Business strategy are business schools doing more harm through appealing pi...Subramanian Kooveli Madom
The article examines the pigeon holed approach to teaching business strategy adopted in business schools. The writer believes strategies are unique to individuals (leaders) and cannot be reduced to a mechanical output from a technique oriented view. Real strategies are best kept under wraps and what is revealed is the essentials needed for its operationalisation. A technique oriented approach tends to send out misplaced signals to the budding managers
“Plan is typically any diagram or list of steps with timing and resources, used to achieve an objective” The term planning implies the working out of sub-components in some degree of elaborate detail. Broader-brush enunciations of objectives may qualify as metaphorical roadmaps. Planning literally just means the creation of a plan; it can be as simple as making a list. It has acquired a technical meaning, however, to cover the area of government legislation and regulations related to the use of resources.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Mintzberg's 5P's of Strategy
1.
2.
3. The word "strategy" has been used implicitly in different ways
even if it has traditionally been defined in only one.
Explicit recognition of multiple definitions can help people to
manoeuvre through this difficult field.
Mintzberg provides five definitions of strategy:
Plan
Ploy
Pattern
Position
Perspective
4.
5. Plan
Strategy is a plan - some sort of consciously intended course of
action, a guideline (or set of guidelines) to deal with a situation.
By this definition strategies have two essential characteristics:
they are made in advance of the actions to which they apply, and
they are developed consciously and purposefully.
Ploy
As plan, a strategy can be a ploy too, really just a specific
manoeuvre intended to outwit an opponent or competitor.
6. Pattern
If strategies can be intended (whether as general plans or specific
ploys), they can also be realised. In other words, defining strategy as
plan is not sufficient; we also need a definition that encompasses the
resulting behaviour: Strategy is a pattern - specifically, a pattern in a
stream of actions. Strategy is consistency in behaviour, whether or
not intended. The definitions of strategy as plan and pattern can be
quite independent of one another: plans may go unrealised, while
patterns may appear without preconception.
Plans are intended strategy, whereas patterns are realised strategy;
from this we can distinguish deliberate strategies, where intentions
that existed previously were realised, and emergent strategies where
patterns developed in the absence of intentions, or despite them.
7. Position
Strategy is a position - specifically a means of locating an
organisation in an "environment". By this definition strategy
becomes the mediating force, or "match", between organisation and
environment, that is, between the internal and the external context.
Perspective
Strategy is a perspective - its content consisting not just of a
chosen position, but of an ingrained way of perceiving the world.
Strategy in this respect is to the organisation what personality is to
the individual. What is of key importance is that strategy is a
perspective shared by members of an organisation, through their
intentions and / or by their actions. In effect, when we talk of
strategy in this context, we are entering the realm of the collective
mind - individuals united by common thinking and / or behaviour.
