What is Workload?
• Workload collectively represent the usage of
system resources by units such as:
– Transactions
– Jobs
– Programs
– Sessions or Tasks
• The same workload maybe represented
differently at different technology layers like app
(transaction), DB (session), and OS (process)
• Workload comes in all shapes and sizes: many
small bursts, or few large and long processes

Why Monitor Workloads?
• Performance:
– Workloads are the basic unit of performance which measures how
much work can be done (bandwidth/capacity), and how fast they can
complete (throughput) with a given set of configured
resources (configuration)
– Service Level such as response times, processing windows
• Capacity & Configuration:
– If workload and their required performance is not known, how can an
environment’s capacity be provisioned, configured and scaled to meet
service level objectives?
• Baseline & Trend:
– Workloads and their performance are rarely static, the same workload
may perform differently when capacity is shared with other workload
– Workload monitoring requires no thresholds, just capture the
performance stats of those meeting specific criteria

• SAP CCMS Transaction SLA:
– Rudimental Transaction Code (TCODE) response time per
app server/client, smoothed out per interval in RZ20

statistical records from historical reporting perspective,
detail transaction record but without context
• Solution Manager: IT Performance Report, EarlyWatch
