2. These are a few of the questions we asked our audience regarding our trailer:
1) Do you think the trailer targets my chosen audience? (13-18)
2) As the target audience are there any outstanding stereotypes?
3) Does the trailer make it clear that my film is a thriller movie?
4) Does the trailer make sense, and does is it clear in terms of narrative?
5) Are the costumes and props used in the trailer relevant for Thriller Movies?
The responses we received as a result from these brief interviews were valuable in our understanding of whether we were
successful in our aim for the production and allows us to gain an insight into what things we could of improved, increasing our
knowledge and assisting us in future productions.
3. 1) Do you think the trailer targets my chosen audience? (13-18)
From our first question of whether or not the trailer appeals to our target
audience of young adults the feedback that was received was very positive in
the sense that the use of weapons were not to explicit and therefore
appropriate for younger ages, nothing in the trailer was too revealing or violent
so fits in nicely with the target audience of which we were trying to aim at.
4. 2) As the target audience are there any outstanding stereotypes?
In terms of the stereotypes in the production the audience didn't struggle to
identify that their were in fact 2 main characters, one was perceived as the
good person with the other being the bad and this was demonstrated through
the use of clothing each individual had. In terms of stereotypes this was the
main thing the audience could pick up on, but relating this to what we actually
involved in our production it was clear to see that though the Good guy was
dressed in smart attire the actions he was doing did not follow and this is an
enigma that builds up within the audience, as is the good guy really good?.
5. 3) Does the trailer make it clear that my film is a thriller movie?
The trailer we produced was done in the aim of providing a different experience
to our audience therefore we decided to challenge some of the usual
conventions which make up a thriller film. Within our very own production we
did not place a big importance on cue cards for the introduction of the
characters and instead felt that by not doing this it would leave a more
mysterious impact on the audience. The feedback we received varied in terms
of the idea that some people grasped our concept and thoroughly enjoyed what
they saw through the build up that was caused and the way the music added a
level of intenseness to what was actually going on, However at the same time
others argued that their was not enough action scenes even though they were
engaged throughout the trailer. so addressing this issue simply we didn't aim to
make an action thriller and though the aspect of adding more scenes that can
build up anticipation within the audience is true i feel we did this through other
means.
6. 4) Does the trailer make sense, and does is it clear in terms of narrative?
When asking about whether or not the trailers narrative made sense many
people had their own interpretation of what they assumed was going on but
from the producers point of view we didn't make the trailer with their being a
clear narrative that the audience were supposed to grasp, this is what leaves a
thrilling aspect to it as the audience should want to know what really is
happening and going on as lets not forget this is just the trailer after all. This is
important though as its clear to see some people enjoy to know what is actually
going on so in the future we will have to adapt our production to meet this
requirement of the audience.
7. 5) Are the costumes and props used in the trailer relevant for Thriller Movies?
I feel that the props that were used keep to the conventions of usual thriller
films as who doesn't know what the purpose of a gun is and this paired with a
leather glove gives a hitman type feel to the production. The use of clothing too
is something which every audience member we asked picked up on and the
advantage of using props and costumes is that they are visual cues for the
audience to form judgements about what's going on themselves.
8. From these questions alone, as part of my feedback it allowed me to
understand what things went well and what things could be improved. So
overall i feel this feedback was very useful for me to carry out as i received a
mixture of opinions about my work and this has now helped me to understand
that in the future there are other elements which need to be thought about
when making a production to meet the needs of a given audience.
