Zero Turn Mowers
They all have four tires, an engine, and a mowing deck, but are they any different from the rest? It
seems like zero turn mowers are growing in popularity every year. Not only do they make quick work
of large mowing areas, they are a blast to operate. Professionals have been using them for years to cut
tight spaces and large lawns with ease. Zero turn radius (ZTR) means that you can turn on a dime with
ease. That is, you stay in the same place while your mower is turning. Because of this, they don t leave
a circle of uncut grass that would normally require a second pass. Some companies claim that a zero
turn mower can cut your mowing time in half. I would have to agree with this statement. That also
means less fuel usage and less wear and

My Opinion On Teaching Style Essay
My biggest issue with the way that most English classes are taught, not only in college, but at all
education levels is that they don t necessarily teach people how to write. Rather, they teach the
students how other people have written. I came into this class hoping that maybe I would receive the
opportunity to write my own fiction writing, which maybe does not interest the majority of students,
but for me is something I looked forward to as someone who considered himself to be full of at least
some worthwhile ideas. This semester was interesting and educational but not entirely my ideal
learning choice. Maybe creative writing is the better path to take for dreams like mine, but that is not
the point of this paper. The unit that I found the most lacking that I think could benefit the most from
this teaching style that I have in my brain is definitely the third, Setting and Symbol.
I picked this because of the large amount of potential to be found with those two words. Setting is
often what draws people in. Sure a round character or two sprinkled into a book will net you a few
people reading, but a fully immersive setting and engrossing world will draw people in for decades. If
you don t believe me, see Harry Potter for inspiration. Whereas a strong symbol can be used to
communicate meaning in ways that no other form of idea transferring device can. If you find yourself
in a debate with someone over anything often it is difficult to win and sway them to your view,
however if

Freud s Developmental Stages Essay
Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human
psychological development and developmental problems.
A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages:
Birth 1 year: Oral Stage.
This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and
from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force.
When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next stage
which is solid food.
Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression.
The individual could suffer from difficulties with food, oral behaviours such as smoking, gossip and
other more aggressive verbal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1 3 years: The Anal stage. â€oeWhere gratification is derived from gaining control over withholding
or eliminating faeces†Dryden s
Handbook of Individual Therapy pg 32
This stage is concerned with child s need to do things on their own terms, the conflict arises for them
where they have a need to assert their own will but also crave parental approval, this time can produce
a battle of wills between parent and child.
Age 3 6 years: The phallic stage.
At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the roles
they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the same sex role
models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as there are many
single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would not have been
accepted.
However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious
about sexual differences.
This is a very important stage in psychological development. There are some differing accounts about
what the Oedipal complex truly represents but it is clear it is a time of confusion for a

Counselor Identity Report Essay
Abstract Often in life it is important for us to reflect on what career path we will take. It helps to better
define who we are as individuals, what we stand for, it allows others to know your background, why
you are so passionate about it, and why you chose to follow a certain path in life. This paper will
answer several of these questions as we delve into wondering when was the first time I recall an
individual applying counseling skills with me, my feelings, and the outcome of the encounter, and
how has that influenced my counseling perspective. We will identify what I believe is the best type of

Everything about it just clicked. I feel that a professional counselor should have several ideal personal
attributes. They should be astounding listeners. Counselors should also hold themselves to a very high
ethical standard, even in their own personal lives. Additional counselor attributes, skills and
techniques that have been identified as important to the counseling process include, congruence,
concreteness, immediacy, paraphrasing, reflection, problem solving, challenge, confrontation, and
positive nonverbal communication (Pope Davis, 2002, p 356). A counselor should also explore and
practice getting started, contracting, gathering information, eliciting the client s story, and being
sensitive to the timing of interventions. (Pope Davis, 2002, p 356). I am equipped with the ability to
thoroughly and effectively listen. It is not just about hearing what the client is saying. You have to also
be able to listen to what the client is not saying. All too many times do we ask others How are you
today? It takes someone with a sixth sense to truly feel if that person is saying what they mean. I
definitely feel this and am able to empathize with my clients. I also feel that a counselor should have a
way about themselves where they appear strong and flawless. They must be the one the client tries to
emulate. They should not have problems and issues that can clearly be seen from the

What Does The Eye Of The Storm Mean
Studs Terkel (1980) relates C. P. Ellis story about how his experiences organizing a union opened his
eyes about how corporations treat minorities, and resulted in a new understanding of the people
around him even though he was a former Klansman. I have never been in the Klan or organized a
union, but a similar turning point for me came for me when I saw the movie The Eye of the Storm,
about Jane Elliot s experiment with white schoolchildren in Riceville, Iowa. This experiment
demonstrated to me how children respond to cultural cues first from their parents and family
members, but then through the institutions they are forced to participate in like school; the church;
other families and supervisory agencies. If even white children can be taught to discriminate against
other white children on something as arbitrary and insubstantial as eye color, then how easy it must be
to train them to respond in denigrating ways to people with different skin color, body shapes or
language for example, I realized. This changed my perspective on racism and ethnicity and while I
have since done much research and believe education is the secret, the way I have decided to
implement change in my own life, is to speak out when I hear someone making a denigrating
comment.
This goes back to what I learned from The Eye of the Storm, where if people accept certain behaviors
as normal, as the children in Ms. Elliot s class were trained to do, then they become so reinforced as to
turn into norms

A Psychodynamic Treatment Approach Essay
Susanna would benefit most from a psychodynamic treatment approach, with a specific emphasis on
clarification, confrontation, and interpretation/transference interpretation. As highlighted by
McWilliams (1999), recurrent themes emerge within the therapy which constitute the client s internal
and external world. With this in mind, Susanna s internal object relations would undoubtedly unfold in
the relationship with the therapist. As Susanna evidences a lack of insight, it will be the therapist s
responsibility to clarify Susanna s experiences for her. In this view, clarification refers to the
reformulation of the patient s verbalizations to convey a more coherent view of what is being
communicated. The therapist may want to clarify what it was like in Susanna s household growing up,
and gather further information on Susanna s romantic relationships. Clarifying sentiments might
include you stated that at times you felt loved by your mother, and hated at other times, but overall do
you feel that your mother loves you? While this technique alone will not lead to therapeutic change, it
will be essential for helping Susanna develop a rapport with the therapist, and establishing a
therapeutic alliance. As borderline pathology is characterized by negative affects, and impulsive,
dangerous behavior, the therapist s ability to keep Susanna in treatment will be essential. The therapist
can do this by presenting him/herself non judgmentally, as well showing Susanna that s/he is

Analysis Of Dashiell Hammett s The House On Turk Street
Set against the backdrop of San Francisco during the Roaring 1920 s, Dashiell Hammett s The House
on Turk Street invokes classic images of the courageous and hardened crime fighter enveloped by the
ubiquitous reach of organized crime. Mr. Hammett draws inspiration from his own experiences both
as a young man working for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and his time serving in the
Army (PBS, 1). The story, a pristine specimen of the hardboiled detective genre, captures not only the
edge of your seat emotions of mystery, but also the grueling realism and brutality of organized crime.
Despite my overwhelmingly positive response to the story, it is not a flawless work. Mr. Hammett
occasionally relies too heavily on seemingly self resolving circumstances within the storyline, making
scenarios too convenient for the characters and leaving the reader frustrated by the lack of suspense.
Also of concern is that, while the periphery characters are plentifully described and develop
harmoniously throughout the story, Mr. Hammett often leaves the reader yearning for a more profound
development of the Continental Op. Beyond these sudden revolutions and shallow descriptions, The
House in Turk Street is a fantastic read that is exciting, intelligent, and a quintessential piece of
American noir fiction. Mr. Hammett begins his story by introducing a Continental Op (a detective)
who had been told that man whom I was hunting lived in a certain Turk Street block (Hammett, 3).

Depression And Guilt In Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold
Lovely Bones Essay Heaven is comfort, but it s still not living. Alice Sebold. Alice Sebold the author
of Lovely Bones creates a story of depression, guilt, and grief with the murder of Susie Salmons. In
Lovely Bones the death of Susie affects all those close to her, like her mother, her father and her
classmates. Her father grieves with despair as the murderer has yet to be caught. Her mother can not
handle her disappearance and finds unnerving ways to cope. Susie s classmates, Ruth and Ray both
find ways to cope with each other and through other connections with Susie. A death of a loved young
one is one no one is ever ready for. The grief starts and people find ways to feel guilty. If no mental

Although Jack admits that Susie has left, he shifts his attention to another desire, the desire to bring
her death to justice through an unlawful path. We ve just built a tent, Mr.Harvey said. The neighbors
saw us. We re friends now You know something, my father said. (57). Jack, like everyone else has
flaws and his stubbornness leads him to doing something he would not normally do. His
unextinguishable passion to find Susie s murderer leads him to coincidently believe that Mr.Harvey is
Susie s killer. However Mr.Harvey is the murderer of Susie, the evidence shown to Jack and the police
show no evidence that Mr.Harvey committed the murder, which further proves that Jack is chasing a
blank slate. Jack needs a scapegoat for his grief and chooses to find revenge in unproven subjects. A
father s suspicion she began. Is as powerful as a mother s intuition (87) says Jack. Once again Jack is
trying to find a reason to make his illogical suspicion logical. Jack refuses to believe that Susie s death
occurred without a killer. He puts himself in denial and by doing so he will grieve forever. Jack s
perpetual grief will go on as long he finds things to place guilt on. Furthermore Sebold shows that rage
and denial can be used to deal with the death of a loved one. To follow, one can choose to resort to
another lover or to isolate themselves from their family. Susie s mother, Abigail may have been the
one who took Susie s death with greatest impact.

The Factors That Shape An Individual s Self Concept Essay
lf concept refers to the mental image or idea that an individual holds regarding themselves. An
individuals self concept continually develops in each of the life stages and is seen to be closely related
to the social as well as the emotional development. As such, a person views themselves differently
depending on the environment in which they are.
Self concept in an individual takes various steps to being formed. The most important step is the initial
one which happens while one is still a child. Here, an individual learns how to differentiate their own
body and the rest of the world. At this stage, a child gets to learn that there are some things which are
always there whereas others do come and then go away. The various factors that shape an individuals
self concept therefore are:
FAMILY
The family is an important social unit that plays a great role in developing an individual s self concept.
The first kind of relationships that one develops is within the family context. Attachments with parents
and close family members are built at this level and as a child, one acquires a sense of security and
feelings of love. The bonds created at the family level are key in the development of positive self
concept. To the parents, positive labeling for example continually telling a child that he is creative or
bright is a factor that could work in building their self concept while constantly labeling a child as
being stupid has a high likelihood of damaging the child s

Importance And Importance Of Team Building
Introduction
Team Building is essential to make the organization a better place to work. When we hear the term
Team Building we are drawn to the term team and then what can be done to help them grow and
improve. It inspires groups of employees to communicate through a series of planned events that are
motivational as well as fun. These events can be used to determine strong points in the person s
personality, such as leadership skills, problem solving skills, etc. This can benefit the person by giving
them job satisfaction and the opportunity to progress to their full potential. Team building is truly
important as it also benefits the team as a whole. When employees of any company who rarely work
together are allowed to communicate, they can discover that they enjoy the interaction and continue to
bond with different people (from distinct fields) back at the office. Those employees who previously

that don t feel like a day at the office. Activities or exercises that overtly aim to draw in leadership
lessons or practical takeaways are less entertaining or powerful. Well, the innovative method is to plan

Cultural Impacts Of Tourism Development
SOCILAAND CULTURAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT
The discourse concerning the impacts of tourism in national development, economic and otherwise,
has had both negative and positive connotations. Societies hosting tourist attractions are frequently
seen as the victims of the negative effects of tourism while the tourists seen as the perpetrators of the
crime; bringing their culture and values and imposing them on the host societies. While these
generally accepted stereotypical thoughts may be true in some instances, it is however misleading to
hold these notions regarding the changes in the social and cultural aspects of a society. Whereas socio
cultural changes may in part be due to tourism, it can also be due to other modernization and global
factors such as international trade relations, military actions, migration etc (Sharpley R. and Telfer D.,
2002).
Concerning tourism development, the socio cultural changes which occur in the community are more
often than not seen as negative, with the positive contributions been underplayed or totally ignored.
Though it is difficult to measure the influence of tourism on socio cultural changes, the extent of the
impact can be determined by the change in value and logic system, religious beliefs, tradition,
lifestyle, behavioural patterns, etc (Inskeep, 1991). The relationship between tourism development and
social and cultural characteristics of a society is non linear; as well as negative effects, tourism
development can also have

Aspects of a Good Game
Games have been enjoyed for generations, whether they are board games, computer games or console
games. However, to succeed in making a good game, it must be enjoyable and must include many
different aspects. Through researching, several of the most common and important aspects that a game
should have to include to be a good game have been found. The most regularly mentioned aspects of
what makes a good game are:
Challenge/Reward
Freedom
Experience
Place/Feel
Story
Challenge/Reward
Challenge should be implemented in every game to make it more exciting and engage the player more.
They should not be impossible although should be difficult enough to make the player think and
construct a strategy or method to surpass them. Challenge should often come with a reward for
completing them so that the player will feel more motivated to complete them.
Rather than just points, money etc. as rewards; rewards such as new abilities, a new part of the map to
explore, a new item or even a new task can be given. These rewards are motivating and also help to
keep the player enjoying the game through side quests/challenges, instead of just playing the game to
win.
Freedom
Freedom includes the range of different choices and paths that can be made to complete an objective.
For example, going through the front door can attract a lot of attention while the side door will not.
You can choose whether you want a huge gunfight between you and the enemy or rather take a
stealthy approach.

A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun Analysis
Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which they
live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A Madman s Diary,
by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the narrator going to visit
two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two brothers has recently been
cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the narrator his brother s diary for the
narrator to read. After the narrator s explanation of how he got the madman s diary, the rest of the
story is composed of various entries from the diary the narrator was given. In the diary entries, it is
learned that the madman is very fearful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Madman s Diary, the madman is the only one who is truly in touch with reality. He is the only
one who is seeing the true cannibalistic nature of the feudal system. The metaphor between
cannibalism and feudalism is meant to convey to the readers the flaws of the feudal system without Lu
Xun directly criticizing the system. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the society he is
living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the possibility of the
nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children who have not
consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature of this society of
consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the feudalistic society can change
if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that he has hope for the future of society.
...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope that the future for the children of China
will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China
through the madman s hope in the story. The madman is the only one who is truly aware of the
problems of the society that they live in. Everyone else around him simply seems to accept the ways
of life. Metaphorically, this is representative of how normal people are blind to the problems of the
feudal system, and that it would take a madman to see the issues behind how they are living. Lu Xun
uses the madman s fear of cannibalism in society to convey to readers his own fear of

polish the scratched surface with a buffing pad and high speed buffer.
Dab some automotive compound on the cloth, and lightly rub it on the scratch until a haze appears,
then buff the surface again. Repeat the process until the scratch has been removed.

Loss Of Innocence In To Kill A Mockingbird
Destroyed Innocence
Imagine this, you are a young child in Uganda, wars wage all around you. Different tribes are fighting
over territory, and everyone you once knew is either missing or killed. And although you don t quite
understand what death and suffering are, you are kidnapped and forced to join the local militia.
Unrecognizable men hold you at gunpoint and make you do tasks that they would never do
themselves. You fight gruesome battles. You watch children your age, no more than nine years old,
being shot by the enemy. You must grow up and learn the ways of battle or die.

During the trial against Tom Robinson, Jem is always mumbling to himself and explaining his point of
view. He believes wholeheartedly in the case and its injustice. While Mr. Ewell is testifying, Scout
observes, Jem seemed to be having quite a fit. He was pounding the balcony rail softly, and once he
whispered, We ve got him (Lee 238). Unlike Scout, Jem understands everything that is going on at the
trial. He distinguishes the wrong that was committed, and because of it, he has lost his blissful
thinking. He cared so deeply about the trial that when the jury gave their verdict Jem s reaction was
that his Hands were white from gripping the balcony rail, and his shoulders jerked as if each Guilty
was a separate stab between them (Lee 282). He witnessed the unjust actions of the Ewells and he is
defeated after his father loses the first hearing. Jem bears the loss just as much as Atticus, and Jem
becomes distressed. In the article that reviews the book, Stress and Child Development, the author,
Ross Thompson writes, Children s early social experiences shape their developing neurological and
biological systems for good or for ill. (Stress and child development) Just like how Jem experienced

when he and Scout are violently assaulted by Mr. Ewell with a knife. Jem s instinct kicks in as he

The Sun Also Rises Robert Cohn Quotes
As the novel progresses, Robert Cohn begins to fall for Brett. After their little excursion to San
Sebastian, Cohn begins to follow Brett around like a steer. Michael, Brett s finance, lays into Cohn
every time he follows her around. After a while of Cohn getting harassed, he loses it. He knocks both
Jake and Mike out cold. This action reveals how Cohn, the boxer from Princeton, physically displays
his dominance over the two due to the fact that they won t listen to what he has to say. Later when
Jake finds Cohn in his room, he is crying profusely. This reveals how emotionally scared he is from
Brett. Throughout the novel, Jake makes several degrading comments about Cohn and this helps

A majority of the characters in the novel experienced war first hand and suffered dire consequences.
Jake, the protagonist, was sterilized during the war leaving him to not be able to have intimate
relations with Brett. Brett, on the other hand, ignores social norms and has several romantic
relationships. She can not seem to settle down and the reason for this is due to the war and all of the
emotional baggage that went along with it. Several of the characters seem to forget who they truly
were and this can explain their lively social scene. A majority of the book takes place in bars,
restaurants, or at parties. The characters are metaphorical wandering around trying to remember who
they were before the war. World War I took away several character s livelihoods and left them to try to
consolidate their lives. War has not changed its ways over the years. The movie American Sniper is a
great example of this. The main character, Chris Kyle, is a skilled Navy SEAL and was the most lethal
sniper in American history. Throughout the film, Kyle experiences the horrors of war and soon returns
to the homeland. When he returns, he has a severe case of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and
has a hard time adjusting to civilian life. Back when Hemingway wrote The Sun Also Rises, PTSD did
not exist and people did not know the burden that veterans carry every single day. Whether it be Jake s

Similarities Between Jane Eyre And Chinese Cinderella
Both of the stimulus texts show the struggle of unwanted girls in different eras and countries and
explore the theme of orphans. Jane Eyre is known as one of the most famous orphans in literature,
therefore, the text would be ideal for the theme. The two texts: Chinese Cinderella and Jane Eyre,
share some similarities; Jane Eyre is an orphan living with her aunt, Mrs Reed, and although Adeline
lives with her father and her step mum she lives like an outsider just like Jane. In the autobiography
Adeline is treated poorly by her parents just like Jane Eyre is by Mrs Reed. Although, Adeline is not a
typical orphan she is treated as one by her father. I chose the theme of orphans because it was an

So I decided charity appeal to help less fortunate girls would be appropriate and an Ofsted report to
show the treatment of orphans in the Victorian era in a comedic manner.
The charity appeal targets parents, particularly women because they possess maternal instincts making
them more empathetic towards abandoned young girls because they can relate. The sole purpose of the
text is to persuade people to donate money to a charity which supports orphaned girls in China
because Adeline is Chinese. Alternatively, it was written to educate those unaware of mass amounts of
abandoned girls in China. The text is inspired primarily by Adeline Yen Mah s autobiography, Chinese
Cinderella. Yen Mah writes about her childhood, growing up as an unwanted child, If you had not

Simon As A Christ Figure Analysis
The Christ Figure
A Christ figure could be interpreted as an individual that is a manifestation or delegation of Jesus
Christ. It is apparent to distinguish a Christ like human from someone of common characteristics by
their alluring behavior. For instance, one could define this feature using appearance, personality, and
attitude. The Lord of the Flies is a novel that opens up with a plane departing a group of schoolboys
from Britain that had been shot down over a desolate island. Britain had been in the depths of a war
and these school kids go to extreme in means of survival. Initially, the boys relished the idea of not
having any adults with them until they had realized they could not possibly live without them for long.
Simon, one of the schoolboys on the island, was introduced as a spiritual, kind hearted
kid.Acknowledging he possess these components, Simon appears detached from the rest of the boys.
This essay will demonstrate how the novel portrays Simon as a Christ Figure by the way he performs
on the island, such as his seclusion and peaceful nature, his appearance, his actions towards the boys,
and his death.
Simon primarily is isolated from all that is occurring on the island. He portrays himself as one of the
sane boys considering the rest had exposed savage like demeanor from remaining on the island for an
extended amount of time. Simon paused. He looked over his shoulder as Jack had done at the close
ways behind him and glanced swiftly round to confirm

The Grandfather is the grotesque character in the short story for his age and for his experiences, and is
a link to a past that America wants to dissociate itself with. Since the grandfather is one hundred and
four years old and is a living relic of the civil war, specifically a piece of confederate memorabilia, his
granddaughter and most of the townspeople come close to worshipping him. The man is paraded
around, and then displayed in a roped off area to be shown to people during their confederate holiday
(O Connor 89). In truth the grandfather has no recollection of the civil war and most of his life in fact
he had probably been a foot soldier; he didn t remember what he had been; in fact, he didn t remember
that war at all. This is symbolic of a time that was long ago in the south that people boast about, but no

Key Elements In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross
Always the eaves creaked, tortured with a wordless prophecy; heedless of it all the clock ticked on in
idiot content. In the Painted Door, Sinclair Ross used motif to emphasize various key elements in the
story. He used repetition to fabricate a different profile for each of the three key characters. Another
key element enhanced by motif was the conflicts in the story. Finally, Ross used the iteration of ideas
to create a more animated atmosphere.
By using motif to create each individual character, Ross was able to create a unique personality for
each individual. The fire crackled indicated how Steven felt about Ann. It showed that Steven had a
burning desire to be with Ann. He went through the trouble of walking two miles in treacherous
conditions to come to Ann and John s house. He too had stable to look after and chores to do. After he
arrived he helped with the chores she was doing around the house. He then made it his mission to
make Ann believe that John wasn t coming back today. The clock ticked portrayed what type of

The Dire Wolf
The Dire Wolf
The species that is known as the dire wolf is a large and powerful ancestor of modern wolves and dogs
which is now extinct. It has, however, left a rich legacy in myths and legends across many northern
countries where it once roamed as one of the most feared predators of all time. This paper traces the
way that the dire wolf has been represented in myths and legends of the past, and also in the stories,
films and computer video games of the modern world. The exact species which gave rise to all the
legends is the Canis dirus and it lived in the Pleistocene Epoch (2.6 million to 11.700 years ago) in
both North and South America (Encyclopaedia Britannica, 2012, p. 1). It was considerably larger than

This game shows the dire wolf as both a fearful enemy and a loyal fighter in battle, and this reflects an
appreciation of its qualities to contribute towards good or evil outcomes. In the music genre, the band
Grateful Dead immortalized the dire wolf as six hundred pounds of sin which was grinning outside the
window at a hard drinking, hard gambling man. The chorus of the song don t murder me implies that
the dire wolf has come to take the man s life. The dire wolf symbolizes all the wrong that a person has
done in the past, and the likelihood that cruel retribution will come one day. These examples outlined
above have shown that the dire wolf has maintained its fascination for human beings long after its
extinction. Its combination of force, cruelty and cunning, along with enormous size, and tendency to
roam in packs serve as an example of power even in very harsh conditions. It has connotations of
majesty, and also cruelty, especially when dealing out justice and revenge. Even in the twenty first
century it has the power to cast fear into our modern imagination.

Accessibility and-or Usability in the Context of Web...
According to Pratt Nunes (2012), accessibility and/or usability in the context of web design and
computing are two closely related features. Their approaches, goals and guidelines closely overlap
each other, hence it is convenient to collectively consider them in web designing and content
development. However, it may be necessary to be specific sometimes especially when addressing the
issue of discrimination against those with disabilities or in defining the specific accessibility and
usability standards.
This paper addresses the synchronization of accessibility and usability particularly in the development
of accessible computer systems, which promotes usability of appropriate web content. Accessibility in
this case is concerned with ensuring a comparable user experience for all user regardless of their
ability and /or disability including age related impairments. This implies that an accessible system
should be easily understood, perceived, navigated and should interact with the user without barriers.
The access to information as well as access to efficient technology is a fundamental human right as
stipulated in the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities.
On the other hand, Seffah, Gulliksen Desmarais (2005) argue that usability revolves around the design
of products which are effective, efficient and user satisfying. This is an integral part of the process of
human computer interaction that is primarily user centered so as to yield positive user

Martin Luther King Letter From Birmingham Essay
In Dr. Martin Luther King Junior s Letter from Birmingham, he discusses that there are four basic
steps to nonviolent campaigning. There is the collection of facts to determine whether injustices are
alive; negotiation; self purification; and direct action. Civil disobedience and civil rights can be
directly related to these steps and the process of a nonviolent campaign. Civil disobedience is defined
as a form of political participation based on a conscious decision to break a law believed to be unjust
and to suffer the consequences. (Edwards 647) Martin Luther King Jr. may be the best example of a
civil rights activist. Dr. King came to the realization in his Letter from Birmingham that, Freedom is
never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Dr. King had found
that injustices are alive through his own personal experience of segregation and discrimination. He
was on his way to completing the first step in his own process of nonviolent campaigning. Specifically

other types of civil disobedience can also abolish unjust laws or practices (de jure and de facto).

The Cost Of Real Estate Essay
For the past several years, the housing market has been mutually beneficial for both buyer and seller.
The cost of real estate has risen but has maintained or gained value. People who have owned their
home for quite awhile are seeing astronomical amounts of money to be made off the sale of their
home, and so the market has been inundated with housing for sale. It leads us to wonder whether this
boom is heading for the crash. Is now still a good time to buy? If so, what type of property will
continue to gain value? Will new buyers end up stuck in their home as the value drops? As a
homeowner, I am nervous about the state of the real estate market. This is not the house my family
wants to call its home forever, but could we get stuck here? Yes, we could. If the housing market
drops, then so will the amount of money we could potentially make off the sale of this house. If it
drops enough then it would be possible to end up owing money upon the sale. Unless you are
independently wealthy, you hope to make money off the sale of the home to help finance the purchase
of the next home. Real estate agents will tell you that now is still a good time to buy. While it is
speculated that the market will drop within the next year or two, if you are willing to sit on your new
purchase for several years, an upswing will occur again. There is never any guarantee that you will
recoup the money paid for and put into a home. If you intend to purchase a home soon, it would be a
good idea to

Racism
Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but
has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has
become increasingly difficult to define . Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse
Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de
Benoist, 1999). Whenever there are people of different cultural and social characteristics introduced
into the mix, a recipe for racism and the hostilities it generates is created. Because racism defies a

In their zeal for prosperity, many countries have exploited lesser developed nations and their natural
resources as well as so called
inferior or primitive peoples for economic gain (Vorster, 2002).
This is how slavery and colonialism, which have too often flourished throughout history, became the
primary examples of racism or the development of the mentality that white (civilization) was right.
When this desire for wealth and the power it represented encouraged territorial expansion with a
vengeance, the enslavement of indigenous peoples throughout Africa in particular was justified until
well into the twentieth century. When Germany had suffered a staggering blow to its nationalist image
after its humiliating defeat in World War II, a crazed dictator named Adolf Hitler was able to satisfy
his lust for power and at the same time bring his vision of a supposedly superior
Aryan race eerily close to realization through genocide or the extermination of Eastern European
Jews.
The third and possibly most compelling cause of racism is collective fear (Vorster, 2002, p. 296). This
creates group solidarity particularly among minority groups and is centered around protecting their
own interests (Vorster, 2002). It is this fear that ignites feelings of prejudice, an emotional rather than
rational reaction to perceived biases (Vorster, 2002). These prejudices are formed by mistaken

How about the children from low income families, educated in schools such as Parramatta High? Don
t they deserve the same opportunity as those educated in private schools? Dr Watson concludes that
[public] schooling as it is presently delivered does little to alter the early distribution of educational
outcomes between social groups. In fact, the achievement gap between rich and poor students persists
in the early years of schooling and widens as they progress through the school system . Basic
schooling should support those who struggle as well as those who excel and it should start as Dr
Watson points out, at an early age. However, the 2006 OECD report shows that Australia spends less
than 1 per cent on early education (OECD report 2006). Children who don t have a sound start to
academic life are more likely to drop out of school before completing year 12, thus narrowing their
chance of employment. A report conducted by the Brotherhood of St Laurence on children aged 16
shows that of those who came from a low income family, only 84 per cent were considering
completing year 12, compared to one hundred per cent of those who came of high income parents. Of
those planning to finish year 12 and go on to university, a high percentage was attending non

Essay On Spanking
Parents have the privilege and responsibility of shaping their child s behavior in a positive direction.
To help teach children to be responsible and less destructive, most parents use spanking as a way to
correct the child. Parents who oppose spanking suppose that spankings can lead to physical abuse.
Many parents believe that they should not discipline their children by spanking; however, spanking for
disciplinary measure is a necessary teachable moment for children.
Corporal punishment is using physical pain in response to behavior that has been deemed

fearing the paddle, which she says is a good thing. When the crime meets the punishment, she feels
that there would be fewer bad children if more parents did spank. In one year, ninety four percent of
three and four year olds have been spanked. Seventy four percent of mothers think spanking is alright

spanking is barbaric basing it off of abuses rather than the biblical model. Many parents who think
that way have problems at home including conflicts all the time, loss of control, and no way to fix the
problems. Since opposers buy into the stereotypical model of spanking where out of control parents
and religious extremists beat children instead of disciplining them, they reject the entire idea. Because
parents do not know how to spank, they think spanking should not be done at all (Ingram 3), but The

  • 2. Zero Turn Mowers They all have four tires, an engine, and a mowing deck, but are they any different from the rest? It seems like zero turn mowers are growing in popularity every year. Not only do they make quick work of large mowing areas, they are a blast to operate. Professionals have been using them for years to cut tight spaces and large lawns with ease. Zero turn radius (ZTR) means that you can turn on a dime with ease. That is, you stay in the same place while your mower is turning. Because of this, they don t leave a circle of uncut grass that would normally require a second pass. Some companies claim that a zero turn mower can cut your mowing time in half. I would have to agree with this statement. That also means less fuel usage and less wear and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. My Opinion On Teaching Style Essay My biggest issue with the way that most English classes are taught, not only in college, but at all education levels is that they don t necessarily teach people how to write. Rather, they teach the students how other people have written. I came into this class hoping that maybe I would receive the opportunity to write my own fiction writing, which maybe does not interest the majority of students, but for me is something I looked forward to as someone who considered himself to be full of at least some worthwhile ideas. This semester was interesting and educational but not entirely my ideal learning choice. Maybe creative writing is the better path to take for dreams like mine, but that is not the point of this paper. The unit that I found the most lacking that I think could benefit the most from this teaching style that I have in my brain is definitely the third, Setting and Symbol. I picked this because of the large amount of potential to be found with those two words. Setting is often what draws people in. Sure a round character or two sprinkled into a book will net you a few people reading, but a fully immersive setting and engrossing world will draw people in for decades. If you don t believe me, see Harry Potter for inspiration. Whereas a strong symbol can be used to communicate meaning in ways that no other form of idea transferring device can. If you find yourself in a debate with someone over anything often it is difficult to win and sway them to your view, however if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Freud s Developmental Stages Essay Freud held strong beliefs about the roles of sex, procreation and the death drive within human psychological development and developmental problems. A brief summary of Freudian developmental stages: Birth 1 year: Oral Stage. This stage is concerned with the mouth and how the baby feeds i.e. sucking and is weaned on and from mothers milk. He called this libido and refers to it as the driving force. When the baby changes from sucking to biting this indicates the time for weaning and the next stage which is solid food. Freud believes that if this is done to abruptly it can cause trauma and inhibit healthy progression. The individual could suffer from difficulties with food, oral behaviours such as smoking, gossip and other more aggressive verbal ... Age 3 6 years: The phallic stage. At the core of this stage we see the child begin to learn about other people around them and the roles they play, as children often learn by mimicking or copying they begin to do that with the same sex role models according to Freud, although in the modern world this is not so clear cut as there are many single sex parents and same gender parents raising families, which back then would not have been accepted. However, as the child becomes more aware of their genitals they will become increasingly curious about sexual differences. This is a very important stage in psychological development. There are some differing accounts about what the Oedipal complex truly represents but it is clear it is a time of confusion for a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Counselor Identity Report Essay Abstract Often in life it is important for us to reflect on what career path we will take. It helps to better define who we are as individuals, what we stand for, it allows others to know your background, why you are so passionate about it, and why you chose to follow a certain path in life. This paper will answer several of these questions as we delve into wondering when was the first time I recall an individual applying counseling skills with me, my feelings, and the outcome of the encounter, and how has that influenced my counseling perspective. We will identify what I believe is the best type of help for me when I am in a personal crisis. Describe the first time that I considered counseling as a career and what was happening in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everything about it just clicked. I feel that a professional counselor should have several ideal personal attributes. They should be astounding listeners. Counselors should also hold themselves to a very high ethical standard, even in their own personal lives. Additional counselor attributes, skills and techniques that have been identified as important to the counseling process include, congruence, concreteness, immediacy, paraphrasing, reflection, problem solving, challenge, confrontation, and positive nonverbal communication (Pope Davis, 2002, p 356). A counselor should also explore and practice getting started, contracting, gathering information, eliciting the client s story, and being sensitive to the timing of interventions. (Pope Davis, 2002, p 356). I am equipped with the ability to thoroughly and effectively listen. It is not just about hearing what the client is saying. You have to also be able to listen to what the client is not saying. All too many times do we ask others How are you today? It takes someone with a sixth sense to truly feel if that person is saying what they mean. I definitely feel this and am able to empathize with my clients. I also feel that a counselor should have a way about themselves where they appear strong and flawless. They must be the one the client tries to emulate. • 7. What Does The Eye Of The Storm Mean Studs Terkel (1980) relates C. P. Ellis story about how his experiences organizing a union opened his eyes about how corporations treat minorities, and resulted in a new understanding of the people around him even though he was a former Klansman. I have never been in the Klan or organized a union, but a similar turning point for me came for me when I saw the movie The Eye of the Storm, about Jane Elliot s experiment with white schoolchildren in Riceville, Iowa. This experiment demonstrated to me how children respond to cultural cues first from their parents and family members, but then through the institutions they are forced to participate in like school; the church; other families and supervisory agencies. If even white children can be taught to discriminate against other white children on something as arbitrary and insubstantial as eye color, then how easy it must be to train them to respond in denigrating ways to people with different skin color, body shapes or language for example, I realized. This changed my perspective on racism and ethnicity and while I have since done much research and believe education is the secret, the way I have decided to implement change in my own life, is to speak out when I hear someone making a denigrating comment. This goes back to what I learned from The Eye of the Storm, where if people accept certain behaviors as normal, as the children in Ms. Elliot s class were trained to do, then they become so reinforced as to turn into norms ... • 8. A Psychodynamic Treatment Approach Essay Susanna would benefit most from a psychodynamic treatment approach, with a specific emphasis on clarification, confrontation, and interpretation/transference interpretation. As highlighted by McWilliams (1999), recurrent themes emerge within the therapy which constitute the client s internal and external world. With this in mind, Susanna s internal object relations would undoubtedly unfold in the relationship with the therapist. As Susanna evidences a lack of insight, it will be the therapist s responsibility to clarify Susanna s experiences for her. In this view, clarification refers to the reformulation of the patient s verbalizations to convey a more coherent view of what is being communicated. The therapist may want to clarify what it was like in Susanna s household growing up, and gather further information on Susanna s romantic relationships. Clarifying sentiments might include you stated that at times you felt loved by your mother, and hated at other times, but overall do you feel that your mother loves you? While this technique alone will not lead to therapeutic change, it will be essential for helping Susanna develop a rapport with the therapist, and establishing a therapeutic alliance. As borderline pathology is characterized by negative affects, and impulsive, dangerous behavior, the therapist s ability to keep Susanna in treatment will be essential. The therapist can do this by presenting him/herself non judgmentally, as well showing Susanna that s/he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of Dashiell Hammett s The House On Turk Street Set against the backdrop of San Francisco during the Roaring 1920 s, Dashiell Hammett s The House on Turk Street invokes classic images of the courageous and hardened crime fighter enveloped by the ubiquitous reach of organized crime. Mr. Hammett draws inspiration from his own experiences both as a young man working for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency and his time serving in the Army (PBS, 1). The story, a pristine specimen of the hardboiled detective genre, captures not only the edge of your seat emotions of mystery, but also the grueling realism and brutality of organized crime. Despite my overwhelmingly positive response to the story, it is not a flawless work. Mr. Hammett occasionally relies too heavily on seemingly self resolving circumstances within the storyline, making scenarios too convenient for the characters and leaving the reader frustrated by the lack of suspense. Also of concern is that, while the periphery characters are plentifully described and develop harmoniously throughout the story, Mr. Hammett often leaves the reader yearning for a more profound development of the Continental Op. Beyond these sudden revolutions and shallow descriptions, The House in Turk Street is a fantastic read that is exciting, intelligent, and a quintessential piece of American noir fiction. Mr. Hammett begins his story by introducing a Continental Op (a detective) who had been told that man whom I was hunting lived in a certain Turk Street block (Hammett, 3). The ... • 11. Depression And Guilt In Lovely Bones By Alice Sebold Lovely Bones Essay Heaven is comfort, but it s still not living. Alice Sebold. Alice Sebold the author of Lovely Bones creates a story of depression, guilt, and grief with the murder of Susie Salmons. In Lovely Bones the death of Susie affects all those close to her, like her mother, her father and her classmates. Her father grieves with despair as the murderer has yet to be caught. Her mother can not handle her disappearance and finds unnerving ways to cope. Susie s classmates, Ruth and Ray both find ways to cope with each other and through other connections with Susie. A death of a loved young one is one no one is ever ready for. The grief starts and people find ways to feel guilty. If no mental aid is present the associates will ... We ve just built a tent, Mr.Harvey said. The neighbors saw us. We re friends now You know something, my father said. (57). Jack, like everyone else has flaws and his stubbornness leads him to doing something he would not normally do. His unextinguishable passion to find Susie s murderer leads him to coincidently believe that Mr.Harvey is Susie s killer. However Mr.Harvey is the murderer of Susie, the evidence shown to Jack and the police show no evidence that Mr.Harvey committed the murder, which further proves that Jack is chasing a blank slate. Jack needs a scapegoat for his grief and chooses to find revenge in unproven subjects. A father s suspicion she began. Is as powerful as a mother s intuition (87) says Jack. Once again Jack is trying to find a reason to make his illogical suspicion logical. Jack refuses to believe that Susie s death occurred without a killer. He puts himself in denial and by doing so he will grieve forever. Jack s perpetual grief will go on as long he finds things to place guilt on. Furthermore Sebold shows that rage and denial can be used to deal with the death of a loved one. To follow, one can choose to resort to another lover or to isolate themselves from their family. Susie s mother, Abigail may have been the one who took Susie s death with greatest impact. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Factors That Shape An Individual s Self Concept Essay lf concept refers to the mental image or idea that an individual holds regarding themselves. An individuals self concept continually develops in each of the life stages and is seen to be closely related to the social as well as the emotional development. As such, a person views themselves differently depending on the environment in which they are. Self concept in an individual takes various steps to being formed. The most important step is the initial one which happens while one is still a child. Here, an individual learns how to differentiate their own body and the rest of the world. At this stage, a child gets to learn that there are some things which are always there whereas others do come and then go away. The various factors that shape an individuals self concept therefore are: FAMILY The family is an important social unit that plays a great role in developing an individual s self concept. The first kind of relationships that one develops is within the family context. Attachments with parents and close family members are built at this level and as a child, one acquires a sense of security and feelings of love. The bonds created at the family level are key in the development of positive self concept. To the parents, positive labeling for example continually telling a child that he is creative or bright is a factor that could work in building their self concept while constantly labeling a child as being stupid has a high likelihood of damaging the child s ... • 16. Cultural Impacts Of Tourism Development SOCILAAND CULTURAL IMPACTS OF TOURISM DEVELOPMENT The discourse concerning the impacts of tourism in national development, economic and otherwise, has had both negative and positive connotations. Societies hosting tourist attractions are frequently seen as the victims of the negative effects of tourism while the tourists seen as the perpetrators of the crime; bringing their culture and values and imposing them on the host societies. While these generally accepted stereotypical thoughts may be true in some instances, it is however misleading to hold these notions regarding the changes in the social and cultural aspects of a society. Whereas socio cultural changes may in part be due to tourism, it can also be due to other modernization and global factors such as international trade relations, military actions, migration etc (Sharpley R. and Telfer D., 2002). Concerning tourism development, the socio cultural changes which occur in the community are more often than not seen as negative, with the positive contributions been underplayed or totally ignored. Though it is difficult to measure the influence of tourism on socio cultural changes, the extent of the impact can be determined by the change in value and logic system, religious beliefs, tradition, lifestyle, behavioural patterns, etc (Inskeep, 1991). The relationship between tourism development and social and cultural characteristics of a society is non linear; as well as negative effects, tourism development can also have ... However, to succeed in making a good game, it must be enjoyable and must include many different aspects. Through researching, several of the most common and important aspects that a game should have to include to be a good game have been found. The most regularly mentioned aspects of what makes a good game are: Challenge/Reward Freedom Experience Place/Feel Story Challenge/Reward Challenge should be implemented in every game to make it more exciting and engage the player more. They should not be impossible although should be difficult enough to make the player think and construct a strategy or method to surpass them. Challenge should often come with a reward for completing them so that the player will feel more motivated to complete them. Rather than just points, money etc. as rewards; rewards such as new abilities, a new part of the map to explore, a new item or even a new task can be given. These rewards are motivating and also help to keep the player enjoying the game through side quests/challenges, instead of just playing the game to win. Freedom Freedom includes the range of different choices and paths that can be made to complete an objective. For example, going through the front door can attract a lot of attention while the side door will not. You can choose whether you want a huge gunfight between you and the enemy or rather take a stealthy approach. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. A Madman s Diary By Lu Xun Analysis Many authors use their work to express their thoughts about the flaws in the societies in which they live. Lu Xun masks his criticisms of the once feudal society in China in his story, A Madman s Diary, by comparing the feudalistic society to cannibalism. The story begins with the narrator going to visit two brothers. Upon arrival, the narrator learns that the younger of the two brothers has recently been cured of madness, and moved away. The older sibling offers the narrator his brother s diary for the narrator to read. Even though the madman is currently terrified of the society he is living in, he shows hope for a better future. In the last diary entry, he ponders the possibility of the nature of this society changing. He questions whether or not there are children who have not consumed other people. He says that the children need to be saved from the nature of this society of consuming other people to live. This represents Lu Xun s belief that the feudalistic society can change if the ways of that society are not taught to the children and that he has hope for the future of society. ...The narrator cultivates and maintains the courage to hope that the future for the children of China will be separate from the past (Laws 51). Lu Xun conveys a sense of hope for a better future in China through the madman s hope in the story. The madman is the only one who is truly aware of the problems of the society that they live in. However, it may be necessary to be specific sometimes especially when addressing the issue of discrimination against those with disabilities or in defining the specific accessibility and usability standards. This paper addresses the synchronization of accessibility and usability particularly in the development of accessible computer systems, which promotes usability of appropriate web content. Accessibility in this case is concerned with ensuring a comparable user experience for all user regardless of their ability and /or disability including age related impairments. This implies that an accessible system should be easily understood, perceived, navigated and should interact with the user without barriers. The access to information as well as access to efficient technology is a fundamental human right as stipulated in the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities. On the other hand, Seffah, Gulliksen Desmarais (2005) argue that usability revolves around the design of products which are effective, efficient and user satisfying. This is an integral part of the process of human computer interaction that is primarily user centered so as to yield positive user ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Martin Luther King Letter From Birmingham Essay In Dr. Martin Luther King Junior s Letter from Birmingham, he discusses that there are four basic steps to nonviolent campaigning. There is the collection of facts to determine whether injustices are alive; negotiation; self purification; and direct action. Civil disobedience and civil rights can be directly related to these steps and the process of a nonviolent campaign. Civil disobedience is defined as a form of political participation based on a conscious decision to break a law believed to be unjust and to suffer the consequences. (Edwards 647) Martin Luther King Jr. may be the best example of a civil rights activist. Dr. King came to the realization in his Letter from Birmingham that, Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Dr. King had found that injustices are alive through his own personal experience of segregation and discrimination. He was on his way to completing the first step in his own process of nonviolent campaigning. Specifically in Birmingham, there was vast unjust treatment of African ... There is the collection of facts to determine whether injustices are alive; negotiation; self purification; and direct action. Dr. King himself exemplified this process while leading other civil rights activists. He was successful on many occasions, especially in his famous march from Selma to Montgomery. Nonviolent campaigning is a form of civil disobedience and can directly help retain, acquire, or reform civil liberties and civil rights. Nonviolent campaigning and other types of civil disobedience can also abolish unjust laws or practices (de jure and de facto). • 35. The Cost Of Real Estate Essay For the past several years, the housing market has been mutually beneficial for both buyer and seller. The cost of real estate has risen but has maintained or gained value. People who have owned their home for quite awhile are seeing astronomical amounts of money to be made off the sale of their home, and so the market has been inundated with housing for sale. It leads us to wonder whether this boom is heading for the crash. Is now still a good time to buy? If so, what type of property will continue to gain value? Will new buyers end up stuck in their home as the value drops? As a homeowner, I am nervous about the state of the real estate market. This is not the house my family wants to call its home forever, but could we get stuck here? Yes, we could. If the housing market drops, then so will the amount of money we could potentially make off the sale of this house. If it drops enough then it would be possible to end up owing money upon the sale. Unless you are independently wealthy, you hope to make money off the sale of the home to help finance the purchase of the next home. Real estate agents will tell you that now is still a good time to buy. While it is speculated that the market will drop within the next year or two, if you are willing to sit on your new purchase for several years, an upswing will occur again. There is never any guarantee that you will recoup the money paid for and put into a home. If you intend to purchase a home soon, it would be a good idea to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Racism Racism is a term that is often used to describe a variety of social, culture and economic problems, but has, unfortunately, acquired so many contradictory meanings that it takes on the aura of a myth, it has become increasingly difficult to define . Although the term wasn t officially featured in the Larousse Dictionary until 1932, racism had been a dark cloud hanging over the global horizon for centuries (de Benoist, 1999). Whenever there are people of different cultural and social characteristics introduced into the mix, a recipe for racism and the hostilities it generates is created. Because racism defies a singular definition but is usually represented by the categorizing of people according to certain criteria, it can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their zeal for prosperity, many countries have exploited lesser developed nations and their natural resources as well as so called inferior or primitive peoples for economic gain (Vorster, 2002). This is how slavery and colonialism, which have too often flourished throughout history, became the primary examples of racism or the development of the mentality that white (civilization) was right. When this desire for wealth and the power it represented encouraged territorial expansion with a vengeance, the enslavement of indigenous peoples throughout Africa in particular was justified until well into the twentieth century. When Germany had suffered a staggering blow to its nationalist image after its humiliating defeat in World War II, a crazed dictator named Adolf Hitler was able to satisfy his lust for power and at the same time bring his vision of a supposedly superior Aryan race eerily close to realization through genocide or the extermination of Eastern European Jews. The third and possibly most compelling cause of racism is collective fear (Vorster, 2002, p. 296). This creates group solidarity particularly among minority groups and is centered around protecting their own interests (Vorster, 2002). It is this fear that ignites feelings of prejudice, an emotional rather than rational reaction to perceived biases (Vorster, 2002). These prejudices are formed by mistaken ... Social class affects one s life chance across a broad range of social occurrence from education achievement to health care to contact with the criminal justice system. This essay will argue that class has a remarkable impact on the life chances of an individual. It will further expostulate that high outcomes in academic performance in Australia is more prevalent on students from the high rank of hierarchy than those from poor families, that health issues are more profound in people from lower socioeconomic, and that youth from disadvantaged background are more likely to commit a criminal act. Don t they deserve the same opportunity as those educated in private schools? Dr Watson concludes that [public] schooling as it is presently delivered does little to alter the early distribution of educational outcomes between social groups. In fact, the achievement gap between rich and poor students persists in the early years of schooling and widens as they progress through the school system . Basic schooling should support those who struggle as well as those who excel and it should start as Dr Watson points out, at an early age. However, the 2006 OECD report shows that Australia spends less than 1 per cent on early education (OECD report 2006). Children who don t have a sound start to academic life are more likely to drop out of school before completing year 12, thus narrowing their chance of employment. A report conducted by the Brotherhood of St Laurence on children aged 16 shows that of those who came from a low income family, only 84 per cent were considering completing year 12, compared to one hundred per cent of those who came of high income parents. Of those planning to finish year 12 and go on to university, a high percentage was attending non government schools. • 39. Essay On Spanking Parents have the privilege and responsibility of shaping their child s behavior in a positive direction. To help teach children to be responsible and less destructive, most parents use spanking as a way to correct the child. Parents who oppose spanking suppose that spankings can lead to physical abuse. Many parents believe that they should not discipline their children by spanking; however, spanking for disciplinary measure is a necessary teachable moment for children. Corporal punishment is using physical pain in response to behavior that has been deemed inappropriate. The AAP defines spanking as striking a child with an open hand on the buttocks or extremities with the intention of modifying behavior without causing physical injury (Jones ... A child will respect authority when they know every wrongdoing gets some kind of physical consequence, and the child will not repeat bad behaviors by reinforcement (1). A mother remembers fearing the paddle, which she says is a good thing. When the crime meets the punishment, she feels that there would be fewer bad children if more parents did spank. In one year, ninety four percent of three and four year olds have been spanked. Seventy four percent of mothers think spanking is alright for kids one to three (O Callaghan 1). Compared to non parents, parents view physical punishment as more common than people without children (Marcus 2 3). Majority of the population thinks that spanking is barbaric basing it off of abuses rather than the biblical model. Many parents who think that way have problems at home including conflicts all the time, loss of control, and no way to fix the problems. Since opposers buy into the stereotypical model of spanking where out of control parents and religious extremists beat children instead of disciplining them, they reject the entire idea. Because parents do not know how to spank, they think spanking should not be done at all (Ingram 3), but The Bible never implies that the rod of discipline should be violent ...
