• Detailed analysis of front cover:

The magazine Top of the pops is aimed at teenagers, mostly girls, as the background colour and
font writing is pink, and a yellow background is used behind a pink heading which is connotated
towards girls. The masthead of the magazine cover indicates to the audience straight away
that the magazine is about popular music in the charts, and the background picture being the
boy band The Jonas Brothers also tells us this as their audience is mainly teenage girls who listen
to their pop style of music. The cover stories and pull stories grab the readers attention and
are effective, as they use some like ‘No more secrets!’ making the reader want to read the article
to find out what secrets their telling. ‘Strictly confidential’ is another pull quote making the
reader interested, and the buzz-word. ‘Exposed!’ tell us theirs celebrity gossip involved so the
audience will want to buy the magazine to find out what information is being released. They also
use effective smaller images around the sides of the magazine of A-list celebrities which are very
popular in the media, so the pull quotes they have next to the images of them will engage
readers who may not like the magazine very much but may be fans of the celebrity, so this could
help sell the magazine to wider audiences.

                                           the audience
• Detailed analysis of contents page

The contents page of the magazine uses a lot of colour schemes and pictures to match the target
audience, which is teenage girls. The heading used tells us that the magazine is for girls because it
is on a bright pink background which stands out a lot, and the colour pink is connotated with girls.
The headings are effective for pulling readers in as they stand out and say things like ’Wins and
Offers’, and ‘Celebs and gossip’ making the audience interested to see what things they can win,
and make them want to buy it if it is a good prize. The pictures on the contents page attract the
audience as they are pictures of celebrities such as Selena Gomez who is very popular on Disney
shows, and with teenage audience, making them want to see what information is being told about
her if they are fans of her. Also One direction are in a smaller image, also bringing their fans in to
buy them as they want to see what gossip they could find out about the band.

                                     and pink
• Detailed analysis of double page spread

• The double page spread of the Top of the pops magazine shows its target audience by the
colour scheme, and the pictures used for the articles. The colour scheme for the font and
background colours are repeated all the way through the magazine, the colours used are
pink, yellow and white. The fonts are all different, however they are all very bold and stand
out a lot to draw the readers attention to them. They also use small bits of information in
their own parts to make them stand out more from the rest of the article, and words used
are pull quotes to grab the readers attention by picking out interesting gossip.
Conclusion
In my magazine I am going to;
• Repeat the colour scheme and font style from one page to the other.
• On my cover page I am going to have the same layout of a big background picture of the
student, a masthead which stands out and different little pictures of other articles and pull
quotes to draw the audience in.
• Put more than one picture on the contents page to show different things in the articles.
• I am going to use a similar colour scheme to the one in the Top of the pops magazine, as my
magazine is also going to be Pop genre and target the same audience.
• On my double page spread I am not going to have so many pictures, as I am going to save
more room for an interesting article and just have one medium sized picture.
• On my contents page I am going to put big page numbers and detailed page contents.

  • 6. • Detailed analysis of double page spread • The double page spread of the Top of the pops magazine shows its target audience by the colour scheme, and the pictures used for the articles. The colour scheme for the font and background colours are repeated all the way through the magazine, the colours used are pink, yellow and white. The fonts are all different, however they are all very bold and stand out a lot to draw the readers attention to them. They also use small bits of information in their own parts to make them stand out more from the rest of the article, and words used are pull quotes to grab the readers attention by picking out interesting gossip.
  • 7. Conclusion In my magazine I am going to; • Repeat the colour scheme and font style from one page to the other. • On my cover page I am going to have the same layout of a big background picture of the student, a masthead which stands out and different little pictures of other articles and pull quotes to draw the audience in. • Put more than one picture on the contents page to show different things in the articles. • I am going to use a similar colour scheme to the one in the Top of the pops magazine, as my magazine is also going to be Pop genre and target the same audience. • On my double page spread I am not going to have so many pictures, as I am going to save more room for an interesting article and just have one medium sized picture. • On my contents page I am going to put big page numbers and detailed page contents.
