LO.1 – Understand Print-Based Media Products Techniques and Technology
LO1.3 Uses
2. Uses
The awareness I have found with the different uses and appropriateness for these techniques and
technologies in the industries is that some music industries want to a separate themselves with the
artists they have, making not only the artists be unique but the music industries be unique. This could
mean they have a certain genre and this flows into the cd cover techniques and technologies. Some
will want to use certain techniques and means to stand out. If a music company feels they are very
modern, such as Universal Music group (even though they have been founded for many
decades, they are always wanting to innovate and evolve) they will probably want to take on board
online artists that approve of digital design. If a music company is more old fashioned, they might not
be so keen on digital design, they won’t rule it out completely but they might feel it’s best if the
artists does something unique with the design, using fabric, puppets, paint, etc to reflect the artist
but it’s mostly down to the artist in hand.
When I think about my brief with Andy Mallen, it seemed apparent he wanted something using a
modern technique but have a very varied style and he was hoping to get that from the rest of the
class, so baring that in mind, it seems I will have to use the digital side of things and the techniques I
know with programs such as Photoshop and using glossy ink in the printers to produce something
that can not only separate me from the crowd but also meets Andy Mallens Brief.
