2. What is a Digipak and
Advertisement?
A digipak is an element that consists of an modern approach to CD
packaging which promotes the artist and the album.
Whereas an advert is complimentary to the digipak that advertises
the product to be sold to a audience.
Both products create a ‘cross promotional package’ which defines to
using a variety of media products to promote the artist & album.
Synergy would usually be seen across all three elements of the music
video, album cover (front & back) and advertisement, to develop visual
links for audience recognition.
3. Ancillary products
Ancillary products are defined to be additional media texts that work
together to act as a promotional material for the artist, including
elements like album artwork and posters.
This is a way of branding the artist and a way of helping the audience
to understand the visual links between the formal elements.
Ancillary products are essential for the artist and the audience, to
help create saturation which increases customer awareness. A music
video and ancillary products work alongside each other through
visual synergy which helps to reinforce audience recognition.
4. What are Codes & Conventions?
Codes & conventions are defined as rules to govern the way a media
text is constructed.
The rules are ALWAYS dependent on the media form and the genre of
the text.
Below are a few expectations that the rules create, how:
- Audiences can identify similar products
- Audiences are familiar with different codes & conventions
- Audiences gain enjoyment
Personally, codes & conventions is important to be used in my project as I
will need to apply this into my answer of questions 1 & 2 as well as in my
exam, “Discuss how your own work compares with that of other ‘real’
media”.
5. What will my Digipak and Advert
include…
Main image of the artist
Font that represents the artist/genre (kept the same throughout)
Large font that displays the artists’ name
3-4 colours maximum
Elements of graphic design that create visual style through font, colour, designs
(throughout the album covers)
Visual link between between music video, digipak and advert
Release date and record label (on advert)
Most importantly the artists’ image should echo visual style and colour scheme that was in
the music video on the front cover.
