Reasons Why Abortion Should Be Legal
Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of legalizing abortion presents a challenging task due to the
sensitive and controversial nature of the topic. Addressing this issue requires a delicate balance
between presenting factual information, acknowledging diverse perspectives, and maintaining a
respectful tone. It demands extensive research to delve into the historical, social, ethical, and
legal aspects surrounding abortion.
Navigating through the intricate web of arguments from both supporters and opponents of
abortion legality is no easy feat. The writer must be well-versed in various philosophical, ethical,
and scientific viewpoints, and must skillfully weave these perspectives into a coherent and
persuasive narrative. Furthermore, the essay should be grounded in up-to-date information,
considering the evolving legal landscape and societal attitudes toward abortion.
Another layer of complexity arises from the emotional and personal nature of the topic. Writers
must remain empathetic to the experiences and beliefs of individuals who have faced the
decision of abortion, respecting the diverse reasons that lead people to advocate for its
legalization. Striking a balance between logic and compassion is crucial to presenting a
comprehensive and convincing argument.
Additionally, framing the discussion within the context of human rights, women's autonomy, and
public health adds further layers of intricacy. This requires a nuanced understanding of the
ethical implications and potential consequences of legalizing abortion, taking into account the
broader societal impact.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the reasons why abortion should be legal is a complex task
that demands thorough research, an understanding of diverse perspectives, and a skillful
navigation of sensitive issues. It is essential for the writer to maintain a balanced and respectful
tone while addressing the multifaceted aspects of this contentious subject.

Societal Injustices Upon Women
Human rights are women s rights, and women s rights are human rights (Hillary
Clinton). This is a very important message that can be applied throughout history to
prove the significance of women during time periods in which they were viewed as
substantially lesser than men. Over the years, women have grown independent,
fighting for their rights, changing the gender norms placed on society and the
expectations women are forced to uphold. To successfully do this, women have
evolved their mindset on how life should run to accommodate for gender equality.
This evolution in the mindset of women is the ... Show more content on

She decides that she will become an independent woman, allowing her to not be
tethered down by the conservative views of her husband as well. She faked being
a part of society and was becoming herself and daily casting aside that fictitious
self which we assume like a garment with which to appear before the world (Chopin
108). Although she despised society itself, she couldn t leave at first due to all the
material and emotional tethers she had to the world, such as her kids, her
husband, her estate. Later on however, she slowly started to detach herself from
these tethers. Edna also gets the advice at one point that, The bird that would soar
above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad
spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth. (Chopin
138). The passage proves exactly how hard it is for a woman to be independent.
Any man can soar, regardless of how weak his wings are, yet for a woman, she
must have the wit of a hawk and the strength of an eagle to truly soar past society
and its stereotypes. This also proves a great example of imagery s effect as the
analogy to the bird and the descriptive words such as soar and prejudice induce the
reader to imagine an image in which this is occurring, the adjectives and the
romantic style of literature aiding in the vision that is created. In The House on

How Did Jimi Hendrix Influence Society
Jimi Hendrix is considered a key influence in music of the 20th century. The
American rock songwriter, singer, and guitarist was born and brought up in Seattle
where he began to practice and eventually hone his talents at playing the guitar
(Erlewine). While being a self trained guitarist, Hendrix is also acknowledged
today as an intellectual with marvelous musical abilities. He is renowned for his
speed, ambition, and precision while playing, ability to apply intricate melodic
elements as well as his ability to play, sing, and dance at the same time. As a
guitarist and rock n roll singer, Jimi Hendrixwon numerous awards for his major

Hendrix s ability to perform guitar solos categorized by perplexing whammy bar
use gave The Star Spangled Banner a sense of distortion of both time and
direction. The most controversial nature of his style is characterized by the shrill
and lurid sounds he manufactured from his guitar as they were complemented by
the sounds of gunfire, screams, and bombs (Owen). However, his intentions were
morally just and noble by simply playing a patriotic song for the soldiers risking
their lives for the American people in Vietnam. He incorporates his artistic side as
a musician by including sounds of war, barrage of gunfire, and bombs that
American soldier face with the use of the whammy bar. From the beginning,
Hendrix s basics of playing were completely different from everyone else; he did
not play with the C Major Chord like many guitarists would, instead he did it outside
the box (Jones). Hendix also used the wah wah pedal regularly, a feature that made
him distinctive from all other musicians and guitar players (Leonard). This unique
style that Hendrix introduced skyrocketed in popularity and revolutionized the rock

Masking Poor Communication

August 22, 2011
The article Masking Poor Communication discussed how miscommunication is
misunderstood and perceived as something. What someone is saying can easily be
taken for something else. Everyone has their own perception. This can have a negative
impact on the people who are close to you. In the article it stated that people
commonly believe that they communicate better with close friends than strangers.
This closeness can lead people to overestimate how well they communicate, a
phenomenon we term the closeness communication bias ( Keysar, 2011). Just because
someone is close to you doesn t mean they know what you mean every time you say

Miscommunication is normal in the world and is happening everyday. I think that I
can avoid miscommunicating with my significant other by being upfront if I m
unsure about something. If you admit when you re wrong that can have a positive
impact on the communication skills. Listening to exactly what is being said and
compromising allows for both parties to be happy and content with the out come.
Talking and not arguing when trying to work the problem out is another way you can
avoid miscommunication.
Interpersonal communication is an important component of building and
maintaining these relationships (Sole, 2011). This communication helps us meet
needs for belonging and for acceptance and enables us to share values and
principles, which are the foundation of human society (Sole. 2011). A person has to
identify their weakness to help improve and fix the problem. Communication
affects a person as a whole. It makes them second guess what type of person they
really are. How would you feel if you were unable to express yourself?
In conclusion, Communication can go a long way on both ends. Every individual
will have their own perception of what is being discussed. Say what s on your mind.
If you re unsure about something, ask questions to get a better understanding. No
one is a mind reader and just because someone is close to you doesn t mean they
know what you mean every time you speak.

A Brief Note On Labor And Leisure
Katy Miller Labour and Leisure essay two Women and Labour: The changing roles
in our working society through a lens. It s hard to believe in this day and age with
so many opportunities for woman to become successful in a carer and contribute
to the working society that before the First World War only ninety years ago
marriage meant the end of that chance for so many young people. By looking at
both short films and film depictions, I want to show the journey of how the Labour
industry has changed from being a majority lead male dominated working
environment with the social status for woman changing from those who are either
unmarried or in poor lower class families in domestic feminine held jobs, to those
of married woman, in a well to do family made to give up chances of education and
carer for themselves, married off to become leisurely ladies of the house and made
to stay home with the children while there husband became the sole earner.
Regardless of her social status, most woman surrendered her rights from the day
she married but if on the off chance she was able to work in one of these domestic
arenas such as the textile and clothing industry the jobs would have been of little
satisfaction and that of a low wage. This was to be true of a time in Victorian
England, but in 1895 French director Louis Lumiбє»re created a short black and

Irony In The Elements Of Southern Gothic Literature
John asks Brian, You re beginning to figure it out now, aren t you? after spending
time together writing a piece of southern gothic literature, which turns out to become
a piece of more contemporary southern gothic literature. In southern gothic literature
most people think of the old definition but Stown shows us the more contemporary
piece of writing. Mostly every element of southern gothicliterature matches the
classic definition but irony, outsiders, and social issues have a more contemporary
definitions. Stown is a piece of contemporary Southern Gothic Literature because of
the elements of irony, outsiders, and social issues.
Irony is a very important characteristic of southern gothic literature. Irony, as
defined in classic southern gothic literature, relates to slavery. It refers to how the
south was rich before the Civil War and then went down in the dumps after the
Civil War. The irony the reader hears of in Stow is with people. It deals with John s
personal belief and the values of John and possibly being destroyed when he is gone.
Throughout the podcast, there are many different actions that are ironic. An example
of irony in Stown is how John portrays his beliefs about tattoos. John beliefs that
tattoos are terrible and doesn t think that anyone should have them, yet, he has them.
John stats He s covered up with tattoos. He s almost skin and bones. He looks like a
crackhead. John explains He s standing here, shirtless and tattooed. John hates tattoos,
Barnes And Noble Case Study Solution
Barnes Noble was originally founded as a book printing company in 1873 in
Wheaton, Illinois. In 1917, the company opened its first bookstore in New York
City. However, in 1974, the company fell on hard times and was bought by
Leonard Riggio. Barnes Noble eventually become the largest bookstore by 1996,
offering discounted books. By the late 1990s, Barnes Noble was faced with a new
challenge, the Internet; customers were able to order their books cheaper online
and read them without going to a physical bookstore. This forced Barnes Noble to
reevaluate its strategy and its future direction in order to stay competitive in the
bookstore industry. Barnes Noble narrowed its problems down into two major
issues. The first issue was whether or not the company should split its two business
lines, having one line for digital and online business and the other serve as the
more traditional brick and mortar stores. The company also needed to determine
the best way to allocate its resources so that it could compete aggressively in the
market. The second issue facing the company was whether it was well suited to
make these necessary changes independently or if it would need some allies in
order to achieve success. Because Barnes Noble was strictly a publisher and retailer,
the company didn t have the knowledge or experience to independently build an e
reader for the online market that could compete effectively; it needed to partner with
another company that could build a

Madness And Madness In Hamlet
In Act 3 Scene 4, as a result of Hamlet s rash and reactive thoughts, he Kills Polonius .
This act articulates Hamlet s madness in his seemingly dismissive response to his
murder of Polonius and the contemptuous treatment of his body. Hamlet through
characterisation dehumanises Polonius as merely a wretched, rash, intruding fool
who he will lug the guts [of which] into the neighbour room . Ultimately, Shakespeare
characterises Hamletas mad through his lack of remorse over his murder of
Polonius. In these Scene, Hamlet s madness is further conveyed in his verbal
engagement with his father s ghost to which Gertrude describes as a Nothing at
all, yet all that is I see...This the very coinage of your brain/ This bodiless creation
ecstasy . As Hamlet engages with an apparent projection of his mind, the contrast
between Hamlet and Gertrude as she fails to see the Ghost, along with the
connotations of hallucinogenic ecstasy, creates an image of Hamlet s madness.
This portrait of madness is further manifested in Hamlet s comical repartee in Act 4
Scene 4 as Claudius asks Hamlet where Polonius is: In heaven. Send a messager
there if you want to be sure. If your messenger can t find him, you can check hell
yourself. But seriously, if you don t find him within the next month, you ll be sure to

Once And Future King Theme
The Once and Future King The Once and Future King was an interesting book to
say the least. There were many themes I noticed throughout the novel. Each book
in the novel told of a different theme, which gave the novel its appeal. The Once
and Future King has many themes that all come together to tell of a great tale. One
major theme I noticed in book one was the theme of learning. Wart was a young
boy that did a lot of things. He also made a lot of mistakes and sometimes didn t
follow instructions. It was important for him to learn because the land would soon
be his. He also was taught mathematics and chivalry, as this very important at that
time. Most kids grew up and became knights. Learning is the only way to go if you
expect to become king. Wart is young now and has a lot to learn as he will soon
become King Arthur. Learning to me is important, as it is the only way to progress
in life. It was best that Wart learned at a young age. Another major theme in book
one was the theme of pursuit. Pursuit was shown in many ways in book one also.
Wart went out hawking, which led to many new discoveries. Arthur followed the
hawk deep into the forest. He was chasing the hawk, but soon got sidetracked. These
sequence of events led him to meeting King Pellinore. The king is troubled too and

Time has to be the most important theme in the entire book. It takes time for any
task to be completed. Merlyn knew the future, but intended on living in present day.
He knew in time Wart would become King Arthur. As stated in book four, the king
wished he could go back in time to maybe change or experience something he had
not before. In books three and four there is a lot of talk about time in different forms.
Some moments discussed the talk about time and how much they had left in that
certain situation. Time is very important, as you never know how much you have
An Essay On The Simple Gift By Steven Herrick
Year 9: The Simple Gift essay
Statement of intention:
In this essay I intend to prove that The Simple Gift by Steven Herrick shows that
money and status doesn t buy love and friends through the topic of identity.
(29)
How does The Simple Gift relate to the theme of identity?
The author attempts to show that without money, Old Bill, Billy and Caitlin can still
enjoy each other s company. The Simple Gift attempts to demonstrate that money
and status doesn t buy love or friends. From the relationship of Old Bill and Billy,
The Simple Gift shows us that there is no money needed to have a great friendship.
We find out through the connection of Billy and Caitlin that money doesn t buy love
and through the relationship of Old Bill and Caitlin, money is not needed for an
enjoyable time.
The Simple Gift shows us how the friendship of Billy and Old Bill overcome their
wealth and status. For example Billy takes care of Old Bill. Billy provides Old Bill
with company, friendship and breakfast in the morning. In the passage too early (p.

Persuasive Essay About Surfing
Surfing is a sport that has been around since the early 1900 s. More and more
people are falling in love with the sport each and every day. It can be one of the
most innovative ways to express an individual s creativity. The two main aspects that
people find most enjoyable within the sport are competitive and recreational aspects.
Although these two aspects may be completely different, they both can bring out the
same joy and love for the sport.
Competition aspect
Like every other sport, there will always be a sense of competitiveness to surfing.
This is why some people love surfing so much. Whether you re competing at a local
level or all the way up to a global level, the feeling of intensity and pressure will
always remain to be present. Also, surfing is an individual s sport; meaning every
maneuver and turn reflects solely on you, and you alone. This not only kicks the
intensity up a notch, as well as increases everyone s determination and drives to

surfing without the pressures of a competitive aspect. Some might say recreational
surfing is a way that you can truly express yourself as well as provide an
opportunity to explore not only yourself, but the world. It can bring you to places
that have been untouched by anyone else in the surfing world, allowing you to
bring it to life. This can also allow some people to further progress within the sport
much faster and fall even more in love with it. This kind of environment attracts
people that are more easy going and are interested in doing some

Double Identity
In this film analysis, the important aspects of purpose, audience, form, and content
of Double Happiness (1994) by Mina Shum will be examined in the context of
Chinese multiculturalism in Canadian society. The purpose of this film is to define
the double identity of Jade Li (Sandra Oh) in the context of a traditional Chinese
family and by also attempting to become a popular actress. This type of
multiculturalism defines the complex methods in which Jade attempts to appease
the traditional values of Chinese family values (fixed marriages, professionalism,
etc.), but to also live a secret life in the quest to become a famous Canadian actress.

Humor is often used in to expose the traditional values of the parents in relation to
Jade s own personal desire to become an actress. Jade s family represents the strict
observance of Chinese familial values, which seek to maintain a moral and ethical
standing in the community. In contrast tot his perspective, jade is a young woman
that wants to become involved in a profession that her parents view as being
unworthy of her station. For instance, Jade is constantly being harassed by her
parents to get married to Chinese men that she hardly knows. However, jade is a
very good natured young woman that takes these archaic marital traditions with a
sense of humor. Certainly, Jade is the main character of the film, which also defines
the comedic talents of Sandra Oh in this role. Overall, the comedy genre is utilized to

Susan Glaspell s Trifles And A Jury Of Her Peers
Although A Jury of Her Peers and Trifles are similar in plot, Mustazza s article,
Generic Translation and Thematic Shift in Susan Glaspell s Trifles and A Jury of
Her Peers highlights the differences and similarities between the two. Mustazza s
article may help aid readers to understand the differences between Glaspell s two
works and provide understanding as to why Glaspell may have changed the genre
and form of the plot. Trifles is a dramatic play whereas A Jury of Her Peers is prose
fiction. While some differences may be seen on the surface, other differences will
need to be inspected closely. Mustazza s article may help one to understand Glaspell
s works by providing analysis and additional perspectives on both A Jury of her Peers
and Trifles .
The most obvious difference between Glaspell s two works is the title. The play is
entitled Trifles whereas the prose version is called A Jury of Her Peers . Both
titles draw the attention of the audience to different parts of the plot. Trifles
highlights the trivial household items in the plot whereas A Jury of Her Peers
accentuates the women s roles and how they question what is morally right
(Mustazza 489). Mustazza s article provides background knowledge and a reason
why Glaspell may have changed and retitled the prose version. Since women were
in the final years of fighting for the right to vote in 1917, changing the title from
Trifles to A Jury of Her Peers made the piece more contemporary and

true that Apple has always focussed on consumer trends and demands and thus has
been capable of avoiding the decline stages. Further market development and

Persuasive Essay On Smoking
On every cigarette package the surgeon general clearly warns the public of health
risks involved with smoking (Marlboro), yet people still decide to smoke. Jennifer
is one of those people. What appeal do cigarettes have that cause people to ignore
this very important warning? It is also publicly known how addicting smokingis. Why
do people decide to chain themselves to this dangerous habit, and more importantly,
how can these chains be broken? People try quitting every day. Some are
successful, some are not. Jennifer is also one of these people who want to quit.
With hopes of realizing why she decided to start smoking, why she continues to
smoke, and the real risks involved in her and her family s lives, she hopes to find a
solution to help her break the chains of smoking for good. Jennifer came from a
family of smokers. She was born to a mother and father who smoked. Her
grandparents, aunts and uncles were also smokers. Female family members would
stop by and spend their time drinking coffee and smoking in the kitchen while
chatting. When Jennifer was very young, she would ride with her dad to store and
when he bought cigarettes he would buy her a pack of candy cigarettes. Today this
sounds horrible, but being born in the early 1980 s this was common. Ashtrays were
placed all over the home (even make in art classes for parents as gifts), parents
smoked with their children in their cars, people smoked in restaurants, and at
designated smoking areas inside the mall. Being raised and surrounded by smokers,
Jennifer trusted their judgement. And when she was offered her first cigarette, she
really did not hesitate to try it. When Jennifer was fourteen, she was offered her
first cigarette by one of her siblings. Even though it made her feel sick, she
continued smoking it. The act of smoking felt natural to her, possible because of
the pretend play of smoking when she was younger. And while her family did not
allow her to smoke as a minor, it was not hard to hide her new habit smokers cannot
usually smell cigarette smoke. Her friends also started smoking around the same
time, so socially it was accepted in her group. It became a daily part of her life and
has continued to be for the last twenty years. Times
What Is The Impact Of Beethoven Symphony 3
Ludwig Van Beethoven was a German composer and pianist born in 1770. He is
one of the most well known composers in western music history, and is regarded as
a crucial figure in the transition between the Classical and Romantic eras of music. In
1792, Beethoven migrated to Vienna, a thriving cultural hub of Europe, and lived
there for the rest of his life. During this time, which is characterised as the late
Classical Period, society underwent many socio political changes, such as the French
Revolution. In this essay I will examine how the political climate of Europe
influenced and inspired the composition of music, through the example of Beethoven
s SymphonyNo. 3: Eroica.

It is most well known for its connection with the historical figure Napoleon
Bonaparte, who was a primary leader of the French Revolution and First Consul of
the state at the time. Being a revolutionary himself, Beethoven held Bonaparte in
high regard, and dedicated Symphony No. 3 to him, with the initial title Sinfonia
Bonaparte . However, later in 1804, Bonaparte declared himself Emperor of
France, and upon hearing this, Beethoven flew into a rage, [...] took hold of the
title page at the top, ripped it all the way through, and flung it on the floor (Sipe, 31
). Only then did he rename the work Sinfonia Eroica , or Heroic Symphony . Thus,
it is apparent through the initial title of Sinfonia Bonaparte , that the composition of
this piece was primarily influenced by Beethoven s political convictions of the
revolution, and his great admiration for the man who appeared to be its leader. We
can also see that the sudden destruction of the cover page of the symphony and the
abrupt title change was due to the sudden betrayal by Bonaparte, and this shows us
the intensity of Beethoven s feelings of rage as his homage was turned into
disillusionment when Bonaparte crowned himself Emperor and altered politics in

Courage In The Time Of The Butterflies
Courage essay
In The Time of The Butterflies there were three sisters that would gain courage to
fight for their rights and to get rid of Trujillo. They knew what they what they were
up against and what some of the consequences could be but they had enough courage
to fight for their rights. The three sisters from the story were Mate, Minerva, and
Dede. Dede did not have as much courage as her sisters but throughout the book she
builds some.
Patria is one character that also shows courage throughout book. At the beginning
of the book Patria doesn t show a lot of courage. Patria was really questioning about
if she should join or not. She didn t show a lot courage because her husband was
really in control of her and he didn t want her to join the revolution. One day Patria
saw a young boy get shot who was around the same age as her son. After she saw a
boy get shot she gained courage and started to fight for her rights and she tried to
make stuff better for her and her family.
Minerva was a character that showed a lot of courage in the book. At the beginning

about Trujillo and saw what he was like to people and after she had a lot of courage.

Current Bullying Laws Not Working
Current Bullying Laws Not Working Bullying is something that has been going on
in schools and communities for centuries. There are however, laws that have been
put into place to help prevent bullying. These laws were first started in 1964.
However, under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 does not directly cover
religion, often religious based harassments are based on shared ancestry of ethnic
characteristics which is covered. (Federal Laws 1) Laws started changing around

they have increased use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs, along with mental health

bullying, bullying overlaps with discriminatory harassment when it is based on
race, national origin, color, sex, age, disability, or religion. (Federal Laws 1) After
the 1999 Columbine High School shooting, forty eight states put anti bullying laws
into place. All of their laws state that a hardcore investigation must take place,
along with reporting it, followed by strict punishment. A victim has to report it
happening from the same person or group repeatedly before anything is done
about it, in order to suspend or expel the bully. Not many students in school are
willing to report any bullying activity, they fear that they too will become bullied,
for being a snitch or tattle tale . Students know that if the bully discovers who told
on them, then it will make them more hostile and escalate them to find more cruel
way to punish their victim. Even if the bully is expelled from school there is other
means of torturing someone. One way that has risen since the laws were put into

Emotional Behavioral Disorders
Emotional Behavioral Disorder (EBD) also known as (Behavioral Disordered,
Seriously Emotionally Disorders, and Emotional behavioral Disorders) is the 4th
largest disability category under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. EBD
like most disabilities has some sort of vagueness to its definition. The Individuals
with Disabilities Education Act of 1997 (IDEA) defines EBD as a condition
exhibiting one or more of the following five characteristics: An inability to learn that
cannot be explained by intellectual, sensory, or health factors, An inability to build or
maintain satisfactory interpersonal relationships with peers and teachers,
Inappropriate types of behavior or feelings under normal circumstances, A general
pervasive mood of unhappiness or depression, and A tendency to develop physical
symptoms or fears associated with personal or school problems (Sec. 300.8 Child
with a disability., 2004). According to IDEA the in order to be classified as EBD one
has to exhibit one or more of these characters tis over a long period of time and to a
marked degree that adversely affects a child s educational performance (Sec. 300.8
Child with a disability., 2004).
It is hard to distinguish the genuine causes for EBD. The reason why such disorders
can arise in a child are due to a multiple or overlapping factors (Walker, 1999 2000).

Excluding For Profit Proprietary Colleges from Receiving Federal Student Financial
Aid
Introduction
Every year, higher education institutions (HEI s) receive billions of dollars from the
Department of Education in the form of loans, grants and subsidies. These funds are
authorized under Title IV of the Higher Education Act, and are the primary source of
Federal student aid for all HEI s in the United States. The main Title IV programs
include Loans, Grants and Federal Work Study (U.S. Government Accountability
Office [GAO], 2009).
HEI s include public colleges, private non profit schools and private for profit
schools. In the 2010 2011 academic year, the private for profit schools (known as
proprietary schools ) collected over $32 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Public colleges did not have the capacity to handle the sudden influx of new
students, and did not have the agility to react swiftly to the sudden upswing in
demand. PHEI s saw the potential market value of these unserved students, and
were able to move swiftly to put new programs, and sometimes entire schools, in
place to meet demand. From 2008 2010, the ten largest proprietary schools had an
average increase in enrollment of over 30% (Harkin, 2012). In the decade between
2000 2010, the PHEI industry had an overall increase in enrollment of 235% (Figure
1.) This represents over 9% of the population of post secondary students (Lynch,
Engle, Cruz, 2010). This growth was supported by the government, which believed
the public sector could not meet the rising demand for education.
During this time of exponential growth in the private for profit sector, the industry
benefited from changes in Federal government policies. The U.S. government saw
private colleges as a way to expand the choices in the education market. It also saw
them as a way to meet demand for education and to develop a more skilled
workforce in the United States (Harkin, 2012). To assist in the expansion of this
sector of education, constraints on Federal financial aid were loosened, and
accredited for profits enjoyed increased access to Federal student aid funds (Loonin,
2011).
In addition to the rising demand for tertiary education, the advent of the internet gave
PHEI s a new delivery method for
Gross Motor Milestones
Moving and exploring the environment as an infant is significant for motor,
cognitive, perceptual, and social development, particularly at the point during infancy
where the brain is developing very rapidly.
Many movements happen in a fairly predictable order in typically developing infants.
As infants progress to becoming a toddler, they begin to achieve motor milestones
e.g.
Crawling and walking (gross motor skills),
Stacking blocks or colouring (fine motor skills) and
Speech and comprehension (language skills).
These gross movements gradually become clearer throughout infancy and early
childhood. Thus meaning infants become able to lift their heads, sit up, and
eventually stand with minimal support.
A new borns movements seem to be

Nausea is nothing to worry about for one who is pregnant; just as Amy Fitzpatrick

Amy s symptoms went from a continuous queasy feeling to a loss of appetite and
being unable to stand strong odors. However, she still viewed this as a normal part
of the pregnancyand went to Virginia to visit family despite being unable to sit up
the entire trip. During this time, her condition began to deteriorate at a faster rate

ordered blood tests, ultrasounds, and consultations with countless other doctors; no
alternative cause was found. Fitzpatrick began to try her own remedies which
included: herbal therapy, chinese massage, water with lemon, ginger, and sea bands.
However, these remedies also failed to prevent the vomiting and she became sicker in
her fourth month. Amy continued to lose weight, sixteen pounds, and was eventually

Predicting Preferences
Predicting Preferences
Prediction involves making a statement concerning the likely value of an event or
action uncertain or unknown at the time of the statement. Since the theory of
probability, (inaugurated by the French mathematicians Blaise Pascal and Pierre
Fermat in 1654), was developed to quantify uncertain events in terms of their
likelihood of occurrence, formal prediction is now viewed as a mathematical topic
involving probabilistic modeling. Indeed, the mathematician Karl Pearson said in
1907 that the fundamental problem in statistics is prediction. Prediction, however, is
usually not an end goal itself, but rather means to put probabilistic bounds on the
relative frequency or likelihood of occurrence of future uncertain ... Show more

Bernoulli resolved the paradox by postulating that people do not make choices
based on the expected rewards alone, but rather based on the value or pleasure that
each individual pay off is likely to yield to them. He said The determination of the
value of an item must not be based on the price, but rather on the utility it yields....
There is no doubt that a gain of one thousand ducats is more significant to the
pauper than to a rich man though both gain the same amount. He suggested there
was a function U(w) (called a utility function) which describes the amount of value
or utility that the individual gains by having an amount of wealth w. Rational
individuals prefer more money to less money, so U(w) is increasing, but the
incremental value of more wealth decreases as one becomes wealthier (decreasing
marginal utility or value of wealth) so U(w) is concave. Bernoulli stated that
people determined how much to pay for the game or gamble not based on the
gamble s expected value but rather it s expected utility. Thus, if x1, x2, ..., xn are
the possible outcomes of an uncertain economic endeavor or gamble, and their
probabilities of occurrence are p1, p2, ..., pn then a decision maker with an initial
wealth of W would make decisions based on their expected utility of their final
wealth, U(W+x1)*p1 + U(W+x2)*p2 +...+ U(W+xn)*pn. Using this approach, one
can predict preferences between two uncertain events by

The King James White
James White is the director of Alpha and Omega Ministries, a Christian apologetics
organization based in Phoenix, Arizona. He is a professor and has authored or
contributed to more than twenty four books. He is also an accomplished debater.
He is an elder of the Phoenix Reformed Baptist Church, has been married to his wife
Kelli for more than thirty two years, and has two children and two grandchildren.
White s work is a very profound book that talks about the controversy in some
churches about the best translationto use: modern translations or the King James
translation. He fought against the idea of some that the King James Version is the
only true Bible. He did an excellent job defending his own views while pointing out
the errors of these groups.
Summary of the Book
The first chapter puts the King James Version Only groups on a spectrum. The least

In most of the charts he presented, White put the KJV up next to either the NIV or
the NASB (186, 266). It is understandable that everyone favors certain translations
over others, his preference for these two translations is quiet obvious throughout the
book. However, for the purpose of this book, this preference made him fail to provide
a more neutral understanding of the principles he wrote about. Actually, his
favoritism towards these translations went against his own words, But we must be
careful to avoid making the basic error of setting up one translation as the standard
over all others (169). The author would have better demonstrated this principle by
using more than just two translations in a comparison against the KJV
Comparing The Australian And Indonesian Economy

Australian living standards are higher than Indonesia s, this is a result of Australia
maintaining higher economic performance through superior economic indicators.
Australia s economic indicators reflect a mature and relatively stable economic
growth with a population 1/10th of Indonesia s, in comparison, Indonesia s economy
reflects a growing developing economy. Indonesia s economic trends are improving at
a rapid rate and if this trend continues, Indonesia could have in the mid to long term
superior economic growth and thus higher living standards than Australia. Particularly
as Indonesia has a young population to fuel this.

In Figure 2 it is evident that Indonesia s cost of living, as reflected by the CPI, has
been significantly deteriorating over the last 8 years. Although research argues
that CPI may not be an effective indicator of the cost of living for a developing
country such as Indonesia (East Asia, 2015). In contrast measuring the percentage
of a household budget that goes to food is could be a good indicator. Since 2000,
the percentage of household budget spent on food has declined, meaning higher
expenditure on discretionary goods and services. This indicates that Indonesia s
urban regions are getting richer faster than the impression expressed with the CPI
(East Asia, 2015). This is also reflected in figure 1, as the significant increase of
mobile phone subscriptions is a good proxy of increased living standards as a
mobile phone is a discretionary living cost. This is a result of the Indonesian growth
rate earning a higher level of surplus income to spend on more luxury items.

Samuel Beckett Essay
Beckett s Absurd Characters
Beckett did not view and express the problem of Absurdity in any form of
philosophical theory (he never wrote any philosophical essays, as Camus or Sartre
did), his expression is exclusively the artistic language of theatre. In this chapter, I
analyse the life situation of Beckett s characters finding and pointing at the parallels
between the philosophical background of the Absurdity and Beckett s artistic view.
As I have already mentioned in the biography chapter, Beckett read various
philosophical treatises; he was mostly interested in Descartes, Schopenhauer, and
Geulincx. These thinkers are the main sources which influenced and formed Beckett
s view of the world as well as his literary writings.

Changing the Genre of a Blog Article
There is a belief that the way information is presented can affect the way it is going
to be understood by the person. In this assignment, our task was to find a published
piece of work and change its genre drastically. Then we had to analyze which genre
is the best for presenting the information that we have. The topic that my partner and
I chose was about the Ukrainian crisis. The primary genre is a blogpost from The
Washington Postand the secondary genre is a poem. It is not easy to say which genre
works the best in this situation; however the primary genre is more effective because
it is well organized, presents facts, and includes details.
The primary genre is the blog article from the online newspaper. The author of this
article argues that there are many reasons why the crisis in Ukraine happened and
that there are many sides to the story. However, he highlights two major views. One
view is that Ukrainians got tired of the authoritative pro Russian corrupt president
and decided to fight for their freedom and democracy by supporting the idea of
entering the European Union. The other view is that the whole problem in Ukraine
is not the president himself, it is his origin. The president is from the East of
Ukraine, which is a Russian speaking part of the country that does not want to be
part of the European Union and is happy to be part of the pro Russian trade union.
However, many western bloggers and media present only one side of the story,
ignoring a big population
Essay on Data Forcasting Spreadsheet
1. PURPOSE OF THE DATA
In this spread sheet the purpose of the data was to show the forecast of Humber
Computing Solutions for the period of one year for three different services
/products. The data represents the income from each product/service and total
income and the same for expenditures. There is also a section that shows the
amount of hours clients had issues with products/services and what was offered
back to them as a way of compensation for any income they could have lost to no
fault of their own. The data was supposed to be easy to read and understand by
whoever was using the data sheet the graphs and charts were well displayed on their
own pages rather than having them all squashed to fit one page.

There are seven graphs in this data sheet and each one represents something
different the graphs were created in contrasting colours to make them easier to read.
Clicking on the incomings link at the top of the page takes the user to one graph
that represents the data of total monthly incomings on a month by month basis
which is a blue and white colour line graph. On the same page there is a black and
blue coloured graph which data represents the growth in storage incomings over the
year. The next set of graphs is on the expenditures page the first graph indicates the
cost in wages monthly to be paid to a project manager to run the contract this is
shown in a black and multi coloured 3D stacked type graph. The next graph on the
page is an area graph that is black and multi coloured and illustrates the maintenance
costs for the three products/services being sold, there is also a piece of smart art that
was used to show the total years income and expenditures on a balance scale with
income outweighing the expenditures.

Thomas Keller Research Paper
Chef of all Chefs: Thomas Keller
Thomas Keller is the one and only American chef to receive more than one three star
rating from the Michelin Guide. Keller has numerous awards and recognitions for
his talent within the food world. He is not only an amazing chef, but he is a
revolutionary one. Keller says his cooking style is an evolutionary process in that it is
always growing and changing much like the world. Thomas Keller is a very, very
successful chef given that he didn t attend any special, high priced culinary schools
to learn what he knows or get to where he is now compared to the countless number
of people that do go to culinary school and don t get much farther. Keller has opened

He later began cooking at the same restaurant. Further down the line, in
Narragansett, Rhode Island he took on the job of working at The Dunes Club for
Roland Henin. Henin said he had originally hired Keller to prepare meals for the
staff, who were often the daughters and sons of the members of the club. Henin
also mentioned that the staff stopped their incessant whining, or as Henin said
bitching , a few days after Keller was hired as staff chef. Keller was able to gain
approval with attention and care in detail. He cooked with an emotion that just
screamed love for his work. That landed him his upgrade to night saucier, which is
right under sous chef. Becoming night saucier led him to learning the
fundamentals of classic cooking. Keller mentions that this was a turning point in
his career, he became very serious about cooking. Keller describes that Henin
taught him how the great cooks operated and that their job also requires the
nurturing of people. Keller went on to work for various establishments in Florida
and New York. He then decided it was time to move to Paris in 1983, where he
worked for various Michelin starred restaurants such as Guy Savoy. He returned to
New York a short time later to La Reserve which gained him critical attention as chef
de cuisine. He then cofounded a restaurant with Serge Raoul

The Movie Cool Hand Luke
The movie Cool Hand Luke, has ethical and moral dilemmas that encourage the
audience to delve deeper into the roles that ethics and morals play in society today.
There are ethical and moral dilemmas that the characters face and for that historical
and social time period there were viable solutions. There are moral values that guide
the characters and historical experiences that shaped them. After a brief summary I
will show two moral dilemmas, their outcome and alternatives. Also relating the
dilemmas to articles by Selective Moral Disengagement in the Exercise of Moral

main characters, Luke, Dragline, Boss Godfrey, Boss Paul, and Boss Shorty. Luke is

is at the prison he sees Dragline, is the leader and the other prisoners relent to his
supposed authority. Luke and Dragline have a boxing match because Luke doesn t

Mercutio s Death In Romeo And Juliet
The tragic romance of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare stages the death
of a pair of star crossed lovers that puts an end to the feud between the two houses.
However, there are much more deaths in the play other than Romeo and Juliet. The
destiny of the play together with the clue of many deaths are both present in the
prologue before Act 1, From ancient grudge break to new mutiny, where civil blood
makes civil hands unclean. this line suggests to the audience that there will be
blood shed in the play ahead, giving clue to the many deaths. Also, the destiny of
the play has also been spelt out in the prologue, From forth the fatal loins of these

If Tybalt, the learned swordsman missed had that final thrust simply because
Mercutio saw through his moves, the play would have developed differently.
Firstly, it is evident from Act 2, Scene 3 when Benvolio asked Mercutio about
Tybalt, Mercutio replied He fights as you sing prick song, keeps time, distance,
and proportion. He rests his minim rests one, two, and the third in your bosom. ,
this shows that Mercutio understands the way trained swordsman fight. As a result,
Mercutio has the ability to walk out of the fight unharmed, and in the twist of fate,
Tybalt is instead killed by Mercutio. Consequently, Mercutio will flee the crime
scene as Romeo did in the original play. When Prince Escalus arrives, it is only
natural for him to investigate by asking for the person whom started the fight,
undeniably Tybalt himself was the one whom started the fight, thus, is punishable
by death. We also know that Prince Escalus love Mercutio very much from Act 3,
Scene 1 I ll amerce you with so strong a fine that you shall all repent the loss of
mine. Therefore, it is likely for Prince Escalus to put the blame on the dead Tybalt for
starting the fight and by the same argument Montague used in Act 1, Scene 3 His
fault concludes but what the law should end, the life of Tybalt. Thereby announcing
the exile of Mercutio in attempt to save Mercutio s life. However, Romeo in this
situation does not face direct consequence
Codifying Conventions and Royal Prerogatives Essay
Dicey named conventions the non legal rules that regulate the way legal rules are
applied . Prerogative powers are legal powers held by the crown but exercised by
government without the authority from parliament. There is no doubt about their
importance to the British constitution but their unwritten nature has caused disputes
regarding their extent. Therefore some believe that conventions and prerogative
powers should be codified. This could be in legal or non legal form. Codification
might clarify their existence and extent; neither form however will generate a more
effective constitution.
There are no legal consequences if a convention is breached. Courts may only
recognize their existence but cannot enforce their principles. There ... Show more

Parliament can however override and replace the prerogative by statute e.g. The
Fixed term Parliaments Act 2011. The Courts are capable of judicial reviewof these
powers as was held unanimously in the GCHQ case. Only prerogative acts, which
don t involve high policy best determined by the executives will be reviewed.
Since these implementations are in place it is unnecessary to codify prerogative
powers. Any form of codification would only capture the situation at that fixed
moment. The British constitution is constantly evolving and by nature does not
allow for rigidity.
If they were codified in statutory form, they would no longer exist. Not only is it
difficult to determine their exact extent but the flexibility they provide would be
lost. Flexibility would also be lost if codifications were in a non legal form.
The codification of conventions or prerogative powers is not only in paradox with
their own definition and nature but is also unnecessary since obedience of the rules
would not become any more enforceable
The British constitution is flexible in nature, which has allowed for the development
of this country over centuries without the need for a fully codified constitution. I
Food Insecurity Is A Serious Global Problem
Food Insecurity
There are lots of people living in the safe environment, being high educated and
enjoying rich foods. However, more than 5.5 million children are dying of
malnutrition related causes each year (Sanchez and Swaminathan, 2005).
According to FAO (2013,pp8 15) most recent estimates indicate that. globally,842
million people 12 percent of the global population were unable to meet their
dietary energy requirements in 2011 2013, down from 868 million reported for the
2010 2012 period in last year s report. Thus, around one in eight people in the world
are likely have suffered from chronic hunger, not having enough food for an active
and healthy life. The vast majority of hungry people 827 million of them live in
developing regions, where the prevalence of undernourishment is estimated now at
14.3 percent in 2011 2013. Currently, the food insecurity still is a serious global
problem. Especially for developing countries, there are some countries has been

A Clockwork Orange Dialectical Journal Essay
A Clockwork Orange
Journal 1: pages 3 56 I found the first section of the novel, A Clockwork Orange by
Anthony Burgess to be confusing, but at the same time interesting. Burgess ideas
were organized and thorough in each chapter. The use of foreshadowing was used
at the end of the first chapter implying violent acts throughout the rest of the
section. The constant use of slang called, Nadsat threw off my focus while reading
due to the distraction of flipping back and forth from the glossary back to the novel.
Burgess uses the slang to alienate what is occurring in the novel, especially the
brutality of it. I noticed that even though horrendous events are described I did not
stop reading because the use of slang kept me interested like ... Show more content on

Sonographer Patient Interactions in the Health Care Field
The profession of sonography has been around for over thirteen years; however, if
one were to ask the average American what the occupation of a Sonographer entitled,
there would likely be a wide range of answers. When most individuals hear the word

would one put the profession of sonography with other aspects of Health Care such as

history that could be in relation to the diagnostic ultrasound procedure. It is the

to use interviewing techniques to gather any and all relevant information from the

the patient s identity and family/medical history, but also it is important for the

preparation for the procedure, any medications that the patient may currently be

Loyalty In Beowulf
When studying from different cultures and ethnicities, many ideas are developed, in
the human brain. We start seeing what different cultures believe in and value. The
Anglo Saxons were a tribal group that valued loyalty, riches/power, and selflessness.
However, values are not only valued throughout the Anglo Saxon but also through the
human lives when examining the cultureof oneself and surrounding peers. In the
reading Beowulf, conserved by Burton Raffel, one can learn that in this Anglo
Saxon tribe believe heavily in loyalty. Beowulf shows loyalty to his people by
presenting his loyalty to the king. Beowulf one the strongest of the Geats heard
about Grendel and his evilness and wanted to take action to put a stop to him.
Heard how Grendel filled nights with horror, And quickly commanded a boat fitted
out (Raffel 23) Beowulf noting that his people needed protection from the evilness
of Grendel he immediately set out to go fight and show his loyalty to them by
battling with Grendel. Setting out to sail across the sea to meet with the King
Hrothgar when help was needed and fighting evilness protecting his people is a vast
way Beowulf represents his loyalty. Risking his own life to protect his king, even if

him for those visits (Raffel 38) Now that Beowulf killed both Grendel and Grendel s

NOW Women s Rights
Women have always had to deal with issues of inequality compared to their male
counterparts. Individually, the struggle to overcome this mountain has been a
daunting task, a road riddled with obstacles and disappointments at every turn.
Through time, it has become clear that achieving the goal of equality would only
be possible if voices were joined for a common chorus, echoing their struggles,
dreams and aspirations. This need for unity of voices has led to the formation of
organizations to advocate for the rights of women. Each organization may use
different approaches to bring the issues to the table, which will result in some being
more radical than others. Just as Martin Luther King and Malcom X were radically

Rene Robert Cavelier As A Jesuit
RenГ© Robert Cavelier was born November 21, 1643, in Rouen, France. From a
young age, Cavalier went to school to study to be a Jesuit. In 1660, at the age of 17,
he enrolled in CollГ©ge Henri IV, a Jesuit school near Angers, to further his studies.
In 1663, King Louis XIV (14) declares New France (present day Canada) a French
Province, and La Salle seizes his chance. A few years later, at 22, La Salle left his
religious training in search of a valid exploit to add to his name. He sailed to New
France on behalf of the French government in 1667 and took the name of his family

Ontario, near the Niagara River. The construction lasted until 1675. At the end of

1677, La Salle won approval from the king for an expedition to search for the origin
of the Mississippi River, somewhere between Florida, Texas, and New France; his
actual intent was to trade with the Indians more directly and colonize the Illinois
Valley. The preparation for this trip lasts two years. In late 1679, the expedition set
off on the Griffin s maiden voyage with a crew of 32, La Salle, and La Salle s
father. The expedition stalled on the St. Joseph River near present day Peoria,
Illinois, where plans to build new fort arise. La Salle disembarked again on foot to
Fort Frontenac to get help with building the fort ( the fort is to be named Fort
CrГ©veccoeur). A few weeks later, he arrives at Fort Frontenac and asks the
whereabouts of his ship, the Griffin. La Salle learned that on his ship s return from
Green Bay, Wisconsin, the ship and its crew stopped in either Washington or Rock
Island it and then vanished with all six remaining crew members and a load of
furs. From 1681 to 1682, La Salle planned a second trip that reached the mouth of
the Mississippi and claimed it in the name of Louis XIV. In 1683, La Salle returned
to France to trick the king into
Year Round School Year Research Paper
Have you ever thought of what it would be like to have a year round school year,
as oppose to having one long summer break. Before you go denouncing the idea,
put some thought into it. Now the first problem with a 12 month school year is that,
as you may think, you have many more days of school. Well this is commenly
believed to be fact, it is not. Much less known about a year long schoolyear is that
summer break is split up into a short break every few months, so their is still the
same amount of days, just in a longer timeframe. Secondly, we students know that
we work hard, and I mean hard, in school. What if I told you that over summer
break you lose, on average, ONE ENTIRE MONTH of knowledge. With a 12 month

  • 2. Societal Injustices Upon Women Yagulan Srikumar Mrs. JostAP Literature6 November 2017 Societal Injustices Upon Women Human rights are women s rights, and women s rights are human rights (Hillary Clinton). This is a very important message that can be applied throughout history to prove the significance of women during time periods in which they were viewed as substantially lesser than men. Over the years, women have grown independent, fighting for their rights, changing the gender norms placed on society and the expectations women are forced to uphold. To successfully do this, women have evolved their mindset on how life should run to accommodate for gender equality. This evolution in the mindset of women is the ... She faked being a part of society and was becoming herself and daily casting aside that fictitious self which we assume like a garment with which to appear before the world (Chopin 108). Although she despised society itself, she couldn t leave at first due to all the material and emotional tethers she had to the world, such as her kids, her husband, her estate. Later on however, she slowly started to detach herself from these tethers. Edna also gets the advice at one point that, The bird that would soar above the level plain of tradition and prejudice must have strong wings. It is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back to earth. (Chopin 138). The passage proves exactly how hard it is for a woman to be independent. Any man can soar, regardless of how weak his wings are, yet for a woman, she must have the wit of a hawk and the strength of an eagle to truly soar past society and its stereotypes. This also proves a great example of imagery s effect as the analogy to the bird and the descriptive words such as soar and prejudice induce the reader to imagine an image in which this is occurring, the adjectives and the romantic style of literature aiding in the vision that is created. In The House on Mango Street , Esperanza is often objectified and is viewed as

Hendrix s ability to perform guitar solos categorized by perplexing whammy bar use gave The Star Spangled Banner a sense of distortion of both time and direction. The most controversial nature of his style is characterized by the shrill and lurid sounds he manufactured from his guitar as they were complemented by the sounds of gunfire, screams, and bombs (Owen). However, his intentions were morally just and noble by simply playing a patriotic song for the soldiers risking their lives for the American people in Vietnam. He incorporates his artistic side as a musician by including sounds of war, barrage of gunfire, and bombs that American soldier face with the use of the whammy bar. From the beginning, Hendrix s basics of playing were completely different from everyone else; he did not play with the C Major Chord like many guitarists would, instead he did it outside the box (Jones). Hendix also used the wah wah pedal regularly, a feature that made him distinctive from all other musicians and guitar players (Leonard). • 5. Masking Poor Communication Essay Lanita N. Clark Masking Poor Communication COM 200 Mrs. Mary A. Witt August 22, 2011 The article Masking Poor Communication discussed how miscommunication is misunderstood and perceived as something. What someone is saying can easily be taken for something else. Everyone has their own perception. This can have a negative impact on the people who are close to you. In the article it stated that people commonly believe that they communicate better with close friends than strangers. This closeness can lead people to overestimate how well they communicate, a phenomenon we term the closeness communication bias ( Keysar, 2011). Miscommunication is normal in the world and is happening everyday. I think that I can avoid miscommunicating with my significant other by being upfront if I m unsure about something. If you admit when you re wrong that can have a positive impact on the communication skills. Listening to exactly what is being said and compromising allows for both parties to be happy and content with the out come. Talking and not arguing when trying to work the problem out is another way you can avoid miscommunication. Interpersonal communication is an important component of building and maintaining these relationships (Sole, 2011). This communication helps us meet needs for belonging and for acceptance and enables us to share values and principles, which are the foundation of human society (Sole. 2011). A person has to identify their weakness to help improve and fix the problem. Communication affects a person as a whole. It makes them second guess what type of person they really are. How would you feel if you were unable to express yourself? In conclusion, Communication can go a long way on both ends. Every individual will have their own perception of what is being discussed. Say what s on your mind. If you re unsure about something, ask questions to get a better understanding. No one is a mind reader and just because someone is close to you doesn t mean they know what you mean every time you speak. Reference
  • 6. A Brief Note On Labor And Leisure Katy Miller Labour and Leisure essay two Women and Labour: The changing roles in our working society through a lens. It s hard to believe in this day and age with so many opportunities for woman to become successful in a carer and contribute to the working society that before the First World War only ninety years ago marriage meant the end of that chance for so many young people. By looking at both short films and film depictions, I want to show the journey of how the Labour industry has changed from being a majority lead male dominated working environment with the social status for woman changing from those who are either unmarried or in poor lower class families in domestic feminine held jobs, to those of married woman, in a well to do family made to give up chances of education and carer for themselves, married off to become leisurely ladies of the house and made to stay home with the children while there husband became the sole earner. Regardless of her social status, most woman surrendered her rights from the day she married but if on the off chance she was able to work in one of these domestic arenas such as the textile and clothing industry the jobs would have been of little satisfaction and that of a low wage. This was to be true of a time in Victorian England, but in 1895 French director Louis Lumiбє»re created a short black and white silent documentary that showed a single screen of French workers in Lyon leaving the Lumiбє»re factory called Workers

Irony In The Elements Of Southern Gothic Literature John asks Brian, You re beginning to figure it out now, aren t you? after spending time together writing a piece of southern gothic literature, which turns out to become a piece of more contemporary southern gothic literature. Stown is a piece of contemporary Southern Gothic Literature because of the elements of irony, outsiders, and social issues. Irony is a very important characteristic of southern gothic literature. In 1917, the company opened its first bookstore in New York City. However, in 1974, the company fell on hard times and was bought by Leonard Riggio. Barnes Noble eventually become the largest bookstore by 1996, offering discounted books. By the late 1990s, Barnes Noble was faced with a new challenge, the Internet; customers were able to order their books cheaper online and read them without going to a physical bookstore. This forced Barnes Noble to reevaluate its strategy and its future direction in order to stay competitive in the bookstore industry. Barnes Noble narrowed its problems down into two major issues. The first issue was whether or not the company should split its two business lines, having one line for digital and online business and the other serve as the more traditional brick and mortar stores. The company also needed to determine the best way to allocate its resources so that it could compete aggressively in the market. The second issue facing the company was whether it was well suited to make these necessary changes independently or if it would need some allies in order to achieve success. Because Barnes Noble was strictly a publisher and retailer, the company didn t have the knowledge or experience to independently build an e reader for the online market that could compete effectively; it needed to partner with another company that could build a

  • 14. Madness And Madness In Hamlet In Act 3 Scene 4, as a result of Hamlet s rash and reactive thoughts, he Kills Polonius . This act articulates Hamlet s madness in his seemingly dismissive response to his murder of Polonius and the contemptuous treatment of his body. Hamlet through characterisation dehumanises Polonius as merely a wretched, rash, intruding fool who he will lug the guts [of which] into the neighbour room . Ultimately, Shakespeare characterises Hamletas mad through his lack of remorse over his murder of Polonius. In these Scene, Hamlet s madness is further conveyed in his verbal engagement with his father s ghost to which Gertrude describes as a Nothing at all, yet all that is I see...This the very coinage of your brain/ This bodiless creation ecstasy . As Hamlet engages with an apparent projection of his mind, the contrast between Hamlet and Gertrude as she fails to see the Ghost, along with the connotations of hallucinogenic ecstasy, creates an image of Hamlet s madness. • 15. Once And Future King Theme The Once and Future King The Once and Future King was an interesting book to say the least. There were many themes I noticed throughout the novel. Each book in the novel told of a different theme, which gave the novel its appeal. The Once and Future King has many themes that all come together to tell of a great tale. One major theme I noticed in book one was the theme of learning. Wart was a young boy that did a lot of things. He also made a lot of mistakes and sometimes didn t follow instructions. It was important for him to learn because the land would soon be his. He also was taught mathematics and chivalry, as this very important at that time. Most kids grew up and became knights. Learning is the only way to go if you expect to become king. Wart is young now and has a lot to learn as he will soon become King Arthur. Learning to me is important, as it is the only way to progress in life. It was best that Wart learned at a young age. Another major theme in book one was the theme of pursuit. Pursuit was shown in many ways in book one also. Wart went out hawking, which led to many new discoveries. Arthur followed the hawk deep into the forest. He was chasing the hawk, but soon got sidetracked. These sequence of events led him to meeting King Pellinore. The king is troubled too and eventually runs... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jennifer is one of those people. What appeal do cigarettes have that cause people to ignore this very important warning? It is also publicly known how addicting smokingis. Why do people decide to chain themselves to this dangerous habit, and more importantly, how can these chains be broken? People try quitting every day. Some are successful, some are not. Jennifer is also one of these people who want to quit. With hopes of realizing why she decided to start smoking, why she continues to smoke, and the real risks involved in her and her family s lives, she hopes to find a solution to help her break the chains of smoking for good. Jennifer came from a family of smokers. She was born to a mother and father who smoked. Her grandparents, aunts and uncles were also smokers. Female family members would stop by and spend their time drinking coffee and smoking in the kitchen while chatting. When Jennifer was very young, she would ride with her dad to store and when he bought cigarettes he would buy her a pack of candy cigarettes. Today this sounds horrible, but being born in the early 1980 s this was common. Ashtrays were placed all over the home (even make in art classes for parents as gifts), parents smoked with their children in their cars, people smoked in restaurants, and at designated smoking areas inside the mall. Being raised and surrounded by smokers, Jennifer trusted their judgement. And when she was offered her first cigarette, she really did not hesitate to try it. When Jennifer was fourteen, she was offered her first cigarette by one of her siblings. Even though it made her feel sick, she continued smoking it. The act of smoking felt natural to her, possible because of the pretend play of smoking when she was younger. And while her family did not allow her to smoke as a minor, it was not hard to hide her new habit smokers cannot usually smell cigarette smoke. Her friends also started smoking around the same time, so socially it was accepted in her group. It became a daily part of her life and has continued to be for the last twenty years. Times

During this time, which is characterised as the late Classical Period, society underwent many socio political changes, such as the French Revolution. It is most well known for its connection with the historical figure Napoleon Bonaparte, who was a primary leader of the French Revolution and First Consul of the state at the time. Being a revolutionary himself, Beethoven held Bonaparte in high regard, and dedicated Symphony No. 3 to him, with the initial title Sinfonia Bonaparte . However, later in 1804, Bonaparte declared himself Emperor of France, and upon hearing this, Beethoven flew into a rage, [...] took hold of the title page at the top, ripped it all the way through, and flung it on the floor (Sipe, 31 ). Only then did he rename the work Sinfonia Eroica , or Heroic Symphony . Thus, it is apparent through the initial title of Sinfonia Bonaparte , that the composition of this piece was primarily influenced by Beethoven s political convictions of the revolution, and his great admiration for the man who appeared to be its leader. We can also see that the sudden destruction of the cover page of the symphony and the abrupt title change was due to the sudden betrayal by Bonaparte, and this shows us the intensity of Beethoven s feelings of rage as his homage was turned into disillusionment when Bonaparte crowned himself Emperor and altered politics in France

Bernoulli resolved the paradox by postulating that people do not make choices based on the expected rewards alone, but rather based on the value or pleasure that each individual pay off is likely to yield to them. He said The determination of the value of an item must not be based on the price, but rather on the utility it yields.... There is no doubt that a gain of one thousand ducats is more significant to the pauper than to a rich man though both gain the same amount. He suggested there was a function U(w) (called a utility function) which describes the amount of value or utility that the individual gains by having an amount of wealth w. Rational individuals prefer more money to less money, so U(w) is increasing, but the incremental value of more wealth decreases as one becomes wealthier (decreasing marginal utility or value of wealth) so U(w) is concave. Bernoulli stated that people determined how much to pay for the game or gamble not based on the gamble s expected value but rather it s expected utility. Thus, if x1, x2, ..., xn are the possible outcomes of an uncertain economic endeavor or gamble, and their probabilities of occurrence are p1, p2, ..., pn then a decision maker with an initial wealth of W would make decisions based on their expected utility of their final wealth, U(W+x1)*p1 + U(W+x2)*p2 +...+ U(W+xn)*pn. Using this approach, one can predict preferences between two uncertain events by

He is an elder of the Phoenix Reformed Baptist Church, has been married to his wife Kelli for more than thirty two years, and has two children and two grandchildren. White s work is a very profound book that talks about the controversy in some churches about the best translationto use: modern translations or the King James translation. He fought against the idea of some that the King James Version is the only true Bible. He did an excellent job defending his own views while pointing out the errors of these groups. Summary of the Book The first chapter puts the King James Version Only groups on a spectrum. The least troublesome just prefer the sound of the language of the KJV to other translations. It is understandable that everyone favors certain translations over others, his preference for these two translations is quiet obvious throughout the book. However, for the purpose of this book, this preference made him fail to provide a more neutral understanding of the principles he wrote about. Actually, his favoritism towards these translations went against his own words, But we must be careful to avoid making the basic error of setting up one translation as the standard over all others (169). The author would have better demonstrated this principle by using more than just two translations in a comparison against the KJV

Comparing The Australian And Indonesian Economy Transcript: Comparison of the Australian and Indonesian economy Australian living standards are higher than Indonesia s, this is a result of Australia maintaining higher economic performance through superior economic indicators. Australia s economic indicators reflect a mature and relatively stable economic growth with a population 1/10th of Indonesia s, in comparison, Indonesia s economy reflects a growing developing economy. Indonesia s economic trends are improving at a rapid rate and if this trend continues, Indonesia could have in the mid to long term superior economic growth and thus higher living standards than Australia. In Figure 2 it is evident that Indonesia s cost of living, as reflected by the CPI, has been significantly deteriorating over the last 8 years. Although research argues that CPI may not be an effective indicator of the cost of living for a developing country such as Indonesia (East Asia, 2015). In contrast measuring the percentage of a household budget that goes to food is could be a good indicator. Since 2000, the percentage of household budget spent on food has declined, meaning higher expenditure on discretionary goods and services. This indicates that Indonesia s urban regions are getting richer faster than the impression expressed with the CPI (East Asia, 2015). This is also reflected in figure 1, as the significant increase of mobile phone subscriptions is a good proxy of increased living standards as a mobile phone is a discretionary living cost. This is a result of the Indonesian growth rate earning a higher level of surplus income to spend on more luxury items. Figure 1, Australia s GDP growth (The World Bank, 2016) Figure 2, Australia and Indonesia s GDP and CPI, (The World Bank, 2016) As you can see in figure 2, the Indonesian GDP grew 144% from 2006, in monetary value this equates to $364 Billion to

In this assignment, our task was to find a published piece of work and change its genre drastically. Then we had to analyze which genre is the best for presenting the information that we have. The topic that my partner and I chose was about the Ukrainian crisis. The primary genre is a blogpost from The Washington Postand the secondary genre is a poem. It is not easy to say which genre works the best in this situation; however the primary genre is more effective because it is well organized, presents facts, and includes details. The primary genre is the blog article from the online newspaper. The author of this article argues that there are many reasons why the crisis in Ukraine happened and that there are many sides to the story. However, he highlights two major views. One view is that Ukrainians got tired of the authoritative pro Russian corrupt president and decided to fight for their freedom and democracy by supporting the idea of entering the European Union. The other view is that the whole problem in Ukraine is not the president himself, it is his origin. The president is from the East of Ukraine, which is a Russian speaking part of the country that does not want to be part of the European Union and is happy to be part of the pro Russian trade union. However, many western bloggers and media present only one side of the story, ignoring a big population

Prerogative powers are legal powers held by the crown but exercised by government without the authority from parliament. Therefore some believe that conventions and prerogative powers should be codified. This could be in legal or non legal form. The Courts are capable of judicial reviewof these powers as was held unanimously in the GCHQ case. Any form of codification would only capture the situation at that fixed moment. The British constitution is constantly evolving and by nature does not allow for rigidity. If they were codified in statutory form, they would no longer exist. Not only is it difficult to determine their exact extent but the flexibility they provide would be lost. Flexibility would also be lost if codifications were in a non legal form.
