Proposed Solutions for Problems with the Federal...
The Federal Government owns nearly 30 percent of the United States land mass almost 650
million acres of land (Paul, 2012). National parks, National Forests, and National Wildlife Refuges
comprise the federally owned and managed public areas. These areas are managed by three main
entities: The National Park Service (NPS), The Bureau of Land Management(BLM), and the Fish
and Wildlife Service (FWS) (Edwards, 2012). The primary goal of these three agencies is to avoid
the tragedy of the commons by preserving the natural resources on these lands, while still exhibiting
economic growth based on them. Although, the Cato Institute study conducted in 2009 revealed
shortcomings in the current managed plan. It showed overgrazed BLM lands,... Show more content

The federal government in 1976 Congress passed an Act requiring BLM to maximize economic
recovery of federal coal sources in Powder River Basin, for US use (could last nearly a century),
but in recent years the government is considering exporting to Asia (decreasing the coal supply
to as little as 25 years). The Basin accounts for 14 percent of the US yearly carbon emissions
(Tuholske, 2014). Environmentalists have been pleading with the government for decades,
including the Obama administration, to consider the environmental impact of extensive mining
practices, but have been ignored thus far. Privatizing the land may give the area some relief,
because the results of the owners actions will weigh directly on them. It may keep the resources
in the US and the divergence from coal growing as disapproval rates soar. Also, a large portion of
the remaining coal lies under already privately owned land, so there is not really a compelling
argument as to why the rest of the land should not be released (Edwards, 2012).
Another option for privatization would be to sell refuges or parks to conservation land trusts. A
few land trusts include the Nature Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited. Private land trusts have tax
exempts and benefit from a large nation wide group of volunteers. Land trusts are also more likely
to charge efficient fees for land uses, instead of artificially low rates that the government charges.
However, land trusts do

Starbucks Global Quest
Starbucks Financial analysis 2005

Strategic Management and Business Policy

April 11, 2012
Over the past twenty five years, Starbucks has been leading the coffee revolution and turned a dying
industry upside down by mainstreaming their stores and creating a public fascination. From the
beginning of Starbucks stores through 2006, they have opened stores all over the U.S. and will be
taking it overseas. Starbucks is leading the coffee revolution and has expanded their reach all over
the world. With this much growth, it is easy for the company to lose their edge by forgetting the
reasons they have become so large from the beginning. In this analysis, I am going to go over an
economic assessment, marketing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everywhere you look you are bombarded with cups, coasters, spoons and anything else related to
coffee. The customer service is dropping and this is ultimately bringing down their profits and is
not due to the availability of growth.
Starbucks is still only supplying less than 5 percent of the coffee market. With this low of a number
there is still much more growth that can take place within the industry. This number allows for
many more stores to be added to their list of future prospects. Weber states that competitiveness is
related to company effectiveness, which is determined by whether the company satisfies the needs
of stakeholders (groups affected by business practices). Important stakeholders include stockholders,
who want a return on their investment; customers, who want a high quality product or service; and
employees, who desire interesting work and reasonable compensation for their services. The
community, which wants the company to contribute to activities and projects and minimize
pollution of the environment, is also an important stakeholder. Companies that do not meet
stakeholders needs are unlikely to have a competitive advantage over other firms in their industry.
The economy is still moving ahead strong and the possibility of their becoming a recession are
starting to become a bit more possible. The finances of the company are very strong and one of the

The Illuminati In The 19th Century
Throughout the United States history and existence one conspiracy has remained intact for
generations and generations which to this day remains a mystery. The Illuminati. The Illuminati is
an elite organization of world leaders, business authorities, innovators, artists, and other influential
members of this planet. Their coalition unites influencers of all political, religious, and
geographical backgrounds to further the prosperity of the human species as a whole. The primary
concern that individuals don t understand is that there are two definitely diverse records of who
precisely the Illuminati are. The advanced Illuminati are what these bits of gossip rotate around.

be that the half naked model drove the luxury car around, seeing as how she is holding a helmet.
That she was doing stunts and or reckless driving around to showcase the car and decided it
would attract more publicity to be in what appears to be a swimsuit. The simple fact alone could
be that the women is a power body in society and, as previously stated chose to be dressed the way
she is doing tasks with the luxury vehicle. Another sense of the meaning could be the

and HDPE. HDPE plastic is manufactured from petroleum and is considerably to be a lot
stronger than LDPE plastic. HDPE plastic can also be welded and these plastics are often found
in larger plastic items, because of its great strength and durability. One of the first items that
HDPE was used to make was the hula hoop. HDPE plastic can be found in tables and chairs,
storage sheds, snowboard rails and boxes. Thicker pieces of HDPE plastic are used for
plumbing, automotive fittings and storage containers. HDPE plastic can also be recycled but,
like LDPE plastic it will also lose some of its quality the second time it is used. Polyethylene
plastic was accidently discovered through experiments many years ago and it can now be found in
about everything we use in the modern life today. It is the most popular plastic in the world today....

Deductive Approach Paper
The inductive approach to research refers to a strategy where the researcher starts the study
gathering all the data relevant to the topic being studied. When they have collected all the necessary
information, the researcher conducts an in depth review of the data with the aim of developing a
deep understanding of the concept being studied. The researcher explores the data making
observations on crucial points and establishing all the significant patterns crucial to determining the
outcomes. Then, the researcher develops a theory that helps him to explain the reasons for the
development of the observed patterns. Therefore, the technique involves the shift from the
specifics to a general observation that can be applied in the overall case. After the analysis of the
data, the researcher explores the existing theories on the topic and positions the newly developed
theory within the existing body of knowledge (Creswell, 2003).
The deductive approach is the opposite of the procedure followed in inductive research. The study

Hunting And Feasting
In order to protect vital food sources, past heritages, traditions, and cultural values for future
generations, the government should not ban the practice of hunting wild animals. Author
Jacqueline Thursby argues, in her article Hunting and Feasting in Utah and Idaho that this region
is rugged country; it is no easy task, even today, to make a living there, and wild game continues
to serve as a mainstay for some families (103). Most urban families take for granted the
accessibility of the supermarket; a convenience that is hardly used for these communities in Utah
and Idaho, mostly thriving off of what the earth provides for them. Banning the right to hunt in this
region would be similar to closing down all providers of foodin big cities,

Shame from what I had done to Pluto. But slowly, very slowly I began despise it. I avoided the cat

any theory that denies the story of divine creation as taught by the Bible. But to teach instead that
man was descended from a lower order of animals. It was in the small town of Dayton, Tennessee
where a 24 year old fresh out of college , high school substitute named John Scopes taught the

John Scopes was then charged with teaching evolution in public school. The proceeding trial will

group of young ladies at the game watching him play. I find myself saying to my mother what,
were those clothes painted on her ? and all the boy s stair at this young lady, they are drooling at

becoming boyfriend and girlfriend for the last two weeks of the eighth grade year. I will never
forget the first time you realize that boys are no longer gross and that now you rather spend time

When a man sends me a picture of himself naked all I can think about is, what is the purpose of
this picture, am I supposed to be drooling at the mouth, am I supposed to tell yeah come on over
and give it to me. Women need more than a naked picture of a women to get turned on. This
article made me want to write an article about, what is it is like for a young woman to grow up and
how they want a man to look at them. I loved how Sanders

What Is George Berkeley s Argument Against The View Of...
George Berkeley is a philosopher against the views of materialism. He presents his argument against
materialism using dialogues between two characters. The first character is Philonous, who is meant
to represent George Berkeley and his viewpoints that humans see nothing more than ideas. The
second character is named Hylas. Hylas is meant to represent the views of a materialist. A
materialist believes everything has a foundation in matter, and therefore humans see objects as they
are. In the first dialogue between Philonous and Hylas, they discuss their understanding of the
senses as related to matter. More specifically, they are in a debate about whether the senses are a
necessary part of matter. Hylas believes matter is a substance that exists without someone needing
to perceive it. Philonous believes matter cannot exist without someone having some mental
understanding of it, and in the event that no physical being is present to perceive... Show more

In their discussion, Philonous states that an object cannot be two colors at once and therefore
the color seen is based the viewer s perception. Hylas replies by stating that under ideal
conditions the object will be seen as one color, because that is the object s true color. Hylas
presents his objection to Philonous point that an object cannot be two things at once by getting
to the root of what causes beings to see color. Hylas argues that light is a material that interacts
with the mind to give a perception of some color. More clearly, the mind can only perceive
objects who possess qualities that can be understood through the senses. Hylas is arguing that
matter in itself has qualities that can be seen in different ways depending on the person, however
even if people have conflicting perceptions, the object will always possess its quality. For
example, in the case of the chair being seen as white or yellow depending on the person, under a
microscope the chair will always be one

Essay On Culture Clash
Effects of Education through Culture Clash
My skin should not define me... but it does. My proficiency should not determine my
intelligence but it does. Judith Cofer once said, The way our teachers and classmates looked at
us that day in school was just a taste of the culture clash that awaited us in the real world. Not
only does culture clash affect people on a personal level but the effects of education can be
affected on an academic and personal level. Culture clash causes a chain of events to occur such as
racism and discrimination based on skin color and proficiency. This discrimination affects people s
academics, education, and overall knowledge which causes financial disadvantages and lifestyle
struggles. Education and Lifestyle knowledge has become essential to success not just to
foreigners but everyone. School is not necessary but it is possible to learn things every day..
Whether it was caused by an action resorting to learning something or reading on any topic you
desire. A variety of obstacles can occur from preventing you to thrive intellectually. Racism is an
issue that has been going on for centuries which often leads to segregation and discrimination.
People get judged by their skin color, overall knowledge, and prowess (proficiency). Segregation
based on Racism causes people from wanting to exceed in life, often making you feel unfit in
society. Just like many women, Cofer also believed There are, however, thousands of Latinas

Why The 1981 Failed At Reforming Social Security Under The...
The reasons why the 1981 attempt at reforming Social Security under the Reagan administration
failed, as detailed in Chapter 8 of Martha Derthick and Steven M Teles The Reagan Presidency:
Pragmatic Conservatism and its Legacies, boils down to the following factors: it did not have a
clear goal in mind about Social Securityreform (Derthick, Teles 187), it had a poor working
relationship with Congress on the issue (Derthick, Teles 185), and leadership, on part of the
president, was lacking (Derthick, Teles 192). In contrast, the attempt at reforming welfare in the
90s, as chronicled in Chapter 4 of Gary Bryner s The Great American Welfare Reform Debate

Those who have paid into the system expect to get their money back when they retire, which
makes cutting benefits politically hazardous and explains, in part, why the Reagan
Administration s attempt at reforming Social Security failed. Social Security was facing
insolvency if steps were not taken to resolve the gap between benefits going out and tax receipts
being collected (Derthick, Teles 183). This prompted many actors in the political sphere to take
part in the reform effort. The most influential actors in this process were Office of Management
and Budget director David Stockman, Speaker of the House Tip O Neill, President Reagan,
Congress, and the Department of Health and Human Services. As a political actor, David
Stockman was not too interested in the possible political repercussions of Social Security
reform. Instead, he was mainly focused on the budget cutting aspect of reform, irrespective of
Congress reaction. Stockman was the main proponent of the administration s Social Security
reform proposal sent to Congress that had deep and immediate cuts in benefits for early retirees
(Derthick, Teles, 184). When Congress saw this proposal, they quickly disowned it (Derthick,
Teles, 184). Speaker of the House Tip O Neill used this reform proposal and its ensuing rebuff from
Congress to his political advantage; as a result, Democrats would forever portray

The Opium Wars
Imperial China was one of the greatest civilizations. It was leading in its inventions, trading routes,
and craftsmanship. Beginning in 221 BC, it lasted up till the final Qing Dynasty. It s downfall can
be attributed to the introduction of the drug, opium, from the west. It s introduction inspired two
wars, namely The Opium wars of the 19th century. In the 18th century, the country was flourishing,
while it had control of international trade. By the 19th century, China had lost control of trade and
was struggling with mass amounts of poverty and addiction.
Many assume that because of the Qing Dynasty 1644 1912, China had no outside contact with the
world. However, this is false. Since the 16th century the imperial court had been receiving
European diplomatic and religious missions. From 1760 Canton or what is called now Guangzho, a
city north easy of Hong Kong, had the monopoly on foreign trade within China. During this time,
China had many cultural and diplomatic procedures involving foreign trade. Foreigners interacted
with Cohongs, licensed chinese merchants. More and more Europeans began to get involved with
trade in China and the city of Canton flourished with international trade. China had many exotic and
high quality products to sell to Europeans. Silk, tea, herbs, spices, and porcelain were among the
chief exports. Tea, being the most popular export to Great Britain, was in high

The Four Stages Of Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer is one of the most common cancers in women. The medical definition of breast
cancer according to the American Cancer Society is a malignant tumor that starts in cells of the
breast . there are two different kinds of breast cancer, Noninvasive or invasive. Which then
categorizes the cancer into four stages. depending on the size, and the location of the canceras well
as invasive or noninvasive.
The development of the cancer is unknown, it has been around since the beginning of time. Early
physicians rarely mentioned the cancer in their medical books since it was considered strange and
taboo. Which led to never researching the cause of the deformity of the breast. In those days and
times if the breast were deformed it was embarrassment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Throughout the years, the treatment of breast cancer has expanded. Treatments are considered in
two different categories such as local therapy and systemic therapy. Local therapy consist of surgery
and radiation, which will remove the cancer cells without disturbing the rest of the body. Systemic
therapy uses the drugs to reach the cancer cells, which consists of chemotherapy, hormone
therapy, targeted therapy and bone directed therapy. Also treatment can be classified as adjuvant
or neoadjuvant therapy. The adjuvant therapy consist of the systemic therapy. The neoadjuvant
therapy is when chemotherapy or radiation is given to in order to shrink the the tumor before the
surgery, so the surgery will be less extensive. In the event of surgery the option of breast
conserving surgery or a mastectomy. A mastectomy is when one or both breast are surgically
removed. Either partially or completely the whole breast is removed. There are three types of
mastectomy which include simple mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy and radical mastectomy.
The difference between the three is how much is left after the surgery, for example the simple
mastectomy removes the whole breast including the nipple. While the skin sparing mastectomy
will leave majority of the skin for reconstruction surgery can take place. Lastly the radical
mastectomy is when the the whole breast and axillary lymph nodes plus the chest wall muscle is
removed. Breast conserving surgery is used for women in stage one and stage two. This surgery
option only removes the cancerous part of the breast. After every surgery there are typical pain
and swelling side effects, other side effects with an mastectomy and breast conserving surgery are
scaring tissues. Radiation therapy is the treatment of high energy rays that target the cancer cell. Its
also used to help when the cancer spreads. There are two different ways to give radiation. External

Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing Essay
Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing
I would like to take this time to explain my position on Plea Bargains and Mandatory Sentencing.
I will show both pros and cons for each topic, as well as give you my personal brief on which one I
support.
There are two types of plea bargains : The first one is a charge bargain. When the prosecutor
allows a defendant to quot;plead guilty to a lesser charge , or to only some of the charges that have
been filed against him. For example, a defendant charged with burglary may be offered the
opportunity to plead guilty to quot;attempted burglary quot;. A defendant charged with Drunk
Driving and Driving with License Suspended may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to just
the drunk driving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I do not agree that we should offer someone a sentence bargain. If the individual committed the
crime then he/she should have to do the time. So, when Justice Stewart wrote in Blackledge v.
Allison that plea bargaining can benefit all concerned , I think that is only partly correct. Sure it
benefits defendants, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges, but what about the victims or their
families. I like what District Attorney Gibbons was trying to do, if it was all or none with no
exceptions. The only time that I feel that plea bargains should not be used is in any murder or rape
charge.
The second thing we must look at is mandatory sentencing. I agree that we should have
mandatory sentencing. You can read different studies that it does not work and it takes power
away from judges. Sometimes trial rates and sentencing delays occur because of mandatory
sentencing. Just think of how many repeat offenders we would have if it was not in place. I do
think that it is somewhat of a deterrent for the small time users on the street. Research has shown
that it is the low level street dealers, mules and addicts that this affects most, but if we didn t start
with them then where? You must punish the user just as much as the dealer or kingpins . The
dealers would not have any business if it was not for the users and if we can get to them easier than
the main dealers, than I am all for mandatory sentencing.
As you can see I m for mandatory sentencing and for

Centralized Failure Detection In The Monitoring System
The centralized approach is to recognize the most frequently used approach and to diagnose
abnormal data readouts caused by a monitoring process, malfunctions of the components of the
sensor node, or environmental events. In the centralized failure detection, each sensor node
periodically collects its read and sends a packet on the radio to the central base node responsible
for identifying faulty sensor nodes in WSN. In this concern, there are many research activities
were reported. Gupta and Younis tried to provide a tolerant grouping mechanism to fail to provide
the sensor by performing a sensor recovery in the runes in which the bridge has recovered. The
mechanism is separated into two phases: 1) detection step for detecting whether or... Show more

CNBD analyzed the aggregated data to the sink by the transfer time from end to end to obtain a
higher battery power of each node [83]. Guo and et. al. have suggested a Faulty Node Detection
(FIND) to WSN. FIND is a method for nodes with data errors capturing a centralized approach,
without specific recognition model taking into account. It is measured to measure the signal
attenuation distance [84]. Saihi and et al. used to create a centralized error detection method based
on clustering approach, the exchange of messages heartbeat actively scalable and balanced
applications for WSN [85]. In April 2016, Tahir and et al. evaluated a nominal power consumption
in wireless sensor networks through a system through which a small number of high energy nodes
collect both location information and the residual power state of the read nodes, then they are
transmitted to the base station (BS). The authors suggested an algorithm in which a minor
proportion of the high energy nodes are used to transmit each node s information to Base Station
(BS) [86]. 3.5. Distributed approach The decentralized approach is about capturing central resources
for detection and faster localization and healing. It combines the availability of the information
back to leverage the central approach and low overhead communication. In distributed detection of
errors, the sensor nodes themselves monitor their conditions

Steele reports that the latest collective bargaining deal reportedly provides a $1 billion increase
in benefits for former players, and $620 million of that being designated to player pensions. I
couldn t agree with Steele more when he states that the NFL is a $9 billion dollar industry and
needs to take further steps to protecting its former players (Steele, 2011). The NFL attempted to
appease former NFL players by coming up with a benefit plan known as the 88 plan . The plan
was designed to provide money for the care of former players suffering from dementia. Goodell
was quoted in the article stating, The men who played professional football decades ago deserve
our respect and recognition, and their contributions to our game must never be overlooked.
Neither I nor the NFL clubs will turn our backs on them. (Mihoces, 2007) The NFL would later
expand the requirements for the 88 plan due to the findings of Boston University researchers. The
88 Plan was developed to assist former players with medical expenses related to dementia,
amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (A.L.S.), or Lou Gehrig s disease. Researchers found that deceased
players that were diagnosed with A.LS. actually had a different disease that cause degeneration of
the central nervous system. The discovery led researchers to link the players condition with athletic
brain trauma (SCHWARZ, 2010). The 88 Plan was created

Essay about Lower the Drinking Age
Lower the Drinking Age Everyone knows that it is illegal to consume alcohol under the age of
21. Why is 21 the magical age that makes a person intelligent and mature enough to consume
alcohol? Sure, some adults abuse alcohol and some teenagers would be perfectly able to drink
responsibly, but why not 18 or 35 or 40? This seemingly random number, 21, is associated with
adulthood, as if the day a person turns 21 they know everything and are mature. The drinking
age should be lowered to where one can learn to drink responsibly. First, the drinking age used to be
18 in some states. Many of today?s parents were legally allowed to drink at 18. Today, teenagers
are faced with more responsibility and are treated more like adults... Show more content on

According to Wechsler, this was during National Prohibition in the 1920s and State Prohibition
in the 1850s. These laws were finally repealed because they were unenforceable and because the
reaction towards them caused other social problems. Today we are repeating history and making
the same mistakes that occurred in the past. It did not work then and it is not working now.
Thirdly, since the law was passed in 1987, which raised the legal age from 18 to 21, there has
been a decrease in car crashes but at the same time there has been an increase in other problems
related to heavy, irresponsible drinking. This movement, the law that was passed, that swept all
50 states, may actually have made the bingeing worse. When teens drink, they know it will
probably be a while before they?ll have liquor again, so they make up for it by drinking in larger
quantities. According the College Health Survey 96, cutting class after drinking jumped from
9% in 1982 to almost 12% in 1996. Also, missing class because of a hangover rose from 26% to
28% and getting a lower grade went from 5% to 7%. It is this consumption of large amounts that
is causing so many problems among the youth of America. ?By setting a high drinking age, what
we have inadvertently done is say that drinking is an adult activity, and that makes it especially
appealing to younger people,? says David Hanson. It makes it a thrill for the younger drinkers.

Tidal Power
Engineering Design for Sustainability
TIDAL WAVE ENERGY
Introduction
Tidal power is a form of energy which derives directly from the relative motions of the Earth/Moon
system, and to a lesser extent from the Earth/Sol system.
Tidal energy is gained from the exchange of large bodies of water. Changes in water levels, and
associated tidal currents, are due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. This makes Tidal
Power completely predictable; furthermore, because it is created by relative motion of the special
bodies, it is in exhaustible.
Therefore Tidal power is much more reliable than other renewable sources such as wind or solar
power and will long outlast fossil fuels.
Tidal Power in the UK
It is estimated that tidal power ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At high tide sea water flows into the reservoir through a one way gate. The gate closes when the
tide begin to fall and when the tide is low enough, the stored water is released at pressure through
turbines, back into the sea. The rotation of these turbines generates electricity.
The first commercial scale tidal generating barrage rated at 240 MW was built in La Rance. There
is smaller plant in Nova Scotia, rated at 20 megawatts (enough power for 4,500 homes).
The Dam for the tidal power plant on the estuary of the Rance River, Bretagne, France
The viability of Barrage systems has been questioned due to high civil infrastructure costs and
environmental issues. Although this method have proven very durable, barrage style power plants
are very expensive to build and are fraught with environmental problems from the accumulation of
silt within the dam catchment area (requiring regular, expensive dredging).
There are only a few potential sites across the globe and there are only three functioning plants
worldwide (Rance River, Bay of Fundy and Kislaya Guba).
Tidal Stream Systems
Engineers have created two new kinds of devices to harness the energy of tidal currents and
generate renewable, pollution free electricity. These are: Vertical axis and Horizontal axis models.
They are determined by the orientation of a subsea, rotating shaft that turns a gearbox linked to a
turbine with

Lethal Injection
Lethal injection is now almost the main method of execution in the US, with all but one of the 39
executions carried out during 2013 being by this method. Deadly injection changes from state to
state.Normally, the prisoner is strapped to a gurney or a fixed execution table, rather than an
operating room table by leather or webbing straps over the body and legs. All the chemicals used in
the USA are standard medical drugs. Sodium thiopental is an ultra short acting barbiturate which
was used widely as an anaesthetic and causes unconsciousness very quickly if injected into a vein.

Cholesterol affects everyone at some point in time. Cholesterol is a lipid, a soft, fat like substance

Susan B. Anthony And The Equal Pay Act
Imagine being told that you do not need as much pay as a man because your husband is a
professor and you do not need the money. This was the truth for Maxine Lampe when she
addressed the school district about being paid less. Before her husband was done with graduate
school, she brought the issue up with the school where she worked and was told that she could not
get the head of household pay that menreceived, even though she was the breadwinner. This is not
the only account of this happening. All over the country, women are getting paid less than men and
being told that it s okay. It is not okay.
Gender equality is something that has been a problem through the ages. Susan B. Anthony and
many others fought for the right to vote which was granted in 1920. In 1963, President John F.
Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act into law stating that no employer can discriminate based on
gender. The American Association of University Women published a graph on Women s Median
Annual Earnings as a Percentage of Men s Median Annual Earnings for Full time, Year round
Workers, 1974 2014 and it shows that in 1974, women were paid 59% of what men were paid.
The graph shows the improvements over the years and that in 2014, women were paid 79% of
what men were paid. The gap has not budged since 2014. The gender pay gap has improved over
the years, but it will not close until new legislation passes.
Over time, the gap has changed for the better. The gap has improved for many reasons but many of

Child And Teen Beauty Pageants
It is not easy to be in the public s eye and constantly being watched can take a toll on a person.
Hundreds of child stars have grown up to be consumed with depression, eating disorders, drug
and alcohol addiction, and severe self esteem issues. So why would children that perform in
child and teen beauty pageants be any different? They are constantly being judged by their
looks, their actions, their poise and posture, their attitude and behaviors, the list goes on and on.
That could severely affect the way these children see themselves as they get older. When a child
is constantly being watched and criticized in every aspect, they develop a complex and a need to
be perfect, when in fact perfection does not exist. This is when their depression or drug addictions
might seep in, when they realize they can never live up to the standards that others have set on
them. This is a very dangerous place to be, and no child or teenager should have to suffer through
such a time as this. Childhood should be full of playing outside with friends, going to the pool or
amusement park, visiting the beach or the mountains with family. It shouldn t consist of
maintaining perfection with all the fakeness day in and day out, or there could be some very real
consequences that might follow. Although there are massive amounts of negatives that go along
with child beauty pageants, there are also some positive aspects to them. Some women have gained
a great deal of success from entering into beauty

disobedience is the act of standing for your beliefs even though they are against the law. Thoreau
goes on to say that the government (because it is ruled by the majority) is not always right for
everyone especially the individual and the minority. Over the course of American history, there
have been many different groups formed for the purpose of civil disobedience. The two that I am
going to focus on are the activists of the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Panthers of the
Black Liberation Movement. The Civil Rights Movement began in 1954 with the case of Brown

The purpose if this movement was to gain equality for
Black Americans. The activists of the Civil Rights Movement were protesting for things like the
integration of schools and other public places, and equal rights under the law. Martin Luther King
was striving for his people to be seen and treated as equals to their white counterparts. The protest
would mostly consist of sit ins, marching, and boycotting. The activists of this movement preached
non violence and peaceful protest. For example, during many sit ins the police would get involved.
Usually this meant violence, but not by the civil rights activists who were taught not to retaliate.
The protestors would take brutal beatings and do nothing in return (Small). On the other hand is
the Black Liberation movement, which was headed by the Black Panthers. This movement leaned
more towards black separation in order to form their own equal communities. The Panthers
believed that Black Americans would never be equals in a white world and therefore they must
form their own. Not only did the Black Liberation Movement believe in separation, they also
believed that aggression was needed to reach this goal. In the official Black Panther Party Platform

Toto did leave his town behind but, in the end, truly did miss out on the many friendships that
stemmed in his childhood. Life just isn t the same without those special people in our lives. On
a final note, Giuseppe Tornatore created this film to greatly influence the thought of community.
Our perception of self reliance greatly hinders our experience in life and opening the door to a
friendship is the beginning of unlimited possibilities. Also, at the same time, we must treasure
our family for they are the base of our accomplishments. With that we must also sacrifice for the
ones we love as it becomes meaningless if we don t. The centralized element that ties all these
ideas together is the relationship between Alfredo and Toto. In meeting Alfredo, Toto finds
himself and gathers the resources necessary to live his life to the fullest. Also, Alfredo has the
chance to live the life he always wanted through Toto and as such was able to push him out the
door, despite the sacrifices he had to make. He loved Toto enough to never see him again. That s
true companionship; to put the good of the other s before falling back on selfish desires. With that
said, the ultimate theme this movie produced can be summed up in one word:

What Sets The Successful Companies Apart From The...
PEWAUKEE SCHOOL DISTRICT (PSD). Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Recipient
2013 (Education Category) 1. What sets the successful companies apart from the unsuccessful
companies? Answer: Three main characteristics of the winner have succeeded as a successful
company they are: i. They mainly concentrate on value rather putting their thoughts on long term
goals, that means they always concentrate in reduction of the costs in a strategic context and with a
reasonable spotlight on their core. ii. They misuse opportunities one of a kind to the downturn,
which can mean anything from utilizing misfortune to increase new clients to squeezing forward
with advancement. iii. They act quickly, with a spryness that allows them to keep pace with, or
development of, speedy changes in the business environment. Successful companies always put
their eye on the growth of the organization and they will try to keep the customers as they don t
need to lose their valuable customers. So they will move on from their comfort zones and thrive
hard towards their growth in the competitive world. They always show their commitment towards
the innovation that helps in being a part of the successful company. (Berman, 2009). 2. Are the
successful companies more agile in the marketplace? Answer: Yes, successful companies are agile
in the markets because being agile is to making themselves adaptable, managing, and trying to keep

The Carrying Capacity Of A Tourist Resource
.
The carrying caapacity studies began during the 1930 s (O Reilly, 1986; Saveriades, 2000), they
were principally developed in the 1960 s in the national parks of the United States of America
(McCool and Lime, 2001; Manning et al., 2002).The carrying capacity concept is essentially a
decision making framework informed by the regular measurement of agreed indicators of quality.
The concept of carrying capacity was derived in the early 1960 s from range management and was
applied to tourism and hospitality management. It was concluded that carrying capacity is not just
one single notion but an amalgamation of four different carrying capacities which are namely
physical, Ecological psychological and Economical. Ecological carrying capacity relates to the
maximum use of a tourist resource without causing any harm to the environment. Social carrying
capacity relates to the reaction of the local people to the tourist development of the place, which
should never be negative, Psychological carrying capacity relates to the quality of visitors
satisfaction with a certain tourist destination, which is not to be decreased; Economic carrying
capacity relates to the level of acceptable dependence between the local economy and the level of
the tourist development of a place, which should never become too heavy
The carrying capacity of any tourist destination, whether it be an historic building, a beach or a
dive site, is not a single figure that can be calculated and fixed. It is a

errors, or missing requirements causing hindrance to systems functionality .
As mentioned above, software testing is performed to identify software failures and get it corrected.
Testing cannot establish that a product functions properly under all conditions but can only
establish that it does not function properly under specific conditions . This includes examining the
code under various environments and scrutinizes the functionality of the code. Testing team is
generally separate team from the development team. The result derived after software testing is
done will be used for rectifying the process by which a software is developed.
An effective testing team includes technical and domain expertise. The testing team must be

Why Is Austria-Hungary Insatible
Insatiable is defined as impossible to satisfy and is used by the doorkeeper towards the man in
response to a question. It demonstrates annoyance towards the man for asking so many
questions while waiting for the doorkeeper to let him to the Law. It gives a human quality to the
seemingly immortal, ageless doorkeeper; for the first time in the story, we see him show
emotion towards the doorkeeper, even if that emotion is just slight annoyance. This also adds a
bit of humor to Kafka s story, as the doorkeeper calls the man insatiable despite owning all of his
possessions, including the flea infested fur coat that he now wears. The word insatiable adds a
layer of irony to the passage the doorkeeper calls the man insatiable despite owning... Show more

It is safe to say that the personification of the Law being an abstract idea rather than a right and the
doorkeeper blocking access to something that is often considered as such in other societies is meant
as criticism towards the Austrian government. In order to understand the context that Before the
Law was written, one must first understand why Austria Hungary failed. In 1915, the year Before
the Law was written, Austria was known as the Austrian Empire and was part of a constitutional
union between the Kingdom of Hungary, therefore being known as Austria Hungary. At this time,
the Austrian Empire was in the midst of dissolution. It collapsed in 1918. There were three parts to
this rule: the monarchy, the Austrian government, and the Hungarian government. The Austrian
and Hungarian governments fell under separate parliaments, which had their own prime minister.
When these parliaments were linked, the rule fell under the Emperor King. Neither half could have
views contrary to the monarch. The monarchy could also veto any legislation, dissolve assemblies,
and call new parliamentary elections in both Austria and Hungary. In Austria, the monarch s power
was even greater the Emperor King could remove cabinet members and even the Prime

U.S. and Russian Relations After the Defeat of the USSR...
US and Russia relations after the defeat of the USSR:
The end of Cold War brought new challenges to Russian life, economy and politics. Actually, the
post Cold War period opened the new opportunities for
Russia. Democracy made its first steps in the country. After seventy years of communism Russian
people finally got a chance to live how the want, to say what they want and to do what they want.
People got a chance to choose their own leader, to vote for the Congress members. And it was very
confusing for the country. Russia needed somebody to come out and help in this critical situation.
Probably, the first country to do that was the United States. Russians

Each year Americans were increasing the sales of their own products on the Russian market. As I
said earlier, Russia devoted itself to the new type of the economy; with private sector businesses.
But what they could do with all those weapons produced during the Soviet era? And the way out
was found. Russia became the biggest exporter of military ammunition on the world market. The
exports of oil also put Russia on the leading positions in the world. Everything was going just fine.
quot;Russia was moving from pure stabilization to the resumption of economic
Shkolnikov 3 growth quot; (Pickering 103).
The only one thing that was bothering both countries, especially Russia, was the growth of Russian
mafia. In the middle 90 s the level of corruption in the Russian government was very high. Mafia
controlled everything; starting from stores, which pay some percent of their income every month,
and ending with police, which was completely under control of the mafia. The power of mafia
really bothered American businessmen, who didn t want to pay them and didn t want to get shot by
mafia. And since they refused to pay, the number of American businessmen shot in Russia was
growing. But this doesn t really stops Americans from doing business in Russia.
The other problem that Americans were concerned about is nuclear potential of Russia. During the
leadership of the communism the USSR produced huge number of nuclear

Abstract
This research paper will describe the demography, labor force and the business cycle of Mexico.
Mexico is a federal republic, and it consists of 31 states and the Federal District. The Constitution
established separation of powers. The country itself has a perimeter of 761,602 square miles.
Mexico underwent an increase in purchasing power living standards, as well as reforms in energy

The energy reforms will restore an industry that has had a deficiency in technology for quite
some times now. US oil companies will lend their resources that the Pemex currently doesn t
have. This is a good opportunity to help boost Mexican oil production, which has been falling
for years. We need resources, technology and knowledge. Therefore, it is important to work with
those who do have (PeГ±a Nieto). Mexico has been a top crude oil supplier to the US. However,
its petroleum production has declined in the last decade. The reform opened Mexico s oil and
natural gas sector to international companies that could potentially help Mexico reverse the
shortage/lag in the production. Besides US, Mexico has other trading partners like China, Japan,
South Korea and Germany (Clare Ribando Seelke). Ultimately, these reforms could create
investment opportunities for US companies, and it can expand the US and Mexican energy

Cradle Cap Essay
1.One potential and very likely cause of the children s hair loss is undergoing chemotherapy.
Chemotherapy targets rapidly growing cells throughout the body in order to kill the growing
cancer cells. One of the other rapidly growing cells that chemotherapy attacks are those in the
hair roots, which explains the hair loss. (Mayoclinic.org) 2.The condition that the baby has is
called cradle cap or in medical terms infantile seborrheic dermatitis . The cause of cradle cap is
unknown but it is relatively harmless to the infant. Some of the potential causes could be that
during the end of pregnancy, babies are given hormones from their mother s that could cause the
seborrheic glands to be overstimulated and more oil is produced from the baby s scalp.

Vlad the Impaler or Count Dracula suffered from porphyria. Porphyria is a disease that can cause
many different things. The disease itself stems from mutations in genes. There are two distinct
types of porphyria; acute which affects the nervous system and cutaneous which affects the skin. I
believe that Vlad suffered from both types of porphyria, which is possible and common, because
he displayed symptoms of both. A lot of his rampages could have very likely been the cause of
some of the mental changes that are seen in acute porphyria and he was also known to have
sensitivity to sunlight, similar to that seen in cutaneous porphyria.

do not know is that their mode of transportation can be quite more efficient than yours.
Skateboarding requires skill, and incorporates the laws of physics while getting exercise and
reducing air pollutants. Since 2000 when skateboards became legal on city streets, urban places
such as Portland have developed pathways specifically for skaters. Skateboarding has become the
convenient trend to get to venues that are too close to drive, yet too far away to walk. Now that
skateboarders are allowed on city streets, more and more people are investing in skateboards,

Fahrenheit 451 Quotes Fire
It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and
changed (Bradbury 3). Towards the beginning of the novel it is noticeable that fire is praised by
the protagonist and those who choose to conform to society s rules. In this quote in particular,
fire is being used as a tool against literature. The books are being demolished. However, fire is
used with intentions to be positive. Almost in a way that the fire is doing society a favor by
getting rid of the vast knowledge in the books. From what is to come, this concept is only half of
the value of fire. As the novel unravels it is evident that it could be both good and bad. 2. One

Previous to this quote the general view consisted of destruction and violence. However, now it
is being perpetuated as a growing flower. One that is sprouting and demonstrating its inner
beauty. 8. You must remember, burn them or they ll burn you, he thought. Right now it is as
simple as that (Bradbury 123). This excerpt demonstrates Montag s mindset of every man for
themselves . He knows those of law enforcement are after him as he had fled the city as a wanted
criminal. Fire is his new tool for survival, without it he is left hopeless. He knows his enemies are
after him and he must use fire before they force it upon him. This excerpt does not explain a
specific topic and it is rather broad but it reveals his loneliness due to his actions to explore the
world of literature. 9. And what lights the sun? Its own fire. And the sun goes on, day after day,
burning and burning. The sun and time. The sun and time burning. Burning...and a short time of
floating in the river he knew why he must never burn again (Bradbury

Comparing Jackson Pollock And Chuck Close
This essay will compare and contrast the work of Jackson Pollock and Chuck Close, specifically
the Abstract Expressionist Number 1A of 1948 and the photorealist Self Portrait of 1991. I will
explore the similarities in the process of these two artists, despite their end result appearing to be
poles apart. Both artists are and were as obsessed with the process of making art as much as with
the outcome. Close and Pollock both employed highly inventive techniques and cultivated a
signature style that is instantly recognizable. Number 1A is an early realization of Pollock s
distinctive approach to dripping paint directly onto the canvas. This technique quickly became a
statement on the aesthetic and psychological power of large scale abstract painting. At five feet and
eight inches by eight feet and 8 inches it is a massive piece that s... Show more content on

The energy of the painting is overwhelming. It is an intricate web of oil colors with black
enamel. The piece is mainly comprised of black and white, but as one tries to look into the
painting subtle red pink and light blue can be found. The many layers of overlapping webs of
black and white seem to be a sort of veil for whatever lies underneath. Making it challenging to
interpret and look into the piece. No place for the eye to settle and rest. There are no figures
hidden within the drips. No hint of a representational image. At first there is a sense or reckless
abandon and a wild application of paint. After closer examining it is clear Pollock s strokes are
controlled, swift, assured, almost mechanical. You can trace the movements of his arm as the drips
of paint fell from sticks and paint brushes. Ranging from puddles where paint gathered and then

Lily as the Goddess Diana in The House of Mirth
One of the tragedies in The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton is that Lily Bart is unable to marry
Laurence Selden and thereby secure a safe position in society. Their relationship fluctuates from
casual intimacy to outright love depending on how and where Selden perceives Lily. Selden sees a
beautious quality in Lily Bart that is not present in any of the other women in the novel. This
mysterious beauty that is so often alluded to, in addition to her attraction for the other men, is best
understood when Lily is conceived of as the goddess Diana. As Diana, Lily Bart hunts for the
perfect husband but cannot marry, remains separate from the dinginess of society, and finally is...

Even at the very beginning of the novel, we notice that Lily chooses Selden s street because it is
the only street that has trees on it, some one has had the humanity to plant a few trees over there.
Let us go into the shade (8). The most intimate conversation between them will occur while
sitting in a beech grove after having walked through the woods. It is therefore safe to say that
when Lily is in the woods her true nature emerges, the nature that Selden considers to be real and
that he falls in love with. This explains why, during the theatrical presentation at the Wellington
Brys party, Selden is so deeply affected by the portrait of Lily. She emerges wearing a white
dress as part of a Reynold s painting, Mrs. Lloyd , but captivates the audience with her
naturalness: Her pale draperies and the background of foliage against which she stood served
only to relieve the long dryad like curves that swept upward from her poised foot to her lifted
arm (142). Again we see a direct comparison with Diana. Selden is so taken in by this scene that
he completely agrees with Gerty Farish when she says, It makes her look like the real Lily the
Lily I know (142). His love for Lily is strengthened by the fact that he and Gerty are the only two
people who know what Lily really is like. Selden watches the other men judging Lily, and shares a
his thoughts with the reader, making the beautiful

The Reasons Of The Cuba Embargo Against Cuba
Cuba embargo has failed. During the last 50 years, the United States government has maintained
the trade embargo against Cuba. The Cuba embargo was put in place as executive order by
Kennedy in 1962 because Fidel Castro confiscated many America businesses in Cuba. The
Embargo did not get the result for it was indented. Furthermore, the embargo has been failed policy
and it should be lifted immediately for three strong reasons. First, the embargo helps Castro to stay
the power. Second it is bad for American economy. Finally it is political incorrect.
The first reason to lift the America embargo against Cuba is because the embargo helps Fidel Castro
to preserve the power. According to Griswold (2005) the embargo actually enhances Castro s

the embargo issue The United States is great loser because every year many countries condemn the
embargo .However, The US government persists in to sustain the embargo, so the US engage a
political conflict with many friendly countries as Canada, France, Spain or Great British. Not only
in foreign politic the embargo affect to The US Government but also in domestic politics.
According to Brown (2008) in a dramatic shift, a new poll shows most Cuban Americans in Florida
favor lifting the U.S. trade embargo against Cuba. The new generations the Cuban exiles have

same as Spain with Franco or South Africa with The apartheid. Because, The Cuban America
community has very strong political influence, so The United States government will have many
political benefits when the embargo will be lifted. In conclusion, the US government will have

  • 2. Proposed Solutions for Problems with the Federal... The Federal Government owns nearly 30 percent of the United States land mass almost 650 million acres of land (Paul, 2012). National parks, National Forests, and National Wildlife Refuges comprise the federally owned and managed public areas. These areas are managed by three main entities: The National Park Service (NPS), The Bureau of Land Management(BLM), and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) (Edwards, 2012). The primary goal of these three agencies is to avoid the tragedy of the commons by preserving the natural resources on these lands, while still exhibiting economic growth based on them. Although, the Cato Institute study conducted in 2009 revealed shortcomings in the current managed plan. It showed overgrazed BLM lands,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The federal government in 1976 Congress passed an Act requiring BLM to maximize economic recovery of federal coal sources in Powder River Basin, for US use (could last nearly a century), but in recent years the government is considering exporting to Asia (decreasing the coal supply to as little as 25 years). The Basin accounts for 14 percent of the US yearly carbon emissions (Tuholske, 2014). Environmentalists have been pleading with the government for decades, including the Obama administration, to consider the environmental impact of extensive mining practices, but have been ignored thus far. Privatizing the land may give the area some relief, because the results of the owners actions will weigh directly on them. It may keep the resources in the US and the divergence from coal growing as disapproval rates soar. Also, a large portion of the remaining coal lies under already privately owned land, so there is not really a compelling argument as to why the rest of the land should not be released (Edwards, 2012). Another option for privatization would be to sell refuges or parks to conservation land trusts. A few land trusts include the Nature Conservancy and Ducks Unlimited. Private land trusts have tax exempts and benefit from a large nation wide group of volunteers. Land trusts are also more likely to charge efficient fees for land uses, instead of artificially low rates that the government charges. However, land trusts do ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Starbucks Global Quest Starbucks Financial analysis 2005 Douglas Lilly Strategic Management and Business Policy Professor Turk April 11, 2012 Over the past twenty five years, Starbucks has been leading the coffee revolution and turned a dying industry upside down by mainstreaming their stores and creating a public fascination. From the beginning of Starbucks stores through 2006, they have opened stores all over the U.S. and will be taking it overseas. Starbucks is leading the coffee revolution and has expanded their reach all over the world. With this much growth, it is easy for the company to lose their edge by forgetting the reasons they have become so large from the beginning. In this analysis, I am going to go over an economic assessment, marketing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everywhere you look you are bombarded with cups, coasters, spoons and anything else related to coffee. The customer service is dropping and this is ultimately bringing down their profits and is not due to the availability of growth. Starbucks is still only supplying less than 5 percent of the coffee market. With this low of a number there is still much more growth that can take place within the industry. This number allows for many more stores to be added to their list of future prospects. Weber states that competitiveness is related to company effectiveness, which is determined by whether the company satisfies the needs of stakeholders (groups affected by business practices). Important stakeholders include stockholders, who want a return on their investment; customers, who want a high quality product or service; and employees, who desire interesting work and reasonable compensation for their services. The community, which wants the company to contribute to activities and projects and minimize pollution of the environment, is also an important stakeholder. Companies that do not meet stakeholders needs are unlikely to have a competitive advantage over other firms in their industry. The economy is still moving ahead strong and the possibility of their becoming a recession are starting to become a bit more possible. • 5. Sexual Gigi Hadid Ad merely an accessory to the vehicle than a separate entity. Whereas a postfeminism argument can be that the half naked model drove the luxury car around, seeing as how she is holding a helmet. That she was doing stunts and or reckless driving around to showcase the car and decided it would attract more publicity to be in what appears to be a swimsuit. The simple fact alone could be that the women is a power body in society and, as previously stated chose to be dressed the way she is doing tasks with the luxury vehicle. Another sense of the meaning could be the intersectionality approach that is yet again, another cis white femalethat is presumably another famous face in the media is a powerhouse in society. The arian hair and eyes are another societal love or so to speak being that blonde hair and porcelain (presumably photoshopped) skin are a major influence. Especially in the most recent years with the addition of photoshop in advertisements and media. I have always been a little aware of the secual inuendos in media but this unit and project as a whole have brought it to a new light. • 6. Advantages And Disadvantages Of HDPE Plastic and HDPE. HDPE plastic is manufactured from petroleum and is considerably to be a lot stronger than LDPE plastic. HDPE plastic can also be welded and these plastics are often found in larger plastic items, because of its great strength and durability. One of the first items that HDPE was used to make was the hula hoop. HDPE plastic can be found in tables and chairs, storage sheds, snowboard rails and boxes. Thicker pieces of HDPE plastic are used for plumbing, automotive fittings and storage containers. HDPE plastic can also be recycled but, like LDPE plastic it will also lose some of its quality the second time it is used. • 7. Deductive Approach Paper The inductive approach to research refers to a strategy where the researcher starts the study gathering all the data relevant to the topic being studied. When they have collected all the necessary information, the researcher conducts an in depth review of the data with the aim of developing a deep understanding of the concept being studied. The researcher explores the data making observations on crucial points and establishing all the significant patterns crucial to determining the outcomes. Then, the researcher develops a theory that helps him to explain the reasons for the development of the observed patterns. Therefore, the technique involves the shift from the specifics to a general observation that can be applied in the overall case. After the analysis of the data, the researcher explores the existing theories on the topic and positions the newly developed theory within the existing body of knowledge (Creswell, 2003). Hunting And Feasting In order to protect vital food sources, past heritages, traditions, and cultural values for future generations, the government should not ban the practice of hunting wild animals. Author Jacqueline Thursby argues, in her article Hunting and Feasting in Utah and Idaho that this region is rugged country; it is no easy task, even today, to make a living there, and wild game continues to serve as a mainstay for some families (103). Most urban families take for granted the accessibility of the supermarket; a convenience that is hardly used for these communities in Utah and Idaho, mostly thriving off of what the earth provides for them. I didn t expect it, but the fact the catloved me started to annoy and disgust me. Slowly this feeling of disgust turned to hatred. I avoided the cat, and the only thing that kept me from hurting it was shame. Shame from what I had done to Pluto. But slowly, very slowly I began despise it. Looking At Women By Scott Russell Sanders Reading Response to Looking at Women written by Scott Russell Sanders is an article about Sanders This article had me cracking up, I have a teenage son and I often find myself saying things to him like sanders friends mother said to them. I find myself saying to my mother what, were those clothes painted on her ? and all the boy s stair at this young lady, they are drooling at the mouth, like a dog does to a bone. • 12. What Is George Berkeley s Argument Against The View Of... George Berkeley is a philosopher against the views of materialism. He presents his argument against materialism using dialogues between two characters. The first character is Philonous, who is meant to represent George Berkeley and his viewpoints that humans see nothing more than ideas. The second character is named Hylas. Hylas is meant to represent the views of a materialist. A materialist believes everything has a foundation in matter, and therefore humans see objects as they are. In the first dialogue between Philonous and Hylas, they discuss their understanding of the senses as related to matter. More specifically, they are in a debate about whether the senses are a necessary part of matter. Hylas believes matter is a substance that exists without someone needing to perceive it. Philonous believes matter cannot exist without someone having some mental understanding of it, and in the event that no physical being is present to perceive... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their discussion, Philonous states that an object cannot be two colors at once and therefore the color seen is based the viewer s perception. Hylas replies by stating that under ideal conditions the object will be seen as one color, because that is the object s true color. Hylas presents his objection to Philonous point that an object cannot be two things at once by getting to the root of what causes beings to see color. Hylas argues that light is a material that interacts with the mind to give a perception of some color. More clearly, the mind can only perceive objects who possess qualities that can be understood through the senses. Hylas is arguing that matter in itself has qualities that can be seen in different ways depending on the person, however even if people have conflicting perceptions, the object will always possess its quality. For example, in the case of the chair being seen as white or yellow depending on the person, under a microscope the chair will always be one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Essay On Culture Clash Effects of Education through Culture Clash My skin should not define me... but it does. My proficiency should not determine my intelligence but it does. Judith Cofer once said, The way our teachers and classmates looked at us that day in school was just a taste of the culture clash that awaited us in the real world. Not only does culture clash affect people on a personal level but the effects of education can be affected on an academic and personal level. Culture clash causes a chain of events to occur such as racism and discrimination based on skin color and proficiency. This discrimination affects people s academics, education, and overall knowledge which causes financial disadvantages and lifestyle struggles. Education and Lifestyle knowledge has become essential to success not just to foreigners but everyone. School is not necessary but it is possible to learn things every day.. Whether it was caused by an action resorting to learning something or reading on any topic you desire. A variety of obstacles can occur from preventing you to thrive intellectually. Racism is an issue that has been going on for centuries which often leads to segregation and discrimination. People get judged by their skin color, overall knowledge, and prowess (proficiency). Segregation based on Racism causes people from wanting to exceed in life, often making you feel unfit in society. The reasons why the 1981 attempt at reforming Social Security under the Reagan administration failed, as detailed in Chapter 8 of Martha Derthick and Steven M Teles The Reagan Presidency: Pragmatic Conservatism and its Legacies, boils down to the following factors: it did not have a clear goal in mind about Social Securityreform (Derthick, Teles 187), it had a poor working relationship with Congress on the issue (Derthick, Teles 185), and leadership, on part of the president, was lacking (Derthick, Teles 192). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Those who have paid into the system expect to get their money back when they retire, which makes cutting benefits politically hazardous and explains, in part, why the Reagan Administration s attempt at reforming Social Security failed. Social Security was facing insolvency if steps were not taken to resolve the gap between benefits going out and tax receipts being collected (Derthick, Teles 183). This prompted many actors in the political sphere to take part in the reform effort. The most influential actors in this process were Office of Management and Budget director David Stockman, Speaker of the House Tip O Neill, President Reagan, Congress, and the Department of Health and Human Services. As a political actor, David Stockman was not too interested in the possible political repercussions of Social Security reform. Instead, he was mainly focused on the budget cutting aspect of reform, irrespective of Congress reaction. Stockman was the main proponent of the administration s Social Security reform proposal sent to Congress that had deep and immediate cuts in benefits for early retirees (Derthick, Teles, 184). When Congress saw this proposal, they quickly disowned it (Derthick, Teles, 184). Speaker of the House Tip O Neill used this reform proposal and its ensuing rebuff from Congress to his political advantage; as a result, Democrats would forever portray ... It s downfall can be attributed to the introduction of the drug, opium, from the west. It s introduction inspired two wars, namely The Opium wars of the 19th century. In the 18th century, the country was flourishing, while it had control of international trade. By the 19th century, China had lost control of trade and was struggling with mass amounts of poverty and addiction. Many assume that because of the Qing Dynasty 1644 1912, China had no outside contact with the world. However, this is false. Since the 16th century the imperial court had been receiving European diplomatic and religious missions. From 1760 Canton or what is called now Guangzho, a city north easy of Hong Kong, had the monopoly on foreign trade within China. During this time, China had many cultural and diplomatic procedures involving foreign trade. Foreigners interacted with Cohongs, licensed chinese merchants. More and more Europeans began to get involved with trade in China and the city of Canton flourished with international trade. China had many exotic and high quality products to sell to Europeans. Also treatment can be classified as adjuvant or neoadjuvant therapy. The adjuvant therapy consist of the systemic therapy. The neoadjuvant therapy is when chemotherapy or radiation is given to in order to shrink the the tumor before the surgery, so the surgery will be less extensive. In the event of surgery the option of breast conserving surgery or a mastectomy. A mastectomy is when one or both breast are surgically removed. Either partially or completely the whole breast is removed. There are three types of mastectomy which include simple mastectomy, skin sparing mastectomy and radical mastectomy. The difference between the three is how much is left after the surgery, for example the simple mastectomy removes the whole breast including the nipple. While the skin sparing mastectomy will leave majority of the skin for reconstruction surgery can take place. Lastly the radical mastectomy is when the the whole breast and axillary lymph nodes plus the chest wall muscle is removed. Breast conserving surgery is used for women in stage one and stage two. I will show both pros and cons for each topic, as well as give you my personal brief on which one I support. There are two types of plea bargains : The first one is a charge bargain. When the prosecutor allows a defendant to quot;plead guilty to a lesser charge , or to only some of the charges that have been filed against him. For example, a defendant charged with burglary may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to quot;attempted burglary quot;. A defendant charged with Drunk Driving and Driving with License Suspended may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty to just the drunk driving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I do not agree that we should offer someone a sentence bargain. If the individual committed the crime then he/she should have to do the time. So, when Justice Stewart wrote in Blackledge v. Allison that plea bargaining can benefit all concerned , I think that is only partly correct. Sure it benefits defendants, prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges, but what about the victims or their families. I like what District Attorney Gibbons was trying to do, if it was all or none with no exceptions. The only time that I feel that plea bargains should not be used is in any murder or rape charge. The second thing we must look at is mandatory sentencing. I agree that we should have mandatory sentencing. You can read different studies that it does not work and it takes power away from judges. Sometimes trial rates and sentencing delays occur because of mandatory sentencing. Just think of how many repeat offenders we would have if it was not in place. I do think that it is somewhat of a deterrent for the small time users on the street. Research has shown that it is the low level street dealers, mules and addicts that this affects most, but if we didn t start with them then where? You must punish the user just as much as the dealer or kingpins . The dealers would not have any business if it was not for the users and if we can get to them easier than the main dealers, than I am all for mandatory sentencing. Why is 21 the magical age that makes a person intelligent and mature enough to consume alcohol? Sure, some adults abuse alcohol and some teenagers would be perfectly able to drink responsibly, but why not 18 or 35 or 40? This seemingly random number, 21, is associated with adulthood, as if the day a person turns 21 they know everything and are mature. The drinking age should be lowered to where one can learn to drink responsibly. First, the drinking age used to be 18 in some states. Many of today?s parents were legally allowed to drink at 18. Thirdly, since the law was passed in 1987, which raised the legal age from 18 to 21, there has been a decrease in car crashes but at the same time there has been an increase in other problems related to heavy, irresponsible drinking. This movement, the law that was passed, that swept all 50 states, may actually have made the bingeing worse. Tidal Power Engineering Design for Sustainability TIDAL WAVE ENERGY Introduction Tidal power is a form of energy which derives directly from the relative motions of the Earth/Moon system, and to a lesser extent from the Earth/Sol system. Tidal energy is gained from the exchange of large bodies of water. Changes in water levels, and associated tidal currents, are due to the gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon. This makes Tidal Power completely predictable; furthermore, because it is created by relative motion of the special bodies, it is in exhaustible. I am constantly called Nigger and Nigga every day of my life. This directly demonstrates that blacks are not considered worthy enough to be addressed by their name, but rather addressed in derogatory names. People do not understand the power of these two words and they use it very loosely. Now a days whites feel it is ok to use the transformed version of nigger, because they took out the er and added an a. But is there really a difference? No, there is not, whites and blacks have taken a horrific word that has a historically negative connotation and changed the meaning. I have been called this word everywhere I go. Toto did leave his town behind but, in the end, truly did miss out on the many friendships that stemmed in his childhood. Life just isn t the same without those special people in our lives. On a final note, Giuseppe Tornatore created this film to greatly influence the thought of community. Our perception of self reliance greatly hinders our experience in life and opening the door to a friendship is the beginning of unlimited possibilities. Also, at the same time, we must treasure our family for they are the base of our accomplishments. With that we must also sacrifice for the ones we love as it becomes meaningless if we don t. The centralized element that ties all these ideas together is the relationship between Alfredo and Toto. In meeting Alfredo, Toto finds himself and gathers the resources necessary to live his life to the fullest. Also, Alfredo has the chance to live the life he always wanted through Toto and as such was able to push him out the door, despite the sacrifices he had to make. He loved Toto enough to never see him again. That s true companionship; to put the good of the other s before falling back on selfish desires.
