During my research, I viewed and analysed a total of three
different music videos in order to get a better idea of how I
could structure my own music video, what effects I could
include in my music video to better convey the genre and
pace of the song, due to my chosen song lacking in certain
areas such as narrative, scenery depiction or even variation
of lyrics, due to there only being two verses and the chorus
being sustained significantly longer (which I noted in my
structural breakdown). When analysing said videos, I made
sure to include why I had chosen that specific video, what
effects used in the video I could implement into my own
work and even aspects of the videos that I had chosen to
disregard in order to focus more on the effects I thought
would better benefit my product during production.
However, after looking at my chosen videos, I believe I
could have branched out more when selecting these videos
as, although Products 1 and 3 do highlight my main
concern over using stock footage for the main makeup of
my video and how to overcome the limitations this may
present, the products in question seem to merely be
copies of each other, mainly in terms of song style and
pacing, which in turn may have limited my final plans as I
had not seen how stock footage could be used with the
rock/punk genre I had selected as having only seen it a
slow paced-romantic style song setting. In future, I will be
sure to research products that have a more closer
connection to my desired plan/outcome rather than just
picking products based on one asset I hope to use and
disregard the rest.

4. Planning
For this area of my project, I have made sure to complete
all areas such as my Initial Plans, my Proposal, my Pre-
Production and my Production Experiments. For each of
these specific areas I have made sure to include both
explanatory and visual areas of the planning processes, one
main example being the images of my storyboard and the
explanation of each part and what it will actually entail in
the final product. I have also made sure to go into detail
about important areas such as how my video will appeal to
the audience addressed in the brief and the overall concept
of my video and how it will work with my chosen song.
During my Initial Plans, I also made sure to praise and
critique my outlined ideas and made sure to think more
realistically on which areas or ideas were more attainable
based on what effects and equipment were availible to me
and also my own abilities at this point in the year. Lastly, I
have made sure to take into account what effects or skills I
would like to use in my final filming and production and
made sure I learnt how to achieve them by utilising said
skills in my Production Experiments in order to practice.
However, many areas of my planning could benefit from
improvements, such as I could have changed how I
executed my camera angle experiment, such as shooting
people/moving focuses rather than focusing on the one
area that I did whilst filming, more detail could have been
added to my Pre-Production location and shot list as even
though both were limited, I could have benefitted from a
more detailed set up plan so filming certain scenes
wouldn't have to be rushed or I would be able to set up all
areas beforehand. Lastly, I believe that my bibliography
grouped with my proposal could have been more varied in
terms of the products I had listed as the majority of
the products were already listed in previous PowerPoints.

5. Time Management
Throughout my project, I have successfully managed my
time effectivly through the use of various planning
documents and completing all areas of production in their
requied time frame. This is mainly due to the fact that I
completed the main aspect of the proposal in my own time
outside of college, leaving more time to complete the
remainder of my production before starting the filming and
editing process in the following weeks, even though this
may have alterred the plan in some way, I managed to fill in
the extra time at college by continually going through my
remaining production powerpoints and making sure to add
more details to features like my concept board or my
storyboard in order to better benefit my idea generation
and to give me a better idea of how my finished product
should look.
However, I could have used this spare time more effectivly,
esspecially in terms of finding my required stock footage
for when the production process had started in the
following week, as I ended up finding all my required
footage throughout the entire production week rather than
beforehand, which in future, I will try to do more in my
own time so to leave me more time for editing and
compiling the footage together during the production
week. If I did have more time to complete this project, I
would have probably allocated a set amount of time to
collecting the stock footage I needed or that I could
hypothetically use during production and then during the
editing process, I could spend more time on adding the
effects I needed and working out the placements of my clip
in order to correlate/link better to my storyboard and
overall video plan.

6. Technical Qualities - camera
I have mainly used filmed shots similar to
the original "Song 2" to create a homage
to the original video, most notably the
wide shots and close ups used in the lip
sync scenes

I, unlike the original video, have
incorporated varying shots such as stock
footage or the "forest scenes" seen in
the second verse of the video, whereas
the shots for the original video are all set
on one location and one group of people
The original video seems to keep a
clear focus on the band and them
playing/singing the song, whereas
my video is far more abstract and
incorporates a lot of varying
imagery
Unlike the original music video, I
didn't have access to or include any
filmed special effects, as seen at
the end of the video with the band
members crashing into the studio
walls so all the effects I used were
created in editing.
The mis-en-scene used when
filming both videos seems to vary
as in my video, I have tried to
create a stronger link to the genre

mis-en-scene in the original video
seems to almost be more casual

seems to have also been sed to an
extent to show an almost dim
interior or exterior, possibly helping
to convey more of the song's
grunge like style

7. Technical Qualities – editing/post
My Video Original "Song 2" Video
I seem to have used more editing effects
in my video than the original video,
which can be seen throughout the main
body of the video
The way I have edited some of my clips
have been used to make the footage
more fast paced in order to reflect the
pace of the song, whereas the original
video seems to utilize more slow-motion
editing
The most noticeable editing effect I have
used has been the saturated color effect,
whereas the original video's quality
already had the saturated look due to
the cameras of the time.
My video also seems to utilise more of
cutting to the beat than the original
video and reflects it in a more noticable
way whereas the original video seems to
repetativly use the same kind of shots in
the same environment.
When editing the start and end of my music
video, I created some kind of narrative in
my music video (being that the entire song
is playing on a viynl record), whereas the
original video seems to have no narrative at
all throughout, with the video only focusing
on the band playing the song

8. Technical Qualities
Overall, most of my filming techniques and decisions worked quite well in forming the basis of my
music video and also creating the intertextual links my video needed. Mainly the lip syncing shots I
took worked well in relation to the overall editing process as not only could I use these shots for
both song verses but near the end when there seemed to be a lack of stock footage, I was able to
use the wide shots I had taken and intergrate them into my project in a way that correlated with the
rest of the video. Another notable aspect of my editing process that seemed to work is the way I
have altered the colour saturation in most of the clips present in the video in order to give them a
look similar to early 2000 video footage. Aside from the main goal of creating a homage to the
original music video, a lot of the other qualities I have added also work well in conveying to the
audience the type of song, the pacing and keeps them more entertained, mainly from my use of
cutting to the beat and selected certain stock footage that better conveyed the tempo of the song or
that specific beat, for example the candle being blown out right before the first main chorus starts.
However, the main problem with my video is that some of the footage could be considered
overedited, good examples of this being the second verse lip sync scenes, where I have not only
used the effects of the first verse scenes but also added a skull effect over it or how I have added the
saturation effect to nearly all of my footage, making the footage appear more obscure or
misconstrued. In future project, I will make it a point to analyze footage that I have edited and make
a more level headed decision on how much editing is needed or if even necessary rather than just
rushing the process altogether.

9. Aesthetic Qualities
The look of my filmed footage
does work well in relation to the
rest of the stock footage as I made
sure to edit them in a similar
fashion
On reflection, one might say that I
have overedited some of the shots,
especially the close up shots of the
second verse, where I have not only
added the colour saturation, but also
the static effect and the skull effect,
which may not work in relation to the
other close ups included in the video.
In future, I will make sure to review
added effects in clips and critique it
accordingly.
The images used that correlate to
the song do look good and
noticeable in the final project,
such as the shots of the
instruments playing at the
beginning of the song
The video does work well as a
homage to the original song and
the time it was created, taking
scenes such as the close up lip
sync and the shots of the
instruments, which can be noted
to appear in some form in the
original video
The abstract imagery used works
well throughout the video as not
only does it present the hard
rock/punk themes I wanted the
video to convey, but I have also
edited it in a way that aligns the
clips with the beat of the song,
making the transitions seem more
fluent
However, some of the shots could
be considered to be out of place ,
such as the forest scenes during
the second verse of the song or
some of the stock footage in the
last chorus, such as the bee and
the eye blinking in relation to the
project as a whole.

10. Aesthetic Qualities
As a whole, I do believe that my music video is quite creative in terms of aesthetic quality and
style, mainly due to the old, almost found footage look of much of the video, particularly the
filmed footage in the garage. Most of the stock footage used in the video has also be placed in a
way that correlates well with the songs overall rock genre even though the imagery may not be
necessarily associated with that genre, but due to being interpreted as abstract footage or being
used when cutting to the beat, this footage does work well when integrated into the rest of the
video. The look of the video does also resonate closely with the song’s style due to have being
edited in a way closely resembling the original music video. However, the most noticeable fault of
this video can be seen during the second/final chorus of the song, where the stock imagery used
seemed to have been not only edited in a way that disassociates it with the song, but also makes
no sense in terms of the songs pace at that point or in terms of the actual imagery presented,
most notably the bee and the flower. Most of the footage seen at this point seems almost rushed
and a lack of effort when collecting these stock footage clips. In future, I will make sure to either
stick more closely to my original storyboard plan or plan certain parts in advance such as
collecting more stock footage in my spare time or allocating a portion of my planning time for this
task, rather than getting to a certain part and having to simply scan for and compile clips that,
when placed together, make no sense.

11. Audience Appeal
The use of the certain areas I have
not only filmed at but are also
contained within certain stock
footage clips I have used may help
to appeal to the working class
audience selected as it is more
likely they will be more familiar
with those types of
areas/activities in their day to day
lives

who will most likely remember
that type of footage from some

makes to the original video, which
may interest either the older
demgraphic or part of the
audience who have watched the
original video and are able to
make the comparison.
The video will also appeal more to
my chosen gender demographic
as it includes clips displaying
activities and hobbies more
associated with that demographic,
such as racing cars, biking etc.

I liked the VHS style effects during your sections, the mix of different
sports during the song worked well as it helps the viewers understand
what the song is about. I really liked the record player at the beginning
and end of the song as it helps the video feel like it has gone full circle
and gives a sense of completion.
Some parts, however, felt random and out of place like the bee leaving
the flower and the close up of the eye which i felt was distracting for
me. Some of the effects you used like the quick ripple effect at around
36 seconds could not be seen very well due the brightness being far
too high which almost hidden the effect itself from the audience.

The song was good, I really enjoyed it. The lip-syncing was okay,
though I had a bit of a problem with both the drum and guitar sections
not matching up to the notes that were played during the song.
The other parts of the video were nice to look at, but didn't make too
much sense in the context of the video.

Overall, I agree with the majority of my peer feedback due to also having
reviewed my final product before uploading. I mainly seem to agree more with
Feedback 1 most as I also believe that the footage placed during the final chorus
of the song does seem more misplaced and seeems to clash with previous
footage, which displayed more footage that can be more easily related to the
tone and genre of the song. I also agree that, when I decided to add the
saturation effect to the majority of ym clips,that this in turn would have made
some areas of the footage near invisible to the audience, esspecially with many
of the clips relateed to water. However there were some areas of feedback
that, in hindsight or taking into account the song or my video plan, make no
sense, such as the negetive of an incoherant narrative from Feedback 3, as the
slect songs lyrics seem to contain no narrative, and so would have maybe
seemed out of place if I had tried to construct my own narritive just for the video
itself. Furthurmore, my plan to make the video a stock footage music video must
also be taken into account, as then it makes no sense to give me the critique of
an overuse of unoriginal footage or comment on how the guitar and drums are
not synced to the song, as the clips used are not my own footage, I had planned
to use stock footage for this and if I hadn't chosen to use stock footage, I
wouldn't have had anyone available to record that clip with me.

18. Action Plan for future development
I believe that there are multiple parts of this project I could look into in
terms of further development. Mainly, I vastly enjoyed the filming
process and getting to grips more with the style of camera used,
something I hope to continue into future projects so to improve
photos and videos hopefully to a more professional extent. I also
believe for future projects, I should remember to update plans if they
so happen to change like mine did, mainly in terms of the ending of my
video as it changed drastically from my original video ending idea. I
also believe that I should plan a lot more specifically and manage my
time more effectively when creating a product idea such as a video, as
otherwise a lot of the footage may appear out of place or rushed, very
much like in this project. Additionally, I would also like to learn more
about various editing techniques and features in order to make future
products more entertaining and eye-catching.
