Persuasive Speech On Child Soldiers
Is it known to the billions in this world, of the many who are unfairly tortured? Thousands and
thousands of people are tormented, and living a difficult life. Of these thousands, are child
soldiers. Child soldiers experience awful wars with bloodshed, which no child should ever
experience. The Middle East, where most children are recruited, is filled with cities of rubble.
Children living in this environment can t go to school, starve and may even be abandoned or
separated from their parents. Being in war, child soldiers commit crimes each and every time they
land a foot on the battlefield. Is this their choice? Is it considered fun for them to play with
weapons? Should they be forgiven for their actions? Child soldiers should be given amnesty... Show

Viewers who support not forgiving child soldiers say child soldiers need to learn that what they
did was wrong and by sending them to tough camps like Guantanamo Bay, they will have time to
understand their mistakes. However, keeping these children in an as equal harsh environment will
only trigger there actions to go and further violate laws. Like said previously, Omar Khadr, a child
soldier now living in Guantanamo Bay, went on to murder U.S Army Sgt. First Class
Christopher Speer. Despite that fact that others believe there are many children who choose to
become a soldier, there is always are driving factor which possibly may seem like a children s
choice. In other words, this claim is untrue. Children not only become child soldiers because they
are abandoned by their parents, or are forced, sometimes the parents have little money and send
their kids off. The parents can t keep up with bills or feeding the family, so their only hope to
make money is deporting their children for the maximum pay of $1.50. This situation of send off
may look like the child chose to be in the military, but this is inaccurate. Lastly, critics argue child
soldiers are better fighters than adult soldiers.

The Key Of Effective Leadership
The Key to Effective Leadership Insights Gained I have ascertained that utilizing mental
models, I can understand why and how different people on the same team process similar
occurrences in a different manner. A mental model is a set of ideas and assumptions that you
carry in your head (Bolman, Deal, 2013, p. 10). These mental models that we rely on as an
interpretation, influence our understanding of world and organizational events, because they
reflect our current mind sets. For example, a mental model that is prevalent in the army, is that
your appearance reflects your potential. This may cause others to judge soldiers initially, by
their appearance. If they are overweight, or their appearance looks disheveled, they are often
initially seen as being undisciplined. Changing our mental models can directly change our
understanding of events, because we can perceive things differently, and also then identify other
root causes, or resolutions. In my example, if one realizes that a newly assigned soldier may not
be completely situated in a home and community as yet, that perhaps they do not have access to
the resources that they may need, to present the best appearance, such as a good barber. A leader
could recognize this as a need to provide more community familiarization, or access to resources.
By exploring mental, models Senge (2006) recognizes that one can create a reflection in the work
environment and, by doing so, encourage a more open discussion, and expose the

The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry
No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution
and sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists,
composers, and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly
negative for professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to
the changing atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We ve seen
music change form from physical, tangible products like records and CD s to electronic single
tracks stored in an invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music
stores (specifically iTunes) and file sharingwebsites that allow music to be downloaded illegally.
Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have
plummeted in the United States from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to
the Recording Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time
consumers were buying more music than ever. How is that possible? It s because iTunes had
made digital singles popular and was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry
forever. In 2000, Americans bought 943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn t even
make a dent in comparison. But by 2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide
margin, generating 819 million sales compared to just 500 million for the CD.

Dorothy Parker Addiction
Authors who were Addicts; Writing Style Depicted Stephen King, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Dorothy
Parker; all renowned writers with a large fan base, however, what many do not correlate to these
particular authors is that they also suffered from addiction. Addiction is defined as a mental
disorder that establishes a dependence on any given substance which can internally and externally
affect a person. Addictionimpacts a person s relationships, mental capability, and even someone s
will to live. When observing an author s writing, they are usually prone to embed parts of their life
in their pieces, whether this is through characterization, tone, theme, or diction. All of these are a
part of writing style, in which the way an author writes is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Depression is one of the many mental illnesses that writers are diagnosed with, more
specifically, Dorothy Parker. Although Parker was also an addict, she also was excessively
depressed, and in so, many argue that her depression was a larger contributor to her writing rather
than her addiction to alcohol. Many people write to cope with their depression, in which many
people correlate this factor to Parker specifically. A writer, Janna Marlies Maron, discusses, But I
wrote emotional rants. Diatribes about how awful life was and how horrible I felt. What an
untalented, unskilled, unlucky, unlovable, un everything person I am (Maron). In many of Parker s
short stories, she embeds her negative experiences into her writing style. Parker s short story, A
Telephone Call, displays the narrator as a woman who is waiting for a male to call her, in which
she becomes obsessive. Parker is similar in this case from the many articles stating that all of
her marriages were not successful. Parker is viewed to have written many of her short stories
based on her depression, to where writing allowed for her to confront her present negative
experiences. Although these are accurate depictions, an author s writing can still be heavily
influenced by their addiction because it is a large part of their life. When reflecting back on
King, Parker, and Fitzgerald, the abusing of substances can backtrack to past negative
experiences and can also increase someone s vulnerability to depression. In more words, Alcohol
makes depression worse, and can even cause depression in some instances...As a depressed person
drinks to cope with their depression, the alcohol ends up making them even more depressed, and
they ll need to drink even more ( The Link Between Depression and Alcoholism ). Alcoholism can

A Brief Note On Educational Leadership Research Seminar

Professor Bulkley October 22, 2014 Introduction During the 2013 2014 school year, 63% of
students were two or more years below grade level in ELA. These students demonstrated the
need for additional support in reading comprehension in order to effectively analyze data. In
addition, 17% of students had at least three of the following risks factors: 1) two or more years
over age for grade level, 2) chronically absent, 3) two or more years partially proficient in ELA. In
obtaining the school s instructional goals, the most compelling achievement gaps are found in male

They have not experienced much outside their immediate neighborhood and cannot afford the
luxuries of experiencing many opportunities to develop economically, socially and emotionally.
Poverty issues do not allow students and communities to have the necessary resources and
materials for effective learning. Students are not exposed to up to date technology and lack the
motivation and encouragement from positive role models who are educated. Fantuzzo,
LeBoeuf, Rouse Chen (2012) conducted a research task recognizing an achievement gap
between Blacks and Whites. This study took place within a large urban public school district
similar to ours and examined risks believed could be the cause of the problem of low
achievement in Black students. Some of the root causes posed were poverty and socio familial
risks led to poor academic outcomes. Black children who were maltreated, had high lead
exposure, uneducated parents or were born premature experienced under achievements in reading
and math. The research called for a collective effort. The school and community needed to act to
ensure race, gender, and place matter in educational policy. Black boys are in need of positive
school experiences within their communities, families and schools. Evidently, this is more than an
academic problem it s a social problem! Many schools in this same situation are focusing on being
a culturally responsive school. Newark Tech staff

Price
Two main approaches:   Start ups used low price models to establish customer base Existing
firms transferred existing prices to the web
Customers have focus on price and often use price comparison engines kelkoo, pricerunner, and the
Danish EDBpriser
However, only 8% are aggressive price shoppers!
Place
The internet has large implications on place mainly because of global reach. This can lead to
channel conflicts: A communication channel only
  Particularly when manufacturers offer an exclusive, or highly selective distribution
approach; e.g., Rolex watches The choice of distribution channel may dilute brand image
A distribution channel to intermediaries A direct sales channel to customers
   May not be appropriate when prices vary geographical areas; no existing contracts
/agreements; low pre sales and after sales support
Any combination of the above
 Sales representatives may be threatened, however they are important for generating leads

John Coltrane Characteristics
Despite a relatively short career, John Coltrane was among the most influential, and most
controversial figures in jazz. He pioneered many important directions and developments in jazz in
the 1950s and 1960s including hard bop, modal jazz and free jazz. Coltrane was also known for his
virtuosic ability in improvising. He has such command over his instrument that many other players
tried to imitate his sound on the tenor saxophone, though only a few could approach his technical
mastery. Coltrane s creative output can be marked by three periods of distinct stylistic personality
where each period demonstrates characteristic stylistic evolutions in Coltrane s musical language.

His musical development from this period can be subdivided into three. First, his association and
apprenticeship with the jazz trumpeter Miles Davis, who was once again active and about to form a
quintet after several years of decline in activity and reputation, due to his struggles with heroin.
The quintet, also known as Davis First Great Quintet , which, in addition to Miles Davis and John
Coltrane, consisted of pianist Red Garland, bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Philly Joe Jones.
His association with the Miles Davis quintet led to his first major breakthrough in their first album
for the record label Columbia, Round About Midnight (1955). This particular album on which
Coltrane was featured, indicates that he had indeed been influenced by the cool style of Miles
Davis. Throughout the album, Coltrane s playing has a restrained but refined and pretty sound that
is characteristic of the cool style of jazz. Coltrane was later fired for his unreliability in
performance due to his alcohol and drug

Code Talker Essay
In the story Code Talker by Joseph Bruchac it has multiple settings in the the U.S and some
overseas. Most of the settings in this book take place all around america. The theme of this story
of this story is excitement and war. The reason one might think that that is the theme is because
at the beginning of the book Ned Begay is about to leave on his way to boarding school and he is
very excited and happy but once he leaves he starts to miss his mother and father. Once Ned go
to the boarding school he found out very quickly that he didn t like. Ned had been caught

and a couple of other Navajos were picked to go to code school. So yet again Ned was leaving to
go to another school. After they got to the school they went through bootcamp then learned how
to speak the code and then off to war they went. In this story the conflict is man .vs. society.
What started it all was when the japanese came over and bombed Pearl Harbor which caused the

The Education Of The United States Essay
The Education Revolution
Currently, the United States is ranked 14th in its educational standard, 17th in educational
performance and 24th in literacy (Mark). Compared to the rest of the world, we are behind
countries like Poland, China, Finland and New Zealand. For a country that prides itself on its
successful western society, what is stopping us from having an education system to match the
standards we have put on the rest of our amenities. However, a solution is closer than it seems.
According to Rasmussen College, there are 6.7 million students currently enrolled in online
courses, therefore with an increasing number of students attending these classes, it is not a question
on whether or not these classes will become normal, but when and how these classes will
revolutionize our education system (Bird). Online courses offer students the ability to create an
education based around their schedule, and allow students who may struggle or may not be able to
attend a traditional school environment the chance to have an equal education. Not only can the
students benefit from an online education environment, but both schools and professors can gain
from an online system. Moreover, such courses can help create a global education system that
allows anyone to have the same access to an education anywhere in the world as long as they have a
connection to the internet.
Online classes allow students to create a flexible schedule for students with jobs and busy home
lives and can

Diabetes Mellitus As A Metabolic Disease
Diabetes Mellitus is a metabolic disease; when the body struggles to produce any or enough
insulin (Mayo Clinic, 2015). Lack of insulin causes elevated levels of glucose in the blood.
Today it is common to hear Diabetes Mellitus referred to as Sugar or Diabetes . Diabetes can be
distinguished into two forms; type one and type two. Diabetes is one of the ten leading cause of
death in the United States. There is a wide range of risk factors that contribute to this metabolic
disease. For example; genetics, poor diet, race, or a combination of these factors can be a
contribution to the specific disease. There is no cure for diabetes type one or two, but it can be

It is usually diagnosed during adulthood after the age of forty, but today it has been found
among children. It is commonly found among children today, because of the rise of obese
children. Many people may suffer from diabetes type two, but are unaware of it. This is because
unlike diabetes type one; individuals with type two does not show any symptoms. It is believed
that type two diabetes is a may also be a hereditary factor, but it is generally found in obese,
sedentary adults, people experiencing pregnancy, and stress are predisposing factors. Both
diseases are equally as dangerous they can lead to the amputation of limbs, heart disease, or loss
of eyesight (WebMD, 2015). Diabetes is considered to be prevalent among today s society; it falls
seventh of the ten leading causes of death in the United States. As recent as the year 2012 statistics
shows 21.0 million Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes while approximately 8.1 million
individuals remain undiagnosed, according to (American Diabetes Association). In the year of
2010, diabetes was found among approximately 303,122 deaths alone. Statistics shows the rates of
diagnoses of diabetes are relatively high among American Indians/ Alaskan Natives, Non Hispanic
blacks, and Hispanics. American Indians/Alaskan Natives represent a 15.9% diagnosed with
diabetes while Non Hispanic Blacks represent 13.2% and Hispanics representing 12.8% (American

Process Essay On Nails
Sometimes all a girl needs is a little boost of confidence. Some girls find that in a new outfit,
others find it in a new hairstyle. However, the most effective way to feel better about yourself is a
fresh set of acrylic nails. To get the perfect nails, the nail technician will prepare your nails, apply
the acrylic, and paint on the color of your choice.
Preparing your nails is crucial in the process of getting the best set of acrylic nails. In the first step,
the nail technician will remove any old nail polish using acetone and cotton balls. Next, they will
trim down your real nails. This provides a good base for the acrylic. To provide the ideal surface,
the nail technician will file the surface of your nails and push back your cuticles. After this, they
will apply a nail primer. The primer usually contains vitamins and will help protect your nails from
damage. After these steps are complete, applying the acrylic is the next step. ... Show more content

The first step is choosing the correct size plastic tips to fit your nails. Once the nail technician
gets the right size, they will use a dab of nail glue to secure it to the ends of your nails. Next, you
will choose your length, and the nail technician will cut it down. If the tip looks crooked, they
will file it back to perfection. Once your tips are how you want them to be, the nail technician
will load a small paintbrush with acrylic solution. Afterwards, they will dip the wet brush into the
powder. This combination on the brush creates a gel like substance that will be painted onto your
nail and the tips that were placed on earlier. After around a five minute drying time, filing and
shaping may be necessary. Once the shape is flawless, you are ready for the last step in getting the

Police Relations with Minority Ethnic Communities Essay
Police Relations with Minority Ethnic Communities
The Macpherson report was published in 1999 amidst problems of racial inequality and a lack of
faith in the police amongst minority ethnic communities. There is an ongoing debate on whether
Macpherson s report was a help or a hindrance with regards to minority ethnic relations and the
police; it is this dispute that the essay shall examine. To begin with the paper will look at the
problems, which existed prior to Sir William Macpherson s publication and which led to the
publication of his report. It will then proceed to examine the failures of the Scarman report, in

The Bradford riots in 1995, and other public outcries showed the growing animosity that was
being felt toward the police by minority ethnic communities. Another factor, which led the
opinions of minority ethnic citizens of the police to become additionally hostile, is the ever
advancing statistical and research evidence of racism within the police force. In 1978 Stuart
Hall et al showed most clearly how, largely on the basis of pre existing stereotypes minority
ethnic people (in particular black people) were being criminalized and subjected to extraordinary
policing and punishment. Both these factors increased the feelings of hatred for the police
amongst minority ethnic communities. This was then furthered by the subsequent failings of the
Scarman report. These included his failure to explain properly in his report the main reason why
black people were so angry with the police this was to do with the oppressive policing that they
were being subjected to. He was unsuccessful in looking at police powers (particularly stop and
search) (Bridges 1982, Howe 1988 cited in Bowling et al 2002) and most importantly he failed to
take a proper account of institutional racism . Consequently because of the growing

Child Labor During The Progressive Era
During the progressive era the conditions of the factories that children worked in were extremely
brutal. Children Worked in very hot factories and some were only at the age of 4 ( Child Labor

the factories. This means that there were sweaty, hot children working 16 hours a day. In the book

Essay about Dante’s Version of Hell
In Dante s Inferno, we followed Dante as he narrates his decent and observations of hell. A
wonderful part of that depiction is his descriptions of the creative yet cruel punishments that each
of the different sinners receive. This story is an integral part of literary history, and even if I were
to have the imagination and ability of Dante Alighieri, I don t believe I would change this tried and
true version known universally.
Since I have the desire to maintain the validity of Dante s version of hell in its entirety, I will
explain the parts I found most intriguing, and why.
His use of incredible and descript wording was impressive. Dante narrates the vile stench in which
groups of men were chained to the hard floors, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sometimes, the guards would throw a bucket of water over the stones to cleanse them; there were
however, prisoners underneath the other prisoners and the water would wash all of the excrement
and bodily fluids down through grates and drip onto the bodies of the standing prisoners who dare
not lie down and could not stand up because of the vile filth on them and around their feet
(Cantor). These are only a few descriptions of the various practices of cruelty.
The first sin that Dante describes is heresy. The penalty in the medieval era for heresy was often
public humiliation, imprisonment or to suffer death by burning. (Cantor). The punishment for the
arch heretics and those who followed them was that they be ensepulchered and to have some
heated more, some less. (Alighieri). These red hot sepulchers served as a punishment for the
heretics, causing burns. The archheretics firmly believed that everything died with the body
therefore there was no soul. So, they were punished with the hot and crowded pokers, but they
were also punished with their beliefs and they were allowed to feel what it s like to die eternally
and lie and wait until the apocalypse. This punishment is one in that was more focused on inflicting
a physical and bodily pain rather than a mental one.
Another sin whose punishment was administered with the full intention of causing great harm was
flattery.

The Puritans Religious Beliefs
Critics often paint the Puritans as a miserable people, whose only concern was protecting
themselves from the outside world. This, however, is not the only supposed offense the Puritans
committed. These critics then protest that the Puritans, fixated on their desire of creating a skewed
reality, eagerly stripped away any right one had that might contradict this delusional existence!
Contrary to this opinion, the Massachusettscolony proved to be a community knitted together in
their longing to serve God and desire to know their God given liberties on these controversial issues
of their day: marriages and families; physical labors and charitable activities; and finally, education
and government.
First, the Puritans understanding of Biblical principles permitted them the freedom to enjoy the
liberties God gave married couples, which ensured a stable foundation for raising a godly family.
During this period, the Roman Catholic Church had continuously condemned sex between married
persons while praising virginity to the point of worshiping it. However, the Puritans believed this
view twisted God s purpose for marriage and assumed the ideology came from the devil himself.
The Puritans considered sex not only to be natural but necessary in bonding a husband and wife in
the union God ordained! Studying verses like Hebrews 13:4 shows us that the Puritans
interpretations of Scripture were accurate and that the Catholics were wrong in their assessment of
God s Word. While the

Final Critical Analysis Paper In the Article 10 Reasons Why Homosexual Marriage is Harmful
and Must be Opposed by TFP Student Action the group lays out ten points on why it believes
homosexual marriage is not only wrong but is harmful to society. The article gives 10 reasons why
same sex marriage is wrong: it is not marriage, it violates natural law, it always denies a child
either a father or a mother, it validates and promotes the homosexual lifestyle, it turns moral wrong
into a civil rights, it does not create a family but a naturally sterile union, it defeats the state s
purpose of benefiting marriage, it imposes its acceptance on all society, it s the cutting edge of the
sexual revolution, and it offends God. These reasons may sound rational on the surface, but I am
going to point out flaws I see in these arguments. In the first argument, TFP Student Action makes
the claim that marriage has always been a covenant between one man and one woman, which is far
from true. According to The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry, In many
cultures, both ancient and modern, polygamy has been quite common, which describes the
relationship of one husband with multiple wives (CLGS). The fact that marriage has not always
been between one man and one woman obviously discredits the argument made by the Student
Action Group. Seeing as how the TFP s definition of marriage has been discredited its argument

matters this behavior might cover. A manager at MKD Transportation s first ethical behavior
matter to be covered is in regard to the hiring and firing of an employee pertaining to job
performance, while maintaining the employee s privacy and respect. A second ethical behavior
matter can be toward the company itself, such as an internal conflict of interest as in stealing

Provide two (2) supporting facts. An example of a situation which a company might adopt a pricing
objective to set prices low for a new product would be in order to establish market share. Pricing
decisions are influenced by the need to compete in the marketplace, by social and ethical concerns
as well as corporate image. 1st supporting fact is to become the number one retailer with a solid
understanding of how to set prices with an ultimate goal of achieving maximum profit as well as
market share objectives. 2nd supporting fact would be how to price, promote and distribute
products to customers. This involves identifying different groups of people targeted by various
companies marketing programs, distribution methods and competitive potential. On the contrary,
with regard to profit maximization a company should adopt their objective by setting prices high
with the intention of selling a greater number of products to targeted individuals with the full
intention of generating the highest profits. Moreover, this kind of marketing and selling comes
with a high risk of failure if the product is priced to high, fewer products will be sold ultimately
losing money resulting in unsold excess

Similarities Between The Odyssey And The Test Of The Great...
Throughout time The Test of the Great Bow has been interpreted in many different ways.
Through Homer s 21 book of The Odyssey, Thomas O Grady s poem The Test of the Bow , and
Romare Bearden s painting The Bow of Odysseus. All three share the same story of Odysseus
journey to go home, string his bow, and win back his beloved wife Penelope. All of the authors
interpretations have similarities and differences shown through tone, conflict and theme through
each piece. The readers are given three very different ideas of tone through each interpretation.
Both Homer s 21 book of The Odyssey, and the poem The Test of the Bow have very similar tones.

find the perimeter of the small triangle that comes out to be 58 in. The rectangles are similar
so.. perimeter of big rectangles equals scale factor times perimeter of small rectangle equals
scale factor times 58 it results with 4.5. the perimeter of the big rectangle is 261. so now all we
do is use addition for the perimeters which is what gave you the total length then use subtraction
for 180 the answer comes out to be 139 Based off the picture I can assume that it will expand by the

Essay about Malcolm X
Malcolm s life is a Horatio Alger story with a twist. His is not a rags to riches tale, but a powerful
narrative of self transformation from petty hustler to internationally known political leader. Born in
Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Louise and Earl Little, who was a Baptist preacher active in Marcus
Garvey s Universal Negro Improvement Association, Malcolm, along with his siblings, experienced
dramatic confrontations with racism from childhood. Hooded Klansmen burned their home in
Lansing, Michigan; Earl Little was killed under mysterious circumstances; welfare agencies split up
the children and eventually committed Louise Little to a state mental institution; and Malcolm was
forced to live in a detention home run by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On other issues, however, Malcolm showed signs of independence from the NOI line. During
the mid 1950s, for example, he privately scoffed at Muhammad s interpretation of the genesis of
the white race and seemed uncomfortable with the idea that all white people were literally
devils. He was always careful to preface his remarks with The honorable Elijah Muhammad
teaches. . . . More significantly, Malcolm clearly disagreed with the NOI s policy of not
participating in politics. He not only believed that political mobilization was indispensable but
occasionally defied the rule by supporting boycotts and other forms of protest. In 1962, before he
split with the NOI, Malcolm shared the podium with black, white, and Puerto Rican labor
organizers in the left wing, multiracial hospital workers union in New York. He also began
developing an independent Pan Africanist and, in some respects, Third World political perspective
during the 1950s, when anticolonial wars and decolonization (see Decolonization in Africa: An
Interpretation) were pressing public issues. As early as 1954 Malcolm gave a speech comparing
the situation in Vietnam (see Vietnam War) with that of the Mau Mau Rebellion in colonial Kenya,
framing both of these movements as uprisings of the darker races creating a tidal wave against

Designing A New Logistics Network
1. Question #1.
Part A: Describe how you would design a new logistics network consisting of only a single
warehouse.
To design a single warehouse network, I would need to determine the optimal location of the
warehouse, its overall capacity, and the amount of space that will be allocated for each SKU or
product. A warehouse that is not strategically located in an equidistance manner to each region may
cause higher than normal transportation costs. If capacity is too low, inbound shipments could be
delayed and service levels will decline.
In addition, I would design a strategic transportation plan that coordinates inbound and outbound
shipments to reduce transportation costs and improve service levels. The warehouse will be designed

5. Proposed location of the new warehouse and transportation distances from the new location to
each retail outlet/customer
6. Transportation rates by available modes (i.e., rail, motor, etc.)
7. Fixed costs for running a central warehouse/distribution to determine optimal capacity versus cost
Part D: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the newly suggested distribution strategy
relative to the existing distribution strategy? The advantages of a centralized warehouse is higher
service levels and lower inventory holding costs due to aggregating customer demand and pooling
risk. That is, if customer demand is high in one region and lower in another, there will be no need
to hold excess inventory in a regional warehouse; the variation in demand will balance out and
reduce the requirements for excess inventory. Additionally, the fixed costs of maintaining one
central warehouse/distribution center will be lower than five regional warehouses. The
disadvantages are higher outbound transportation costs. Even with a strategic warehouse location,
such as Kentucky, there will bound to be retail outlets farther than others, such as San

Research Paper On Followers
Being a follower is easier than being a leader. Followers don t fight as hard nor do they stress as
much. Followers are submissive to the opinions of others. Followers camouflage into society;
they act, think, and speak like everyone else. Followers quiet their voices and allow others to
speak for them. Followers always require someone else to walk them in life. Followers never
take a stand nor stand in front of the line. Followers prefer decisions be made for them and
hardly ever get involved in decision making. Being a follower is the easy route in life; obey
others and you will fit right in. Followers never rebel, but complain often. They speak of change,
but wait for others to act. Followers criticize the work of others, but never bring fresh ideas to
the table. Followers are repetitive, they despise change. Followers seek comfort and avoid
challenges. Followers dependent on others; they seek the approval and favor of everyone else,
even if it means suppressing their own true identity. Followers spend more time gossiping than

The Wolfpack Is A 2015 Documentary That Tells The Story Of...
The Wolfpack is a 2015 documentary that tells the story of the Angulo family, specifically the six
movie obsessed brothers, and their life in a tiny New York City apartment. The Angulo brothers, all
named by their Hare Krishna father for different iterations of the god Krishna, shared a six room
apartment with their parents and older sister, Visnu. Their tight knit relationship developed in part
from the isolation the family experienced during the boys childhood. During the film, they tell the
camera how their father had the only key to the apartment and controlled their excursions into
the outside world. Sometimes we got out once a year, says Mukunda Angulo, and one particular
year we never got out at all (The Wolfpack 2015). To compensate for this lack of interaction with
the outside world, the brothers turned to movies, watching thousands of films during the years
they stayed inside the apartment. Their story is unique and compelling. These brothers, despite
or perhaps because of the conditions they were raised in, developed a strength and resiliency that
allows them to be surprisingly well adjusted to modern American life. They now have Facebook
pages and Instagram accounts, friends, love interests, and some have picked up Americanized
names (Krisna is now Glenn, and Jagadisa goes by Eddie). The Wolfpack offers viewers a glimpse

Gladiators Essay
People may see gladiators as a hero maybe even a role model however; their life is not something
one would truly wish for. A life in chains with harsh training, blood and existence were all given
for a man s word. Gladiators fought for freedom, money, and life; few gave all for something, and
most gave all for nothing. The gladiatorlife was not about going in an arena to become the most
notorious named fighter. The purpose for the gladiator to fight was to receive a chance to see their
family. They fought to support, and to see another sunrise.
Gladiators are seen as fighters or warriors of the colosseums in Rome; however not as slaves or
prisoners. Most gladiators were captured and prisoners of war who were later sold to owners, but
are referred to as managers. These managers would turn prisoners into gladiators who were hungry
for wins to survive. Wins brought life, food, women, and amenities that the gladiator could dream
for as a free person.
Some of the gladiators were free men and women who would sign contracts to managers for a set
amount of fights or wins. These free men and women fought for ransom to help pay off debts or to

Da Vinci came up with many concepts and even inventions of many mathematical instruments that
are still in use today. One of the concepts Leonardo da Vinci created was Platonic solids. Before he
could even think of creating this Da Vinci first spent time studying Luca Pacioli s book called
Summa de arithmetica, which consisted of practical arithmetic, basic algebra, basic geometry,
and accounting. From this Da Vinci was able to grasp the concept of geometry and go on to
create Platonic solids. In doing so he first started by taking tables of proportions and
multiplication tables form Luca Pacioli s book. Once working on this Leonardo da Vinci
collaborated with Luca Pacioli in the year 1497 about another book Pacioli made called Divina
Proportione which was about mathematics. Together Pacioli and Da Vinci dedicated the
second portion of Divina Proportione to only Platonic solids. Platonic solids are said to be a
polyhedron of whose faces are all congruent to regular polygons, and where the same faces meet
at every vertex of the polygon. This book would later go on to be published in the year 1509 as
Luca Pacioli the creator with help from Leonardo da Vinci and illustrations by Da Vinci as well.
After this incredible concept created by Leonardo da Vinci, he started to be consumed by
mathematics to the point where is notebook became filled with geometric sketches and diagrams.
Along with this Da Vinci could find the center of mass of a tetrahedron in which after finding he
tried to recreate it. Other occurrences in his notebook were ways of helping himself create the
rosette pattern for his artistic appeals. From this Leonardo da Vinci used many early compasses to
aid him in creating this pattern, but none seemed to get him where he needed too. Therefore, Da

The Narrator s Use Of Suspense In The Film Jaws
All is lost shows the persistence of the human spirit, in the ability to continue after adversity.
The opening shot places the protagonist in a life boat, at sea, startled from his reclined position
as he line snags. As he reels in the line the audience feels growing suspense as the protagonist has
been stuck at sea for days and if he has been able to successfully fish for food, we can feel
optimistic for his future at sea. The audience is rudely awakened when the suspense turns into
horror, not the expected delight, as a shark emerges from the water and takes his catch. Through
this use of suspense and the building of tension, the audience feels the protagonist s
disappointment along with him. When the protagonist tries to search for the sharks who stole his
catch he cannot see them, no matter how hard he tries. This can be seen as an allegory to the fact
he cannot predict the future events to happen. He is at the whim of the sea and to nature in
general. This is further highlighted by a low angle shot from beneath the life raft which shows the
sharks circling the protagonist. The use of a low angle shot in film gives power to the figure being
shot. In this instance the sharks are in the position of power, as they are the embodiment of nature

And it offers insights on the uphill battle women face in a professional setting. So there were
many reports of female Uber employees receiving emails from a manager. He would state that he s

you would expect, the women brought these unsettling offers to HR. Besides, they would more

And they cited this behavior as a one time incident from the manager (Ruiz, par. 5). Of course, that

I believe that Dunkin Donuts has it s value proposition deeply rooted in the idea that it offers

Human Security As National Security
After analyzing the US foreign policy, one can argue though it might not be perfect, it is obvious
that the challenges and security threats that it faces today are best addressed when human security
is a national security. A state cannot claim to be secured if its citizens face insecurities. Per Reveron
Mahoney Norris, the national security of a state cannot be achieved without first achieving human
security(Reveron Mahoney Norris, 2011). The United Statesis not only faced with terrorism but also
high levels of violent crimes, economic inequality, climate change and poverty which all falls under
the umbrella of human security. And according to the definition given earlier, it is known that
attacks of terrorism are mostly targeted at civilians, therefore when addressing the issue, the safety
of Americans both home and abroad is a top priority. The United States continuous call for the
advancement of human rightsis an evidence of it focusing more on the individual freedom and
development. In the year 2011, President Obama instructed that when issuing financial aid to
foreign countries, agencies should put into consideration the rights of the LGBT community. Also,
he joined other nations to boycott the 2014 winter Olympics which was held in Russia because of
Russia denying gay rights.
The United States adopts the idea of human security as national security because, with the changing
tides of things, governments use this approach to legitimize their use of repression

The Importance Of Technology In Feed
In the futuristic world M.T Anderson creates in Feed, the misuse of technology is a problem the
world faces. The novel Feed describes how the world could be in the future if humans let
technology rule their lives. Anderson wants the reader to realize the effect technology has on our
lives, and he also wants us to understand how we are being controlled and manipulated by media.
Therefore, Anderson, fearing that one day technology will surpass humanity by creating a society
of idiots like in the novel Feed, warns the reader from the futureour society might face if we don t
make a change soon.
The novel describes scenarios of the world where we live. For example: people are becoming less
intelligent because technology is dominating the human race. Moreover, One major theme is how
technology, including media and advertising, ruins the future. Since the feed is in the teenagers
head, they live and die by the feed. Everything they want is
Instantaneous. They no longer have a reason to think as individuals and increase there
Intelligence. Instead, they are content with having technology do everything for them.
They cannot even read or write because everything they need is done by the feed. In
School, teenagers learn about the feed, how to find the best bargains, how to get a job and how to
decorate their rooms. Regular subjects such as literature and math are not in School. The constant
advertisements running through their heads also ruin the future of the human race.

History. From Slavery Until Now, Ghana Is Considered One
History
From slavery until now, Ghana is considered one of the farthest growing country in the continent of
Africa because of several reasons. Ghana enters the historical data by the end of the 8th century,
through the narrative of Muslims traders traced to the desert by the profitable exchange for gold by
its leaders. Nevertheless, after the six centuries the exchange attracted the Portuguese sailors down
to the coastline of Guinea. In addition, this led to the Trans Saharan trading and the Islamic politics,
reinforcing the activity of the building of the Sudanic Empire, with the increase to that of Ghana
descendants, and those cities that came along the way of the port from the desert peripheral.

According to Martin O Meara, Nkrumah later became a fascinating symbol, inspiring his character
as the Father of African Nationalism every time he was incarcerated (p. 163). Nevertheless, after
been overthrown by the armed forces in 1966, the country faced economic and political insecurity.
However, with the appearance of Jerry Rawlings, and general support from those around him,
Rawlings personally dealt with the problems of Ghana, putting things in the right order. Which lead
to Ghana becoming one of Africa success stories in 1999, when it came to economic restructuring
and improvement.
Some of the different cultures or regions in Ghana
Like many African countries, Ghana has many different cultures. They are not only rich, but are
different from one tribal group to another.
Ashanti (Asante) region
The region or empire founded by King Osei Tutu I between 1695 1717 became one of the most
powerful empire in Ghana. As people that were united, they originated with a focus on the Oyoko
tribe throughout Asantemanso. Although the empire was faced with many years of suppressions as
a result of the Akwamu and Denkyira tribes, they ultimately develop as one of the remarkable
empire in Ghana after conquering the Denkyira King, Ntim Gyakari in1998 (battle of Feyiase).
Primarily located in the central belt of Ghana, the Ashanti region are a governmental region.

The Information technology industry, where nothing is predictable and constant change has
become a usual trend, is now on its new phase of its evolution stages. According to Richard L.

In these organizations, managers rely on instant information to deliver mass customized products
and services uniquely suited to the targeted markets. The decentralized structure allows the
managers to persuade informal commitments and networks to establish goals. In these kinds of
organizations, managers appeal to the knowledge, learning, and decision making of individual
employees to ensure proper operation of the firm. Once again, Information technology can perform
these activities in the best manner. High usage of Internet since the mid 1990s caused significant
organizational redesign and has contributed the emergence of new phenomenon Digital Firm. This
is the fourth factor of environmental change which forced companies to introduce new information
technology, and can be described as the firm where the most processes are enabled digitally, as well
as relationship with customers, employees and suppliers. This is flattened organization where, any
information required could be gained any time, anywhere in the firm. The level of technology in
such firm enables the managers to sense and respond to its customers far more rapidly. For such
managers, Information is not a simple handmaiden, but rather it is the core of the business and
primary management tool.
Although the advanced technology and efficient Information Systems bring many exciting
opportunities such as: speed of processes and calculations, learn and information obtaining,

Essay about Psychological Effects of Sexual Assault
Psychological Effects of Sexual Assault
Sexual assault is a term that is used interchangeably with the word rape. The decision on whether
or not to use the term rape or sexual assault is made by a state s jurisdiction. Sexual assault is more
readily used in an attempt to be more gender neutral (National Victim Center). Sexual assault can be
most easily described as forced or unconsentual sexual intercourse. The individual that is
performing these acts on the victim may either be a stranger or an acquaintance. In 1994, 64.2
percent of all rapes were committed by someone the offender had previously known (Ringel, 1997).
Regardless, this type of crime can have extreme effects on the victim. Sexual assault is a traumatic

They feel as though there is no one that can help them and that they are alone. This phase may
be expressed several hours or even days after the crime (Bard and Sangrey, 1979, pg. 35). In the
second phase, called the recoil stage, the victim struggles to adapt to the violation and tries to
reintegrate their fragmented selves (Bard and Sangrey, 1979, pg. 40). During this phase, the
victim tries to recover. This phase is very complex and deals with a lot of issues and emotions.
The victim often faces extreme fear and anxiety. They become fearful of their safety, as well as
anxious in their surrounding environment. They are afraid of the person that has violated them
as well as fearful of being alone. They also may fear the medical, legal, or social consequences of
the crime (CASA House). During this phase, the victim experiences sadness and depression, as
well as low self esteem. Along with this phase comes anger. The victim either becomes angry
with the person who defiled them or they may turn against themselves. (Bard and Sangrey, 1979,
pg. 45). The victim has a sense of guilt and blame. They often ask themselves why did I go there
by myself? or why didn t I fight back harder? During this phase, the victim may also suffer from
mood swings (Bard and Sangrey, 1979, pg. 46). They may go from happiness to sudden sadness,
or from rage to despair. The third and final phase is called the reorganization phase; the victim
becomes reorganized over time and

Freedom In A Caged Bird
In Maya Angelou s famous poem Caged Bird, she writes The caged bird sings of freedom.
Although Angelou was born many years after Jane Eyre became popular in the Victorian Age,
Bronte s message of finding one s independence when they are trapped in a situation or relationship
has continued throughout time. In Charlotte BrontС‘ s Jane Eyre, bird imagery is used to represent
the lack of freedom that poor and low class Victorian woman like Jane had in their life but Bronte
wanted to show through Jane that with bravery, strength and money; women are able to fight
becoming a caged bird and can make a fulfilling and financially stable life on their own.
Jane was frequently treated like a bird trapped in a cage in her childhood home of Gateshead ...

Rochester believes throughout the whole novel that he is an expert at reading people which he
tries to prove by disguising himself as a gypsy fortune teller for Jane and his friends. Before this
strange act when Rochester and Jane have their first discussion, he tries to read Jane by saying
at intervals the glance of a curious sort of bird through the close set bars of a cage: a vivid,
restless, resolute captive is there; were it but free, it would soar cloud high. (263) Rochester
describes Jane as a caged bird wishing to be free because Jane is stuck teaching at Thornfield
which is located far away from the nearest town which magnifies Jane s feeling of isolation.
Rochester sees that she could be powerful which is why throughout Jane s time at Thornfield he
is constantly trying to prove his dominance. As much as Rochester tries to win over Jane, she
resists him exclaiming I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an
independent will, which I now exert to leave you. (483) The discovery of Bertha helps Jane to
realize she could become a trapped and crazy woman if she stayed with Rochester. This revelation
helps Jane to break out of the cage that is Thornfield and soar cloud high just like Rochester
predicted. Fuller discusses both sides of Thornfield that Jane finds a great deal of liberty in the
grounds of Thornfield, but for Rochester they represent as much of a prison as Jane s garden at
Lowood. The irony of how one place can feel like home to one person but a prison to another is
demonstrated through Thornfield. Rochester has a part of his past that he is ashamed so he hides
it away in Thornfield while Jane begins to feel some freedom because she is finding a type of
family who cares for

The Formation And Trajectory Of Communal Violence
Communal violence can be defined as a form of conflict between ethnic groups, where solidarity is
felt for one s own group and opposition towards other groups (Myers and Horowitz, 2002). The
formation and trajectory of communal violence holds a number of similarities with the way that
terrorists are trained. Both incorporate motivations for violencewhich are provoked by economic
and political events. Secondly, motives for violence are often ecsasperated by ideological goals
which are often based around distortions of reality. Psychological explanations for intra group
hatred and conflictcan to explain how and why humans can act in this way.
In the training of terrorists, the motives behind the teachings are often driven by political and ...

Here, we have examples of how the drive for political and economic power presents itself as a
defined goal and a justification for executing violence towards a hated group.
It is in our human nature to assign stereotypes to particular ethnic groups and negative
stereotypes provide the foundations for such violence to occur. Hoffmann (1986) suggests
stereotypes are cognitive constructs created out of a kernel of truth and then distorted beyond
reality . Such stereotypes can act as the drivers for violence. Similarly, when terrorists are
trained, they are taught hatred towards opposing groups. The terrorist notebooks revealed that
students received specific lessons on who should die. For example, students learnt to oppose
Uzbekistans rulers, who were described as being betrayers of faith. Teachings about opposing
groups appear to be based on distortions of reality, as the writer claims that the teachers relatively
uneducated. Thus, it appears in both cases, a generalised view of the enemy often acts as a driver
for violence, in addition to solidarity being felt for one s own group.
Whilst negative stereotypes may provide the foundations for hatred towards an opposing group,
communal violence can often be driven by myths which promote utopian fantasies. This often arises
from ancient myths which are projected a current situation. For example, in

Relationship Between Tradition And Scripture
Tradition and Scripture One cannot talk about tradition without acknowledging the fact that the
definition of tradition within the Church is continuously changing. At first, the Apostles were the
tradition. Tradition meant the Apostle s Christological preaching and interpretation of scripture. A
few centuries of later, the Church had to distinguish itself and set boundaries to what would be
considered traditional, and in line with the teachings and interpretations of the Apostles. The
Nicene Creed for example, is a kanon, literally meaning a measuring stick, that determines what is
within the boundaries of this tradition, and what is considered to be outside of it. This rule of faith,
is composed of scriptural verses that form the foundation of the Christian Faith. This clearly
explains the relationship between tradition and scripture. Tradition is within scripture, and defined
by scripture, but scripture is also read through the scope that the tradition provides. Going back to
the definition of tradition, centuries later and specially today in the 21st century, tradition is no
longer defined by just the Apostolic interpretation and the rule of faith. Today tradition includes, but
is not limited to, conciliar statements, writings of church fathers, liturgy, iconography, and
iconography. Some would argue that it is limited to that, and some even say that I provided a very
broad definition of tradition. However, looking at the progression of tradition we can see that it

  • 2. Persuasive Speech On Child Soldiers Is it known to the billions in this world, of the many who are unfairly tortured? Thousands and thousands of people are tormented, and living a difficult life. Of these thousands, are child soldiers. Child soldiers experience awful wars with bloodshed, which no child should ever experience. The Middle East, where most children are recruited, is filled with cities of rubble. Children living in this environment can t go to school, starve and may even be abandoned or separated from their parents. Being in war, child soldiers commit crimes each and every time they land a foot on the battlefield. Is this their choice? Is it considered fun for them to play with weapons? Should they be forgiven for their actions? Child soldiers should be given amnesty... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Viewers who support not forgiving child soldiers say child soldiers need to learn that what they did was wrong and by sending them to tough camps like Guantanamo Bay, they will have time to understand their mistakes. However, keeping these children in an as equal harsh environment will only trigger there actions to go and further violate laws. Like said previously, Omar Khadr, a child soldier now living in Guantanamo Bay, went on to murder U.S Army Sgt. First Class Christopher Speer. Despite that fact that others believe there are many children who choose to become a soldier, there is always are driving factor which possibly may seem like a children s choice. In other words, this claim is untrue. Children not only become child soldiers because they are abandoned by their parents, or are forced, sometimes the parents have little money and send their kids off. The parents can t keep up with bills or feeding the family, so their only hope to make money is deporting their children for the maximum pay of $1.50. This situation of send off may look like the child chose to be in the military, but this is inaccurate. Lastly, critics argue child soldiers are better fighters than adult soldiers. ... • 3. The Key Of Effective Leadership The Key to Effective Leadership Insights Gained I have ascertained that utilizing mental models, I can understand why and how different people on the same team process similar occurrences in a different manner. A mental model is a set of ideas and assumptions that you carry in your head (Bolman, Deal, 2013, p. 10). These mental models that we rely on as an interpretation, influence our understanding of world and organizational events, because they reflect our current mind sets. For example, a mental model that is prevalent in the army, is that your appearance reflects your potential. This may cause others to judge soldiers initially, by their appearance. If they are overweight, or their appearance looks disheveled, they are often initially seen as being undisciplined. Changing our mental models can directly change our understanding of events, because we can perceive things differently, and also then identify other root causes, or resolutions. In my example, if one realizes that a newly assigned soldier may not be completely situated in a home and community as yet, that perhaps they do not have access to the resources that they may need, to present the best appearance, such as a good barber. A leader could recognize this as a need to provide more community familiarization, or access to resources. By exploring mental, models Senge (2006) recognizes that one can create a reflection in the work environment and, by doing so, encourage a more open discussion, and expose the ... • 4. The Impact Of Music On The Music Industry No one can deny that technology is actively changing the music industry. Production, distribution and sales of music have been affected dramatically within the last 10 years along with artists, composers, and technicians. Most of the changes have been great for consumers, but vastly negative for professionals in the music industry, however a few artists have found ways to adapt to the changing atmosphere of digitally downloaded music and use it to their advantage. We ve seen music change form from physical, tangible products like records and CD s to electronic single tracks stored in an invisible cloud. Two major factors in this sudden revolution are online music stores (specifically iTunes) and file sharingwebsites that allow music to be downloaded illegally. Since the iTunes music store was introduced on April 28, 2003, gross music sales have plummeted in the United States from $11.8 billion in 2003 to $7.1 billion in 2012, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (Covert). Counterintuitively, during that time consumers were buying more music than ever. How is that possible? It s because iTunes had made digital singles popular and was selling them cheap. This would change the music industry forever. In 2000, Americans bought 943 million CD albums (Covert), and digital sales didn t even make a dent in comparison. But by 2007, those inexpensive singles overtook CDs by a wide margin, generating 819 million sales compared to just 500 million for the CD. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Scott Fitzgerald, and Dorothy Parker; all renowned writers with a large fan base, however, what many do not correlate to these particular authors is that they also suffered from addiction. Addiction is defined as a mental disorder that establishes a dependence on any given substance which can internally and externally affect a person. Addictionimpacts a person s relationships, mental capability, and even someone s will to live. Depression is one of the many mental illnesses that writers are diagnosed with, more specifically, Dorothy Parker. Although Parker was also an addict, she also was excessively depressed, and in so, many argue that her depression was a larger contributor to her writing rather than her addiction to alcohol. Many people write to cope with their depression, in which many people correlate this factor to Parker specifically. A writer, Janna Marlies Maron, discusses, But I wrote emotional rants. Diatribes about how awful life was and how horrible I felt. What an untalented, unskilled, unlucky, unlovable, un everything person I am (Maron). In many of Parker s short stories, she embeds her negative experiences into her writing style. Parker s short story, A Telephone Call, displays the narrator as a woman who is waiting for a male to call her, in which she becomes obsessive. Parker is similar in this case from the many articles stating that all of her marriages were not successful. Parker is viewed to have written many of her short stories based on her depression, to where writing allowed for her to confront her present negative experiences. Although these are accurate depictions, an author s writing can still be heavily influenced by their addiction because it is a large part of their life. When reflecting back on King, Parker, and Fitzgerald, the abusing of substances can backtrack to past negative experiences and can also increase someone s vulnerability to depression. In more words, Alcohol makes depression worse, and can even cause depression in some instances...As a depressed person drinks to cope with their depression, the alcohol ends up making them even more depressed, and they ll need to drink even more ( The Link Between Depression and Alcoholism ). He has such command over his instrument that many other players tried to imitate his sound on the tenor saxophone, though only a few could approach his technical mastery. The Education Of The United States Essay The Education Revolution Currently, the United States is ranked 14th in its educational standard, 17th in educational performance and 24th in literacy (Mark). Compared to the rest of the world, we are behind countries like Poland, China, Finland and New Zealand. For a country that prides itself on its successful western society, what is stopping us from having an education system to match the standards we have put on the rest of our amenities. However, a solution is closer than it seems. According to Rasmussen College, there are 6.7 million students currently enrolled in online courses, therefore with an increasing number of students attending these classes, it is not a question on whether or not these classes will become normal, but when and how these classes will revolutionize our education system (Bird). Online courses offer students the ability to create an education based around their schedule, and allow students who may struggle or may not be able to attend a traditional school environment the chance to have an equal education. Not only can the students benefit from an online education environment, but both schools and professors can gain from an online system. Moreover, such courses can help create a global education system that allows anyone to have the same access to an education anywhere in the world as long as they have a connection to the internet. The Bradford riots in 1995, and other public outcries showed the growing animosity that was being felt toward the police by minority ethnic communities. Another factor, which led the opinions of minority ethnic citizens of the police to become additionally hostile, is the ever advancing statistical and research evidence of racism within the police force. In 1978 Stuart Hall et al showed most clearly how, largely on the basis of pre existing stereotypes minority ethnic people (in particular black people) were being criminalized and subjected to extraordinary policing and punishment. Both these factors increased the feelings of hatred for the police amongst minority ethnic communities. This was then furthered by the subsequent failings of the Scarman report. These included his failure to explain properly in his report the main reason why black people were so angry with the police this was to do with the oppressive policing that they were being subjected to. He was unsuccessful in looking at police powers (particularly stop and search) (Bridges 1982, Howe 1988 cited in Bowling et al 2002) and most importantly he failed to take a proper account of institutional racism . A wonderful part of that depiction is his descriptions of the creative yet cruel punishments that each of the different sinners receive. This story is an integral part of literary history, and even if I were to have the imagination and ability of Dante Alighieri, I don t believe I would change this tried and true version known universally. Since I have the desire to maintain the validity of Dante s version of hell in its entirety, I will explain the parts I found most intriguing, and why. • 20. The Puritans Religious Beliefs Critics often paint the Puritans as a miserable people, whose only concern was protecting themselves from the outside world. This, however, is not the only supposed offense the Puritans committed. These critics then protest that the Puritans, fixated on their desire of creating a skewed reality, eagerly stripped away any right one had that might contradict this delusional existence! Contrary to this opinion, the Massachusettscolony proved to be a community knitted together in their longing to serve God and desire to know their God given liberties on these controversial issues of their day: marriages and families; physical labors and charitable activities; and finally, education and government. First, the Puritans understanding of Biblical principles permitted them the freedom to enjoy the liberties God gave married couples, which ensured a stable foundation for raising a godly family. During this period, the Roman Catholic Church had continuously condemned sex between married persons while praising virginity to the point of worshiping it. However, the Puritans believed this view twisted God s purpose for marriage and assumed the ideology came from the devil himself. The Puritans considered sex not only to be natural but necessary in bonding a husband and wife in the union God ordained! Nathan Fink PHL 123 Corrine Painter DATE Final Critical Analysis Paper In the Article 10 Reasons Why Homosexual Marriage is Harmful and Must be Opposed by TFP Student Action the group lays out ten points on why it believes homosexual marriage is not only wrong but is harmful to society. The article gives 10 reasons why same sex marriage is wrong: it is not marriage, it violates natural law, it always denies a child either a father or a mother, it validates and promotes the homosexual lifestyle, it turns moral wrong into a civil rights, it does not create a family but a naturally sterile union, it defeats the state s purpose of benefiting marriage, it imposes its acceptance on all society, it s the cutting edge of the sexual revolution, and it offends God. These reasons may sound rational on the surface, but I am going to point out flaws I see in these arguments. In the first argument, TFP Student Action makes the claim that marriage has always been a covenant between one man and one woman, which is far from true. According to The Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies in Religion and Ministry, In many cultures, both ancient and modern, polygamy has been quite common, which describes the relationship of one husband with multiple wives (CLGS). The fact that marriage has not always been between one man and one woman obviously discredits the argument made by the Student Action Group. The advantages of a centralized warehouse is higher service levels and lower inventory holding costs due to aggregating customer demand and pooling risk. That is, if customer demand is high in one region and lower in another, there will be no need to hold excess inventory in a regional warehouse; the variation in demand will balance out and reduce the requirements for excess inventory. From this Da Vinci was able to grasp the concept of geometry and go on to create Platonic solids. In doing so he first started by taking tables of proportions and multiplication tables form Luca Pacioli s book. Once working on this Leonardo da Vinci collaborated with Luca Pacioli in the year 1497 about another book Pacioli made called Divina Proportione which was about mathematics. • 36. The Narrator s Use Of Suspense In The Film Jaws All is lost shows the persistence of the human spirit, in the ability to continue after adversity. The opening shot places the protagonist in a life boat, at sea, startled from his reclined position as he line snags. As he reels in the line the audience feels growing suspense as the protagonist has been stuck at sea for days and if he has been able to successfully fish for food, we can feel optimistic for his future at sea. The audience is rudely awakened when the suspense turns into horror, not the expected delight, as a shark emerges from the water and takes his catch. Through this use of suspense and the building of tension, the audience feels the protagonist s disappointment along with him. When the protagonist tries to search for the sharks who stole his catch he cannot see them, no matter how hard he tries. This can be seen as an allegory to the fact he cannot predict the future events to happen. He is at the whim of the sea and to nature in general. This is further highlighted by a low angle shot from beneath the life raft which shows the sharks circling the protagonist. The use of a low angle shot in film gives power to the figure being shot. Human Security As National Security After analyzing the US foreign policy, one can argue though it might not be perfect, it is obvious that the challenges and security threats that it faces today are best addressed when human security is a national security. A state cannot claim to be secured if its citizens face insecurities. Per Reveron Mahoney Norris, the national security of a state cannot be achieved without first achieving human security(Reveron Mahoney Norris, 2011). The United Statesis not only faced with terrorism but also high levels of violent crimes, economic inequality, climate change and poverty which all falls under the umbrella of human security. And according to the definition given earlier, it is known that attacks of terrorism are mostly targeted at civilians, therefore when addressing the issue, the safety of Americans both home and abroad is a top priority. The United States continuous call for the advancement of human rightsis an evidence of it focusing more on the individual freedom and development. In the year 2011, President Obama instructed that when issuing financial aid to foreign countries, agencies should put into consideration the rights of the LGBT community. Also, he joined other nations to boycott the 2014 winter Olympics which was held in Russia because of Russia denying gay rights. Trudeau was only person in this election who was promising an easy money policy, this idea is not a new one, and it was originally introduced by economist John Maynard Keynes in the 1930 s. The easy money policy guarantees an increase in aggregate demand in the economy as the government increases spending and runs large deficits. This is the same economic plan that would allow Justin Trudeau s father Pierre Trudeau to prosper as Canadian Prime Minister for 15 years, and is in fact called Trudeaunomics, based on their own personal brand of financial policies. From Slavery Until Now, Ghana Is Considered One History From slavery until now, Ghana is considered one of the farthest growing country in the continent of Africa because of several reasons. Ghana enters the historical data by the end of the 8th century, through the narrative of Muslims traders traced to the desert by the profitable exchange for gold by its leaders. Nevertheless, after the six centuries the exchange attracted the Portuguese sailors down to the coastline of Guinea. In addition, this led to the Trans Saharan trading and the Islamic politics, reinforcing the activity of the building of the Sudanic Empire, with the increase to that of Ghana descendants, and those cities that came along the way of the port from the desert peripheral. The decision on whether or not to use the term rape or sexual assault is made by a state s jurisdiction. Sexual assault is more readily used in an attempt to be more gender neutral (National Victim Center). Sexual assault can be most easily described as forced or unconsentual sexual intercourse. The individual that is performing these acts on the victim may either be a stranger or an acquaintance. In 1994, 64.2 percent of all rapes were committed by someone the offender had previously known (Ringel, 1997). Regardless, this type of crime can have extreme effects on the victim. During this phase, the victim tries to recover. This phase is very complex and deals with a lot of issues and emotions. The victim often faces extreme fear and anxiety. They become fearful of their safety, as well as anxious in their surrounding environment. They are afraid of the person that has violated them as well as fearful of being alone. Although Angelou was born many years after Jane Eyre became popular in the Victorian Age, Bronte s message of finding one s independence when they are trapped in a situation or relationship has continued throughout time. In Charlotte BrontС‘ s Jane Eyre, bird imagery is used to represent the lack of freedom that poor and low class Victorian woman like Jane had in their life but Bronte wanted to show through Jane that with bravery, strength and money; women are able to fight becoming a caged bird and can make a fulfilling and financially stable life on their own. Before this strange act when Rochester and Jane have their first discussion, he tries to read Jane by saying at intervals the glance of a curious sort of bird through the close set bars of a cage: a vivid, restless, resolute captive is there; were it but free, it would soar cloud high. (263) Rochester describes Jane as a caged bird wishing to be free because Jane is stuck teaching at Thornfield which is located far away from the nearest town which magnifies Jane s feeling of isolation. Rochester sees that she could be powerful which is why throughout Jane s time at Thornfield he is constantly trying to prove his dominance. As much as Rochester tries to win over Jane, she resists him exclaiming I am no bird; and no net ensnares me; I am a free human being with an independent will, which I now exert to leave you. (483) The discovery of Bertha helps Jane to realize she could become a trapped and crazy woman if she stayed with Rochester. This revelation helps Jane to break out of the cage that is Thornfield and soar cloud high just like Rochester predicted. Fuller discusses both sides of Thornfield that Jane finds a great deal of liberty in the grounds of Thornfield, but for Rochester they represent as much of a prison as Jane s garden at Lowood. The irony of how one place can feel like home to one person but a prison to another is demonstrated through Thornfield. The Formation And Trajectory Of Communal Violence Communal violence can be defined as a form of conflict between ethnic groups, where solidarity is felt for one s own group and opposition towards other groups (Myers and Horowitz, 2002). The formation and trajectory of communal violence holds a number of similarities with the way that terrorists are trained. Both incorporate motivations for violencewhich are provoked by economic and political events. Secondly, motives for violence are often ecsasperated by ideological goals which are often based around distortions of reality. Psychological explanations for intra group hatred and conflictcan to explain how and why humans can act in this way. Here, we have examples of how the drive for political and economic power presents itself as a defined goal and a justification for executing violence towards a hated group. It is in our human nature to assign stereotypes to particular ethnic groups and negative stereotypes provide the foundations for such violence to occur. Hoffmann (1986) suggests stereotypes are cognitive constructs created out of a kernel of truth and then distorted beyond reality . Such stereotypes can act as the drivers for violence. Similarly, when terrorists are trained, they are taught hatred towards opposing groups. The terrorist notebooks revealed that students received specific lessons on who should die. For example, students learnt to oppose Uzbekistans rulers, who were described as being betrayers of faith. Teachings about opposing groups appear to be based on distortions of reality, as the writer claims that the teachers relatively uneducated. Thus, it appears in both cases, a generalised view of the enemy often acts as a driver for violence, in addition to solidarity being felt for one s own group. Whilst negative stereotypes may provide the foundations for hatred towards an opposing group, communal violence can often be driven by myths which promote utopian fantasies. This often arises from ancient myths which are projected a current situation. For example, in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Relationship Between Tradition And Scripture Tradition and Scripture One cannot talk about tradition without acknowledging the fact that the definition of tradition within the Church is continuously changing. At first, the Apostles were the tradition. Tradition meant the Apostle s Christological preaching and interpretation of scripture. A few centuries of later, the Church had to distinguish itself and set boundaries to what would be considered traditional, and in line with the teachings and interpretations of the Apostles. The Nicene Creed for example, is a kanon, literally meaning a measuring stick, that determines what is within the boundaries of this tradition, and what is considered to be outside of it. This rule of faith, is composed of scriptural verses that form the foundation of the Christian Faith. This clearly explains the relationship between tradition and scripture. Tradition is within scripture, and defined by scripture, but scripture is also read through the scope that the tradition provides. Going back to the definition of tradition, centuries later and specially today in the 21st century, tradition is no longer defined by just the Apostolic interpretation and the rule of faith. Today tradition includes, but is not limited to, conciliar statements, writings of church fathers, liturgy, iconography, and iconography. Some would argue that it is limited to that, and some even say that I provided a very broad definition of tradition. However, looking at the progression of tradition we can see that it ...
