LO1.1 Techniques and Technology
2. Print Based Media Techniques
Print Based Media Techniques vary greatly when it comes to the design and the
techniques they use. Music companies and the band themselves that produce the music
on the CD’s will want to try and make something that not only they enjoy but what the
public will enjoy and make them buy their CD if they have no previewed their music
before whether that be online, via radio or some other means.
The techniques these print based companies used depend on the specification of the
artist and the music company. They could use a painted style, a digital style, a hand drawn
style or a photographic style. Many of these styles can be combined in many ways and be
very effect and the range of colours, imagery and text can make something very
appealing.
3. Print Based Media Technology
In the Print Based Media Industry, there is a various amount of technology used in
Order to get results. When it comes to actual CD, there are two types you can go for.
Basic or Fancy.
Basic can be used in order to minimise cost and is usually used when a music band is just
starting in order to just get out there. Both types of CD’s can be produced in bulk in
minimise costs but Fancy is a lot more expensive as Fancy CD covers might have
additional packaging and materials added to them. This could be some sort of
fabric, another booklet or even any bonus CD, whereas Basic just comes with the CD and
the case with the album art.
Print Based Media Technology is always involving and with computers now, digipaks have
become a lot more relevant but still a luxury idea as they are hard to produce due to
their technical sides. It is apparent that popular bands have digipaks as they can afford to
produce them with big companies such as MTV and Strange Music Inc. allow to
manufacture them at a great rate.
