Political Irrectness In The Play Oleanna
Picture someone patting someone on the back in the spirit of reassurance, now picture the
recipient and notice that they see an opportunity to exploit a system in order to beat a dead
horse. Thesis: The overall structure of political correctness is flawed, it does things such as
create room to exploit language on a legal level, demean and create a useless pressure to be
mindful of one s words. Not to say however that one should be rude. These reasons are why one
could argue that the PC movement does more harm than good. The play Oleanna highlights how
political correctness can be used and exploited to forward a personal opinion. Oleanna, a play
written by David Mamet, is widely renowned for its unique style and appeal. Most of all,
however, it is the story within that appeals to most people. In this play, a character known as
Carol is shown at first as a student seeking help. Later on in the play, however, it is revealed that
her appearance in the office of John, a college professor, had many ulterior motives. Over the
course of the play, she takes advantage of politically correct language, using it to thrash John with
increasing intensity. Carol eventually goes to attack John for referring to the tenure committee as
good men . To refer to the committee as Good Men and True, it is a demeaning remark. It is a
sexist remark, and to overlook it is to countenance continuation of that method of thought (Mamet
32). This use of Political Correctness is clearly not the

Conflict Between Conflict And Conflict Management
1.People are afraid of conflict because they do not have essential skills to manage it well. This is
true because according to O Grady and Malloch (2016), conflict is reflection of an insufficient
knowledge of the dynamics of conflict and a lack of capability in its management. In the case of
Nancy, perhaps she needs to undergo specialty training or classes about conflictmanagement in
order to improve their unit s dynamic or interaction.
2.If you engage with conflict too early, there is a chance that the situation might have been
misconstrued and sufficient time will not have passed to make sure that all of the elements of
the conflict have emerged appropriately. This is false because the earlier recognition of conflicts
help lessen and even inhibit its further development in the clinical setting (O Grady Malloch,
2016). Nancy should not wait that long in dealing with her uncomfortable feelings or concerns
with her staff, and vice versa. They should have an open communication in dealing with their
individual issues or concerns in order to avoid any cascade of event that will lead to the
development of a long term conflict which may affect the dynamic of their unit (probably may
affect their performance as a team in the end). According to O Grady and Malloch (p. 131, 2016),
each cascading extension of the conflict becomes increasingly more difficult to resolve.
3.Emotions must be controlled and separated from the conflict so that the real issues can be

Persuasive Speech On Earth Day
Carbon dioxide levels in the air are at their highest in 650,000 years
9 out of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred since 2000.
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is TWICE the size of continental U.S. and is believed to hold
almost 100 million tons of garbage
Our planet is now in the sixth mass extinction of plants and animals
If every country were to consume as much as the United States alone it would be as if there were a
global population of 72 billion people.
Have I got your attention? Good...scary stuff right?
With Earth day having just passed, I figured now was a good time to help spread the message
that although a special day was marked on your calendar, we need to consider every day Earth
Day. We do not own Earth. Earth is our home and we are merely passing through and it is not our
right to trash it nor exhaust its resources as we please. And while the planet as a whole might seem
big, your individual, everyday decisions can leave a lasting impact.
1. Turn off the lights when you re not in the room
2. Unplug things when you re not using them
3. Carpool
4. But if you re going somewhere in walking or biking distance...ditch the car
5. Take pride in leftovers!!
(Americans waste 40% of food each year. Food that ends up in landfills and turns into a greenhouse

The Ownership Advantage Of IKEA
Question 2a: Identify two of your firm s ownership advantages that allow it to successfully compete
internationally. Please explain your answers?
The most important and significant ownership advantage of IKEA is their brand value. With a
brand value of 15,885 million USD, IKEA is ranked 26th on the top 100 of Interbrand s Best
Global Brands. IKEA had an increase in sales and operating income in 2013 of respectively 3 and
15 percent (1). Interbrand uses three key components to evaluate the brands. The first key
component is a Financial Analysis which measures the economic profit of the brand. Economic
profit is the difference between the earned revenue and the opportunity cost of the input (2). The
second key component is the Role of Brand or in other words the influence on customer choice.
Role of Brand measures the proportion of the decision to purchase that is attributable to the brand
relative to other factors. Applying Role of Brand to forecast profits gives the earnings attributed to
the brand alone. Interbrand s last key component is Brand Strength, which is a diagnostic tool for
measuring brand performance relative to competition. It supports brand management with
identifying areas of highest business impact (3). Applying these three analysis on the brand IKEA

The Rose Vs. The Red Candle
The song The Rose by Bette Midler is some sort similar to the chapter the The Red Candle. In the
chapter The Red Candle it talks about a girl named Lindo Jong, which is forced to marry a boy
from another family, that she doesn t like. In song it talks about different types of love gentle love
like a flower, sharp lovelike a razor and soothing love like a river. I think in this situation in the
book love is like a razor, because their love is not really and it is cutting her up inside. The part
that is like the razor is Of course, now I know the tree trunked lady was the old village

D-Day Of Nazi Germany Essay
June 6, 1944, marked the start of the liberation of Nazi Germany. Many lives were lost by both
sides but all of those lives that were lost were brave people who fought for a great cause. To
make this day a success the US made many fake attacks. These attacks played an amazing role in
the win of the war. D Day was a major turning point in WWII; without a win on the beaches of
Normandy Nazi Germanywould ve kept getting stronger.
The US and its allied forces (Britain and Canada) had many conferences to talk about how and
where they were going to attack Nazi, Germany. Some of the most important conferences were the
Sextant and Eureka meetings. At both of the meetings the people talked about the battle strategy
and who was going where. All allied generals were required to come to these (CNN.com). The US

The Street Parishes incorporate the villages adjacent to the old Roman road known as The Street ,

Utilitarianism In Little Women By Louisa May Alcott
Little Women
By:
Louisa May Alcott
A Victorian literature characteristic shown in Little Women is utilitarianism. This is shown
throughout the book as the four girls, Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy were so kind and often tried to
do things that make others happy and don t expect anything in return. This characteristic is
evident when Beth said I ll tell you what we ll do, let s each get her (their dear mother)
something for Christmas, and not get anything for ourselves (6). In this scene, the four sisters,
who get along beautifully, were sitting by the fire and when they notice how worn out their
mother s slippers were. Initially, they didn t get any gifts or presents for Christmas since their
father was away at war and they had to save money so they decided to use a little of their hard
earned money to each buy something for themselves. But after seeing the condition of Marmee s
slippers, they decide to use their own money to buy something nice for their mother. This quote
shows utilitarianism because the Beth, Meg, Jo, and Amy all give up their own hard earned money
to do something nice and considerate for someone else. Essentially, the four loving sisters thought
of doing something to make someone happy and put themselves aside for a while.
Another Victorian literature characteristic shown in this book is social classstructure. This is
evident throughout the entire novel because Meg, Beth, Jo, Amy, and Marmee are all quite poor
and face many different issues

How Did Historians Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement
The Civil Rights Movement is often thought to begin with a tired Rosa Parks defiantly declining to
give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid the price by going to jail. Her refusal
sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which civil rights historians have in the past credited with
beginning the modern civil rights movement. Others credit the Supreme Court s landmark decision
in Brown v. Board of Education with beginning the movement. Regardless of the event used as the
starting point of the moment, everyone can agree that it is an important period in history. In the
forty five years since the modern civil rights movement, several historians have made significant
contributions to the study of this era. These historians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the side of white
supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had previously aligned African
Americans and poorer whites in a fight against poverty, Brown elevated racial status above class.
Also, the decision made those in power in the South exert their disproportionate political power to
keep the state government in their hands. Finally, some Southerners who normally would not care
about race were swayed by the fact that the federal government was trying to impose a decision in
education an arena typically reserved for state government. This made the fight one of states rights
versus federal decree. Klarman s argument claims that this mobilization of white resistance in the
South led to increased tension and violence against African Americans. For example, the bitter
protests in Birmingham and Selma, along with the violence in the Black Belt areas of Lowndes
County, where police dogs, fire hoses and lynching were used came as a result of this massive
resistance movement. This violence, when media attention was paid to it, converted northern
whites to the civil rights cause by exposing the true evils of the Jim Crow system. Civil rights
leaders, such as Martin Luther King, played on that knowledge and specifically targeted cities
where the most powerful backlash would occur, gaining them media air time and allowing the
Northerners to

Patrick Henry s Speech To The Virginia Convention Summary
In Patrick Henry s Speech to the Virginia Convention , he states , I have but one lamp by which
my feet are guided; and that is the lamp of experience (Henry 3). Henry gave this speech on
March 23, 1775 at Richmond, Virginia. He recognized that the relationship between the 13
colonies and Great Britain was turning sour. Henry has previous experiences with Britain have
lead him to believing that a war is the best decision. Patrick Henry stood before the colonists of
Virginia, and gave them a compelling speech of why their relations with Englandhas to change.
Patrick Henry gave a homely called Speech to the Virginia Convention , in which he utilized
persuasive tone and allusion to relay his views of Great Britain to the colonists of Virginia.
Henry s persuasive tone advises his fellow colonists to rebel against England in order to gain
their freedom. In the opening of his speech, he claims, No man thinks more highly than I do of
the patriotism, as well as abilities, of the very worthy gentlemen who have just addressed the
House (Henry 1). Henry treats his fellow congressmen with respect in order to gain credibility
and trust, in order to be more persuasive to the audience. Patrick Henry s approach is peaceful, as
he is avoiding aggressiveness. Which, gains the trust and respect of his peers. This persuades the
colonists to take Henry seriously, because and gives them the sense that he is not belittling them.

Abraham s Assassination
Abraham Lincoln s assassination was a major event after the civil war and had a huge effect on
the confederates after taking a major loss after the civil war.
Some wonder why Booth decided to assassinate Abraham. There are many different thoughts that
people have about what his reasoning might be for assassinating one of the most favorited
presidents to ever to be our president. There are many different sides on the topic of the reasoning
for the assassination and what his thoughts were for making this horrible decision of assassinating
Abraham. Booth was a confederate who strongly believed in the confederates and wanted the
Confederates to win the war so bad that he would assassinate Abraham, even though the

that it was all over. Abraham Lincolnwas assassinated because the confederates lost, Booth needed

The Aspects Of Gender Roles In The Return Of Martin Guerre
Throughout history, our society has created gender norms that are followed consistently by
members of communities. Though they differ from place to place, we recognize trends that seem
almost prescribed to certain genders. Specifically, in the 1600s, men and women had explicit roles
that were designated by people of stature. These expectations were followed loyally and people who
failed to follow suit were shunned or sometimes even suffered seriously punishment including crude
public beatings that were mot only pain inflicting but also status damaging (Rocke, Genderand
Sexual Culture, 159). Looking deeper into the novel The Return of Martin Guerre, we identify
from the start the expectations that are in place and how they play a role in the story. In
comparison of Characters, taking into consideration the standard that had been set for men of this
era, we notice that Pansette (Arnaud du Tilh) is an almost faultless example of what is expected
for men and in contrast, Martin Guerre fails to meet these standards. First, some background on
what was expected of men at this time. Natalie Zemon Davis describes expectancies of men
through a number of instances in Martin Guerre s life. Men had large roles to fulfill both in their
households and in the community. At home, the male was considered the lord of the household and
was expected to provide for the family. In the article Manhood, Patriarchy, and Gender, Alexandra
Shepard illustrates manhood as being in control,

children must place in the hallways of the building, because playing outside is to much of a risk.

The Conflict Between Military Life And Civilian Life
For many decades now, many brave men and women have joined the military in order to serve the
country and protect the rights that are entitled to the American populace. However, when they
return back to the states, some soldiers are not able to the cope between the drastic differences
between military life and civilian life; as a result, they can be homeless veterans living on the
streets. The average citizens consider these veterans as just bums and consider them through the
mindset of out of sight, out of mind . Meanwhile, municipalities are acting no better as they enact
rules that discriminate against the homeless, including laws prohibiting public loitering,
panhandling, and squatting. It appears that the public and the government clearly do not do much
in terms of helping those that may need assistance, especially former soldiers that fought to protect
them. While there are several factors that can affect servicemen into becoming homeless, the
knowledge of the factors can be utilized appropriately by the citizens and officials to properly treat
these heroes and return them to housed, civilized lives instead of just shunning them. Back in 2007,
the National Law Center on Homelessnessand Poverty reported that roughly 3.5 million people are
likely to be homeless in a given year and the National Coalition for the Homeless in 2009 states
that between one fifth and one fourth of all homeless people are veterans. Besides the numbers

How Important Was Stresemann

itself had lost many of their own family. Famine stroke and Germans were hungry. As Germany
already had so many debts to pay for losing the war they didn t have enough to feed their own
people. In this essay we will discuss how significant Stressman was in the recovery of his country.
Stresemann was the leader of the German peoples party, he was supported by the social democrats
when he became chancellor in 1923. Stresemann Wanted to help his country by finding a way to
make paying for reparations less heavy on the shoulders of his country. To do so he undertook

As the government chose to print more money to pay their debts to the big three for losing the war,
the value of money decreased. To stop that whole problem of hyperinflation Stresemann decided to
replace the old worthless money with Rentenmark, a currency that he created to stop the problem of
hyperinflation.
Stresemann used the money lent by the USA by reinvesting that money to build new factories,
which meant that more Germans had jobs and that meant that Germans could be able to provide
for their families. It also generated income for the country and more goods were produced and they
could trade with other countries. The money lent by the USA was put to good use and Germany was
becoming richer and more able to pay the debts.
Stresemann then agreed to the Locarno treaty, the Locarno treaty enabled Germany to join the
league of nations and it made Germany agree that they would respect the borders set by the Treaty
of Versailles. This secured Germany and France from attacks as they agreed to not attack each
other but in the case of Germany attacking France, France would be backed up by Britain and other
countries. The fact that Germany joined the League of Nations made its trade increase as it made

Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence Stratigraphy
Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic
framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It
enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence
stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the
depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of
the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally
designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It
now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects.
The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their
upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977).
And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is
interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The
systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems
Tract (FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and
Highstand Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of

Smoking is illegal on public transport and in the following public places: healthcare facilities,
educational facilities, and places of worship. In other types of public places and in workplaces,
designated smoking areas must be provided. With respect to outdoor places, children s
playgrounds must be smoke free. The realization of smoke free places and smoking restricted
places, however, requires passage of laws by local governments. The national law does not set a
limit by which local governments must act, so some local governments have passed smoke free
legislation while others have not. Sub national jurisdictions may pass smoke free

Sociological Perspectives In Sociology
Three major sociological approaches in the field of sociology are known as functionalist, conflict,
and symbolic interactionist perspectives. The three sociological approaches are utilized to explain
and enhance why racism is prominent in the United States. These viewpoints each discussed racism,
but by using different terminology and specific focuses, each perspective is able to illustrate very
unique and diverse concepts. As stated by Kendall (2015), Racism is a set of attitudes, beliefs, and
practices that is used to justify the superior treatment of one racial or ethnic group and the inferior
treatment of another racial or ethnic group (p. 284). As Kendall (2015) defined, dominant groups
are racial or ethnic groups that have the greatest power and resources in a society. Subordinate
groups are ones whose members, because of physical or cultural characteristics, are disadvantaged
and subjected to unequal treatment and discrimination by the dominant group. (p. 283). In the
society found in the United States, dominant groups incorporated white Americans while
subordinate groups incorporated individuals such as immigrants, African Americans, and Asian
Americans. The difference between all three perspectives begins with the context of how dominant
and subordinate groups are used in the explanation of racism. Functionalist perspectives analyzed
racism on a macro level in which the dynamics of the subordinate and dominate groups in the
entirety of society is critiqued

The more molecules that are able to escape into the vapor, the greater the decrease in
temperature due to evaporative cooling. Thus, a larger negative О”T corresponds to a substance
in which the IMFs are weak. A greater number of electrons correspond to a great polarizability of
a molecule. Greater polarizability leads to greater dispersion forces. Thus, as molar mass increases,
the number of electrons increase, which increases the polarizability of the molecule and hence the
strength of the dispersion forces of the substance. 4. In Molecular Series II (Branched Chain
Alcohols): As you go through the group from 1 butanol пѓ sec butanol пѓ 1 ter butanol: A. The
dipole moments, surface area (shape), steric hindrances, and change in temperature (degree of

How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, and Halfie
The short story How to Date a Browngirl, Blackgirl, Whitegirl, and Halfie by Junot Diaz is the
main character, Yunior s, guide to dating girls of different races and the ways to act in order to get
what you want from them. The only thing Yunior seems to want for these girls is sexual acts. This
short story argues that a person s heritage, economic class, and raceaffect how a person identifies
themselves, and how their identity affects how they act towards other people. The pressures a
person may feel from society also has an effect on how a person treats themselves and others. The
pressure and expectations from society are also what makes Yunior think he needs to have sex with
these girls. There are many different occasions of the main... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He acts differently towards his friends and other boys his age in the neighborhood. For example,
when his friend refers to the girl Yunior is trying to date as that bitch Yunior only agrees with
him (Diaz 236). He doesn t defend them at all, which is an indication that he doesn t care for
these girls at all, only what they ll do for him. He also says that he will call his friends and let
them know He did it if he does hook up with one of these girls, with no respect for them. This is
indicating that he is trying to hook up with these girls because he feels like his friends expect him
too. Yunior does this because he sees other boys doing these things, and he wants to be like them.
He wants to be the same and be accepted, and that s why he treats these different people in different
ways. The main character also treats girls of different races differently. He wrongly suggests that if
a girl is white, that you will definitely get a hand job before the night is through, if not more
(Diaz 235). He says that white girls are the girls everyone really wants to date, because they are
easy. This is why he does many things that white boys do. He also says that not many white girls
live in his neighborhood, that the locals tend to be brown girls, black girls, or halfies. This is
probably because many of the white people are of a higher economic class then he is. If they are in
a higher economic class then he is, this may

Morality Of Homelessness
Homelessness not only affects politics, the economy, and social environments, it also heavily
influences morality. Should homelessness continue in its current state, the moral compass of
humanity as a whole will be thrown off. Caring for those around us who have experienced troubles
should be something that is actively sought to fix, not ignored. By ignoring the issue, we create an
aura of indifference to, not just human suffering, but suffering that we experience close to our
homes. The continuing existence of homelessness can be seen as a contradiction to the Building
Blocks of Catholic Social Teaching, especially The Principle of Solidarity, The Principle of the
Common Good, and The Principle of Preferential Protection for the Poor

Denali Park Research Paper
Denali National Park is one of the most beautiful sights in the United States. The park is located
in the state of Alaska. It has many areas in its location for its size being about 6,200,000 million
acres. The main thing I am here to discuss is the issues that surround Denali Park. The park is
experiencing problems with the severe climate change, excessive hunting, and possible
endangerment. All these problems have been in the media lately because of the park s history. It is
still the top tourist attraction in Alaska. The environment of Denali needs to be solved
immediately because it is one of the most known parks in the world. It would be a shame if the
problem wasn t fixed. Alaska s background is so beautiful with nature. Its wildlife has so much
variety in its location. Animals such as bears, caribou, moose, foxes, and notorious wolves roam
Denali. There are many other animals, including fish that live in that site. Not only many beautiful
animals live there but plants, lichens, mosses live there too. It holds up to 650 species of
vegetation. In a cold area, it is surprising that many plants live there. But... Show more content on

parks as well from these dangers to life. Climate change, hunting, or even endangerment should

The United States And Nuclear Families
Though most people would believe that the majority of families in the United States are nuclear
families, because that is what is considered to be normal, that is untrue. The majority of families in
the U.S. deviate from nuclear households. My family is no different. My family has not been
considered nuclear for several years now. My familyconstists of my mother, stepfather, my older
stepbrother, me, my younger stepbrother, and my younger biological brother. As for extended
family, I still have all four of my grandparents, one great grandmother, three aunts, three uncles,
and several cousins. Each of these people all still play a role in my life, and I am very close to
them. The people I live with which are my mom, step father, brother, and youngest step brother,
play the most significant roles in my life. They especially play the biggest parts when it comes
to rule creation and enforcement and use of power within the family more so than my extended
family do in those areas. As with most families, the parents in my house were in charge of rule
creation and enforcement in my household. When my step father first moved in to our house this
was a big issue. His parenting style was extremely different from what my mom and dad s was. I
was fifteen and my brother was eleven when my mom married our stepdad; it was a hard age to be
making an adjustment to a whole new parenting style. Our family went from a loving environment
where the children had freedom as long as they proved

Moonlight Movie Analysis
At the Hot Wings and Hot Topics, we watched the movie, Moonlight, which is about a Black
American man named Chiron, and takes place in 1980 in Miami. The movie is about 3 parts of
Chiron s life; young adolescence, mid teen, and young adult. The first Chapter is his childhood in
which he is known as Little. He lived in a neighborhood full of crime with his mom who was a drug
addict. Little is a little, shy boy who tends to be bullied. He has one friend his age named Chris,
and a drug dealer named Juan, who sees how neglected Little is from his mom. Because of this,
Juan tries to give as much care to Little, and so does his girlfriend, Teresa, and they allow Chiron
to go to their house whenever he needs to get away from the bullying or his mother. The next
chapter is Chiron, and is about his teen life. This is where we learn a little about Chiron s
sexuality, and when he begins to stick up for himself towards the end of the chapter. We see peer
pressure in this chapter because if affect what Chiron, and his friends are accepted to do. In the
third chapter, Black, we see Chiron all good up, and no longer skinny, but built like a strong
man. After leaving Miami, Black is a drug dealer, is no longer weak, but is a drug dealer like
Juan. He has a lot of masculinity now with his body, and what he wears. His old friend, Chris,
gives him a call to come see him after years, and we are left with them hugging each other. The
discussion begins with the end of the movie when

Springbok Tour Essay
The events that occured in New Zealand during the 1981 Springbok tour were not simply
spontaneous. Instead, they were the result of New Zealanders becoming progressively uneasy over
a number of years with New Zealand s readiness to compete with the Springboks.
The 1960 tour is credited as the starting point for the debate surrounding sporting contact with South
Africa. There was extensive public discussion and anger over the NZRFU s decision to exclude
MДЃori from the All Blacks. In 1959 the All Blacks received an invitation to tour South Africathe

The Apartheid regime and term apartheid in South Africa was introduced in 1948 as a part of
Daniel Francois Malan s election campaign. The apartheid system was a type of racial
segregation introduced in South Africa in 1948, resulting in the majority of Blacks in South
Africa being refused basic human rights, whilst whites were living in a time of white supremacy
. It included laws such as the Population Registration Act 1950, the Reservation of Separate
Amenities Act 1953, and the Immorality Act 1950. These laws severely limited the rights of
blacks. The apartheid system forcefully suppressed any resistance, such as at Sharpeville on
March 21 1960, when 69 blacks were killed, and the Soweto Riots 1976 77, when 576 people
died. This abuse towards people of colour in South Africa made people around the world want to
protest against South Africa s government. However, the New Zealand government did not take
serious action against South Africa. The National government had a protocol of bridge building ,
which sustained ties with South Africa. They allowed sporting contact, such as a Springbok tour
of New Zealand in 1960. This led to protest in 1981 because the government s lack of action
against the abuse caused by the apartheid system made people want to protest

This form of assessment allows me to find out children s prior learning experiences and interests
and gives me an indication of where they are at, whilst children getting to have a voice in what
goes on in their classroom. On top of that, at the start of the term children would be able to engage
in theme based lessons by inquiring them to suggest themes they d like to study over the next half
term, this gives children the power to take control of their own learning and supports children s
intrinsic motivation of wanting to learn for themselves.
Again, due to the fact that children s interests and experiences are used to form a platform for
learning, the thematic approach tends to lend itself to be more motivating for pupils in conjunction
with their wider life experiences, as suggested by Barnes (2009). (Mumford. D (2000) Planning a

children responds positively to the same style of teaching or the same stimulus. However, he
neglects that motivation arises from many sources and children are inspired by different and
unpredictable outputs. It is therefore understood that cross curricular approach will not suit all

Music And Its Importance On The Human Brain
Andie M. Partida
Ms.Ponder
English IV, 6 Pd.
28 February,2015 Music And Its Importance On The Human Brain Music affects people of all
ages developmentally , intellectually and medically as well as it affects their social , personal
lives. In other words, music affects the way in which we think , behave and feel. Music tends to
have a positive effect on the transfer of learning. For example , learning to play an instrument
enhances the ability to remember words through enlargement of the left cranial temporal regions of
the brain. A study brought up by the Institute of Education at the University of London shows that
musically trained participants remembered 17 percent more verbal information then those without
musical training (Hallam 2012). Extensive active engagement with music induces cortical
reorganization producing functional changes in how the brain handles information. When this is
an occurrence in an early stage of development , usually in children and young adults, it may
produce permanent changes in the way information is being processed into the brain. These
changes display what exactly has been learned and how it has been learned. According to the
article, Transfer of cognitive learning from one domain to another depends on the similarities
between the processes involved, transfer can be near and far and it is stronger and more likely to
occur if its near (Hallam 2012). To continue with this aim, Salamon

The Neural Correlates Of Religious And Spiritual Development
It is well established that adolescence marks a significant period for developmental changes
physiologically (Erikson, 1968; Hall, 1904) and spiritually (Good Willoughby, 2008). Researchers
have begun exploring the neural correlates of religious and spiritual development, establishing that
there is surge in brain connections and maturation during adolescenceresulting in development of
abstract thinking skills. At and around the transition to puberty, adolescents are able to perceive and
consider multiple perspectives of their beliefs, especially in the light of reasoning, evidence, and
rational thinking (Byrnes, 2003). Since this abstract thinking is targeted towards non concrete ideas
and deductive reasoning, concepts of religion and spirituality are subjected to reason as well.
Adolescents are better able to test hypothesis related to beliefs such as spirituality, therefore
engaging in more spiritual exploration than their younger counterparts (Chapell Overton, 1998).
Despite the unique developmental changes associated with puberty, available empirical evidence of
spiritual conversion and commitment is still lacking in longitudinal evidence (Donelson, 1999).
Self Worth
Self worth, the regard a person feels for themselves (Harter 2012), is related to well being and
positive mental health (Kling et al, 1999). Self worth is particularly important to study
developmentally, especially since adolescents are going through identity development and thus rely

King Leopoldto Imperialism
During late 1880s, King Leopold the II of Belgium began the colonization of the then largely

Belgian expansionism through King Leopold s Congo. It is not the main events or the most
influential world leaders at this period in history that I wish to consider. Rather, analyzing the
nature of Belgian colonialismthrough the colonization of the Congo. In particular, I will focus on
three main issues: (1) the political motives; (2) the cultural values; and (3) economic upheaval.

with financial issues he had secured much of the land through excessive spending, but in order to
take advantage of the trade opportunities he had to find more funding. In order to secure funds for
the continuation of his colonization, King Leopold approached the Belgian Parliament. He
promised Parliament that if they gave him a loan, he would leave the Congo to the government in
his will. Leopold managed to get the loan the basis of his philanthropic work. This enabled him to
take advantage of the trade within the Congo. Belgium now had the monopoly on the rubber trade,
but it came with a price. The human toll that the rubber industry had on the Congo devastated the

However, is this gene manipulation ethical? From a scientist s view, genetic engineering may

The Impact Of Multifamily Residential On Real Estate Market
Multifamily residential is a sector in real estate market. It is a type of housing where multiple
separate housing units for residential inhabitants are contained within one building or several
buildings within one complex (Resource: Appendix 26). The classifications of multifamily housing
are various. According to the methods of classifying online (Resource: Appendix 27), the
multifamily are divided into duplex or semi detached (in some cities, it is called two flat), three flat,
four flat, townhouse, apartmentbuilding, mixed use building, and apartment community. Although
multifamily targets for the number of householders are over one, each sub segment of multifamily
has different targets and focuses. Based on the variety of geology, demography, climate,
hydrology, culture, history, and other factors, each sub segment fits in different lands or cities.
For example, duplex is common in Milwaukee (Resource: Appendix 28), because duplex is
popular in Poland, and Polish immigrants built those houses to live in. In Chicago (Resource:
Appendix 29), duplex is an old signature of American workplaces and living houses, and they are
reserved in Chicago to satisfy the needs of residents there.
A duplex house is a dwelling having apartments with separate entrances for two households. This
includes two story houses having a complete apartment on each floor and also side by side

The Attack By Yasmina Khadra
There is no denying that violence can impact a person in harmful ways, however, that is not
always the case. In Yasmina Khadra s The Attack, characters experience different kinds of violence,

Project Management Maturity Models
MGT 401
Assignment
04 July 2013
Introduction
The focus of this report is to present what Honeywell needs to do to move from level 1 to Level 2
. An organizational project management maturity level has reached a Level 2 when an organization
has achieved the following objectives:
An organization has defined its Initial Processes (Reactive Management) and Informal PM
processes.
An organization has also created and implemented a common language around project and program
management.
An organization has constructed a process framework for project management.
Moreover, senior management has communicated a direction and set goals for the strategy for
project management..
Organizations have identified project management data that have been obtained informally.
(Lia,2009).
However, Honeywell Program Management maturity model encompasses five levels of maturity as
well as six process areas. Honeywell management needs to implement some strategies to reach Level
2 of the project Management maturity.
Suggestions for Honeywell to reach Level 2
PMO (Program Management Office) is an operation center that supports and governs a project
from the start to finish. Typically, the PMO plays an important role in a project management. The

For the effect will be measured in term of rate of VAP via an experimental study, this data
collecting method is called experimental methodology (Guba, 1990). Therefore, a positivism
paradigm will be more appropriate for this proposal.
Literature Review
Literature review is necessary and essential skill for researcher as it explains and justifies why the
topic is chosen and its importance (Abbot, 1993).
In this proposal, literature search was conducted by using the keywords of nosocomial pneumonia
or ventilator associated pneumonia , and oral hygiene or oral care through the electronic
databases: ProQuest, CINAL and PubMed in the electronic libraries of Hong Kong Hospital
Authority (HKHA) and Oxford Brookes University. Besides searching by keyword, the publication
year was restricted for ensuring up dated information. The reference lists of those collected articles
provided additional publication.
VAP is defined as pneumonia that develops in an intubated patient after 48 hours or more of
mechanical ventilation (Fields, 2008). It is the most common nosocomial infection in mechanically
ventilated patients and is a preventable secondary consequence of intubation and mechanical
ventilation (Barclay Vega, 2005), so its development and prevention is a concern.
Oral health is influenced by dental plaque,

The Role Of Excessive Rewarding For Children In Sports
Excessive rewarding for children in sports can play a role in depleting their competitive traits.
Being competitive can be a good thing that will help children later in life when trying to be the
best candidate for a job. There has been a seismic shift in American culture in an effort to make
each childfeel special. The mentality has created an atmosphere where everyone gets a trophy, but
awarding medals and trophies just for participation sets the bar very low, according to experts.
Trophies make kids feel like finishing in last place may be good enough ( Mens Journal http:/

Ankle Sprains
Introduction
Ankle sprain injuries are most common in team sports that include contact, jumping, sharp cutting
manoeuvres and running, such as football, volleyball, handball and basketball (Fong et al and
Thacker et al). Pefanis et al found that 10% to 30% of the injuries recorded in football, basketball
and volleyball are ankle sprains.
According to physioroom.com, ankle sprain is the 2nd most common injury footballer players suffer
from. Woods et al found that over two seasons in the English football leagues, 11% of the injuries
recorded were ankle sprains, and 77% of these involved the lateral ligament complex. They also
found that defenders (35%) and midfielders (31%) were the playing positions affected the most. In

Ankle sprains usually occur in professional football as a result from a tackle, making sharp cutting
edge movements, or landing awkwardly after jumping. The most common type of ankle sprain is to
the lateral ligaments (anterior talofibular, calcaneofibular and posterior talofibular ligaments) after
inversion plantar flexion and internal rotation of the ankle (85% of all reported ankle injuries).
At the time of the injury the athlete would feel pain on the lateral side of his ankle, and the ankle
would show signs of swelling and bruising (the swelling might start on impact, but it could also
take a few hours depending on the severity of the injury). A snap or tear sound may be heard, but
it is not of diagnostic significance (Tropp et al, Garrick, aofas.org, Khan and Bruker, nsmi.org and
Yeung et al).
The ankle sprain could be person related, like when the individual perform poorly executed tackles
or cutting manoeuvres to cause the inversion of the ankle. The injury could also be a result of
environmental risk factors, like the condition/irregularity of the pitch/field, position the athlete
plays in, and foul play (Willems et al and

The Rebirth of the U.S. Military Essay
The Rebirth of the U.S. Military During this last half of the twentieth century the US military was
under siege from all sides, internal and external. The root cause of this situation can be traced back
to Vietnam and the governments lack of true commitment. What resulted was the near destruction
of the US military. The military managed to come out in the end to become perhaps the best
military in the world by completely reevaluating itself and reorganizing almost every aspect . The
primary focus will be on the reorganization of the Army and Air force, and how they were affected
by the disaster of Vietnam. The US military managed to come out one top through completely
reorganizing the way the military works and thinks. Focusing... Show more content on

Even as the troops and material began to mount in Vietnam, there was no real plan on what to do
with those assets among the highest levels of government. In the future after Vietnam, the military
was adamant that this would not happen again. The crucial discussions among the highest echelons
of the government prior to war in June and July 1965 focused on the number of troops that would
be provided rather than for how and for what ends they would be used. The military would never
forget the governments ineptitude especially in the area of off limit targets. The North Vietnamese
Army had virtual sanctuaries were they could shuttle supplies and forces from, due to the fact that
Johnson didn t want to escalate the conflict. The restriction of bombing, mining, and blockade in
the North and on attacking sanctuaries in North Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia severely constrained
the military strategy of the generals. The added affect was for years to come there was distrust and
contempt between the military brass and the government. Johnson not only became increasingly
controlling of military matter s but neglected the domestic front. Presidential aides suggested the
creation of a citizen s committee to mobilize support at the grass roots level. Johnson rejected this
idea and others, public support programs weren t started until late 1967. By doing this he weekend

Jawbone Value Chain
Jawbone is a company founded by Hosain Rahman that specializes in portable audio products. It
was only in the year 2011 did Jawbone venture into the wearable technology industry. As of 2014,
Jawbone s wearable technology line includes the Jawbone UP and Jawbone UP24.
In order to do a value chain analysis on the company, Jawbone, we must first know what a value
chain is. A value chain, as defined by Michael Porter is the process or activities by which a
company adds value to an article, including production, marketing, and the provision of after sales
service . In terms of Jawbone s case, they have managed to create a successful and huge chain of

Jawbone managed to secure lucrative deals with top Chinese product suppliers, thus allowing
Jawbone to create a direct supply line to mass produce their earpieces at a relatively low price.
This has allowed them to establish successful Inbound Logistics for the company, thus they have
created value in one of the primary activities in Porter s Value Chain.
Moving on to Jawbone s expansion to the wearable technology industry, Jawbone manage to play to
their strengths. They used their competitive advantage with DARPA, allowing themselves to
distribute a suitable number of units necessary to land them a decently sized share in the market.
However, entering a new market meant there were a lot of challenges and problems Jawbone had
to face.
It was not easy for an audio specialized company to break into the health and fitness industry as they
had lacked the necessary resources and required technology. This resulted in them failing in their
attempt. However that does not change the fact that they were able to create a partnership with
Motion X (the motion sensor technology which they used for their UP products) even if the
partnership was established only through their status from their brand in the technology industry, as
well as secure a huge number of units for a product that they felt was functional and

A Large Computer Forensics Laboratory
A Coordination Plan is critical to the success of a large computer forensics laboratory. It is
necessary for not only members of the forensics team, but for synchronizing with organizational
leads and legal entities. Most labs are operated under best practices and are structured within a
hierarchy from the investigation assistant, the lab assistant, the lead investigator as well as the
project lead. These positions can be changed based on the case and expertise required. Best
practices state that personnel assignments should be made prior to starting the investigation. The
coordination plan should be discussed at all levels of an organization since the lab needs to comply
with the overall rules and regulations of the organization, but it is also likely that the lab s functions
will impact the organization at some point. Competencies Coordination is critical at the senior
leadership level in order to facilitate continuity of operations plan (COOP) planning. Most facilities
that are Information technology centric focuses primarily on IT contingency plan. The IT
contingency plan is a function of the COOP and must be orchestrated with great care. In order to
create a comprehensive COOP, many departments within the organization must be involved.
Finance, managers, network engineers, facilities personnel, system administrators, and security
professionals are key stakeholders during COOP development process. Coordination with outside
organizations is required in order to

The Systematic Destruction of the Native American Nations...
In the 1830 s, the American government decided to relocate the Native American peoples to
territories west of the Mississippi. The government came up with many reasons that the Native
Americans had to move. Those tribes that did not move voluntarily were forcefully relocated from
their ancestral lands. This forced move would later be known as The Trail of Tears. The American
government came up with many reasons that the Native American peoples needed to move west of
the Mississippi. Many Easterners felt that the move would protect Native American culture.1 Many

Supreme court declared Georgia s actions illegal and sided with the Cherokee on the basis of

changed when Andrew Jackson became president. President Jackson went against the Supreme
Court s ruling and backed Georgia s stance on Native American lands. President Jackson had a long
history with Native Americans. He fought against the Creek Indians during the war of 1812.9 He
did not believe that Native Americans were civilized enough to remain among the white settlers,
even though many Cherokee tribes had assimilated into white culture.10 Although President
Jackson was not the architect of the Indian relocation act, he was a long time believer in the
relocation of Native Americans.11 The passing of President Jackson s plan would not only affect
the Cherokee, but at least five major tribes throughout the United States. In his first State of the
Union Address in 1812, President Jackson presented his plan for Indian removal and encouraged
Congress to legalize his plan through legislation.12 President Jackson s stance on Indian removal
was that it would not only protect them from white influence, but that the move would ultimately
be beneficial to the Indians by preserving their cultures.13 In Fact, President Jackson felt that his
plan for relocation was very generous to

  • 2. Political Irrectness In The Play Oleanna Picture someone patting someone on the back in the spirit of reassurance, now picture the recipient and notice that they see an opportunity to exploit a system in order to beat a dead horse. Thesis: The overall structure of political correctness is flawed, it does things such as create room to exploit language on a legal level, demean and create a useless pressure to be mindful of one s words. Not to say however that one should be rude. These reasons are why one could argue that the PC movement does more harm than good. The play Oleanna highlights how political correctness can be used and exploited to forward a personal opinion. Oleanna, a play written by David Mamet, is widely renowned for its unique style and appeal. Most of all, however, it is the story within that appeals to most people. In this play, a character known as Carol is shown at first as a student seeking help. Later on in the play, however, it is revealed that her appearance in the office of John, a college professor, had many ulterior motives. Over the course of the play, she takes advantage of politically correct language, using it to thrash John with increasing intensity. Carol eventually goes to attack John for referring to the tenure committee as good men . To refer to the committee as Good Men and True, it is a demeaning remark. It is a sexist remark, and to overlook it is to countenance continuation of that method of thought (Mamet 32). This use of Political Correctness is clearly not the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Conflict Between Conflict And Conflict Management 1.People are afraid of conflict because they do not have essential skills to manage it well. This is true because according to O Grady and Malloch (2016), conflict is reflection of an insufficient knowledge of the dynamics of conflict and a lack of capability in its management. In the case of Nancy, perhaps she needs to undergo specialty training or classes about conflictmanagement in order to improve their unit s dynamic or interaction. 2.If you engage with conflict too early, there is a chance that the situation might have been misconstrued and sufficient time will not have passed to make sure that all of the elements of the conflict have emerged appropriately. This is false because the earlier recognition of conflicts help lessen and even inhibit its further development in the clinical setting (O Grady Malloch, 2016). Nancy should not wait that long in dealing with her uncomfortable feelings or concerns with her staff, and vice versa. They should have an open communication in dealing with their individual issues or concerns in order to avoid any cascade of event that will lead to the development of a long term conflict which may affect the dynamic of their unit (probably may affect their performance as a team in the end). According to O Grady and Malloch (p. 131, 2016), each cascading extension of the conflict becomes increasingly more difficult to resolve. 3.Emotions must be controlled and separated from the conflict so that the real issues can be ... The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is TWICE the size of continental U.S. and is believed to hold almost 100 million tons of garbage Our planet is now in the sixth mass extinction of plants and animals If every country were to consume as much as the United States alone it would be as if there were a global population of 72 billion people. Have I got your attention? Good...scary stuff right? With Earth day having just passed, I figured now was a good time to help spread the message that although a special day was marked on your calendar, we need to consider every day Earth Day. We do not own Earth. Earth is our home and we are merely passing through and it is not our right to trash it nor exhaust its resources as we please. And while the planet as a whole might seem big, your individual, everyday decisions can leave a lasting impact. 1. Turn off the lights when you re not in the room 2. Unplug things when you re not using them 3. Carpool 4. But if you re going somewhere in walking or biking distance...ditch the car 5. Take pride in leftovers!! (Americans waste 40% of food each year. Food that ends up in landfills and turns into a greenhouse gas called methane...not good) 6. Make it a goal to have less trash each week (Try to minimize your waste. • 5. The Ownership Advantage Of IKEA Question 2a: Identify two of your firm s ownership advantages that allow it to successfully compete internationally. Please explain your answers? The most important and significant ownership advantage of IKEA is their brand value. With a brand value of 15,885 million USD, IKEA is ranked 26th on the top 100 of Interbrand s Best Global Brands. IKEA had an increase in sales and operating income in 2013 of respectively 3 and 15 percent (1). Interbrand uses three key components to evaluate the brands. The first key component is a Financial Analysis which measures the economic profit of the brand. Economic profit is the difference between the earned revenue and the opportunity cost of the input (2). The second key component is the Role of Brand or in other words the influence on customer choice. Role of Brand measures the proportion of the decision to purchase that is attributable to the brand relative to other factors. Applying Role of Brand to forecast profits gives the earnings attributed to the brand alone. Interbrand s last key component is Brand Strength, which is a diagnostic tool for measuring brand performance relative to competition. It supports brand management with identifying areas of highest business impact (3). Applying these three analysis on the brand IKEA backs up the claim that IKEA belongs in the top 26 of firms with the highest Brand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In song it talks about different types of love gentle love like a flower, sharp lovelike a razor and soothing love like a river. Many lives were lost by both sides but all of those lives that were lost were brave people who fought for a great cause. To make this day a success the US made many fake attacks. These attacks played an amazing role in the win of the war. D Day was a major turning point in WWII; without a win on the beaches of Normandy Nazi Germanywould ve kept getting stronger. The US and its allied forces (Britain and Canada) had many conferences to talk about how and where they were going to attack Nazi, Germany. Some of the most important conferences were the Sextant and Eureka meetings. At both of the meetings the people talked about the battle strategy and who was going where. • 10. Utilitarianism In Little Women By Louisa May Alcott Little Women By: Louisa May Alcott A Victorian literature characteristic shown in Little Women is utilitarianism. This is shown throughout the book as the four girls, Meg, Beth, Jo, and Amy were so kind and often tried to do things that make others happy and don t expect anything in return. This characteristic is evident when Beth said I ll tell you what we ll do, let s each get her (their dear mother) something for Christmas, and not get anything for ourselves (6). In this scene, the four sisters, who get along beautifully, were sitting by the fire and when they notice how worn out their mother s slippers were. Initially, they didn t get any gifts or presents for Christmas since their father was away at war and they had to save money so they decided to use a little of their hard earned money to each buy something for themselves. But after seeing the condition of Marmee s slippers, they decide to use their own money to buy something nice for their mother. This quote shows utilitarianism because the Beth, Meg, Jo, and Amy all give up their own hard earned money to do something nice and considerate for someone else. Essentially, the four loving sisters thought of doing something to make someone happy and put themselves aside for a while. Another Victorian literature characteristic shown in this book is social classstructure. This is evident throughout the entire novel because Meg, Beth, Jo, Amy, and Marmee are all quite poor and face many different issues ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. How Did Historians Contribute To The Civil Rights Movement The Civil Rights Movement is often thought to begin with a tired Rosa Parks defiantly declining to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She paid the price by going to jail. Her refusal sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which civil rights historians have in the past credited with beginning the modern civil rights movement. Others credit the Supreme Court s landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education with beginning the movement. Regardless of the event used as the starting point of the moment, everyone can agree that it is an important period in history. In the forty five years since the modern civil rights movement, several historians have made significant contributions to the study of this era. These historians... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Whites were afraid to be labeled as racially moderate, and typically had to join the side of white supremacy for many reasons, among them the fact that class had previously aligned African Americans and poorer whites in a fight against poverty, Brown elevated racial status above class. Also, the decision made those in power in the South exert their disproportionate political power to keep the state government in their hands. Finally, some Southerners who normally would not care about race were swayed by the fact that the federal government was trying to impose a decision in education an arena typically reserved for state government. This made the fight one of states rights versus federal decree. Klarman s argument claims that this mobilization of white resistance in the South led to increased tension and violence against African Americans. For example, the bitter protests in Birmingham and Selma, along with the violence in the Black Belt areas of Lowndes County, where police dogs, fire hoses and lynching were used came as a result of this massive resistance movement. This violence, when media attention was paid to it, converted northern whites to the civil rights cause by exposing the true evils of the Jim Crow system. Civil rights leaders, such as Martin Luther King, played on that knowledge and specifically targeted cities where the most powerful backlash would occur, gaining them media air time and allowing the Northerners to ... • 15. The Aspects Of Gender Roles In The Return Of Martin Guerre Throughout history, our society has created gender norms that are followed consistently by members of communities. Though they differ from place to place, we recognize trends that seem almost prescribed to certain genders. Specifically, in the 1600s, men and women had explicit roles that were designated by people of stature. These expectations were followed loyally and people who failed to follow suit were shunned or sometimes even suffered seriously punishment including crude public beatings that were mot only pain inflicting but also status damaging (Rocke, Genderand Sexual Culture, 159). Looking deeper into the novel The Return of Martin Guerre, we identify from the start the expectations that are in place and how they play a role in the story. In comparison of Characters, taking into consideration the standard that had been set for men of this era, we notice that Pansette (Arnaud du Tilh) is an almost faultless example of what is expected for men and in contrast, Martin Guerre fails to meet these standards. First, some background on what was expected of men at this time. Natalie Zemon Davis describes expectancies of men through a number of instances in Martin Guerre s life. Men had large roles to fulfill both in their households and in the community. At home, the male was considered the lord of the household and was expected to provide for the family. • 17. The Conflict Between Military Life And Civilian Life For many decades now, many brave men and women have joined the military in order to serve the country and protect the rights that are entitled to the American populace. However, when they return back to the states, some soldiers are not able to the cope between the drastic differences between military life and civilian life; as a result, they can be homeless veterans living on the streets. The average citizens consider these veterans as just bums and consider them through the mindset of out of sight, out of mind . Meanwhile, municipalities are acting no better as they enact rules that discriminate against the homeless, including laws prohibiting public loitering, panhandling, and squatting. It appears that the public and the government clearly do not do much in terms of helping those that may need assistance, especially former soldiers that fought to protect them. While there are several factors that can affect servicemen into becoming homeless, the knowledge of the factors can be utilized appropriately by the citizens and officials to properly treat these heroes and return them to housed, civilized lives instead of just shunning them. Back in 2007, the National Law Center on Homelessnessand Poverty reported that roughly 3.5 million people are likely to be homeless in a given year and the National Coalition for the Homeless in 2009 states that between one fifth and one fourth of all homeless people are veterans. Stresemann used the money lent by the USA by reinvesting that money to build new factories, which meant that more Germans had jobs and that meant that Germans could be able to provide for their families. It also generated income for the country and more goods were produced and they could trade with other countries. The money lent by the USA was put to good use and Germany was becoming richer and more able to pay the debts. • 20. Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Uses and Abuses of Carbonate Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence Stratigraphy Sequence stratigraphy is a discipline studying the linkages within the chronostratigraphic framework of sequences which is bounded by unconformities and correlative conformities. It enables interpretation of sedimentary strata as products of relative sea level change. The sequence stratigraphy uses sub dividing surfaces to provide a framework to the interpretation of the depositional settings of the sedimentary section and uses the interpretation for further prediction of the extent and character of the component sedimentary facies. Sequence stratigraphy was originally designed for seismic sections, but the principles can be applied to outcrop, core, and well logs. It now provides a powerful method and is widely used in the petroleum exploration and prospects. The sequence is a relatively conformable succession of genetically related strata bounded at their upper surface and base by unconformities and their correlative conformities (Vail, et al., 1977). And it is composed of a succession of genetically linked deposition systems (systems tracts) and is interpreted to be deposited between eustatic fall inflection points (Posamentier, et al., 1988). The systems tracts are divided into Falling Stage Systems Tract/Forced Regressive Wedge Systems Tract (FSST/ FRWST), Lowstand Systems Tract (LST), Transgressive Systems Tract (TST) and Highstand Systems Tract (HST); and are bounded by surfaces which consist of ... • 22. Sociological Perspectives In Sociology Three major sociological approaches in the field of sociology are known as functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interactionist perspectives. The three sociological approaches are utilized to explain and enhance why racism is prominent in the United States. These viewpoints each discussed racism, but by using different terminology and specific focuses, each perspective is able to illustrate very unique and diverse concepts. As stated by Kendall (2015), Racism is a set of attitudes, beliefs, and practices that is used to justify the superior treatment of one racial or ethnic group and the inferior treatment of another racial or ethnic group (p. 284). As Kendall (2015) defined, dominant groups are racial or ethnic groups that have the greatest power and resources in a society. Subordinate groups are ones whose members, because of physical or cultural characteristics, are disadvantaged and subjected to unequal treatment and discrimination by the dominant group. (p. 283). In the society found in the United States, dominant groups incorporated white Americans while subordinate groups incorporated individuals such as immigrants, African Americans, and Asian Americans. The difference between all three perspectives begins with the context of how dominant and subordinate groups are used in the explanation of racism. Functionalist perspectives analyzed racism on a macro level in which the dynamics of the subordinate and dominate groups in the entirety of society is critiqued ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greater polarizability leads to greater dispersion forces. Thus, as molar mass increases, the number of electrons increase, which increases the polarizability of the molecule and hence the strength of the dispersion forces of the substance. 4. It included laws such as the Population Registration Act 1950, the Reservation of Separate Amenities Act 1953, and the Immorality Act 1950. These laws severely limited the rights of blacks. Partida Ms.Ponder English IV, 6 Pd. 28 February,2015 Music And Its Importance On The Human Brain Music affects people of all ages developmentally , intellectually and medically as well as it affects their social , personal lives. In other words, music affects the way in which we think , behave and feel. Music tends to have a positive effect on the transfer of learning. For example , learning to play an instrument enhances the ability to remember words through enlargement of the left cranial temporal regions of the brain. A study brought up by the Institute of Education at the University of London shows that musically trained participants remembered 17 percent more verbal information then those without musical training (Hallam 2012). Extensive active engagement with music induces cortical reorganization producing functional changes in how the brain handles information. When this is an occurrence in an early stage of development , usually in children and young adults, it may produce permanent changes in the way information is being processed into the brain. These changes display what exactly has been learned and how it has been learned. According to the article, Transfer of cognitive learning from one domain to another depends on the similarities between the processes involved, transfer can be near and far and it is stronger and more likely to occur if its near (Hallam 2012). The Neural Correlates Of Religious And Spiritual Development It is well established that adolescence marks a significant period for developmental changes physiologically (Erikson, 1968; Hall, 1904) and spiritually (Good Willoughby, 2008). Researchers have begun exploring the neural correlates of religious and spiritual development, establishing that there is surge in brain connections and maturation during adolescenceresulting in development of abstract thinking skills. At and around the transition to puberty, adolescents are able to perceive and consider multiple perspectives of their beliefs, especially in the light of reasoning, evidence, and rational thinking (Byrnes, 2003). Since this abstract thinking is targeted towards non concrete ideas and deductive reasoning, concepts of religion and spirituality are subjected to reason as well. Adolescents are better able to test hypothesis related to beliefs such as spirituality, therefore engaging in more spiritual exploration than their younger counterparts (Chapell Overton, 1998). Despite the unique developmental changes associated with puberty, available empirical evidence of spiritual conversion and commitment is still lacking in longitudinal evidence (Donelson, 1999). Self Worth Self worth, the regard a person feels for themselves (Harter 2012), is related to well being and positive mental health (Kling et al, 1999). Ever since its cultivation began around 1611, marijuana has puzzled people with its effects. Many question marijuana?s classification as a schedule one drug. A schedule one drug is one that has a high potential for abuse and no medicinal value. Some argue that the war on drugs, in particular marijuana, has cost taxpayers billions and is wasting funds that could be used on more important tasks such as improving transportation or education. As drug arrests rise, so do the populations in state prisons. This has become an immediate problem with no real solution. The legalization of possessing small amounts of marijuana can contribute positively to the medical and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1996, California passed Proposition 215, which legalized possession of marijuana for patients with a doctor?s recommendation who are suffering from AIDS, cancer, Glaucoma, and other illnesses. In September of 2000, federal Judge William Alsup of the Ninth Circuit Court in San Francisco ruled that the government could not punish doctors who recommend the benefits of marijuana to their patients. This verdict gave ill people a sign of hope that they will be able to take whatever medication necessary, even marijuana, to treat their sicknesses. Even though marijuana has many ways in which it may help an ill person, it is like other drugs in which it has side effects also.
