2. The Changing Faces Of Violence
The Changing Faces of Violence
Towan Cook
Georgia Gwinnett College
In essence, violence is the act of causing some degree of harm to your own body,
property, or another form of life. Like many words in the English language, there is
several definitions for one word. Likewise, violence has several definitions that
depend on the perspective in which the word violence is being viewed. When
looking at every aspect of violence, there are many events that at first would not be
considered violent, but in actuality are very violence for instance, sports. Everyday
somewhere around the world, men and women are paid to fight each other until a
knock out or decision is ruled. Violence also is seen on news stations, video games, ...

One reason why there are so many definitions for violence is because there are so
many ways to harm people. According to Violence: The Enduring Problem violence
also consist of protecting yourself from harm such as, using a firearm to defend your
family from an attack (Alvarez, 2007). Likewise, harm can be transferred to another
through physical contact, voice, and other physical actions. In the United States the
definition of violence has changed drastically over time. For example, it was not
long ago that in the state of Georgia a woman could have been raped by her
husband. When challenged in court, the Supreme Court of Georgia held that if a
women agrees to get married to a man then she thereby, agrees to always give
consent to intercourse (Warren v. State, 1985). Therefore in the state of Georgia
during this time, women could be raped by her husband. According to the law
neither crime nor violent act has been committed; however, the woman who was
raped probably would say otherwise, stating that she was forced to have sexual
intercourse against her will, which would constitute as being a violent act. Another
type of violence that has been shown to have very negative results on ones psyche
is verbal abuse (Gadit, 2011). The article titled, Verbal Abuse: Does it lead to Mental
Disorder? illustrates that children who are repeatedly exposed to verbal abuse often
grow up with insecurities, low

Compare and contrast the Five kingdom and three domain classification system
Classification is the method used by scientists to order living organisms. All
species have a unique classification that results in a binomial name. classification is
used to make it easier for different species to be identified by scientists. The current
system, the Three Domain System , groups organisms primarily based on
differences in ribosomal RNA structure. Ribosomal RNA is a molecular building
block for ribosomes . Under this system, organisms are classified into three domains
and six kingdoms . The domains are Archaea, Bacteria, and Eukarya. The kingdoms

Feeding Tube Refusal Dilemma A 28 year old female with cerebral palsy and
debilitating arthritis is in the hospital for treatment. She is immobile and unable to
perform basic tasks on her own. Due to her condition, she is having trouble eating and
in order to help, the doctor believes that a feeding tube (PEG tube) should be
surgically inserted. When told about the treatment, the patient refuses surgery. She is
deemed competent and understands her situation. In this situation, I propose that the
care team should respect the wishes of the patient and let her die. It is clearly stated
that the patient is autonomous and aware of the potential risks of refusing treatment.
She is willing to accept the fact that if she does not receive the feeding tube, she will
die of malnutrition. In addition, she is not consenting to the surgery and they cannot
legally force her to accept treatment to have the PEG tube inserted. The conditions for
consent include competence, understanding and appreciation of information, and
voluntariness free from coercion, and undue influence (Young, Ch. 44). She has
fulfilled the requirements for competence because the care team acknowledges that
the patient recognizes that there is a decision that needs to be made, clearly
understands the information and treatment options, and the risks involved with each
decision (Orr, CBHD). There is no question that the patient understands and
appreciates the information because the care team is aware that she is able
5. All The Shah s Men Summary
This book, All the Shah s Men, is written like an exciting spy novel explaining the
Central Intelligence Agency s coup in 1953, for an American attack on Iran. The
book begins by explaining how Reza Shah signed an agreement to sell Iranian oil
release rights to the Anglo Iranian Oil Company. In 1950, Iranviolated the agreement
by scheming to take the oil assets that were created by Great Britain. Thus, causing
the British to barricade the Persian Gulf, stopping the trade in Iran and seriously
damaging their economy. Worried that Iran was collaborating with the Soviet Union
concerning the oil issue against Great Britain, Mosssadegh was overthrown by
President Eisenhower and Churchill. Stephan Kinzer argues that if Iran s prime

The Preface to the 2008 Edition: The Folly of Attacking Iran , highlights the
decades that have followed the coup and reasons for the United States attacking
Iran. It concludes by introducing the idea that Operation Ajax, which was the code
name of this operation, brought tragedy to Iran, which led to the rise of anti
American terror, and weakened the security of the United States. The author
explains how most Americans are unfamiliar with the history of what the CIA did
in Iran in 1953 and the reason why the country had such hatred for America
following the hostage crisis in 1979. The chapters begin with a clear overview of
Iranian history and ends with explaining the effects of the countries because of the
coup. This book is written like a thrilling story rather than a history book, which
makes the information easier to comprehend, for those uneducated about the topic.
In the epilogue, Kinzer writes in first person about how he took a trip to Iran
looking for traces of Mohammad Mossadegh. There are very detailed endnotes
with a list of sources broken down into each chapter. The sources are detailed and
come from a wide range of resources, most of which are very credible. Some
examples include, books, telegrams, oral and written interviews, and CIA reports.
This well organized and informative novel allows for the reader to gain more
knowledge about the topic, while

Anna Quindlen, the author of A Quilt of a Country uses different types of diction in
her essay. She uses compare contrast, opinions, and concrete information unlike John

different types of diction like sophisticated, and technical like using actual records to

As I previously aforementioned, both authors had the same view. Both of the authors,
Quindlen and Kennedy, view our country as having been built of immigrants;
7. Why I Want For My Future Career Choices
How much consideration have you put into considering the type of degree you
plan to pursue? For example, I took the time by considering my future career
choices, the type of campus I needed, and the best colleges for the degree I needed.
To ensure that you chose the correct degree, you should take a step back and
contemplate what you want to do career wise, and the degree needed for it.
Initially, I originally yearned to pursue pre vet studies, so I could go on to vet
school and be a veterinarian. I assumed that my love and knowledge of animals
would have been enough to keep me interested in this degree path. I had also
assumed that, since I had this natural need to aid injured or sick animals it would
have been the right degree choice. I was wrong about all of that. It takes much than a
love and need to aid animals to be a vet. You need to be extremely decent at
chemistry, which I remain not, so I would seriously struggle throughout those
courses. Not to mention the cost of pursuing your Doctoratein the studies. At that time,
I decided on Vet Tech. They can either have an Associates or Bachelors degree, the
schooling is significantly cheaper, and they do not euthanize the animals as a
veterinarian would. However, they do not generate enough money to support my
needs in life. They also do the veterinarians dirty work. For instance, cleaning anal
glands, nail trimming, teeth cleaning, giving shots, and examining fecal tests or
taking them. They don t get to treat the

Isabela Island, the largest island of the GalГЎpagos archipeggio, seemed to rise
straight out of the water. The sedimentary rock cliffs were rusty brown, but were
covered with life. Red and black crabs rested on the surface, while blue footed
boobies gracefully dived into the water to catch sardines. Baby nazca boobies peered
out of their nests to see a small inflatable boat, known as a panga, bobbing in the
water. Our guide, Christina, enthusiastically shared her knowledge of these animals
to my family. This wildlife viewing boat ride was our plan for the afternoon. But
things changed. As things always change.
The sun was starting to set in the west, over the Bolivar Channel. The sea seemed
calm, but a bird would occasionally skim the surface. My family and I watched the
horizon intently. The Bolivar Channel was known for having the best marine wildlife
viewings in the GalГЎpagos. In the far distance, water was displaced. Mist flew in
the air, forming the shape of a miniature fountain. Could it be a whale spout? Or was
it just my imagination? Quietly, I told my sister Raley. However, it was not quiet
enough. Christina heard and immediately started to scour the area with her
binoculars. What if there was no marine life in the area? I was convinced I would die
of embarrassment.
Suddenly, Christina dropped her binoculars.
I see it! It s a whale spout!
Immediately, our panga raced off full speed to the location of the whale spout.
However, as we inched closer to our
9. Tissue Injury In Horses
Horses that are used for professional showing or athletic competitions are inclined
to receive an injury involving tendons or ligaments, which can be career or life
ending depending on the severity. The injured soft tissue usually has a poor blood
supply so they are prone to healing with scar tissue. This makes the healed area less
elastic and decreases the function of the tendon or ligament, and re injury to the soft
tissue increases. Another issue associated with soft tissue injuries is the
inflammation of a tendon called tendonitis that can be seen in 43% of horses
returning to work (Alves AG, Stewart AA, et al, 2011). Because of these issues
regenerative therapy has been considered a more effective way to stimulate healing
for orthopedic injuries.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The focus of regenerative medicine is to the combine effects of a cell source,
scaffold support, and anabolic stimulus to enable healing to the damaged tissue.
One of the options for a cell source would be tenocytes; however, this would leave a
lesion at the donor site from a biopsy, which cannot be done to a horse s flexor tendon
without additional consequences. Also, cells derived from different tendons show
different characteristics compromising their effectiveness. Another option for
differentiated fibroblasts includes dermal and ligament fibroblasts, but they have
different cell characteristics that may not be useful in tendon repair. Therefore, stem
cells are being seen as the greatest option for soft tissue repairing and healing (Herthel

As the camera pans across her head from right to left, we can see in the background
the change of atmosphere as it goes from a dark room to a light room with the
combination of soft music, in order to show that Ms Gruwell has now developed a
new thought and a new light. The effect of this technique is to show that Ms
Gruwell now understands in depth what her students are facing and the impact its
reality creates on their lives every day. The use of this technique makes the
audience challenge their thinking about the lives of students who are living in
impoverished and corrupt environments. This challenges the audience s way of
thinking about people and to not pre judge them, based off what they heard and

knowing the truth. This will make the audience realize that even if you are talking
to someone face to face and the truth is being said, there will always be some truth

In the aftermath of the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989 the Australia government
is using a different foreign policy approach through bilateral dialogue to discuss
Chinas human rights issues. Before the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989, the
Australia government depended on the UN Commission on Human rights (UNCHR)
to help Chinas change its human right policy (Fleay, 2008). The Australia saw the
bilateral dialogue more effective because the government could invite the Chinese
counterpart behind closed doors meetings to discuss individual difference and point
of view of human rights issues in the region (Fleay, 2008). The Australia government
replaced public form of criticism of the UNCHR resolution to confidential diplomatic

For centuries, the most enjoyable activity for children to partake in is playing
outside. Playing outside develops fundamental social skills, engages all five senses,
stimulates creativity and imagination, and encourages cooperative play with others.
Throughout the years, outside play has become increasingly competitive. Now,
every child is encouraged to sign up for competitive sports teams as soon as they

With which store manager will conclude that response is mild agreement or small

From this question, we will get Nominal data. Because it has two possible values
male or female. We can count no. of males and females but both doesn t have their
actual values neither we can compare them to each other i.e. we can t say that male
has higher value than female. But we can say no. of males are less than or greater
than no. of females.
b. Fahrenheit thermometers
Collects values representing temperatures in Fahrenheit
Collected values representing temperatures in Fahrenheit(F) is an Interval Data. As in
the terms of temperature there is fixed interval. As difference between 1F and 3F is
same as in 22F and 24F. However, we cannot say that 5F is half than 10F because
there is no absolute zero in temperature. Temperature can increase to infinity as well
as decrease to infinity in Fahrenheit.
c. Kelvin thermometers Collects values representing temperatures in Kelvin
Collected values representing temperature in kelvin(k) is a Ratio Data. Because in
terms of kelvin temperature there is fixed intervals and as well as absolute zero. As
there is absolute zero in kelvin temperature we can say that 5 degrees is half hot as
compared to 10 degrees.

However, I disagree with that idea. The message my artwork sends is that pedophilia
is not okay. I started with generating ideas using a words web and asking random
people around me what they thoughtof when they heard specific words. After I made
the web I started to keep a list of any ideas that came to mindfor my art project. The
list started with a lot of ideas of how to include the symbols into my work and
slowly started to become more specific and detailed. I started coming up with ideas
such as dressing a teddy bear up as a sexual object and that be my piece and then I
thought of the ideaof using photography as my media.
My first idea was to use my film camera to photograph a young girl as if I were
stalking her throughout the day, then take the film and put it on a light table for the
audience to view the photos through a magnifying loop. I really enjoyed the
intimacy the viewers would get from being so close to the small photographs on a
lit table, and the idea also really put the audience in the perspective of the pedophile.
Then I realized a ginormous fault in my plan. I was encouraging pedophilia just as
much as the ad was without even realizing it. I needed the girl to gain power
throughout the photo series and overcome the traumatic experience. To do this, I
thought of having her see the pedophile

What s My Blood Type?
Many people are not aware of their blood type. You might not know what your blood

blood type depends on the genes you inherit from your parents. Blood types are

Part 1: What s My Blood Type?

these can do is create unhealthy thinking patterns which becomes a serious problem
among young people when it starts disrupting their regular routine. I personally think
these thinking patterns can very easily turn into diagnosed disorders such as PTSD,
GAD.
Bullying is a very common cause of anxiety among young people today. People
who are affected by some form of bullying often results them having recurring
thinking patterns e.g. experiencing flashbacks, having nightmares, panic attacks,
and a lot of them live in the fear that they will experience it again which in some
ways never switches these patterns off. I believe that because anxiety has this effect
where it fully takes control of people s lives, it should be recognized. I m sure

25. Christian Philosophy Of Education, Evangelism, And...
According to Schultz (2003) a Kingdom focused education must be built on the
following four points: Jesus Christ, A Biblical Philosophy of Education, Evangelism,
and Discipleship. The most appropriate place for Kingdom education to start is in the
family where children are taught that only salvation in Christ can perfect a person
(Schultz, 2003, p.19). Because Kingdom educationis rooted in development of a
personal relationship with Christ it exists as a present reality and not a future
physical kingdom (Schultz, 2003). The development of this relationship with
Christ is a lifelong process that starts at birth and continues 24 hours a day, 7 days
a week (Schultz, 2003). Parents bear the primary responsibility for this education
in Christ and must be supported by born again teachers who are also able to teach
children the gospel message (Schultz, 2003, p.31). A proper Biblical Philosophy of
Education enables students to be transformed into the image of Christ and be fully
equipped to serve Christ in everyday life (Schultz, 2003, p. 39). The ultimate goal of
Kingdom education is to develop a Godcentered worldview that empowers learners
to think and act according to God s ways (Schultz, 2003, p. 49). Practicing a
Christian Philosophy of education requires that a teacher s actions are in accord with
their words because 95% of the time students will reject the content and accept the
conduct (Schultz, 2003, p. 53). Schultz (2003) provided Biblical

Strategies of Japanese Supermarkets in Hong Kong
Yukiko Kawahara Chinese University of Hong Kong and Mark Speece Asian Institute
of Technology, Hong Kong Introduction
As business becomes increasingly internationalized, it is no surprise that many large
retailers have expanded beyond the borders of their own countries. In Hong Kong,
which is an international city, many local retailers have expanded abroad, and many
retailers operating in the territory come from Europe, North America, Japan, and
other East Asian countries. Japanese retailers, in particular, have been very successful
in Hong Kong, and Japanese supermarkets are a very important element of food

Among stores in Hong Kong, Yaohan, Uny, Jusco, and Seiyu fall into this category.
In Japan, these GMS department stores tend to locate in the suburbs, and they have
also expanded to medium and smaller cities. Land was much cheaper here, and the
Large Store Law initially did not restrict the establishment of large stores in suburbs
as much as in city centres. The law was strengthened in 1979, and expansion of the
GMS was curtailed. However, because of different location strategies, GMS chains
contain many more stores than traditional department stores. They also tend to rely
somewhat more heavily on their supermarkets (Table I). To cope with the Large
Store Law and spiralling land prices, GMS stores, in particular, have invested heavily
in small convenience and small speciality stores. They now own most of the large
convenience and speciality retail chains in Japan[6]. Many stores, including Tokyu
and Seibu, have also begun diversifying into non store retailing methods[7]. However,
until the Large Store Law was relaxed in 1993, there was little opportunity in Japan to
establish large new department stores, with their attached supermarkets. These
department store/supermarket complexes are the core business for both the traditional

For those firms who want to expand their business internationally, it is inevitable for
them to face the cultural challenge. This article stresses the impact of culture on
international operation as well. According to institutional based view, informal and
formal institutions have their own way to reduce risk. For informal ones, they rely on
relational contact which is informal relationship based and personalized exchange.

It obviously promotes specialization within specific region which firm can fully
utilize the human capital and other related resources such as regional pool of
specialized suppliers. What s more, firm can gain better understanding of cultures and
institutional environments. However, closely located competitors might seize the
important resources such as talented employee and, also, imitate its technology and
knowledge. Also, in this fast changing business world, responding faster should be
more appropriate. The firms that pursue agglomeration always take slower action
than other do since they focus their resources on specific region and it is difficult for
them to move or to exploit emerging market.
Future Research and Conclusion
For future research, an issue that interested me is the increasing of cultural
convergence. Can MNCs leverage resources and standardize organizational practices
across cultural boundaries? In my opinion, it is possible but really difficult to
achieve even the world is becoming more global since there is no truly 100%
globalization. Globalization does not mean that every country will become the same
but it makes people realize the differences between them when they move out of their
shells. When a firm goes abroad different strategy will be used differently on each
country so there is no universal strategy or standardize organizational practices.

32. The Collapse Of The Weimar Republic
Part A: Prior to the Munich Putsch
In November of 1923, Hitler tried to take advantage of the crisis facing the Weimar
government by establishing a revolution in Munich, Germany. It seemed like the
perfect opportunity, but poor planning and misjudgement resulted in failure and the
low security imprisonment of Adolf Hitler. After Germany s failure in World War I,
the Weimar Republichad been declared the new democratic government of Germany
in February 1919. The Weimar Republic was a genuine attempt to create a perfect
democratic country [and] looked like the perfect democracy, but it had [several]
weaknesses....
The Weimar Republic faced many problems. Perhaps the greatest danger was that the
constitution gave the President, the states and the army too much power, while
proportional voting meant that the Reichstag was divided and weak. In 1919 1923,
extremists on both the Left (especially the Spartacist revolt) and the Right (especially
the Kapp Putsch) tried to overthrow the government. The worst crisis occurred in
1923, when the French invaded to try to force Germany to pay reparations. This led
to hyperinflation and a number of rebellions, including Hitler s Munich Putsch.
To begin, the Weimar Constitution was ineffective and did not create a strong
government. In the constitution, Article 48 stated that in any given emergency, the
president could issue decrees without consulting the Reichstag. The article didn t
specifically state what an emergency was, therefore
33. Wilson Fourteen Points
Although Woodrow Wilson was stoic about many of his viewpoints, his shaping of
the Treaty of Versailles and the way he compromised on so many of his Fourteen
Points truly shows his lack of strength in international affairs. Wilson, who was
President throughout the First World War, stalled the United States from entering
until it was absolutely necessary. During the war, in a meeting with advisors, he
formulated a set of fourteen suggestions, which subsequently dropped into enemy
territory and eventually helped form the Treaty of Versailles. Unfortunately, between
the stubbornness of countries like France, who were severely disabled after the war,
and Warren Harding s determination to stay out of the League of Nations, many of

Wilson called World War II The war to end all wars. It is very likely he would want
to see this through to the end and make sure that world war would never happen
again. Because of this, many of his fourteen points were very peaceful and did not
appoint a winner or loser. It also required a great deal of international cooperation
in which many countries were not ready to participate. Absolute freedom of naval
navigation in either peace or war is quite a long stretch for many of the nations that
had just been severely battered and blockaded. International reduction of arms and
the removal of economic barriers had the possibility of reducing the defense, both
militarily and economically to dangerously low levels. His fourteen points also
made many suggestions concerning land and areas that had been involved in
conflict stretching back even to the Prussian occupation of Alsace Lorraine. Such
suggestions included an evaluation of colonial claims, of Russian territory, and
the restoration of states like Romania, Serbia, and Montenegro. Of course, the
Alsace Lorraine was to be restored to France, which caused even more of a
struggle for Germany to support itself. All of these were penultimate to Wilson s
sincere desire for a league of many nations working together to promote world
peace. Wilson conceded so many of his points in order to keep the League of
Nations. He saw this as the most important product because it was meant to

Influences on the Victorian Style
The Victorian Style is known for being more. Composed of various styles before its
time including past styles of Europe and Asia, it demonstrated eclecticism which is a
mixture of different styles, it incorporated historical influences, and traits and
characteristics from foreign countries. Its name roots from Queen Victoria s name
who was in power at the time from 1819 until 1901. This style was influenced by all
of the changes happening in the world around it. Simultaneously, as the style
emerged so did the Industrial Revolution which was a transition from producing in the
home to producing in factories and in larger amounts. It caused both social and
economic changes in all of Great Britain because it promoted a faster lifestyle. The
influences that people received from the Industrial Revolution directly affected how
they wanted to express themselves and how they wanted to be seen which ultimately
brought about the Victorian Style and the idea that the more a person had the higher
they sat on the social ladder.
In the Victorian Era, there was a hierarchical society mainly composed of an upper
class and a working class which were clearly at completely opposite sides of the
spectrum.

From childhood, I have been passionate about mathematics and problem solving.
Given the quantitative focus of engineering, I pursued my undergraduate studies in
civil engineering. During my years in college, I used my elective courses to explore
subjects from different disciplines. Of these, I developed a deep interest in finance,
particularly the financial markets and trading. To know more in finance, I later
enrolled in CFA level 1, participated in virtual stock marketcompetitions, did an

To further my passion for financial markets, I took up a job as a derivatives trader,

fast paced changing environment of finance and trading brought about by financial

39. Zoos And Conservation For Animals
For most of the wild things on Earth, the future must depend upon the conscience of
mankind, said by ecologist and pioneering conservationist Archie Carr. Humanity
has vast amounts of responsibilities and one of those responsibilities is to take care
of the wild animals in our world. However, is keeping wild animals in captivity really
the best way to take care of them? A zooor aquarium is an establishment that
maintains a collection of wild animals, in enclosures, to display to the public. The
American public loves to visit zoos and aquariums because they believe it s
educational and they ll be able to see animals from a variety of continents. The
concepts of zoos and aquariums have been around for centuries and the standard of

(Miller) Obviously, a zoo cannot provide adequate space to emulate an elephant s
natural habitat and often leaves them with a lack of exercise, causing arthritis from
standing on the same hard surface for hours. Similarly with aquariums, even the
largest, most well maintained aquariums cannot compare with the endless amount of
space in the ocean. It is easy to see that by these standards, zoos and aquariums cannot
sufficiently care for the animals that they hold in captivity. Being imprisoned in small
cages or enclosures can drive an animal crazy and lead to a disorder called
zoochosis, which is the abnormal behavior of animals because they have been kept
in captivity. Animals that suffer from zoochosis act very strangely by pacing back
and forth repetitively or by even biting or scratching themselves out of boredom
and frustration. I personally have observed this behavior at the San Diego Zoo,
two tiger cubs were isolated in a pitifully small room that resembled nothing like
the tropical forests that they would live in the wild. These cubs cried out in
distress and paced back and forth continuously from being kept in the same room
for many hours. Also in 1990, a polar bear in the Central Park Zoo named Gus,
alarmed visitors by compulsively swimming figure eights in his pool, sometimes for
twelve hours a day. He also stalked children from his underwater viewing area. His
behavior became so abnormal and frightening that the zoo put
40. Rebel Without A Cause Film Analysis
Sexuality, is one source of identification that we as humans all have and is
significant to who we are as people. There are plenty of sexualities ranging from
homosexuality, heterosexuality, bisexuality, etc. Homosexuality, is a sexual identity
that has been discussed about and been looked down upon for plenty of years in
religions and societies for centuries. Homosexualityhas always been represented in
films but it is more directly represented in films now than in older films in the early
and mid twentieth century. The way that homosexuality is represented in Rebel
Without a Cause (1955) is totally different but almost similar to the way that
homosexuality is represented in Naz Maalik (2015). Rebel Without A Cause
(1955), was directed by Nicholas Ray, the film is about a troubled teenager named
Jim who constantly gets in trouble at school. After his parents move him to a new
town, he ends up in trouble with the teenagers that he goes to school with. Jim isn t
liked much by a large amount of teenagers at his new school, he gets in knife fights
and trys to prove his bravery by participating in a game called chickie , which leads
to the death of one of the teenagers during the film. Homosexuality is represented in
Rebel Without a Cause (1955), in multiple interesting ways. Plato, which is one of
the teenagers that Jim meets at school, is obsessed with Jim and is highly interested
in him. From the very first time that Plato sees Jim, you can tell that he has some sort

42. Sea Otter Speech
A sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America, and is a part of the
weasel family. They range along the coast from San Mateo County, and South
ward through Monterey County, down through Santa Barbara county. Most
animals don t have fat on them, unlike a sea otter which has blubber to keep them
warm, which is very thick. It keeps the otters warm in negative degree waters.
Their fur is made up of million hairs per square inch. Only way they keep their
coats waterproof, which they only do by hours of cleaning and grooming. Sea
otters spend most of their lives cleaning their fur to stay waterproof and warm.
Most sea otters eat up to a quarter of their weight every day. Sea otters also may
hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the top to eat its food on its chest,
and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams, crayfish, and frogs.
Most otters hunt by detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only last
about 15 20 years for females and 10 15 for males. Male otters weigh up to 44 99
pounds and females weigh about 31 73 pounds. Female otters normally have their
first pup when they are about the age of four to five. Their pregnancies last for
about 4 5 months. Their babies are called pups. The pups are born anytime of the
year, except the California sea otters are born normally through January and March.
When the pups are born they weigh about five pounds. In Alaska they are born in the
summer and not the winter.
43. The Link Between Earth And Heaven
Kingship Linking Heaven and Earth: Try to imagine these three distinct
situations: The year is 1124 B.C.E and in China, the Zhou dynasty has recently
prevailed over the largely successful Shang Empire. Just years earlier in
approximately 3100 B.C.E, near the smooth flowing Nile, a conqueror by the
name of Menes (Narmer) was in the process of establishing a centralized state
which was to be ruled by the supreme pharaoh. Back in the land between the two
rivers , Babylonian ruler King Hammurabi was enforcing his strict judgements and
codes of law. Based on these three separate situations, it is easy to view and perceive
the cultural differences between each ancient civilization. Despite cultural
differences, miles of separation, and existence in difference centuries, all three of the
civilizations discussed above share one distinct similarity that links them all together
The link between Earth and heaven. All three civilizations maintained an
expectation for their kings to perform the same task: to serve as the main connector
between the heavens and life on Earth. Beginning in Mesopotamian civilization, the
link between mere mortals and the gods was the leader or King; in this case,
