The Atomic Bomb Essay
In this paper, it will be discussed why the Atomic Bomb is the biggest method of destruction
known to man. The paper will be discussing the results of the Atomic Bombs, along with the
effects years after the initial explosion. People always wonder how many people actually died in
the two
Atomic Bombs which were dropped in Japan. This question will be answered, along with the
method that citizens were actually killed by the bomb. Besides the initial blast winds that an
Atomic Bomb gives off, people may be killed by several other things including heat rays, radiation
and the implosion of their home.
Robert S. Oppenheimer, was the father of the Atomic
Bomb. After Albert Einstein stated that if the Nazi s made a nuclear weaponfirst, the ... Show more

In the two bombings there was a large gap in the number of people that died. In Hiroshima the city
population at the time of the bombing was 310,000, The estimated deaths was
90,000 140,000 people. As for the Nagasaki bombing, the city population before the bombing was
250,000. The estimated number of deaths was 60,000 80,000 people.
Notice that the word, quot;estimated quot;, was used for both amounts of deaths. The reason for
this is because, the number of deaths cannot be precisely known because records of military
personnel in each city were destroyed.
There have been several comparisons between the damage capabilities of the two bombs. First of
all, it was said that to achieve maximum blast effect, the bomb had been set to detonate 1800 feet
over Hiroshima. This is approximately
548 meters. The bomb in Hiroshima reached a height of
580+/ 15 meters. As for the bomb in Nagasaki, it reached a height of 500+/ 10 meters. The radius
in which ceramic roof tiles melted was 600m in the Hiroshima bombing and 1000m in the
Nagasaki bombing. The radius in which granite stone melted was 1,000m for the Hiroshima bomb
and 1,600m for the Nagasaki bomb. What can be determined from these statistics is that the
Nagasaki bomb has much stronger heat rays in it, and in turn would destroy more territory and kill
more people. As said earlier in this essay, the location of
Nagasaki prevented that. It was said that when

Lab Report On Solid Oxide Fuel Cells ( Sofc )
Abstract
In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode
performance, the viability of using a conductive LSF YSZ composite scaffold with one
infiltration cycle of LSCF was investigated. XRD patterns of LSF YSZ powder presented that at
1400oC and 1300oC calcination, an obvious shift in LSF peak occurred, indicating Zr doping
into LSF and forming a less conductive phase. Different ratios of LSF YSZ scaffolds were tested
by impedance spectroscopy with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the
amount of LSF increases, and 1350oC scaffold has a much lower ohmic resistance than the
1400oC one. A pure YSZ cell infiltrated with 35 wt% LSCF was used as reference and by
comparing it with a cell composed of 70:30 LSF YSZ scaffold calcined at 1350oC with one cycle
of LSCF infiltration, a comparable cell performance both in ohmic and non ohmic parts was
achieved.
Introduction
In solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), the typical cathodes with the best performance are usually
composites of the electrolyte oxide and an electronically conductive and catalytically active oxide
which is usually a perovskite.1,2 For example, in cells made of yttria stablized zirconia (YSZ)
electrolyte, the conventional cathode composite is a mixture of YSZ and Sr doped LaMnO3
(LSM). 1,2 The commonly used YSZ electrolyte oxide in the electrode is to enhance the ionic
conductivity, thus increasing the electrochemically active region in the electrode. 1 4

Jazz and the White Critic
Jazz and The White Critic
The article Jazz and White Critic by Amiri Baraka brings light to an element of jazz criticism that
he is frustrated by. Baraka finds controversy in the ideas white critics write about regarding jazz
music. Baraka states, Most jazz critics have been white Americans, but most important jazz
musicians have not been. In the 1960 s, when Baraka made this statement, jazz was becoming more
popularized and socially accepted. African American jazz musicians took a long, strenuous journey
over decades to push their music into the spotlight to become one of the most popular music styles
in society internationally. The special element of jazz is its raw emotion. Baraka distinguishes
between White Jazz , music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the opposite end of the spectrum within modern jazz critiques falls Everett R. Davis s(an
African American) review of Eddie Allen: Push. This critique uses metaphors as well as
adjectives and verbs to best describe the journey Allen s music whisks the listener away on.
Davis describes fewer technicalities and provides more feeling in his critique. By describing the
physical and emotional terms of jazz a reader is as close to the experience of the music as they
can get without experiencing it first hand. Davis describes sounds in a trade off solo section; the
scream of Allen s trumpet shouting at the keyboard, the lightly taunting elements, and a bass solo
that feels like a workout where all instruments break loose. Davis uses sensory images; Sacred
Ground follows, beginning with flowing rhythms and a light swing tempo followed with smoothly
galloping solos which complement each other. Caress, Who Can I Turn To and With Open Arms
are smoother, easily evoking images of easily slipping away and relaxing under a favorite tree on a
quiet afternoon.
It is critiques like this one that are valuable to the jazz community. It is important to evoke emotions
through words when talking about jazz. Amiri Baraka s article Jazz and the White Critic introduced

Integra Lifesciences s Strategic Intent
Integra LifeSciences Overview Integra LifeSciences was conceived in 1989. Integra grew through
an acquisition model of 47 different businesses, combined to form the ILS entity. Acquisitions of
new products were designed to complement or enhance the sales representative s bag of surgical
offerings. This enterprise approach supports Integra s strategic intent to serve as a one stop shop
for surgical products. Integra LifeSciences is a medical device company that provides a diverse
offering of surgical implants and medical instruments designed for use with neurosurgery, extremity
reconstruction, orthopedics, and general surgery. The ILS business model is predicated on
horizontal integration of its 5 business divisions.

FMC Integra are similar in that they offer medical devices regulated, in the U.S., by the Code of
Federal Regulations (CFR) Title 21 Part 820. This U.S. regulation serves as a set of business
requirements designed to assure companies operate in a state of compliance. This state of
compliance helps to support safe and effective patient outcomes. The Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) govern this set of requirements through routine inspections designed to determine a
company s conformance. Failure to comply can result in fines and/or a loss of distribution
privileges within the U.S.
Working in a highly regulated industry such as medical devices, puts additional burden on the
managing organization s ability to manage operations and promote products and services. The right
people can help differentiate one organization from the next. Organizations and businesses can
emulate successful companies. They are able to make their buildings look the same. They can set
up the offices and organizations the same. They can use the same equipment and manufacturing
processes, however all of this imitation does not guarantee a successful outcome. The one element
that cannot be imitated is the people. Ultimately patents run out, competitors can imitate products,
and competition in a profitable business segment increases. Successful

Influential People Today
In the society we live in today, our thought processes are different than what they were a decade or
two ago. We live in the cinematic age as they call it, and in this time it is quite difficult to have
positive influences as the world faces destruction, neglect, and hatred. As a little boy not
understanding the world, I would have assumed that most people were somewhat influential.
However, as I aged into the young man I am today, I understand that being influential persontakes a
certain individual. An individual who has the moral code of willingness to help others effectively
while asking for nothing in return but their happiness. Besides my parents and some family
members I can simply say with all that is occurring in our time, there is not one person I can truly
admire today. Six centuries before christ, there was a figure that sought out to find a deeper
meaning in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This figure showed that there is more to life than just affluences. In the modern culture we are
surrounded by today, there are a few people who are inspirations to others, such as Bill Gates,
Taylor Swift, Emma Watson, Warren Buffett, and a few others. These individuals dedicated their
life into accomplishing what they have today. However, although these individuals are certainly an
inspiration to the next generation of kids, I find that they do not posses all the qualities of trying to
build a better future. As a little boy my grandparents would always talk to me about a certain
individual who has influenced their lives. Maybe not as a child, but as I got older I started to
understand why my grandparents would always talk about Siddhartha Gautama. According to

Dante s Vengeance
The idea of one s station in life has always been debated throughout the times, whether it is in the
form of the Great Chain of Being during the classical period or the modern day debate of gene
therapy and its ethics. Alexandre Dumas was first exposed to the concept of trying to usurp the
natural order of things on the day his father died. He wrote in his memoirs that he wanted to kill
God, who killed Daddy (Reiss 13) which is an example of wanting to rise beyond one s position
and believing oneself to be more powerful than God. In the Count of Monte Cristo, the protagonist
Dantes was unjustly accused of treason and was imprisoned in Chateau d If. After befriending a
rich Italian abbe, who then bequeathed Dantes a vast fortune and escaping,... Show more content on

The literature he alludes to and the characters all follow a recurring theme of attempting to gain
supernatural power and disregarding the preexisting systems in favor of one s own. To begin,
Dumas alludes to the Shakespeare play Julius Caesar on the eve of the duel between Dantes and
Albert he states he experienced the same thing that happened to Brutus the night before the
battle of Philippi; [he] [had] seen a ghost. (Dumas 362). Furthermore, McDermott further
compares Dates to Brutus since like Brutus before Philippi, he says, he too on the eve of his
duel with Alben has seen a franconi, В· in the form of Mercedes (McDermott 94). Brutus in
Julius Caesar commits regicide by killing Julius Caesar in a misguided intention of doing what s
best for rome. Just like how Dantes chooses to reward and punish in a misguided intention of
righting past wrongs and repaying past debts, what ends up occurring is a series of events that are
caused by his own actions. This again shows arrogance on the parts of both parties. Brutus feels
that his view should be the view of all the Roman people and feels that because he views Caesar as
unfair he must take action without consulting any of his other people. Furthermore, he upsets the
Great Chain of Being by committing regicide, the people should be subservient to their leader but

Raymund Maximilian Kolbe Thesis
What is a saint? A saint is a person of great holiness, who has performed miracles for God s
cause. What is a martyr? A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like
Maximilian Kolbe. Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in
Zdunska Wola, in Poland. Both parents, Marianna and Juliusz, were very holy, and dedicated
much of their time and money to teach their children about the catholic faith. (Gale BIC, 2)
They were both poor weavers, who traded with Jewish merchants. From a young age,
Maximilian was very fond of his faith. He enjoyed church, and loved to pray. In 1907, Max and
his brothers decided to move to an all boys Franciscan school. Their mother was supportive of
this decision, because she wanted to shield the boys from the other sex. When he turned sixteen
in 1910, he was going to join the army, but his mother thought he was fit for the priesthood.
(Gale BIC, 4) So, Kolbe relented, and in 1912, arrived in Rome, and spend the next seven years
their, learning an becoming a priest. He made his priestly vow in the year 1914, and earned a
doctorate in Philosophy in the year 1915. He was finally ordained a priest in 1918. (Gale BIC, 5)

Who I Am I
Many obstacles in my life have made me who I am today. I was raised in West Portsmouth, Ohio,
a small town built off football and family. Life in a small town seems to go by very slowly. It s
all about what you make out of it. Certain events and certain people have influenced me in a way
that has made me a better person. The character of one s self is built from all the hard times we go
through in life, not always off of the easy ones.
My father has had a major influence on me during the course of my life, thus far. My dad was in
the Marine Corps before I was born. He was always strict with me with every aspect of my life and
has always pushed me to be a better person. Growing up, I would see him get up early and come
home late from work. He is a very hard working man and I hope I develop at least half of his
working abilities. He has taught me the majority of what I know now. He is a very smart man and
it s great to have a role model like that as my father.
My mother always played a more studious role in my life. She graduated from Shawnee State
University with a degree in nursing. She is a very smart woman and has always pushed me to get
good grades and go to college. I could honestly say that I wouldn t have received half the good
grades as I did if it wasn t for her always checking up and being there for me with my schooling.
She s always had a job as well and she strives to make me a better person religiously and mentally
day by day. The motivation she brings to me

Accolades In Beowulf
Heroes shouldn t seek accolades, heroes should stay humble and never be selfish; not doing so
makes you selfish and non heroic in every aspect possible. Risking your life for treasure isn t
worth it, it s also not what being a true hero is really about.
Definition of a hero summed into my own words a person who does selfless acts without thought
of reward. In the Story Of Beowulf all Beowulf wanted was accolades, because of that Beowulf
died selfishly instead of dying as a true hero. Living a more modest life as a hero gets you
remembered no matter what you did, Neil Armstrong was the first guy to step foot on the moon;
even though he did such a big thing or big leap for the future of the country he still lived a very
humble life, thirty years later he s still remembered like it happened yesterday. When you seek
accolades you re the one losing, Beowulf seeked accolades his whole life and he also lost his life
fighting a dragon for some treasure, that really wasn t worth it, it just doesn t make him a true
hero, the dragon was not hurting anyone he risked his life for the treasure and not the people
which brings me back to my point you shouldn t seek accolades because it does not make you
the true hero, the real reward is the feeling of helping the person in need or doing the
extraordinary at the end of the day that s all that really matters. On the other end of the scale
heroes could seek accolades, they deserve the reward for saving

Describe The Importance Of The Colosseum
The Colosseum
Koch, Matt
Do you know what one of the most important structures to mankind history is? The Colosseum. The
importance of the Colosseum, otherwise known originally as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was that
many of the materials, styles, and architecture were inspiring to many architects and designers
constructing today s modern facilities and structures.
The emperor of Rome at the time, Vespasian, began building the Colosseum (Flavian
Amphitheatre) in 72 AD. They believed that in ancient Rome the patron was more noble and
loyal than the architects, and the architects were just craftsmen and hired hands (Woog, 2014).
So as of today the designers and architects are unknown to the world, and will probably never be
found out about because if limited evidence. Floor plans, 3 dimensional scale models,
perspective drawings, and full size design sketches are what were used by the anonymous
architects and designers of the Colosseum (Hopkins, 2011). The site of construction was formerly
known as the Golden House, owned and lived in by Nero the Emperor. This was drained and as a
precaution against potential earthquake damage concrete foundations six metres deep were put
down to support it (Cartwright, 2012). And eight long years of hard work and design later the
Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre) was completed in 80 CE.
There were many materials mixed in the project of constructing the Colosseum (Flavian
Amphitheatre). The walls of the Colosseum were built with stone. They made use of a number of
arches in order to keep the weight down, but yet still keep them strong (Cartwright, 2012). The
floor of the Colosseum was wooden and usually covered in sand most of the time. But the floor
was taken out due to heavy weathering in 1674 AD. And about 19 miles outside of Rome in a little
town of Tivoli were quarries where the Romans mined there stone blocks out of to construct the
walls of the Colosseum. Some other material they had used to construct the colosseum include,
limestone brick, concrete and volcanic stone (otherwise known as tufa ), pumice stone. And
including bronze, which was used for statues around the stadium. But some parts of the colosseum
that are made of concrete are not authentic original to the

Essay On Remodeling To Home
RENOVATING IDEAS TO INCREASE HOUSE VALUE
Whenever individuals do a house renovation, the majority of them expect to bring a good looking
value from the reselling of the house, while this may not often be the case, some elements have to
be thought about prior to one does a remodel. The most important variable has to be comparing the
cost of the remodelling compared to that of the value, this comes in handy when making a decision
no matter if the investment would be worth it. When we are performing remodeling to our homes,
our main element is always to increase the value, and below are some ideas on how the value
might be boosted.

Appiah The Ethics Of Identity
Written by Ghanaian American philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah, The Ethics of Identity
distinctively examines the true meanings of heavy and often abstract social topics such as
individuality and identity by constantly referring to John Stuart Mill s philosophical yet liberal
concepts and ideas. Although the book contains a narrative side, it also has a formation of
arguments that precisely present Appiah s points. The idea that we search and pursue our
individuality in the world that shapes us is one that Appiah tends to focus on throughout the text. In
relation to the idea of identity, this essay will explore and connect Appiah and Mill s views on this
idea to one of, if not the most, influential musical composers in history: Ludwig Van... Show more

Basically, a selfish form of individualism is possible, and some people may have an identity that
only benefits their own desires. One may consider Beethoven s personal individuality to be
rather selfish. Sure, Beethoven influenced music as he made it transition from the classical era
to the romantic era, and he was the bridge between the two worlds. However, it is arguable that
he composed his well known and ground breaking music only to satisfy himself as he was an
unmarried man who always lived alone His lack of normal interaction made him a miserable
man. The clear connection between Beethoven s deafness and Appiah is that sometimes identity
is a concept that we can t always choose. It can sometimes come to us as we continue on with
life, so we have to accept our fate. An example of this would be when Appiah mentioned how
John Mill fell in love with a married woman named Harriet Taylor. She understood him because
she, herself, was also a philosopher. Mill and Taylor had a platonic relationship that lasted for 20

Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The poem The Epic of Gilgamesh is considered to be the first documented work of literature,
which originated in Uruk, a city state located along the channel of the Euphrates River in Sumer.
The Sumerians were the first civilization in Mesopotamia to devise a system of written language,
which consisted of wedge shaped characters that were inscribed in clay tablets. This system of
writing is known as cuneiform, and it was used to record The Epic of Gilgamesh. Throughout this
epic poem, Gilgamesh, the king and ruler of Uruk, encounters a number of religious figures that
sheds light upon the history and culture of the Mesopotamians. It is apparent from the start of
the poem, that the people of Uruk centered their entire lifestyle around the many deities of the
polytheistic Sumerian religion. Gilgamesh himself was the son of the goddess Ninsun and king
Lugulbanda, and was considered to be one third human, and two thirds god. Gilgamesh also
encounters Utnapanishtim, who was gifted with immortality from the gods after serving as a
heroic savior during a great flood, in which the biblical story of Noah s Ark alludes to.
Furthermore, The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the most significant literary works in history; it has
influenced and shaped the course of western literature, in molding the first archetypes of an epic
hero, and in its use of literary devices. Generally, people who are schooled in the United States are
first introduced to the concept of an epic hero, and the use of

like there is no hope. Nando sacrificed his life in hope to find rescues for the lives of many

Colin Powell Leadership Analysis
This paper is a descriptive essay that explains in detail how or why Colin Powell s eighteen
leadership principles pertains to me during phase II of 922A Warrant Officer Basic Course. I
chose three leadership principals that I was able to identify with: (1) Being responsible
sometimes means pissing people off. (2) You don t know what you can get away with until you
try. (3) Perpetual optimism is a force multiplier. This paper describes my personal opinions and
real life experiences that pertain to each of the three principals chosen. Three Leadership
Principals from Colin Powell s Leadership Philosophy Being a leader, doing the right thing and
living up to the army values are all things that society expects of a military officer. Leadership
means to positively influence, motivate and provide your Soldiers with a sense of purpose to
accomplish the mission to the highest standard. General Colin Powell has published both books
and articles on leadership, specifically his eighteen principles of leadership. After reading
through the eighteen principles I have chosen three that I am able to identify with and will
discuss in detail how and why each principle pertains to me. The first principle I chose was, Being
responsible sometimes means pissing people off. A quality leader shows responsibility for the
welfare and well being of their Soldiers, which also inevitably means some people will get angry at

INTRODUCTION After several new product failures, the company began using customer input to
help develop new products. In 1989, the fishing electronics industry is experiencing a downturn,
and the company s sales and profits are slipping. The company, which has one product line (depth
sounders) and a strong brand (Hummingbird), has conducted substantial market research on three
new products. These products are project 901, hummingbird VHF Radio, Locator/ GPS navigator.
Of these, project 901 is an extension of the depth sounder product, while the other two would be
new product lines for the company. Top management is deciding which one or more of the three
new products it should proceed with. In this paper, I will discuss the positive and... Show more

Positive aspects of the product В·From Exhibit 5, 901 project is a clear winner because it scored
high on the dimensions of uniqueness and purchase likelihood. В·901 earned high uniqueness
score of any techsonic product and highest intention to buy score since the original LCR in 1984
В·Fresh water fishers and mid sized boat owners were the most likely to buy the product. From
exhibit 4, techsonic already is a market leader in freshwater LCD units and 901 would increase
its market share. В·Based on techsonic retail pricing plan of $441 for standard unit and $629 for
deluxe unit, 901 would represent sales of $71.2 million. В·Important perceived benefit of 901 is
that it helped customer find fish faster and see them better, which is exactly what the customers
are looking to get from a depth sounder product. В·901 can make fishing easier and hence more
fun for the customers. В·Exact features that customer wants in standard and deluxe models was
easily obtained through market research В·MRF suggested retail price of $529 for standard model
and $629 for deluxe model Which is more than what techsonic had initially estimated В·Techsonic
can continue to distribute project 901 products through mass market channels since customers are
already aware of depth sounders. Negative Aspects of the product В·Project 901 is an extension to

Bowel Screening Essay
In this essay I will be discussing the current recommendations for large bowel screening, to
diagnose bowel cancer, including those categorised as high risk. I will also be discussing the role
of imaging in the initial diagnosis and the subsequent follow up.
The NHS have found that bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK, with
around 40,000 new cases being diagnosed every single year. This means that approximately 1 in
every 20 people will develop bowel cancer at some point within their lifetime. However, the
earlier it is detected, the higher the rate of successful treatment and survival. This is why bowel
screening is so important. It has been found that around 90% of those who suffer from bowel

muffled giggles and outright laughing. The sounds blended and the wailing started again. I
looked around frantically at all the delighted faces. My eyes finally stopped on the steel desk

Due to hydrogen bonds present and the polarity of water, this gives water a set of unique
properties, the first one being cohesion. Understanding that water molecules are polar, meaning that
the positive end of one molecule is attracted to the negative end of another molecule, forming
hydrogen bonds. Due to hydrogen bonding, water molecules are attracted to each other, allowing
for the development of surface tension. One example of this is the lab experiment featuring water

How Change Is A Essential Part Of Life
Change is a vital part of life, it allows us to grow and mature overtime. Whether you want to
believe it or not, we go through changes. We find different outlooks, styles and sometimes we
may even change our personality, or maturity level. My choices over the course of this semester
have changed me for the better. I started this class oblivious to the norms and traditions of a
college English class. I must admit that for the first few weeks I was shocked at how different
college is from my simple high schoolEnglish course.
I now have a different outlook on life. At the beginning of the semester I wasn t sure whether or
not I wanted to further my education at a four year university, or successfully complete my AA
degree and then enter a police academy. I can now say that I know my path and I can t wait to
walk it, I m glad that this change has happened in my life. Additionally, the next thing that has
changed is my maturity level. I didn t take this class as serious as I should have in the beginning
and my grade reflected that. I changed my attitude toward the course by concentrating more on the
instructions and making sure that I followed them to the best of my ability.
I wrote about the emotion desire in an essay earlier this semester, while I do feel this emotion daily
there is another emotion that stays prevalent in my mind. Pride is something that is a big part of
my personality, it is both a positive and a negative. Everyone needs at least some pride or else they

significant problems and was known to be a dangerous place to work. In other words the
refinery was falling apart (PBS: Frontline). On March 23, 2005, 15 people were killed and 170
were injured in an explosion at BP s Texas City refinery (Schorn). It was the worst workplace
accident in this country since 1989 (Schorn). BP, like Amoco, considered replacing an
antiquated blowdown drum used to collect gasoline. However, BP decided to bank a saving of
$150,000 and just repair the blowdown drum, because capital expenditure was very tight
(Schorn). According to many experts, this savings was the direct cause of the 2005 explosion.
On March 23, 2005, BP employees began restarting a unit that had been down for repairs. The
blowdown drum began to fill with gasoline, but it overflowed and sent a geyser of gasoline into
the air (PBS: Frontline). The cloud of gas created from the drum was ignited by an idle truck.
The blast that followed destroyed several office trailers full of workers parked nearby (Schorn).

If before examining any process or thought, the leader puts all the participants in an environment
with the same condition, external influences will not affect their behavior or performance. This
would help the leader to achieve the accurate result that he/ she is looking for. For example, if a
platoon leader wants to know about the mental endurance of the soldiers in his platoon and tasks
them for conducting a gruesome mission, he should ensure that all his soldiers are having equal
responsibility with equal mental pressure. If some of them face serious challenges while others
are relaxing, he will receive a biased result. Also, the environment might affect their performance
and soldiers having favorable environment will show more mental endurance. Therefore, as a
leader to ensure unbiased culture not only in an experiment but also in general for a good working
environment, it is necessary to create an identical condition for all the employees in the profession.
That is how it becomes easy to assess people and their activities. In an institution, everyone must

Assuming that the 80 acres of farmland do not come with all of the equipment needed to grow

materials and hire the manpower to get the farm up and running, but also the funds to sustain
your likelihood while waiting for the crops to turn a profit, you would find yourself in quite the
predicament. There are alternatives to obtaining these additional resources, such as taking out
business loans or finding a business partner, but these added expenses may in turn cause
additional stress in your life, defeating the purpose of moving to Illinois seeking refuge in a
more peaceful environment. I also believe it is important to research the corn crops and corn
based ethanol a little bit more before jumping into a decision like this. According to the 2014

incomes will be down for corn farmers in comparison to previous years (Schnitkey, 2013). Even

Muchos Somoss By Pablo Neruda Literary Devices
Muchos Somos After reading the poem Muchos Somos By Pablo Neruda in his poem he is
describing himself confuse and conflict of self by revealing different concepts of identity and
his trouble dealing with many personalities. The metaphor is found in the last line of the poem
when he says, I shall speak not of self, but of geography. (Neruda, Line 45) I believe he is
comparing his character to a world of unknown lands like a town placed in a valley or a river.
Without an understanding of Neruda s mind it seems he feels lost and powerless, and this metaphor
helps the reader to express those feelings. Another example of metaphor that also highlights the
feelings of Neruda is at the beginning of the poem, They disappear among my clothes,

The Theme Of Whiteness In Herman Melville s Moby-Dick
In Herman Melville s Moby Dick, whiteness or the lack of whiteness plays a significant role. The
whiteness of Ahab, Ishmael, and other sailors, and the lack of whiteness of Queequeg, and the
whiteness of nonhuman components, like the whale and the ship, address the subject of race.
Melville uses the motif of whiteness and the lack of whiteness to convey the theme that the white
man s reign in American is ultimately doomed.
To fully understand Melville s view on whiteness and race, one can look towards other literary
authors and their personal descriptions of Herman Melville. Toni Morrison describes Melville as
an African Americanist...on white supremacist culture (Levine 9 10). Because Melville did not
believe in the supremacy of the white man, one can determine that Melville also did not believe
the white man should be above all other races. Moby Dick has been considered a radically anti
racist text by several scholars (Andriano 141). D. H. Lawrence, after reading Moby Dick, writes
that Melville predicted the doom of the white man in America. Melville knew. He knew his race
was doomed. His white soul, doomed. He great white epoch, doomed. Himself doomed (160).
Lawrence supports his argument with the sinking of the Pequod because this ship belonged to
Ahab, the white American man. The white man failed in the end and was killed by his own
obsession with whiteness.
When Melville was writing Moby Dick, there are claims that he read an article by Lous Agassiz.

Significance Of Silence In Obasan
Writers often employ recurring events to show significance. In Joy Kogawa s, Obasan, a novel
about the Japanese persecution during World War 2, silence is used repeatedly to show
protection. The silence of events in the book serves as a portrayal of love and protection from
whatever it may be that is kept a secret. The silence in the novelshapes Naomi s life in that it leads
her to question the silence and suppress it.
First, a significant event takes place in Naomi s life in which she portrays silence. At the simple
age of 4 years old, Naomi is repeatedly raped by Old Man Gower. The next door neighbor, Old
Man Gower, begins to undress me. I do not resist. As an innocent child, Naomi keeps silent about
these events because she wants to protect her relationship with her mother; furthermore, Naomi
states, If I tell my mother about Mr. Gower, the alarm will send a tremor through our bodies and I
will be torn from her. In an attempt to keep the love and shelter her relationship, Naomi remains
quiet about these horrid incidents. At the young age of 4, Naomi learns to believe that silence will
guarantee no problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Feed My Personal Statement
Walking into my kitchen, one December evening of 2014, I saw the printed itinerary for our
upcoming trip. There, at the very top, in my mom s cursive, was written Hollywood. Possessing
a deep appreciation for travel and cities, I was thrilled to add another place to my repertoire.
With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I rushed into my closet, dug up my scruffy suitcase
and lugged it back to my mom. Haphazardly, I began compiling my favorite outfits, my room
suddenly resembling a disaster zone. It was then, tangled up in feelings of exhilaration and chaos,
that I knew I was in for an unforgettable experience, one that would stay embedded in my memory
for years to come. After seemingly endless hours on the road, my mom and I finally arrived.... Show

After witnessing the issues in Hollywood, I felt compelled to improve urban neighborhoods by
creating social services and enacting regulations to facilitate better living standards for the
disadvantaged. Granted, I am not able to do such work presently, yet my experience in Hollywood
motivated me to implement social change starting from my community in Chicago. I decided to
take steps to end hunger by volunteering at Feed My Starving Children. Packing dozens of meals
each week, I realized that I was benefiting malnourished children throughout society. Of course,
hunger is an urgent social issue that greatly impacts city growth. Without food, children and adults,
depleted of energy, have limited chances to excel at school and, later on, to secure a steady job.
This, consequently, affects the economy of cities, which is, inevitably, struggling to provide
destitute people with the services that they rightfully need. Hence, the downfall of cities, I have
come to acknowledge, is derived from simple, nonetheless significant deficiencies, which instigate a
chain of events detrimental to urban and regional areas

India: The rising regional and global power
Military cultural awareness can be defined as knowledge of cultural factors and the comprehension
of their impact on the planning and conduct of military operations. It reduces battlefield friction and
improves a unit s ability to accomplish its mission by giving insight into the intent of various actors
within our battlespace and the way these actors interact within groups, supporting planners in
developing centers of gravity to ascertain critical vulnerabilities and assisting in campaign planning

Russians are currently involved in three conflicts to include Syria, Ukraine and the North Caucasus.
Economic Variable: Russias economy is largely based on the production of oil, natural gas and
metals like steel and aluminum. Swings in global prices on these exported goods make the
economy vulnerable to boom and bust cycles. Although Russia underwent a 2 year recession
from 2014 to 2016, the global growth and trade started to strengthen at the end of 2016 with the
economy showing a sign of overcoming the recession that was caused by the shocks of low oil
prices and economic sanctions. The economy is mostly based on a market based system after the
collapse of the Soviet Union. With a high concentration of wealth in officials hands due to a mostly
privatized industry with notable exceptions in the energy, transportation, banking, and defense
related sectors.
Social Variable: Russia s ethnic groups are mostly homogenous while having small groups of
Tatars and Ukrainian mixed into the population of over 142 million people. Most of the
population is made up of non believers as far as religion goes due to a long Soviet rule followed
by Orthodox at 20 percent and Muslim at 15 percent of the population. Russia has a high life

Should Motorcycle Helmets Be Required For All Motorcycle...
Helmets should be required for all motorcycle riders.
According to the Kansas Department of transportation, there were, 1,087 motorcycle crashes in
2016. Of those, 860 people involved in the crashes were injured, 52 people died; while only 21 of
those people were wearing helmets (Kansas Department of Transportation). There are only 17 states
in the United States that require helmets be used always, 19 states say that you must wear a helmet
if you are under the age of 18, while 11 states say you must wear a helmet if you are under the age
of 21, leaving only four states that have no helmet laws at all (Motorcycle Helmet Laws)
While some may argue that motorcycle helmets take away their freedom on the road and oppose
their constitutional rights; helmets should be required to be worn by all motorcycle riders
because they prevent skull, brain, and spinal cord injuries. Helmets prevent wind and debris from
getting in the driver s eyes, and its costs tax payers less money to treat helmets wearers than non
helmet wearers. Motorcycle helmets are specially made and tested to prevent injuries from
occurring to the driver s skull, brain, and spinal cord. Many helmets are run through extensive
testing to ensure that they are going to keep the motorcyclist safe in the event of a collision or
slide (Wendling). According to a study, full face helmets, which surround the entire head and cover
the face, reduced the risk of facial and skull fractures by almost half (Wendling). Helmeted

The Between Christ And Disciples
Jesus was on travel, to the place called Caesarea Philippi. Before we talk about other important
things that we can find from the conversation between Christ and disciples, I like to talk about this
city.
Caesarea Philippi was the location the Cave of Pan, the place of the pagan Gate of Hades. It was
in this area that the first king of Israel (Jeroboam) led the northern kingdom of Israel into
idolatry. This was also the same place where the Greeks and Romans received revelations from
the god Pan who was mentioned in classical writings as a seer or fortune teller and a giver of
revelations. This city was originally under the control of Romans, however, by the Romans, control
got transferred to Herod the Great (Israelite king) in 20 B.C., who subsequently built a temple there
to Caesar Augustus. (Yes, this is the same Herod who professed to be Jewish and paid to rebuild the
temple in Jerusalem). Following Herod s death in 4 B.C., his son Philip assumed control of this
region. It was he that later renamed the town to Caesarea Philippi, in honor of (Caesar) Tiberius
and himself. In other words, this whole place was a symbol of idolization.
In this place, Jesus asked two questions to disciples. Which were, Who do people say that I am?
and Who do you say that I am? To that question, disciples gives an different answers that they have
heard, which was John the Baptistl Elijah, or prophets. For those of us who are sitting in this chair

Delacroix Of The Renaissance Period
Much of Delacroix s inspiration, like many other artists, came from the Renaissance period artist
Michelangelo. He studied his work closely, reveling in his study of figures as well as the life, and
death, he portrayed on canvas. During the later stages of Eugene Delacroix s life he was
commissioned by the government of France to paint enormous paintings on ceilings of buildings,
which made him feel a closeness with the late Michelangelo. It s said that his intensity rivaled that
of Michelangelo as well. Delacroix went so far as to create a portrait painting titled Michelangelo
in His Studio , this shows the intense influence this artist had on his work as well in his life. In
Delacroix s personal journal he wrote of Michelangelo saying, Familiarity with the work of
Michelangelo has exalted and elevated every subsequent generation of painters. We can trace
Delacroix s artistic heritage back to Rubens and Michelangelo, although his use of colors was a
product of his Venetian schooling. Delacroix s influence throughout the Romanticismart movement
is comparable to that of Michelangelo s influence throughout the Renaissancemovements. Delacroix
spent time studying and embodying Michelangelo s work and found his niche in art by studying
his predecessor s realism. Michelangelo is often recognized as the artist who painted the large and
detailed piece located in the Vatican City. He painted scenes from The Old Testament, and The Last
Judgment in the Sistine Chapel. You can see

Cone beam computed tomography

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is a specialized type of x ray examination used to
create 3 dimensional images of the head and neck structure. After attending a lecture on this
technology I was greatly interested to learn more. For this research paper I wanted to compare and
contrast cone beam CT with other more traditional types of radiographic exam equipment.
Since their first discovery and usage in the 1890 s, X ray machines have seen many developments
and improvements. One of the biggest advances has been the creation of machines which can
produce a fully three dimensional image. When most people think of dental x rays, ... Show more

rays are a 2 dimensional representation of a 3 dimensional object, many important details and
subtle differences are lost in the translation. With cone beam CT you are able to see different
structures from multiple vantage points. These characteristics make it the choice of many
speciality dental practices, in particular oral surgery. While it s cost does make it a major
investment, cone beam CT is an excellent technology which is able to do things which other x ray
units cannot. I look forward to hopefully getting some more hands on experience with this

Toni Morrison And Virginia Woolf s The Bluest Eye
Essentialists claim that women writers tend to avoid difficult societal issues, such as gender, race,
and political concepts. They critiqued that women prefer to be safe when it comes to the style of
their works, but that could not be farther than the truth. These women, have in fact, made a
tremendous impact on society and sculpted the way we see things in the world today. Toni
Morrison, author of The Bluest Eye, challenged the Essentialists claim by making a novel about
racism, and how it affected African American culture in the 20th century. Margaret Atwood, author
of The Handmaid s Tale, challenged this notion by addressing issues about sexual violence and
political issues, except in the shape of an extremist and dystopian world.... Show more content on

The characters who were apart of the African community are forced to accept themselves as the
outsiders , which has been told to them by the upper class white community. Morrison shows
how these stereotypes tormented the brains of many, sometimes to the point of losing their
minds. The black community was taunted by the white people, and Morrison made the focus of
the novel a young group of little girls who are just realizing the horrors of the world. Not only
does the novel discuss racism and it s effect on the black community, but it discusses the
unrealistic expectations of beauty in our society. Even the title of the novel The Bluest Eye
displays a stereotypical viewpoint of beauty. For example in the story Pecola Breedlove yearns
to have blue eyes. She hopes that one day she will be able to transform, and therefore be loved
by others because of her new blue eyes. Eventually, Pecola goes crazy, thinking that she has the
bluest eyes. Toni Morrison discussing an issue such as racism and unrealistic beauty standards is
surely not what I call a safe call, but instead, a bold and intimidating one. Personally, this felt like a
way of describing what happens to a person who wants to change themselves physically and
becomes distorted in the process...because it is, in fact, unrealistic to drastically change one s
appearance. Margaret

What Are The Benefits Of The Reunification Of Germany
The fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany is seen by many as one of the iconic
events of the twentieth century. As iconic as it was, it would also prove to be highly consequential
as issues surfaced once East and West Germany joined together. Although some people have been
critical and believe that reunification should have been executed differently, the importance of this
event in history cannot be understated. The reunification of Germanywas an inevitable that was
bound to happen at some point since the initial division of Germany. Reunification at the soonest
time possible was the policy of the four nations that had control over Germany, however events
following Germany s initial division postponed this possibility. The United States would endorse a

Under communism, East Germany boasted a fully employed workforce, upwards of eighty
percent of East German women were employed, and excellent social programs were available to
the public such as free child care. Many of these benefits were compromised upon reunification.
It would have been beneficial for the West German negotiators to recognize the positive aspects
that the East German economy possessed and should have try to implement revised versions of
their own. Property rights would also become a central issue for a unified Germany. Because of
East Germany s policy of expropriating property, millions of Germans lost their land and desired
the return or compensation of their property. Over two million cases were filed by German
citizens and to this day not all of the cases have been sorted through yet. The TREUHAND would
be created to help with solving these cases, however this organization would prove to riddled by
corruption. Members of the TREUHAND would act fraudulently and misallocate property and

Criminal Justice System
Based on those statistics, it s safe to believe that Norway s criminal justice system is doing
something right. The few citizens that go to prison usually only go once. How does Norway
achieve this? The country relies on a method called restorative justice, which aims to repair the
harm caused by crimerather than punish people. This system is purely focused on rehabilitating
prisoners. The United States, on the other hand, places focus on incarceration and incapacitation.
This is where the methodologies clash: should the criminal justicesystem be responsible for
rehabilitating its citizens? The Norwegian government certainly thinks so. They accomplish their

If we treat people like animals when they are in prison they are likely to behave like animals. Here
we pay attention to you as human beings (Sterbenz, 2014). Bastoy has been labeled one of the
most liberal prisons in the world. Prisoners and guards actually work as a team, tending to farm
animals and chopping wood for the winter. They play cards, ski, cook, and take classes. Under
Nilsen s tenue, Bastoy, has received increasing global attention...for the humane conditions under
which the prisoners live in houses rather than cells in what resembles a cosy self sustaining village
(James, 2013).
Bastoy was an experiment, and Norwegian officials hoped that it would rehabilitate prisoners and
instill values like responsibility, trust, leadership, and accountability. The system is working. The
reoffending rate from Bastoy is remarkably low at a mere 16%, which is 4 percentage points
lower than the country of Norway, as a whole. It is clear, when looking at the results of Nilsen s
approach, that the prison has successfully lowered recidivism rates.
All of these traits are vastly different from the US prison system. In general, prison should have
five goals, as described by criminologist Bob Cameron: retribution, incapacitation, deterrence,
restoration, and rehabilitation. In his words though, Americans want their prisoners punished first
and rehabilitated second (Cameron, 2014). Norway adopts a less punitive approach. A 2007 report

Reflection on Erik Erikson s 8 Stages of Psychosocial Development
Stage 5: Adolescence
Adolescence is the fifth stage in Erikson s psychosocial development theory. It is posited to last
from ages 12 to 18, and the basic conflict inherent in the adolescent stage, which the person must
resolve, is between identity and role confusion. This conflict between identity and role confusion
especially plays itself out in peer relationships, but the teenager also navigates through identity and
role confusion with relationships in the family unit. Identity and role confusion issues can arise
with sexuality, as well as worldviews.
Erikson s stages can show how to distinguish between healthy and dysfunctional coping behaviors
that help the individual navigate through the transition of adolescence. Having observed many
adolescents, I can apply Erikson s model of psychosocial development and gain understanding of
the context and variable impacting the individual s psychology and overall health. It can be
especially helpful to compare and contrast two adolescents, one who is addressing the conflict via
strong and healthy coping mechanisms that ensure identity development and ego formation; and
another who struggles to maintain or create a personal identity in the midst of the adolescent
development stage.
One of the first issues that arises when observing adolescents is the difference between those who
remain highly engaged with the world through social interactions and critical

  • 2. The Atomic Bomb Essay In this paper, it will be discussed why the Atomic Bomb is the biggest method of destruction known to man. The paper will be discussing the results of the Atomic Bombs, along with the effects years after the initial explosion. People always wonder how many people actually died in the two Atomic Bombs which were dropped in Japan. This question will be answered, along with the method that citizens were actually killed by the bomb. Besides the initial blast winds that an Atomic Bomb gives off, people may be killed by several other things including heat rays, radiation and the implosion of their home. Robert S. Oppenheimer, was the father of the Atomic Bomb. After Albert Einstein stated that if the Nazi s made a nuclear weaponfirst, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the two bombings there was a large gap in the number of people that died. In Hiroshima the city population at the time of the bombing was 310,000, The estimated deaths was 90,000 140,000 people. As for the Nagasaki bombing, the city population before the bombing was 250,000. The estimated number of deaths was 60,000 80,000 people. Notice that the word, quot;estimated quot;, was used for both amounts of deaths. The reason for this is because, the number of deaths cannot be precisely known because records of military personnel in each city were destroyed. There have been several comparisons between the damage capabilities of the two bombs. First of all, it was said that to achieve maximum blast effect, the bomb had been set to detonate 1800 feet over Hiroshima. This is approximately 548 meters. The bomb in Hiroshima reached a height of 580+/ 15 meters. As for the bomb in Nagasaki, it reached a height of 500+/ 10 meters. The radius in which ceramic roof tiles melted was 600m in the Hiroshima bombing and 1000m in the Nagasaki bombing. The radius in which granite stone melted was 1,000m for the Hiroshima bomb and 1,600m for the Nagasaki bomb. What can be determined from these statistics is that the Nagasaki bomb has much stronger heat rays in it, and in turn would destroy more territory and kill more people. As said earlier in this essay, the location of Nagasaki prevented that. It was said that when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Lab Report On Solid Oxide Fuel Cells ( Sofc ) Abstract In order to decrease the number of cycles of infiltration and maintain a comparable cathode performance, the viability of using a conductive LSF YSZ composite scaffold with one infiltration cycle of LSCF was investigated. XRD patterns of LSF YSZ powder presented that at 1400oC and 1300oC calcination, an obvious shift in LSF peak occurred, indicating Zr doping into LSF and forming a less conductive phase. Different ratios of LSF YSZ scaffolds were tested by impedance spectroscopy with the results showing that the ohmic resistance decreases as the amount of LSF increases, and 1350oC scaffold has a much lower ohmic resistance than the 1400oC one. A pure YSZ cell infiltrated with 35 wt% LSCF was used as reference and by comparing it with a cell composed of 70:30 LSF YSZ scaffold calcined at 1350oC with one cycle of LSCF infiltration, a comparable cell performance both in ohmic and non ohmic parts was achieved. Introduction In solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), the typical cathodes with the best performance are usually composites of the electrolyte oxide and an electronically conductive and catalytically active oxide which is usually a perovskite.1,2 For example, in cells made of yttria stablized zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte, the conventional cathode composite is a mixture of YSZ and Sr doped LaMnO3 (LSM). 1,2 The commonly used YSZ electrolyte oxide in the electrode is to enhance the ionic conductivity, thus increasing the electrochemically active region in the electrode. 1 4 ... • 4. Jazz and the White Critic Jazz and The White Critic The article Jazz and White Critic by Amiri Baraka brings light to an element of jazz criticism that he is frustrated by. Baraka finds controversy in the ideas white critics write about regarding jazz music. Baraka states, Most jazz critics have been white Americans, but most important jazz musicians have not been. In the 1960 s, when Baraka made this statement, jazz was becoming more popularized and socially accepted. African American jazz musicians took a long, strenuous journey over decades to push their music into the spotlight to become one of the most popular music styles in society internationally. The special element of jazz is its raw emotion. Baraka distinguishes between White Jazz , music ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the opposite end of the spectrum within modern jazz critiques falls Everett R. Davis s(an African American) review of Eddie Allen: Push. This critique uses metaphors as well as adjectives and verbs to best describe the journey Allen s music whisks the listener away on. Davis describes fewer technicalities and provides more feeling in his critique. By describing the physical and emotional terms of jazz a reader is as close to the experience of the music as they can get without experiencing it first hand. Davis describes sounds in a trade off solo section; the scream of Allen s trumpet shouting at the keyboard, the lightly taunting elements, and a bass solo that feels like a workout where all instruments break loose. Davis uses sensory images; Sacred Ground follows, beginning with flowing rhythms and a light swing tempo followed with smoothly galloping solos which complement each other. Caress, Who Can I Turn To and With Open Arms are smoother, easily evoking images of easily slipping away and relaxing under a favorite tree on a quiet afternoon. It is critiques like this one that are valuable to the jazz community. It is important to evoke emotions through words when talking about jazz. Integra grew through an acquisition model of 47 different businesses, combined to form the ILS entity. Acquisitions of new products were designed to complement or enhance the sales representative s bag of surgical offerings. This enterprise approach supports Integra s strategic intent to serve as a one stop shop for surgical products. This U.S. regulation serves as a set of business requirements designed to assure companies operate in a state of compliance. This state of compliance helps to support safe and effective patient outcomes. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) govern this set of requirements through routine inspections designed to determine a company s conformance. Failure to comply can result in fines and/or a loss of distribution privileges within the U.S. Working in a highly regulated industry such as medical devices, puts additional burden on the managing organization s ability to manage operations and promote products and services. The right people can help differentiate one organization from the next. Organizations and businesses can emulate successful companies. They are able to make their buildings look the same. They can set up the offices and organizations the same. They can use the same equipment and manufacturing processes, however all of this imitation does not guarantee a successful outcome. The one element that cannot be imitated is the people. Ultimately patents run out, competitors can imitate products, and competition in a profitable business segment increases. Successful ... A photodiode is generally the main component of a receiver. The components used in the receiver are: 1.Photodiode 2.Amplifiers. 3.Low pass filters The front end: Simulates a photodiode and preamplifier. The frequency response is specified by the filter transfer function. The equivalent input noise of the amplifier can be added to the Thermal Noise of the photodiode. These three helps us in forming the front end of the receiver. The back end of the receiver consists of: 1.Amplifier 2.Low pass filter 3.Inverter The back end: Simulates the main amplifier and the channel filter of the receiver. The transfer function of the channel filter is specified in the Filtered module. Photodiode: The photodiode present at the receiver helps in converting the incident photons into electrons. Generally, the two most used photodiodes are the Pin Photodiode Avalanche Photodiode In a PIN Photodiode, electron hole pairs are generated due to the absorption of photons. The Avalanche Photodiode is very similar to the PIN diode, but the reverse bias voltage applied to this diode is very high. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We live in the cinematic age as they call it, and in this time it is quite difficult to have positive influences as the world faces destruction, neglect, and hatred. As a little boy not understanding the world, I would have assumed that most people were somewhat influential. However, as I aged into the young man I am today, I understand that being influential persontakes a certain individual. An individual who has the moral code of willingness to help others effectively while asking for nothing in return but their happiness. Besides my parents and some family members I can simply say with all that is occurring in our time, there is not one person I can truly admire today. In the modern culture we are surrounded by today, there are a few people who are inspirations to others, such as Bill Gates, Taylor Swift, Emma Watson, Warren Buffett, and a few others. These individuals dedicated their life into accomplishing what they have today. However, although these individuals are certainly an inspiration to the next generation of kids, I find that they do not posses all the qualities of trying to build a better future. As a little boy my grandparents would always talk to me about a certain individual who has influenced their lives. • 9. Dante s Vengeance The idea of one s station in life has always been debated throughout the times, whether it is in the form of the Great Chain of Being during the classical period or the modern day debate of gene therapy and its ethics. Alexandre Dumas was first exposed to the concept of trying to usurp the natural order of things on the day his father died. He wrote in his memoirs that he wanted to kill God, who killed Daddy (Reiss 13) which is an example of wanting to rise beyond one s position and believing oneself to be more powerful than God. In the Count of Monte Cristo, the protagonist Dantes was unjustly accused of treason and was imprisoned in Chateau d If. After befriending a rich Italian abbe, who then bequeathed Dantes a vast fortune and escaping,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The literature he alludes to and the characters all follow a recurring theme of attempting to gain supernatural power and disregarding the preexisting systems in favor of one s own. To begin, Dumas alludes to the Shakespeare play Julius Caesar on the eve of the duel between Dantes and Albert he states he experienced the same thing that happened to Brutus the night before the battle of Philippi; [he] [had] seen a ghost. (Dumas 362). Furthermore, McDermott further compares Dates to Brutus since like Brutus before Philippi, he says, he too on the eve of his duel with Alben has seen a franconi, В· in the form of Mercedes (McDermott 94). Brutus in Julius Caesar commits regicide by killing Julius Caesar in a misguided intention of doing what s best for rome. Just like how Dantes chooses to reward and punish in a misguided intention of righting past wrongs and repaying past debts, what ends up occurring is a series of events that are caused by his own actions. This again shows arrogance on the parts of both parties. Brutus feels that his view should be the view of all the Roman people and feels that because he views Caesar as unfair he must take action without consulting any of his other people. Furthermore, he upsets the Great Chain of Being by committing regicide, the people should be subservient to their leader but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A martyr is someone who dies for what they believe in, just like Maximilian Kolbe. Raymund Maximilian Kolbe was born January 8, 1894. He was born in Zdunska Wola, in Poland. Both parents, Marianna and Juliusz, were very holy, and dedicated much of their time and money to teach their children about the catholic faith. (Gale BIC, 2) They were both poor weavers, who traded with Jewish merchants. From a young age, Maximilian was very fond of his faith. He enjoyed church, and loved to pray. In 1907, Max and his brothers decided to move to an all boys Franciscan school. Their mother was supportive of this decision, because she wanted to shield the boys from the other sex. When he turned sixteen in 1910, he was going to join the army, but his mother thought he was fit for the priesthood. (Gale BIC, 4) So, Kolbe relented, and in 1912, arrived in Rome, and spend the next seven years their, learning an becoming a priest. Life in a small town seems to go by very slowly. It s all about what you make out of it. Certain events and certain people have influenced me in a way that has made me a better person. The character of one s self is built from all the hard times we go through in life, not always off of the easy ones. My father has had a major influence on me during the course of my life, thus far. My dad was in the Marine Corps before I was born. He was always strict with me with every aspect of my life and has always pushed me to be a better person. Growing up, I would see him get up early and come home late from work. He is a very hard working man and I hope I develop at least half of his working abilities. He has taught me the majority of what I know now. He is a very smart man and it s great to have a role model like that as my father. My mother always played a more studious role in my life. Risking your life for treasure isn t worth it, it s also not what being a true hero is really about. Definition of a hero summed into my own words a person who does selfless acts without thought of reward. In the Story Of Beowulf all Beowulf wanted was accolades, because of that Beowulf died selfishly instead of dying as a true hero. Living a more modest life as a hero gets you remembered no matter what you did, Neil Armstrong was the first guy to step foot on the moon; even though he did such a big thing or big leap for the future of the country he still lived a very humble life, thirty years later he s still remembered like it happened yesterday. When you seek accolades you re the one losing, Beowulf seeked accolades his whole life and he also lost his life fighting a dragon for some treasure, that really wasn t worth it, it just doesn t make him a true hero, the dragon was not hurting anyone he risked his life for the treasure and not the people which brings me back to my point you shouldn t seek accolades because it does not make you the true hero, the real reward is the feeling of helping the person in need or doing the extraordinary at the end of the day that s all that really matters. • 14. Describe The Importance Of The Colosseum The Colosseum Koch, Matt Do you know what one of the most important structures to mankind history is? The Colosseum. The importance of the Colosseum, otherwise known originally as the Flavian Amphitheatre, was that many of the materials, styles, and architecture were inspiring to many architects and designers constructing today s modern facilities and structures. The emperor of Rome at the time, Vespasian, began building the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre) in 72 AD. They believed that in ancient Rome the patron was more noble and loyal than the architects, and the architects were just craftsmen and hired hands (Woog, 2014). So as of today the designers and architects are unknown to the world, and will probably never be found out about because if limited evidence. Floor plans, 3 dimensional scale models, perspective drawings, and full size design sketches are what were used by the anonymous architects and designers of the Colosseum (Hopkins, 2011). The site of construction was formerly known as the Golden House, owned and lived in by Nero the Emperor. This was drained and as a precaution against potential earthquake damage concrete foundations six metres deep were put down to support it (Cartwright, 2012). And eight long years of hard work and design later the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre) was completed in 80 CE. There were many materials mixed in the project of constructing the Colosseum (Flavian Amphitheatre). The walls of the Colosseum were built with stone. They made use of a number of arches in order to keep the weight down, but yet still keep them strong (Cartwright, 2012). The floor of the Colosseum was wooden and usually covered in sand most of the time. But the floor was taken out due to heavy weathering in 1674 AD. And about 19 miles outside of Rome in a little town of Tivoli were quarries where the Romans mined there stone blocks out of to construct the walls of the Colosseum. Some other material they had used to construct the colosseum include, limestone brick, concrete and volcanic stone (otherwise known as tufa ), pumice stone. And including bronze, which was used for statues around the stadium. But some parts of the colosseum that are made of concrete are not authentic original to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Appiah The Ethics Of Identity Written by Ghanaian American philosopher Kwame Anthony Appiah, The Ethics of Identity distinctively examines the true meanings of heavy and often abstract social topics such as individuality and identity by constantly referring to John Stuart Mill s philosophical yet liberal concepts and ideas. Although the book contains a narrative side, it also has a formation of arguments that precisely present Appiah s points. The idea that we search and pursue our individuality in the world that shapes us is one that Appiah tends to focus on throughout the text. In relation to the idea of identity, this essay will explore and connect Appiah and Mill s views on this idea to one of, if not the most, influential musical composers in history: Ludwig Van... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Basically, a selfish form of individualism is possible, and some people may have an identity that only benefits their own desires. One may consider Beethoven s personal individuality to be rather selfish. Sure, Beethoven influenced music as he made it transition from the classical era to the romantic era, and he was the bridge between the two worlds. However, it is arguable that he composed his well known and ground breaking music only to satisfy himself as he was an unmarried man who always lived alone His lack of normal interaction made him a miserable man. The clear connection between Beethoven s deafness and Appiah is that sometimes identity is a concept that we can t always choose. It can sometimes come to us as we continue on with life, so we have to accept our fate. An example of this would be when Appiah mentioned how John Mill fell in love with a married woman named Harriet Taylor. She understood him because she, herself, was also a philosopher. Mill and Taylor had a platonic relationship that lasted for 20 years, but after her husband died, they lived together as a man and a woman by marriage for a few decades. Furthermore, although Beethoven fell in love with multiple young women (who were his music students), the most notable one was yet another married woman named Antonie Brentano. She was the only woman as far as we know ever to return Beethoven s love. This brings me to the point that both Beethoven and Mill didn t choose who they fell in love with. Nobody would have planned to fall in love with another man s wife and spend the next two decades in a nerve racking mГ©nage Г trois. (6). Appiah is saying that sometimes plans that an individual makes in life don t always work out. They can go against a person s true, and falling in love is something one can t ... • 17. Analysis Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh The poem The Epic of Gilgamesh is considered to be the first documented work of literature, which originated in Uruk, a city state located along the channel of the Euphrates River in Sumer. The Sumerians were the first civilization in Mesopotamia to devise a system of written language, which consisted of wedge shaped characters that were inscribed in clay tablets. This system of writing is known as cuneiform, and it was used to record The Epic of Gilgamesh. Throughout this epic poem, Gilgamesh, the king and ruler of Uruk, encounters a number of religious figures that sheds light upon the history and culture of the Mesopotamians. It is apparent from the start of the poem, that the people of Uruk centered their entire lifestyle around the many deities of the polytheistic Sumerian religion. Gilgamesh himself was the son of the goddess Ninsun and king Lugulbanda, and was considered to be one third human, and two thirds god. Gilgamesh also encounters Utnapanishtim, who was gifted with immortality from the gods after serving as a heroic savior during a great flood, in which the biblical story of Noah s Ark alludes to. Furthermore, The Epic of Gilgamesh is one of the most significant literary works in history; it has influenced and shaped the course of western literature, in molding the first archetypes of an epic hero, and in its use of literary devices. Generally, people who are schooled in the United States are first introduced to the concept of an epic hero, and the use of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Essay On Why I Deided To Not Go On The Trip Why I Decided to Not Go on the Trip It was actually a pretty simple decision. I woke up the Monday before the trip weekend drenched with sweat. Constant nightmares really have an effect on your sweat glands.I groaned and rolled over on my side. I didn t want to be the bad guy, but everyone had deemed me the evil crook. I also didn t want to be mean to August Pullman, but it was my defense mechanism.I dragged myself from the blankets that had lost their haven long ago. My parents must have left earlier that morning. Cereal was the best thing I could whip up now. I chewed slowly, trying to stall time. I couldn t be late again, though. My mom never stopped badgering me about it the last time.... In the end, I resulted in just curling up on the ground and shrieking with him. No matter how many times I tried scratching the tortured sounds out of my ears, it stayed. I jolted out of my desk and fell with a thump on the linoleum floor. I heard muffled giggles and outright laughing. The sounds blended and the wailing started again. I looked around frantically at all the delighted faces. My eyes finally stopped on the steel desk again. My expression was dazed and shocked at the same time. My eyes staring wide and frightened gasps ripping out of my chest. I looked around at the blur of faces again and buried my face in my arms. Just make it go away, I think. I feel cold, but sure, hands pat my shoulders and a kind voice asking if I needed to go to the nurse. I felt myself nod numbly and Ms. Petosa escorted me to the clinic. I sat down on the edge of the clinic bed and started shivering. This is where the unstoppable sweating and uncontrollable tremors started. The nurse checked my temperature and felt my pulse. We find different outlooks, styles and sometimes we may even change our personality, or maturity level. My choices over the course of this semester have changed me for the better. I started this class oblivious to the norms and traditions of a college English class. I must admit that for the first few weeks I was shocked at how different college is from my simple high schoolEnglish course. I now have a different outlook on life. At the beginning of the semester I wasn t sure whether or not I wanted to further my education at a four year university, or successfully complete my AA degree and then enter a police academy. I can now say that I know my path and I can t wait to walk it, I m glad that this change has happened in my life. Additionally, the next thing that has changed is my maturity level. I didn t take this class as serious as I should have in the beginning and my grade reflected that. I changed my attitude toward the course by concentrating more on the instructions and making sure that I followed them to the best of my ability. I wrote about the emotion desire in an essay earlier this semester, while I do feel this emotion daily there is another emotion that stays prevalent in my mind. However, BP decided to bank a saving of $150,000 and just repair the blowdown drum, because capital expenditure was very tight (Schorn). According to many experts, this savings was the direct cause of the 2005 explosion. On March 23, 2005, BP employees began restarting a unit that had been down for repairs. The blowdown drum began to fill with gasoline, but it overflowed and sent a geyser of gasoline into the air (PBS: Frontline). The cloud of gas created from the drum was ignited by an idle truck. The whiteness of Ahab, Ishmael, and other sailors, and the lack of whiteness of Queequeg, and the whiteness of nonhuman components, like the whale and the ship, address the subject of race. Melville uses the motif of whiteness and the lack of whiteness to convey the theme that the white man s reign in American is ultimately doomed. To fully understand Melville s view on whiteness and race, one can look towards other literary authors and their personal descriptions of Herman Melville. Toni Morrison describes Melville as an African Americanist...on white supremacist culture (Levine 9 10). Because Melville did not believe in the supremacy of the white man, one can determine that Melville also did not believe the white man should be above all other races. Lawrence, after reading Moby Dick, writes that Melville predicted the doom of the white man in America. Melville knew. He knew his race was doomed. His white soul, doomed. He great white epoch, doomed. Himself doomed (160). Lawrence supports his argument with the sinking of the Pequod because this ship belonged to Ahab, the white American man. Not only does the novel discuss racism and it s effect on the black community, but it discusses the unrealistic expectations of beauty in our society. Even the title of the novel The Bluest Eye displays a stereotypical viewpoint of beauty. For example in the story Pecola Breedlove yearns to have blue eyes. She hopes that one day she will be able to transform, and therefore be loved by others because of her new blue eyes. Eventually, Pecola goes crazy, thinking that she has the bluest eyes. Toni Morrison discussing an issue such as racism and unrealistic beauty standards is surely not what I call a safe call, but instead, a bold and intimidating one. Personally, this felt like a way of describing what happens to a person who wants to change themselves physically and becomes distorted in the process...because it is, in fact, unrealistic to drastically change one s appearance. • 47. What Are The Benefits Of The Reunification Of Germany The fall of the Berlin Wall and reunification of Germany is seen by many as one of the iconic events of the twentieth century. As iconic as it was, it would also prove to be highly consequential as issues surfaced once East and West Germany joined together. Although some people have been critical and believe that reunification should have been executed differently, the importance of this event in history cannot be understated. The reunification of Germanywas an inevitable that was bound to happen at some point since the initial division of Germany. Reunification at the soonest time possible was the policy of the four nations that had control over Germany, however events following Germany s initial division postponed this possibility. Under communism, East Germany boasted a fully employed workforce, upwards of eighty percent of East German women were employed, and excellent social programs were available to the public such as free child care. Many of these benefits were compromised upon reunification. It would have been beneficial for the West German negotiators to recognize the positive aspects that the East German economy possessed and should have try to implement revised versions of their own. Property rights would also become a central issue for a unified Germany. Because of East Germany s policy of expropriating property, millions of Germans lost their land and desired the return or compensation of their property. Over two million cases were filed by German citizens and to this day not all of the cases have been sorted through yet. The TREUHAND would be created to help with solving these cases, however this organization would prove to riddled by corruption. Members of the TREUHAND would act fraudulently and misallocate property and funds to the wrong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. Criminal Justice System Based on those statistics, it s safe to believe that Norway s criminal justice system is doing something right. The few citizens that go to prison usually only go once. How does Norway achieve this? The country relies on a method called restorative justice, which aims to repair the harm caused by crimerather than punish people. This system is purely focused on rehabilitating prisoners. The United States, on the other hand, places focus on incarceration and incapacitation. This is where the methodologies clash: should the criminal justicesystem be responsible for rehabilitating its citizens? The Norwegian government certainly thinks so. They accomplish their goal through a system of normalcy; for Norway, removing people s freedom is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If we treat people like animals when they are in prison they are likely to behave like animals. Here we pay attention to you as human beings (Sterbenz, 2014). Bastoy has been labeled one of the most liberal prisons in the world. Prisoners and guards actually work as a team, tending to farm animals and chopping wood for the winter. They play cards, ski, cook, and take classes. Under Nilsen s tenue, Bastoy, has received increasing global attention...for the humane conditions under which the prisoners live in houses rather than cells in what resembles a cosy self sustaining village (James, 2013). Bastoy was an experiment, and Norwegian officials hoped that it would rehabilitate prisoners and instill values like responsibility, trust, leadership, and accountability. The system is working. The reoffending rate from Bastoy is remarkably low at a mere 16%, which is 4 percentage points lower than the country of Norway, as a whole. It is clear, when looking at the results of Nilsen s approach, that the prison has successfully lowered recidivism rates. All of these traits are vastly different from the US prison system. In general, prison should have five goals, as described by criminologist Bob Cameron: retribution, incapacitation, deterrence, restoration, and rehabilitation. In his words though, Americans want their prisoners punished first and rehabilitated second (Cameron, 2014). Norway adopts a less punitive approach. A 2007 report on recidivism by the US ... PROGRESS TO DATE As a medium of mass communication and also as an industry, the changing relationship between newspapers and readers is part of this upheaval. This is because newspapers are poised at the edge of a significant change in their operation and role. The first newspaper in Malaysia was the Prince of Wales Island Gazette, published in Penang in 1805 and begun by the British. When Malayan was under the hands of the British in 1968, the government developed restrictive policies toward the press. The reason is that they feared the spread of communism in Malayan. Even in Scout s earliest memories, Calpurnia has always been around. Calpurnia taught the kids to read like she had taught her own son to read. She does not go easy on Jem and Scout lake any other mother. One example was when Scout was disrespecting Walter Cunningham even though he was a guest over for dinner. Calpurnia pulled Scout away from the table and reprimanded her for not treating Walter as company. Like any other good mother, Calpurnia comforts and spends lots of time with the kids. When Jem was growing up and leaving Scout behind, Jem lashed out at Scout and told her she had to start acting like a girl. Usually, it is in response to a particular incident demanding termination, prosecution, letter of resignation, etc. of those involved. Likewise, there could be a reaction to a decision that was made to prosecute or not prosecute. With these demonstrations and protests, law enforcement needs to be trained appropriately to de escalate or to let them protest if it s nonviolent. As well, you need to ensure that you have an identified person within the department to make sure that the action plan is in place but more importantly they are trained effectively to crowd control methods. ... • 53. A Reflection of Stage 5 of Erik Erikson s 8 Stages of... Reflection on Erik Erikson s 8 Stages of Psychosocial Development Stage 5: Adolescence Adolescence is the fifth stage in Erikson s psychosocial development theory. It is posited to last from ages 12 to 18, and the basic conflict inherent in the adolescent stage, which the person must resolve, is between identity and role confusion. This conflict between identity and role confusion especially plays itself out in peer relationships, but the teenager also navigates through identity and role confusion with relationships in the family unit. Identity and role confusion issues can arise with sexuality, as well as worldviews. Erikson s stages can show how to distinguish between healthy and dysfunctional coping behaviors that help the individual navigate through the transition of adolescence. Having observed many adolescents, I can apply Erikson s model of psychosocial development and gain understanding of the context and variable impacting the individual s psychology and overall health. It can be especially helpful to compare and contrast two adolescents, one who is addressing the conflict via strong and healthy coping mechanisms that ensure identity development and ego formation; and another who struggles to maintain or create a personal identity in the midst of the adolescent development stage. One of the first issues that arises when observing adolescents is the difference between those who remain highly engaged with the world through social interactions and critical ...
