2. Descriptive Essay About Hot Chocolate
Scurrying along the copper colored brick road, people moved their way through the crowd. My family
and I were new to the state of Washington, and eager to explore the Pike Place Market. Tourists
crowded in front of the original Starbucks, taking pictures and forming a line. I shifted my weight and
waited impatiently in the filled to the brim coffee shop.
How much longer? I whined, crossing my arms and pouting my lips. The line was moving at sluggish
speed, and I was ready for my hot chocolate. After a moment of chatter, my parents decided that me
and my sister could wait outside and people watch. Relieved, and walking out of the shop, we were
welcomed by the cool fall air and rustle of coats.
The street was filled with strange items and odd people. Passing a couple of street singers, we spotted
a living statue. Covered all in silver, resembling a tin man, in a kneeling position. As we passed, its
eyes followed our gaze until we were again enveloped by the crowd. My sister jerked her arm, looked
back and quickened her walking speed.
Trying to catch up, I yelled, Camryn, slow down! Why are you walking so fast? She grabbed my hand
and dashed inside a nearby antique store. Looking out of the hazy window, she scanned the exterior
for the Starbucks. But her eyes stopped dead at the spot where the living statue had kneeled. She
looked back at me and looked as if she had seen a ghost. She said four words.
The statue is gone.
Looking through the crowd, her eyes swept over

Like P amp;G, Apple is a company brand. But unlike P amp;G, the Apple company brand is a
powerful motivating force for buying Apple product brands including the iPod, the iPhone and the
iPad.
Every company should have a powerful company brand, but they don t. Except for a handful of
companies like Johnson amp; Johnson, most company brands influence very few consumers.

Short term vs. long term success.
Yahoo was a short term success because it built a brand around a hard attribute, search. But it is failing
in the long term because it failed to differentiate the role of a product brand vs. a company brand.
As a company, Yahoo should have jumped on every new development on the internet with a new
strategy and a new brand name and a new website using that brand name. Not by expanding the Yahoo
product brand, but by expanding the Yahoo company brand with additional, narrowly focused product
brands.
The future belongs to multiple brand companies, but with a caveat. A multiple brand company still
needs a focus. Compare the focused Apple company brand with other high tech companies.
Microsoft is a software company that has gone sideways for years. Why? Because it has tried to get

4. Chapter Review for Thank You For Arguing by Jay Heinrichs...
Jiamond Watson Ms. Snyder AP English 8 Sunday 2014
Thank You for Arguing
1. Open Your Eyes The first chapter introduced the reader to the art of rhetoric. He describes how
rhetoric works through real life examples. He demonstrates ways that rhetoric persuades us like,
argument from strength, and seduction. He tells the reader that the sole purpose of arguing is to
persuade the audience. He showed that the chief purpose of arguing is to also achieve consensus, a
shared faith in a choice.
2. Set Your Goals This chapter distinguished the difference between a fight and an argument. In an
example, he used a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His only interest is what will solve the issue for the audience. Make the audience believe that you are
selfless. While arguing, act as if the conclusion happened upon. The persuader should express that
what he is doing for the audience does harm to him. It also helps to show doubt in your own rhetorical
ability, become the underdog.
9. Control The Mood
To rouse the audience, in anger or otherwise, you use pathos. Use what your audience expects to
happen and their beliefs. Telling a story that the audience can relate to in the first person makes the
persuader relatable, to pull the audience in, play with your volume to make your emotion seem real,
speaking plainly makes your emotion more believable. Never belittle your audience s opinion, it can
start a riot. Patriotism works not only for a country but can create a sense of unity. Find your
persuasion gaps and fill them with desire and lust. Make your audience lust after your cause.
10. Turn the Volume Down
The passive voice encourages passive behavior, and can help you describe a wrongdoing without
identifying the wrongdoer. Comfort your audience with simple plans, empowering words, and get
your audience to smile. Humor, all types of humor, can calm any audience although it can backfire if
you overplay the emotion yourself.
11. Gain the High Ground
Before the argument begins, the persuader needs to know what his audience is thinking, their values,
and their views.

5. Asian Carp Research Paper
In the 1970 s man introduced the Asian Carp (Cyprinus carpio) to the Great Lake region. Their
introduction was done primarily as a form of management of aqua culture farms and sewage treatment
areas (Watershed Council). The fish were under controlled populations until record floods occurred in
the upper Mississippi River system. Once the flooding occurred the species began to spread and
destroy the native populations of fish and other aquatic animals.
The Carp having not been native to the Great lakes region have the upper hand on the native species.
By there being no natural predators located in this region let alone this hemisphere, the carp have been
able to flourish in mass numbers. Their large size and abilities to reproduce up to 2.2 million have
been able to decimate the natural population (Cooke, S.L). The Carp can grow up to a weight of 100
pounds and up to 4 feet long. The Sturgeon a fish that can exceed 6 feet in length and grow up to 100
pounds is the largest native fish in the region of the Great Lakes. The Sturgeons size is impressive and
is able to compete with that of the Carps but that is only in a select few. The average size for the

Ahh. I took a deep breath of sweet air that smelled of fudge, which was accented by manure from one

9. Power Of Education In The Great Gatsby
October 5, 2014
For centuries, the world has favored those who are in possession of a higher intelligence. Historically,
ruling classes were composed of educated nobles or trained workers, the few who had been able to
receive an education. Education in developed countries is often included in the basic rights to which
every human should have access. Its importance has been the focal point of countless movements, all
petitioning for the opportunity of schooling for lower class citizens. The United States of America,
though it has experienced significant changes in regards to the literacy of all citizens, did not do so
without difficulty. The two most notable groups to fight for the right to equal education had to struggle
for years to obtain their goals. African Americans had little to no rights until the Emancipation
Proclamation in 1865, and even then, only males were allowed to read and write. Women did not
begin attending college in equal numbers to men until as recently as 1980. The strong correlation
between power and education makes possessing a sound education a valuable asset and highly sought
after. Education s role in society is a prevalent theme throughout Scott F. Fitzgerald s The Great
Gatsby. Tom s supremacy through education and wealth contrasts heavily with Gatsby s lack of
knowledge, creating tension within the novel between the two opposing men.

I believe that women are not naturally more nurturing than men. Instead, this idea is a cultural

during that time they are weak and fragile. This leads for the women to stay back and take care of the

industry not only in Haiti, but also through the whole world causing it to have such a huge impact on
global politics. What I plan to investigate is how the issue of human trafficking affects global politics

17. The Negatives Of Using Newspapers For Advertising
Newspapers:
The positives of using newspapers for advertising for Cherry Hill Animal Clinic are that you can use a
local newspaper for an affordable price and the clinic would benefit since they could target their
audience from their local area.
The negatives are that newspapers have a short shelf life and there could be many other ads that
distract the reader from your ad.
Magazines:
The positives for using magazine advertising are that you could focus on local magazines about pets
since that would likely be your reader. Also, magazines are commonly passed around among pet
owners and the clinic could get more visibility.
The negatives are that you would have to limit this to local magazines since you have a limited area
with which you customers would come from. Furthermore, you would need to pay more to get a good
spot in the magazine for your ad.
Directories:
The positives for using directories are that people will specifically go there to find a clinic, so a well
placed ad should stand out and increase your business. Also, these are available 24 hours and won t
become outdated like a newspaper or magazine would.
The negatives are that advertising is costly and you would need to have a good placement for your ad

Out of all the amazing things I saw in the Pearls on a String, the one that I found the most interesting
was Akbar and Abd al Rahim, from the Akabarmana (Book of Akabr, 1586 1589). It is amazing to see
how many different scenes can all occur in one piece. Overall, The Book of Akbar had multiple
outstanding pieces but the emotion in this particular page is what caught my attention. Although I did
not study the other pages as intensely as this one, it is clear to see that Abul Fazlt s technique is
spectacular throughout each and every page. This painting is historical, depicting a young Abdul
Rahim Khan I Khana being received by Akbar after his family was killed. A great story is told
throughout the entire book, although this particular image has more of an intensity to it. This page
functions as a devotional image in order to display the emotional trauma Abd al Rahim must have felt
having all that he knew dragged from under him. This occurrence after royal bloodshed subsequently
sets a mood for the piece. Some of the painting is hard to depict, due to some men appearing
respectful and embracing while others appeared with contempt. This page is taller than wide with a
beautiful background paper designs. The placement of the piece is harmonious in every way possible.

frame compliments the shape of the piece allowing it to bring your focus back after the eye wanders

20. Examining the Existence of Dark Matter in the Universe Essay
Why is the night sky dark? For thousands of years this question has been asked. Astronomers are
continually growing closer to the answer but still no one has yet found an answer that is efficient
enough. While scientists steadily collect data, they are hoping to find some clue as to realize that the
answer may be because of something that is too mind blowing for us to comprehend. There is perhaps
no current problem of greater importance to astrophysics and cosmology than that of dark matter . The
controversy is centered on the conception that there may exist an enormous amount of matter in the
universe that cannot be detected from the light that it emits. The evidence of dark matter is from the
motions of astronomical objects, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Astronomers have figured out that dark matter is present due to the unusual bending of light in places
where nothing but empty space exists as well as the unusual movement of stars and galaxies that can
not be accounted for. The dark matter problem arose because of a difference in the masses of galaxies
and larger cosmic structures. The components of these systems stars and gas is in the description of
galaxies. Gas and galaxies in the case of galaxy clusters move about but do not escape. They are
restricted because they are watched over carefully by the gravitational pull from the rest of the system.
The laws of physics tell us how much mass has to be nearby to counterbalance the motions. This will
result by preventing the dispersal of the system. Doubtfully, the tally of mass that astronomers actually
observe falls relatively short compared to further away. Dark matter is the only explanation that
scientists can come up with for the difference between these totals.
Albert Einstein of the 1900s was able to calculate up a formula to show that we can more accurately
describe gravity s action at a distance as a warp in the fabric of space time, produced by any

22. Dehumanization Of Women In The Handmaids Tale
To dehumanize someone is to strip them of everything that makes them human, all their good
qualities, all their basic rights, everything that can label them an individual. Similarly, in Margaret
Atwood s The Handmaid s Tale, the women in the Republic of Gilead are degraded in such a way that
they are stripped of their previous selves. Women in Gilead are outfitted by their functions, forced to
have sex and they, especially handmaids, are used as tools. In The Handmaid s Tale, Atwood utilizes
motifs to further dehumanize the women of Gilead. To begin, the Republic of Gilead outfits women
based on their function to strip them of their individuality. The process starts by colour coding women
into easily identifiable class groups. This is seen when Offred makes her way to town, narrating the
scene and drawing attention to the other women by saying, There are other women with baskets, some
in red, some in the dull green of the Marthas (Atwood 27). Women in Gilead have been colour coded
to be easily identifiable and known under their respective colours, completely erasing their identities.
Furthermore, the colours they wear identify their sole purposes to society. When Offred first
introduces Econowives she notes that ...the striped dresses, red and blue and green... Econowives, they
re called. These women are not divided into functions. They have to do everything... (Atwood 27).
The Econowives are the wives or the poorer men, wearing the medley of all three colours to

24. Colin Ferguson Analysis
Cultural variability is evident in history, cross culturally, and between social groups within in today s
cultures. There are many things that impact cultural variability of norms such as race, gender, social
class, age, subcultural and religious affiliation (Velasquez, Andre, Shanks Meyers, 1987).
December 7, 1993, Colin Ferguson began to randomly execute the passengers on a New York
commuter train (Who is Colin Ferguson, 2017). After killing six passengers and injuring nineteen
others, he was finally subdued by three of the other passengers (Who is Colin Ferguson, 2017).
Colin Ferguson was born January 14, 1959 in Kingston, Jamaica. His father Von Herman was the
managing director for Hercules Agencies, a large pharmaceutical company. Mr. Herman was highly
regarded and recognized as a prominent businessman in Jamaica (Montaldo, 2017). Ferguson had four
brothers and afforded the privileges that wealth offers in an extreme poverty area. He graduated from
Calabar High School in 1969 with a grade average that was ranked in the top third of his class
(Montaldo, 2017). In 1978 his father was killed in a car crash and a short time later his mother died
from cancer. He would then suffer the loss of the family fortune. At 23 years old Ferguson left
Kingston, Jamaica and moved to the U.S. on a Visitor s Visa (Montaldo, 2017). Ferguson arrived in
America in 1978 into a time when there were mostly white families holding privilege and wealth and
leaving a cultural that was quite the opposite from American. Ferguson also came from a prominent
Jamaican family with wealth and privilege that he would no longer have.
The only jobs Ferguson could get in America were low paying and menial. He blamed racist
Americans for this problem (Montaldo, 2017). He got married to an American citizen who was also of
Jamaican descent. They soon moved to Long Island but Ferguson continued to be frustrated with
reports of loss of temper, outrage, and racial bigotry toward white people who he felt stood in his way
(Montaldo, 2017). In Jamaica he was born into one of the top families in Kingston; Government and

Factors of Sexual Orientation

Abstract
What does it mean to be a woman or a man? What is it that influences us as individuals to live as a
man or as woman as well have the feelings of attraction to someone else? Furthermore, what is it that
influences us to have those feeling to someone of the same sex? What does this all mean?
Approximately 100 years ago a German physician by the name of Magnus Hirschfeld suggest that the
brain of a fetus could possibly show early signs of whether or not a person would be of homosexual or
heterosexual nature when they became an adult. Can testing and research really tell us how our
innermost thoughts and feeling lead up to a preference of Sexual Orientation?
Major changes took place in the early 19th century when homosexuality started to be looked at in a
different light. Homosexuality started to be looked at and considered as part of nature. Up to this point
the idea of homosexuality was considered wrong in many cultures as well as a punishable crime in
some cases. Even though in ancient Greece the practice of homosexuality was accepted from a very
young age, it was considered out of the norm outside of that culture. Through numerous research
articles the question, what factors influence sexual orientation in male and females is studied.
The research studied comes from research journal articles that have been published in the Journal of
psychology and sociology.

Perry looked up to his father, but never received that attention he need at a young age, from this Perry

relationship with his father; which forced him to seek attention from male figures present in his life.
Perry Smith is still a child at heart. He fantasizes about treasure hunts and finding gold, as if he is still

28. Five Pillars Of Islam And Islam
Five Pillars of Islam All great things are built on a solid and strong foundation. The religion of Islam
is no different. The foundation on which Islam was built is known as The Five Pillars of Islam. These
are the essential duties that are required of all Muslims. The pillars are the shahadah (declaration of
faith), salah (establishment of the five ritual prayers), zakah (almsgiving), sawm (fasting the month of
Ramadan), and hajj (pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca). These five pillars are in the central
religious text of Islam, the Qur an, and are presented as the framework for worship and a sign of
commitment to faith (Esposito, Pillars of Islam ). The pillars are often compared to a creed such as
those seen in Christianity. While the two are similar in regards to the first pillar, they differ in that the
five pillars of Islam are acts or practices that Muslims must perform while a creed, as defined by
Merriam Webster dictionary, is a brief authoritative formula of religious belief. Shahadah, salah,
zakah, sawm, and hajj are the five obligations all Muslims have to satisfy to live a respectable life
according to Islam. They are the framework and foundation of a Muslim s life. The first pillar,
shahadah, is the declaration of faith. La ilaha illa Allah wa Muhammad rasul Allah . This translates to

30. Persuasive Essay On Fracking
For the past six weeks, I have been doing research about fracking and it s effects on the community
and nature. I have spent hours researching and doing experiments to come to a conclusion. I would
like to share my findings with you to make sure this county is informed about the process, as I know
they might not necessarily be. I believe that Fracking should not continue in Ohio. Although it brings
jobs to the country, and bring us domestic fuel, it is becoming a health hazard to bio life, which is very
important.
Fracking (formal name hydraulic fracturing), is the process of which million of gallons of water are
pumped a mile underground to get methane out of pockets in the shale. Fracking fluid is a mixture of
chemicals and water pumped underground through supposedly safe wells. The oil companies actually
doing the fracking say that the wells are completely safe. However, only 50% of the fracking fluid is
brought out of the wells. The rest of it is left underground and never retrieved. This can contaminate
the ground we farm on an the water we drink.. Fracking affects everyone around the wells, though it
may be indirectly. It can affect someone by giving them millions of dollars for land or contaminating
their drinking water. Some environmentalists believe that this can contaminate water in the aquifer, a
mile above the shale.
The composition of fracking fluid has not been released to the public. No one knows what is in the
fluid, but people have predicted. It is thought

Deterring Juvenile Criminal Activity
Arresting juvenile shoplifters can help deter future criminal activity.
Despite millions of dollars spent by retailers each year on surveillance and enforcement devices to
deter theft, shoplifting continues to be a major crime problem.
Store security personnel detect as many as two million shoplifting cases per year, but many are not
reported to the police. And of the almost 400,000 shoplifters detained and turned over to the police
annually, the vast majority are not arrested partly because shoplifters often are not tried and sentenced.

FINDINGS
Shoplifting was not confined to specific gender, race, age, or social class. The typical shoplifter was,
however, disproportionately young and female. Because they were young, they tended to be
unmarried, unemployed, and less educated. As a group, they did not have extensive criminal records.
Researchers found that the shoplifters who were arrested were neither more nor less likely as a group
to commit future shoplifting offenses than were those who had been detained by store security
personnel and released. The arrest rate for both groups over the six month period was about 10
percent.
But arrest did have a significant deterrent effect on one important group juveniles. Of the 253
juveniles apprehended and turned over to the police for arrest, only four percent were rearrested for
crimes other than shoplifting during the following six months. Of the 315 not turned over to the
police, 10 percent were rearrested for crimes other than shoplifting.
These findings challenge traditional assumptions that young people are more likely to repeat their
criminal behavior than older people. In fact, the findings suggest that shoplifters under the age of 17
who are arrested are less than half as likely to repeat their behavior as those over age 17.
IMPLICATIONS
The findings illustrate only what worked for stores in a certain jurisdiction. Adult shoplifters arrested
by the police in this particular jurisdiction were not likely to be prosecuted, convicted,

America is said to be the land of opportunities, a land of chances, a land to start a new life. Many
people were seduced by this sweet lie, mostly by the fact that they can start fresh or start a new life.
Personally, I disagree with these statements because many facts have shown that most people that
immigrate to the US is not as successful as others and another example is how African Americans
were denied being successful. The reasons that America is not a land of opportunities are many people
are discriminated based on their race, most white people sees other races as unwanted and led to
segregation, and most laws before the end of 1920s is biased to most whites. First of all, the main
reason that America is not a land of opportunity at this time is discriminations against race and
genders. As an example, blacks in the Reconstruction era are really discriminated and treated like
slaves or criminals and they are worthless and unneeded by the whites. Johnson believed that African
American had no role to play in Reconstruction this quote can be found in the lecture notes and it
proves my point that in the Reconstruction era African Americans or Blacks are mistreated and didn t
even seen as equal human beings by the majority or White Southerners. We can see more mistreatment

Americans rights as human beings and most of these codes are inhumane. According to the Louisiana

School Uniforms: Out of Style School uniforms have been around for decades within many private
and parochial schools. In recent years more and more public schools are implementing their own
uniforms hoping to see a change for the good within their schools. Upon researching the effects of
these uniforms, it is clear to see that school uniforms are unnecessary concepts that decrease student
individuality and do not actually help school attendance or test scores. Prior to taking a strong stance
on this controversial topic, it is crucial to understand the background of this concept. According to Pro

when the Archbishop of Canterbury mandated that students wear a robe like outfit called the cappa

comes about. As years passed, school uniforms began being associated with upper class schools. In the
United States, school uniforms followed the English uniform norms and tended to be implemented
only within private and parochial schools. In 1987, the first public schools to adopt a school uniform

conscious mind. However, subliminal messages are registered by the subconscious, and theoretically
can influence a person s thoughts, actions, and decisions. The messages can be images flashed or
hidden in other, larger images, audio such as speaking that is not perceivable, or other examples of
stimuli such as smells that pass below the attention threshold. When used, subliminal message s
purposes are to influence the mind in some way to cause certain behaviors, thoughts, or actions
(Treimer Simonson, 1988).
Prior to research, there was only vague understanding of the idea of subliminal messages. The idea
sounded implausible, like some kind of strange superpower, and the belief was that controlling a
person s thoughts or behaviors with things unnoticeable to people was just science fiction. Such ideas
as advertisements that tried to trick your mind into doing a certain thing, and audio tapes that could
supposedly boost concentration or other mental processes had been heard of before. However, there
was no idea that these things were subliminal

Parkinson s disease is complex neuro degenerative disease and is considered idiopathic with only a
small percentage of cases considered genetically linked. Diagnosis is based solely on a patient s
history, age, and clinical manifestations. Early onset Parkinson s varies from idiopathic Parkinson s in
that there is a mutation in the Parkin gene. Pathophysiology can be defined as the physiology of

45. Analysis Of Customer Profitability Analysis For Derrick s...
Customer Profitability Analysis Using BCG matrix for Derrick s Ice Cream Co.
Derrick s Ice Cream Company is located in modern premises and manufactures and distributes 30
different ice cream product lines from its suburban base in the UK. The products are distributed by
Derrick s own fleet of refrigerated trucks to six major wholesale distributors.
Annual sales are currently around the £10m level, distributed among the wholesalers as indicated in
Table 1. Derrick s control about 35% of its metropolitan market, but this shrinks to less than 10% in
outlying areas where there are many small competitors.

The cold stores cost is approximately £500000 p.a. to run, but excess capacity can be hired out to
other non competing firms.
The requirement of meeting the sometimes uniquely specific requirements of customers has been
causing Derrick s management some serious headaches recently. They recognize the importance of a
client focused approach to marketing and distribution, but are beginning to feel that they are being
exploited by some customers who are never satisfied with the level of service provided, however
extensive it may be and this is costing them a lot of money.
So, to analyze the current situation we will form a BCG matrix and recommend decision on its results.
BCG matrix will help us to examine distributors in he company s portfolio on the basis of their related
market share and industry growth rates.
In other words, it is a comparative analysis of business potential and the evaluation of environment.
According to this matrix, business could be classified as high or low according to their industry
growth rate and relative market share.
Relative Market Share = SBU Sales this year / leading competitors sales this

46. Taste Aversion through Classical Conditioning Essay
Taste Aversion through Classical Conditioning
Classical conditioning states that learning is a gradual process, that it is not possible for a subject to be
classically condition in only one trial. However, if you eat something and become sick from it, there is
a very good probability that you will develop a strong distaste for that food. This effect is known as
taste aversion, which has brought up many questions about classical conditioning.
It was Garcia and Koelling (1966) who studied the level of conditioning in rats using two conditioned
stimulus (CS), an audiovisual stimulus and a salty flavor added to drinking water. The two
unconditioned stimulus (UCS), a mild foot shock and a nausea producing drug. In the conditioning ...

It is seen that the rats promptly learned to associate a taste CS with a UCS of nausea but not with the
foot shock, where the audiovisual CS was conditioned to the foot shock but not to nausea (Walker
1995).
Taste aversion has violated three principles of classical conditioning, the first is that equal
associability of stimuli: any CS can be paired with any UCS. This has proven to be untrue because if it
were, the rats that became sick would have avoided both the salty water CS and the audiovisual CS.
The second principle violated is temporal contiguity: CS and UCS have to be presented close together
in time. Again untrue in this case because of such a long delay between drinking the salty water and
becoming sick. The third and final principle is that learning is gradual, but in this case only one trial
was enough.
The studies done by Garcia and Koelling have had much support from many other experiments done
in similar or the same situations. A study of ingestional aversion (Gregg, Melanie, Kittrell, Domjan
Amsel, 1978), where 12 and 15 day old rats were conditioned by infusing a .5% solution of saccharin
into the oral cavity. This was then followed by an oral infusion by the injection of lithium chloride. At
both ages, subjects that had saccharin exposure was followed by a lithium injection within 2 to 3
minutes drank less when the
