Aristotelianism
Aristotelianism, is happiness as the Quality of a Whole Lifetime. Aristotle claimed that happiness is
not a moment to moment experience of pleasurable things, but a way of characterizing how one s life
is being or, when it is over, has been conducted. Aristotle defines happiness as the highest, final good.
He assures us that life can be good without having everything we thought we wanted; in fact, some of
the things we think we want could be hindering us from attaining true happiness. Epicureanism is a
way of happiness as avoidance of pain. Epicureanism states that people of reason had free will and
could control their desire for pleasure, and therefore reduce the pain that always follows pleasure.
Complete happiness is a moderate amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joan of Arc was captured by the English. The Judges, who were charging her, wanted her to admit to
something that will discredit her belief, that she was given a mission by God to drive the English from
France. Joan refused to do this, until they threaten to burn her at the stake. Eventually, she broke and
signed the confession, but later on she discovers she made a mistake, and wants to take back her
confession. Joan, then, was sent to burn by the stake. Joan realized that she had a happy life and that
God will take care of her after death. This is a pretty good example of realizing happiness is the

Carlotta Character Traits
Characterization:
Christine This adaptation portrays Christine as ditzy, but not stupid. She has no idea that Raoul has
fallen in love with her and sees him only as a friend. She is pretty, naive, and nice (mostly, however,
very protective over her solos) which makes for a bad combination. She doesn t fully understand the
power she holds over the other characters. For example, if she had told Raoul to go away, he probably
would have. She really moves the story forward as it revolves around her actions and reactions to
events. Her overall motivation consists of furthering her singing career and finding love with someone
who allows her to have her freedom. The other characters like her and she has no problems connecting
with those around her, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It draws the audience in through more moving songs, such as Think of Me. The dialogue has an
overarching modern quality to it, as opposed to the more formal version in the stage and movie
adaptations. The main trio (Phantom, Christine, and Raoul) talk about going to Red Robin, as one
example. They also throw in modern allusions to literature and film (singing machine from Shrek), as
well as Christine using her phone during the roof scene. These changes make it easier for the audience
to connect and find humor within the story. Similar speech patterns follow the characters throughout
the story. Phantom commands and bosses the other characters, which fits his character profile within
the One Act. Raoul has a more scattered and foolish mind. Carlotta uses the most unfamiliar words,
such as ingenue, which denoted a young female character who has endearing innocence or naivety
(Christine). This also fits with her characterization as she has the most experience of the characters in
the world of theater and

Mark s Great Commission Research Paper
Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as well as
the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of
Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a
commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is
the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s
gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world.
On the other hand, Mark s gospel focuses on preaching, good news, and reaching every creature. The
differences discovered between the two gospels are not contradictory, but rather, they complement
each other and give added insight to the church. George Peters maps out Mark s Gospel in three
categories
Mark s Methodology of Mission
Method of Mission Preaching
The Missions Focus The World
The Message of Mission The Gospel of Jesus Christ
For Mark, preaching the good news of Jesus Christ to the world is priority in his commission. Through
biblical study, it is quite clear that preaching is God s method of missions. There is no scriptural

Mark s proclamation for the Gospel was, Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the
dead (1Cor 15:3 5). Furthermore there are two important factors of the gospel message that must be
considered. First, the Gospel message is centered on Christ. Because of the influx of many false
teachers and preachers who are in the world and church today it is imperative that the true and living
Christ be preached correctly and effectively. Secondly, the gospel of Christ should not be altered to fit
individual s personal desires; however, it the gospel is altered then the gospel is no longer a true

Plan largely benefitted the northern states rather than the southern ones. The majority of the southern
states completely paid off their war debt. The northern states on the other hand were nowhere close to
reaching this goal. Hamilton s plan put in place that the southern states would help the northern states
pay their debts. Obviously, the southern states were completely opposed to this, while the northern
states full heartedly agreed with it. States, such as Virginia, would gain nothing from having a central
bank. The groups that would benefit the most from Hamilton s Plan were merchants, leading

Effect of Liquidity and Capital Structure on Financial Performance: Evidence from banking Sector.
Abstract
This research is titled as the impact of liquidity and capital structure on the financial performance of
Cement sector firm. Capital structure and liquidity both play a vital role in growth and profitability of
the firm. The data of fifteen cement sector firms were randomly analyzed, for the period of 2008 to
2014. The statistical approaches i.e. correlation, fixed effect, random effect and hausman tests were
applied. The results indicated that all capital structure variables, i.e. Debt to equity, debt ratio, funded
capital ratio and Funded debt ratio has negative relationship with firm financial performance of these
selected cement sector firms. The results also indicated that liquidity proxies, i.e. quick ratio and
current ratio have significant positive impact on the financial performance of these cement sector
firms. On the bases of the findings of this study it is suggested that these firm s manager should take
care of its capital structure proxies as it negatively impacting its financial performance. On the bases
of findings, it is also advised that these managers should further improve the mechanism of liquidity.

Advantages Of A Feather Pillow
Choosing the most comfortable feather pillow
Getting a good night s sleep is an important part of maintaining not only your physical health, but also
your mental health. Experts have established that people who sleep inadequately have a weaker
immune system than those who have adequate sleep. Hence getting a good night s sleep becomes
important. Having a pillow that allows you to rest your head in comfort will allow you to sleep
adequately and comfortably. For those seeking a fluffy, soft pillow filled with natural materials, a
feather pillow fits these requirements in full. Considering the vast majority of feather pillow types and
manufactures, it gives one a headache just to select a pillow good enough to guarantee a good night s
sleep. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Down
Pillows come stuffed with either feathers or down, or a mixture of the two. Down is the cotton like
insulation underneath the hard feathers that keeps a bird cozy, comfy and warm. These feathers are
very soft and fluffy, as compared to the bird s outer feathers which are harder with sharp quills. The
best feather pillows hence contain 100%. Generally, pure down pillows are of higher quality and
comfort than other feather pillows and tend to stay comfy longer. Higher quality pillows come with a
warranty from the manufacturer, so you ll give a peace of your mind (and even get a replacement!) if
your pillow doesn t function well enough.
The Fluff Factor and pillow Fluffiness
How fluffy a pillow is depends on the Fill Power of the pillow. According to the Down Feather
Company Fill power tells us the amount of space that an ounce of the down will fill in cubic inches
inside the pillow. A higher fill power indicates that the pillow contains down from a more mature bird.
This down is larger than that from a younger bird. Larger down feathers mean more loft or height to
the pillow.
Typically :
 Higher fill power = Greater fluffiness
 Higher fill power= Greater

Thomas Jefferson s Macaronni Machine
I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past. Thomas Jefferson. Thomas Jefferson
was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Thomas Jefferson was born on 13 April 1743, in
Shadwell, Virginia. Jefferson s father grew up in a modern family and was raised to be a farmer. His
mother was more on the wealthy side, while his mother was on the complete opposite side being
raised in a wealthy family, in friendship with the King Of England. Jefferson s father passed away in

He popularized macaroni and cheese in the USA! In a letter to Jefferson, William Short, his secretary,
wrote that he had kept a mould for making maccaroni in Naples and had sent it to his mentor in Paris.
However, it s most likely that the macaroni machine didn t reach France until after Jefferson had left.
In the words of Jefferson, this is how much he loved his macaronni machine: The best maccaroni in
Italy is made with a particular sort of flour called Semola, in Naples: but in almost every shop a
different sort of flour is commonly used; for, provided the flour be of a good quality, and not ground
extremely fine, it will always do very well. A paste is made with flour, water and less yeast than is
used for making bread. This paste is then put, by little at a time, viz. about 5. or 6. lb. each time into a
round iron box ABC, the under part of which is perforated with holes, through which the paste, when
pressed by the screw DEF, comes out, and forms the Maccaroni g.g.g. which, when sufficiently long,
are cut and spread to dry. The screw is turned by a lever inserted into the hole K, of which there are 4.
or 6. It is evident that on turning the screw one way, the cylindrical part F. which fits the iron box or
mortar perfectly well, must press upon the paste and must force it out of the holes. LLM. is a strong
wooden frame, properly fastened to the wall, floor and cieling of the room. N.O. is a figure, on a
larger scale, of some of the holes in the iron plate, where all the black is solid, and the rest open. The

Analysis Of The Listen By Mary Mahlink By Dahl
Dahl expresses in the first part of the story that there is tranquility while Mary Maloney was waiting
for her husband to come home from work. Mary tries to converse and is encountered with short ,blunt
answers that comes off as tension, we can suspect this when her husband is drinking his whiskey and
there s dead silence in the room. Ice cubes are clanking against the glass which symbolizes coldness
and isolation. She wasn t really watching him, but she knew what he had done because she heard the
ice cubes falling back against the bottom of the empty glass when he lowered his arm. He paused a
moment, leaning forward in the chair, then he got up and went slowly over to fetch himself another.
Mary s is seen as the caretaker of the household and in the story that is reversed when her husband is
trying to tell her something important. Tired darling . Yes , I m tired . This statement represent a dry
and distance tone. Listen, he said. I ve got something to tell you . This can state the anitionpation the
author is trying to make us feel when reading the story. He had now become absolutely motionless,
and he kept his head down so that the light from the lamp beside him fell across the upper part of his
face, leaving the chin and mouth in shadow . This symbolizes the growing darkness and
foreshadowing of intensity that is coming up next in the story between her and her husband that opens
up Mary s insanity. This allows us to see the transition of Mary s once innocent

A Lesson Plan For A Teacher
Every teacher is responsible for planning what will be taught to their students every week. Each day
the students will have certain activities and work that all comes together under the same category. This
is what is called lesson plans, and they are a very important part of keeping the class together and also
help the teacher stay organized. There are many different ways in which one can set up their lesson
plans, but it is very important to have them done the correct way rather than the wrong way to get the
full benefit from them. I was able to find two different lesson plans that represent the correct way and
also the wrong way. The correct one I was able to find on reading.org and the other one I found on
esltreasures.com. Each one was created for the beneficial knowledge of the student, however they are
very different and only one will help them obtain that knowledge. The first lesson plan that I found on
esltreasures.com was a very simple lesson plan, which appears to be more of an agenda with different
times with each activity. The lesson is supposed to be directed for a class of junior beginners and is
meant to cover a grammar lesson along with spelling and vocabulary. However everything is done in
unrealistic time frames. All the activities are between 5 to 20 minutes each. Since the subject being
taught is grammar and vocabulary, there is an assignment for a spelling game, but it is only for 10
minutes. There is also a grammar point explanation that is only 2 3

problem to us at CHS because us girls like to wear ripped jeans without leggings.
The school has many rules that the principal has come up with such as tardies and not leaving campus

code rule. For example , two weeks into school I see variety of girls out of dress code and I noticed
that nobody was telling them something , so the next day I decide to wear my second favorite ripped
jeans to school since I thought to myself that nobody will say something to me.Right after the bell had

The Shawshank Redemption And The Marriage Of Figaro
What does one imagine when viewing a comic opera? A ornamented opera house? Patrons dressed in
black tie apparel? However, would one imagine a comic opera playing in a maximum security prison?
Would uneducated prisoners appreciate the music? In The Shawshank Redemption both of these
events occurred. In The Shawshank Redemption, Andy Dufresne plays an duet from Mozart s comic
opera, The Marriage to Figaro, as its Enlightened ideals represent Andy s prison experience and its
Classical characteristics evoke a sense of hope in the repressed prison. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s
The Marriage of Figaro reflects the social and musical influence of the Classical period. Socially, The
Marriage of Figaro reflects the ideals of the Enlightenment. The Enlightenment was was a period that
saw the institutions of Europe religious, political, social, educational, industrial, financial and artistic
slowly but inexorably lower their focus from the ruling aristocratic and clerical classes to a new class
of people. For want of a better term, we call this new and rising class of people the middle class
(Greenberg Opera Buffa ). The Enlightenment placed an emphasis on the natural man or the common
man, not just the aristocratic class (Kerman and Tomlinson Listen 153). Consequently, Mozart focused
his comic operas on lower to middle class protagonists like the servants Figaro and Susanna whose
marital bliss is delayed by nobles ( Synopsis: Le Nozze di Figaro The Metropolitan Opera). Another

The Problems Involving Water Management And Resources
There are various issues associated with water in South Western United States and specifically
California that aiming to one big issue is really restrictive. For this paper water structures and
infrastructure were selected as a focus point, however it must be stated that it there s interconnection
among other issues such as environment, politics, history and more. Studying the past it is easy to see
how water availability made population explode in an area such as Southern California, where savvy
marketing and great politics made it happen. Particularly, for Los Angeles Marc Reisner s Cadillac
Desert does a great job at understanding and identifying the politics and key figures in getting water to
Los Angeles for the purposes of public narrative. Great hydrologic structure were created using both
man power and water politics. There a connections between water, politics, environment, and
geography when analyzing what the biggest problems involving water management and resources. We
must think of water as both a socio political issue and a natural resource, whose fate is molded by the
understanding of its connectivity to itself, the environment, man made structures, geography, and
society. The classes taken in this program have taught us ideals that in order to become a great water

course of the last 23 years. Contrary to the popular belief capital regulations have been considered the
biggest underlying factor of the subprime crisis owing to securitization, the shadow banking system
and the flexibility given to banks in risk assessment. The recent Basel III norms though aim to

The Basel Capital Accord (Basel I) was adopted in 1988, and had two main objectives; * Strengthen
the soundness and the stability of the international banking system minimum capital adequacy ratio by
assessing the credit risk of the banks * Create a level playing field among international banks Banks
from different countries competing for the same loans would have to set aside roughly the same
amount of capital on the loans
Fallout of Basel I and emergence of Basel II
Basel I set the platform for maintaining the adequate capital cushion required by the banks in the event
of a default or grim situations. However the adequate capital (Tier I amp; Tier II) to be maintained was
solely based on the credit risk (on balance sheet, trading off balance sheet, non trading balance sheet)
assessment which was divided into 4 categories of Government Exposures with OECD countries 0%,
OECD banks and non OECD governments 20%, Mortgages 50%, Other Exposures, retail and
wholesale(SMEs) 100%
Though the main aim of formulating the Basel Norms was to ensure the optimal capital cushion to be
maintained required in the event of a crisis, the very introduction of Basel Accord, increased the gap
between economical and risk based capital and gave rise to regulatory capital arbitrage (RCB). The
drawback that a loan to a safe industrial country and that to a volatile developing country

The problems of Intellectual Property Rights In China
Abstract After Deng Xiaoping s reform and opening up policy in 1978, China recorded an annual
average growth rate of 9.67 percent in China. This is approximately three times higher than the
average annual growth rate of global economy which is 3.3% within the same period. Past 29 years,
due to rapid growth rate, China ranked the 2nd in trade volume and size of economy. However, many
side effects are appeared due to the rapid economic growth. This study will measure what is the
current state of the world s counterfeit goods market, why people violate the IPR protection and
produce counterfeit goods, what is the problem of IPR law enforcements and how violating law and
producing counterfeit goods in China influence the world.
Introduction Both economically and socially, influence of China is substantial. Economic and social
status of China is firm that it can not be oversighted. However, intellectual property rights have been
rising issues in China. First step to solve the problem is realize there is one. It is critical to recognize
which elements are violating IPR. Basic systematic error of IPR and counterfeit culture in China are

The Themes Of Marvel Comics And DC Comics
Marvel Comics and DC Comics were both founded in the 1930 s as, naturally, comic book publishers.
Today they form 70% of the comic book market. By 2016, that market as a whole had hit a record
high of $1.085B in both physical and digital comic book sales (Johnston, 2016) (Comichron, 2016).
Some of the highest selling comic series currently in print have strong NCC themes. These include DC
s Batman and Marvel s The Punisher series.
Batman or Bruce Wayne, is a bat themed vigilante that carries out what he considers to be justice
within the corrupt, crime infested Gotham City. (Halevy and Cooper, 2016) (DC Comics, 2017). Bruce
Wayne is the billionaire owner of Wayne Enterprises and inherited his wealth and desire to fight crime
after witnessing his parents being mugged and then murdered. DC describes him as both a leader and
a hero. (DC Comics, 2017). In the typical Batman comic however, Batman is being hunted by the
police, mostly due to his violent solutions to crime. [He] distrusts the police and willingly breaks the
law in order to enforce his own values of what he considers justice. An interesting example occurs in
the very first Batman comic: Batman No.1 1940, in which Batman executes a mental patient by
hanging him from his Batplane. Using a toxic serum, an evil scientist had mutated the mental patient
into a very strong, enraged monster, locked him in a truck, and was planning to use him to rob a bank.
Batman kills the truck driver with the Batplane s mounted machine gun, then makes a noose with his
Batrope, lowers it down, and hangs the monster while he s attempting to crawl out of the truck
wreckage. The monster s corpse is casually dragged along behind the Batplane, and Batman remarks,
He s probably better off this way. (Cracked, 2012). Interestingly enough, Batman had created and used
an antidote to this serum just a few pages earlier, but did not attempt, or even think to use the antidote
on the monster. Despite this, Batman is considered a superhero and is often compared to Superman,
who by stark contrast, is willing to fight alongside the law, and has faith in the American criminal
justice system. (Halevy and Cooper, 2016)
Somewhat similar to Batman is the Punisher. Also known as

The title of the book I read is Holes, which was written by Louis Sachar. This classic is taken place
not far back in time, and is mostly placed at Camp Green Lake. Camp Green Lake is a detention camp
for troubled boys. It used to have a beautiful lake long ago, but after years and years the lake and the
town dried up. In the book s present time its dry land is used to teach the young men to clean up their
act. They must dig holes constantly with a specific diameter and depth. The heat is roaring and the
dangerous animals of the desert are mentioned. Stanley Yelnats is the main character who is from a
poor family. His family has very bad luck... they believe it s a curse from his great great grandfather.
This young innocent guy is still in his teen years. In the story Stanley is wrongly accused of stealing a
pair of shoes; he then went to court. He was lucky enough to have a choice to either go to jail for a
short period of time or to go to Camp Green Lake. Stanley thought the camp would be fun because he
has never been to one. When Stanley arrives at the camp he kind of feels intimidated because of all the
rough boys there. After accepting each other s differences they become friends then he meets Zero (his
actual name in the story is Hector.) That s what they call him because he doesn t know how to read
and he barely says anything. Yelnats feels bad about this, so with his free time he teaches Zero how to
read little by little. Soon after becoming close friends

Consultation Proposal
This report is an IT consultant for a small advertising company called MilleniAds. In this consultation
I will go over the best hardware, software, networking and information security options for the
company. MilleniAds consists of 10 employees, each employees will need a laptop.
Hardware Requirements
Since the employees will be traveling I would recommend the Dell Latitude tablet/laptop, which offers
an Intel Core i5 and Intel Core i7 processor, Pentium DC with the 128 SSD and 4GB ram apx. $700,
Intel Core i3 with the 128 SSD and 4GB ram apx. $900 to the Intel Core i5 with the 256 SSD and

Dropbox Business for a year is $20.00 a month / $240.00 a year. This will allow each member of your
team to get enough space to back up important information no matter the file size and allows members
to edit a presentation with teammates without emailing files back and forth. As for purchasable
software, there s the Microsoft Suite which includes, Outlook, Word, Power Point, One Note, Access,
and Publisher. This will cost $99.99 a year. The company should also purchase Adobe Photoshop and
Illustrator for the design team. For the sales team, CEO, designers, and financial team I would
recommend purchasing Office 365 Business.
Networking Requirements Since MelleniAds is a traveling graphic design company they would need
remote access, and user access but also secure means to access their systems. Bases on the needs of
MelleniAds, as well as the hardware/software requirements that I have looked at so far, I recommend a
client/server network setup. This would allow the companies data and resources to be kept in a central
location, so the administrators can keep a need to know for their employees and can form groups and
assign permissions. Client/Server networks also allow for devices/users to be easily removed when
they are not needed anymore.
When considering the Network Type I recommend a mix of both wired for the printers and computers
that will stay per mentally at the office, and

Emergency Surgery Is Caused By Weak Blood Vessels That...
Brain aneurysms are caused by weak blood vessels that balloon and fill with blood which can fatally
rupture. Once an aneurysm has ruptured, emergency surgery is needed to prevent the patient from
suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a fatal type of stroke. The insertion of a detachable embolic coil
can prevent rupturing of aneurysms and the need for emergency surgery. A technical study was
conducted which used an experimental model constructed in the necks of swine to simulate a specific
type of brain aneurysm (1). A combination of stents and Guglielmi Detachable Coils were then
inserted to inhibit the fatal bleeding into the brain. This research concluded that the Guglielmi
Detachable embolic coil is a high impact device because it can ... Show more content on

Once this wire to correctly inserted within the aneurysm, a 1 mA current is exerted on the delivery
wire. The current is meant to dissolve the steel delivery wire close to the platinum coil. This process is
done by electrolysis so simultaneously the positively charged platinum will attract the negatively
charged red and white blood cells, and platelets which causes intra aneurysmal thrombosis. If
thrombosis does not happen immediately, coils also most likely enforce critical protection against re
hemorrhage by reducing blood pulsations inside the aneurysm and sealing the weak portion of the
blood vessel s wall. Eventually thrombus will build within the aneurysm and the aneurysm is excluded
from the parent blood vessel by a layer of connective tissue. This has been successfully demonstrated
in experimental dog models that were effective in producing thrombosis of the aneurysm and suggest
that the design is useful in the endovascular treatment of aneurysms (2). Once this electrolysis process
has occurred, the delivery wire can be taken out, leaving the the coil in the proper position. Now an
additional coil can be inserted into the aneurysm and this process can be repeated until the aneurysm is
densely filled with the coils to prevent it from rupturing. The coils are constructed from platinum alloy
wire that is made into the primary coil first, and then formed

Starting a Spa Business in Singapore
Starting a Spa Business in Singapore
Despite the economic crisis, health and wellness sector in Singapore has always recorded a steady
growth starting from S$140 million a year. The factor causing the high amount of revenue is due to
high tourist arrivals and the increase in wealth of individuals. People are more willing to part with
their money in return for exotic treatments and multiple treatment packages. There has also been a
63% increase in the number of spas since 2003. Due to the potential gains, big players and new
companies are setting up shop in Singapore.
The Massage Establishment Act requires a Massage Establishment (ME) License to allow the
company to operate its massage, foot reflexology services, spa baths, manicure and similar treatments.
The ME License is separated into 2 categories, Category I and Category II. Category I license is more
popular among the spa business as licensees can enjoy serving alcohol, admitting customers regardless

A Dream For A World Without Food Labels Essay
A Dream for a World Without Food Labels In his essay My Dream Food Label, Mark Bittman makes
the case that current food labels, while providing the consumer with ample information, do not
indicate whether or not the food contained is really beneficial . Bittman argues that labels should
additionally involve clear graphics, such as a traffic light indicating the healthiness of the food, as well
as criteria such as hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, etc. These criteria would ideally also include the
production of the food, particularly the welfare of the workers and animals involved, and perhaps even
the carbon footprint of the food. Bittman ultimately uses such advocacy for food label reform to
support his own proposed food label design, equipped with a 15 point color coded scale ranking the
food according to its nutrition, as it currently exists, foodiness , or how close the food is to real food ,
and welfare , or the overall treatment of the workers, animals, and environment. While his arguments
for food labels are well intentioned, attempting to address serious issues, Bitman s supposed solutions
are highly flawed. Bittman s call for greater awareness, responsibility, and sustainability of the welfare
involved with the food industry is admirable. The widespread access to food from all over the world
has certainly created great ambiguity around food sources. As a result, food production and transport
methods can evade public awareness, individuals

Tobacco Essay
THIS IS A PAPER REGARDING THE TOBACCO INDUSTRY (3 PAGES). The Killing Business?
This paper is about the tobacco industry. Some would find that the label killing business is very
appropriate. Others would say that that name is misleading and inaccurate. Biased, I am not. So we
will look at the issue in regards to the industry from both consumer and producer points of perspective
with fairness and equality in reach. With an open mind now, let s peer closer at the aftermath tobacco
has left us standing in. Something has to get a non tobacco user to try his/her first cigarette, cigar,

But lowering the tar also meant lowering the nicotine because this method affected both aspects. So
the industry generated a new breed of tobacco plants. The nicotine levels of the new flue cured, Y 1,
and rustica tobacco plants were 6% of the plant s body weight. Before, tobacco only had 2% 3.5%
nicotine. Chewing tobacco and snuff products have always contained fiberglass in them. These flecks
of glass pierced gums and lips to allow nicotine to flow into the pores making it more addictive. The
industry has since made the fiberglass obsolete and replaced it with actual nicotine crystals. These
crystals penetrate the gums and dissolve inside of your jaw. Basically, consumers are now getting
approximately double the nicotine in smoking and smokeless tobacco than had previously. The
government has passed laws that prevent youth from purchasing tobacco goods. The legal age for
acquirement of tobacco is 18. Does that in itself ward away potential teen tobacco users? To a certain
degree, it works very effectively. Consumers under the legal age have no way around this law.
However, there are some marketers that sell to underage tobacco users. But the industry is hardly to
blame for that. The President devised a plan to raise prices of tobacco over the next four years in an
attempt to discourage tobacco consumers. Realistically, no proposition such as that could ever be more
ignorant and bemused. This scheme only gives rise to the industry. More profit for the tobacco unit

A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
Satire has the ability to point out societal inadequacy and ridicule political policies in a way that is
humorous in its absurdity while masking its true intent. In A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, the
author s use of exaggeration and irony to draw attention to the meaningless lives of the Irish people to
English rule not only gives his work a wider audience but also serves as a furtherment of Swift s
typical derisiveness. A Modest Proposal comments on the harm caused by the Declaratory Act of
1720, an act that allowed Great Britain s parliament to legislate over Ireland with no input from the
Irish House of Lords, leaving Ireland in severe economic distress. Swift contrasts his calm yet harsh
criticism of English politics and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In keeping with this style, Swift assured that the reader would look deeper into his work than the
surface meaning. While lacing his work with an old, familiar style Swift injected his own unique flair
in his pamphlet as well. In A Modest Proposal paragraphs frequently start with sympathetic, almost
dreamlike, idealizations and end, metaphorically, with a knife to the gut. Swift entices the reader with
his sympathetic voice then delivers such biting wit the reader is stunned and taken aback. Another
trick used by Swift is a redirection technique. Major points are intentionally separated to redirect
readers to Swift s important views and enforce his ideas. In A Modest Proposal Swift uses the end of
the pamphlet to restate all previous notions. This gives the reader not only a refresher but another
chance to analyze the true meaning. A Modest Proposal is obviously a satiric work, but it s Swift s use
of satire that makes his work effective, particularly his combination of political and societal satire
leaving none of the intended audience unscathed. Swift agrees with the bourgeoisie class so
vehemently that it becomes noticeably sarcastic. He maintains the calm demeanor of the narrator
making the faked emotions cold and insincere. Swift states, ... that horrid practice of women
murdering their bastard children, alas, too frequent among us, sacrificing the poor innocent babes,
...which would move tears and pity in

Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society
The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the construction of high speed
trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic congestion. First, delays at airports are costly. Larry
Johnson, director of the Center for transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratory near
Chicago, calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each year in delays at O Hare
airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airlines, delays cost
five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and labor cost, for the ailing airline industry.
According to the FAA, relieving airport congestion will cost one hundred and seventeen billion over
the next decade (Mobey 14). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay
said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4).
High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on
the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). The usual
goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet.
p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to
question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost
that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit.
However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and
increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point congestion (the negative externality) begins
(Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to
reduce congestion in our surface and air transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed
trains would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways.
Those who argue against high speed trains cite their

How Did The Treaty Of Versailles Punish Germany
The Treaty of Versailles is a peace treaty, where it basically punishes Germany. It makes them
powerless to a point that they cannot be able to create another war. This treaty was way too harsh on
the Germans. It is a fact that they were not the only ones fighting in the war, and they should not be
the only one, who should be punished. Everyone must take responsibilities for their drastic decisions.
All of the major countries had a role in this war, not only Germany. The Germans were stripped down
of everything they had. It left Germans helplessly and made to live in poverty. In order to pay off the
damages that were made, they were treated like slaves. Instead of making peace with Germany, the

The Debate Over Time To Reduce The Budget Deficit
We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is
increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, define deficit as
spending that exceed revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over spending
from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had a budget
deficit almost every year between 1970 and 1997, but tax cut and more spending on defense by
President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is from reducing of
productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when the government had some
budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483)
and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term
Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and
increase spending again by putting more money into private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore,
government goes further with the budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower tax rate
will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance.
First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring different
amounts of revenue from the previous year if the tax rate falls below a previous percentage. For
example, Ramesh Ponnuru said that Mr. Trump s plan will

This American Life Essay Sample
After listening to This American Life by Ira Glass, I can identify some reasons how it relates to our
Public Speaking class. The podcast is relevant to our coursework because it contains a lot of the topics
that we discussed in our textbook. I think that it is relevant to us as Public Speaking students because
it is full of different ideas and dialect. I believe that this podcast was assigned for us to listen to
because it contains many of the things that are discussed by our textbook. For example, when Donald
Trump is talking about polls he cites his source verbally by saying it was from the Center of Security
Policy (Glass, 15). Here, Donald Trump verbally signals his source and avoids plagiarism, which is
defined as presenting another ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example that stuck out to me that was something we discussed in class and was in our
textbook was listening. When Tom Emmer is talking at his town hall and Sue keeps saying that he
wasn t listening to her Tom Emmer says to Zoe Chace that he felt like the people at the town hall said
he was telling them and that he wasn t listening (Glass, 5). How I think this relates to the book is in
Chapter 3 the book talks about listening. The book discusses things like being an active listener, as
well as, critical and comprehensive listening. I think that both Sue and Tom Emmer were not being
very good active listeners and were not listening critically or comprehensively. Sue wasn t listening to
the idea the Tom had that they could not just keep Somali Muslims out of St. Cloud so she wasn t
listening to understand the message of the speaker and she also was not listening to evaluate a
message for purposes of accepting or rejecting it (Lucas, 49) (Glass, 5). Tom was also not being a
good active listener because he got stuck on the first point that Sue was saying and did not listener to
the rest of the things that she had to say. Granted, Sue wasn t making a very reasonable point by trying
to state that people couldn t legally come to America (Glass,

Examples Of Vengeance In The Odyssey
Most of us have heard of the incredible tale of Odysseus and his 10 year long journey home after the
Trojan War. Throughout The Odyssey, we see a variety of very important themes, such as hospitality,
perseverance, and intelligence. However, there is one theme that stands out among the others, and it is
that of vengeance, because it acts as the basis for the adventure. There are numerous indications that
vengeance is on its way, including Penelope s dream, ... the eagle and the geese, which foretells
Odysseus return and his vengeance..., (Hughes). In The Odyssey, vengeance is sought by Odysseus
because the suitors want to marry his wife, by Helios because Odysseus crew ate his cattle, and by
Poseidon because Odysseus blinded the Cyclops, Poseidon s son. The first act example of someone
seeking vengeance is Odysseus because of the suitors who want to marry his wife. Odysseus...

against them and proceeds to massacre the suitors who had come to court his wife. Odysseus kills ...

The crew is convinced to do so by a shipmate named Eurylochos. My friends, he [Eurylochos] said,
you are in a bad way... the most pitiable death of all is to starve. Come along let us drive off the best of
these cattle... I choose rather to die once with a mouthful of salt than to be slowly squeezed out in a
desert island, (Homer 144, 145). In retaliation, Helios asks Zeus to destroy their ship. He says, Father
Zeus, and all ye gods that live forever! Punish those men of Odysseus Laertiades! (145). Zeus replies,
I will soon strike the ship with a thunderbolt, and smash it into smithereens in the middle of the sea!
(145). In this case, I believe the vengeance sought is justified because the crew was warned many
times and were aware of the consequences, yet they chose to ignore Odysseus

Women Leaving Her Husband Analysis
Butler explains to her readers the ample reasons why wives of the medieval time period would decide
to leave their husbands. In fact, on page 338 of her article, Butler writes, The goal of this paper is to
provide a more comprehensive perspective of husband desertion, including the risks involved in
deserting one s husband, the wife s motivations, and the logistics of desertion (Butler 338). She begins
her article with some background information in hopes to enlighten her readers that at this point in
history, men had all the power in any marriage. Following the brief history of the misogyny found in
medieval marriages, Butler uses the rest of her article to explain to her readers the trials and
tribulations these wives had to go through, the risk of others knowing she wanted to leave, and what
made the wives want to leave at all. Butler first chooses to explain what the risks were when a wife
left her husband during the medieval era. Due to the misogyny found in medieval marriages, if a
woman decided to leave her husband, she had to be well aware of the consequences that would follow.
For instance, Butler points out to her audience that if a woman decided to leave her husband, then
must live with the label of adulteress. This label guarantees that this woman would never be able to
claim any inheritance in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dugan writes, Analyzing representations of scent as a dramatic trope within two distinct theatrical
atmospheres late medieval civic drama and early modern professional theaters I argue that olfaction

Edgar Degas Research Paper Outline
Hilaire German Edgar Degas was born in Paris, France on July 19, 1834. He was the son of Auguste
de Gas, a banker, and Celestine Musson de Gas, an American from New Orleans. Edgar was the oldest
of the five children Auguste and Celestine had. Their family was members of the middle class,
however, for many years their family spelled their name de Gas which thanks to the preposition de
suggested that their family was from a land owning aristocratic background. It wasn t until 1870 that
Edgar changed his name to the less aristocratic sounding Degas.
You could say that Edgar Degas was born with artistic blood running through his veins after all his
mother, Celestine, was an amateur opera singer and his father, Auguste, would arrange for

Death Investigation Research Paper
The Death Investigations When people hear the word forensics it evokes a mindful of graphic, vibrant
images that bring about death and crime. It s a trigger word that reminds people of gore, autopsies,
DNA, death investigations, and bullet holes. This word means so much more than just those few
examples of what forensics hold. Forensics is such a broad term it is scientific tests or techniques used
in connection with the detection of a crime , so with that given definition forensics could mean many
different things. You could go from someone who works as the forensic computer technician who can
hack into a sexual predator s hard drive in the matter of seconds to a forensic anthropologist who
studies bones in a legal case. All though there ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This truth forms an essential link between the enforcement of law and protection of the public in the
administration of justice. Forensic pathology is clearly a crucial role in the justice system. You have to
be a little weird and crazy to have a passion for the kind of work that the coroners and M.E. go
through on an everyday basis. They use past knowledge to make decisions on how death occurred and
they come across many different postmortem changes in dead bodies. Every field is important in
forensics, but pathology advocates for truth and justice to dead

Perseverance in Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
Epictetus once wrote, First say what you would be; and then do what you have to do. This aphorism of
self discovery and obligation clearly describes Robert Frost s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy
Evening. In the course of the poem, Frost s speaker is confronted with two choices: he can either
forget his problems or he can follow through with his responsibilities and make the most of life. It is
through Frost s remarkable presentation of the speaker s thoughts that the reader may see how difficult
this decision can be. Through powerful elements, such as alliteration, rhythm, and imagery, Frost
stresses the importance of perseverence and facing one s fears and ... Show more content on

Through clever and distant alliteration, Frost displays the importance of deciding whether to remain
strong and press forward or to cowardly give up.
Despite its possibly being the more difficult path, Frost signifies the essence of perseverence through
rhythm. Throughout the poem, Frost employs a repetitive, trance like rhythm to compliment the
speaker s struggle to fight off reality and remain in his carefree world. Furthermore, Jhan Hochman
explains it as an ingenious form of interlocking rhyme: the third unrhymed line of the first three
stanzas provokes the subsequent stanza s rhymed sound (Hochman 4). Frost s use of rhythm is an
eloquent and clever element that expresses the weak and weary state of the speaker in his moment of a
life changing decision. Yet, in the last stanza frost brings his flowing lines to an abrupt halt with But I
have promises to keep (Frost 13). With this line, Frost not only shifts the meter of the poem, but also
signifies the speaker s realization that he cannot give up or quit because of the life commitments he
has made. Frost powerfully uses the rhythm in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening to emphasize
the importance of choosing the path of life and all of its responsibilities instead of the easy way out.
With imagery, Frost again stresses the significance of persevering over one s fears. The

Analysis Of The Poem Adrienne Rich
Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties. Most
just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate,
according to an article published in 1973 by the National Center for Health Statistics , was at twenty
five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most
husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a costly
venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet
domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the
resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism to
paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted, in a
colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse.
The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably
weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted. With bright colors in the first stanza, Bright topaz
denizens of a world of green, (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that includes brown,
blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that a true Topaz is
colorless. Denizens means a place or places so the author s meaning is, in a sense

  • 2. Aristotelianism Aristotelianism, is happiness as the Quality of a Whole Lifetime. Aristotle claimed that happiness is not a moment to moment experience of pleasurable things, but a way of characterizing how one s life is being or, when it is over, has been conducted. Aristotle defines happiness as the highest, final good. He assures us that life can be good without having everything we thought we wanted; in fact, some of the things we think we want could be hindering us from attaining true happiness. Epicureanism is a way of happiness as avoidance of pain. Epicureanism states that people of reason had free will and could control their desire for pleasure, and therefore reduce the pain that always follows pleasure. She has no idea that Raoul has fallen in love with her and sees him only as a friend. She is pretty, naive, and nice (mostly, however, very protective over her solos) which makes for a bad combination. She doesn t fully understand the power she holds over the other characters. For example, if she had told Raoul to go away, he probably would have. She really moves the story forward as it revolves around her actions and reactions to events. Her overall motivation consists of furthering her singing career and finding love with someone who allows her to have her freedom. It draws the audience in through more moving songs, such as Think of Me. The dialogue has an overarching modern quality to it, as opposed to the more formal version in the stage and movie adaptations. The main trio (Phantom, Christine, and Raoul) talk about going to Red Robin, as one example. They also throw in modern allusions to literature and film (singing machine from Shrek), as well as Christine using her phone during the roof scene. These changes make it easier for the audience to connect and find humor within the story. Similar speech patterns follow the characters throughout the story. Phantom commands and bosses the other characters, which fits his character profile within the One Act. Raoul has a more scattered and foolish mind. Carlotta uses the most unfamiliar words, such as ingenue, which denoted a young female character who has endearing innocence or naivety (Christine). • 4. Mark s Great Commission Research Paper Mark s Great Commission Out of all three Synoptic Gospel s, Mark s Gospel is the shortest as well as the first Gospel to be written. . Moreover, scholars suggest that the Gospel of Mark is a summary of Peter s sermon in the house of Cornelius (Acts 10). Additionally, Mark s Gospel ends with a commission similar to the other Gospels. Whereas the other Gospels commissions are similar, Mark is the only gospel that addresses the problem of reception and rejection of the gospel. In Matthew s gospel, Matthew focuses on discipleship, obedience to Jesus teachings, and all nations of the world. • 21. The Themes Of Marvel Comics And DC Comics Marvel Comics and DC Comics were both founded in the 1930 s as, naturally, comic book publishers. Today they form 70% of the comic book market. By 2016, that market as a whole had hit a record high of $1.085B in both physical and digital comic book sales (Johnston, 2016) (Comichron, 2016). Some of the highest selling comic series currently in print have strong NCC themes. These include DC s Batman and Marvel s The Punisher series. Batman or Bruce Wayne, is a bat themed vigilante that carries out what he considers to be justice within the corrupt, crime infested Gotham City. (Halevy and Cooper, 2016) (DC Comics, 2017). Bruce Wayne is the billionaire owner of Wayne Enterprises and inherited his wealth and desire to fight crime after witnessing his parents being mugged and then murdered. DC describes him as both a leader and a hero. (DC Comics, 2017). In the typical Batman comic however, Batman is being hunted by the police, mostly due to his violent solutions to crime. [He] distrusts the police and willingly breaks the law in order to enforce his own values of what he considers justice. An interesting example occurs in the very first Batman comic: Batman No.1 1940, in which Batman executes a mental patient by hanging him from his Batplane. Using a toxic serum, an evil scientist had mutated the mental patient into a very strong, enraged monster, locked him in a truck, and was planning to use him to rob a bank. Batman kills the truck driver with the Batplane s mounted machine gun, then makes a noose with his Batrope, lowers it down, and hangs the monster while he s attempting to crawl out of the truck wreckage. The monster s corpse is casually dragged along behind the Batplane, and Batman remarks, He s probably better off this way. (Cracked, 2012). Interestingly enough, Batman had created and used an antidote to this serum just a few pages earlier, but did not attempt, or even think to use the antidote on the monster. Despite this, Batman is considered a superhero and is often compared to Superman, who by stark contrast, is willing to fight alongside the law, and has faith in the American criminal justice system. Once an aneurysm has ruptured, emergency surgery is needed to prevent the patient from suffering a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a fatal type of stroke. The insertion of a detachable embolic coil can prevent rupturing of aneurysms and the need for emergency surgery. A technical study was conducted which used an experimental model constructed in the necks of swine to simulate a specific type of brain aneurysm (1). Once this wire to correctly inserted within the aneurysm, a 1 mA current is exerted on the delivery wire. The current is meant to dissolve the steel delivery wire close to the platinum coil. This process is done by electrolysis so simultaneously the positively charged platinum will attract the negatively charged red and white blood cells, and platelets which causes intra aneurysmal thrombosis. If thrombosis does not happen immediately, coils also most likely enforce critical protection against re hemorrhage by reducing blood pulsations inside the aneurysm and sealing the weak portion of the blood vessel s wall. Eventually thrombus will build within the aneurysm and the aneurysm is excluded from the parent blood vessel by a layer of connective tissue. This has been successfully demonstrated in experimental dog models that were effective in producing thrombosis of the aneurysm and suggest that the design is useful in the endovascular treatment of aneurysms (2). Once this electrolysis process has occurred, the delivery wire can be taken out, leaving the the coil in the proper position. Now an additional coil can be inserted into the aneurysm and this process can be repeated until the aneurysm is densely filled with the coils to prevent it from rupturing. • 26. A Dream For A World Without Food Labels Essay A Dream for a World Without Food Labels In his essay My Dream Food Label, Mark Bittman makes the case that current food labels, while providing the consumer with ample information, do not indicate whether or not the food contained is really beneficial . Bittman argues that labels should additionally involve clear graphics, such as a traffic light indicating the healthiness of the food, as well as criteria such as hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, etc. These criteria would ideally also include the production of the food, particularly the welfare of the workers and animals involved, and perhaps even the carbon footprint of the food. Bittman ultimately uses such advocacy for food label reform to support his own proposed food label design, equipped with a 15 point color coded scale ranking the food according to its nutrition, as it currently exists, foodiness , or how close the food is to real food , and welfare , or the overall treatment of the workers, animals, and environment. While his arguments for food labels are well intentioned, attempting to address serious issues, Bitman s supposed solutions are highly flawed. Bittman s call for greater awareness, responsibility, and sustainability of the welfare involved with the food industry is admirable. The widespread access to food from all over the world has certainly created great ambiguity around food sources. As a result, food production and transport methods can evade public awareness, individuals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The nicotine levels of the new flue cured, Y 1, and rustica tobacco plants were 6% of the plant s body weight. Before, tobacco only had 2% 3.5% nicotine. Chewing tobacco and snuff products have always contained fiberglass in them. These flecks of glass pierced gums and lips to allow nicotine to flow into the pores making it more addictive. The industry has since made the fiberglass obsolete and replaced it with actual nicotine crystals. These crystals penetrate the gums and dissolve inside of your jaw. Basically, consumers are now getting approximately double the nicotine in smoking and smokeless tobacco than had previously. The government has passed laws that prevent youth from purchasing tobacco goods. The legal age for acquirement of tobacco is 18. Does that in itself ward away potential teen tobacco users? To a certain degree, it works very effectively. Consumers under the legal age have no way around this law. However, there are some marketers that sell to underage tobacco users. But the industry is hardly to blame for that. The President devised a plan to raise prices of tobacco over the next four years in an attempt to discourage tobacco consumers. • 30. A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift Satire has the ability to point out societal inadequacy and ridicule political policies in a way that is humorous in its absurdity while masking its true intent. In A Modest Proposal by Jonathan Swift, the author s use of exaggeration and irony to draw attention to the meaningless lives of the Irish people to English rule not only gives his work a wider audience but also serves as a furtherment of Swift s typical derisiveness. A Modest Proposal comments on the harm caused by the Declaratory Act of 1720, an act that allowed Great Britain s parliament to legislate over Ireland with no input from the Irish House of Lords, leaving Ireland in severe economic distress. In keeping with this style, Swift assured that the reader would look deeper into his work than the surface meaning. While lacing his work with an old, familiar style Swift injected his own unique flair in his pamphlet as well. In A Modest Proposal paragraphs frequently start with sympathetic, almost dreamlike, idealizations and end, metaphorically, with a knife to the gut. Swift entices the reader with his sympathetic voice then delivers such biting wit the reader is stunned and taken aback. Another trick used by Swift is a redirection technique. Major points are intentionally separated to redirect readers to Swift s important views and enforce his ideas. In A Modest Proposal Swift uses the end of the pamphlet to restate all previous notions. This gives the reader not only a refresher but another chance to analyze the true meaning. A Modest Proposal is obviously a satiric work, but it s Swift s use of satire that makes his work effective, particularly his combination of political and societal satire leaving none of the intended audience unscathed. Swift agrees with the bourgeoisie class so vehemently that it becomes noticeably sarcastic. He maintains the calm demeanor of the narrator making the faked emotions cold and insincere. Essay about The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society The Effect of Highspeed Trains on Society A major reason in favor of the construction of high speed trains in America is to relieve airways and traffic congestion. First, delays at airports are costly. Larry Johnson, director of the Center for transportation Research at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, calculates that passengers lose more that twelve million hours each year in delays at O Hare airport alone. In 1986, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) airlines, delays cost five billion dollars, including two billion in extra fuel and labor cost, for the ailing airline industry. According to the FAA, relieving airport congestion will cost one hundred and seventeen billion over the next decade (Mobey 14). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the next twenty years, this insidious tax is projected to nearly double (Mallinckarodt p1). Bill Fay said, Cars stuck in traffic waste more fuel and emit more pollutants than cars that are moving (Dahl 4). High occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes are one of the primary tools used to reduce traffic congestion on the state highway system and improve air quality ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). The usual goal of HOV lane restrictions is to provide overall congestion, and emissions reduction (Mallinckdet. p 1). However, in recent years, HOV lanes effectiveness in achieving these goals has come in to question ( HOV Lanes in California #8230; p1). When drivers use a highway, they do not pay the cost that they may be imposing on other drivers. Ideally, traffic should flow smoothly at the speed limit. However, as traffic increases, eventually the addition of one more vehicle will slow the flow and increase the travel time of other vehicles. At this point congestion (the negative externality) begins (Dahl p4). Sen Daniel Patrick Moynihan said, The train technology, offers great opportunities to reduce congestion in our surface and air transportation system (Clough 9). Thus building high speed trains would aid the problem of increasing congestion at America s airports and on the highways. Those who argue against high speed trains cite their ... • 36. The Debate Over Time To Reduce The Budget Deficit We have a long story of debt, but it seems no one has been able to make it better. If the debt is increasing over time, the government has a budget deficit. Charles C. Turner, et al, define deficit as spending that exceed revenue (482). In history, basic deficit or debt was usually from over spending from a war and economic issues like a recession or depression. Then the government had a budget deficit almost every year between 1970 and 1997, but tax cut and more spending on defense by President Reagan in 1981 added more growth to the deficit. Also, another cause is from reducing of productivity seem in the GDP and lower tax rate (tax cut) (483). Even when the government had some budget surplus, still, it could not cover the debt. In 2012, the debt grew over $ 16 trillion, (482 483) and has increased more in recent year plus 2.9 percent of budget deficit in 2016 (The 2016 Long Term Budget Outlook, 2). To manage the economic depression, sometime policymakers cut the taxes and increase spending again by putting more money into private sectors (Turner, 483); therefore, government goes further with the budget unbalancing. There are several reasons that lower tax rate will not reduce the budget deficit closer to a balance. First, lower tax rate will lower revenues. Overall tax cuts for a new coming year will bring different amounts of revenue from the previous year if the tax rate falls below a previous percentage. • 47. Perseverance in Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a... Perseverance in Robert Frost s Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Epictetus once wrote, First say what you would be; and then do what you have to do. This aphorism of self discovery and obligation clearly describes Robert Frost s poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. In the course of the poem, Frost s speaker is confronted with two choices: he can either forget his problems or he can follow through with his responsibilities and make the most of life. It is through Frost s remarkable presentation of the speaker s thoughts that the reader may see how difficult this decision can be. Through powerful elements, such as alliteration, rhythm, and imagery, Frost stresses the importance of perseverence and facing one s fears and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through clever and distant alliteration, Frost displays the importance of deciding whether to remain strong and press forward or to cowardly give up. Despite its possibly being the more difficult path, Frost signifies the essence of perseverence through rhythm. Throughout the poem, Frost employs a repetitive, trance like rhythm to compliment the speaker s struggle to fight off reality and remain in his carefree world. Furthermore, Jhan Hochman explains it as an ingenious form of interlocking rhyme: the third unrhymed line of the first three stanzas provokes the subsequent stanza s rhymed sound (Hochman 4). Frost s use of rhythm is an eloquent and clever element that expresses the weak and weary state of the speaker in his moment of a life changing decision. Yet, in the last stanza frost brings his flowing lines to an abrupt halt with But I have promises to keep (Frost 13). With this line, Frost not only shifts the meter of the poem, but also signifies the speaker s realization that he cannot give up or quit because of the life commitments he has made. Frost powerfully uses the rhythm in Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening to emphasize the importance of choosing the path of life and all of its responsibilities instead of the easy way out. With imagery, Frost again stresses the significance of persevering over one s fears. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Analysis Of The Poem Adrienne Rich Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties. Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the National Center for Health Statistics , was at twenty five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism to paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted, in a colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse. The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted. With bright colors in the first stanza, Bright topaz denizens of a world of green, (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that includes brown, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that a true Topaz is colorless. Denizens means a place or places so the author s meaning is, in a sense ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
