Lies My Teacher Told Me Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic "Lies My Teacher Told Me" can be a challenging endeavor. This
subject demands a critical examination of historical narratives, educational materials, and societal
perspectives. Delving into the intricacies of misinformation within educational settings requires
meticulous research, analytical skills, and a keen eye for uncovering hidden truths.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the vast array of historical events and figures
that have been potentially misrepresented. It necessitates an in-depth understanding of the
subject matter, the ability to discern between fact and fiction, and the courage to challenge
commonly accepted beliefs. Moreover, addressing the impact of these inaccuracies on students'
perceptions and understanding of the world adds another layer of complexity to the essay.
Another challenge is presenting a nuanced argument that acknowledges the complexities of
historical narratives while maintaining a coherent and persuasive thesis. Balancing the critique of
misleading information with constructive suggestions for improving the educational system
requires finesse in argumentation and a comprehensive grasp of the topic.
Furthermore, writing on such a topic demands sensitivity to diverse perspectives and a
commitment to fostering a constructive dialogue rather than simply debunking myths. Engaging
with different viewpoints and historical interpretations requires a careful and respectful approach
to avoid alienating readers who may hold varying opinions.
In conclusion, tackling the "Lies My Teacher Told Me" essay necessitates a combination of
research skills, critical thinking, and a thoughtful approach to presenting alternative perspectives.
It is a task that goes beyond mere exposition, requiring the writer to navigate a complex terrain
of historical truths and biases. For those seeking assistance with such essays or exploring a
broader range of topics, various resources are available, including professional writing services

What Americanism Mean To Me
Americanism. According to the dictionary it means a characteristic feature of
English as used in the United States. To me it means a lot more than that. It means
three main things to me like freedom, all of our needs are. When I hear the word
freedom, I think about freedom of speech and the freedom of choice. In America,
we have the freedom of speech. We can say what we want to say anytime we want
to say it. The power of speech is often abused. People in America often do not realize
how lucky they are to. Another thing that I think Americanism means is freedom of
choice. From the time children are born and until they go off on their own, the parent
or guardian tries to choose what is best for the child. Children choose their own
destiny while
Water Fowl Hunting Research Paper
Across the United States of America, water fowl hunting is one of the most popular
hunting sports that occurs every year during the autumn and winter seasons. Hunters
spread out over wide range of areas across the United States to take a shot at geese,
ducks, and other well known game birds. Water fowl huntingcan be done in crop
fields or on a river. When a shot goes up over half the shots taken pellets are falling
towards a field or wet land area. Concerns have been made and laws and regulations
against Lead Shots are being adjusted. The new laws and regulations are requiring
water fowl hunters who use traditional lead shot ammunition are now to use steel
shots when water fowl hunting. (White)
Lead Ammunition has been the traditional form of ammunition for over many
decades now. Many hunters have been using lead ammunition since the early 1960 s.
Ammunition manufactures started creating shot gun shells that are made of red
plastic and contain over a minimum of twenty or more lead pellets in each shell.
Some shells very in different sizes and contain different amounts of lead pellets for
different hunting uses. These shells were made to have a high killing power when
hunting waterfowl. Such a tiny lead pellet has become a very big ... Show more

Steel shot ammunition pellets weigh less than a steel pellet does. They have a less
kill power than a lead pellet. They come in the same shot gun shells as lead does but
they have more pellets inside giving them a stronger force. Just like the lead pellet
shells they vary in different shell sizes for different hunting uses. Steel shells give a
cleaner shot that will help the game bird bleed more freely without getting the pellet
stuck inside its body. The most important part about this substitution is the steel
pellets are eliminating lead poisoning from
Sexual Violence In Correctional Facilities
Correctional institutions are the institutions that serve as rehabilitation centers with
aims of correcting offensive acts. The most common corrective institution is a prison
that serves not only as a corrective facility but also serves as a venue to instill
vocational skills and academic knowledge to inmates. Correctional institution set ups
have similar shape or characteristic as that of an organization with a chain of
command right from the top to the bottom (Blackburn, n.d)
Despite correctional facilities being avenues for behavior corrections, many offensive
behaviors are prevalent. These behaviors or offenses include; rape, sexual violence
among others criminal offences. According to Dumond Dumond (2015), there is a
very stinging need ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The mandate of the Act is to address the nature and extend of Prison Sex Violence
(PSV) through a multi stepped method or strategy. The National Institute of Justice
(NIJ), Bureau of Justice Statistics (BIJ) and Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) were
the agencies tasked with implementing the Prison Rape Elimination Act.
How are correctional facilities addressing issues of rape and sexual violence?
According to Jayewardene (1981) a number of steps have been taken by several
correctional facilities in different states to address sexual violence in correctional set
up. They include;
i.Having written policies specifically related Prison Sex Violence. In some
correctional facilities, successful investigation, prevention and response to such
cases were reported. ii. Existence of Department of Corrections written policies that
seems to be working. iii. The introduction of Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003
which proves to be a successful tool in addressing sex and violence in

Service Gaps In Little Haiti
Service Gaps. One of the gaps in services and resources in Little Haiti identified is
in education. All of the public schools in Little Haiti have a grade of either C or D (
Miami Dade County Public Schools, n.d.). These schools with below average
achievement scores do not benefit the children attending who are coming from a
community that has a below average high schooldiploma rate. As the workforce
continues to become more competitive, college educationis going to begin to replace
high schooldiplomas as a prerequisite for the majority of jobs. If the public education
system does not begin to provide education that not only aids these youth in obtaining
high school diplomas but additionally supports their advancement through college,
than this community will not be able to move ahead with society. There is a high
concentration of Haitian Americans holding low skill, low wage jobs. Understanding
that Haiti is one of the poorest countries and that immigrants came to the United
States with no formal education, necessary steps need to be taken to ensure that each
generation has an opportunity to advance obtain this education and advance their
community a bit more (Sohmer, Jackson, Katz, Warren, 2005). There are a couple
ways this writer would begin to address this gap. First, the schools need to initiate or
strength their parent association programs. Parents should receive ongoing education
on student progress, areas needing improvement, and ways to best support
The Similarities Between The Ancient And Modern Olympic
Games
While there are clear contrasts between the ancient and the modern Olympics there
is still the respect for the athlete striving to perform at the highest level. Today, the
Olympic Games are the world s largest carnival of athletic skill and competitive
spirit. They are displays of nationalism, commerce, and politics. These important
elements of the Olympics are not a modern invention, as the first Olympics was in
776 BC in Ancient Greece. After 1503 years, in 1896 the Olympic Gameswere
recreated as what we know today. The Ancient Games were once dedicated to the
Olympian God, Zeus Olympios and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia,
which is also how the word Olympics originated from. The modern Olympics is the
largest international sporting event, which feature both summer and winter sports
competitions in which thousands of respectable athletes from over 200 different
nations compete against one another. There are clear contrast between the modern
and ancient forms of the Olympic Games regarding uniforms, participants, religion,
events, politics and the concept of amateurism. However both the Ancient Greeks and
the people in the modern world still respect and admire the athletics achievements of
the participants making the Olympics the most highly regarded contest in sport.
The Olympic Games, was once a significant athletic festival that originated in ancient
Greece as a religious festival which was revived in the late 19th century as a secular
competition to
The Pros And Cons Of David And Goliath
Underdog, a term that we are all too familiar with, has classified disadvantages in
life for centuries. Little do we know that there is no such thing as being an
underdog, it is simply just a myth. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of David and
Goliath, explains through a series of real life stories how some of the biggest
disadvantages can really be an advantage. The three sectioned book goes into
explicit detail on the advantages of disadvantages (Gladwell pg.18), theory of
desirable difficulty (Gladwell pg. 97), and the limit of power (Gladwell pg. 195).
Along with the book David and goliath is the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Jamal, the
main character in Slumdog Millionaire, along with the people in the book, are the
epitome of an underdog. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If anyone understands what it is like to be a misfit, it is the people of Le
Chambon, descendants of protestant Huguenots. The Huguenots were forced to
flee France to different countries in the late seventeenth century. The ones that
that stayed lived underground or in remote areas, they were forced to learn the art
of evasion and disguise in order to survive (Gladwell, p.269). AndrГ© TrocmГ©,
the pastor of Le Chambon, helped hide Jews during WWII. Later in the war, when
the Gestapo stepped up their scrutiny of Le Chambon, TrocmГ© was forced to flee
(Gladwell, p.272). Having no place to go he helped move Jews into Switzerland.
TrocmГ© moved from town to town, carrying false papers (Gladwell, p. 272).
Eventually he was arrested, then released. Upon being released he revealed who
he truly was. Just like AndrГ© TrocomГ©, Jamal had a home that he was forced to
flee from. He had to learn the arts of evasion and disguise. As a boy, he went to the
Taj Mahal and pretended like he was a guide for the Americans. When they
questioned his knowledge against the guide book he responded saying, The guide
book was written by a bunch of lazy good for nothing Indian beggars! (Jamal,
Slumdog millionaire, 2018). He eventually got chased off the property and took
Americans on tours to places in India. At one point, he took a couple to his home
town. While they were out walking, people came and took everything, including
the tires on the vehicle. The driver began to beat Jamal after that and he said to the
couple, You wanted to see a bit of the real India? Well here it is! (Jamal, Slumdog
Millionaire, 2018). He was trying to show the couple just how bad India is. Jamal
had to learn at a young age how to survive alone with his brother in the streets of
India. They became the masters of evasion and disguise. If it was not for learning
these skills they would not have been able to save Latika, let alone

A Day At The Meadowlands Flea Market
Growing up in such a majorly diversified city, and having attended public schools
all of my life, I barely encountered racism of any sort. It was something that was not
discussed often in my home or anywhere else, outside of my knowledge of slavery s
history in America or what I ve seen in movies. Having friends and family from so
many different countries, backgrounds, and ethnicities, it was tough relating to any
direct form of discrimination that I know others around me have encountered. Then,
there was that day ...at the Meadowlands Flea Market. Here... In New Jersey, the
learned hatred for people of color stared me right in face, as if it was my time to
finally confront something I have never been exposed to. This was one of many life
changing events that has happened to me, though it happened at least 10 years ago,
the memory is as fresh as yesterday s occurrences. This very moment opened my
eyes to a new respect for any other minority or anyone who has endured racismand
discrimination.
Springtime in New Jersey meant finally taking the coats off and enjoying some
outdoor fun, festivals, carnivals, flea markets and such. One Saturday morning my
mom and grandmother decided we all should take a drive Rutherford to check out
the flea market that comes around annually. Located right in the parking lots of the
Meadowlands Racetrack was my favorite because of the great food of course and
hundreds of people from all over the state were there to shop. As we arrive to the flea
Comparing Hobbes s Leviathan And The Grand Inquisitor
The Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes and the Grand Inquisitor by Fyodor Dostoevsky,
are both important works that share the views of two men on human nature. The
Leviathan by Hobbes is one of the most influential pieces of all time. Many great
philosophers got inspiration from Hobbes writing and based their views on it. The
Grand Inquisitor is considered one of the most well know pieces of writing. The
main reasons for it being so well known is because of its ideas of human nature and
freedom. Both works, The Leviathanand the Grand Inquisitor, share their views on,
human nature and priority, the role of freedom in people s lives and when would it
be right to have an all powerful leader who controls everything. The Leviathan by
Thomas Hobbes, concerns the structure of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He saids how fear drives everything and how fear is the reason for the creation of
God. The fear that created God was the fear of what would eventually happen to
man. He saids that religion comes from three sources they are the curiosity into
what causes events, curiosity of the causes of these causes and forgetting the order
of things and past causes and effects. So if something happens and no one knows
why it happens or the cause of it, it becomes the work of god. His view on religion
is that is has been used wrong; it makes people obedient to a self serving authority.
If something goes wrong the important people in the religion will claim that it is a
work of God. The reason why this is an issue is since people don t know what
really caused the issue they won t blame the government who is truly at fault for the
issues. Hobbes believes that nature created everyone the same and the difference
between people is very small, so according to Hobbes man can thereupon claim to
himself any benefit to which another may not pretend as well as he (Hobbes). He also

Essay on Kane, Gatsby, And The American Dream
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed
by Orson Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both
represent the American dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all
about time and the American dream; it is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both
Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American dream, and as we read into
their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined that it is hard to
see them apart. Other key factors play into this such as the failed pursuit of love
and being in a sea of admirers and feeling like you are the only person there. Jay

Unlike Gatsby however, Kane would like to relive his childhood, something
Gatsby destroyed. Kane s last utterance, rosebud is a large standing testament to
his want to return to childhood. Throughout the movie we see him as a large,
powerful figure that is newsworthy for scandals and successes among other things.
We realize though that the things that made him who he was, were not the things
that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and
although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And
the last word, rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we
understand of him, and it is essentially him being at his most venerable and most
alone time. When he leaves his family he is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher
is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does not develop Kane or even
try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a lifestyle of
loneliness. This loneliness extends into his business deals as he takes the world by
storm. Scandal suppresses both Kane and Gatsby, Gatsby loses his life because of it
and Kane loses an election that he had in the
The National Security Strategy (NSS) Report
Background:
According to section 603 of the Goldwater Nichols Reorganization Act of 1986
(codified at 50 U.S.C. В§ 404a), the U.S. President is required to transmit to
Congress each year a comprehensive report on the national security strategy of the
United States. The overarching goal of the National Security Strategy (NSS) report is
to outline the global interests, goals, and objectives of the United States that are vital
to its national security.
Introduction:
The National Security Strategy (NSS) document represents a broad collection of
different sensibilities and offers a tentative synthesis of different if not contradictory
beliefs of American officials inside the administration. The document serves to set
administration priorities inside the government and communicate them to Congress,
the American people and the world. It also is intended as a framework for strategy
documents produced by other parts of the government, including the Pentagon s
national defense strategy. The NSS is not strictly a formal exercise; in practice it
serves as a reference and justification for actual policy choices. In the coming months,
the current administration will frequently quote this document to present and justify

femininity without being silenced. However, despite any struggle she comes across,
she always knows that there is some happiness coming in the process, even if it is

there are five sexes: female, male, herms, merms, and ferms. This article outraged

not their hormones or chromosomes. In more recent days there are clinics that

He suggested that the surgeons should do the surgery that makes the most sense for
each child, and then the parents should raise them to be the gender that the doctors
surgically transformed them into. He thought his treatments were working until one
of his patients became an author and told the story of his life. Since John/Joan lost
his male parts at birth, Dr. money gave him female genitals and suggested he be
raised as a girl. The problem was he wanted to be a man. John/Joan s story sparked
other people to speak up about their rejected sex assignments. Next, McCullough
gave a speech at LWPES that argued all the forms of intersexuality should be seen as
normal, and doctors should avoid irreversible assignments. The author Sterling
believes that treatment should be ethical and medical principles with a more casual

Innocence
Soft coos bubble from the creature that lay within the mother s arms and big, round
eyes stare up through the folds of the blanket. The mother cannot look away from
this creature s guileless stare; her arms tighten around the swaddle of blankets.
These eyes, holding only curiosity, are the eyes of a child; are the eyes of
innocence. Here, innocence is easy defined and identified, however, the definition of
innocence cannot be limited to children. Maya Angelo, a life long civil rights
activist, William Blake, blah blah blah, and Walt Whitman, a delegate for democracy,
display the many layers of innocence in their own lives through their poetry. The
rhyme and meter in Africa by Maya Angelou, Introduction of Songs of Innocence by
William Blake, and Had I the Choice by Walt Whitman reveals each author s desire
for uniqueness on the theme of innocence.
In Africa , the author uses dimeter and then erratic meter in later stanzas to add onto
the motif of stolen innocence. The author uses two feet per line, such as sugar cane
sweet (Africa, 855) in the first stanza to display the childlike purity of the continent.
The meter is uncomplicated and easy to identify reflecting the African way of life.
Africa, before white exploration, was a joyful and beautiful place to live in. Equally
important is the acceleration of the rhythm of the poem by the dimeter found in the
first stanza. Through the speeding beat, Angelou displays the fleeting nature of Africa
s innocence. Africa
Life Of A College Freshman
Whether you are a monster or a human you will find that in life there are going to
obstacles that you must overcome. The life of a college freshman is no different
than the life outside of college. By analyzing the main characters in the movies in
Back to School (BTS) and Monsters University (MU) we can see the direct effects
college has on these students lives. The similarities and differences of the movie
BTS and MU, reveal stereotypical incoming attitudes, the reasons for attendance,
and the lessons learned of closely connected, college freshman. In the movie MU,
one of the main characters is James Sullivan, or as more commonly known as
Sully. Living on the previous successes of his family, particularly his father, Sully
felt he had a lot to prove to his peers and professors. Which ultimately led to him
meeting, Mike, who would become his most unlikely, best friend. If we take a look
at Sully s stature we see that he possesses an innate ability to scare. His natural
scaring qualities ranged from his height and muscle, to his sharp, frightening teeth,
giving him an advantage that many other students did not possess. Taking into
account all of this information, it is no wonder that Sully did not have a goal for
going to college. It is this very point where we see a contrast between Sully and
Thornton from BTS. One of the similarities between Sully and Thornton are their
backgrounds. Just as Sully had a successful family, similarly Thornton did as well.
Why Is Bill C-14 Unconstitutional
I am against Bill C 14 which has been ratified into Canadian law on the basis that it is
unconstitutional. Every Canadian has the right, just by virtue of having Canadian
citizenship, to have sovereignty over their own self. Because Bill C 14 will in some
circumstances permit people to take the life of another, it undermines the individual s
right to have complete ownership over his/her own body, and is therefore
unconstitutional.
The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms which is entrenched into the
constitution offers a guarantor of individual sovereignty, which states that Everyone
has the right to life, liberty and security of the person and the right not to be deprived
thereof except in accordance with the principles of fundamental
Explain Why Andrew Jackson Should Not Be On The 20

Have you ever lost your home, family, and friends? That s what happened to 16,000
Cherokees who were forced to move west. Andrew Jackson was a general and the
7th president of America. In his years of presidency, he did expand America and did
good and bad things depending on perspective. He forced Native Americans out of
their lands and if they refused they were slaughtered. In my opinion, Andrew Jackson
should not be on the 20 dollar bill because he relocated Native Americans,
slaughtered Native Americans who refused to leave their homes, and he traded
slaves. One reason Andrew Jackson should not be on the 20 dollar bill is that he
relocated Native Americans. He kicked Native Americans out of their lands,
leaving everything and their childhood and valued lands. According to this website
The trail continued west into Oklahoma, a total distance of nearly 1,000 miles
(Neal Lineback, 2013), the trail of tears. They traveled only to have unexplored
lands, three fourths of their colony dead, bad weather, and only to be eventually
kicked off again by the ever expanding Americans who want more land. This means

Argumentative Essay On Rodeo
The fans, the bulls, the broncs, the calves, the best riders in the country, over one
million dollars at stake: this is the rodeo. Well over one hundred animals compete in
one rodeo event. A major concern is the health and well being of the animals that
compete in the top rodeos all across America and the world. Many people are
concerned that certain tools and techniques are used to hurt and provoke the animals.
They are also concerned that there aren t enough rules and regulations to protect
these animals from cruelty. These animals are not abused in the rodeo and are in fact
treated with a lot of respect. There are certain rules and regulations, safety techniques
and technology, and proper care and treatment for the animals by ProRodeo and...

This viewpoint of the rule is blown out of context. The rule R9.9 of the PRCA
rulebook does state, No stock shall be confined or transported in vehicles beyond a
period of 24 hours without being unloaded, properly fed and watered (PRCA 214).
Yet this is only rare cases. A majority of the time they are unloaded before the 24
hour mark. On the other hand, the PBR requires that the bulls only travel up to ten
hours before being unloaded and must be given an equal amount of time to rest
before traveling again. All PBR trailers have air suspension to allow comfort of the
cells as they travel. The PBR values their bovine athletes so much that in
November 2006, the PBR had the opportunity to ship bulls overseas to Hawaii for
the Hawaii All Star event. The shipping would have taken seven days to get the
bulls to Hawaii and it was cheaper. The PBR chose to fly the bulls in customized
containers to Hawaii instead of putting them on a ship. They chose this route
because they feared that shipping the bulls by boat would comprise the welfare of
the animals. The flight cost $350,00 to fly the bulls. When the bulls arrive at their
destination, to ensure the athletes rest well, the PBR requires all stalling pens for

Gang Codes Research Paper
The Gang Code
Our society revolves around a code , code of conduct, code of ethics honor code.
This is often seen in families, companies, military, law enforcement, organized
groups (includes street gangs) ideology groups and countries. Codes have been
around for centuries and have been documented and undocumented. Examples of
documented code are penal code, policy procedure manuals. Undocumented codes
are families (family values), street gangs ideology groups. Most common codes are
documented in the Penal Code at all three levels, city, state and federal government,
violations of the penal code results in punishment: from jail time, fine or both.
Families tend to regulate their own rules and consequences. Gangs also regulate
their own rules and also abide by a code similar to that of our military and law
enforcement, the code of honor. However, consequences in the street are more severe
and can result in severe physical punishment or death.

The Ban Should Not Be Banned
Ever since France introduced its so called burqa ban in 2011, there have been
many cases involving the Muslim women who choose to wear these veils. Not
only are understanding women being fined for their choice of dress, mainly the
niqab, which leaves a slit for the eyes, but an increasing number of defendants are
being tried for attacking them (Ramdani). The law only has affected a small
number of women; out of an estimated 5 million Muslims living in France, only
around 1,900 women were concerned by the ban in 2011 (Willsher). However, the
ban has made Muslim women in full face veils, or niqab banned from any public
activity including walking down the street, taking a bus, going to the shops or
collecting their children from school.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The main argument against the ban is that it infringes upon individual freedoms
such as freedom of religion and expression (Wade). Veils such as the chador,
scarves, and other headwear that do not cover the face, are not affected by this law
and can be worn. The law imposes a fine of up to 150 euro and/or participation in
citizenship education, for those who violate the law. The bill also penalizes, with
a fine of 30,000 euro and one year in prison, anyone who forces another wear face
coverings. As a result of the law, the only exceptions to a woman wearing a niqab
in public will be if she is traveling in a private car or worshipping in a religious
place. The law was challenged and taken to the European Court of Human Rights
which upheld the French law on the first of July, 2014, accepting the argument of
the French government that the law was based on a certain idea of living together
(Chrisafis, France s Headscarf War... ). However, after the implementation of this
law, verbal and physical abuse has increased toward women of the Muslim faith
wearing headwear. Islamophobic attacks in France more than doubled between 2011,
when the act was implemented and a year following in 2012, with women in
headscarves the principal target, accounting for seventy seven percent of victims of
physical or verbal attacks, according to the French Collective Against Islamophobia.

The Old Testament Language Of Joel 2
eschatology. Using the Old Testament language of Joel 2, Pentecostals referred to the
Spirit baptism event as the latter rain . This latter rain was a sign of the lasts days and
the immanent return of Christ.
How did they know that the latter rain was falling over them? This is where tongues
manifestation is crucial. Pentecostals believe that they had received xenolalia, human
language unknown to them. Thus, many believed that they were experiencing what
the disciples had experience in Acts 2. Hence, their understanding of Christ immanent
return together with the idea that they spoke a foreign human tongue became the
springboard for such missionary burst throughout the world. Anderson points out,
The idea of a world wide revival to precede the soon coming King became a
prominent theme in early Pentecostalism and was an important reason for frantic
mission activity that came in the movement s wake.
It is widely known, that early Pentecostal missionaries and the local people suffered
due to such eschatological urgency. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that even
through those sufferings God used these missionaries to spread the gospel to
unimaginable places.
In the last section, Lausanne Covenant agrees in principle to what is a Pentecostal
understanding of the last days. It says, We believe that the interim period between
Christ s ascension and return is to be filled with the mission of the people of God,
who have no liberty to stop before the end. Though the
Abstract Art Analysis
Harry Hopkins was the savior of art culture during the Great Depression, as a matter
of fact, Artists wasn t originally included in the New Deal development. President
Franklyn Roosevelt was not considering them as people who worked for a living,
strangely enough, he placed Hopkins in charge of the program. He believed the
artists had to generate earnings for their selves as well. The money they will spend in
the economy will help create jobs. The government treated the artist like employees
giving them paintings quotas. Federal Government wasn t governing the type of
painting being made by the artist. Majority of the artists expresses a political

The Ship Of Theseus Paradox Essay
The Ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus Paradox, is a thought experiment that
questions whether an object is fundamentally the same object after having all of its
parts replaced. The story goes that Theseus, a mythical hero of Athens, went on an
endeavor to kill the Minotaur who had been harassing the townspeople. When
Theseus returned successful, his ship was left in the harbor to commemorate his
victory. Consequently, the ship s planks had deteriorated and were replaced one by
one. Thus, the question begs: is this the same ship, or a different one? Throughout
this paper I will argue the stance that Theseus ship is not the same ship nor has it
ever been the same ship the second it left the port in which it was built. Theseus s
Paradox is entirely built upon perceptionsomeone s view of the ship is different (no
matter how minuscule) compared to the next person. Hence why philosophers differ
so much on the subject. However, the idea of human perception can be taken into
account when discussing this question. Because no answer to this question can be
true, is precisely why one answer has to be more true; the ship is different. Take into
consideration perception to apply an identity to an object means that the object was
perceived by an observer. The observer selects attributes of its subject in order to
serve his/her purpose; the attributes assigned to the subject become the basis for its
identity. Therefore, identity has no meaning apart from being a branch of
Ethical Issues In Correctional Facilities
Another ethical problem is that in correctional facilities it is not spoken openly
about transgender rights and what can be done to ensure safety for all no matter
their gender identity. In an article written by Asmar detailing the experience of
Hill, a transgender who identifies herself as a woman in a male prison, was raped
by her cellmate. Whenever she asked for help or reported what happened to her,
the staff did not believe her. For instance, when she was violently raped by her
cellmate she wrote a letter to a nurse who was handing out medications. The nurse s
response to her note was unethical and unprofessional as she asked her if it was real
and that ...it better be real (Asmar, 2015). There are many concerns with the nurse s
response.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Training classes will help nurses to understand the definitions and terms, being
empathic to transgender individuals in prison, and provide gender affirming
healthcare services (Wahowiak, 2016). It is also important to note what led them
to become incarcerated so that as a nurse you can help prevent them from being
incarcerated again. Treating transgender individuals with fairness, dignity, and
respect is extremely important because that is how you develop a nurse patient
relationship (NCCHC, 2015). Patient safety will also have an impact on the
profession of nursing as our mission is to protect, heal, and advocate for our
patients regardless of their gender identity. Transgender inmates are at risk for
violence and sexual assault or harassment. As nurses, it is our duty to ensure that
while they are incarcerated they are being treated equally, receiving the same
healthcare treatment as others and that we report any incidents. Housing should also
be addressed so that they can be housed based on their gender identity instead of
their genitalia. Previously mentioned, transgender individuals are denied their
medication because the healthcare system is indifferent to their needs and views it
as unimportant compared to the rest. In spite of this, what they fail to see is that if
they keep denying them their medications and sex reassignment surgery, they
become more liable because it will lead to self castration or mutilation. As a result,
they become responsible for what happens in prison and if they become ill from
catching an infection due to self castration the health professionals become
questionable. Questionable in the sense of, if it could have been prevented and
where did the staff fail in providing
Functionalist View On Society
Our world is constantly evolving as we make new and improved advances in
society. As the world changes, we fall into different groups. Some are made to be a
temporary group while others are permanently, such as being a part of a cheer team
or becoming a grandmother. These groups vary in size, importance, and behavior.
This leads to being a part of a culture called society. Society is a group of people
who interact and share a common culture. Everyone has different views on society
but can generally be summed up to fit into three paradigms that dominate sociological
thinking: structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism.
Functionalism Functionalism originates from English philosopher and biologist
Herbert Spencer. Functionalist view society as interrelated parts that work together
to meet the need of a function. Society is more than just individual parts but rather
each part is functional for the stability of the whole. Hebert Spencer (1820 1903),
who saw similarities between society and the human body; he argued that just as
the various organs of the body work together to keep the body functioning, the
various parts of society work together to keep society functioning (Spencer 1898).
Emile Durkheim elaborated on Spencer s view and saw society as an organism. For
example, our human body is made up of different organ systems that work together
so that we can breathe, walk, eat and live. Each organ plays a role but cannot function
as individuals to

us to don t give up when you fail.
The early life of Steve Wozniak s call to change started when he figured out that
people could not afford to buy a lot of technology, so he wanted to help. His parents

Steve Wozniak quotes, I simply took a year off to earn money for my fourth year of
school. And then my career kept going up. This quote is showing that he achieved
his goal to earn money and use that money to go to college and learn about
technology and engineering. (Seiter, Website) The technology he made and the goals
that were a success were all achievements that he had finished during his lifetime.
Steve Wozniak s career was full of traveling and excitement. Steve Wozniak
attended so many colleges. He first went to Colorado for college in his first year,
then De Anza Community College for his second year, and then for his 3rd year, he
went to Berkeley. (Wozniak and Smith, pg 71 and 119) He graduated with a bachelor
s degree in electrical engineering and computer sciences. (Seiter, Website) After
college, Wozniak has to do something to earn money.
Wozniak went to find jobs after graduating college. After finishing Berkeley in June,
he worked at a company called Electroglas. (Wozniak and Smith, pg 120) Then, he
switched jobs to work at Hewlett Packard in 1972 to make handheld calculators.

The Knowledge Of The Natural Sciences And History Based
On...
When the quote states, attempt to know the world , it is regarding the gain of
knowledge. This is because knowledge is the understanding of the physical world
surrounding us and beyond. Plato defined knowledge as justified, true belief,
meaning that for knowledge to be legitimate, it must be justified by sources such as
reason, empirical evidence or memory. Secondly, the term assumptions in the quote
should also be explored. According to the oxford dictionary, assumptions can be
defined as something that is accepted as true without proof . Therefore the quote is
stating that our knowledge of the world is based on a set of assumptions. The
second part of the assertion produces the knowledge issues of the inability of testing
the knowledge. The oxford dictionary defines tested as taking measurements to check
the reliability of the something. Therefore, a key question that comes from this quote
is: To what extent are all knowledge in the natural sciences and history based on
assumptions and is it possible to test it s reliability?
The first knowledge issue from this quote is that the knowledge gained from the
physical world is based on things that without proof. This knowledge issue can be
interlinked with the area of knowledge of natural sciences. The natural sciences study
the rules that govern the natural world by applying an empirical and scientific method
to study of the universe. It is considered on of the more objective area of knowledge

Papyrus Essay
During biblical times especially in the New Testament era, producing an epistle or
letter was laborious, costly, and timely undertaking. In order to produce letters,
epistles, or writings, many writers would use skilled scribes or amanuenses to
compose the information on papyrus. According to D.A. Carson and Douglas Moo,
the method employed by an amanuensis greatly differed contingent upon the skills of
the scribe and the relationship between the writer and amanuensis. However, the
technique and freedom inherited in this role allowed the amanuenses flexibility in
scripting the author s views. The standard material used in writingwas reed pen and
ink, and transcribed on papyrus. Thomas Lea and David Black shares depending on
the size of the letters, each sheet could hold 150 250 words. If the writings are

There were many biblical manuscripts produced in the names of ancient canonical
figures such as Noah, Abraham, Daniel, Enoch, Ezra, and Moses. The Christian
movement did not end this manufacturing of pseudonymous works as many scholars
question the authenticity of Ephesians, the Pastoral Epistles, 2 Peter, Colossians, 2
Thessalonians, and 1 Peter. It can be easily inferred that the New Testament
Christians used some pseudepigraphic method in their writings. In 1 and 2
Thessalonians there are differences of opinions on the apocalyptic signs of the arrival
of Christ. First Thessalonians allude to the event happening as like a thief in the

How The United States Lost The Vietnam War
President Dwight Eisenhower conditionally pledged to support South Vietnam s
new nation in 1955. In the time period between 1955 1961 the United States
pumped seven billion dollars in aid so that Vietnam would not go over quickly like a
row of dominoes (McNamara 31). In the next 6 years Vietnam would cost America
billions of dollars, thousands of lives, and the disaffection of much of the United
States public. Yet in the end, South Vietnamwould fall to the North less than 2 years
after the United States military involvement ceased. From the year 1955 when the
United States vowed to help support the South Vietnamese fight off the Northern

the DRV launched a local and controlled attack against C. Turner Joy and the U.S.S.

in the United States government giving Lyndon Johnson the ability to make war

Compared to 1962 when only 9,000 soldiers supported the South Vietnamese, by June

than 120 billion dollars on the Vietnam War in efforts to stop the spread of

The Middle Passage Was A Major Aspect Of The
Triangular...
The middle passage was a major aspect of the triangular trade, which involves the
illegitimate trading of African captives in exchange for manufactured goods from the
Europeans who later transport the African captives to the Atlantic world and then
exchange them for raw materials from the Atlantic traders. The trading of the
African captives to the Europeans in exchange for manufactured goods was
executed by the African middle men. The African middle men were also responsible
for the kidnapping of the African captives and purchasing of African prisoners who
were later sold to the Europeans. Hence, the middle passage was the route the
Europeans took in the transporting of millions of African captives from the coast of
Africato the Atlantic world. The trading and forced migration of African captives
from Africa along the middle passage to the Americas is known as the transatlantic
slave trade.
African middle men would go into the inner part of Africa in search of young and
able African males and females to sell to the European traders. The African
captives would then be kept in a dungeon for weeks, even months waiting to be
sold to the Europeans. In the course of their captivity in the dungeon the African
captives were provided little or no food or water to eat or drink. The African middle
men would put fifty to hundred captives in a dungeon and would feed them once a
day in order to spend less resources in the managing of the African captives which

giving up when others gave up on him.
The life of Joe Rantz was very hectic and filled with many changes. He was born on
March 34th, 1914 in Spokane, Washington to Nellie and Harry Rantz. He lived a
relatively easygoing and normal life up till the age of 4 when his mother died. After

So Joe s life in exile began. Although Joe was able to care for himself, his life had
become sad, narrow, and lonely. On a stormy day in November of 1924 Joe s life
yet again changed. Thula had gone into labor with their third child but it took all
night for them to get to the doctor so that she could deliver their first girl, Rose.
That was Thula s last straw.. A few weeks later they packed up once again, picked
up Joe from the school house and went live in Thula s parent s basement in Alki
Point, Seattle. By 1925 Harry bought an auto repair and tire shop in Sequim,
Washington. He was enrolled at the school in Sequim which he attended everyday,
this is where he met his childhood sweetheart and the woman that he would
eventually marry, Joyce Simdars. One day when Joe was coming back from
school he saw his family in their black car as if they were never coming back.
Harry told Joe that they were leaving and that since Joe was all grown up he was
going to stay in Sequim, alone. So yet again Joe was abandoned in a half finished
house with no money and no one to help him. Soon after, he got a job working for
one of his neighbors to help cut wood. In the summer of 1923, Joe got a letter from
his brother Fred who was now living in Seattle asking Joe to come live with them. So
Joe left Sequim and went to live with his brother in Seattle. While attending the
Roosevelt High School, Joe joined the gymnastic team.
Dangerous Abbreviations Research Paper
In the article Dangerous abbreviations: U can make a difference! I learned about
dangerous abbreviations, acronyms, and symbols. Many medical errors occur with
confirmation bias. During drug administering, errors are made by 10 folds because
of a lack or over use of a zero before/after a decimal. Keeping in mind, that these
errors often occur, can help us prevent a death. One type of error that commonly
happens is known as confirmation bias. Confirmation bias happens when someone is
expecting to see confirmation of their expectation. This can easily be prevented if we
read, write, and transcribe medical orders with an open mind and pay meticulous
attention to other ways of transcribing the prescription. Sometimes it is better to write

Lured Into A Trap Analysis
I. Introduction Markus Kaarma, of Missoula, Montana, is serving a 70 year prison
term after being convicted of homicide. Kaarma, the court found, had been hunting
not protecting on his property in invoking the Castle Doctrine in shooting a young
man, 17 year old German foreign exchange student Diren Dede, he believed had
been burgling his garage. The swift action of local law enforcement, and even in a
state debating the merits of the popular doctrine, did not stop Juergen Schmieder, a
journalist working for the left leaning SГјddeutsche Zeitung, five days later writing a
story not only implying or giving the suggestion that Kaarma had trapped the victim,
but explicitly saying so in the name of his article, Lured into a Trap. It s important...

And there is of course an honorable mention of the National Rife Association, the
country s most visible and aggressive gun rights organization. Reading Schmieder s

encourage gun owners to take the actions Kaarma took, I suppose I was in a good
position to judge just how much Schmieder feeds his anti gun readership.
Schmieder is speaking directly to people like me (who is also German) who are

Unacknowledged Creed
The Unacknowledged Creed in Modern Day Politics
What does it mean to be an American? When asked this question, many turn and
answer with the stereotypical ideals and portrayals; a nationalistic, flag bearing, white
man, living in a white picket fence and drinking Bud Light in the world s greatest
country. This classic image of an American has spread throughout the international
world and infiltrated societal thoughts over the past century. However, the American
identity wasn t always this narcissistic or materialistic. The core of an American
identity is actually is embodied by the American Creed, principals based on
individualism, equality, and liberty. While the United Statesis considered an
immigrant country , Samuel Huntington ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By studying and following the election campaigns for both Donald Trump and
Bernie Sanders, it could be argued that though it may be unconsciously, both
campaigns, no matter how different, have traces on the American Creed laced
through their policies and platforms. While unacknowledged, those who support
Trump, the white working class, are actually those who are calling for the
reinstating of the American Creed. While the identity of Trump supporters are
parallel to the stereotypical American I described above, they are also the
population grieving the divestment of America s historical identity. Charles
Murray from the Wall Street Journal, breaks down the parallels between Trumpism
and the American Creed described by Huntington. Trumps famous slogan Make
American Great Again is not a call for segregation and separation as it has been
interpreted, but a call for returning to a society derived from egalitarian ideals,
where American exceptionalism meant a lack of class consciousness. The creation
of a new upper class and lower class as created a strict divide between the American
people as a whole. The new classes created new cultures and eventually new morals
which visibly differ from the original Creedal Nation belief system. The intent of
creating a nation where interest is different but morals are consistent is shattered.
Murray argues
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Linocut
LinocutA block made of linoleum
Carving tools Paper fabrics
Linocut is a form of relief printing in which the artist cuts a design into the surface
of the block. Then a mirror image is created when the artist places a paper or fabric
over the surface and presses down with a hand or a roller. The raised parts of the
piece transfer over on to the paper or fabric to create the overall desired print.
Linocut has both benefits and drawbacks as a form of printmaking. The major benefit
of this form of art is that it is softer than wood making it easier to carve and use.
Another benefit is that color can be added to the prints. However, there are several
drawbacks of using linocut such as linoleum wears down more quickly under

The artist first coats the metal plate in an acid resistant substance known as ground
and is drawn on. The artist then uses a sharp tool or etching needle down to the
plate. Hard grounds are employed for finely detailed linear work. Soft ground can
also be used, and virtually any tool can be used to expose the plate and resembles
crayon and pencil drawings (Sayre, 2012). Whichever ground is used by the artist
is then placed in an acid bath. The acid eats, or etches, into the plate where the lines
have been drawn; the longer the exposed plate is left in the bath, and the stronger
the solution, the greater the width and depth of the etched line (Sayre, 2012). An
artist can also create a way in stopping out a section by using varnishes or ground
over the etched surface. Once the plate is finished being exposed to acid, it is
inked and printed. Etching has both benefits and drawbacks. Some of the benefits
to etching are that it is a fluid and free process and it is able to capture the sense of
immediacy as a sketch. However, some drawbacks to etching include it is a medium
that requires calculations and planning, an ability to manipulate chemicals, and a
willingness to risk losing everything in order to achieve the desired effect (Sayre,
A Brief Note On Business Negotiator And International...
The readership for this executive summary is dedicated to business negotiator and
international business managerial.
The objectives of this literature are:
Identify the strategies and tactics for different ways of arguing
Identify how culture influences the ways of arguing
Evaluate the effectiveness of ways of arguing at different cultures
Identify the interaction of the two strategies when different cultures meet
In this literature, most of the literature collected is through online platforms, such as
UWE online library and Google Scholar while hardcopy books that were used for
this study was obtained from the UWE Library. All the collected literatures in this
literature is well establish by referring to the journal metrics and at least cited by 50
times. 28 of theoretical literatures were collected to understand and support the theory
of culture and negotiation. On the other hand, 42 of empirical literatures were
collected to illustrate the relationship between culture and intercultural negotiation in
business context. The timeframe of the theoretical literature is not an issue as long as
the theory is still relevant but the empirical literature is not more than 20 years old so
it may still be relevant in today s culture and business environment.
Based on these objectives, there are three findings achieved at this literature. First,
most of the Western countries, such as U.S. and Australia, prefer direct expression of
language and information. In contrast, most of
Leading A Team Into Change
Change is unavoidable, it is a transformation of one thing into another. In the year
1990, Peter Senge said that we need to start acting like gardeners and stop thinking
like mechanics in order for big companies to change (Webber, A. 1999). As a leader
of an inter disciplinary team, I am responsible for the rehabilitation of clients into
their homes. Our company have just secured a new contract from the Ministry of
Health and needs to widen the scope of its services. As of the moment, we have 12
staff and the management advised me that we can employ 8 more staff. Therefore,
I need to decide the health care services and the qualities of the new employees that
we will hire. This paper will tackle about leading a team into change. Rehabilitation

people with disabilities to maintain and reach their optimal physical, intellectual,
psychological, sensory and social functional levels. It provides people with disability
the tools that they need in order for them to have self determination and
independence. Moreover, this also includes the successful and productive interaction
of many stakeholders such as clients that includes Maori and the Pacific Islanders

Corset Research Paper
Gertrude, an 18 year old Victorian woman, stood in the corner of the room, face
creased in pain as her maid Bertha bent over her, pulling her strings tighter and tighter.
Harder, Bertha, harder. I have to look as small as possible for the ball tonight.
Bertha grunted, and with one almighty tug, finished doing up the corset. Her mistress
s waist was now looking as small as it could possible look.
Corsets. What are they?
Corsets are a stiff garment worn by women (and occasionally men) in the Victorian
times, designed to create the much desired hourglass figure of the time. They were
made of whale baleen, or sometimes strips of steel with laces, usually tightened by
maids. Unfortunately, corsets are now becoming more and more popular, when they
really belong in the illustrations of our history books. ... Show more content on

What they don t see, however, is all the damage happening inside. Corsets can
restrict breathing, bruise and even force inner organs out of alignment. They also
compress the stomach and lungs, and can deform the bodies of growing teenagers
as it was frowned upon for girls at the age of 14 and up to not be wearing full corsets.
And the pain. The laces were always tightened to the point where one could hardly
breath...moving and eating would have surely been a problem. Which is kinda
weird, given corsets were designed for social reasons.
Why?
Men were always impressed by the tiny waists of these women; having a small
waist gave you a better chance at a wealthy or important husband. If you wore a
corset, you were considered to be at a higher standard than those who didn t. Women
who ate a lot, and therefore had bigger middles were less appealing to men. This was
the Victorian logic, and the reasoning behind this painful
The Association Of Nurse Anesthetists
Qui tam pro domino rege quam pro se ipso in hac parte sequitur is Latin for
meaning Who brings the action for the King as well as for himself (Blumenreich,
1999). An abbreviated form, qui tam is a current writ in the United States under the
False Claims Act. This act allows a private individual or whistleblower with
knowledge of present or past fraud committed against the federal government to bring
suit on the government s behalf. As a student embarking on a new career in anesthesia
, I feel it very important to have an understanding of a lawsuit brought by the
Minnesota Association of Nurse Anesthetists (MANA) against Allina Health
Systems, several Minnesota hospitals and a number of anesthesiologists. It is one in
which has kept the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist(CRNA) profession thriving
and has also been instrumental in bringing about regulatory changes regarding
reimbursement of anesthesia professionals. Being a registered nurse over the last
fourteen years, I have witnessed firsthand that the healthcare industry is constantly
evolving. And with all the government budget deficits, many models of health care
are built on cost containment and managed care. This has resulted in a lot of conflicts
between healthcare providers, especially between CRNAs and anesthesiologists.
Historically the delivery of anesthesia has predominately been by nurses rather than
doctors. However this balance began to shift when the delivery of anesthesia became
Bipolar Disorder And Cognitive Functioning And Behavior
Bipolar Disorder and Impairments in Cognitive Functioning and Behavior Bipolar
disorder is behavior disorder that results in shifts of mood, lack of energy, low
activity levels, and difficulty performing day to day tasks. There are two types of
Bipolar disorder. Bipolar 1 Disorder, is when the primary symptom is manic, or
cycling episodes of maniaand depression. Bipolar 2 Disorder is reoccurring
depression alongside hypomanic episodes. Manic episodes are periods of elevated,
expansive, or irritable mood that may occur for at least a week. In contrast, depressive
episodes are intensely unhappy or hopeless states. Emotional and drastic changes
from the individual s standard behavior that may occur randomly are called mood
episodes. These mood episodes are the reason that bipolar disorder is sometimes
referred to as manic depressive illness. According to the National Institute of Mental
Health, symptoms during manic episodes include talking quickly, racing thoughts,
little sleep, inflated self esteem, and low attention spans. During depressive episodes,
individuals have diminished ability in remembering, indecisiveness, lack of energy to
engage in activities, reduced interest in activities, guilt, feeling valueless, and suicidal
thoughts or sometimes in extreme cases, attempts at suicide. Besides these common
symptoms, researchers have found that bipolar disorder may also cause memory
dysfunctions, attention deficits, and learning problems. The impairments in cognitive

The staff at RCC is fluid, ranging from 8 to 10 full time and 10 to 13 part time paid

diversity of the paid staff is narrow with much of staff are Caucasian, while only 6
staff members are People of Color. (B. Schlichtig, personal communication, January

The RCC offers services to LGBTQ youth, through Operation Q, which includes
social activities, advocacy/support in the schools and outside community, one on one
counseling/case management, and family support. Operation Q is split into two age

Bend It Like Beckham Character Analysis
Family ties people down and brings people together. It chains people down with rules
and regulations, caging them in with familial obligations. While most would not
complain or fight against being encaged and molded into their parents desires, some
let go, abandoning these duties in exchange for happiness. In the production Bend It
Like Beckham, the protagonist, Jess, struggles with the reason why it is important to
abandon familyobligations when it conflicts with one s personal desires.
Jess has the desire to play soccer, but her parents want her to conform to Indian
traditions. Once Jess earns a place on a women s soccer team, she is encouraged by
her new found teammates to continue to defy her parent s wishes for a chance to
play with them. She starts playing on their team after Jules, one of the players,
complements and urges her to play on a team most well known for their
competitiveness and multiple accomplishments in the soccer world, for example
winning the tournament in Europe. This decision goes against Jess family
obligations in that it subjects her to being immodest and straying away from a
traditional women s role in Indian society. Jess mother wishes for her to adhere to
Indian traditions in that she prospers into a good Indian wife, instead of playing a
game most often looked upon as a boy s sport. Furthermore, she tells her daughter to
stop continuing on with her ongoing rebellions and resorts to forcing Jess to learn to
cook good Indian meals and wear

Ethnographic Methods Utilized By Finkelstein In With No...
With No Direction Home: Homeless Youth on the Road and in the Streets is an
ethnography which describes the lives of youths living on the streets of New York
City. The author attempts to conduct her own research in order to dispute the false
impressions that many previous researches have formed about the youths living on
the street. The ethnographic method she uses aids her study of the street kids in
acknowledging the facts behind their choice of lifestyle and their experiences while

Malinowski and Finklestein used similar concepts in their field study to acknowledge
the depth of their study rather than using the armchair approach (12, 2014). Moreover
the ethnographic methods used by Finklestein in approaching the youth of New York
are also displayed in Kristina E. Gibson s Street Kids: Homeless Youth, Outreach,
and Policing New York s Streets. Both being women researchers, their approaches
were similar in wanting to seek the emotional perspective on the youth s lives and
experiences. Despite that both are women, Gibson uses a more feministic perspective
in her ethnographic approach and she spends a longer duration of time in her study
than Finklestein (2011, Gibson). Marni Finklestein uses methods such as
interviewing and approaching the youth as a professional researcher, on the other
hand, Kristina E. Gibson uses the methods of volunteering as a street outreach (2011,
Gibson) worker. Gibson created her analysis based on the human geography, whereas
Finklestein based her study on the basis of Anthropology. Although they both
conducted their study by approaching the street kids of New York City, the concepts
and the reasons for their research are different. Finklestein wants to provide
information, about how the youths got on the street and what their

Lies My Teacher Told Me Essay

  • 1. Lies My Teacher Told Me Essay Crafting an essay on the topic "Lies My Teacher Told Me" can be a challenging endeavor. This subject demands a critical examination of historical narratives, educational materials, and societal perspectives. Delving into the intricacies of misinformation within educational settings requires meticulous research, analytical skills, and a keen eye for uncovering hidden truths. One of the difficulties lies in navigating through the vast array of historical events and figures that have been potentially misrepresented. It necessitates an in-depth understanding of the subject matter, the ability to discern between fact and fiction, and the courage to challenge commonly accepted beliefs. Moreover, addressing the impact of these inaccuracies on students' perceptions and understanding of the world adds another layer of complexity to the essay. Another challenge is presenting a nuanced argument that acknowledges the complexities of historical narratives while maintaining a coherent and persuasive thesis. Balancing the critique of misleading information with constructive suggestions for improving the educational system requires finesse in argumentation and a comprehensive grasp of the topic. Furthermore, writing on such a topic demands sensitivity to diverse perspectives and a commitment to fostering a constructive dialogue rather than simply debunking myths. Engaging with different viewpoints and historical interpretations requires a careful and respectful approach to avoid alienating readers who may hold varying opinions. In conclusion, tackling the "Lies My Teacher Told Me" essay necessitates a combination of research skills, critical thinking, and a thoughtful approach to presenting alternative perspectives. • 2. What Americanism Mean To Me Americanism. According to the dictionary it means a characteristic feature of English as used in the United States. To me it means a lot more than that. It means three main things to me like freedom, all of our needs are. When I hear the word freedom, I think about freedom of speech and the freedom of choice. In America, we have the freedom of speech. We can say what we want to say anytime we want to say it. The power of speech is often abused. People in America often do not realize how lucky they are to. Another thing that I think Americanism means is freedom of choice. From the time children are born and until they go off on their own, the parent or guardian tries to choose what is best for the child. Children choose their own destiny while
  • 3. Water Fowl Hunting Research Paper Across the United States of America, water fowl hunting is one of the most popular hunting sports that occurs every year during the autumn and winter seasons. Hunters spread out over wide range of areas across the United States to take a shot at geese, ducks, and other well known game birds. Water fowl huntingcan be done in crop fields or on a river. When a shot goes up over half the shots taken pellets are falling towards a field or wet land area. Concerns have been made and laws and regulations against Lead Shots are being adjusted. The new laws and regulations are requiring water fowl hunters who use traditional lead shot ammunition are now to use steel shots when water fowl hunting. (White) Lead Ammunition has been the traditional form of ammunition for over many decades now. Many hunters have been using lead ammunition since the early 1960 s. Ammunition manufactures started creating shot gun shells that are made of red plastic and contain over a minimum of twenty or more lead pellets in each shell. Some shells very in different sizes and contain different amounts of lead pellets for different hunting uses. These shells were made to have a high killing power when hunting waterfowl. Such a tiny lead pellet has become a very big ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Steel shot ammunition pellets weigh less than a steel pellet does. They have a less kill power than a lead pellet. They come in the same shot gun shells as lead does but they have more pellets inside giving them a stronger force. Just like the lead pellet shells they vary in different shell sizes for different hunting uses. Steel shells give a cleaner shot that will help the game bird bleed more freely without getting the pellet stuck inside its body. The most important part about this substitution is the steel pellets are eliminating lead poisoning from

The most common corrective institution is a prison that serves not only as a corrective facility but also serves as a venue to instill vocational skills and academic knowledge to inmates. • 6. Service Gaps In Little Haiti Service Gaps. One of the gaps in services and resources in Little Haiti identified is in education. All of the public schools in Little Haiti have a grade of either C or D ( Miami Dade County Public Schools, n.d.). These schools with below average achievement scores do not benefit the children attending who are coming from a community that has a below average high schooldiploma rate. As the workforce continues to become more competitive, college educationis going to begin to replace high schooldiplomas as a prerequisite for the majority of jobs. If the public education system does not begin to provide education that not only aids these youth in obtaining high school diplomas but additionally supports their advancement through college, than this community will not be able to move ahead with society. There is a high concentration of Haitian Americans holding low skill, low wage jobs. Understanding that Haiti is one of the poorest countries and that immigrants came to the United States with no formal education, necessary steps need to be taken to ensure that each generation has an opportunity to advance obtain this education and advance their community a bit more (Sohmer, Jackson, Katz, Warren, 2005). There are a couple ways this writer would begin to address this gap. First, the schools need to initiate or strength their parent association programs. Parents should receive ongoing education on student progress, areas needing improvement, and ways to best support
  • 7. The Similarities Between The Ancient And Modern Olympic Games While there are clear contrasts between the ancient and the modern Olympics there is still the respect for the athlete striving to perform at the highest level. Today, the Olympic Games are the world s largest carnival of athletic skill and competitive spirit. They are displays of nationalism, commerce, and politics. These important elements of the Olympics are not a modern invention, as the first Olympics was in 776 BC in Ancient Greece. After 1503 years, in 1896 the Olympic Gameswere recreated as what we know today. The Ancient Games were once dedicated to the Olympian God, Zeus Olympios and were staged on the ancient plains of Olympia, which is also how the word Olympics originated from. The modern Olympics is the largest international sporting event, which feature both summer and winter sports competitions in which thousands of respectable athletes from over 200 different nations compete against one another. There are clear contrast between the modern and ancient forms of the Olympic Games regarding uniforms, participants, religion, events, politics and the concept of amateurism. However both the Ancient Greeks and the people in the modern world still respect and admire the athletics achievements of the participants making the Olympics the most highly regarded contest in sport. The Olympic Games, was once a significant athletic festival that originated in ancient Greece as a religious festival which was revived in the late 19th century as a secular competition to
  • 8. The Pros And Cons Of David And Goliath Underdog, a term that we are all too familiar with, has classified disadvantages in life for centuries. Little do we know that there is no such thing as being an underdog, it is simply just a myth. Malcolm Gladwell, the author of David and Goliath, explains through a series of real life stories how some of the biggest disadvantages can really be an advantage. The three sectioned book goes into explicit detail on the advantages of disadvantages (Gladwell pg.18), theory of desirable difficulty (Gladwell pg. 97), and the limit of power (Gladwell pg. 195). Along with the book David and goliath is the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Jamal, the main character in Slumdog Millionaire, along with the people in the book, are the epitome of an underdog. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If anyone understands what it is like to be a misfit, it is the people of Le Chambon, descendants of protestant Huguenots. The Huguenots were forced to flee France to different countries in the late seventeenth century. The ones that that stayed lived underground or in remote areas, they were forced to learn the art of evasion and disguise in order to survive (Gladwell, p.269). AndrГ© TrocmГ©, the pastor of Le Chambon, helped hide Jews during WWII. Later in the war, when the Gestapo stepped up their scrutiny of Le Chambon, TrocmГ© was forced to flee (Gladwell, p.272). Having no place to go he helped move Jews into Switzerland. TrocmГ© moved from town to town, carrying false papers (Gladwell, p. 272). Eventually he was arrested, then released. Upon being released he revealed who he truly was. Just like AndrГ© TrocomГ©, Jamal had a home that he was forced to flee from. He had to learn the arts of evasion and disguise. As a boy, he went to the Taj Mahal and pretended like he was a guide for the Americans. When they questioned his knowledge against the guide book he responded saying, The guide book was written by a bunch of lazy good for nothing Indian beggars! (Jamal, Slumdog millionaire, 2018). He eventually got chased off the property and took Americans on tours to places in India. At one point, he took a couple to his home town. While they were out walking, people came and took everything, including the tires on the vehicle. The driver began to beat Jamal after that and he said to the couple, You wanted to see a bit of the real India? Well here it is! (Jamal, Slumdog Millionaire, 2018). He was trying to show the couple just how bad India is. Jamal had to learn at a young age how to survive alone with his brother in the streets of India. They became the masters of evasion and disguise. If it was not for learning these skills they would not have been able to save Latika, let alone

Soon later, numerous blisters had developed on the palm and back of the hand, as well as between the fingers, which increased rapidly in size and became painfully distended with fluid. Also, the skinof the left hand and abdomen began to redden (erythema). For relieving pain and increasing circulation and manual flexibility to the right hand, Daghlian s primary attending physicians at Los Alamos Hospital decided on the third day to perform a paravertebral block on the right side and to open the blisters and remove the necrotic skin (dГ©bridement) under general anesthesia; the wounds were then covered with Vaseline
  • 10. A Day At The Meadowlands Flea Market Growing up in such a majorly diversified city, and having attended public schools all of my life, I barely encountered racism of any sort. It was something that was not discussed often in my home or anywhere else, outside of my knowledge of slavery s history in America or what I ve seen in movies. Having friends and family from so many different countries, backgrounds, and ethnicities, it was tough relating to any direct form of discrimination that I know others around me have encountered. Then, there was that day ...at the Meadowlands Flea Market. Here... In New Jersey, the learned hatred for people of color stared me right in face, as if it was my time to finally confront something I have never been exposed to. This was one of many life changing events that has happened to me, though it happened at least 10 years ago, the memory is as fresh as yesterday s occurrences. This very moment opened my eyes to a new respect for any other minority or anyone who has endured racismand discrimination. Springtime in New Jersey meant finally taking the coats off and enjoying some outdoor fun, festivals, carnivals, flea markets and such. One Saturday morning my mom and grandmother decided we all should take a drive Rutherford to check out the flea market that comes around annually. Located right in the parking lots of the Meadowlands Racetrack was my favorite because of the great food of course and hundreds of people from all over the state were there to shop. As we arrive to the flea

Comparing Hobbes s Leviathan And The Grand Inquisitor The Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes and the Grand Inquisitor by Fyodor Dostoevsky, are both important works that share the views of two men on human nature. The Leviathan by Hobbes is one of the most influential pieces of all time. Many great philosophers got inspiration from Hobbes writing and based their views on it. The Grand Inquisitor is considered one of the most well know pieces of writing. The main reasons for it being so well known is because of its ideas of human nature and freedom. Both works, The Leviathanand the Grand Inquisitor, share their views on, human nature and priority, the role of freedom in people s lives and when would it be right to have an all powerful leader who controls everything. The fear that created God was the fear of what would eventually happen to man. He saids that religion comes from three sources they are the curiosity into what causes events, curiosity of the causes of these causes and forgetting the order of things and past causes and effects. So if something happens and no one knows why it happens or the cause of it, it becomes the work of god. His view on religion is that is has been used wrong; it makes people obedient to a self serving authority. If something goes wrong the important people in the religion will claim that it is a work of God. The reason why this is an issue is since people don t know what really caused the issue they won t blame the government who is truly at fault for the issues. Hobbes believes that nature created everyone the same and the difference between people is very small, so according to Hobbes man can thereupon claim to himself any benefit to which another may not pretend as well as he (Hobbes). Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed by Orson Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both represent the American dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all about time and the American dream; it is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined that it is hard to see them apart. Throughout the movie we see him as a large, powerful figure that is newsworthy for scandals and successes among other things. We realize though that the things that made him who he was, were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And the last word, rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we understand of him, and it is essentially him being at his most venerable and most alone time. When he leaves his family he is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does not develop Kane or even try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a lifestyle of loneliness. This loneliness extends into his business deals as he takes the world by storm. He thought his treatments were working until one of his patients became an author and told the story of his life. The mother cannot look away from this creature s guileless stare; her arms tighten around the swaddle of blankets. These eyes, holding only curiosity, are the eyes of a child; are the eyes of innocence. Here, innocence is easy defined and identified, however, the definition of innocence cannot be limited to children. Maya Angelo, a life long civil rights activist, William Blake, blah blah blah, and Walt Whitman, a delegate for democracy, display the many layers of innocence in their own lives through their poetry. The rhyme and meter in Africa by Maya Angelou, Introduction of Songs of Innocence by William Blake, and Had I the Choice by Walt Whitman reveals each author s desire for uniqueness on the theme of innocence. In Africa , the author uses dimeter and then erratic meter in later stanzas to add onto the motif of stolen innocence. The author uses two feet per line, such as sugar cane sweet (Africa, 855) in the first stanza to display the childlike purity of the continent. The meter is uncomplicated and easy to identify reflecting the African way of life. Africa, before white exploration, was a joyful and beautiful place to live in. Equally important is the acceleration of the rhythm of the poem by the dimeter found in the first stanza. Through the speeding beat, Angelou displays the fleeting nature of Africa s innocence. Africa

The life of a college freshman is no different than the life outside of college. The similarities and differences of the movie BTS and MU, reveal stereotypical incoming attitudes, the reasons for attendance, and the lessons learned of closely connected, college freshman. In the movie MU, one of the main characters is James Sullivan, or as more commonly known as Sully. Living on the previous successes of his family, particularly his father, Sully felt he had a lot to prove to his peers and professors. Which ultimately led to him meeting, Mike, who would become his most unlikely, best friend. If we take a look at Sully s stature we see that he possesses an innate ability to scare. His natural scaring qualities ranged from his height and muscle, to his sharp, frightening teeth, giving him an advantage that many other students did not possess. Taking into account all of this information, it is no wonder that Sully did not have a goal for going to college. It is this very point where we see a contrast between Sully and Thornton from BTS. One of the similarities between Sully and Thornton are their backgrounds. Just as Sully had a successful family, similarly Thornton did as well.

Andrew Jackson was a general and the 7th president of America. In his years of presidency, he did expand America and did good and bad things depending on perspective. He forced Native Americans out of their lands and if they refused they were slaughtered. In my opinion, Andrew Jackson should not be on the 20 dollar bill because he relocated Native Americans, slaughtered Native Americans who refused to leave their homes, and he traded slaves. One reason Andrew Jackson should not be on the 20 dollar bill is that he relocated Native Americans. He kicked Native Americans out of their lands, leaving everything and their childhood and valued lands. According to this website The trail continued west into Oklahoma, a total distance of nearly 1,000 miles (Neal Lineback, 2013), the trail of tears. They traveled only to have unexplored lands, three fourths of their colony dead, bad weather, and only to be eventually kicked off again by the ever expanding Americans who want more land. The law imposes a fine of up to 150 euro and/or participation in citizenship education, for those who violate the law. As a result of the law, the only exceptions to a woman wearing a niqab in public will be if she is traveling in a private car or worshipping in a religious place. This latter rain was a sign of the lasts days and the immanent return of Christ. How did they know that the latter rain was falling over them? This is where tongues manifestation is crucial. Pentecostals believe that they had received xenolalia, human language unknown to them. Thus, many believed that they were experiencing what the disciples had experience in Acts 2. Hence, their understanding of Christ immanent return together with the idea that they spoke a foreign human tongue became the springboard for such missionary burst throughout the world. Anderson points out, The idea of a world wide revival to precede the soon coming King became a prominent theme in early Pentecostalism and was an important reason for frantic mission activity that came in the movement s wake. It is widely known, that early Pentecostal missionaries and the local people suffered due to such eschatological urgency. Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that even through those sufferings God used these missionaries to spread the gospel to unimaginable places. In the last section, Lausanne Covenant agrees in principle to what is a Pentecostal understanding of the last days. It says, We believe that the interim period between Christ s ascension and return is to be filled with the mission of the people of God, who have no liberty to stop before the end. Though the

  • 30. The Ship Of Theseus Paradox Essay The Ship of Theseus, also known as Theseus Paradox, is a thought experiment that questions whether an object is fundamentally the same object after having all of its parts replaced. The story goes that Theseus, a mythical hero of Athens, went on an endeavor to kill the Minotaur who had been harassing the townspeople. When Theseus returned successful, his ship was left in the harbor to commemorate his victory. Consequently, the ship s planks had deteriorated and were replaced one by one. Thus, the question begs: is this the same ship, or a different one? Throughout this paper I will argue the stance that Theseus ship is not the same ship nor has it ever been the same ship the second it left the port in which it was built. Theseus s Paradox is entirely built upon perceptionsomeone s view of the ship is different (no matter how minuscule) compared to the next person. Hence why philosophers differ so much on the subject. However, the idea of human perception can be taken into account when discussing this question. Because no answer to this question can be true, is precisely why one answer has to be more true; the ship is different. Take into consideration perception to apply an identity to an object means that the object was perceived by an observer. The observer selects attributes of its subject in order to serve his/her purpose; the attributes assigned to the subject become the basis for its identity. Therefore, identity has no meaning apart from being a branch of

Training classes will help nurses to understand the definitions and terms, being empathic to transgender individuals in prison, and provide gender affirming healthcare services (Wahowiak, 2016). It is also important to note what led them to become incarcerated so that as a nurse you can help prevent them from being incarcerated again. Treating transgender individuals with fairness, dignity, and respect is extremely important because that is how you develop a nurse patient relationship (NCCHC, 2015). Patient safety will also have an impact on the profession of nursing as our mission is to protect, heal, and advocate for our patients regardless of their gender identity. Transgender inmates are at risk for violence and sexual assault or harassment. As nurses, it is our duty to ensure that while they are incarcerated they are being treated equally, receiving the same healthcare treatment as others and that we report any incidents. Housing should also be addressed so that they can be housed based on their gender identity instead of their genitalia. Previously mentioned, transgender individuals are denied their medication because the healthcare system is indifferent to their needs and views it as unimportant compared to the rest. As a result, they become responsible for what happens in prison and if they become ill from catching an infection due to self castration the health professionals become questionable. Some are made to be a temporary group while others are permanently, such as being a part of a cheer team or becoming a grandmother. These groups vary in size, importance, and behavior. This leads to being a part of a culture called society. Society is a group of people who interact and share a common culture. Everyone has different views on society but can generally be summed up to fit into three paradigms that dominate sociological thinking: structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Functionalism Functionalism originates from English philosopher and biologist Herbert Spencer. Functionalist view society as interrelated parts that work together to meet the need of a function. Society is more than just individual parts but rather each part is functional for the stability of the whole. For example, our human body is made up of different organ systems that work together so that we can breathe, walk, eat and live. Each organ plays a role but cannot function as individuals to

Secondly, the term assumptions in the quote should also be explored. According to the oxford dictionary, assumptions can be defined as something that is accepted as true without proof . • 36. Papyrus Essay During biblical times especially in the New Testament era, producing an epistle or letter was laborious, costly, and timely undertaking. In order to produce letters, epistles, or writings, many writers would use skilled scribes or amanuenses to compose the information on papyrus. According to D.A. Carson and Douglas Moo, the method employed by an amanuensis greatly differed contingent upon the skills of the scribe and the relationship between the writer and amanuensis. However, the technique and freedom inherited in this role allowed the amanuenses flexibility in scripting the author s views. The standard material used in writingwas reed pen and ink, and transcribed on papyrus. Thomas Lea and David Black shares depending on the size of the letters, each sheet could hold 150 250 words. The Christian movement did not end this manufacturing of pseudonymous works as many scholars question the authenticity of Ephesians, the Pastoral Epistles, 2 Peter, Colossians, 2 Thessalonians, and 1 Peter. It can be easily inferred that the New Testament Christians used some pseudepigraphic method in their writings. In 1 and 2 Thessalonians there are differences of opinions on the apocalyptic signs of the arrival of Christ. First Thessalonians allude to the event happening as like a thief in the night, while 2 Thessalonians share that signs will come before the arrival of the Parousia. Further, there is uncertainties in Paul writing of Colossians, since he had not visited the city prior to writing the letter. The middle passage was a major aspect of the triangular trade, which involves the illegitimate trading of African captives in exchange for manufactured goods from the Europeans who later transport the African captives to the Atlantic world and then exchange them for raw materials from the Atlantic traders. Whichever ground is used by the artist is then placed in an acid bath. The acid eats, or etches, into the plate where the lines have been drawn; the longer the exposed plate is left in the bath, and the stronger the solution, the greater the width and depth of the etched line (Sayre, 2012). This decision goes against Jess family obligations in that it subjects her to being immodest and straying away from a traditional women s role in Indian society. Jess mother wishes for her to adhere to Indian traditions in that she prospers into a good Indian wife, instead of playing a game most often looked upon as a boy s sport. With No Direction Home: Homeless Youth on the Road and in the Streets is an ethnography which describes the lives of youths living on the streets of New York City. Moreover the ethnographic methods used by Finklestein in approaching the youth of New York are also displayed in Kristina E. Gibson s Street Kids: Homeless Youth, Outreach, and Policing New York s Streets. Both being women researchers, their approaches were similar in wanting to seek the emotional perspective on the youth s lives and experiences. Despite that both are women, Gibson uses a more feministic perspective in her ethnographic approach and she spends a longer duration of time in her study than Finklestein (2011, Gibson). Marni Finklestein uses methods such as interviewing and approaching the youth as a professional researcher, on the other hand, Kristina E. Gibson uses the methods of volunteering as a street outreach (2011, Gibson) worker. Gibson created her analysis based on the human geography, whereas Finklestein based her study on the basis of Anthropology. Although they both conducted their study by approaching the street kids of New York City, the concepts and the reasons for their research are different. Finklestein wants to provide information, about how the youths got on the street and what their
