Andrew Downes plans to create a magazine about videogames. He will include more pictures than a similar magazine called Edge to engage readers. Creating reviews and interviews will be challenging. Researching how to write reviews and who to interview is needed. Collecting images will be the easiest part. A schedule outlines the project over 5 weeks, including taking pictures, finalizing reviews/interviews, and evaluating the project. Bibliography sources include Edge, Playstation, and Classic Rock magazines as well as games like Skyrim.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. Initial Reaction
• I am planning on creating magazine a lot like Edge as it will
have some of the writing but it will be better as I will have
added more pictures to the magazine. This will be good for
me as I already know quite a bit about videogames so
making a magazine for it the hardest bit would be who to
interview or what games to review and how the audience
would react. My opinion is that I will need to do a lot of
research into how to compose a review before I can even
scratch some of the ideas I have for the project also if I plan
doing an interview who should it be with how would they
react the easiest bit will be collecting the images/making
the images to put all over the magazine to make it either a
50/50 split or more pictures and less writing.
9. Mood Board Analysis (Cover)
Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• All of the covers except for one are all linked to videogames, most of the covers include
light colours such as white, peachy skin colour, red, gold and blue. However there are a
lot of dark colours which are used often in the covers as well such as black, grey, blue,
green and brown. Most of the image styles which are in my mood board which is that
most of the characters are either aiming at the reader to engage them and make them
want to read further. The main repeated fonts would be calibri body, the edge font used
on edge magazines and the playstation font used on playstation products. Most of the
tones and moods are meant to feel dangerous and to make the reader feel engaged
with the magazine it is also a way of showing off what some of the game is like by
making them look agitated or something to a similar effect.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I am planning on using the videogame link also a mixture of light and dark colours to
create a contrast to make some things stand out easier than others I will most certainly
be using calibri body for some of the writing and for the headlines I might look into
some other fonts and as for the character on the front presuming I do have a character
on the front I will be trying to make him/her look violent and if not I will just use some
sort of grassy plane or a mountainous area from a game it try and make it feel new.
10. Mood Board analysis (DPS)
• Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images
styles/fonts/tone/mood
• There are only a few repeated colours in the pictures I have are white, black, yellow, red and brown
so there are more light colours repeated and only a few dark colours. The image styles that are
used are there to show case/ show off the game and what it looks like to give the words proof/
back up and in some cases it is to show some of what the amazing reviews are about or in general
could just be to show off the art style. The fonts used would be calibri body and some others to
show the subheadings and sometimes to show off the subheadings it would be the writing of calibri
body just with either bold, underlining or italics to highlight it. In some of the pictures they have
reviews and in others there are some interviews which are quite light hearted in the beginning and
then further in to the reviews it would only take a small turn to the more serious side.
• How will your mood board influence your final product?
• The colour schemes are good but could stand to be a bit darker to create a contrast.
• I will also use pictures to show the drawing style and also to back up the review.
• I am also going to use calibri body for the information and reviews and for the subheadings I will
download some fonts to highlight them.
11. Mood Board Analysis (Advert)
• Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood.
• Note to self There isn’t much repetition as they all want to stand out from each other and be remembered for
different things such as the layout or the colours or even the certain font they use. The repeated colours are black,
white, grey, blue and red, mostly they are made with dark colours to appeal to their target audience they also set
the tone for the game they are advertising for. The image styles don’t have many similarities but they do tend to
use a main enemy, character or whatever they use to symbolise the game or series of games and there is nothing
really else but the ones that stand out to me is the skyrim, borderlands and final fantasy adverts as they just more
intriguing pictures than the others. All the fonts are different as they all come from different games and different
adverts and magazines, the best fonts for being memorable was the skyrim, borderlands and DOOM fonts as they
just even the slightest bit better than calibri and also don’t look ugly. Most of the adverts create a light mood such
as the borderlands one but there are a few that set a more serious tone which does the same kind of job which
would be skyrim, final fantasy and DOOM. And as the tone suggests one is comical and the others are more
serious and have a massive plot.
• How will your mood board influence your final product?
• I will probably use the same kind of colour scheme but for a darker sort of one
• I will probably try to do a twist on a main character that already exists or make it into a landscape and just try to
make it look war torn or have something wrong with it.
• When it comes down to font I might use fallouts font, DOOM’s font or skyrims font or find one more suitable on
dafont.
• As for the mood I am going to try to go for a more serious tone, than the other projets.
