6. Etiology:
• Three group of virus
• Group I: Orphan virus is generally present on the skin of normal cattle but
does not appear to cause the disease
• Group II: Allerton virus causes a condition of a mild nature and is isolated
from skin nodules, saliva, nasal secretions and semen.
• Group III: Neethling virus causes severe form and is found in blood, mucus,
milk, saliva and semen.
• lumpy skin disease caused by genus Capripoxvirus

7. Transmission
• Semen, milk, nasal discharge, lacrimation
• Arthropods: act as vector
• Particularly mosquitoes
• Flies
• Ticks
• LSD is not a zoonotic disease

• Intracellular, eosinophilic inclusion bodies in biopsy material.
• Virus isolation
• Fluorescent antibody
• Serum neutralization
• Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests

26. Treatment:
• No specific treatment is available, but prevention of secondary
infection with antibiotics or sulfonamides is recommended

27. Vaccination:
• LSD vaccine
• Goat & Sheep vaccine

28. Control:
• Lumpy skin disease spread by movement of infected cattle,
• Possibly by wind-borne vectors
• Control of cattle movement from uninfected to infected areas.
