Wangari Maathai s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech...
Wangari Maathai expresses her gratitude to the world for her Nobel Peace Prize, and also calls her
audience to action. Her goal is to convince the world that the environment has much more
importance than most people seem to realize. In her speech she begins by expressing her gratitude,
and persuading her audience that she is worth listening to. Second she discusses the importance of
the environment and explains how the Green Belt Movement has helped and changed the world.
She then clarifies the problems still occurring. After establishing the problems, she goes on to make
her call to action. Lastly, she ends by establishing pathos.
Maathai expresses her gratitude in the beginning of the speech. She thanks all the people that made

She does this to ensure the listeners that taking care of the environment does much more than make
the world we live in look better. Taking care of the environment also takes part in ensuring a
successful democracy and many other important things in society. The idea that Maathai is
attempting to get across to everyone is that the Earth is our friend and we should give back what we
take. She helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t
replenish what we have consumed from Earth.
Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the
environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races,
children, young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. In the course of history, there
comes a time when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher
moral ground. A time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now.
(4) Her sentence structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is
short and to the point. It s also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with
fancier words. This shows that what she is asking from people isn t rocket science. She is asking
for something as simple as planting trees or recycling. Her call to action is for everyone to
contribute to helping take care of the environment in some way.

Human Blood As A Blood Substitute
By the end of the 20th century many firms were trying to create a Blood Substitute and had
pumped in huge amount of money for its research. Biopure had spent over $200 Million with the
primary goal of developing a Human Blood Substitute. It s entry into the animal market was by
chance and their continued efforts in the field was an opportunistic pursuit. However, its animal
product called Oxyglobin had received the final FDA approval while Hemopure was about to enter
phase III clinical trials.
The Oxyglobin and Hemopure substitutes developed by Biopure have an advantage over blood
transfusions in many areas including blood type matching, universality in terms of donating, such
as O+ blood recipients. The blood substitutes also had a much longer storage life of 2 years as
opposed to the 6 week storage life of transfused blood. Furthermore, with the rise of diseases such as
AIDS and increasing public concern about the same, blood substitutes also helped mitigate that risk.
Baxter International and Northfield Laboratories products sourced their blood substitutes from
human blood whereas, Biopure sourced it from animal blood, cattle in particular. This put them in a
better position than their competitors. Also Biopure s Hemopure and Oxyglobin did not require
refrigeration unlike its competitor s products.
As technological improvements and industrialization increased, the use of automobiles increased
which also led to auto and industrial accidents. The blood substitutes for

The And Caste Discrimination By Kancha Ilaiah s Why I Am...
All religious communities in India are afflicted by an unfortunate evil tendency of exclusion. A
sad trend of hatred has emerged in the battle against casteism and caste based discrimination.
Kancha Ilaiah s Why I am not a Hindu (the non fictional bestseller of 1996) has been constructed
as an expression of the voice of post Independence Dalitbahujan consciousness, which was an
integral part of their socio political movement. Born in a small South Indian Telangana village in
the 1950s, his is the voice of the harassed subaltern, which exposes rampant cultural contradictions
and practices. He talks about the marginalized and victimized identity, where they were not only
neither included nor respected, but also looked down upon and repelled. The battle against
disturbing dehumanizing social evils is manifested in the emergence of disparate groups having
one thing in common deep hatred for Hindus. He implores the upper stratas to read and understand
what the Other (here, an un Hindu Indian) has to say, for, he believes that those who refuse to
listen to new questions and learn new answers will perish and not prosper. The voice of the
alienated existence of the subalterns on every level of experience makes us question certain trends
of action and thoughts inscribed in our subconscious and evident in our consciousness. Though the
book brims with undisguised and unidirectional attacks and opinions, which the readers might find
appallingly biased, yet his voice deserves to be

Characteristics Of The Spinner Dolphin
The Spinner dolphin is a dolphin that is found in offshore tropical waters around the world. It is
famous for its acrobatic displays in which it spins along its longitudinal axis as it leaps through the
air. That is where the name Spinner comes from. It is a family member of the Delphinidae of
toothed whales. There are 4 subspecies of the Spinner dolphin. But, the Gray s Spinner dolphin is
most common.
Spinner dolphins are nocturnal, which means they hunt during the night. They do that so they can
rest on a full stomach during the day. Also, they hunt during the night so they can get out of the
scuba divers way. They communicate by whistles and clicks. Using echolocation (calls out to the
environment) the spinners can scan the darkness, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their head has a very narrow shape, even at the top of the melon. They also have 3 colors on
their body, the skin on the dorsal area has a grey color down to the sides where it has a sharp
change in color to a lighter grey. The lower part of the body is so white it looks pinkish. They
measure between 1.29 and 2.35 meters in length and its weight range is between 23 and 79
kilograms. The name Spinner comes from their above water actions. They can leap into the air
and make as many seven complete spins before diving back into the ocean. The power of the
spin comes from the huge acceleration under the water and the torque of the tail just as the
dolphin breaks the surface. Female spinner dolphins reach sexual maturity about 4 7 years,
males about 7 10 years. Calves are nursed for 1 2 years. They approximately weigh around 130 to
170 lbs. Spinner dolphin inhabits most tropical waters of the world, and can also occur in sub
tropical and warm temperate waters. They are very energetic in the ocean and out of the ocean.

potential to disturb the dolphins in the wild by causing disruption of their behavioral patterns of

Goblin Market Essay
Even though Christina Rossetti claims that her 1862 poem, Goblin Market is supposed to appeal
to children, through feminism and sexuality it is more PG 13. In the poem Goblin Market , one
thing Christina Rossetti focuses on is feminism. The story starts off as introducing the two girls,
Laura and Lizzie that are also sisters. The two girls decide to go on a walk. They run across a little
fruit stand where these goblins are selling fruit. In the poem Rossetti describes the goblins as very
gruesome and ugly. Also in the poem, the two girls appearance is never mentioned which can make
the reader think why they were approached by the goblin men. At the end of the poem, although it
mentions that they both have husbands, it never says anything else about the two husbands in the
rest of the poem. Christina Rossettiuses Goblin Marketto comment on feminism by showing how

Typically when a woman is married, the woman will have her husband to rely on for almost
anything. In this case in Goblin Market Laura had to be reliant on Lizzie to help her after she

considered as a symbol of purity and innocence. A flood is an overwhelming deluge of water that
is both destructive and indiscriminate. By describing Lizzie as a lily in a flood , Rossetti
suggests that she is able to retain her purity and innocence even under pressure and the force of
destruction ( Goblin Market Imagery, symbolism and themes 1). This text from the website is
accurate because during the poem Laura is the one basically blamed for eating the fruit that the
goblins gave her while Lizzie was able to hold off. Although Laura needed Lizzie to help her get
out of the bad situation she was in, Lizzie stood her ground when the goblin men tried to also

The Worst Charity Research Paper
With so many foundations in the United states, how do you choose who to donate to, and why?
Well the best way to choose is to do a little research on the foundation, find out what they are
about, were the money is going and exactly how it is all spent. Chances are most non profit
foundations are a good choice as there is no big paycheck from the work they are doing. Some of
the large foundations, like the wounded warrior project have been taking a lot of heat recently
about the director taking money for his own pocket and not putting it back into helping the
wounded soldiers. By finding out as much as you can about the charity, you can avoid fraudsters
who try to take advantage of your generosity. ( Consumer Information. ) Sadly there are... Show

The heavy usage of gold around the frame is used to make Alexander the Great seem even more
noble than he already is. The usage of gold on the frame like device also gives this painting a
more sophisticated look. Equally important, like I touched on earlier, the position of the human

Kant s Categorical Imperative Of The Modern Era
Emmanuel Kant was an influential philosopher and strong proponent of the modern era. Besides
his large contribution to epistemology and metaphysics, his work in ethics was just as substantial.
Kant s ethics came to propose an objective morality, where moral judgments is not only true
according to a person s subjective view. He believed the moral worth of an action is not determined
by its consequence but the motive behind it. Through Kant s ethics, he demonstrates this duty
through his unconditional moral principle, the categorical imperative. The categorical imperative
expresses that moralityis not about the outcome (good or bad), but the right action regardless of
the outcome. It is the responsibility to do one s duty for its own sake and not in pursuit of one s
own desire.
One formulation of Kant s categorical imperative instructs us to act only in such a way that I
can also will that my maxim should become a universal law. Before going into the formulation, a
maxim for Kant is just not a rule for how to act but a middle stage between experience and the
categorical imperative. Kant describes this as a subjective rule , that is, a rule that is deliberated
at the subjective level. Consider a case of human interaction, in which one has to decide his
behavior in the form, X does such an action to Y . We may ask the moral question should X do
such an action to Y? According to Kant, X response cannot derive from desire or pleasure but
rather give a deliberate and

Analysis Of Farenheit 451 By Ray Bradbury
The book Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is about a fireman named Montag. Montag changed
his whole life around because of books. This book is taking place in a dystopian society where
nobody reads books everyone is watching TV which is there family . Firemen burn down
houses, in school you don t really learn if you do its not valuable learning. If you do have books
and the firemen find out you will die and destroy the book. This book is about the fireman
Montag who starts reading books and sees the society he lives in is wrong. At the beginning of
this book there is quote which is If they give you rules paper write the other way by Jaun Ramon.
This quote explains this whole book. The fireman Montag really does follow the way of the
quote. At the beginning Montag was just a regular citizen in this dystopian society. He watched
TV went to his job and burned houses and went home to his wife. We can tell he was like
everyone because the book opens with this It s a pleasure to burn (Bradbury 1). He was a
regular fireman who liked to burn houses like the rest of them do. One night he was walking
home from working at the firehouse and he saw someone and started to follow this person because
usually nobody is out at this time. He found this person named Clarisse she changed Montag s
whole life. She made him look at the world in a different way and made him think about other

Nclb Act Pros And Cons
In 2001, Former President George W. Bush signed the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. This Law
launched the national standards and testing movement of the United States (2004).
The NCLB was structured to place the responsibility of our children on the shoulders of each state
individually. In addition, it is also beneficial to parents and students who are living in impoverished
communities with little to no resources available resulting in low performing test scores. The
NCLB also states that local educational agencies now have federal education funding in their
disposal.
The following are excerpts from The Department of Education (2004).
The four pillars on which the initiative is based are as follows:

In schools that do not meet state standards for at least two consecutive years, parents may transfer
their children to a better performing public school, including a public charter school, within their
district. The district must provide transportation, using Title I funds if necessary. Students from low
income families in schools that fail to meet state standards for at least three years are eligible to
receive supplemental educational services, including tutoring, after school services, and summer
school. Also, students who attend a persistently dangerous school or are the victim of a violent
crime while in their school have the option to attend a safe school within their district.
Positive and negative insights on the NCLB:
Positives
Statewide standardized exams has vastly improved enrollment for mathematics and science.
Legislation has firmly had an effect on public schools applying pressure to provide more
educational resources to the students.
The achievement gap between whites and the minorities has closed.
Low income housing and students with disabilities now has accessibility.
Funding for school technology used is now available in classrooms as part of NCLB, is

The Defense Of The Insanity Defense
The insanity defense has been used in several cases in criminal law. This defense basically states
that the accused cannot be held responsible for what he/she did because they had no control over
their actions. Many times the defense attorney will plea for a deal that the defendant be sent to a
mental rehabilitation center for proper treatment. When using this defense the defense attorney will
argue that there may be a chemical imbalance in his brain therefore he had no idea what he was
doing at the time.
In my opinion the insanity defense should not exist because many of the people accused just use to
get out of their justified sentence. Daniel M Naghten was a woodworker who believed he was the

And this is because so many people were using this defense to get out of being in trouble and later
being sentenced. In many cases involving the insanity defense the defense attorney will raise the
point that there is a chemical imbalance in his head, basically stating that he had no control over
himself at the time that he did the act of violence.
Monte Durham was a 23 year old who had been in and out of prison and mental institutions since
he was 17. He was convicted for housebreaking in 1953, and his attorney appealed. Although the
district court judge had ruled that Durham s attorneys had failed to prove he didn t know the
difference between right and wrong, the federal appellate judge chose to use the case to reform the
McNaughton rule. Citing leading psychiatrists and jurists of the day, the appellate judge stated that
the McNaughton rule was based on an entirely obsolete and misleading conception of the nature of
insanity. He overturned Durham s conviction and established a new rule. The Durham rule states
that an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease
or mental defect. The Durham rule was eventually rejected by the federal courts, because it cast
too broad a net. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers, and drug addicts had successfully used the
defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes. (Legal information institute, Cornell university law
school). This is an example of how the insanity

According to the National Center for Family Marriage Research, the average age at which a
man becomes a dad is 27.1, but that goes up to 30.8 for men with a college education (Staniforth,

Understanding Military Culture
There are major changes that have transformed the military from the old force which was seen to
focus only on winning battles without caring much about their forces to the highly skilled force it
is today that is all rounded. In order to comprehend the changes in the military there is need for
understanding the militaryculture. Like any other culture, military culture has evolved from
unorganized forms of administration and organization to the current modern force it is today. There
are different viewpoints on military culture and understanding it requires delving in their systems.
Explanation of military culture has two dimensions; one, the actual service where the force is
required to interact with others while serving and two, the personal life of the veteran and the life
off the military environment.
The picture that explains best about the need to understand military culture is the citizen solder that
serves for a few years and is not likely to return t active duty but associates with the military though
totally disengaged. The lives of military in active service and the veteran are different but swayed
by the same forces, the military culture. Therefore, there is need to understand the military structure
and basic military culture tenets and its elements such as missions, core values and ideals. This
paper seeks to illustrate the importance of military culture training, its foundations and its effects
both locally and internationally.

The Need to Belong Essay
It is an inherent part of human nature to want to belong
Belonging as defined by the Oxford dictionary is a multifaceted concept, yet being every
individual s inherent desire to belong. Belonging is a universal concept. Those who don t find a
sense of belonging are certain to find themselves under the destructive cycle of isolation and self
alienation. Peter Skrzynecki s Immigrant Chronicles serves to highlight the basic fundamental
desire to belong and the importance it holds on each individual. This notion is further explored
with Skrzynecki s poems St Patrick s College , Feliks Skrzynecki and Gabrielle Muccino s 21st

Feliks Skrzynecki is the persona s father and is expressed as a barrier to his belonging as he couldn
t connect to their Polish culture. There is use of possessive pronouns throughout the poem to
demonstrate the inheritance of belonging from father and _____, My father . Although this shifts
overtime from my to his , the use of the pronoun his reveals dislocation and disconnectedness
between the persona and his father. The protagonist felt a disconnection with his father, but desired
to belong, but couldn t find that connection and a strong sense of belonging. Inheritance of human
nature to belong is explicitly explored within 10 Mary Street. This poem reveals how pure
connection to birth place, locality amongst family extensively initiates belonging and the sense of
adhesiveness and connectedness. The persona describes his home and his parents sense of
belonging through their beloved garden . There s a symbol of importance of belonging through
their garden. Grew rows of Carneilla and rows of sweet corn , emphasizing ownership and a
pleasant sense of imagery. Like a bird, eating pumpkins I promised myself I d lay off . The
symbolism of a bird resembles a sense of freedom within their placing. Belonging being an inherent
part of human nature is explored within Gabrielle Muccino s 21st Century film pursuit of
happyness . This film reveals great meaning and one s desire to belong. The protagonist, Chris

while for live action features, Disney shied away from using well known and expensive talent.
Audiences were drawn because of the reputation Disney had established for providing quality,

Maze Runner Dystopian Society Quotes
The trend in dystopian societies is very intriguing and so vivid. Dystopian societies dictate many
characteristics as leaders and followers usually one coming out from the shade to lead their small
groups to rebel against order. Through, James Dashner literature the maze runner series he greatly
displays challenges of the protagonist in a fallen society. He also takes his text to the next level by
being able to display hopelessness in a series of challenges, with struggles with fear in courage as
the protagonist in the book go through their trenches, long and dangerous journey. Basically the
control the dystopian society creates. Since their beginning they all went through the same thing.

They take away everyone s freedom and basically run their lives on a Dailey basis. Through all 3
books their quote on quote just society it rebelled and contradicted against by the protagonist or
simply the characters that are tired of it in the books, for example in book one the kids or teens
are talking to one another and one exclaims think about it our memories are wiped, we live
inside a place that seems to have no way out. Surrounded by blood thirsty monster guards doesn t
that sound like a prison to you? James Dashner (64) Well does it? Theses teens basically had
their whole life taken from them, then the wicked just throws them in a maze filled with
monsters like a lab rats. The people/protagonist in the book had what everyone is obligated to in
their life their freedom and rights stripped away as if this corrupt society couldn t get worse,
overall the maze runner displays the perfect dystopian society. In an online source an author by the
name of Thomas Robinson spoke on the society in the maze runner and he exclaimed a dystopia
society can be described as one where conditions are incredibly bad and unpleasant for the
inhabitants whether due to an oppressive government degrading environmental conditions etc.
Knight, Melissa. The Maze Runner. Thomas goes on to speak on how life is already unpleasant
while where they live is most likely destroyed ruins very dirty and just filled with junk. Having
to live under the lies of their leaders. To wrap up, Dystopian societies lead to many hardships
that is faced which leads to the next topic on a dystopian society. One of the most intriguing
characteristics of James Dashner s dystopian society is how he brings all of his many different
characters to life in their very own unique way. From Thomas to newt to alby to gally they all act
and develop differently throughout the book series. In book one Gally makes himself known to
Thomas as the big boss, and basically disrespects him.

Essay On The Louisiana Purchase
On April 30, 1803, France sold 2,144,510 square kilometers of land to the United States of
America known as the Louisiana Purchase. The United States of America paid 15 million dollars
(about 283 million dollars today) in this treaty. The Louisiana Purchase was one of the most
crucial land tradings in the history. It provided territory for westward expansion and extended the
land area; however, it was opposed by many people at that time. At the same time, 15 million dollars
total was much more than the national financial capacity of the period. In any case, the Louisiana
Purchasewas so significant to the US because it gave them a better way of trading to foreign
countries and allowed the United Statesto become a much more extensive territory.
The Louisiana Purchase territory in that time was much bigger than the Louisiana Territory today.
In the Louisiana Purchase, Louisiana s territory started from the Mississippi River to the beginning
of the Rocky Mountains. The Louisiana Purchase territory included Arkansas, Iowa, Missouri,
Kansas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska, parts of Minnesota and Louisiana west of Mississippi River,
including New Orleans, big parts of North and northeastern New Mexico, South Dakota, northern
Texas, some parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado as well as portions of Canadian provinces
Alberta and Saskatchewan.
At that time the Mississippi River had become an important transport route for agricultural products

The Importance of Teacher Tenure in Public Schools Essay...
Most would ask, What exactly is teacher tenure? . Well, in short teacher tenure is a permanent job
contract for school teachers. Teachers can earn tenure by proving their teaching skills over a
specific number of years while working at the same school. In most cases the number of years a
teacher must work at the same schoolis anywhere from two to seven years. After receiving tenurea
teacher cannot lose his or her job without just cause, for example obvious incompetence or severe
misconduct. Tenure offers job security to teachers that have successfully completed their
probational period of teaching. (Heard) So the questions is, should teacher tenure be abolished in
public schools? One s answer should be no. Teacher tenure is... Show more content on

Think of it this way, experience is important. Tenure is one way to reward experience. Some
argue that tenure allows bad teachers to stay in the classroom. Teachers that are just there to put
in their time and don t really care about the students themselves. They feel that granting teachers
tenure encourages them to become complacent about their jobs. Tenures are something that can
be beneficial to students, as well. By providing job security, teachers can concentrate on
teaching, instead of worrying about overly obsessed parents coming after them. Take for
instance, a parent getting a coach fired because they did not give their son or daughter enough
play time on the court. There is the classic scenario of parents that will look for a teacher s flaws
in teaching before they look for flaws in their child as a student. (Sharifi) The bottom line is that
tenure is a complex issue, most do not understand what it is or how it works. Tenure policies vary
from state to state, so its not surprising that most are not really famililar with it. Also it only
effects a small number of the population. Many are confused as to just what rights tenured teachers
have, or whether they can even be fired. First of all most should know that teacher tenure has a
system of due process, checks, and balances so that teachers can be fired just not to easily. Before
argueing that teacher tenure should be abolished, one should listen to a few points.

Macbeth Interview
Interviewer: Hello Macbeth. Thank you for attending this interview. Would you mind briefing me
your whole story?
Macbeth: Yes, of course but it s rather intricate.
Interviewer: Why do you think your story is intricate?
Macbeth: My story is rather unpredictable one and it is all due to my hasty decisions. I basically
killed the King of Scotland to become the King and I was defeated in a battle and lost my power as
king! I misused my power as a king and I suffered.
Interviewer: That was quite a story. There s a saying, with great power, comes great responsibility.
But you becoming King, don t you think you abused your power? Since the start?

to becoming a lowly person who has to kill someone to attain power. This just showed that power
corrupts ambition. My nature degraded and this I resorted to killing and/or murdering others
families who were in my way of becoming the king. My degrading nature also affected my
ambition, before I viewed attaining the power of becoming the King as an honor but due to my

up having a negative impact on all the other characters in the story. From the guards to the little
children, no one was spared. Many lost their families, children lost their fathers and vice versa. I
became so caught up with the power of becoming the King that I even lost my wife. Even she had
become corrupt with power but guilt caught up to her earlier than me and she killed herself. It was

The Origin of Species
In 1859, a time when literal interpretation of the Bible was common practice, a book that could
potentially debase society s understanding of what was fact was published and it summarized a
theory that humans have slowly evolved from a primitive form, commonly called the Theory of
Evolution.(Kennedy Pg.572) The book titled On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural
Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life was written by an English
naturalist and geologist, Charles Darwin, and it overcame the scientific rejection that earlier similar
theories had faced. Leading up to his publication during the Protestant Reformation Darwin went

Another event that led to Darwin s controversial writing were the discoveries he made from his
documentation on his long voyage on the HMS Beagle where he did all of his research and
discoveries written about in his book. One of his first discoveries that linked evolution to living
creatures left him with more of an inquiry than an answer or discovery. He noted the
geographical distribution of the modern species of a fossil he found while ashore resembling a
huge armadillo in hopes of finding their centre of creation. ( ) He extensively edited his research
and added his findings until the original book was completed and finally published on Thursday,
November 24th, 1859 and all copies being sold were immediately bought up by booksellers.
During Darwin s lifetime he published 6 different editions of the book and the one that really
shook society what the final writing published February 19th, 1872, the 6th edition titled the
Origin of Species (this is when the title was shortened from its original length) in which was the
only time he used the word evolution ; though, however, every edition concluded with the word

7 titled Miscellaneous objections that addressed any objections that were sure to come from
opposition of his Theory of Evolution.

The desire to stay in a relationship no matter what happens, in marriage and developing

Communication. Communication scholar Mark Knapp and social psychologist and

explanation to communication characteristic traits that many couples have developed

The Importance Of Illegal Immigration
Illegal immigration has been a problem that has plagued the United States for many years. Yet this
problem is not a new uprising issue in view of the fact that thousands of immigrants have crossed
over seas and boarders since this country was founded. Although Immigrants have played a great
deal into the influence of culture in our country, and The underlying problem boils down to
birthright citizenship the guarantee of citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants who were
born on US soil. Children born on U.S. soil to Illegal Immigrants should not become U.S. citizens.
For the language within the clause of the 14th amendment has become tremendously distorted of its
original intent allowing illegal immigrants to take advantage of American citizen rights. In this
debate, I will be discussing the true intent behind the 14th amendment and clarifying the meaning
behind the words, that rule the law of the land. The original intent of the clause then changes what
is indicative of what this dispute is truly about. The notion of the original intent of the constitution
should be what governs who applies to the rights of an American citizen. While noteing the
presence of a U.S. born child should not be used as an excuse not to enforce the law. There needs
to be a revision in the notion that you can self immigrate or claim jurisdiction because you happen
to walk into the United States. Being born on a piece of land shouldn t magically make you an
American. It s a culture, the

accountability needs to be found between the member schools, and the actual organization. Once a

The Requirements Of Australian Standards
Accounting for Business Combinations and its relevant issues under the requirements of Australian
standards have raised a considerable number of concerns, and therefore remained controversial for
both accountants and scholars who have been struggling to deal with the practical and theoretical
development of the Accounting industry. Regardless of such difficulties, due to the undeniable
meaning of Accounting practices and the enormity of transactions involved on a daily basis, it is of
great importance to research, study and understand the application of Business combination
Accounting according to Australian requirements.
As a matter of fact, within the limitation of a short paper, this study aims to provide a critical
review on the Accounting issues in Business combination under the requirement of Australian

method is chosen in a business combination and lastly, a review on the nature and treatment of
goodwill or bargain purchase from these particular transactions will be mentioned.

Throughout the few most recent months we spent some time reading different plays. After reading

Although each play has a different title, theses plays have much in common with each other.
Oedipus Rex, by Sophocles, Hamletby William Shakespeare, and Long Day s Journey Into Night
were three of the plays we read in class. Although it was apparent that these plays were different,
but however, reflecting back to these plays it makes sense why we read them together. Oedipus
Rex, Hamlet, and Long Day s Journey Into Night all have family issues, each play ends in a
tragedy, and each of these plays without a doubt has a twisted plot. Reading each play it... Show

While reading Oedipus Rex my first initial reaction was wow this play is strange, but however,
when I started reading the other plays like Hamlet and Long Day s Journey into Night it started
becoming more normal that most of the plot seemed to be twisted. In Oedipus Rex it was unusual
that someone would get put up for adoption then eventually kill their real dad, and then get married
to their real mom and have kids with them. This twisted plot made readers more interested in what
was going to happen next. Moreover, in Hamlet during the plot was becoming twisted when Hamlet
started seeing his father as a ghost, and when his mother marries Claudius so quickly, then when
Hamlet made out with his own mother. Although the twisted plot is sometimes hard to follow it
makes the reader inquisitive what is going on in the play. In Long Day s Journey Into Night, the
strange family addiction to drugs and alcohol consumption makes the reader on edge on what is
going to happen next to the family. Reading these stories make sense as a group because they all
have that twisted plot by authors incorporating these twisted plots it makes the read more
interesting rather than boring. Learning about twisted plots can help students become more unique
writers so they take risks outside of writing a normal cliche

Influential Ideas For Protestant Theology
John Calvin was the son of bourgeois parents in Picardy, France (Brophy, 431). First, he studied
at the University of Paris to obtain a Master of the Arts degree, and then he went on to study law
at OrlГ©ans, where he received a doctorate of law (Brophy, 431). When he converted to
Protestantism he was forced to flee Paris and eventually ended up in Geneva, Switzerland, where
he wrote his Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances, along with many other significant writings (Brophy,
432). This document is a primary source because John Calvinwrote it in 1541 in Geneva (Brophy,
432). Calvin wrote this draft in order to educate people about the reforms he desired to see in the
church throughout England (Brophy, 432). His writings were one of the most influential ideas for
Protestant theology (Cole, 318). When Calvin converted to Protestantism, he wanted to create
reforms within the church so that there was proper structure for both the church and government
(Cole, 319). The best way for him to get the reforms he wanted was to write them down, which he
did in the Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances. Calvin s Draft of Ecclesiastical Ordinances is about
the structure of the church and government he wished to see (Brophy, 434). Unlike our government
today, Calvin did not see a need for separation of church and state. Calvin s ideal government was
one that was tied directly to the church, and the church officials would also be the government
officials. The draft includes the duties,

the power that the IRS has is cancelling your passport if you have a debt over $50,000 as well as
seizing the bank accounts of small businesses without any warning to them.
The majority of the federal tax money of the United States is spent into three groups. The three
groups are mandatory spending, discretionary spending and Interest on debt. Mandatory spending

Such as climbing structures, scratching post or a place to run (2/26/17). In an attempt to meet the

I also provided the dogs with the opportunity to get out of their small enclosure and to feel the
grass underneath their paws. While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do
not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they
depend a lot on the donations from the public. Which means that they can only hire the exact
amount of people that will help perform the necessary duties but they lack the extra help that can
help with taking the dogs out or grooming the cats. For this reason, they depend greatly on the
community to go in and volunteer.
Animal shelters and the community The Bakersfield SPCA is one of the smallest shelters within
Bakersfield. They depend greatly on the community to help sponsor animals. This means that the
community members, depending on the type of animal, will provide a starting kit which include
food, bedding, and a scratching post to the adopters. The animals who were sponsor by the
community are cats that are older or have been at the shelter longer than the rest. This is a form of
trying to save as many animals as possible by defining the animal as a shelter mascot (3/28/2017).

I will also discuss the opposing view stating that addiction is a choice and that addicts are not

Malala Yousafzai s Impact On Women s Education
I Am Malala
What would you do if you were told you could no longer attend school? Let me tell you what
Malala Yousafzai did when the Taliban forbade girls in her village from completing their
education. She is recognized as a worldwide champion of women s educational rights. She fought
for her and her classmates rights to go to school at great personal peril, and despite life threatening

Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12, 1997. When she was born she was very poor. She has two

The Immigration Of The United States Essay
Immigration in the United States has had a contentious history since this country s first settlers,
with overtly exclusive and xenophobic policies being de rigueur throughout colonialism until the
mid 20th century, and arguably today. Anti immigrant sentiment has reigned with each historical
immigration wave, intensifying as the demographics shifted from Northern and Western Europeans
during Colonialism to more unassimilable races like Southern and Eastern European, Asian,
African and Middle Eastern ( History of Oppression: Lesson 4 Cultural Imperialism , 2016).
Policy is inescapably shaped by public sentiment, and the American white majority believed in the
objective supremacy of the Nordic race to exercise political, economic and social control over
inferior races (Grant, 1916). This is in stark conflict with the Constitutional values that America is
built on, and to whom many have gestured to in the same breath as their anti immigrant vitriol. It is
in this contrast that one must look at the social constructions of immigrants, race and who is worthy
of citizenship, and how our country has historically sought to deny and restrict those considered a
threat to the American way of life (Jimenez, Pasztor, Chambers, Fujii, 2015, p. **). There have
been several mass immigrationwaves since this country s founding; British were the primary settlers
in the 17th and 18th centuries, along with hundreds of thousands of slaves from Africa; the mid

Essay On Deckard In David Desser s Blade Runner
Hard boiled detective fiction and film noir are extremely prevalent in the 1982 film Blade
Runner. In his article Blade Runner. Science Fiction and Transcendence, David Desser gives
multiple examples of elements of the hard boiled universe in Blade Runner: Deckard is an ex
cop, an ex blade runner, doubtless in part because of the corruption of the system as seen in
Captain Bryant, who calls replicants skin jobs (the equivalent of calling black people niggers),
and in Gaff, who dresses like a dandy. Most importantly, however, Deckard is alienated from his
fellow man, divorced that is, not only from his wife (who he tells us, thought of him as sushi cold
fish ), but from all of humanity. It is ironic and significant that when Deckard does finally fall in
love, does finally make a genuine emotional commitment, it is with a replicant a woman who is not
a human. In order to completely understand what makes this an element of the hard boiled universe,
one must understand what hard boiled even means. In the case of... Show more content on

feel about yourself and who you are. Without the dreary setting of Los Angeles, we wouldn t be able

speaker describes the mouse as a sleek, tiny, timorous, cowering beast that is running away from
humans. He tells the mouse that he does not need to run away from him. He says to the mouse,
why dash away, so quick, so rash, in a frenzied flash when I would be loath to run after you . The
speaker means no harm but the mouse s first instinct is to run when he sees humans because he
expects to get chased by humans. The speaker understands the reasons for the mouse sometimes
stealing food. The narrator says I have no doubt you sometimes shiver; What of it, friend? You
too must live! He knows that the mouse must find a way to get food, so it can survive. The little
mouse had a home built to keep warm but the farmer with the plow unintentionally destroyed its
home. When apologizing to the mouse the speaker says Your tiny house lies in a ruin, its fragile
walls and rent and strewn! Now nothing s left to build you a new one of mosses green. The mouse
plans to have a home for winter gets destroyed. The farmer destroying the mouse s home shows
that dreams and plans can be destroyed by something or someone.

Adr In Family Law Case Analysis
Critically analyse whether ADR methods such as mediation offer a better forum for resolving
family law disputes than the courts, thus providing greater access to justice:
Alternative Dispute Resolution has become one of the most central and significant changes to the
family law system since the 1980 s with the emergence of mediation as an alternative form of
achieving justice. The main form of ADR used in family law is family mediation, and is now
known in Australia as family dispute resolution (FDR). The concept was first introduced as a means
to reduce conflict, improve communication and co parental cooperation, produce better agreements
in less time and expense and lead to more compliance with agreements (Kelly 1996 373). Since the

Only 1.5% of ATSI families use the FDR services. The AIFS evaluation of 2006 family law
reforms has shown that many practitioners lack the confidence when engaging with CALD and
Indigenous families. There are specific barriers to ATSI and CALD families such as s in the
poor delivery of culturally specific or appropriate services by providers and the lack of trust in
mediation services. Furthermore CALD face many communication barriers and culturally
differences. There is clearly greater need for family dispute practitioners to address issues of
cultural competency. The NADRAC 2009 has suggested that culturally appropriate practices are
essential to better engage with the local CALD and ATSI populations. Culturally reflexive practices
may help enhance the responsiveness to cultural contexts of families in dispute resolution.
Furthermore employing FDR practitioners, who speak the languages of the CALD communities in
the local area, may also help to increase the cultural competency of staff and increase the barriers
faced by CALD

Firstly is the cost. A significant number of us realize that the cost of the automobile is
exceptionally costly, regardless of the possibility that it will be a small automobile. So the
individuals who are of normal families won t be able to buy the automobile. This will make the
Mercedes Benz Company lost a ton of profit. The following is the service charge of Mercedes
Benz is amazingly high; one time of overhauling it might cost one thousand or more. Other than
that, the frill and the extra parts of Mercedes Benz auto are likewise extremely costly. All aspects
of the automobile likewise cost more than a thousand. Moreover, the Mercedes automobile
utilization of petrol is high and these days the cost of petrol is escalating as well. Not just that,

The Environmental Issue Of The Wildfires
What is the single most environmental issue that is plaguing the eastern half of the world? The
raging fires in Indonesia and Asia. These fires are releasing more CO2 and other toxic chemicals
in a few months than most countries do all year. The fires are also producing a thick smoky haze
that is clouding the entire area. What is the exact cause of this problem? Scientists are quick to
point out several causes, but one that is standing out is the defiant act of setting ablaze fields for
the use of farmland.
The Indonesian government has taken a stand against the fire, but has done nothing to actually
stop the farmers from destroying the land. The actual problem is that the farmers are burning
their land to make way for their crops. The farmers not only set the fires in the first place, but
also chop down trees to make land open for crops. This deforestation adds to the problem
because they just let the trees lay and the wood tries and is perfect kindling for the fires. This
logging for the way of plantations is one cause that is leading the way. The government has no real
reason to stop the farmers because they are bringing in the money for the country. This use of fire is
a ?cheap and often illegal way of clearing land.? (http://forests.lic.wisc.edu/ric/wrr37/fires.htm) This
shows the blahtent disregard for nature and the entire community. If the farmers only had the means
to clear their land in a way that didn?t cause such a destructive effect on the earth there wouldn?t

The Criticism And Characteristics Of Romanticism In The...
INTRODUCTION
Romanticism is a movement which influences many works as literature, painting, music,
architecture, and it developed in Germany and Britain in the early decades of the nineteenth
century and progressed until mid century. The period started in 1790 and finished 1830. It can be
said that this period had started with the publication of Lyrical Ballads by Wordsworth and
Coleridge and ended with the death of famous novelist Sir Walter Scott. It is clear that this period
has a variety of styles, themes and also has great influence on poetry. It is not only related to poetry,
but also related to history, painting, politics, music, architecture, philosophy and literature... so on.
When Romanticism started there were different views. One view argues that Romanticism started
with French Revolution in 1789. They thought that French Revolution promised freedom, equality,
and fraternity. These are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Ancient Egyptian Greek and Roman Stele Essay
Ancient Egyptian Greek and Roman Stele Just as we use tombstones to mark graves and
commemorate our dead, so too did ancient civilizations. One way to do so in the ancient world
was through the use of steles. A stele is a stone slab, usually decorated in relief and inscribed, that
honored the death of a person. Three of the ancient culturesthat had implemented the use of the
stele were the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. In comparing an example from each civilization, it
is possible to see the evolution of the stele from one period to another and the different influences
each civilization had on a single element.
The Egyptians had many ways to honor their dead, including the stele. Wealthy Egyptians,

The Greek grave markers of the 3rd 1st century BCE are almost wholly restricted to the East Greek
World. The most common type is tall, with architectural elements, and a big figure of the deceased
with small attendants. Another type, a short and broad rectangle, depicts the deceased at a feast the
Death Feast or Totenmahl reliefs. (Rothermel 354)
The Western Asia Minor Funerary Stele is one Greek stele that falls under these distinctions.
(University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology) It is from Asia Minor
(part of the East Greek World) during the 1st century BCE. It shows the deceased, a man, lying
on a dining couch under an arch. He is leaning on his left elbow and holds up a funerary wreath
with the right hand. It is said that the woman on the left is his wife. She appears to be thinking,
probably of her dead husband. There are also two attendants, one on either side of the arch, and a
table in front of the deceased loaded with food. This stele has all the distinct characteristics
(mentioned previously) of the grave markers from the eastern part of the Greek Empire. The
architectural elements (the arch), an image of the deceased (the man on the couch), the broad
rectangular shape of the stele, and the Death Feast are all present within this stele. (Rothermel 354)
Since this stele was created during the Hellenistic period, it has the

Essay on American Schools Need Essentialism
American Schools Need Essentialism
There are five main philosophies that describe education: Essentialism (the back to basics approach
which strives to teach students the essentials), Progressivism (which stresses individuality),
Perennialism (which is the teaching of philosophies that have been around for hundreds of years),
Existentialism (which give the students the choice of when to study and when not to), and
Behaviorism (which lets teachers use reinforcement to achieve the desired behaviors which need to
be used in the class room). Essentialism was the main philosophy used in earlier classrooms, and
should be adopted back into the classrooms of today.

Another point that needs to be discussed is the fact that students do not have the discipline that they
used too. Young adultsneed an example set for them if they are going to behave properly. Teachers
need to set this example by making students follow the rules, and having strict punishments for the
students whenever they break these set rules. Students need a well rounded schedule to prepare
them for the years to come. It is obvious that they need the basic classes such as math, science,
English, and social sciences. There are electives that are needed, but there are a lot offered that
serve no purpose at all. Some examples of classes that I had were teachers aid, health and physical
education, and chorus. These classes did not prepare me at all for the college experience. As a
result of this I almost failed out of Concord College my first year.
Another good way to keep students focused is to give them standardized tests. These tests
should be taken very seriously. The SAT and ACT tests are a perfect way to test a student s
ability to perform in a classroom. The teachers never know if the student has fallen behind, or is
slow is academics. If a student is incapable of keeping up with the pace of other students, they
should be demoted, or placed in remedial classes for extra help.
As I mentioned before I am an elementary education major. I plan to finish my education and
hopefully find a job to educate

around four to six percent. This percentage is right around where we are hovering today. After
analyzing the aforementioned FRED Civilian Unemployment Rate chart1 the leap in
unemployment rate can be pinpointed to 2008 after the housing bubble popped. The jump was
quite substantial beginning in February of 2008 at 4.9 percent and peaking in October of 2009
at 10 percent. This steep jump was caused by the companies going into debt due to the recession
and having to cut expenses by laying off workers. What does the Troubled Assets Relief Program

The, The Royal Slave, A True History
People of certain social classes sometimes have stereotyped characteristics pinned to them. Rich
people might be seen as snobbish while poor people might be seen as unmotivated to improve
themselves. The characters in Oroonoko, The Royal Slave, A True History, also have
characteristics based on the social classto which they belong. During the eighteenth century, social
class became a topic of interest in Britain. The characters in Oroonoko can be grouped into three
social classes based on the level of power they have. One class is the rulers such as the King of
Coramatien and Deputy Governor Byam. Next are the people who are neither rulers nor slaves
such as Aboan, Mr. Trefry, and Colonel Martin. Finally, there are the slaves. Because of

The narrator says that when the King saw how Imoinda, a young woman with whom he has
fallen in love, reacted to the gift he sent her in Oroonoko s name, it gave him some affliction, but
he salved it (Behn 2143). Here, the narrator explains that the King was very upset when he saw
that Imoinda was in love with Oroonoko, but he ridded himself of these sad feelings by sending
her the royal veil which forced her to become one of his wives. This shows that the King has a
selfish nature because he could not overcome his desire for Imoinda and let her marry
Oroonoko. This selfishness leads him to betray Oroonoko. Both the King and Byam show
disloyalty since they betray Oroonoko which establishes negative character. This disloyalty is
also distinct to those who are of a high social class position because they are deliberately
betraying Oroonoko as opposed to doing it unintentionally. Because negative traits, such as
disloyalty, are given to characters who have governmental power, a link between negative
character and high social class characters can be established. Another link which can be seen
between social class positon and character is through the characters who are neither rulers nor
slaves having positive character traits. These characters are a middle class by the fact that they do
not rule a colony or country, but they also are not slaves. Also, all of these characters exhibit positive

Paragonimus Worm
The common name of the Paragonimus Westermani is called the lung fluke. The Paragonimus
worm tends to look like a coffee bean. It is short and thick, looking like a reddish brown color.
Their oral and ventral suckers are visible, they have scale like spine that are evenly spaced out. The
eggs from the worm are laid from a human s lungs through the motion of the microvilli. They are
then put in the gastrointestinal tract and out the body. If a human was to ever eat something raw of
any sort it then the forming cyst or larva that was in that animal creature migrates into the human s

The next argument is that we simply cannot afford it. The United States put an average of 663.4
billion dollars per year from 2010 to 2015 into our military (Davies, 2015). For a comparison the
Chinese who have the world s second largest military spent around 145 billion in 2015 (Wong,
Buckley 2015). If we can afford to put hundreds of billions of dollars into our military each year
then why can t we afford to educate the future workers and professionals of America? There is no
need for that much spending on our military and it can be moved from the military into education
in order to make higher education more affordable. Critics are focusing only on one of the major
issues, which is the issue of money and they are completely ignoring the ideological issues.
Education is extremely important and is necessary in order for people to support themselves and
their country. Education is a fundamental human right that is necessary in order to promote
individual freedom and exercise other rights (United Nations). Education is a necessity in America
but has time goes on it is getting far more difficult to obtain. Education benefits not just the
individual who is obtaining the education but it is a public good and an investment in our collective
future as a country (Applebaum, 2014). A

Pat Tillman Hero
In America, we often idolize our sports stars. However, we do not always idolize them for the
right reasons. Throughout many of our childhoods and even adult lives, we see athletes as heroes,
but are they just good athletes or do they have characteristics that make them truly heroic? Pat
Tillman was not just an NFL star, but a true hero. He lived a life of bravery, honor and sacrifice that
still influences people to this day. Pat Tillman set an almost unreachable standard of character that
everyone, not just athletes should strive for.

States Army and went through Army Ranger school. Pat served many tours of duty, including
service in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. Pat
Tillman was killed in action on April 22, 2004, but how he died became controversial. At first it
was reported he was killed in battle with the enemy, however it was later revealed that was not
true. His biography states, Tillman s platoon was forced to split up when one of their vehicles
broke down during a routine search of an Afghan village. Half the platoon members were ordered
to tow the vehicle, but were attacked by Taliban insurgents. When Tillman and his half of the
platoon came to the rescue, they were mistaken for enemy soldiers. Tillman was shot three times in
the head while protecting a young soldier (1). It was later learned that the military and the
government had worked to cover up how Tillman was killed. His biography states, After Tillman s
death, the investigation proved that Army commanders and members of the Bush administration
concealed the truth behind the soldier s shooting by destroying items of his clothing, his notebooks
and even hiding parts of Tillman s body to cover up evidence (1). Even though Tillman died in a

Comparing Beowulf And Dante s Inferno
A hero from classical Greek mythology and ancient Greek history can be defined as A man (or
occas. a woman) of superhuman strength, courage, or ability, favored by the gods; especially
regarded as semi divine and immortal, and a Christian is defined as Believing, professing, or
belonging to the religion of Christ. To be a Christian hero, one must derive from both these
characteristics and live life through them. Beowulf and Dante from there different stories
comparably does this. They both can be looked as great heroes in each story, but one shows there
God given faith and abilities more. Through being a hero through Christ, undying faithfulness
towards the lord, and being regarded as immortal through god s protection, Beowulf is the better
example of a Christian hero.
A major attribute of a Christian hero is being a hero through Christ. Beowulf never lets his
glorious triumphs go unannounced without attributing his blessing to god. He sees god as the
reason he is great and never misses a chance to profess it. Even after Beowulf defeated Grendel in
battle, Beowulf gave God the glory for the fight. First and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

People seen this and were astonished. Winning battles as well as challenges that pushed him to
his limit, he never failed to give thanks to the lord. Consequently, this gave Beowulf the image
that he was immortal through god s protection. For example, after Beowulf slayed Grendel and
was celebrated for it with many gifts, Hrothgar spoke of Beowulf as a man, with the lord s
assistance (who)... has accomplished something none... of the men in the kingdom could do. This
shows that Beowulf succumbs himself to gods glory. To be viewed by so many people as

as if it was alongside under the control of the British. The British did not have enough power to
rule the entire country of Sudan while they attempted to have power over half of the world, so
they had to split it up which is called the divide and rule policy. The separating of provinces slowed
down the progression in their social and economical lives in Southern Sudan.

Let Me Die
Let Me Die I Want Eternity In May Miller s Poem Death is not Master the persona explains that
death is not the master that will increase desperation, but it is a way to become eternally calm.
Many poems on the topic of death explain how it is as powerful of a thing that fears the
existence of human beings, but Miller s persona death is used in such way to achieve eternal
serenity. She explains death as something that can end all the worlds tears, desires and tension
and transform the human memory into a sculpture which is unaware of tensions. Miller s
persona believes that by blocking death it will be unfair as it will be a barrier to the everlasting
happiness and calmness that lies inside the grave. It is an elaboration of Christian beliefs of
how death ends all worldly problems as an eternal life starts after the death. The eternal life of a
human or corpse after death is same as that of sculpture which shines at night and remains in one
place free of all tensions and problems. As the life after death is full of calmness and happiness,
so it must not be blocked and everyone must welcome it to gain the everlasting lasting life. Thus,
conveying Miller s idea of how the perspective death is not the master; instead, it is the slave of
eternal life of serenity and calmness that lies ahead. So, no one should try to become a barrier by
blocking the death. Repetition of you six times and I three times symbolizes the relationship
between I and You who love each other

  • 2. Wangari Maathai s Nobel Peace Prize Acceptance Speech... Wangari Maathai expresses her gratitude to the world for her Nobel Peace Prize, and also calls her audience to action. Her goal is to convince the world that the environment has much more importance than most people seem to realize. In her speech she begins by expressing her gratitude, and persuading her audience that she is worth listening to. Second she discusses the importance of the environment and explains how the Green Belt Movement has helped and changed the world. She then clarifies the problems still occurring. After establishing the problems, she goes on to make her call to action. Lastly, she ends by establishing pathos. Maathai expresses her gratitude in the beginning of the speech. She thanks all the people that made the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She does this to ensure the listeners that taking care of the environment does much more than make the world we live in look better. Taking care of the environment also takes part in ensuring a successful democracy and many other important things in society. The idea that Maathai is attempting to get across to everyone is that the Earth is our friend and we should give back what we take. She helps us understand this by explaining the awful chain reactions that occur when we don t replenish what we have consumed from Earth. Third, she makes her call to action. She asks everyone to take part in something to help the environment. She addresses each group of people separately. Men and women of all races, children, young adults, everyone, can take part in something to help. In the course of history, there comes a time when humanity is called to shift to a new level of consciousness, to reach a higher moral ground. A time when we have to shed our fear and give hope to each other. That time is now. (4) Her sentence structure of That time is now, really gives emphasis on what she wants. It is short and to the point. It s also a very simple sentence. She didn t replace simple words with fancier words. This shows that what she is asking from people isn t rocket science. She is asking for something as simple as planting trees or recycling. Her call to action is for everyone to contribute to helping take care of the environment in some way. ... • 3. Human Blood As A Blood Substitute By the end of the 20th century many firms were trying to create a Blood Substitute and had pumped in huge amount of money for its research. Biopure had spent over $200 Million with the primary goal of developing a Human Blood Substitute. It s entry into the animal market was by chance and their continued efforts in the field was an opportunistic pursuit. However, its animal product called Oxyglobin had received the final FDA approval while Hemopure was about to enter phase III clinical trials. The Oxyglobin and Hemopure substitutes developed by Biopure have an advantage over blood transfusions in many areas including blood type matching, universality in terms of donating, such as O+ blood recipients. The blood substitutes also had a much longer storage life of 2 years as opposed to the 6 week storage life of transfused blood. Furthermore, with the rise of diseases such as AIDS and increasing public concern about the same, blood substitutes also helped mitigate that risk. Baxter International and Northfield Laboratories products sourced their blood substitutes from human blood whereas, Biopure sourced it from animal blood, cattle in particular. This put them in a better position than their competitors. Also Biopure s Hemopure and Oxyglobin did not require refrigeration unlike its competitor s products. As technological improvements and industrialization increased, the use of automobiles increased which also led to auto and industrial accidents. The blood substitutes for ... • 6. The And Caste Discrimination By Kancha Ilaiah s Why I Am... All religious communities in India are afflicted by an unfortunate evil tendency of exclusion. A sad trend of hatred has emerged in the battle against casteism and caste based discrimination. Kancha Ilaiah s Why I am not a Hindu (the non fictional bestseller of 1996) has been constructed as an expression of the voice of post Independence Dalitbahujan consciousness, which was an integral part of their socio political movement. Born in a small South Indian Telangana village in the 1950s, his is the voice of the harassed subaltern, which exposes rampant cultural contradictions and practices. He talks about the marginalized and victimized identity, where they were not only neither included nor respected, but also looked down upon and repelled. The battle against disturbing dehumanizing social evils is manifested in the emergence of disparate groups having one thing in common deep hatred for Hindus. He implores the upper stratas to read and understand what the Other (here, an un Hindu Indian) has to say, for, he believes that those who refuse to listen to new questions and learn new answers will perish and not prosper. The voice of the alienated existence of the subalterns on every level of experience makes us question certain trends of action and thoughts inscribed in our subconscious and evident in our consciousness. Though the book brims with undisguised and unidirectional attacks and opinions, which the readers might find appallingly biased, yet his voice deserves to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the poem Goblin Market , one thing Christina Rossetti focuses on is feminism. The story starts off as introducing the two girls, Laura and Lizzie that are also sisters. The two girls decide to go on a walk. They run across a little fruit stand where these goblins are selling fruit. In the poem Rossetti describes the goblins as very gruesome and ugly. Also in the poem, the two girls appearance is never mentioned which can make the reader think why they were approached by the goblin men. Well the best way to choose is to do a little research on the foundation, find out what they are about, were the money is going and exactly how it is all spent. Chances are most non profit foundations are a good choice as there is no big paycheck from the work they are doing. Some of the large foundations, like the wounded warrior project have been taking a lot of heat recently about the director taking money for his own pocket and not putting it back into helping the wounded soldiers. • 12. Kant s Categorical Imperative Of The Modern Era Emmanuel Kant was an influential philosopher and strong proponent of the modern era. Besides his large contribution to epistemology and metaphysics, his work in ethics was just as substantial. Kant s ethics came to propose an objective morality, where moral judgments is not only true according to a person s subjective view. He believed the moral worth of an action is not determined by its consequence but the motive behind it. Through Kant s ethics, he demonstrates this duty through his unconditional moral principle, the categorical imperative. The categorical imperative expresses that moralityis not about the outcome (good or bad), but the right action regardless of the outcome. It is the responsibility to do one s duty for its own sake and not in pursuit of one s own desire. One formulation of Kant s categorical imperative instructs us to act only in such a way that I can also will that my maxim should become a universal law. Before going into the formulation, a maxim for Kant is just not a rule for how to act but a middle stage between experience and the categorical imperative. Kant describes this as a subjective rule , that is, a rule that is deliberated at the subjective level. Consider a case of human interaction, in which one has to decide his behavior in the form, X does such an action to Y . We may ask the moral question should X do such an action to Y? This defense basically states that the accused cannot be held responsible for what he/she did because they had no control over their actions. Many times the defense attorney will plea for a deal that the defendant be sent to a mental rehabilitation center for proper treatment. When using this defense the defense attorney will argue that there may be a chemical imbalance in his brain therefore he had no idea what he was doing at the time. Monte Durham was a 23 year old who had been in and out of prison and mental institutions since he was 17. He was convicted for housebreaking in 1953, and his attorney appealed. Although the district court judge had ruled that Durham s attorneys had failed to prove he didn t know the difference between right and wrong, the federal appellate judge chose to use the case to reform the McNaughton rule. Citing leading psychiatrists and jurists of the day, the appellate judge stated that the McNaughton rule was based on an entirely obsolete and misleading conception of the nature of insanity. He overturned Durham s conviction and established a new rule. The Durham rule states that an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act was the product of mental disease or mental defect. The Durham rule was eventually rejected by the federal courts, because it cast too broad a net. Alcoholics, compulsive gamblers, and drug addicts had successfully used the defense to defeat a wide variety of crimes. (Legal information institute, Cornell university law school). By providing job security, teachers can concentrate on teaching, instead of worrying about overly obsessed parents coming after them. This document is a primary source because John Calvinwrote it in 1541 in Geneva (Brophy, 432). While speaking to one of the workers I was told that the animals do not get to come out of their kennels to often because, since the shelter is a nonprofit shelter they depend a lot on the donations from the public. Let me tell you what Malala Yousafzai did when the Taliban forbade girls in her village from completing their education. She is recognized as a worldwide champion of women s educational rights. She fought for her and her classmates rights to go to school at great personal peril, and despite life threatening attacks and injury. Malala accomplished many things at a young age, despite all the struggles she went through, including getting shot by the Taliban, but she overcame everything and won a Nobel Peace Prize for making a difference in women s education around the world. • 38. The Immigration Of The United States Essay Immigration in the United States has had a contentious history since this country s first settlers, with overtly exclusive and xenophobic policies being de rigueur throughout colonialism until the mid 20th century, and arguably today. Anti immigrant sentiment has reigned with each historical immigration wave, intensifying as the demographics shifted from Northern and Western Europeans during Colonialism to more unassimilable races like Southern and Eastern European, Asian, African and Middle Eastern ( History of Oppression: Lesson 4 Cultural Imperialism , 2016). Policy is inescapably shaped by public sentiment, and the American white majority believed in the objective supremacy of the Nordic race to exercise political, economic and social control over inferior races (Grant, 1916). This is in stark conflict with the Constitutional values that America is built on, and to whom many have gestured to in the same breath as their anti immigrant vitriol. It is in this contrast that one must look at the social constructions of immigrants, race and who is worthy of citizenship, and how our country has historically sought to deny and restrict those considered a threat to the American way of life (Jimenez, Pasztor, Chambers, Fujii, 2015, p. **). Science Fiction and Transcendence, David Desser gives multiple examples of elements of the hard boiled universe in Blade Runner: Deckard is an ex cop, an ex blade runner, doubtless in part because of the corruption of the system as seen in Captain Bryant, who calls replicants skin jobs (the equivalent of calling black people niggers), and in Gaff, who dresses like a dandy. Most importantly, however, Deckard is alienated from his fellow man, divorced that is, not only from his wife (who he tells us, thought of him as sushi cold fish ), but from all of humanity. It is ironic and significant that when Deckard does finally fall in love, does finally make a genuine emotional commitment, it is with a replicant a woman who is not a human. Similarly, in the novel Of Mice and Men by Steinbeck, George, and Lennie s dream of owning a farm gets destroyed by Curley. In the poem To a Mouse by Burns, the speaker writes an apology to the mouse for the way it gets treated by humans. The speaker describes the mouse as a sleek, tiny, timorous, cowering beast that is running away from humans. He tells the mouse that he does not need to run away from him. He says to the mouse, why dash away, so quick, so rash, in a frenzied flash when I would be loath to run after you . The speaker means no harm but the mouse s first instinct is to run when he sees humans because he expects to get chased by humans. The speaker understands the reasons for the mouse sometimes stealing food. The narrator says I have no doubt you sometimes shiver; What of it, friend? You too must live! He knows that the mouse must find a way to get food, so it can survive. The little mouse had a home built to keep warm but the farmer with the plow unintentionally destroyed its home. When apologizing to the mouse the speaker says Your tiny house lies in a ruin, its fragile walls and rent and strewn! Now nothing s left to build you a new one of mosses green. The mouse plans to have a home for winter gets destroyed. The farmer destroying the mouse s home shows that dreams and plans can be destroyed by something or someone. ... These fires are releasing more CO2 and other toxic chemicals in a few months than most countries do all year. The fires are also producing a thick smoky haze that is clouding the entire area. What is the exact cause of this problem? Scientists are quick to point out several causes, but one that is standing out is the defiant act of setting ablaze fields for the use of farmland. The Indonesian government has taken a stand against the fire, but has done nothing to actually stop the farmers from destroying the land. The actual problem is that the farmers are burning their land to make way for their crops. The farmers not only set the fires in the first place, but also chop down trees to make land open for crops. This deforestation adds to the problem because they just let the trees lay and the wood tries and is perfect kindling for the fires. This logging for the way of plantations is one cause that is leading the way. The government has no real reason to stop the farmers because they are bringing in the money for the country. Students need a well rounded schedule to prepare them for the years to come. It is obvious that they need the basic classes such as math, science, English, and social sciences. Here, the narrator explains that the King was very upset when he saw that Imoinda was in love with Oroonoko, but he ridded himself of these sad feelings by sending her the royal veil which forced her to become one of his wives. This shows that the King has a selfish nature because he could not overcome his desire for Imoinda and let her marry Oroonoko. This selfishness leads him to betray Oroonoko.
