the risk are high as well. In order for
the company to survive it must maintain a very efficient supply chain from the producer to the
consumer. Equator who is big supplier of flower in the world enjoys quite a competitive
advantage in relation to its main competitors. Equator has cheap labor cost, 12 hour a day sun,
and the fact that farms are very close to the airport. But in recent years these competitive
advantages have been matched by other producer in North Africa, Asia, Colombia, India and
more recently China. China, India, and Colombia focus on producing great quantity of flower at
a lower cost whereas Equator focuses in producing its flower in high quality rather than quantity.
The pick of the market is around the month of February. During this time the price of flower
tends to rise due to the heavy demand allowing companies to generate 1/3 of their revenue around
this time. Equator supplies 25% of the rose in the world. For every 1 flower sold in France there

Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb challenges the beliefs of
war and equates war to a mockery created by sexually crippled men. The most symbolic scene in
the film, one that truly exemplifies what Kubrick was trying to show his audience, is the famous
riding of the bomb scene in which actor Slim Pickens howls with satisfaction and lust as he
plummets toward earth with an atomic bomb firmly between his legs. Kubrick s effect is to make
the audience want to see that bomb dropped which is the climax with Kong riding it. His mind far

Masculinity In In Bad Neighbours
Media, especially Hollywood Film, has been one of the foremost vehicles for the perpetuation of
masculine hegemony, not only in the West, but the world over. Much of our behavioural cues are
taken from what we observe on screen. The question of whether or not life imitates art is central
in attempting to understand how our desires come to exist in the first place, and to what degree
these desires are natural, or a byproduct of the incessant behavioural suggestions we consume via

Conflict and reconciliation in familial relationships in Literature
Hayden s Those Winter Sundays , Baldwin Sonny s blues and Grimm brothers Cinderella describes
certain sensitive situations most families sometimes find themselves in when disagreeing on
diverse issues that can be resolved when parties are determined to. In these pieces of literature,
family conflicts are portrayed as simple disagreements that in certain cases result in family break
ups and unnecessary hostilities. These pieces of work are very explicit and affirm that in any
situation where there are facts, inclinations, and distress, there is a relatively high possibility for
conflicts to occur. However, contrary to the popular opinion, these fundamental causes of family
conflicts are human made and can be resolved when proper channels are followed in a
collaborative manner as portrayed in these three literatures. Indeed, virtually all families are at one
period of time obliged to pass through diverse everyday conflicts, but with determination and
acceptance of mistakes, appropriate processes of reconciliation can be instituted and the family
ultimately return back to normalcy.
This piece of work by Grimm brothers describes a familial conflict pitting a step mother and step
daughter who is obliged to unite after the sudden death of her birth mother. Grimm brothers rues the

Social Class In The Victorian Age
The books of Dickens have a place completely with the philanthropic development of the
Victorian Age, of which they are, in fact, in the circle of fiction, by a wide margin an essential
item and expression. He was from first to last a writer for a reason. Dickens embarked to assault
some particular mishandle or misuse existing towards youngsters and ladies amid the Victorian
period. Amid the Modern Insurgency, the Victorian culture comprised of a hierarchical structure
include the privileged, trailed by the white collar class, the average workers and the ruined
underclass. These distinctive social classes could be recognized by disparities in territories, for
example, legislative issues, specialist, riches, training, culture, working and living conditions.
Individuals from the lower class were seen as nonsensical, juvenile, superstitious, ruthless,
exorbitantly sexual and tarnished. Because of the feebleness of the lower class people, they were
oppressed to misuse and treatment like that of creatures. In light of destitution, kids were
constrained into youngster work and compelled to act as fireplace sweepers, and they could slither
up the twelve by fourteen inch stacks, some as little as seven inches square, with the goal that they
would get out the yearly standard of forty gallons of sediment that was kept there. Some young
men moved toward becoming rodent catchers, and they were required to utilize arsenic to harm the

The Light Globe The Light Globe, since its early invention, has quickly become one of the basic
essentials of the modern technological world we know of today. The multiple sources that are

The Effects Of Drilling On Offshore Drilling
To spark a drastic change, typically something drastic and eye opening needs to occur. Looking
back in recent United States history, there have been many accidents, attacks, and natural
disasters that have sparked conversation as well as legislation for change. The BP oil spill in the
Gulf of Mexico, which began on April 20, 2010 and raged on for months caused tremendous
devastation and pollution to the ecosystem. Discussion about offshore oil drilling and regulations
was inevitable after the spill. In President Obama s Oval Office speech after the spill, he makes a
claim that offshore drilling must be more strictly regulated, and a shift towards clean, renewable
energymust be made. In light of this disaster this is a controversial claim due to the United States
current reliance on offshore drilling and the scandalously close relationship between oil companies
and the agency that regulates them. Although Americans benefit from offshore drilling with
cheaper oil prices and affordable energy, and companies benefit from loose regulations with high
profitability, ecosystems and natives suffering through the spill would argue that these benefits do
not outweigh the cost. When President Obama claims that strict regulation on oil drilling and a
shift toward renewable energy through policy implementation, he threatens a powerhouse market
that is a major player in the economy. He also creates a divide in schools of thought over the reach
government through regulation. This paper

Chuck Palahniuk s Fight Club is a seductive novel which chronicles an unnamed narrator s ability
to cope with an emasculated, self centered, materialistic society by creating an alter ego.
Throughout the text, the theme of the emasculated modern man is presented both in the life of the
narrator, and in the lives of the male characters he surrounds himself with. Through notions of
absent fathers, consumerism and an innocuous/aimless existence, Palahniuk presents how men in
modern society have lost their masculine identity and the extreme actions they go to in order to
obtain it again. Belittled by their absent fathers, broken homes, and a feminine centered society, the

The Fight Club, then, is a way which men can express their angst in a much more masculine,
albeit sadomasochistic, way. The invention of Fight Club is never stated directly, but its
intention is indicated through the language of the narrator and the rationale of its members.
Foremost, the narrator describes the members of Fight Club as a generation of men raised by
women (50). The masculine identity, then, is an identity which has been lost to the feminized
egotism in a deranged reality of postmodernism. Coupled with the lack of absent fathers the
generation of modern men are wildly feminized. The narrator describes how his father
abandoned him to set up new families or franchises (50) every six years, and states that he is a
thirty year old boy [...] wondering if another woman is really the answer [he] needs (51). The
absent fathers in the narrator s, and equally in Tyler s, life eventually lead to the invention of Fight
Club. Fight club is a way in which emasculated men can act the way men are supposed to and
finally find a masculine figure to model themselves after. In creating Tyler, the narrator s search for
a masculine model is taken to the extreme. Tyler is a manifestation of man who the narrator and
other men can model themselves after. Tyler represents the masculine identity, Tyler is funny and
charming and forceful and independent, and men look up to him and expect him to change their

Race As A Social Construct Essay
An important dialogue has been created amongst historians. This dialogue is based on whether
or not race is a biological factor or a social construct. Both ideas will be explored. Race plays a
large role in our society. Certain races have stigmas associated with them that ultimately lead to
discrimination. Whereas, certain races are granted more privilege. Our society is based on this
racial hierarchy, and white people are at the top while Black people are at the bottom. Though,
gender does play a role in the hierarchical order, to answer the overarching question gender will not
be included nor considered. Furthermore, societal perceptions of racediffer based on region. Within

concept of being multiracial is currently being more accepted. Over time, our perception of what
and who can be considered what race and when constantly varies. For example, in 1929
Mexicans in America were considered white but in 1930 they were considered non white on the

categories are constantly evolving based on the overall societal environment and this can be seen
in the way an ethnic groups race was changed throughout history for sheer convenience. Race is a

biological factors in race are due to evolution, isolation, and adaptation over time that causes select

There are several intervention strategies and approaches for the conflict intervention, such as
problem solving, compromise, expansion of resources, organization redesign and activism.
However, problem solving, institutional redesign, expansion of resources, and activism are very
important intervention tools for this conflict. Problem solving strategy focuses on the attainment of
the common interests of the parties, however, it has significant weakness or limitations as well.
Organization redesign refers to restructuring the existing system, which allows to mix

Sampling
The population for the study of excessive use of force will be of correctional officers with the
most use of force as well as correctional officers that don t have many uses of force. The proposed
study would be of use of force reports as well as any other maintained records of correctional
officers within the department. The use of forces reports to include records would be placed in
categories to identify the officers that used excessive force then from officers that did not use
excessive force in situations. These categories would require the sampling strategy method because

( Use of force, 2017).
Information about probability sampling strategy would be a list of the correctional officers that
have the most documented use of force compared to the list of correctional officers that have the

mitigated to reduce that risk. Observing correctional officers use force as it happens could create
potential risks that include: the researchers could be put in harm s way by the onset or during the
confrontation of either the correctional officer or the inmate ( Hudson v. McMillian,

Ladies And Gentlemen Of The Jury Analysis
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury. I will present to you today three reasons why Mr. Edgar Allan
Poe is clearly sane. The first piece of evidence includes the quote, Madmen know nothing. But
you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded with what caution with
what foresight, with what dissimulation, I went to work! This evidence clearly presents that
Edgar is sane, because he is evidently knowledgeable of his surrounding areas. He is also much
aware of the caution that he took. To prohibit caution requires sane. What you mistake for madness
is but over acuteness of the senses. Edgar in this statement. Is clearly aware of his senses. Rather,
Edgar is presenting that he is so sane that he even questions if the

  • 2. Unpredictable and Predictable Life Events Health and Social Care Unit 4 P3 Explain the influences of two predictable and two unpredictable major life events on the development of an individual. The two unpredictable life events I am going to focus on in Michael Jackson s life are his abuse and divorce. Abuse Bullying As a young child Michael suffered abuse and enforcement to succeed by his father. Michael has said that this has affected his physical development as there had been times when his father would come to see him and he would be sick. This was just from the fear he had of his father hurting him if he did not do well. Michael s dad used to sit in a chair with a belt, watching him and his brother s rehearsing. This was to deter them from not doing it right and if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would have possibly damaged his self esteem as he may have questioned why he was unable to have a loving relationship for a long period of time with anyone so far in his life. This would have led to him feeling again even lower about himself. Michael would have been left with possible resentment and been grieving and depressed for a while as he learnt to adapt to life without Lisa. Although they divorced it may have had its positive sides to Michael s developments as he may have learnt to not rush into such a serious relationship and also to be completely sure that the person he decides to marry is really the person he wants to spend the rest of his life with. Two predictable events that would have taken place in Michael s life are his successful music career and him leaving home. Music Career Michael was predicted to be a success in the Music Industry from a very young age. His music career practically took off at the age of five as he became the lead singer of The Jackson Five . As him and his brothers were also under strict rehearsals and practice by their father Joe Jackson, it was seen predictable that this band would go far and especially Michael. As he was so young, it was not hard to guess that as Michael grew so his talent would also. This major life event which progressed as Michael did shaped his whole life. • 3. Wisconsin Fast Plants Grow Experiment In this experiment we are testing the effect of fertilizer on the speed of plant growth. We prepared a 4 quad cell, 1 control group and 3 experimental groups. So, we had one with no fertilizer, one with three seeds of fertilizer, one with six seeds of fertilizer, and lastly, one with nine seeds of fertilizer. The plants that we grew were called Wisconsin Fast Plants, members of the crucifer family. These plants are small and easy to grow, but for optimal growth they require continuous fertilizer, water, fluorescent light, and temperature between 18 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius 24 hours a day. Fertilizers are substances that are put into soils to increase the growth of the plant. There are two different types of fertilizers, synthetic... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Beforehand, I believed that, if fertilizer speeds the growth of plants, then the 9 pellets of fertilizer were going to make the biggest plant the fastest. I thought this because it would have the most fertilizer and if fertilizer speeds up the growth of plants then 9 must speed it up the most. However, I was not completely right with my initial prediction. My personal data came to the conclusion that the 3 pellets made the plant grow the fastest but in the class data by the end the average data showed that 9 pellets showed the most growth. This experiment was set up as four different plant seeds in four different quadrants. Each of the four quadrants had a different amount of fertilizer. We watered them and planted them in soil then every week we checked in on our plants. We measured the size if the plants and then recorded it and put them back under the fluorescent light. Then everyone recorded their data and we watched the class data on average, then the last day we measured the mass of the plants and found the class data. So although my prediction of 9 pellets of fertilizer creating the most growth was true in the class data, it was not true in my individual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

New cultural foods were being shown to Korea that they had never before seen. Not only did trade with other countries introduce a variety of new foods to Korea, Western missionaries traveling through Korea also proved to be a huge component in cultural cuisine exchange. After the fall of Joseon Dynasty, there was a thirty six year period of colonization by the government of Japan. With Japan in power, the adoption of many Japanese cultural ways, including agricultural techniques and systems, was inevitable. Some of these new techniques involved combining smaller farms into large scale farms to help yield a larger amount of crops, which would be exported to Japan. The problem was that although crop production, especially rice production, was increasing most of these crops were being shipped out of the country. To make up for this loss, Koreans also began to increase the production of grains such as millet and barley for Korean use only. Under Japanese control, the way meals were eaten and served also changed Korean s lives. Koreans began to eat only two meals a day during cold season and three a day during warm seasons. The meals became very repetitive with little variation on a day to day basis. The lower levels of society would share a single bowl of white rice and the rest of their meals were ... Three types of patents include utility or machines lasting 20 years, the design, or production that lasts 14 years, and plant that lasts 20 years. The heroine is Lily Bart, a woman who is destroyed by the very society that produces her. Lily is well born but poor. The story traces the decline of Lilyas she moves through a series of living residences, from houses to hotel lodgings. Lily lives in a New York society where appearances are all. Women have a decorative function in such an environment, and even her name, Lily, suggests she is a flower of femininity, i.e. an object of decoration as well as of desirability to the male element. The irony of the situation is that most women who are accepted by society and are able to maintain the role of being something worthy to look at are able to do so only because of a husband who supplies them with the necessary funds to achieve it. Lily recognizes this predicament when she ponders her marriage to Percy Gryce, a position where she would be to him what his Americana hitherto had been: the one possession in which he took sufficient pride to spend money on (Wharton 65). Yet, this very society that demand its women be superficial creatures that merit worth only by appearance is also one which immediately rejects a woman who seems intent on marrying a man with wealth the one course open to women who wish to be accepted in society. This may be where one of Lily s character qualities prevents her from being able to join such a society. She is no good at hiding her desire to marry a man of wealth. In fact, she even tells Selden, her true love, that she is very expensive and must have a great deal of money (Wharton 31). Looking back in recent United States history, there have been many accidents, attacks, and natural disasters that have sparked conversation as well as legislation for change. The BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which began on April 20, 2010 and raged on for months caused tremendous devastation and pollution to the ecosystem. Discussion about offshore oil drilling and regulations was inevitable after the spill. In President Obama s Oval Office speech after the spill, he makes a claim that offshore drilling must be more strictly regulated, and a shift towards clean, renewable energymust be made. In light of this disaster this is a controversial claim due to the United States current reliance on offshore drilling and the scandalously close relationship between oil companies and the agency that regulates them. Although Americans benefit from offshore drilling with cheaper oil prices and affordable energy, and companies benefit from loose regulations with high profitability, ecosystems and natives suffering through the spill would argue that these benefits do not outweigh the cost. When President Obama claims that strict regulation on oil drilling and a shift toward renewable energy through policy implementation, he threatens a powerhouse market that is a major player in the economy. He also creates a divide in schools of thought over the reach government through regulation. This paper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Foremost, the narrator describes the members of Fight Club as a generation of men raised by women (50). The masculine identity, then, is an identity which has been lost to the feminized egotism in a deranged reality of postmodernism.
