Camerapixo Photography Magazine
■ The front cover for this magazine is very simplistic and minimalistic and this is because this magazine is
very focused on the content itself and this means that the audience for the magazine is very niche and
most of the readers for this magazine will go out of their way to find the magazine and it is less of a
magazine that is there to attract a higher volume of readers. It doesn't use a lot of magnet words that
grab the readers attention, it lets the images speak for itself.
■ The magazine itself doesn't promote any competitions or free items that are with the magazine its just
the magazine that you get. They don’t try and draw in a reader by promising them free stuff or a chance
to win some money or a prize.
■ The image that is used for the front cover is very peaceful and uses very warm colours that put the
reader at ease as they aren't colours that are used for danger, instead the pictures are full of the colours
yellow and orange which signify happiness, joy and creativity. These are
also things that are prominent in photography as most photographs taken
are of happy times or they are creatively taken to show the emotions of
the photographer.
■ In the bottom right of the magazine cover there are some blobs and stars
in the shapes of boxes that have some example photos
that show off some talent without going into the magazine itself, it also
helps to give the reader an idea of what the content of the magazine is going
to be.
Camerapixo Photography Magazine -
Continued For this magazine the only real writing/article in the magazine is an article on page 4-5 and the article
talks about the special guest in this issue of the photography magazine, the article gives a short summary
of how the special guest became a photographer, it also talks about his more recent engagements such
as him and his girlfriend/assistant being the ‘DreamTeam’ when it comes to photos for the websiteTahiti
Zoom which is a photography database for French Polynesia.
 On the second page of the spread there is a collage of pictures which are similar to the topic of French
Polynesia. This magazine is very beautiful as it is very minimalistic and doesn't have a lot of different parts
of the magazine shouting at you and drawing your attention to different places, the magazine lets you
focus on the smaller details.
 There are different styles to the photographs are foreshadowing to the photos that are in the magazine
itself because there are photos inside that magazine that follow the same type of colour grading and style
as some of the photos from the magazine itself.
Camerapixo Photography Magazine -
Continued■ The website landing page is very minimalistic and this matches the aesthetic of the magazine
perfectly as there isn't much to the magazine as it is so the choice to make the website similar
really compliments the magazine and makes the continuity between the magazine and
website very nice and smooth as both of the pieces of media are very minimalistic. The
magazine is a collaboration between the people who subscribe and special guest
photographers, the first 12 to 20 pages are dedicated to the special guest, then after that the
magazine is dedicated the the people who pay a membership to Camerapixo and publish
photos as they have a chance to be published in the magazine. There is a similar sort of theme
with the landing page for the Camerapixo website, as each time you launch the website there is
a different background picture selected from all of the photos that have been uploaded by
people with memberships. This also has continuity with the magazine is about getting inspired
and to go and shoot pictures and publish them and get
discovered.
Photography News
■ This is the cover for the magazine, this is a much more traditional style magazine, as at the top of the
magazine there is a masthead, and covering the front cover is multiple articles that cover different topics
in the photography world, in the middle of the magazine there is 2 main articles, one of which is
advertising for a Camera Club of theYear Competition and the other main article is about a new camera
so is more of a cover line that might draw people in. there are also some magnet words that are being
used to draw people in such as ‘Free’ and ‘Win’, these words catch the readers attention and make them
think what can I get for ‘free’ from this magazine.
■ The masthead for the magazine is very minimalistic as it just black and white and the font itself is not
very fancy and is very blocky and ‘boring’, but in the masthead there is a one word in
yellow and that word is free and this helps with the magnet effect and drawing
the reader to that part of the magazine. Underneath the masthead there is 4 sneak
peaks at articles within the magazine itself.
■ At the bottom of the magazine there is an advert for a Samsung Portable SSD, this
will be one of the main ways that the magazine will makes money as the
companies will pay the magazine to be put into the magazine and be shown as
something positive.
Photography News - Continued
■ This double page spread is an advert hidden as a product feature, in the double page spread the
magazine reviews the Canon EOS 77D camera, they talk about all the good features of the camera and
how they will help you as a photographer, the language that the magazine uses is very direct and this
helps the reader imagine themselves with the camera and then as they see themselves with the camera
they would be more inclined to buy the camera as they have already imagined themselves with the
camera so it seems more reasonable to buy it when they are there.
■ The double page spread uses very few colours and this to help focus the reader on the key parts of the
article, they use red and white to help focus the reader, they have used red as it is an impulse colour and
makes the want to act quickly and in this case it draws the readers attention to the subtitles which then
leads onto the small print underneath the subtitle and this gives them more information. I think they
also used red and white because that is Canon’s colour scheme and all of their products have the red and
white logo. Also the red brand name in the top top left and right makes
people think of Canon as all of the accessories that come with their
cameras have the red brand name on it.
Photography News - Continued
■ The website for Photography News is very similar to the magazine itself as in the style of the website is
very minimalistic, the banner at the top of the website is black and white which is the opposite of the
magazine masthead but still portrays the minimalism in each media. The website landing page has a
similar look and layout to the magazine, with the main article in the middle of the page, then there are 4
articles for the reader to choose from. The layouts have similar aspects and this makes the website and
the magazine seem more similar and linked more.
■ The use of the red background on the article makes the readers eyes drawn to the article as the red is an
eye catching colour, the article also taking up the majority of the screen draws the readers attention
because it takes up the majority of the screen so they are drawn to it.
■ The font for this website is very similar to the font that the Photography News magazine uses, this is
probably so that there is continuity between the magazine and the website and the readers of the
magazine will recognize the website and see that the font is the
same so they will know that it is the same publisher.
NME Magazine
 This magazine front cover is very simplistic in layout as there is not a lot going on in the frame of the magazine, there
is the main picture which is Princess Nokia and the photo is composed so that she is looking directly at the reader,
this Direct Address makes the reader think that the magazine was made for them because the main subject of the
magazine is addressing them.
 The colours that NME have used are very bright and vivid, NME have used these colours as they catch the readers
attention, the yellow and black contrast each other so they make the title itself pop out. Then in the top corner of the
magazine there is a red blob which has the words ‘Music’, ‘Film’ and ‘Style’, this could give context to a new reader
what is going to be the content of the magazine. The background colour of the picture on the front cover is a light
blue and the colour of herself and the t-shirt compliment the light background.
 The blocky font of the magazine means that the the magazine has a wider audience as the font
is easier to read so this makes it more accessible to the general public.
NME Magazine – Continued
■ The double page spread for NME’s magazine is very much focused on the same person
as the front cover, one of the pages is taken up completely by a collage apart from the
pull quote in the middle and the beginning of the article in the bottom right, then to
break up the article and to make it seem like its not just a big block of text they have a
banner in the second page that talks about some of the other articles within the
magazine, then in the top right of the second page there is a picture of Princess Nokia
with another pull quote underneath it.
NME Magazine – Continued
■ The website for NME is very much like the magazine as the front is very minimalistic
and instead of having a vibrant colour scheme the website opts for a more bland but
eye catching monochrome scheme this helps with the minimalistic scheme. And all
the banners and text are also very minimalistic as the banners are white are the text is
black in a Sans Serif type face. The website also follows a style with the column for
articles the article has two stories all the way down so there are two columns and this
style is easy to read.
