- 2. In this poster the text conforms to conventions of movie posters (especially horror ones) as only the title of the movie, is on the poster. The movie poster appeal s to its audience, especially to the younger audience as it uses the “#whatareyouafriadof” which uses Twitter, a social media networking site, to promote and also engage with the audience The poster features a clown which is also used in the old poltergeist movie which appeals to an older target audience who are familiar with the older version. The use of the clown is a common phobia which connotes fear which lets people know of the genre and what possibly may come in the movie.
- 3. This is a “teaser” poster which does not give away much details apart from a possible scene from the movie. This is good advertisement as it builds hype about the movie. The tagline at the top, “they know what scares you” is slightly morbid and further suggests of the movie’s genre. The lighting appears ghost- like and all the other images such as the hands popping out the screen is common in a horror film.
- 4. This is another ‘teaser’ poster featuring a scene from the film. It features one of the main characters from the film in front of a closet with a clown on the side. Closets and clowns are stereotypical in most horror films. The girl has her back to the camera which has connotations of mystery and ambiguity. The clown is consistent in most of the movie posters which shows that it is an important ‘prop’ or aspect of the movie. The often occurrence of the clown in the teasers and the posters make it like the ‘icon’ of the movie.
