INTRODUCTION
The demand of multi-resonating planar patch antenna is
continuously increasing to cater the wireless communication
requirements.
The patch antennas are well known for their compactness, flexible
planar configuration, high frequency handling capability, low cost
and ease of integration with monolithic microwave devices and
integrated circuits.
To make the wireless communication system efficient, numbers of
researchers and technocrats are working continuously to improve the
performance of the patch antenna by integrating the various
communication standards into the single structure.
WHAT IS MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA ?
 Microstrip is a type of electrical transmission line which can be
fabricated using printed circuit board technology, and is used to
convey microwave-frequency signals.
 It consists of a conducting strip separated from a ground plane by
a dielectric layer known as the substrate. Microwave components
such as antennas, couplers, filters, power dividers etc. can be
formed from microstrip, with the entire device existing as the
pattern of metallization on the substrate.
 A microstrip patch antenna is fabricated by etching the antenna
element pattern in metal trace bonded to an insulating dielectric
substrate, such as a printed circuit board, with a continuous metal
layer bonded to the opposite side of the substrate which forms a
ground plane. Common microstrip antenna shapes are square,
rectangular, circular and elliptical, but any continuous shape is
possible

ULTRA WIDE BAND TECHNOLOGY
 Ultra wideband (UWB) technology was approved by Federal
Communication Commission (FCC) in February 2002.
 According to FCC regulations, the frequency band from 3.1
GHz to 10.6 GHz can be used for short range and high speed
wireless communication systems.
 To satisfy such high frequency requirements, various types of
planar antennas have been developed for UWB
communication over the last few years. Also several
bandwidth enhancement scheme is reported to fulfill the
bandwidth requirement of these antennas.
LITERARY SURVEY
Some of the techniques to obtain UWB antennas are reported
by various research scholars such as,
1. The concepts of fractals can be applied to the design of low-
profile and ultra wideband antennas. In this article, a super
wideband antenna by applying a new fractal geometry to a
wire monopole antenna is presented. The results show that the
proposed antenna can be used for frequency range 10–40 GHz,
i.e.UWB antenna with 30 GHz bandwidth [1].
2. A microstrip fed ultra wideband antenna with dual band‑
rejection characteristics is investigated. The antenna has the
same shape between radiation patch and ground plane, and is
fabricated on a Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate .To generate
two notched frequency bands, a Unshaped parasitic element on
the back of the patch is utilized. The two notched bands can be
controlled by adjusting the size of the parasitic element [2].
3. The design of ultra wide band (UWB) square shape fractal
antenna with matching strip. The impedance matching of this
proposed antenna is achieved using the metal strip in ground plane
at angle 60 from the centre of the patch. The experimental results
of this antenna exhibit the ultra wide band characteristics from
2.355 GHz to 15.0 GHz. This antenna can be useful for
transmission of high data rate wireless communications, medical
imaging and other UWB applications [3].
4. A novel planar monopole antenna for various wireless
communication applications is presented. The base of the proposed
antenna is an ellipse-shaped patch that covers the ultra wideband
(UWB) frequency range [4].
OBJECTIVE
• Modelling, simulation and analysis of a compact size ultra
wideband microstrip patch antenna with improved antenna
characteristics such as high gain and uniform radiation pattern
for through out the frequency range.
SOFTWARE USED
• Ansys High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS).
• It is one of several commercial tools used for antenna design,
and the design of complex RF electronic circuit elements
including filters, transmission lines, and packaging.
• ANSYS HFSS software is the industry standard for simulating
3-D, full-wave, electromagnetic fields. Its standard accuracy,
advanced solvers and high-performance computing
technologies make it an essential tool for engineers tasked
with executing accurate and rapid design in high-frequency
and high-speed electronic devices and platforms.

INTRODUCTION The demand of multi-resonating planar patch antenna is continuously increasing to cater the wireless communication requirements. The patch antennas are well known for their compactness, flexible planar configuration, high frequency handling capability, low cost and ease of integration with monolithic microwave devices and integrated circuits. To make the wireless communication system efficient, numbers of researchers and technocrats are working continuously to improve the performance of the patch antenna by integrating the various communication standards into the single structure.
  • 4. WHAT IS MICROSTRIP PATCH ANTENNA ?  Microstrip is a type of electrical transmission line which can be fabricated using printed circuit board technology, and is used to convey microwave-frequency signals.  It consists of a conducting strip separated from a ground plane by a dielectric layer known as the substrate. Microwave components such as antennas, couplers, filters, power dividers etc. can be formed from microstrip, with the entire device existing as the pattern of metallization on the substrate.  A microstrip patch antenna is fabricated by etching the antenna element pattern in metal trace bonded to an insulating dielectric substrate, such as a printed circuit board, with a continuous metal layer bonded to the opposite side of the substrate which forms a ground plane. Common microstrip antenna shapes are square, rectangular, circular and elliptical, but any continuous shape is possible

  • 7. ULTRA WIDE BAND TECHNOLOGY  Ultra wideband (UWB) technology was approved by Federal Communication Commission (FCC) in February 2002.  According to FCC regulations, the frequency band from 3.1 GHz to 10.6 GHz can be used for short range and high speed wireless communication systems.  To satisfy such high frequency requirements, various types of planar antennas have been developed for UWB communication over the last few years. Also several bandwidth enhancement scheme is reported to fulfill the bandwidth requirement of these antennas.
  • 8. LITERARY SURVEY Some of the techniques to obtain UWB antennas are reported by various research scholars such as, 1. The concepts of fractals can be applied to the design of low- profile and ultra wideband antennas. In this article, a super wideband antenna by applying a new fractal geometry to a wire monopole antenna is presented. The results show that the proposed antenna can be used for frequency range 10–40 GHz, i.e.UWB antenna with 30 GHz bandwidth [1]. 2. A microstrip fed ultra wideband antenna with dual band‑ rejection characteristics is investigated. The antenna has the same shape between radiation patch and ground plane, and is fabricated on a Rogers RT/duroid 5880 substrate .To generate two notched frequency bands, a Unshaped parasitic element on the back of the patch is utilized. The two notched bands can be controlled by adjusting the size of the parasitic element [2].
  • 9. 3. The design of ultra wide band (UWB) square shape fractal antenna with matching strip. The impedance matching of this proposed antenna is achieved using the metal strip in ground plane at angle 60 from the centre of the patch. The experimental results of this antenna exhibit the ultra wide band characteristics from 2.355 GHz to 15.0 GHz. This antenna can be useful for transmission of high data rate wireless communications, medical imaging and other UWB applications [3]. 4. A novel planar monopole antenna for various wireless communication applications is presented. The base of the proposed antenna is an ellipse-shaped patch that covers the ultra wideband (UWB) frequency range [4].
  • 10. OBJECTIVE • Modelling, simulation and analysis of a compact size ultra wideband microstrip patch antenna with improved antenna characteristics such as high gain and uniform radiation pattern for through out the frequency range.
  • 11. SOFTWARE USED • Ansys High Frequency Structural Simulator (HFSS). • It is one of several commercial tools used for antenna design, and the design of complex RF electronic circuit elements including filters, transmission lines, and packaging. • ANSYS HFSS software is the industry standard for simulating 3-D, full-wave, electromagnetic fields. Its standard accuracy, advanced solvers and high-performance computing technologies make it an essential tool for engineers tasked with executing accurate and rapid design in high-frequency and high-speed electronic devices and platforms.
