What is a Promotion Package and what is the
purpose?
A promotional package is the way in which a type of media is advertised to
attract the target audience toward the product that is being promoted. A
promotional package consists of numerous information about the product that is
being advertised. This is essential as the target audience should have a brief
understanding of the features that are present in the product.
The quality of the package is dependent on the budget of the film industry. For
example if there was allot of money put in the promotional package the package
would consist of various types of content which would grab the audiences attention,
this would also result to a wider range of audience as there wold be something
interesting in the package for everyone (e.g a toy in a MacDonald's happy meal for
the younger audiences). However if a company had a small budget the film would
not be as successful as the promotional package would also be small which means
that the advertisement wouldn't draw a wider audience in.

Everyone is associated with at least on type of social media. Film companies are
aware that in this day and age the best form of advertisement is through social media,
as they know for sure that it would reach there target audience e.g. Facebook,
Instagram, Twitter etc…
Product sponsorship is one of the best forms of advertising , by doing so companies
would insure that all types of audiences are aware of there film. An example of a
sponsorship is if the film was targeted at a younger audience and the film is animated
you designing a toy that looks like the character in the film and put it in a
MacDonald's happy meal, by doing so the child would want to watch the film as they
now have the toy to play with.
Posters
Film posters are essential in forming the promotional package as it gives the audience an
idea of what the film will consist of and the genre of the film without film posters the
audience would not be aware of the basic information i.e. release date. Normally a teaser is
released, then the actual poster with the important information later on. Posters
are easily accessible as they are advertised everywhere on billboards, busses and buss
stops.

Trailer
Film trailers are made to excite the target audience about the film being released. Trailers
show small snippets of the important and most exciting parts of the film. A successful
trailer is one that creates excitement to the audience and makes them want to go and
watch it. It also gives you a brief understanding of what the film consists of without
exposing the majority of the film. In a promotional package film trailers are the most
important feature as it informs the audience about the story of the film, without a trailer
the audience would not be aware of what the film contains which means that they might
not watch it as it does nit interest them.
Some film companies use advertise there film on using magazine reviews, these are
affective for the promotional package as the audience could read the reviews of what
other people think of the film. The purpose of a film review is to draw in the target
audience and give them more reasons of why to watch the film.

audience are already aware of
the story of the film.

Trailer 1
This trailer is particularly effective as it gives you a brief understanding of what the film will
consist of without giving away too much information about the movie. It is clear from the
trailer that the genre of the movie is romance and tragedy. This is because the movie is about
two cancer suffers that’s fall in love and battle cancer together.
The Fault In Our Stars trailer is 2:29 minutes
The title of the film is shown 2:19 minutes in
to the trailer

The fault in our stars is featured on different magazines during the promotion of the film.
The Natural Health magazine does not say much about the film, it states in the top right
hand corner ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ with the actress’s name underneath it. On the other
hand the magazine ‘Entertainment’ used the whole front cover to promote the film, as both
actors are features, the book and the title of the film. There is also a page in the magazine
that is dedicated to the film.

trailer. This gives the audience a sneak peak of
what the film is about but not as much as the
trailer. The teaser only contains snippets and
images which excites the audience to watch t the
main trailer

Magazine- 2
The film Avengers was promoted by the magazine
Empire, the magazine also adapted the theme of
the film by having the name Empire in the colour
red. There is not much text surrounding the
image , which means that all the attention would
be on the film poster. There also should be a
review of the film in the magazine which is
affective as the audience could read the reviews
and gain a better understanding of the film.

tension for the audience and makes them wonder what is going to happen. Throughout the
trailer the lighting is very low which adds an affect to ‘scary’ genre of the film.

  • 3. What is a Promotion Package and what is the purpose? A promotional package is the way in which a type of media is advertised to attract the target audience toward the product that is being promoted. A promotional package consists of numerous information about the product that is being advertised. This is essential as the target audience should have a brief understanding of the features that are present in the product. The quality of the package is dependent on the budget of the film industry. For example if there was allot of money put in the promotional package the package would consist of various types of content which would grab the audiences attention, this would also result to a wider range of audience as there wold be something interesting in the package for everyone (e.g a toy in a MacDonald's happy meal for the younger audiences). However if a company had a small budget the film would not be as successful as the promotional package would also be small which means that the advertisement wouldn't draw a wider audience in.

  • 5. Social Networking and product sponsorship Everyone is associated with at least on type of social media. Film companies are aware that in this day and age the best form of advertisement is through social media, as they know for sure that it would reach there target audience e.g. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc… Product sponsorship is one of the best forms of advertising , by doing so companies would insure that all types of audiences are aware of there film. An example of a sponsorship is if the film was targeted at a younger audience and the film is animated you designing a toy that looks like the character in the film and put it in a MacDonald's happy meal, by doing so the child would want to watch the film as they now have the toy to play with.

Posters Film posters are essential in forming the promotional package as it gives the audience an idea of what the film will consist of and the genre of the film without film posters the audience would not be aware of the basic information i.e. release date. Normally a teaser is released, then the actual poster with the important information later on. Posters are easily accessible as they are advertised everywhere on billboards, busses and buss stops. Magazine cover Trailer Film trailers are made to excite the target audience about the film being released. Trailers show small snippets of the important and most exciting parts of the film. A successful trailer is one that creates excitement to the audience and makes them want to go and watch it. It also gives you a brief understanding of what the film consists of without exposing the majority of the film. In a promotional package film trailers are the most important feature as it informs the audience about the story of the film, without a trailer the audience would not be aware of what the film contains which means that they might not watch it as it does nit interest them. Some film companies use advertise there film on using magazine reviews, these are affective for the promotional package as the audience could read the reviews of what other people think of the film. The purpose of a film review is to draw in the target audience and give them more reasons of why to watch the film.

Film 1 – The Fault In Our Stars Poster 1 The film title is looks exactly the same as the cover of the book Release date s that the audience are aware of the basic information The main image gives away the genre of the film Information about the film at the top but no credits In this particular poster the image does all the talking as it is clear that it is a tragic romance due to male and female character laying together there is a oxygen tube coming out of her nose which symbolises illness. However there is not much information on tis poster , the reason for this could be that there was book published before this which means that the audience are already aware of the story of the film. Audience are now aware that these are the main protagonists in the film

Film 1 – The Fault In Our Stars Trailer 1 This trailer is particularly effective as it gives you a brief understanding of what the film will consist of without giving away too much information about the movie. It is clear from the trailer that the genre of the movie is romance and tragedy. This is because the movie is about two cancer suffers that’s fall in love and battle cancer together. The Fault In Our Stars trailer is 2:29 minutes The title of the film is shown 2:19 minutes in to the trailer Stars- Shailene Woodley Ansel Elgort There was not a teaser trailer in the promotional package
  • 9. The fault in our stars is featured on different magazines during the promotion of the film. The Natural Health magazine does not say much about the film, it states in the top right hand corner ‘The Fault In Our Stars’ with the actress’s name underneath it. On the other hand the magazine ‘Entertainment’ used the whole front cover to promote the film, as both actors are features, the book and the title of the film. Film 2 – Avengers Poster 2 Film credits and details of the film are stated at the bottom in a faint unclear font which perhaps suggests a lack of importance Main characters names featured at the top of the poster It is made very clear that this films genre is action this is due to the main image. The image is digitally construed and the main characters are placed in the foreground Product company logo is found on the poster Release date is in bold, clear font so that it grabs the audiences attention The title of the film is placed in the centre and stands out from the rest of the poster The genre of the film is indicated through the characters, fire shots in the background and action shots.
  • 11. Film 2 – Avengers Trailer 2 The promotion for this film also included a teaser trailer. This gives the audience a sneak peak of what the film is about but not as much as the trailer. The teaser only contains snippets and images which excites the audience to watch t the main trailer This trailer is 2:24 minutes When the audience watch this trailer they will get a brief understanding of what the film is about It is made clear by the trailer that it is a action movie
  • 12. Film 2 – Avengers Magazine- 2 The film Avengers was promoted by the magazine Empire, the magazine also adapted the theme of the film by having the name Empire in the colour red. There is not much text surrounding the image , which means that all the attention would be on the film poster. There also should be a review of the film in the magazine which is affective as the audience could read the reviews and gain a better understanding of the film.

Film 3 – Saw Poster- 3 Main image is of a hand that has been chopped of which immediately suggests that the genre of the film is horror The title of the film is in the middle of the poster so that it stands out from the rest of the features Film credits and details of the film are stated at the bottom in a faint unclear font which perhaps suggests a lack of importance The background of the poster is white which allows the main features on the magazine to stand out The image of the hand appears to be washed out and fades slightly with the background
  • 14. Film 3 – Saw Trailer- 3 There is only trailer for this movie . The trailer first begins with no sound which builds up tension for the audience and makes them wonder what is going to happen. Throughout the trailer the lighting is very low which adds an affect to ‘scary’ genre of the film. The trailer is 1:6 minutes When the audience watch this trailer they will get a brief understanding of what the film is about The genre of the film is made clear throughout the entire trailer
