The Apollonian nature of the human seeks to express itself through representations
and illusions (such as art), which was regarded as vulgar to the Puritans. The
Dionysian seeks to express itself through the performing arts (such as song or dance)
(Foster 63 64). This was seen as sinful (one may recall the Salem witch hunt was
started when children were caught dancing in the woods). Brown, growing up
Puritan, would have had both of these basic human instincts suppressed. This suggests
that something must have brought forth the need for these instincts to express
themselves.

population has recorded having a sleep parasomnia, most of them being young
children or adolescents. Parasomnias range from very common disorders such as
sleepwalking, to a few some may have never heard of, for instance: sleep paralysis.
Sleep parasomnias are disorders characterized by abnormal or unusual behavior of
the nervous system during that occur during non rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep
or rapid eye movement (REM) sleep (Parasomnias). NREM sleep (also referred to as
slow wave sleep) contains more common parasomnias that involve the stimulation of
the autonomic nervous system, motor system, or cognitive processes. Sleep disorders

The author, Leslie Fiedler writes about the differences in what it means to be
normal. She discusses this in a professional manner that opens eyes to what we
have disguised and even been ashamed of. The Tyranny of the Normal, we learn
much about what we perceive as abnormal and what society seems to portray
normal as. We discover what we believe is normal and also what has changed
through out the history of this subject. Our minds are opened and exposed to the

In an attempt to make her life seem more important and extravagant than it really is,
one can understand furthermore Brill s pathetic nature. This defines Brill s character

from the way they stared they looked as though they d just come from dark little

distances herself from them as though different when in fact she too is old and

the shabby ermine, and her hand, in its cleaned glove, lifted to dab her lips, was a

Whether the term Moor had a definition of white or black, of pagan or Muslim
religion, or area of origin seems to be interchangeable when one notes the differences
