Gettysburg Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of Gettysburg can be quite challenging due to the historical
significance and complexity of the subject matter. The Battle of Gettysburg, fought during the
American Civil War, holds immense importance in shaping the course of the nation's history.
Composing an essay on this topic requires a deep understanding of the events leading up to the
battle, the strategies employed by the opposing forces, and the profound impact it had on the
outcome of the war.
The difficulty arises from the need to synthesize a vast amount of information, analyze historical
documents, and present a coherent narrative that captures the essence of the battle and its
aftermath. Crafting a compelling thesis statement and supporting it with well-researched
evidence demands a keen eye for detail and a thorough examination of primary and secondary
sources. Additionally, the essay should not only provide a chronological account but also offer
insights into the broader implications of the Battle of Gettysburg on the nation's trajectory.
Moreover, the challenge lies in presenting the information in a way that engages the reader and
communicates the gravity of the historical events. Striking the right balance between factual
accuracy and engaging prose is crucial to ensure that the essay is both informative and
captivating.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of Gettysburg requires a comprehensive
understanding of historical events, critical analysis skills, and the ability to communicate
complex ideas effectively. It's a task that demands dedication, research prowess, and a

Holmes And Watson s Dichotomy
A common trope seen in the detective genre is the dichotomy between the detective
and their companion. While the detective normally serves as the primary character
and voice of reason within the novel, their companion acts as a contrasting character
and is often the story s narrator. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s A Study in Scarlet
redefines
the necessity of a companion for the detective. In analyzing the relationship between
Sherlock Holmesand Dr. John Watson, it is evident that their relationship is mutually
beneficial. Although Doyle highlights the differences between the two men, he also
demonstrates the important role that each man plays in the other s life. Sherlock
serves as a companion and motivation for John, while he assists Sherlock... Show

The novel begins with a description of his near death experiences and subsequent
arrival in London. Lonely and weakened from his time in Afghanistan, Watson is
eager for companionship and finds it in Sherlock Holmes. Living with Holmes
provides him with something to focus on, as he tells the reader this man stimulated
my curiosity, and how often I endeavored to break through the reticence which he
showed on all that concerned himself, (Doyle 16). His friendship with Sherlock not
only gives him companionship, but it also provides a sense of purpose when he
invites Watson to the crime scene of Enoch Drebber.
Watson and Sherlock s reaction to the murder are drastically different. While
Sherlock is described as hearing the news the crime scene calmly, Watson cries Why
this is terrible, (26). While Sherlock looks at the crime objectively, Watson provides
the emotional response. Watson s emotional response drives him to help Sherlock
with the case, as he realizes that justice must be done, and that the depravity of the
victim was no condonement in the eyes of the law, (43). John s emotional response
balances out Sherlock s calm, business like approach and together, the two of them
create a balanced
Police Power In Achieving Justice In The Law
Enforcement...
The criminal justice system is effective in achieving justice, in relations to police
power and authority. Police are tasked with an essential role in protecting and
enforcing the law. They are a critical aspect towards the criminal justice system and
the criminal investigation process. To assist their role to the community, they ve
been provided several types of powers and authorities to achieve their duties towards
the community. These authorised powers are used to stop, search and detain a person
when they re certain a crimeis committed. Consequently, policecan use this authority
to potentially violate another individuals right, such as privacy. Whilst this power
allows police to fulfil their duty to the community, is that justifiable to violate an
individuals right?
Police makes the decision whether to investigate a crime based on the likelihood
of success, available resources and priorities or the severity of the offence. Police
can use several methods and authorised powers to assist their investigation. Most of
NSW Police s powers are listed out in the Law Enforcement (Powers and
Responsibilities) Act 2002 (NSW). Law Enforcement (Powers and Responsibilities)
Act 2002 (NSW) is an act introduced in 2001, which outlines police powers and
authority. Main police powers in investigating crime are: arrest, search and seizure,
access to information (computerised operation policing system), interrogation and use

Prostate Carcinogenesis Essay
Biology Colloquium 595 (09/22/2014): ER plus AR mediated effects and estrogen
genotoxicity are all required in combination to induce prostate cancer by Dr. Bosland.
Prostate Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S and is responsible for
10% of the death in men because of cancer. Dr. Maarten C.Bosland at UIC
(University of Illinois at Chicago) spoke about his study of prostate carcinogenesis on
rats and deduced a working hypothesis which might help pinpointing the main cause
of this cancer. He based his study on the fact that castration and estrogen treatment
can lead to regression of prostate cancer and went on to explain the importance of
Testosterone and its relation with the androgen and estrogen receptor in context with
the size of prostate gland and thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dr Bosland presented his hypothesis saying only hormones could not be solely
responsible for the cause of carcinogenesis but that other factors or rather a
combination of several factors induce prostate carcinogenesis. After performing
several studies on rats, his team and he stated a hypothesis that testosterone in the
presence of DHT (5 alpha reductase) acted on the Androgen receptor and even
CYP19 (aromatase) acted on testosterone and became the estrogen receptor. They
also observed that the estrogen receptor lead to a series of apurinic changes that
lead to mutations in the DNA and thus chemical carcinogenesis as a result of DNA
damage. The team further on combined the two hypothesis and came to the
conclusion that a mechanism of estradiol genotoxicity might even be involved in
establishing the cancer as a redox cycling of enzymatic reactions were observed
which lead to the production of superoxide oxygen and Quinone these acted as DNA
adducts and are responsible for oxidative DNA damage. They are still working on

The National Basketball Association ( Nba )
The National Basketball Association (NBA) was founded on June 6, 1949 in New
York City and has exploded today to become one of the most popular professional
sports leagues in the world, next to the National Football League(NFL). There are a
total of 30 teams in the NBA, each worth about $1.25 billion, making the whole
league worth about $37.5 billion. The mastermind behind the NBA s huge profits are
the white collared team owners who watch over the respected team franchises for
years. In the past, NBA team owners have been caught up in scandals that have
created stereotypes and misconseptions among fans that paint the owners as money
hungry individuals who give no respect for their blue collared players in the league.
The NBA cutting ties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Misconseptions on the other hand, are derived from stereotypes of a group that
have no origin for the misconseption. Misconseptions are unfounded assumptions a
person does or has because he or she is in the group. For example, in the 1990 s at
the height of the AIDS/HIV scare, it was believed homosexuals are more likely to
contract the virus than heterosexuals. The misconseptoion has no basis or any study
to back it up and future studies proved that everyone is at equal risk to contract the
virus during unprotected sex, which ended the misconseption.
Now that stereotypes and misonceptions are understood, it s time to switch gears to
discuss NBA team owners. I have been watching the NBA since 2013, watching my
favorite team while not having a single thought about the higher ups of NBA teams.
But my view changed quickly in 2014, similar to many other fans, when the Donald
Sterling Scandal occurred. Donald Sterling was the former owner of the Los Angeles
Clippers whos girlfriend, V Stiviano, recorded Sterling making racist remarks. It
started off with Stiviano posting a picture with former basketball star Earving Magic
Johnson on her public Instagram. According to Thirty Mile Zone s(TMZ) online
article, TMZ exposes Sterling s disappointment with Stiviano by stating How about

Blue Collar Vs White Collar Workers

and white collar worker. It you are one of the ninth percent of Americans currently
employed, then you can probably define your job as a blue or white collar worker.

administrative, and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Typically, white collar
professionals have dress code with white button down shirt and dress slacks, and

collar workers are paid a salary, rather than an hourly wage. Furthermore, white
collar worker account for most of the cases of occupational stress two thirds of
stress involving days away from work occurred to workers in white collar
occupation. Education level is a major difference in blue collar and white collar

typically have a least a high school diploma, while most complete and associate s,
bachelors, masters or professional degree. In contrast, Blue collar workers employed
in skilled trades, such as carpentry, receive formal, vocational education, though
some blue collar workers acquire their skills on the job. Most blue collar occupation

Essay on Flood Legends From Around the World
There are flood stories from many cultures. The flood stories usually consist of a
higher power that floods a civilization due to some act that has made the higher
power angry. The stories talk about one specific family and how the flood
consumes the entire globe. So many cultures have a story about a great flood that
have many similar details that it is hard to not believe that it is not true, but
whether the story of a great flood is true or not, it is up to the individual to decide.
Judaism is religion that many Hebrews are a part of. Many Christian religions like
Catholicism also believe the same story that the Jews do about the great flood. They
believe that God had become so upset with mankind s evil ways, he wanted to... Show

He then sent out a dove that came back without anything. A week later Noah sent
the dove out again, and the dove returned with an olive branch. The next week the
dove did not return to the ark. After a year and ten days of being in the ark, Noah
and his family emerged with the animals. Noah sacrificed some of the animals to
God, and God was so pleased he vowed to never destroy all of the living creatures
with a flood again. The rainbow that appeared was like the signature to an
agreement that he would never do it again. The animals ran wild and began to
produce and God told Noah s family to repopulate the earth (Genesis 6 9).
In Greek mythology, Zeus wanted to destroy the men of the Bronze Age so he sent
a flood. He thought the people of this age were very wicked. Prometheus advised
his son Deucalion to build a chest. All other men perished except for a few who
escaped to high mountains (). After Deucalion and his wife floated in the chest for
nine days they land on Parnassus. Then, he made a sacrifice to Zeus in which he
threw stones and they became men. Then his wife threw stones and they became
women. This story focuses on one family in particular, Deucalion and his wife.
There is a great flood that wipes everyone out but them, and a great higher power,
Zeus, did this to the earth. In Roman mythology, which is very similar to Greek
mythology, there is a flood story as well.
Essay On The Birmingham Bombing
Since Sunday September 15, 1963, Birmingham received its nickname
Bombingham. Many people would think that a church, a place of God, would be
the last place to be blown to pieces. Four people lost their lives the day of the
bombing. The enemy didn t seem to care about the people inside but the color of their
skin. The Birmingham church bombing also brought influential people, major details
surrounding the crisis, a difference in society, and a change in history.
The Birmingham bombing consisted of more than criminals and victims. There were
influential people that had a major part in this time of history. The most influential
person was Martin Luther King Jr. After he learned about the bombing, he sent a
telegram to the governor of Alabama. In this telegram, Dr. King said The blood of
our little children are on your hands. Martin Luther King Jr. held a segregational
protest in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. King was arrested and put in jail and was told
not to protest. He wrote his famous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The civil rights movement was made up of many tragic and inspiring tasks that made
our history that we know of today. The church bombing shocked the nation and led to
large protests that would help the race controversy start to decrease. The outrage over
the death of the little girls helped build an increased amount of support that would
help the struggle of segregation. Without the bombing, the Civil Rights Act of 1964
and the Voting Rights Actof 1965 would not have been as easy to get without the
tragedy of the church bombing. Our history was changed because a tragedy like the
bombing was the biggest opportunities to show America that a change needed to be
made. Crowds of people joined protest and were influenced by Martin Luther King
Jr. No one knows how our history would have been without the bombing, but the
passage that would lead the blacks to their rights, that every human should possess,

has plans to file a lawsuit against his sister Kim. It is obvious that Kim has more
money than Rob and if he was to win it would help him out a lot, but it could also
tear apart the entire Kardashian family.

with this lawsuit against his sister or if she is against the idea of him doing this to

Relationship Between Place And Music And The Song
Inglan...
The objective of this paper is to examine the relationship between place and music
and analyze the song Inglan is a Bitch by Linton Kwesi Johnson in terms of place.
Inglan is a Bitch exemplifies the link between music and place through its lyrics and
sound. First I am going to define cultural geography and discuss how culture is
linked to place. Then I will explain local musicspaces and why music has a strong
sense of place. Next I will analyze how Inglan is a Bitch relates to place. After, I
will finish with an overall conclusion. I will be exploring these topics through the
readings of Knox and Marston, Connell and Gibson and finally, Watson, Holyer and
Mager supplemented by Lecture notes.
According to Knox and Marston, culture produces a shared set of meanings and
practices, while geography is the place in which groups shape those meanings and
practices and in the process form an identity (Knox and Marston 2016, 155). Cultural
Geography focuses on the way space, place and landscape shape culture at the same
time that culture shapes space, place, and landscape (Knox and Marston 2016, 155).
Cultural geography examines cultural traits, cultural complexes, and cultural regions.
(Rutherford 2016). It is a way to understand both landscape and human settlement
patterns (Rutherford 2016).
In the reading Sounds and Scenes, authors Connell and Gibson suggest that a local
music space is a specific place that produces a distinct sound (Connell and Gibson
2003, 90). The
Charles Baxter s The Art Of Subtext
A story is only as good as the way it is told. The way a writer uses his or her words
to say something is just as important as what they don t say. Charles Baxter, author
of plethora of books and university teacher, writes a craft book that goes deeper than
the surface of writing and deeper than the words written down. In Charles Baxter s
The Art of Subtext, he discusses how authors can use the words they do write just as
much to express what they don t write.
The first chapter, The Art of Staging claims Staging in fictioninvolves putting
characters in specific strategic positions in the scene so that some unvoiced nuance is
revealed. (Baxter 13) This includes the character s standing positions, their proximity
to each other, specific gestures and facial expressions, which give the reader more
insight to the scene and the characters without explicitly saying so. This goes hand in
hand with the setting of the atmosphere where atmosphere sets the dominant tone or
the mood of a story. The atmosphere can be in reference to the setting or the
characters themselves. Here, the reader is to read between the lines. The key to this
is using a lot of detail which is crucial to providing the information.
This is something important that I need to incorporate in my own writing. More
detail in my writing concerning the unspoken things will allow the reader to see the
evolution of the narrator s state of mind. A twitch of an eye or how close my
antagonist stands to his or her
Biofertilizer in Rice
Biofertilizers are becoming widely used in many countries and for many different
crops. Based on Paul et al., 2013 stated that biofertilizer contain free living organisms
associated with root surfaces include endophytes and microorganisms that are able to
colonize the intercellular or intracellular spaces between plant tissues without harm to
the host plant. According to Vessey, 2003 defined biofertilizer as products containing
lively or dormant strains of soilmicrobes, either bacteria or in combination with algae
or fungi that increase the availability and nutrients uptake on plant. Rice production
in Malaysia usually used high of input chemical fertilizerwhich can lead soils to be
degraded, polluted and unproductive. According to Mishra and Dash, 2014
increasingly extensive uses of chemical fertilizers in India assist soils to be degraded,
polluted, less productive and environmental hazards. Soil pollution is caused by the
excessive application of chemical fertilizers. In other words, there is much concern to
further preserve environmental through the use of less intensive and more sustainable
agricultural practices by reducing the input of chemical fertilizers. (Gomiero et
al.2011). Mishra and Dash, 2014 stated these issues can be solved by using
biofertilizers to make the ecosystem healthier. Thus, it minimize dependency of
farmer on chemical fertilizers. These biofertilizers are not harmful to crops but
facilitate the unabsorbed nutrient in soil to be

How Does Antony Use Ethos In Julius Caesar
Almost every successful orator, or public speaker, uses the art of rhetoric to
influence his or her audience. If it is used correctly, the use of rhetorical devices
such as logos, ethos and pathos can be very beneficial while trying to persuade a
large audience. During The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Antony and Brutus both give
speeches to a crowd of Roman citizens. Antony uses the art of rhetoriccorrectly,
therefore his speech was more influential than Brutus s speech was. Many other
people were extremely good at persuading a large amount of people to do crazy
things, such as Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin. They were both very influential people
during their time because they knew how to effectively use logos, ethos, and

Foucault s Discipline And Punishment
The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries experienced a surge of social reform
movements linked to the Enlightenment, which transformed society into the modern
culture seen today. Michel Foucault s Discipline and Punish examines how
punishment was viewed and enacted prior to the humane awakening of the eighteenth
century, while establishing the progression of change that shifted punishment from
the body to the soul. Foucault was a student and professor of philosophy and
psychology during the twentieth century, which influenced his writings and political
activism. Discipline and Punishis a result of his active participation in prisonreform,
in which he outlines the history of the modern penal system and how it is linked to
modern society,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Spectacle and purposeful pain on the body was the norm of the time, however,
Foucault contrasts this episode with a timetable for prisoners some eighty years
later, a rigid schedule meant to control and reform the prisoner s soul. By stating how
it was a time of great scandals for traditional justice, a time of innumerable projects
for reform, (Foucault, 7) it becomes clear that the aim of these four parts are to
gradually demonstrate how one follows the other. Torture of the body became
punishment of the soul, which depended on discipline, ultimately creating the
modern prison system. Foucault s structure facilitates the audience to comprehend the
forces behind this transformation. Part one, TortureВё elucidates how torture and
execution was an organized ritual for the marking of victims and the expression of
the power that punishes. (Foucault, 34) Within part two, PunishmentВё the
beginning of the humanization process is exposed by reform movements that called
for a redisposition of power, the goal was not to punish less, but to punish better.
(Foucault, 82) Thus was born the idea of a prison, a space where one s soul could be
corrected and reformed. Discipline presents how institutions were created in order to
observe individuals behavior and to compare their behavior to the norm , and that
perpetual observation could coerce people into this normative behavior. In this
section, Foucault introduces Bentham s

imperative. To manage this population of mule deer in Colorado a detailed

Mncs in India
MNCs in India By A V Vedpuriswar[1] Introduction With a GDP growth of almost 7
percent1, India is one of the most promising and fastest growing economies in the
world. But despite the huge potential of the country, the performance of
Multinational Corporations (MNCs) in India has been decidedly mixed. Many
MNCs which have succeeded remarkably elsewhere in the world have yet to make a
significant impact in India. The market entry and penetration strategies that have
worked so well for these companies in other countries have been for less successful
in India. Many MNCs have struggled to understand Indian customers and come up
with suitable products and services. At the same time, some MNCs have done pretty
well for themselves. Why have... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, MNCs which entered India since the 1990s have in general been
more aggressive and proactive in a liberalised business environment, than those
which began operations during the license Raj. Hyundai, Samsung and LG are
good examples. The older MNCs like Bata have also been handicapped by the
baggage accumulated over a period of time. Such companies are often at a
disadvantage due to their bloated manpower and inefficient manufacturing facilities.
Of the 50 plus[2] MNCs with a significant presence in India, the nine market leaders,
including British American Tobacco (BAT), Hyundai Motor, Suzuki Motor, and
Unilever, have an average return on capital employed of around 48 percent. Even the
next 26 have an average ROCE of 36 percent. The most successful MNCs in India
have some common characteristics. Resisting the instinct to transplant to India the
best practices of other countries, they have treated the country as a strategic market.
These companies have also taken a long term view. They have invested time and
resources to understand local consumers and business conditions. They have
understood that the price points that matter in India are different from those in other
countries. In a country where the middle and lower end segments are critically
important, affordability is a crucial factor. At the same time, some of the successful
MNCs have also realised that price is not the only factor driving

is in our hands? What will it take to make you believe that I m your God the source
of the supernatural?
Prophets, yes, we have the talents, the abilities, and even if we have material
possessions, with a limited knowledge of the Truth, please remember this. All things,
that God has put in our hands have been sanctified with the rod of God s authority
through the begetting of the Holy Spirit.
This is a life changing principle and we need to embrace. This is something I
highly encourage you to never forget. Yes, it is life changing and supernatural. We
may feel inadequate at times, and so unworthy of this honor, just as the great
Moses did. We know that in our own selves we come far short of his glory, but this
worked for Moses and will work for you and me. Let us begin today to embrace it,

Symptoms And Treatment Of Auto Immune Disorders
A rare disorder characterized by the presence of reversible precipitation of
immunoglobulins in the blood upon exposure to decreased temperature 1
Cryoglobulins, which precipitate when blood temperature is cooled below 37В°C,
are occasionally present in the blood in low levels without any symptoms, especially
with advancing age or in the presence of auto immune disorders; in cryoglobulinemia,
circulating cryoglobulins in serum can cause a systemic inflammatory syndrome
characterized by fatigue, arthralgia, purpura, neuropathy and glomerulonephritis. At

Essay On Elbow Dislocation
After the diagnosis from the orthopedic doctor of a posterior elbow dislocation, the
athlete was instructed to wear a mobilization brace locked out at thirty degrees until
his next follow up appointment. During this time, gentle range of motion activities
began involving the wrist and the elbow in both flexionand extension. The athlete also
worked on grip strength with putty, increasing the time and intensity as needed. In
addition to these activities, isometric elbow contractions added to the intensity of the
rehabilitation. After the rehabilitation sessions finished, the athlete iced the injured
area.
The athlete began to heat the injured area before beginning his exercise to help
promote increasing range of motion. Both active and passive stretching of the elbow
and wrist assists the athlete in increasing range of motion as well. The athletic

the athlete to begin closed chain activities. Wall pushups were then added to the
athlete s rehabilitation program.
Next, the athletic training staff added elbow curls and extension to the athlete s

The Story Of The Syrophoenician Woman In The Gospels
The story of the Syrophoenician woman found in the Book of Matthew and Mark is
one of the most intriguing accounts of healing in the Gospels.
The Book of Matthew says Jesus left Galilee and went north to the region of Tyre
and Sidon. A certain woman came to Jesus, crying out, Lord, Son of David, have
mercy on me! My daughter is demon possessed and suffering terribly (Matthew 15:21
22). The woman was a Gentile, of Syrophoenician origin. She is described as a
Greek, a Syrophoenician by race in Mark 7:26 (KJV).3 She wanted Jesus to cast the
devil out of her daughter. Jesus replied to her, It is not right to take the children s
bread and toss it to the dogs (Matthew 15:24). What??? And with remarkable insight
and persistence, she replied,

Blood Shortage And Fda Policy Limitations Essay
Blood Shortage and FDA Policy Limitations Our nation has a major blood shortage
which results in a national health crisis. States all over the nation are reporting the
need for blood donors and the importance of having donors to help those who are
directly affected. There has been a recent rise in shortage due to the increased
demand of high complex surgeries which require a large supply of blood.
McMillan reports, just one liver transplant can take 120 units of donated blood
(Zabarenko, 2016). It is imperative to bring attention to this social problem, and
begin to search for possible solutions, as well as identifying gaps in the policy
before seeking policy revision. Experts indicate that the only solution is for this
problem is to persuade people to become donors (Nagourney, 2009). The American
Red Cross and Americans Blood Center currently encompass almost all of the
nation s blood supply. Blood supply decreases more during the summer because
schools and certain businesses close and are not open to hold a blood drive. The
American Red Cross predicts that a person in a single car accident can need up to
100 pints of blood (ARC, 2016). However, during a routine blood drive a person
can only donate 1 pint of their blood supply. The American Red Cross also reports
that they need 80,000 units in one day to run successfully, but are only receiving
36,000 a day (Healy, 2016). Recently, the American Red Cross issued an Urgent:

Marquis De Lafayette Characteristics
Marquis de Lafayette was one of the biggest figures in American Revolution
history. Lafayette was a volunteer soldier in the American Revolution, he came
with the sole purpose of avenging his father s death against the English in the
French and Indian wars. He soon grew to believe in the patriot s beliefs of freedom
and equality. Lafayette said, Defender of Liberty I idolize, myself more free than
anyone, as coming as a friend to offer my services to this intriguing republic...
(Vowell 16). He also showed great zeal for the cause of liberty (Vowell 1) which later
helped him move up through the ranks to the position of major general. The young
Frenchman s first battle was the Battle of Brandywine, where he fought alongside the
prestigious George Washington. In this battle he was shot in the leg and had to
leave; but he cut short his recovery time so he could continue fighting. Lafayette s
fervor for the war won him the highly desired trust of General George Washington,
which then led him to be one of the most esteemed generals of all time. His
dedication inspired many other French soldiers to join the American cause. He was
both a vocal defender and a great example by his leadership and courage in the
Revolutionary War. His most important battle was the Battle of Yorktown in 1781.
With his royal relations in France, he was able to transfer extra French military
officers and ships to aid the Americans in this momentous battle. Lafayette s skilled

Serial Killers in the World
Overview
In the 1980s serial killers were understood to be a new development, a phenomenon
frequently accredited to the excesses of American culture. It was a decade of
change, one of freedom and great music. It was also a decade that brought the
shock and fear of serial killers. Today it seems as if all societies have serial killers.
People in today s society are left with questions such as: Who are they? Why are they
so different? Why do they commit such horrific crimes? There are many theories that
psychologists and sociologists have researched but found no definite answers. The
Bureau of Justice Statistics partnership with MINCAVA reported that, between 1976
and 1994 there were an estimated 405,089 murders in the United States. Of these, the
circumstances surrounding the murder are known in 317,925, or 78.5%. Among the
cases with known circumstances, an estimated 4,807, or 1.5%, were classified as
involving rape or another sex offense (Greenfeld 1997). Though the vast majority of
violent sex offending involves males assaulting female victims, females account for a
small percentage of known offenders, and males account for a small percentage of
victims (Greenfeld, 1997).
Serial killers are a disturbing piece of the puzzle of society that we must figure out to
save the lives of the public in the future. Although the term serial killer loosly means
killing serveral people by different means, there are those who are indeed survivors
of these horrific acts and live to tell
Coffee Is The World s Second Largest Commodity
With the increase in demand of coffee within coffee drinkers globally, coffee has
successfully ensured its place to become the world s second largest commodity.
(cite) Coffea, commonly known as the coffee plant, is the member of the Rubiaceae
family (USDA 2015). While there are various species of the coffeeplant, Coffea
Arabicaand Coffea Canephora are mostly grown. However, between them Coffea
Arabica is considered to have greater quality and flavor. Brazil is known as the top
manufacturer of coffee followed by countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia,
Colombia, and Ethiopia (USDA 2014). The rising demand for coffee has amplified
the dependence of the coffee industry on countries that grows coffee. Using
pesticides on coffee fields seemed to be an ultimate solution for farmers who were
hoping for maximum productivity of coffee. Pesticides are used in agriculture in
order to protect plants from fungal diseases, pests, and insects that affect the growth
of food crops. On the short run, using pesticides has an advantage as it increases the
production and the quality of coffee. However, pesticidepractices have detrimental
impact on the environment, the quality and the amount of coffee manufactured, and
the health of the farmers in the long run.
The agricultural practice that involves the usage of pesticides has contributed in the
exploitation of the environment. The consumption of pesticides in countries
producing coffee has increased rapidly over the decades. For example,

the book. In chapter two, slavery, civil rights, and abolitionist perspectives toward
prison,, Davis provides a connection of slavery and prison institutions. She
provides an insight in a way that I have never thought about prisons before. Davis
reflects back on history and explains how slavery has not ended yet but has change.
She explains how even though slavery is abolition. before slavery was normal just
how prisons are normal to us. Overtime, we may change our views about prisons
and come to the conclusion to abolish prisons. In chapter three, imprisonment and
reform, Davis explains the means of imprisonment and what reform has to do with
it. Davis argues that prisons are obsolete because they are undemocratic because
they take away human rights such as the 13th amendment. She argues that a
democracy would not need prisons and many social problems would be fix. Prisons

Head Injury Research Papers
What is killing thousands of athletes? For decades, head injuries have been leading to
the demise of athletes. A plethora of athletes such as Steve Gleason, Sugar Ray
Johnson, and Lou Gehrig, have suffered from injuries pertaining to traumatic
situations caused on the brain. Many athletes who participate in contact sports such
as football, soccer, and boxing suffer from concussions, ALS and CTEs. However,
these athletes are not informed of these risks, prior to playing. To protect athletes
from head trauma, safety regulations regarding the head must be implemented, in
order to reduce the number of these death sentences that are found in athletes.

While both head trauma and concussions are caused by an outside force, a concussion
is a temporary state in which the individual endures mental alterations, but can
mentally and physically recover after a short amount of time. On the contrary, head
trauma causes permanent damage to the brain. A common misconception about
concussions is that one must be unconscious in order to receive a concussion.
However, that is not always the case. Many athletes receive concussions without
realizing that they have one. How might one know if they have a concussion? If an
athlete receives a blow to the head, and are having trouble with their coordination,
having a difficult time communicating, and/or has vomited that athlete must be taken
out of the game immediately. In order to test if an athlete has a concussion, their
coach give them a baseline test. The baseline test is composed of simple questions,
the athletes answer to the question, and the given time it took that athlete to answer
the question. If that athlete takes longer to answer the question, then they are
suffering from a concussion. Concussions vary depending on gender. Females are
more likely than males to receive a concussion due to their physical anatomy of their
neck. Because females have smaller and weaker necks than males, this allows for
more shock to abrupt the
Matthew s Coming Of Age Story In Traditional
Bildungsroman...
Angelina Jolie once said, I do believe in the old saying, What does not kill you
makes you stronger. Our experiences, good and bad, make us who we are. By
overcoming difficulties, we gain strength and maturity. Throughout the course of one
s life, they will experience their coming of age story and mature from it, which can be
see in most traditional Bildungsromanstories. Everyone has a different story, but we
all have one. Through the use of of a comic utilizing expressionism and single page
panels, Matthew s coming of agestory shows that people are subject to maturation
through big life transitions and racist endeavors in any form of a novel, thereby
suggesting harsh situations can help us to become a bigger person in the long run.
In life, all people will go through situations that bring them down, but it how we
respond to those moments that define us and help mature us. In this comic, the
panels of the maturation of the protagonist are in a deliberate sequence, intended to
show his maturation. Matthew focused on football when he should have been
focusing on his grades instead. Football is an icon for Matthew, which symbolizes
his major fantasy. It appears that he wanted to have fun in high school, rather than
doing school work. The comic uses scene to scene transitions to show how events
occurred in order. The use of word bubbles show that Matthew even had the audacity
to tell his teacher that he would start to do his school work after he finished his

advertised around the world. As a result, producers try to advance green capitalism to
urge consumers to purchase their ostensibly environment friendly products to help
the environment. This article examines how the following image Fight For the Last
Slice is related to green capitalism and how the producers greenwash their non eco
part.
Firstly, there is some brief analysis of this image. This is a print ad of a Spanish
pizza restaurant, Pizza Love. From the large white bold FIGHT FOR THE LAST
SLICE , that this advertisement is more focus on an economical lifestyle, which is
what the restaurant wants to introduce to their consumers. The round pizza can be
seen as the world, and the green cauliflowers on that veggie pizza represent the
forest resources. The last slice of veggie pizza represents a serious environment
situation in the world, which raise the consumers awareness of environment
protection. The words in the bottom left corner below the red logo We make pizza
not global warming and 100% recycled boxes try to show that Pizza Love is an eco
friendly restaurant, and is really focus on the environment situation.
However, this is just a greenwashing of this pizza restaurant. Greenwashing is
considered as the act of misleading consumers regarding the environmental practices
of a company or the
Why Is Rodeo Important To Me Essay
Rodeo is my life. School plays a big role in my life with rodeo. If I dont have above a
2.0 GPA I can t rodeo because when you rodeo in high school it s considered a sport
in your school so you have to stay on top of your grades so that you can rodeo.
Balancing school and rodeo is pretty difficult, because you have to stay on your
grades and then you go home and practice for 3 hours every day and it s hard to find
time to do your homework. I have plans to rodeoprofessionally when i turn 18 and
make a living on rodeo, once you turn pro you buy your traveling card for $100 and
that lasts you a year and you have to renew it every year.
Rodeoing will take you places that you have never been before and it will give you
the opportunity to meet a bunch of new people. When i first started rodeoing it
was hard for me to just go out and meet people because i didn t really know
anything about them and it took me a while to get the courage and go introduce
myself and make new friends. After a few years of rodeoing i wouldn t have to go
introduce myself because people would come up to me and ask who i was because
i was doing so good in all my events. Most people are rude at first but once you get
to know them and hang out with them, you finally start to see the nice side of them. ...

Team roping involves a header and a heeler, the header ropes the steer around the
head and the heeler ropes the steers two back feet. Calf Roping is just one cowboy
against one calf. You have to rope the calf around the neck and you jump off your
horse and run down the rope and tie the calf by three of his feet. In calf roping you
have a jerk line which you tie on to the horse and the rest of the rope goes under
your belt. When you jump off your horse the jerk line pulls on the horse s mouth so
that he pulls the calf into your lap so it s easier to tie. A Piggin string is like a little
rope that you use to tie the
Why Magic Should Not Be Confused With Witchcraft
In the 21st century what do people think of when they hear the word magic? Is it
Harry Potter and his friends fighting off Lord Voldemort or perhaps as Black
Sabbath sings witches at Black Masses? It is probably a bit of both depending on
your age and religious beliefs. This was not the case during the time period extending
from antiquity to the early modern period. People in this time believed that magic
could explain things they did not understand or could not explain. It was not for
entertainment. Magic probably claimed to provide all the answers which were later
provided by science, technology, and philosophy: it was everything. This statement
stands true for all three periods this paper focuses on even the early modern period
when religion was supposed to have taken place of magical beliefs. Magic should not
be confused with witchcraft. People believed that you could perform magic without
being or needing a witch. In antiquity, people believed that magic was between
religion and superstition. In a sense, magic, understood as a kind of science, has
always tried to locate the secret forces in nature, especially their sympathies and
antipathies and use them for specific purposes. Ancient Greeks and Romans
practiced or believed in many forms of magic but the magical ideal that lasted the
longest and is seen throughout all three time periods is the ideal of malefic, the use
of magic to do evil or harm. Medea is a prime example of this type of magic. She

History of The Super Bowl Essay
The impact of the Super bowl has been a phenomenon. In fact, since January 1967 it
has become part of the American culture, which illustrates that it has become the
single most important event in the sporting world currently (Johnson, Savidge, pp.
83). The Super bowl had quite humble origins, which is why it is shocking to
understand as to why this game became vastly popular and remains that way. In fact,
one would notice that it is a county fair, a weeklong convention along with an
unofficial national holiday with the right game for the television. Therefore, the name
of the game is no exaggeration. One can also notice the economic trends and success
of the Super Bowl. The economic footprints of this particular game are actually more

Therefore, before addressing the history of the Super Bowl and the reasons for it
becoming such a mega scale event, it is important to discuss the National Football
League.
Importance of Football
These are the not so obvious reasons that make Super Bowl such a popular game,
and such an important cultural event. According to McBride (1995), football is able
to show violence, blood, groans and grunts in the right way, since there is no actual
death. Therefore, war and commerce both find their rationalized version through the
ritualistic performance of Football, more specifically Super Bowl in this context. It
affirms to the identity of American men that they are real men, who are able to enjoy
power and violence and they are not weak. The symbolization of the phallic
aggression of war and destruction becomes possible through football (Langman, pp.
75).
History about National Football League
Without any doubts, the National Football League is considered to be the most
popular sports league within the United States. It has a huge amount of prominence
on the global sporting landscape. NFL has been able to build Super Bowl into this
dynamic event that we see today (Coombs, pp. 93). The League was formed in
1920 and it was only after WWII that it was able to gradually gain the kind of
prominence that it has today. It had to

As stated earlier, the deontological theory states that there is a duty to perform
certain acts not because of some benefit to ourselves or others, but because of the
nature of these actions or the rules from which they follow. Deontology theory
abides by the rules of doing the right thing always and avoid wrong doing. The
word Deon comes from a Greek word meaning duty; therefore, deontologists
believe all companies has a duty to conduct business in the right and most ethical
way. Rolls Royce bribery, from a deontologist perspective is seen as immoral and
unethical practice. In hindsight, they should have conducted business to gain profits
in a just manner, no matter the consequences of doing the right thing, it would just
be more ethical. Although, the results of doing the right thing may not have
resulted in gaining profits and earning up to millions in profits but it would be the
most ethical way to operate a business, especially not having the company s name
making headlines for a scandal. Over $10.5 billion dollars was paid in the period of
years to land contracts, which is a huge sum of money to spend on landing major
contracts. That money could have been invested wisely in to the company and they
may be could have reaped more benefits. On Wednesday 16th November, 2016, a Rio

History
In a nineteenth century Boston, there was a great import of books from Liverpool.
The books were not of made of magnificent physical nor written material but were
significantly appreciated by readers, librarians, and publishers. The books that were
shipped in were called Waverlys by Walter Scott. They were produced in Britain and
were shipped to the United States to be published by Wells and Lilly. These re
printings created an intense competition between publishing companies. People of all
ages were enthusiastic about the books and were competitive to make sure they got a
copy. The American reprinting of the Waverlys helped build the foundation of
American culture. Even though these books were not written in America they
changed the culture with their popularity among the people. These books became
American literature. Before Waverlys were published in the United States,
publishing in America was mainly just newspapers, almanacs, and pamphlets and
relied on Britain to send them anything fiction. However, as tariffs rose publishers
decided that they would make more money by importing one copy of a British book
and then reprinting in the United States. This shift in publishing changed the game
of the publishing world. Publishers didn t have one job anymore; they were now
wholesalers and distributors for the books they published by themselves. Now they
didn t just have a local market, they had a national market. Just before 1815 was to
end, two of the three
40 Hour Famine
The 40 hour famine, an organisation founded by world vision, is done to raise
money for people living in developing countries that cannot afford the luxuries we
take for granted. People around the world participate by giving up something
important to them for 40 hours (World Vision, 2015). This is an important issue in
today s community as the money raised goes to tackling the problem of povertyand
foodshortage in third world countries. Global hunger is the world s biggest health
risk, making children sick and taking away their chance at a better future. By putting
posters up around the community, creating a website and sending out a survey we
have been able to educate many people in the community. These are all ways that can

Hunger and malnutrition is the number one health risk stopping the mental
development of children. One in eight people goes to bed hungry every night with
850 million people around the world not having enough food to be healthy and
lead an active life (World Vision, 2015). For our health promoting activity we
created posters and hung them in the five sub schools (Appendix 1). This has
helped to educate many of the year 8 s and 9 s on this topic. We also sent many
people a survey which gave us insight into what people knew and also gave us a
way of educating more people (Appendix 2). Another thing we did to educate
people was by creating a website with information about the foundation and a link
to the World Vision website where people can donate to the cause (Appendix 3).
By educating people on this topic we have expanded their knowledge on the cause.
More people will be able to participate and donate to the cause knowing that they
will be helping many people around the world. Other ways to promote this
organisation can be creating a Facebook page, raising money, having guest speakers,
handing out brochures and creating a petition. These people will also be able to raise
more awareness themselves and educate many other

such as (a) living in Arizona without lawful immigration status, (b) failing to carry

Estate Of Erasmus Allassi. Thirty Years Before Erasmus
Estate of Erasmus Allassi
Thirty years before Erasmus Allassi became the last living heir to the Allassi
shipping fortune, his father, Stathos Allassi, lived in a small village, perched
clifftop, overlooking the Cycladic Islands in Greece. Growing up among the tranquil
white washed houses of Chora Anafi a poor village, where locals survived on
anchovies and sapts Erasmus Allassi found success in fishing. For Anafiots fishing
was as natural as the mythological stories surrounding Anafi; tales of the island
surfacing from the Aegean Sea to protect the Argonauts, who had prayed to Apollo to
save them from the angry sea.
However, the serenity of the village had been broken one day, when his father had
succumbed to an irresistible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

from you. I think you should open it.
What is the urgency?
It is from the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, sir. He handed the card to his boss and
stood back.
Allassi took the card from the man and read it. Engraved on the card:
THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF WINDSOR
Would like to invite Mr. Erasmus Allassi to an Evening Reception at Maxim s de

Black and White Formal Attire Requested. Allassi handed the card back to the man.
Put this on my calendar, as a maybe. Then he waved his majordomo away. He gazed
at the weathered stone walls of his grand bedroom. He lived in a windswept villa on
the CГґte d Azur, the benefactor of an unusually golden life, both in America and the
capitals of Europe. But, this afternoon he wished that he had not been invited to this
dinner at Maxims.
Sure, his golden court held him in high regard. Why not, with his witty repartee and
gallant Г©lan? But, he was growing bored with the galas. The illustrious fame. The
anointed. The monarchs and the divine. Including the bored expressions on the
perfect faces of women with superbly coifed hair, the blessed women of haute
couture.
Certainly, in privileged circles, he was known as an attractive, well heeled man about

Formula 1 Constructor
The resources, capabilities and attributes that are required for the success in
Formula One (F1) can be looked on a number of dimensions taking into
consideration the unique and fast paced context of Formula One. F1 is a highly
competitive industry and based in a rapidly changing environment, which has been
defined by Porter s five forces (Appendix One). Key resources within F1 are both
tangible and intangible and can be considered under the following broad categories:
Physical Resources: The car and its components such as engines and chassis are vital
resources but the technological advancement determines its ability to win races. Test

Though such advantageous technological strategic capabilities have been required
by constructors for competitive advantage, they have also become been a pivotal
factor for the introduction of increased legislation designed to reduce uncertainty
and increase competition, such as the introduction of generic tyres. The factors
responsible for the success of the teams in their respective periods of dominance
can be considered through analysis of the organisations core competencies, a form
of competitive advantage which is usually a result of collective learning processes
and are manifested in business and activities and processes. The core competencies
are those unique capabilities, which usually span over multiple products or markets.
(Hafeez 2002). Ferrari s dominance in the mid 1970 s Much of Ferrari s success
during the period of the mid 1970 s can be attributed to the ability to build their race
cars at the Maranello site without the need to outsource for component parts. This
created centralisation of knowledge and expertise, thus the ability to transfer
knowledge between departments without leakage. When Ferrari sold 40% of the
company to Fiat, in 1969, providing huge cash injection thus acquiring the Fiorano
test track allowing them to test the change in any aspect of the car on the track and

Fairy Tales Effect on Children
Cinderella As children most of our life lessons were acquired through the simplicity

A Third Way Between Two Extremes
Racial oppression and ethnic prejudice made the South Africa in unrest in the past. In

  • 2. Holmes And Watson s Dichotomy A common trope seen in the detective genre is the dichotomy between the detective and their companion. While the detective normally serves as the primary character and voice of reason within the novel, their companion acts as a contrasting character and is often the story s narrator. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle s A Study in Scarlet redefines the necessity of a companion for the detective. In analyzing the relationship between Sherlock Holmesand Dr. John Watson, it is evident that their relationship is mutually beneficial. Although Doyle highlights the differences between the two men, he also demonstrates the important role that each man plays in the other s life. Sherlock serves as a companion and motivation for John, while he assists Sherlock... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The novel begins with a description of his near death experiences and subsequent arrival in London. Lonely and weakened from his time in Afghanistan, Watson is eager for companionship and finds it in Sherlock Holmes. Living with Holmes provides him with something to focus on, as he tells the reader this man stimulated my curiosity, and how often I endeavored to break through the reticence which he showed on all that concerned himself, (Doyle 16). His friendship with Sherlock not only gives him companionship, but it also provides a sense of purpose when he invites Watson to the crime scene of Enoch Drebber. Watson and Sherlock s reaction to the murder are drastically different. While Sherlock is described as hearing the news the crime scene calmly, Watson cries Why this is terrible, (26). While Sherlock looks at the crime objectively, Watson provides the emotional response. Watson s emotional response drives him to help Sherlock with the case, as he realizes that justice must be done, and that the depravity of the victim was no condonement in the eyes of the law, (43). John s emotional response balances out Sherlock s calm, business like approach and together, the two of them create a balanced

Consequently, policecan use this authority to potentially violate another individuals right, such as privacy. • 4. Prostate Carcinogenesis Essay Biology Colloquium 595 (09/22/2014): ER plus AR mediated effects and estrogen genotoxicity are all required in combination to induce prostate cancer by Dr. Bosland. Prostate Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S and is responsible for 10% of the death in men because of cancer. Dr. Maarten C.Bosland at UIC (University of Illinois at Chicago) spoke about his study of prostate carcinogenesis on rats and deduced a working hypothesis which might help pinpointing the main cause of this cancer. He based his study on the fact that castration and estrogen treatment can lead to regression of prostate cancer and went on to explain the importance of Testosterone and its relation with the androgen and estrogen receptor in context with the size of prostate gland and thus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Dr Bosland presented his hypothesis saying only hormones could not be solely responsible for the cause of carcinogenesis but that other factors or rather a combination of several factors induce prostate carcinogenesis. After performing several studies on rats, his team and he stated a hypothesis that testosterone in the presence of DHT (5 alpha reductase) acted on the Androgen receptor and even CYP19 (aromatase) acted on testosterone and became the estrogen receptor. They also observed that the estrogen receptor lead to a series of apurinic changes that lead to mutations in the DNA and thus chemical carcinogenesis as a result of DNA damage. The team further on combined the two hypothesis and came to the conclusion that a mechanism of estradiol genotoxicity might even be involved in establishing the cancer as a redox cycling of enzymatic reactions were observed which lead to the production of superoxide oxygen and Quinone these acted as DNA adducts and are responsible for oxidative DNA damage. They are still working on their

The National Basketball Association ( Nba ) The National Basketball Association (NBA) was founded on June 6, 1949 in New York City and has exploded today to become one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the world, next to the National Football League(NFL). There are a total of 30 teams in the NBA, each worth about $1.25 billion, making the whole league worth about $37.5 billion. The mastermind behind the NBA s huge profits are the white collared team owners who watch over the respected team franchises for years. In the past, NBA team owners have been caught up in scandals that have created stereotypes and misconseptions among fans that paint the owners as money hungry individuals who give no respect for their blue collared players in the league. The NBA cutting ties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Misconseptions on the other hand, are derived from stereotypes of a group that have no origin for the misconseption. Misconseptions are unfounded assumptions a person does or has because he or she is in the group. For example, in the 1990 s at the height of the AIDS/HIV scare, it was believed homosexuals are more likely to contract the virus than heterosexuals. The misconseptoion has no basis or any study to back it up and future studies proved that everyone is at equal risk to contract the virus during unprotected sex, which ended the misconseption. Now that stereotypes and misonceptions are understood, it s time to switch gears to discuss NBA team owners. I have been watching the NBA since 2013, watching my favorite team while not having a single thought about the higher ups of NBA teams. But my view changed quickly in 2014, similar to many other fans, when the Donald Sterling Scandal occurred. Donald Sterling was the former owner of the Los Angeles Clippers whos girlfriend, V Stiviano, recorded Sterling making racist remarks. It started off with Stiviano posting a picture with former basketball star Earving Magic Johnson on her public Instagram. According to Thirty Mile Zone s(TMZ) online article, TMZ exposes Sterling s disappointment with Stiviano by stating How about your whole life, everyday, you do

  • 10. Relationship Between Place And Music And The Song Inglan... The objective of this paper is to examine the relationship between place and music and analyze the song Inglan is a Bitch by Linton Kwesi Johnson in terms of place. Inglan is a Bitch exemplifies the link between music and place through its lyrics and sound. First I am going to define cultural geography and discuss how culture is linked to place. Then I will explain local musicspaces and why music has a strong sense of place. Next I will analyze how Inglan is a Bitch relates to place. After, I will finish with an overall conclusion. I will be exploring these topics through the readings of Knox and Marston, Connell and Gibson and finally, Watson, Holyer and Mager supplemented by Lecture notes. According to Knox and Marston, culture produces a shared set of meanings and practices, while geography is the place in which groups shape those meanings and practices and in the process form an identity (Knox and Marston 2016, 155). Cultural Geography focuses on the way space, place and landscape shape culture at the same time that culture shapes space, place, and landscape (Knox and Marston 2016, 155). Cultural geography examines cultural traits, cultural complexes, and cultural regions. (Rutherford 2016). It is a way to understand both landscape and human settlement patterns (Rutherford 2016). In the reading Sounds and Scenes, authors Connell and Gibson suggest that a local music space is a specific place that produces a distinct sound (Connell and Gibson 2003, 90). The
  • 11. Charles Baxter s The Art Of Subtext A story is only as good as the way it is told. The way a writer uses his or her words to say something is just as important as what they don t say. Charles Baxter, author of plethora of books and university teacher, writes a craft book that goes deeper than the surface of writing and deeper than the words written down. In Charles Baxter s The Art of Subtext, he discusses how authors can use the words they do write just as much to express what they don t write. The first chapter, The Art of Staging claims Staging in fictioninvolves putting characters in specific strategic positions in the scene so that some unvoiced nuance is revealed. (Baxter 13) This includes the character s standing positions, their proximity to each other, specific gestures and facial expressions, which give the reader more insight to the scene and the characters without explicitly saying so. This goes hand in hand with the setting of the atmosphere where atmosphere sets the dominant tone or the mood of a story. The atmosphere can be in reference to the setting or the characters themselves. Here, the reader is to read between the lines. The key to this is using a lot of detail which is crucial to providing the information. This is something important that I need to incorporate in my own writing. More detail in my writing concerning the unspoken things will allow the reader to see the evolution of the narrator s state of mind. A twitch of an eye or how close my antagonist stands to his or her

Foucault s Discipline And Punishment The eighteenth and nineteenth centuries experienced a surge of social reform movements linked to the Enlightenment, which transformed society into the modern culture seen today. Michel Foucault s Discipline and Punish examines how punishment was viewed and enacted prior to the humane awakening of the eighteenth century, while establishing the progression of change that shifted punishment from the body to the soul. Foucault was a student and professor of philosophy and psychology during the twentieth century, which influenced his writings and political activism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Spectacle and purposeful pain on the body was the norm of the time, however, Foucault contrasts this episode with a timetable for prisoners some eighty years later, a rigid schedule meant to control and reform the prisoner s soul. By stating how it was a time of great scandals for traditional justice, a time of innumerable projects for reform, (Foucault, 7) it becomes clear that the aim of these four parts are to gradually demonstrate how one follows the other. Torture of the body became punishment of the soul, which depended on discipline, ultimately creating the modern prison system. Foucault s structure facilitates the audience to comprehend the forces behind this transformation. Part one, TortureВё elucidates how torture and execution was an organized ritual for the marking of victims and the expression of the power that punishes. (Foucault, 34) Within part two, PunishmentВё the beginning of the humanization process is exposed by reform movements that called for a redisposition of power, the goal was not to punish less, but to punish better. (Foucault, 82) Thus was born the idea of a prison, a space where one s soul could be corrected and reformed. Discipline presents how institutions were created in order to observe individuals behavior and to compare their behavior to the norm , and that perpetual observation could coerce people into this normative behavior. In this section, Foucault introduces Bentham s

Such companies are often at a disadvantage due to their bloated manpower and inefficient manufacturing facilities. Resisting the instinct to transplant to India the best practices of other countries, they have treated the country as a strategic market. These companies have also taken a long term view. They have invested time and resources to understand local consumers and business conditions. They have understood that the price points that matter in India are different from those in other countries. In a country where the middle and lower end segments are critically important, affordability is a crucial factor. At the same time, some of the successful MNCs have also realised that price is not the only factor driving

It was a decade of change, one of freedom and great music. It was also a decade that brought the shock and fear of serial killers. Today it seems as if all societies have serial killers. People in today s society are left with questions such as: Who are they? Why are they so different? Why do they commit such horrific crimes? There are many theories that psychologists and sociologists have researched but found no definite answers. The Bureau of Justice Statistics partnership with MINCAVA reported that, between 1976 and 1994 there were an estimated 405,089 murders in the United States. Of these, the circumstances surrounding the murder are known in 317,925, or 78.5%. On the contrary, head trauma causes permanent damage to the brain. A common misconception about concussions is that one must be unconscious in order to receive a concussion. However, that is not always the case. Many athletes receive concussions without realizing that they have one. How might one know if they have a concussion? If an athlete receives a blow to the head, and are having trouble with their coordination, having a difficult time communicating, and/or has vomited that athlete must be taken out of the game immediately. Is it Harry Potter and his friends fighting off Lord Voldemort or perhaps as Black Sabbath sings witches at Black Masses? It is probably a bit of both depending on your age and religious beliefs. This was not the case during the time period extending from antiquity to the early modern period. People in this time believed that magic could explain things they did not understand or could not explain. It was not for entertainment. Magic probably claimed to provide all the answers which were later provided by science, technology, and philosophy: it was everything. This statement stands true for all three periods this paper focuses on even the early modern period when religion was supposed to have taken place of magical beliefs. Ancient Greeks and Romans practiced or believed in many forms of magic but the magical ideal that lasted the longest and is seen throughout all three time periods is the ideal of malefic, the use of magic to do evil or harm. According to McBride (1995), football is able to show violence, blood, groans and grunts in the right way, since there is no actual death. Therefore, war and commerce both find their rationalized version through the ritualistic performance of Football, more specifically Super Bowl in this context. It affirms to the identity of American men that they are real men, who are able to enjoy power and violence and they are not weak.
