Events from the 1960s
The 1960s is a decade filled with a series of remarkable and significant events that still resonate today.
From the charismatic John F. Kennedy winning the nation s highest office to Vietnam War, the 1960s
was a decade of transformational changes (Whithaus, 2004). Adding to this transformation were a host
of technological breakthroughs.
For the first time in American history a presidential political debate, between John F. Kennedy and
Richard Nixon, was aired on TV. In 1963 Lee Harvey Oswald was murdered by Jack Ruby on camera.
Furthermore, in 1965 the first instant replay added a new dimension to sports coverage. In 1967, all
three major network shows were broadcasted in color. Finally, in 1969, television televises men on the

Today, computers are found everywhere and people rely upon them for travel directions,
entertainment, purchasing products, and social interactions.
I became interested in computers during the early 1990s and it happened right in my house. Within my
community no one really knew what a programmer was or how to become one. At first, programmers
were the engineers the circuits and processors. In April 1990, I volunteered to help my brother, a
Computer Information Systems major at UTPA, to program the IBM 1401. I was 13 years old, had
graduated from high school five years later, and decided to study the field of computers, specifically
information technology (IT). In today s high tech world, virtually every business needs computer
networking professionals to set up and maintain an in office network (Irvine, 2011). This includes a
variety of tasks such as engineering the network infrastructure, administering Windows systems and
maintaining an email system (Irvine, 2011).
These jobs were made possible because of the development of computers. Computers provides me
with a variety of career paths, stability, and more importantly higher pay. According to the United
States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in computer networking is expected to outpace the
average for all occupations, adding 286,600 new jobs within the decade of 2008 to 2018 (Irvine,
2011). Because of the growing need for

Descriptive Essay About Mt Rainier
The majestic mountain towers over the Washington state landscape and can be visible from most
vantage point in the Seattle metro area. See the main Seattle page here. Mt. Rainier is an active
volcano that is always topped with snow. It has 26 main glaciers the most on any mountain in the
lower 48 US states. It is more than 14 thousand feet high and spawns 6 major rivers and many
waterfalls. The national park around the mountain was established in 1899 as the fifth national park in
the United States and it encompasses 236,381 acres. Along with the towering peak of Rainer, the park
s expansive area includes many mountains, meadows, old growth forests, rivers and waterfalls.
Interesting Facts: On clear days Mt Rainier can be seen as far away as Corvallis, British Columbia and
Oregon. The park is popular for hiking, climbing and winter sports. Most visitors go for a day trip, but
some like to stay at the campgrounds and Inns. On a recent tour with Customized Tours , we spent a
day exploring this beautiful park and majestic mountain. We started from Seattle and headed south
towards the Nisqually entrance. Along the way, we stopped at Puyallup to stretch our legs and buy
some supplies. The town has a large Fred Myers grocery store with everything you can think off
including a Starbucks. It was good stop for breakfast. Interesting Facts: Some ice cave in the mountain

Duddy Kravitz Quotes
In the novel The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz, Mordecai Richler tells a coming of age story about
a young boy named Duddy Kravitz. During Kravitz s time in highschool he is a boy driven by the
want to get everything so he can sell it for money. His greed for multiple things throughout his teenage
and adult years becomes an ideology for Duddy and he will not stop at getting what he wants until he
is satisfied. His desire for wealth and fortune throughout the novel becomes a dominant theme and
affects everyone that he is around. Kravitz s greed results in the makeup of some of the most
significant parts of the novel including his downfall.

Virgil gets into a car accident on his first night out on the truck. The cause of this was an accident but
Duddy took advantage of Virgil even when he knew the job was dangerous (251). Duddy s actions are

moves on to get more money. Yvette distances herself from Duddy and takes over a fulltime job
helping Virgil live his everyday life. These events are all the consequences of Duddy s greed, just so
that he can buy his land. Throughout his coming of age his greed increases and as the novel progresses
he loses more personal things just for money. After he loses his workplace Duddy s greed has already
resulted in a major downfall because it changed the way he acted towards his peers, and after they left
his businesses began to crumble. Ironically Duddy goes back to work the taxi for money, trying to
rebuild himself, and still trying to get money for the lake. His relentless work is both good and bad, as
he is trying to good things but ultimately his greed gets the better of him and he makes a bad decision.
These decisions continue into the final part of the novel where Duddy becomes a man but is so close
to his goal that his greed for money becomes

Operations Of Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab
Operations of Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab
I. Overview History
Joe s Stone Crab was founded in Miami Beach in 1913. Joe Weiss and his wife, Jennie, moved to
Florida from the north in order to relieve his asthma. At this time, stone crabs were not viewed as
edible. There was a large number of them so an ichthyologist came to Weiss stating that they were safe
for human consumption. Weiss experimented with cooking the crab and discovered they were a
delicacy when served chilled with his special mustard sauce. By 1918, Joe and Jennie opened their
permanent restaurant in Miami Beach on Washington Ave that is still open to this day.
Meanwhile, in 1970 s Chicago, Richard Melman worked with a couple different partners and investors
to build a network of restaurants in the Chicagoland area called Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, or
commonly LEYE . By the mid 1980s, his network of restaurants employed about 2,000 people in the
Chicago area and annual revenues stood at about $40 million (Wilson). In 1999, Melman teamed up
with the second generation of Weisses to partner to create a location in Chicago, called Joe s Seafood,
Prime Steak, Stone Crab (a slightly different name to differentiate from the original). In 2005, LEYE
partnered with the Weisses to open Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab in Las Vegas and again in
2014 to open the third in Washington, D.C.
Melman chose to open the very first Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab (henceforth to be

Examining the Anti-Immigration Policies Essay
Examining the Anti Immigration Policies
United States immigration policies are designed as deterrents to immigration into the United States.
Frankly, their message has always been Stay out! Recently, California policies have taken a harsher
stab at immigration, namely Mexican immigrants that constitute the largest Latin American minority
in the United States. This paper intends to examine these policies, the effects they have had on the
Mexican population in California, and the connection they have to the anti immigrant sentiment felt
throughout the country.
First, though, looking closely at anti immigrant sentiment in America and policies that have been

During World War II, the U.S. and Mexico reached an agreement in which a massive number of
Mexicans would be transported to America as temporary workers in agriculture because of the
anticipated worker shortage created by the war. (6) Of all the labor used in production throughout the
first half of the century, 75 percent is believed to be Mexican. (7) It is obvious then that since the
beginning of the century, the United States has been a source of employment for Mexicans out of
work and it is this attitude which has created the incentive for Mexican migration during the latter half
of the century.
Anti immigrant sentiments felt in America have much to do with this attitude. The fact is that most
Mexicans immigrate to this country in search of employment and of a better life for their children, as
do most other immigrants into the U.S . This is seen as an economic threat by many Americans
because of the large number of Mexicans residing in the United States: 62 percent of the entire
Hispanic population of America as of 1988.(8)
California, which is home to the largest Mexican population in the U.S., has vigorously expresses its
discontent with the current status of immigration. Pete Wilson, governor of California and an anti
immigrant proponent, claims that the large numbers of immigrants settling in California are reeking
havoc on its economy. According to him, Los Angeles alone is inhabited by

Border Action Network Analysis
Larkin Lacey on topic article The Border Action Network is a leading instate human rights advocacy
group serving border communities throughout Arizona. Established in 1999, the community based
organization activities are grounded in grassroots leadership and organization to be able to serve
marginalized immigrants, criminalized and militarized immigrants along with border communities.
The organization s mission is to advance equality, understanding, justice and dignity among humans of
diverse sexual orientation, religion, race and country of origin. To attain its aims, the Border Action
Network also plays the role of ombudsman, by linking immigrants with policy makers at all levels of
government from state to the national level in order to address deficient areas in the law. The

not only beneficial to pick a book that is related to the academic objective, but also a book that the

Descriptive Essay About The Mountains
When the sun slowly peeps over the range of mountains, birds shake the morning dew off their
feathers and give a cheerful song that would lift even the most sorrowful of spirits. A light fog wraps
around the mountain range, reaching to touch every bit of life thriving there. The slight chill in the air
is enough to give a gentle shiver, but not enough for the need of a jacket. A breeze tickles the trees,
making their leaves shake and sway with laughter. Sunlight seeps in past the thick canopy of branches
with hopes of being able to reach the damp mountain earth. The mountains are the best place to live to
be relaxed, see the most beauty, and never get bored.
There is a relaxing feel of the mountains making it perfect for letting the stress disappear and peace to
find its way to one s soul. There are many people who love the mountains and live in them, but there
is so much space that they hardly ever see each other. Less people means that there is less judgement
by them, which means there is more freedom to be the person wanted to be without worry about that
pesky inner critic. For someone who is not very social and has anxiety whenever I have to talk to
another human, the mountains are the perfect place to get away from all of that and be the most
relaxed. I love the homey feel and peaceful atmosphere. There are no noisy neighbors or loud
machines building skyscrapers, there is a quiet chirping bird sitting on the window sill, a soft, cool

Causes Of Imperialism In Ww1
WWI imperialism
Nineteenth century liberals believed that if European states were organized along national lines, these
states would work together and create a peaceful Europe. They were wrong. (Textbook WWI) In 1914,
European leaders thought a balance of powers would be a good chance for the European countries, so
no one country could overpower another. Germany was not ok with that change, and formed a alliance
with Italy and Austria Hungry, this alliance was called the Triple Alliance. In response, Russia, Great
Britain, and France formed what was called the Triple Entente. A Serbian group called the Black Hand
also was important during this time. They assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, and
soon after the war started. In 1914, imperialism is one of the main underlying causes of WWI because
of the Triple Alliance/ Triple Entente, strengthening military forces, and the population of the
countries.
In 1914, imperialism was a main underlying cause of WWI because of the Triple Alliance and the
Triple Entente. The tension between countries was matched by tension within countries. Especially in
southeastern Europe, in the area known as a Balkans, the spirit of nationalism and independence ran
high. Some ethnic groups revolted. The region was a powder keg. All that it lacked was a spark to set
it off. ( Underlying cause of WWI 307) This is important and supports imperialism because of the war,

New Swipe Card System At London Heathrow Airport
As described by Palmer, Dunlap Akin, at the start of the peak holiday season, British Airways (BA)
employees at London Heathrow airport participated in a 24 hour wildcat strike due to the
implementation of a timeswipe card system that would monitor the employees clocked in and out
hours. To the executives, this change represented an improvement in technology that would increase
organizational efficiency. To the staff, however, this change represented something entirely different;
distrust and disrespect.BA executives had a history of ensuring that the organization was taken care of
at the expense of its employees. Jobs were cut, agreements were broken, and this new swipe card
system was just another example of the executives finding a way to monitor and control the staff to
the organization s economic gain. The staff feared that management would monitor their hours and
send them home during off hours and then call them back to duty at peak hours. In addition, the way
in which the change was communicated to the staff was what propelled the staff to revolt. The
executives sprung the change initiative on the staff with little warning and provided inconsistent
reasons for the necessity of the change. This made it nearly impossible for the staff to accept or adjust
to the change in a positive way.
The strike resulted in enormous losses to BA in terms of customers, employee morale, and overall
company reputation. Executives at BA did take a step back and reflect on their

Fishing on Eagle Lake Essay
The mid May morning that Blaine, Roger and I set out on our annual fishing trip to Eagle Lake in the

boat via the portage station at Indian Stream, and the lone building on the shores of the lake is the
Ranger s cabin. When we drove into the parking lot at the portage station, I noticed the game warden

Soper Brook is a thing of true beauty. On both banks of the stream, the trees hang down as if they are

Roger to look, but as soon as they gandered over the shadowy figure had disappeared within the
densely wooded area. I must have been imagining things, I thought to myself. On our way back to the
campsite, we noticed something amiss. Adjacent to our campsite, a massive fire was roaring. The thick
gray smoke from the fire was billowing into the sky, hovering over a good portion of the lower lake.
The smoke danced as the wind pushed it around. Ranger s going to have a heart attack when he sees

Ebola Virus Is A Serious Virus Disease
Ebola Virus is a serious transmitted disease by both humans and animals. The disease first appeared in
1976 in 2 simultaneous outbreaks, one in Nzara, Sudan, and the other in Yambuku, Democratic
Republic of Congo. The latter occurred in a village near the Ebola River, from which the virus
received its name. Ebola Virus is a member of the negative stranded RNA viruses known as
filoviruses. There are currently, five different strains of the Ebola Virus including, Zaire (EBOV),
Sudan (SUDV), Bundibuguyo (BDBV), Taï Forest (TAFV) and Reston (RESTV). Each of the strains
of the virus are very closely related including Reston which only effects animals. Yet, Ebola Zaire is
the most highly virulent subtype, often leading to death. All of the different types of the virus are
extremely dangerous and often cause death if untreated.
Description:
Ebola is an acute, infectious, hemorrhagic viral fever. It is an enveloped, single stranded,
unsegmented, negative sense RNA virus. The genomes (complete set of genes) of the five different
Ebola viruses differ in sequence and the number and location of gene overlaps. Ebola virons are
filamentous particles that can appear in the shape of a shepherd s crook, a 6 , a U , coiled, toroid or
branched. The virons of the disease are roughly 80 nm (nanometers) in width and can be as long as
14,000 nm. Yet the average length of a viron is approximately 920 nm.

The Tunnel And What You Pawn I Will Redeem
The main characters in the stories Through the Tunnel and What You Pawn I Will Redeem both have
their mind set on determination. In the story Through the Tunnel, Jerry, the young English boy, sees a
group of boys diving and calls them men and wants to be like them. The tunnel they swim through is
the symbol in the story used to describe his transition to manhood. In What You Pawn I Will Redeem,
Jackson found his grandmother s stolen regalia that had one yellow bead sewed on it that represented a
flaw. The yellow bead is the symbol in this story representing Jackson as a flaw in life. He was
determined to get the regalia back to feel like he is part of his culture and to make them proud. Doris
Lessing, the author of Through the Tunnel, and Sherman Alexie, the author of What You Pawn I Will

The story Through the Tunnel is about a young boy named Jerry and his mother going on vacation to a

Societal Values vs. Moral Instincts Essay
On his many adventures, Huckleberry Finn encounters numerous situations in which his morality is
tested or needs to be implemented. Huck has moral dilemmas to a degree, but he figures out the
answer to his questions. He also figures out that sometimes, society has it all wrong, and that at times
you just have to follow your heart. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, Twain
reveals that what is honorable is to follow your natural moral instincts, not what society and
civilization say is moral. From the beginning of the book, it is shown that Huck is forced to conform
to what others think is best for him. Huckleberry was taken in by Widow Douglas because his dad

Society starts to become a place in which Huckleberry wants to spend less and less time interacting
with as he realizes the problems people create in the world. As Huck and Jim float farther down the
river, Huck s opinion of society becomes more defined in his own mind:
I hadn t had a bite to eat since yesterday, so Jim he got out some corn dodgers and buttermilk, and

after all. Other places do seem so cramped up and smothery, but a raft don t. You feel mighty free and
easy and comfortable on a raft. (119)
At this point in the book Huck is thoroughly sickened by society. Compared to the incidents onshore,
the raft represents a retreat from the outside world. Even the simple food Jim offers Huck is delicious
in this atmosphere of freedom. Huck and Jim do not have to answer to anyone on the raft, and it
represents a kind of utopian life for them. They try to maintain this peaceful separation from society
and its problems, but as the raft makes its way down the river, unpleasant influences from onshore
repeatedly invade the world of the raft. These influences can be connected to the people close to Huck,
where clashing pieces of advice from those close to him are given throughout his life. Huck is put in a

duration in the league, do these fights have negative consequences as well? Lately, there has been
great controversy over whether or not to continue to allow fighting in the league. The N.H.L. hasn t
declared any rule against fighting, but rather, has created a set of rules to outline the penalties and
define the responsibilities of fights (National Hockey League: Official Rules 2014 2015). What the
N.H.L. lacks, however, is a statement with evidence to support why they have chosen to allow
fighting. With the current uproar, the League should consider the unfortunate facts and reassess their
decision. The official rules, specifically rule 46, cover everything ... Show more content on

Still, should fighting in hockey be banned? Unfortunately, in order to bring a halt to many of the
issues that strike controversy today (e.g. concussions, depression, anxiety, morality) it seems that an
ultimatum against fighting in hockey is needed. Truly, these issues need to be taken into consideration;
they are too prevalent not to. While the N.H.L. has written extensive rules to keep fights in control
when they do occur, the League has yet to explain any benefits from facilitating the fighting at all. So
whether the league decides to allow fighting or not, the decision should be made and should be made
with caution and appropriate evaluation of evidence. Clearly, the evidence for banning fights is
pervasive; thus, if the League desired that fighting remain in

Antigone Tragedy Analysis
Antigone, a play that Sophocles wrote exhibits a tragedy. Several factors determine whether or not
Antigone could be put under the category of a tragedy. Greek tragedies consist of three elements: the
play includes a catastrophic and inevitable resolution; the protagonist, Antigone, causes all the
problems; and finally, the tragic hero must have a tragic flaw or hamartia that leads to the catastrophe.
To exemplify a Greek tragedy or drama, Antigone must correspond with the three principal
characteristics that define a Greek drama.
Antigone, comes to an end with a catastrophic and inevitable death of a young girl. Antigone
concluded that her decision to bury her brother, Polyneices, would ultimately result in her demise. If
not by her Uncle Creon s hand, then her own: She had made a noose of her fine linen veil and hanged
herself (Sophocles 5.959 960). Her demise, resulted from her irascible uncle who made a law
preventing the burial of Polyneices, whom he saw as an ignominy. Ultimately fate will always win
against free will, and similar to what Antigone said, ... now you can prove what you are: A true sister,
or a traitor to your family (Sophocles Prologue.26 27). Her choice remained set in stone, and
determined to bury Polyneices, she still not only accepts death but also faces it with honor.
In Antigone, Antigone s behavior turns out to be the sole cause of all the problems within the play.
Usually, the protagonist s choices lead to the crux of the tragedy. In Antigone, the main character,
Antigone, portrays the role of the protagonist. Antigone s determination to commit heresy initiated all
the chaos within the play. Often, the crux of the tragedy affects the protagonist and innocent
bystanders. The first being Antigone s lover, Haimon, who was the son of Creon and Eurydice, Creon
s wife. Due to Antigone taking her own life, Haimon ends up taking his life as well. This action,
allegedly, being done out of sadness for his lover, Haimon lay beside hers, his arms about her waist,
lamenting her, his love lost under ground, crying out that his father has stolen her away from him
(Sophocles 5.960 963). The second being Haimon s mother, Eurydice, who likewise killed herself, but
this time, out of sadness for

The Following Includes Course Language, Viewer Discretion...
WARNING: The following includes course language, viewer discretion is advised
Everyday from the moment we wake up, we live our lives caring what other people think of us.
We accept the status quo for what it is because everyone around us does.
We tip toe our way through life by doing things in order to please others, not because it s what we
believe in. Eventually our actions, appearances, and lives become molded by how we think other
people perceive us.
Wow I can t wear this dress people are going to think I m fat. I can t talk to so and so because
everyone would get mad at me. If I did this what would my friends think of me, what would they say?
Ahhh just saying those sentences gives me a headache. It is hard enough taking care of yourself let
alone trying to impress every other person in this world. Having to live up to society and other peoples
ideals of how you should be or how you should do things, its dreadful.
Now, while not giving a fuck may seem simple on the surface, its a whole new can of beans in real
life. What I m trying to say is that we are all going to struggle with these things on a day to day basis,
we can t just read something like this and tell ourselves, TODAY is the day I will stop giving a fuck

situations where the fucks do not deserve to be given. We give a fuck about that cute boy from the bar

The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence
In her novel The Stone Angel, Margaret Laurence uses the stone angel monument to embody the
qualities of Hagar . Over the course of the novel, Hagar reflects back on the memories that have made
up her life. Hagar s loneliness and depression are self induced and brought on by her pride, lack of
emotion, stubbornness and the ignorance which she has towards anyone s opinion but her own. The
qualities of Hagar are identical with those possessed by the stone angel monument and paralleled by
Laurence many times throughout the novel. The angel was certainly not a suitable statue to mark the
death of Mrs. Currie as it was uncharacteristic of her. The statue of the angel is a more fitting
representation of Hagar s father Jason Currie and hence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When her son John dies she does not weep, almost as if she was made of stone. The night my son died
I was transformed to stone and never wept at all. (Laurence 243) Hagar believed if she cried it would
damage her pride and make her appear weak. She would simply not have people think that. I wouldn t
cry in front of strangers, whatever it cost me. (Laurence 242) Hagar makes love to Bram and never
lets him know that she enjoyed it. He never knew. I never let him know. I never spoke aloud, and I
made certain the trembling was all inner. (Laurence 81) She could never allow others to know how she
felt. Hagar remained emotionless throughout her life. When Bram dies Hagar does not even dare to
shed a tear. But when we d bury Bram and come home again and lighted lamps for the evening, it was
John who cried, not I. (Laurence 184) In many ways Hagar s passionless life was identical to that of
the Angel; it never shed a tear, rarely did she. Her inability to express emotion led to her relentless
ignorance of others and their opinions.
Hagar Shipley is a very stubborn woman at the age of ninety. She is very set in her ways, and does not
appreciate being told what to do. The most prominent sign of this stubbornness is when Hagar is

Autonomy in Medicine
Autonomy in Medicine
Finneaus Parker
National University
February 8, 2013
Dr. Schlitz
Autonomy is the personal rule of the self that is free from both controlling interferences by others and
from personal limitations that prevent meaningful choice (Pantilat, 2008). Autonomous individuals act
intentionally, with understanding, and without controlling influences. Respect for autonomy is one of
the fundamental guidelines of clinical ethics. Autonomy in medicine is not simply allowing patients to
make their own decisions. Physicians have an obligation to create the conditions necessary for
autonomous choice in others. For a physician, respect for autonomy includes respecting an individual
s right to self determination as well as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For the majority of their lives patients seek treatment from a family physician that has a general
knowledge of their health status, behaviors, and family background. However, once patients reach the
age where multiple ailments require the consultation of several specialists, care can become
fragmented. The primary physician, who presumably knows the patient best, begins to play a smaller
role in deciding treatments and consulting the patient s family on advance directives. This
fragmentation and discontinuity of care is pervasive once the patient reaches the end of life, and thus
helps explain why treatment decisions at the end of life often differ from the wishes of the family and
even the patient.
The relationship between a physician and his or her patient is inherently driven by outcomes. By
default, a physician is trained to cure or mitigate the effects of the patient s illness until natural death.
However, the instinctive behavior of physicians at the end of life can result in more harm by
encouraging advanced treatments that reduce the quality of life in a patient s remaining days.
Evidence has demonstrated that this leads to greater dissatisfaction among patients and their families,
and it results in unnecessarily high instances of death in hospital

Criminal and Civil Law in the English Legal System Essay
One of the main differences between criminal cases and civil cases is that they are held in different
courts, this is because there is a significant distinction between a civil wrong and a criminal wrong.
Crimes are considered to be a type of wrongdoing, however civil wrongs tend to have only an impact
on the parties involved in the case. For example: a breach of contract. Where as criminal wrongs tend
to have an impact on society itself. For example: a murder, theft or rape.
Criminal law is dealt with in the Magistrates court and if very serious in the Crown court. It is said to
be more difficult to win a case in the Magistrates court and Crown court than in a civil court as in a

Magistrates also determine, subject to appeal, whether the defendant should be kept in custody
pending trial. Magistrates can impose conditions to meet their concerns about granting bail. Courts
have limited information on which to base bail decisions, with the exception of experimental bail
information schemes involving the probation service. Normally prosecutors and sometimes defence
lawyers make representations as to whether bail should be granted or not. There is a high degree of
correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. One problem the society
has with magistrates is that sections of the community are underrepresented in the lay magistracy. The
lay magistracy remains predominately white, middle aged, middle class and conservative.
The other court of trial for a criminal case is the Crown Court. Indictable offences like murder can
only be dealt with in this court and also triable offences for example, all theft cases. An accused has
the absolute right of trial in the Crown Court but if he/she elects summary trial the magistrates may
decline to hear the case. Even if they do they may commit a convicted person to the Crown Court for
sentence if they believe their own sentencing proves to be inadequate. Three types of judges sit in the
court High Court Judges, circuit judges and recorders. The latter are part time and hear the less serious

If you have an electric starter (congratulations) the starter button will usually be on the floor by your

starter button. As soon as the engine fires, let go of the Choke and take your heel off the starter button.
Reach up with your right hand and pull the Throttle arm down about ½ way and at the same time with

lower corner of the radiator) while with your right hand, crank the engine a couple of quarter turns.
You ll have to push the crank in (toward the motor) as you turn the crank and you will feel it lock into

engine kicks back. If the engine doesn t catch the first time turn the crank backward

starts. If after several attempts the engine doesn t start. Go back and turn the key off and repeat the

Essay On Voter Turnout In America
America truly is in trouble. The voter turnout should be, in my opinion, atleast 75% of the total
eligible population. I do NOT feel however that lowering the voting age will be the answer to this
problem. As it may help the overall volume of voters, I feel it will diminish the percentages of voter
participation. A more likely cure: put America back into our young Americans! When I was a child we
were all much more patriotic than the kids of present America. We sang songs of patronage in music
class, we spoke the Pledge of Alegience, and the Fourth of July was about independence. My children
know very few songs of our political history. I believe I know where it all began. I sing a song to my

much more important now than I had imagined. I would now begin to correct the problem for them.
Our short comings in our children started with the seperation of church and state. I m not using any
statistics to write this, for I feel that it s all about the level of patronage our younger generations
excercise. Seperation of church and state was about religious freedom, which we protect in this
country. It did more than that (unbeknownst to us at the time). In passing this to protect civil liberties,
we made way for other, more important liberties, to fall by the way. The Pledge of Alligience that we
all rose for every single morning in school, the same pledge we all took for granted, was soon to be
forgotten. When this year s election chaos started, one of them came to me and asked what is this Dad
? I told him it was how we choose a president for the next four years. He had no further questions at
the time, but soon had more and more. I realized that I had never considered teaching them about this
at such a young age, but I pondered how crucial it must be. It must also be reincorperated in our

How Does Richard s Quest To Become King

Richard to take the steps he does, the murdering innocent people cannot be justified. The most vicious
of these killings is the murder of the two princes the children of king Edward. Shakespeare gives the

The U.S. Constitution establishes the Supreme Court, which is authorized by it to hear original and
appellate cases. Original cases are heard only by and are sent directly to the Supreme Court. Appellate
cases are those cases which were heard by a lower court, decided on by the lower court, but an appeal

dissenting opinion is made is so Congress can rethink the state of current law and modify it to benefit
future litigants of the same reasons. Ginsburg wrote such a dissent in 2007. The issue at hand was the
time frame within which a woman had to bring a suit for pay discrimination based on gender. The law
was written quite narrowly, stating that an individual had to bring suit within 180 days of the
discrimination occurring. However, after the decision was handed down, Congress took up the

Great Gatsby Scarlet Letter Essay

March 22, 2000
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald are two
novels, which address similar themes with completely opposite resolves. The authors use their main
characters, Hester, Dimmesdale, Gatsby, and Daisy, in their respective works to present these themes.
The action in both novels revolves around unfaithfulness, its effects on the characters, and the results
of committing adultery, which prove to be antipode from one novel to the other. These antitheses can
be found by a look at the different roles of adultery in the novels. One major theme found in both
novels and addressed in different ways is adultery. Unfaithfulness is ever present in The Great ... Show

Hester and Dimmesdale sinned by having sex, Hester was married and Dimmesdale was a reverend.
This act of impurity was turned to a positive with the birth of Pearl, their personal spiritual growth,
and their maturity. On the contrary, the love that Daisy and Gatsby had before their separation was
pure. They were in love for all the right reasons, and stayed in touch while Jay entered the army.
However, Daisy then fell in love with money and the man who brought it, Tom. When Gatsby
returned, he tried to make their love work again, but his efforts were made through deceit, and illegal
activities. These attempts to win Daisy through a false persona and money made Daisy s love a
possession, which could be won or even bought, and subsequently it became impure. These
contradictions and paradox continue through the novel into the endings.
The differing attitudes towards unfaithfulness in the novels result in differing conclusions for the
characters. Although Hester and Dimmesdale do not consummate their relationship, their tribulations
are not for naught. Both become better, more understanding, people because of their experiences.
There is also the birth of Pearl to validate their affair. Daisy and Gatsby never end up together either.
However, neither one is the better as a result of them having eloped. Gatsby dies a horrible death, but

Socrates Vs Socrates
Socrates and Aristotle would think that philosophy was for the greater good and expanding the minds
of those around them. Socrates in particular would regard philosophy as conversational and weeding
out those who know and those who do not. Aristotle would use philosophy to try to reach the
conclusion on what happiness is. These great thinkers believed absolute contemplation was the
greatest pleasure human beings could reach, so for them philosophy was reaching a type of Nirvana.
Take the Apology as an example of what Socrates thought about philosophy. When charged with
atheism and corrupting the youth he defends himself by claiming he is an ignorant man. Socrates is on

Sadly, we know of Socrates fate and with him trying to change Athens for the better it backfires on
him. But, Socrates leaves those who attended his trial his with some final words that speak to who he
is and how he felt about what he was doing regarding his philosophy. If, I say, now, when, as I
conceive and imagine, God orders me to fulfil the philosopher s mission of searching into myself and
other men, I were to desert my post through fear of death, or any other fear; that would indeed be
strange, and I might justly be arraigned in court for denying the existence of the gods, if I disobeyed
the oracle because I was afraid of death: then I should be fancying that I was wise when I was not
wise. For this fear of death is indeed the pretence of wisdom, and not real wisdom, being the
appearance of knowing the unknown; since no one knows whether death, which they in their fear
apprehend to be the greatest evil, may not be the greatest good (Apology, Plato). As I stated in my
introduction Socrates and Aristotle believed that contemplative thought was the highest form of
human life. That this concept of thinking and attempting to answer life s hardest questions was the
best thing to occur to any human being. When looking at their point of view of what is the highest
kind of pleasure a human can achieve it begs the question if that is

I chose electrical engineering for several reasons. One, I like to investigate stuff and figure out how it

  • 2. Events from the 1960s The 1960s is a decade filled with a series of remarkable and significant events that still resonate today. From the charismatic John F. Kennedy winning the nation s highest office to Vietnam War, the 1960s was a decade of transformational changes (Whithaus, 2004). Adding to this transformation were a host of technological breakthroughs. For the first time in American history a presidential political debate, between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, was aired on TV. In 1963 Lee Harvey Oswald was murdered by Jack Ruby on camera. Furthermore, in 1965 the first instant replay added a new dimension to sports coverage. In 1967, all three major network shows were broadcasted in color. Finally, in 1969, television televises men on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, computers are found everywhere and people rely upon them for travel directions, entertainment, purchasing products, and social interactions. I became interested in computers during the early 1990s and it happened right in my house. Within my community no one really knew what a programmer was or how to become one. At first, programmers were the engineers the circuits and processors. In April 1990, I volunteered to help my brother, a Computer Information Systems major at UTPA, to program the IBM 1401. I was 13 years old, had graduated from high school five years later, and decided to study the field of computers, specifically information technology (IT). In today s high tech world, virtually every business needs computer networking professionals to set up and maintain an in office network (Irvine, 2011). This includes a variety of tasks such as engineering the network infrastructure, administering Windows systems and maintaining an email system (Irvine, 2011). These jobs were made possible because of the development of computers. Computers provides me with a variety of career paths, stability, and more importantly higher pay. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in computer networking is expected to outpace the average for all occupations, adding 286,600 new jobs within the decade of 2008 to 2018 (Irvine, 2011). See the main Seattle page here. Mt. Rainier is an active volcano that is always topped with snow. It has 26 main glaciers the most on any mountain in the lower 48 US states. It is more than 14 thousand feet high and spawns 6 major rivers and many waterfalls. Interesting Facts: On clear days Mt Rainier can be seen as far away as Corvallis, British Columbia and Oregon. The park is popular for hiking, climbing and winter sports. Most visitors go for a day trip, but some like to stay at the campgrounds and Inns. On a recent tour with Customized Tours , we spent a day exploring this beautiful park and majestic mountain. We started from Seattle and headed south towards the Nisqually entrance. Along the way, we stopped at Puyallup to stretch our legs and buy some supplies. The town has a large Fred Myers grocery store with everything you can think off including a Starbucks. It was good stop for breakfast. • 5. Operations Of Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab Operations of Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab I. Overview History Joe s Stone Crab was founded in Miami Beach in 1913. Joe Weiss and his wife, Jennie, moved to Florida from the north in order to relieve his asthma. At this time, stone crabs were not viewed as edible. There was a large number of them so an ichthyologist came to Weiss stating that they were safe for human consumption. Weiss experimented with cooking the crab and discovered they were a delicacy when served chilled with his special mustard sauce. By 1918, Joe and Jennie opened their permanent restaurant in Miami Beach on Washington Ave that is still open to this day. Meanwhile, in 1970 s Chicago, Richard Melman worked with a couple different partners and investors to build a network of restaurants in the Chicagoland area called Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, or commonly LEYE . By the mid 1980s, his network of restaurants employed about 2,000 people in the Chicago area and annual revenues stood at about $40 million (Wilson). In 1999, Melman teamed up with the second generation of Weisses to partner to create a location in Chicago, called Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab (a slightly different name to differentiate from the original). In 2005, LEYE partnered with the Weisses to open Joe s Seafood, Prime Steak, Stone Crab in Las Vegas and again in 2014 to open the third in Washington, D.C. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During World War II, the U.S. and Mexico reached an agreement in which a massive number of Mexicans would be transported to America as temporary workers in agriculture because of the anticipated worker shortage created by the war. (6) Of all the labor used in production throughout the first half of the century, 75 percent is believed to be Mexican. (7) It is obvious then that since the beginning of the century, the United States has been a source of employment for Mexicans out of work and it is this attitude which has created the incentive for Mexican migration during the latter half of the century. Anti immigrant sentiments felt in America have much to do with this attitude. The fact is that most Mexicans immigrate to this country in search of employment and of a better life for their children, as do most other immigrants into the U.S . This is seen as an economic threat by many Americans because of the large number of Mexicans residing in the United States: 62 percent of the entire Hispanic population of America as of 1988.(8) California, which is home to the largest Mexican population in the U.S., has vigorously expresses its discontent with the current status of immigration. Pete Wilson, governor of California and an anti immigrant proponent, claims that the large numbers of immigrants settling in California are reeking havoc on its economy. • 10. Descriptive Essay About The Mountains When the sun slowly peeps over the range of mountains, birds shake the morning dew off their feathers and give a cheerful song that would lift even the most sorrowful of spirits. A light fog wraps around the mountain range, reaching to touch every bit of life thriving there. The slight chill in the air is enough to give a gentle shiver, but not enough for the need of a jacket. A breeze tickles the trees, making their leaves shake and sway with laughter. Sunlight seeps in past the thick canopy of branches with hopes of being able to reach the damp mountain earth. The mountains are the best place to live to be relaxed, see the most beauty, and never get bored. There is a relaxing feel of the mountains making it perfect for letting the stress disappear and peace to find its way to one s soul. There are many people who love the mountains and live in them, but there is so much space that they hardly ever see each other. Less people means that there is less judgement by them, which means there is more freedom to be the person wanted to be without worry about that pesky inner critic. For someone who is not very social and has anxiety whenever I have to talk to another human, the mountains are the perfect place to get away from all of that and be the most relaxed. They were wrong. (Textbook WWI) In 1914, European leaders thought a balance of powers would be a good chance for the European countries, so no one country could overpower another. Germany was not ok with that change, and formed a alliance with Italy and Austria Hungry, this alliance was called the Triple Alliance. In response, Russia, Great Britain, and France formed what was called the Triple Entente. A Serbian group called the Black Hand also was important during this time. They assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, and soon after the war started. In 1914, imperialism is one of the main underlying causes of WWI because of the Triple Alliance/ Triple Entente, strengthening military forces, and the population of the countries. In 1914, imperialism was a main underlying cause of WWI because of the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. The tension between countries was matched by tension within countries. • 12. New Swipe Card System At London Heathrow Airport As described by Palmer, Dunlap Akin, at the start of the peak holiday season, British Airways (BA) employees at London Heathrow airport participated in a 24 hour wildcat strike due to the implementation of a timeswipe card system that would monitor the employees clocked in and out hours. To the executives, this change represented an improvement in technology that would increase organizational efficiency. To the staff, however, this change represented something entirely different; distrust and disrespect.BA executives had a history of ensuring that the organization was taken care of at the expense of its employees. Jobs were cut, agreements were broken, and this new swipe card system was just another example of the executives finding a way to monitor and control the staff to the organization s economic gain. The staff feared that management would monitor their hours and send them home during off hours and then call them back to duty at peak hours. In addition, the way in which the change was communicated to the staff was what propelled the staff to revolt. The executives sprung the change initiative on the staff with little warning and provided inconsistent reasons for the necessity of the change. This made it nearly impossible for the staff to accept or adjust to the change in a positive way. The strike resulted in enormous losses to BA in terms of customers, employee morale, and overall company reputation. Executives at BA did take a step back and reflect on their ... I yelled to Blaine and Roger to look, but as soon as they gandered over the shadowy figure had disappeared within the densely wooded area. I must have been imagining things, I thought to myself. On our way back to the campsite, we noticed something amiss. Adjacent to our campsite, a massive fire was roaring. The thick gray smoke from the fire was billowing into the sky, hovering over a good portion of the lower lake. The smoke danced as the wind pushed it around. The N.H.L. hasn t declared any rule against fighting, but rather, has created a set of rules to outline the penalties and define the responsibilities of fights (National Hockey League: Official Rules 2014 2015). • 22. Antigone Tragedy Analysis Antigone, a play that Sophocles wrote exhibits a tragedy. Several factors determine whether or not Antigone could be put under the category of a tragedy. Greek tragedies consist of three elements: the play includes a catastrophic and inevitable resolution; the protagonist, Antigone, causes all the problems; and finally, the tragic hero must have a tragic flaw or hamartia that leads to the catastrophe. To exemplify a Greek tragedy or drama, Antigone must correspond with the three principal characteristics that define a Greek drama. Antigone, comes to an end with a catastrophic and inevitable death of a young girl. Antigone concluded that her decision to bury her brother, Polyneices, would ultimately result in her demise. If not by her Uncle Creon s hand, then her own: She had made a noose of her fine linen veil and hanged herself (Sophocles 5.959 960). Her demise, resulted from her irascible uncle who made a law preventing the burial of Polyneices, whom he saw as an ignominy. Ultimately fate will always win against free will, and similar to what Antigone said, ... now you can prove what you are: A true sister, or a traitor to your family (Sophocles Prologue.26 27). Her choice remained set in stone, and determined to bury Polyneices, she still not only accepts death but also faces it with honor. In Antigone, Antigone s behavior turns out to be the sole cause of all the problems within the play. Usually, the protagonist s choices lead to the crux of the tragedy. In Antigone, the main character, Antigone, portrays the role of the protagonist. Antigone s determination to commit heresy initiated all the chaos within the play. Often, the crux of the tragedy affects the protagonist and innocent bystanders. The first being Antigone s lover, Haimon, who was the son of Creon and Eurydice, Creon s wife. For the majority of their lives patients seek treatment from a family physician that has a general knowledge of their health status, behaviors, and family background. However, once patients reach the age where multiple ailments require the consultation of several specialists, care can become fragmented. The primary physician, who presumably knows the patient best, begins to play a smaller role in deciding treatments and consulting the patient s family on advance directives. This fragmentation and discontinuity of care is pervasive once the patient reaches the end of life, and thus helps explain why treatment decisions at the end of life often differ from the wishes of the family and even the patient. The relationship between a physician and his or her patient is inherently driven by outcomes. By default, a physician is trained to cure or mitigate the effects of the patient s illness until natural death. However, the instinctive behavior of physicians at the end of life can result in more harm by encouraging advanced treatments that reduce the quality of life in a patient s remaining days. Evidence has demonstrated that this leads to greater dissatisfaction among patients and their families, and it results in unnecessarily high instances of death in hospital ... There is a high degree of correlation between prosecutors representations and magistrates decisions. The action in both novels revolves around unfaithfulness, its effects on the characters, and the results of committing adultery, which prove to be antipode from one novel to the other. These antitheses can be found by a look at the different roles of adultery in the novels. One major theme found in both novels and addressed in different ways is adultery. Unfaithfulness is ever present in The Great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hester and Dimmesdale sinned by having sex, Hester was married and Dimmesdale was a reverend. This act of impurity was turned to a positive with the birth of Pearl, their personal spiritual growth, and their maturity. On the contrary, the love that Daisy and Gatsby had before their separation was pure. They were in love for all the right reasons, and stayed in touch while Jay entered the army. However, Daisy then fell in love with money and the man who brought it, Tom. When Gatsby returned, he tried to make their love work again, but his efforts were made through deceit, and illegal activities. These attempts to win Daisy through a false persona and money made Daisy s love a possession, which could be won or even bought, and subsequently it became impure. These contradictions and paradox continue through the novel into the endings. The differing attitudes towards unfaithfulness in the novels result in differing conclusions for the characters. Although Hester and Dimmesdale do not consummate their relationship, their tribulations are not for naught. Both become better, more understanding, people because of their experiences. There is also the birth of Pearl to validate their affair. Daisy and Gatsby never end up together either. However, neither one is the better as a result of them having eloped. • 35. Socrates Vs Socrates Socrates and Aristotle would think that philosophy was for the greater good and expanding the minds of those around them. Socrates in particular would regard philosophy as conversational and weeding out those who know and those who do not. Aristotle would use philosophy to try to reach the conclusion on what happiness is. These great thinkers believed absolute contemplation was the greatest pleasure human beings could reach, so for them philosophy was reaching a type of Nirvana. Take the Apology as an example of what Socrates thought about philosophy. When charged with atheism and corrupting the youth he defends himself by claiming he is an ignorant man. Socrates is on a search for the wisest man after being told by an oracle that it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sadly, we know of Socrates fate and with him trying to change Athens for the better it backfires on him. But, Socrates leaves those who attended his trial his with some final words that speak to who he is and how he felt about what he was doing regarding his philosophy. If, I say, now, when, as I conceive and imagine, God orders me to fulfil the philosopher s mission of searching into myself and other men, I were to desert my post through fear of death, or any other fear; that would indeed be strange, and I might justly be arraigned in court for denying the existence of the gods, if I disobeyed the oracle because I was afraid of death: then I should be fancying that I was wise when I was not wise. For this fear of death is indeed the pretence of wisdom, and not real wisdom, being the appearance of knowing the unknown; since no one knows whether death, which they in their fear apprehend to be the greatest evil, may not be the greatest good (Apology, Plato). As I stated in my introduction Socrates and Aristotle believed that contemplative thought was the highest form of human life. That this concept of thinking and attempting to answer life s hardest questions was the best thing to occur to any human being. When looking at their point of view of what is the highest kind of pleasure a human can achieve it begs the question if that is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The design, construction and manufacturing of useful devices and systems began with the implementation of Michael Faraday s Law, one of the fundamental laws in electrical engineering, that states that the voltage in a circuit is proportional to the rate of change in the magnetic field through the circuit (www.livescience.com What is Electrical Engineering? by Jim Lucas) I chose electrical engineering for several reasons. One, I like to investigate stuff and figure out how it all works, and I have always had an interest in computers which function on electricity. I also love subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Algebra, and Trigonometry. I began considering engineering last year when I took an elective, Intro to Engineering, it was comprised of hands on projects that I worked on and tried to make work. I loved the hands on approach it was fun and I learned a ton of useful skills and information. As for picking the electrical part, that was as simple. Ever since I was little I have loved computers I used them mostly for video games, but I was always curious as to their inner workings. I have had the enlightening experience of building my own personal computer from scratch.
