Female.
Weak- Holding onto her arm from behind to
suggest that she is insecure with herself, and
that she still has parts of herself that she
wants to hold on to.
Likes to keep her thoughts to herself
and has a closed personality that
she won’t open up for others.
Weak- Facial expressions suggest that she
is putting on a fake smile around her
parents grave so she does not upset them.
High angle shot when Vanessa and the
grave are in the shot together, suggests that
she feels small when she is around it.
Weak- Visits her parents grave
instead of talking to others,
shows she loves her parents.
Dialogue suggests that she is bullied for
the fact that her parents are dead. Her
parents were her strength so she visits
their grave to get it back.
Weak- She talks to her
parents grave suggesting that
she has no one else to speak
to about her problems
She hides herself
and keeps quiet
about problems at
school yet she still
feels like talking to
her parents will
get things sorted
out in the long
term.
Weak- Music is light and
saddening, this would
suggest that she is
reminiscing in the good
times that she had with her
parents. It proves that she
will never forget and that
she blames herself for their
deaths.
Weak- The coat that Vanessa wears
signifies that she wants to hide
herself in it and she also has her
hood up to cover any outside
sounds.
Male.
Strong- Music that plays when he is in the scene cuts out
the peaceful music that was playing when it was just
Vanessa showing he has control over the scene.
His footsteps can’t be heard when he
enters the scene as if he is trying to be
stealthy.
Strong- Hides his emotions so that he is
more difficult to be able to understand.
He has the same facial expression throughout
the whole of the opening showing that he is able
to hide his emotions, works with the stereotype
that men are not meant to show emotions.
Strong- His movements suggest that he is hiding
something as he is able to make the audience
worry for Vanessa.
When Samuel reaches into
his pocket it would be
implying that he is
reaching to get something
out this could be a weapon
or something else.
Strong- His posture shows that he
is powerful as he is standing up
while Vanessa is kneeling down.
The status of the two characters
shows that he is in charge of the
scene as he is looking down on her
while she is unable to see her.
Strong- The leather jacket that he wares shows that he
is quite wealthy and that he is able to buy things for
quite a lot of money.
The two characters are both shown differently through their strengths and weaknesses, as the male character is the one who
is in charge of most of the scenes as the music changes when he is in the scene and he is unable to be heard when he is
entering the scene, the female character though is seen as more weak and defenseless as her body language suggests that
she is insecure with herself, the music that is used when the two characters are it the scene change drastically depending on
who it is that the camera is focusing on, the calm yet sad music is describing Vanessa without her saying anything and the
deep and ominous music brings the tone down and describes the impact that Samuel will have on the story. The facial
expressions also show that the two genders that we portrayed are different because they both are different when they are on
screen, Vanessa looks as if she is trying to put on a fake smile as she would feel the guilt for her parents death, yet Samuel
has no emotion on his face an looks more plain compared to each other its as if they are the opposite of each other, as
Samuel would normally show more emotion but doesn’t in this scene and Vanessa shows less emotion normally but fakes it
when she visits her parents grave. Another thing to add is the costumes that the two characters were waring, as it looked like
a cold day due the coat that Vanessa had on, this is a way that we also managed to divide the two characters as Vanessa wore
a big coat with her hood up Samuel had a leather jacket that was quite thin in comparison, this makes it look as if Vanessa is
keeping herself in a bubble whilst Samuels leather jacket shows that he is free and that he is also quite wealthy.
We decided that we were going to portray that the female character is weak and that the male character is strong, this
was done through multiple ways such as, body language, facial expressions, costume, use of music and posture.

  • 1. Female. Weak- Holding onto her arm from behind to suggest that she is insecure with herself, and that she still has parts of herself that she wants to hold on to. Likes to keep her thoughts to herself and has a closed personality that she won’t open up for others. Weak- Facial expressions suggest that she is putting on a fake smile around her parents grave so she does not upset them. High angle shot when Vanessa and the grave are in the shot together, suggests that she feels small when she is around it. Weak- Visits her parents grave instead of talking to others, shows she loves her parents. Dialogue suggests that she is bullied for the fact that her parents are dead. Her parents were her strength so she visits their grave to get it back. Weak- She talks to her parents grave suggesting that she has no one else to speak to about her problems She hides herself and keeps quiet about problems at school yet she still feels like talking to her parents will get things sorted out in the long term. Weak- Music is light and saddening, this would suggest that she is reminiscing in the good times that she had with her parents. It proves that she will never forget and that she blames herself for their deaths. Weak- The coat that Vanessa wears signifies that she wants to hide herself in it and she also has her hood up to cover any outside sounds.
  • 2. Male. Strong- Music that plays when he is in the scene cuts out the peaceful music that was playing when it was just Vanessa showing he has control over the scene. His footsteps can’t be heard when he enters the scene as if he is trying to be stealthy. Strong- Hides his emotions so that he is more difficult to be able to understand. He has the same facial expression throughout the whole of the opening showing that he is able to hide his emotions, works with the stereotype that men are not meant to show emotions. Strong- His movements suggest that he is hiding something as he is able to make the audience worry for Vanessa. When Samuel reaches into his pocket it would be implying that he is reaching to get something out this could be a weapon or something else. Strong- His posture shows that he is powerful as he is standing up while Vanessa is kneeling down. The status of the two characters shows that he is in charge of the scene as he is looking down on her while she is unable to see her. Strong- The leather jacket that he wares shows that he is quite wealthy and that he is able to buy things for quite a lot of money.
  • 3. The two characters are both shown differently through their strengths and weaknesses, as the male character is the one who is in charge of most of the scenes as the music changes when he is in the scene and he is unable to be heard when he is entering the scene, the female character though is seen as more weak and defenseless as her body language suggests that she is insecure with herself, the music that is used when the two characters are it the scene change drastically depending on who it is that the camera is focusing on, the calm yet sad music is describing Vanessa without her saying anything and the deep and ominous music brings the tone down and describes the impact that Samuel will have on the story. The facial expressions also show that the two genders that we portrayed are different because they both are different when they are on screen, Vanessa looks as if she is trying to put on a fake smile as she would feel the guilt for her parents death, yet Samuel has no emotion on his face an looks more plain compared to each other its as if they are the opposite of each other, as Samuel would normally show more emotion but doesn’t in this scene and Vanessa shows less emotion normally but fakes it when she visits her parents grave. Another thing to add is the costumes that the two characters were waring, as it looked like a cold day due the coat that Vanessa had on, this is a way that we also managed to divide the two characters as Vanessa wore a big coat with her hood up Samuel had a leather jacket that was quite thin in comparison, this makes it look as if Vanessa is keeping herself in a bubble whilst Samuels leather jacket shows that he is free and that he is also quite wealthy. We decided that we were going to portray that the female character is weak and that the male character is strong, this was done through multiple ways such as, body language, facial expressions, costume, use of music and posture.
