Love and Lust in Play-By-Play, Sex without Love, and...
Love and Lust in Play By Play, Sex without Love, and Junior Year Abroad
Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly
be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and
even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on
one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love to occur a relationship
has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the
stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the
beginning of a relationship. After a while, these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At first, one might see the work as condemning people who have sex without being in love; but after
further review, one can see how Olds really portrays these people. She describes them as being
...Beautiful as dancers,/ gliding over each other like ice skaters (Olds 838); also they are considered
very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The characters in the poem
are depicted as athletes, agile and ready to compete, much like how the narrator, who talks so highly
of them, wants to be. However, once again, only the emotion of lust is present in this piece, and there
is no confusion between love and lust.
So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem
Junior Year Abroad, the lead character reveals lust for a man in her homeland, an emotion that quickly
fades away after meeting someone during her stay in Paris. The poem begins with an introduction to
her situation and reveals that he will come to Paris at Christmas to be with her. The shelf life of my
promise expired (Rebecca 839), is how she refers to her lover s upcoming visit, explaining how
quickly her lust for him has gone away. This poem gives specific examples of how lust can be there
one minute, then fade the

The And Native American Populations
From a European stand point, altering the lives of the Native Americans was a perfectly justifiable
action. They were uncivilized, and thus must be welcoming of their attempts to convert them to a
more advanced manner of living. At the same time, however, they must have notions of owning land,
of claiming sections of the Earth as their own, of trade and association of certain objects with high
value. This, however, was a paradoxical viewpoint. The main problem that resulted from the
intermixing of European and Native American populations was a misunderstanding of what each
culture maintained as important within their lives. To the natives, mourning wars, gods who were part
of the Earth itself, sacrifices, and any other number of various traditions were natural to who they
were. The Europeans, in contrast, valued war as a means of gaining territory, not people; they often
were monotheistic, with odd customs all their own, such as self torture or confession. The differences
between the two cultures could have been overcome, perhaps, if there had been some attempt to
understand one another s values. However, as evidenced, Europeans did not attempt to understand
without an ultimate aspiration to change. One of the defining aspects that shaped Native American life
after exposure to the Europeans was the disease they brought along with them. In The Jesuit Relations,
as well as in other readings, the fathers explained this illness as a sort of cleansing designed by God.

Persuasive Essay On Gun Rights
The issue of gun rights has been a popular debate in the United States of America. The side opposing
the rights to own certain guns have been frantically trying to convince others to join them in the fight.
Like most advertisements, the ads concerning the issue of gun rights have to be provocative and eye
catching. The Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety in America society created an advertisement
around 2013 to persuade Americans to support the ban of assault weapons in America. The
advertisement got the point across about the danger of not banned assault weapons compared to a
relatively harmless banned children s book, but fell short with the lettering, resulting in the lack of
explanation for the ad. The image contains two elementary age girls sitting on the ground facing the
camera. These two girls are different races. The African American girl holds a copy of Little Riding
Hood in her hands facing the camera. The Caucasian girl is holding a massive assault gun that appears
to be almost as big as she is. These two girls are sitting cross legged on the ground in a typical
elementary school library. The library has an American flag tucked in the corner. The wording One
child is holding something that has been banned in America to protect them. is in white in the middle
on top of the image. Underneath the white wording lies Guess which one is in red. The sponsor s logo
is in the right corner. There is small, white print located at the very bottom of the ad. The print

The Dream Of A Detroit Man Named Berry Gordy
Every year, tens of thousands of people come to Detroit, Michigan with hopes of getting a glimpse of
Hitsville U.S.A. Since 1985, the recording studio that once produced and made the dreams of many
famous singers a reality has been a popular tourist attraction, known as Motown Museum. Motown
Museum is open five days a week to local and international visitors. Visitors are given a tour through
Studio A, where they can stand in the same room in which their favorite Motown artist stood.
Additionally, visitors also tour the newly renovated upper flat that Berry Gordy and his family lived in
during the early part of the company s years. This beautiful place that appears to be frozen in time and
conveniently located in the exact same spot where it all began, started from the dream of a Detroit
man named Berry Gordy.
During the 1950s African Americans were plagued by discrimination and injustice. For example,

postwar families, returning veterans, and people displaced by urban redevelopment and highway

available units discriminated against minorities by specifying the want for white tenants only .

Machiavell s Representation Of The Servant In Shakespeare
Shakespeare and Machiavelli are presenting servants and their masters in their plays. Servant s duties
are not presented, but by examining their servitude, it is apparent where the servants are reliable and
where it is acceptable to fire the servant. These differences are very apparent and give a clear
representation of how servants should behave and their relationships to their masters In the Sonnet 57 ,
the servant gives his or her undying love and devotion and is unquestionably obsessed with his or hers

Miracles and Christianity Essays
Miracles and Christianity
In society today, the word miracle is commonly used to describe unexpected and surprising events: it
was a miracle that I passed the exam, however, when it is used in a religious sense, it generally has the
extra meaning of being an act of god . In the Bible, one can find many examples of miracles, but the
central miraculous event is the claim that Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifixion, this was easier
to accept as the truth in the past, but now modern science and medical advances prove that dead
people do not rise again, they can be resuscitated at the point of near death, but do not come back to
life after hours of death. Therefore, can people believe in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Atheists have the same way of thinking except that instead of looking for what had not been explained
(to find a place for God) they look for what had been explained (to try and push out God). Professor
Charles Coulson was such a thinker:
When we come to the scientifically
unknown, our correct policy is not to
rejoice because we have found God; it
is to become better Scientists.
The most significant rebuff to belief in miracles came from David Hume. Hume dedicated much of his
work to the understanding of miracles, Hume believed, and showed that Miracles were, relatively a
logical impossibility. Hume also said that because miracles are scientifically impossible, then it is
impossible to believe anyone who claims to have witnessed such an extraordinary event, he then made
an additional four points.
1) In all History there are not a sufficient number of people who have witnessed a miracle who have
good sense, education and learning to confidently say that these so called miracles were not delusions
within themselves. In other words people who believe in miracles are superstitious not scientific.
2) People believe in Miracles because they want to believe in Miracles.
3) Belief in miracles results from ignorance about how the world actually works.
4) All Gods cannot be the true God therefore

Have you ever been to Myrtle Beach during jellyfish season? It is terrible. When you get within about
50 feet of the water you have to watch every step. Even with jellyfish everywhere, I still like the
beach. They rest of my family hated being stung, but I kept telling them, suck it up and spray vinegar
on it. The waves were perfect for surfing and skimming. Skimming is like surfing, but you run into the
water with a four to five feet long board then you jump on the board. When you get in the water and a
wave comes, you spin yourself around and head back to shore. It took me a day before I could do it,
but after that I was fine until I fell or got stung on the bottom of my foot.

When I fell, I fell on the same big scrape on my knee that had just scabbed over. The cut broke open
again and it took even more layers off of my knee. Blood started running down my leg, but I did not
notice, so I just kept skimming. When the salty, ocean water splashed on the open cut, I knew that it
was way worse than It had been before. I looked down to see how bad it was, and the whole front of
my leg was red. I ran up to my mom and she freaked out. What happened? Are you okay? You need to
go wash that off! I ll go get the lifeguard. I went up to the shower, where you wash the sand off your
feet, to wash off all of the blood. Then I went to the lifeguard to get a bandage. The lifeguard was
really nice, but he did not speak very good English. He was from Poland. My mom was sitting next to
me and my grandma was on the other side of my mom. My mom was leaning toward taking pictures
as usual. My grandma was trying to see him but my mom was in the way. Down in front woman! my
grandma whispered angrily at my mom. This was the closest my grandma had been to the lifeguard, so
she was really happy. After he cleaned my knee, I went back up to the hotel room. I could not shower
because my knee was so bad, so I had to use a hotel cup to get the seawater out of my hair. I put my

Threat Of Talkies
Threat of talkies
Up until the 1930 s all films had been silent. Theaters would hire piano players to give sound to the
audience, and life to the films. This would soon change starting with the growing popularity to use
soundtracks, instead of hired piano players, to accompany the film. Later leading to the use of full
sound throughout the picture. Chaplin, who had acquired fame and fortune from his work as a silent
film actor and director, was reluctant to make the move to full sound. Undoubtedly, he must have
wondered whether or not his film craft could survive the transition into the sound era. In his own
words, Smith (1984) noted, he realized [he] could never achieve the excellence of [his] silent pictures
[making sound films]. (p. 97). Leaving filmgoers to wonder whether Chaplin s style of comedy could
survive the change. As previously stated, films did transition from silent to full sound right away.
There was a gradual process that led up to Talkies . In 1925, Chaplin came out with The Gold Rush , a
completely silent film featuring Chaplin s trademark character the Tramp , as a lonely prospector
fighting against adversity while looking for love. The Gold Rush , became one of the highest grossing
films of the silent era and Chaplin felt that it was the best film that he had made to that point in his
career. A few years later, films such as Don Juan (1926), and The Jazz Singer (1927) were released to
the public, generating much enthusiasm due

Transcendentalism and Deep Ecology
Transcendentalism has been linked to the birth of deep ecology, given the emotion and spiritual
philosophy that connects the two movements. Both transcendentalism and deep ecology romanticize
the natural world, and critique the way industrialization, modernization, and urbanization encroach on
ecological and spiritual purity. The eco centric worldview and value system espoused by deep ecology
has its roots in transcendentalism (Hicks, n.d.). Both transcendentalists and deep ecologists disparage
the ways individuals, communities, and whole cultures present the human being as being entitled to
rape and plunder the earth.
However critical they were of human activity and stupidity, the transcendentalists were not
misanthropes. The transcendentalists advocated for a better world, one that discarded ineffective and
corrupt forms of government in favor of a more just and egalitarian society. All were abolitionists, in
an era where slavery and sexism were both normative. Emerson advocated material and spiritual self
reliance over philanthropy as a means of self empowerment. He also criticized traditional types of
philanthropy as having a certain air of quackery, (Emerson, 1842). Philanthropy is often used as an
excuse to avoid doing the real work of transforming the self and the society, according to Emerson.
Thoreau promoted political activism in a more direct way than Emerson. In Civil Disobedience,
Thoreau advocated various forms of civil disobedience as a means of

The Era Of The Middle Class
The Jacksonian Period, or the era of the common man, greatly satisfied its name. Even though
President Jackson was not a common man himself, he was a great supporter of the middle class. He
dramatically altered the country s banking system, by replacing wealthy elites with middle class white
men. Even after his presidency, a new political party, the Whigs, continued to enact his ideas and
political reforms to benefit the middle class. Andrew Jackson was a War Hero, who was raised in
western America. He didn t go to school, and have get an education like his past presidents. However,
having his military background, he was well informed on political ideals, and had his own opinion on
how this nation should be ran. Jackson was a well off farmer and even owned many slaves. Like most
of the people living in his time, he didn t believe slaves were considered equal with white men. So the
common man era referred only to white men. Prior to the Jacksonian era, America was socially
divided into the West and the East, so Andrew Jackson s presidential inauguration was a symbol of the
west and the east coming together as one nation. The celebration was so grand, it nearly destroyed the
White house. Carpets were dirty, glassware was destroyed, and mass chaos was evident. It was bitterly
acknowledged by Jackson s enemies that this was the start of the self proclaimed Reign of the King
Mob. Jackson s first priority was to get rid of the current office holders in the federal

Making An Outdoor Art Installation
When I thought about making an outdoor art installation, images of towering sculptures appeared in
my head. In the corner of one, I imagined a spider web. The web was truly intricate, delicate, and
breathtaking. Yet I desperately pushed the image away. Unable to shake the image, I was terrified that
the tiny artist who made that web would suddenly appear in my mind. When I realized how irrational
it was to fear an imaginary spider, I knew I had to make an installation of a spider web to face my
crippling arachnophobia. I reminded myself of a famous saying from Eleanor Roosevelt: You gain
strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the
face... you must do the thing which you think you cannot do. I wanted that confidence, and I needed to
believe I had enough strength and courage to create this piece.
As an artist, my innate need to create is based on a need to express myself. According to Drozt,
visionary art refers to art made with an inner vision or an intense feeling that is expressed throughout
the work (2008). Visionary art accurately captures the drive and feelings I experience when I feel
conceptually inspired, although I do not consider myself an outsider to artmaking. My work is always
personal and I strive to be genuine to that experience. Because of this experience, I have added a layer
of intentionality in my selection of materials and contemplation of the art s environment to my method
of working. When I

Comparison Of Hamlet s Views On Life And Death
Hamlet s Views on Life and Death The famous soliloquy To be, or not to be Shakespeare s powerful
words clearly illustrate Hamlet is mentally unstable. He is uncertain about death. Hamlet is proved to

Shakespeare uses the colon he illustrates Hamlet is debating with himself on life and death. He

Defending Beef By Niman Summary
In Defence of livestock Although many researchers believe that our planet s environment and
ecosystems are facing many challenges due to livestock production, proponents of livestock
production believe that the reason why the our environmental condition has worsened is not that we
eat more meat but because we eat less of it. Niman argues that instead of decreasing production, we
should focus on producing meat that is more environmentally sound. She also argues that Feed
production with all its attendant problems of fossil fuel consumption, soil erosion, greenhouse gases,
and chemical pollution can be avoided altogether (Niman, 79). In Defending Beef , she explicitly
criticises the FAO s Livestock s Long Shadow and questions certain statements ... Show more content

There are many different practises and methods available for livestock production, and ultimately it is
the choices that farmers make that determines the production s level of sustainability. The practices of
industrial large scale operations like CAFOs result in both environmental damage as well as health
concerns for humans and animals. Depletion, pollution and contamination are the biggest obstacles we
face when trying to move toward a more sustainable planet. But when livestock is handled
responsibly, with consideration for the environment and potential consequences, it is indeed possible
to produce livestock that is beneficial for our planet. Organic and grass based farming systems such as
silvopastoral systems have been proven to increase biodiversity, reverse soil erosion and counteract
water depletion. By encouraging farmers to move towards more sustainable methods like these, we
can help curb today s more urgent issues regarding our environment. While there are disagreements
between researchers on how to do this, they all agree that we have to take some kind of action to save
our planet. Possible ways to achieve this include not consuming meat, or buying meat from local,
organic and grass based farmers to ensure the livestock was raised in a responsible way. If more
consumers demanded this type of meat,

Difference Between Eyewitness Testimony
Whether an individual is a witness for or against your case, there are signs that a person may not be
reliable. The following are a few things to look for.
A witness s statement does not agree with the evidence
This is not always obvious because a witness s statement can seem accurate except for a single
variance with the physical evidence. This can be important because of the case were to go to trial, a
simple discrepancy in the testimony could be exploited by the opposing attorney. Although it is
normal for eyewitness testimony not to be perfect, if there is a difference between the witness s
account and a particular piece of evidence, there is a chance that some or all of the testimony has been
derived from the statement of one of the parties in the lawsuit or criminal case.
There is a bias with the witness
If the witness is a friend or relative of one of the parities involved, there is an obvious bias that the
witness may have. This doesn t mean that the witness s statement is necessarily inaccurate, but
anytime there is a relationship between a witness and the party being sued or is suing, then the
statement may be questionable. As a private investigator, we can run a background check on someone

Whether a witness s testimony will still be valuable in court is up to an attorney, but in general, the
greater the change, the more unreliable the witness is. The key element is whether the witness was on
record with their first story. If their first statement was not recorded and is one that was verbal, the
second statement that was a recorded witness statement may carry more weight. This is why it is
important to have a witness statement documented, and have it done as early as possible while the
event is still fresh in a person s mind. A private investigator has skills and legal knowledge to record
an in person witness statement

Sea Level Training Essay
When it comes to gaining an advantage, athletes will do everything in their power to make sure that
they are able to outperform their competition. One currently legal method of accomplishing this is by
going to a high altitude location, which increases the amount of oxygen getting to the tissues. This
supposedly increases the amount of red blood cells in your body, and gives you an advantage if you
were to perform back at sea level. However, should this be considered a reliable training technique or
is it not worth the effort? Regardless of the elevation you are at on earth, the percentage of oxygen
(21%), carbon dioxide (.03%), and nitrogen (79%) remain the same. Though, as you increase your
elevation the pressure of the air decreases. This is because there is less pressure pushing down on the
air as you move up through the levels of the atmosphere. As a result, the partial pressures decrease. At
sea level the pressure of air is 760 mmHg, while at the peak of Mount Everest (extreme example) it is
about 230 mmHg, showing that oxygen will have a lower partial pressure as you increase in altitude.

This is because peripheral chemoreceptors are able to detect changes in arterial oxygen levels within
the blood. When levels become low enough, the receptors become excited and send the information to
an area of the central nervous system that is responsible for respiration rate and depth of breathing.
This is why most people hyperventilate when they increase their altitude, to try and make up for the
oxygen that their body is lacking. The pressure gradient is also affected at the tissues. Arterial blood
has a partial pressure of 100 mmHg normally, while the partial pressure in the tissues is about 40
mmHg. However, as you increase in altitude the arterial blood pressure decreases, causing the
pressure gradient to decrease and less oxygen to enter the

Binary Oppositions Vs. Evil
Have you ever tried to examine a piece of writing? Did you see a connection between characters,
plots, themes? One thing you might not have noticed is binary oppositions. Now all readers will see
some universal oppositions such as good vs. evil, but as Corey Martin said in his paper there are many
oppositions in literature, some are noticeable, some are not. Now why would a reader want to look for
binary oppositions in literature? Quite simply binary oppositions add some familiarity to the work, but
at the same time the reader has to analyze the work in order to understand it, which enhances
analytical skills present in them. Now does that mean that all good works of literature have to have
many binary oppositions for it to be fully developed? No, the author can have as few as one and the
piece of literature will still make sense and be developed. Readers may get confused between binary
oppositions and themes. A theme is the main idea the author is trying to get across in a story. Binary
oppositions help develop the theme, but they are not the theme themselves. For example let s use
Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The theme is simply young love. But Shakespeare used
oppositions such as love and hate, and violence and peace to build on his theme. In Euripides tragedy,
Medea, the main character Medea was taken away from her homeland and from her family and
brought to a strange world by her husband Jason. Jason used her to get the golden fleece, as this was

Examples Of Social Darwinism In The Jungle
In Sinclair s novel, the jungle, you get a closer look into the societal classes and the struggles that
immigrants face when they come to America. In this essay, I will be talking about all the things that
Jurgis as well as his family have overcome. Such as their downfalls as well as how they prospered and
managed to stay together through most of the novel. Social Darwinism helps you get a different
perspective of all the things going on in the societal classes.
When someone has no motivation they really have no want to succeed. Being an immigrant and
coming to the United States doesn t mean you re going to get rich at the instant. Even by working, you
won t get at the level of the upper class rich people. Dishonesty is shown a lot among immigrants.
Jurgis for example at the beginning of the novel had his family, his wife Ona, which made him the
happiest man alive. No matter how rough the situation was he wouldn t care because he had his wife.
Life put Jurgis through some pretty tough obstacles like the death of Ona and then shortly after the
death of his baby. The so called real estate agent offered them a deal on this supposed great house that
was cheap and exactly what they were looking for but little did Jurgis know that with that house came
many more little pricy things that the agent forgot to tell them. Since that point on every day living in
that house was hell. Everyone in that household worked and they barely made it through the month.

U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay
The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to the late 2000s
financial crisis, characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the
resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. After U.S. housing sales prices peaked in mid
2006 and began their steep decline, refinancing became more difficult. As adjustable rate mortgages
began to reset at higher interest rates, mortgage delinquencies soared. Securities backed with
mortgages, including subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value.
Global investors also drastically reduced purchases of mortgage backed debt and other securities as
part of a decline in the capacity and willingness of the private financial system to support lending.
Concerns about the soundness of U.S. credit and financial markets led to tightening credit around the
world and slowing economic growth in the U.S. and Europe.
The immediate cause or trigger of the crisis was the bursting of the United States housing bubble
which peaked in approximately 2005 2006. Caused by an increase in loan incentives such as easy
initial terms and a long term trend of rising housing prices had encouraged borrowers to assume
difficult mortgages in the belief they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms. Once
interest rates began to rise and housing prices started to drop moderately in 2006 in many parts of the
U.S., refinancing became more difficult. As

Rocky Blboa Persuasive Speech
Summary Despite having never seen this movie, I have seen this scene hundreds upon hundreds of
times. I listen to this speech before every game I play. This is an all around great pre game pump up
speech. The coach talks to his team before a big game. He is telling them that the difference between
winning and losing (living and dying) is just inches. In football, they may literally be fighting for
inches, but in reality, it s not about the inches. It s about the effort. Having both played and coached
sports, I appreciate the message the coach is sharing. Overall, I just really love this speech.
Credibility The speaker established his credibility by showing his character. The speaker (coach)

Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows Part 2
Summary I ve never seen Harry Potter so I m not entirely sure what happened to lead up to this speech
being given. A guy named Neville Longbottom is standing up to the bad guy without a nose. At first it
appeared that Harry Potter was dead, and Neville was talking about death and how great of a person
Harry was, then Harry woke up and a fight broke out.
Credibility I have no idea what type of person Neville Longbottom is, but based on the way he talked
about Harry Potter he seemed like a nice and sincere guy. I m pretty sure Harry Potter was well liked,
so it should have been pretty easy to get people to rally together to support something in Harrys honor.
I believe that Neville established his credibility by using his character.
Reasoning Neville uses reasoning from principle. He states that people die every day. Therefore,
Harry Potter s death should not be the end of the world. He uses this reasoning to try and convince the
audience that Harry s death will not stop

Flexibility Training Benefits
Flexibility is defined as your body s ability to move through a full range of motion. Flexibility training
is an integral part of any conditioning program. While athletes stand most to benefit from flexibility
stretching exercises, anyone seeking to keep their bodies flexible or those seeking to improve their
posture will also stand to gain from a flexibility training program. This is primarily due to the fact that
the stretching exercises serve to balance muscle groups that have been overused in any exercise or
physical activity or have become overused as a result of bad posture or bad work habits like slouching
while typing in front of the computer.
Flexibility training offers many immense benefits. It does not only make your joints more ... Show

This is because regular stretching exercises results in decreased resistance in tissue structures. This
results to a decrease in your chances of being injured since the limb is able to move further before it
gives in to any injury. Flexibility training exercises, especially dynamic stretches usually done before
any workout loosens muscles and addresses the problem of muscle tightness which has long been
associated with increased risk of muscle tears.
Another benefit that can be gained from a flexibility training program is reduced muscle soreness.
Stretching exercises, especially static stretches that are done after any workout regimen, significantly
reduces muscle soreness you experience post workout. Static stretches are performed by slowly and
gradually controlling muscle elongation for about 30 seconds for as far and long as you comfortably
can.
Another benefit of a flexibility training program is improved posture. Stretches aid in the realignment
of soft tissue structures to balance the muscles and improve how you carry your body. With constant
practice, proper posture becomes a natural part of movement and comes with no

Introduction
A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn reputation by trying to do hard
things well. Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com
Brands are the visual representation of a company, its culture, its people, products and vision. All
these put together embody and give life to the brand, assigning and defining certain traits and values
to be associated with it. Branding is the representation of those values as conveyed to the universe,
whether to its customers, stakeholders or the world at large.

the company, product/service, and the values it represent. E.g. The Michelin Man represents the extra
rubber on their tires, and the multi colored Apple logo represents creativity. [pic][pic] C) Words: The
name used can represent certain qualities related to the product or service it represents. E.g. Pizza Hut,
Ivory Soap, Head Shoulders shampoo, and so on.
All these elements come together to make a brand.
The brand has a number of facets, which help flesh out the brand and separate it from others. A) Brand
Identity: The individual elements that come together to separate a brand from all others are known as
the brand identity of a product. The visual elements such as color, size, verbal elements such as name

brand identity therefore is the noticeable elements of a brand which identify it to its target audience.

Aging Affects The Appetite And Food Intake
Abstract Aging affects the appetite and food intake of a person resulting in a gradual decreasing in the
body weight. Moreover, slower stomach emptying makes the elderly to experience increased fullness
or satiation all the time. The alteration of gut peptides, such as cholecystokinin, insulin, GLP 1 and
Peptide YY during aging modifies satiation and satiety. Moreover, the study collected data from seven
scholarly reviewed medical journals following well defined criteria: must use scholarly reviewed
journals written English and the journals had to align with the topic under discussion. It demonstrated
the differences in satiety and satiation related to age and their unique responses to gut hormones.
Moreover, out of the seven articles, four were controlled trials while three of them included cohort
studies. The keywords used during the study were aging, food intake, regulate, satiety and satiation.
Other studies used in the search demonstrated major strengths, such as exhibiting the differences in
satiety and satiation related to age and their unique responses to the gut hormones. They also showed
the likelihood for the manipulation of nutritional factors like the meal size, taste, and variety for
inhibiting weight gain or weight loss through compensatory alterations in energy ingestion. The major
limitation of the study included their inability to reflect the general population because the elderly
subjects represented successful aging, free of chronic diseases and

Pros And Cons Of The Canadian And American Banking System
Intro Throughout history the Canadian and American banking systems have always taken separate
approaches to the financial sector. There are many factors that influence the differences between the
banking systems, some of which including their banking regulations, customer base and the chosen
style of banking. All the factors presented have influenced the results of the banking sectors in both
countries. Both systems have pros and cons, however the argument presented will reflect and support
the benefits and success of the Canadian banking system and its ability to support the Canadian
economy throughout the country s history. Despite the close geographic coordinates, the two countries
have very little in common regarding their financial sectors. The American banking system flourishes
when the population has a high borrowing amount that unfortunately carries a larger risk for the
government. In comparison, the Canadian system is most prosperous when the population has a high
security level on their finances and the banks hold a substantial portion of liquid assets to assist with
any financial issues. Summary The differences between the American and Canadian banking systems
is not limited to their definition of success. Each countries system also contains several differences
within their banking sectors, and many of these differences have helped guide the individual countries
to where they stand in todays market. The American banks prides themselves on being resilient and

Humanitarian Intervention Research Paper
I. Introduction
In 2011, Operation Unified Protector performed air strikes over Libya, destabilizing the country and
enabling the murder of Libya s dictator of 42 years, Colonel Muammar al Gaddafi. The United
Nations Security Council justified the Libya Intervention for NATO allies on the grounds of an
imminent humanitarian crisis that was thought to occur at the direction of Gaddafi. Thus, the United
States, UNSC, and NATO allies are culpable for the humanitarian catastrophe in Libya and the killing
of Gaddafi, because of their misuse of Responsibility to Protect (R2P) for their Humanitarian
Intervention in 2011.
In this paper I will provide a brief history of relations between the U.S. and Libya since 1979 and give
an overview of the 2011 NATO led Humanitarian Intervention in Libya claimed to prevent an
anticipated humanitarian crisis. I will examine the stated motivations behind the NATO backed
Intervention that resulted in the regime change. I will explain President Barack Obama s motivations
to move forward with the intervention, as well as his current state of mind on the matter. In addition, I
will explain Secretary of State Hillary Clinton motives at the time of the intervention, the reasons as

Business Management Diversity Issues
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT DIVERSITY ISSUES Contemporary business managers must be
competent in all areas of diversity issues in order to comply with applicable federal laws, state laws,
and to insulate their business organizations from potential civil liability arising from lawsuits for
violations of those laws (Halbert Ingulli, 2008). Cultural diversity issues typically arise in connection
with the increasing demographic diversity of American society in general. Ethnic diversity issues also
typically arise as a function of societal diversity, but ethnicity is a particularly important element of
sensitivity to diversity in contemporary business because of the designation of minority races as
suspect classes in relation to the protections afforded by the Civil Rights Act of 1965 (Halbert Ingulli,
2008). Gender, while not as strictly protected by law as racial identity, is subject to the protections of
the laws of equality in many states and also is a potential source of civil liability in relation to
discrimination and harassment in the workplace (George Jones, 2008). The contemporary workplace
environment generally requires sensitivity toward and awareness of the sensibilities and expectations
of individuals from a wide range of different cultural backgrounds (Robbins Judge, 2009). Therefore,
virtually all modern business organizations maintain employee training programs that include cultural
diversity sensitivity training to ensure that their employees respect

Raising Cane s A Restaurant
Raising Cane s Restaurant
The food industry in Louisiana has been growing over the years and the Raising Cane s Restaurant has
been on the forefront in offering some of the best delicacies I have tasted in my life. Throughout my
life, I have had the pleasure of experiencing different restaurants and I can admit the experience has
not been disappointing at Raising Cane s Restaurant. For anyone looking to experience a different
taste of chicken, look no further than Raising Cane. Raising Cane mostly serves chicken fingers. In

Craig Silvey who was Todd s partner and currently the vice president of information technology and

Louisiana, which was the location of the first restaurant. Today, Raising Cane is found in over 250
locations in the U.S and other countries including Kuwait as of September in 2015.
I set out to visit the restaurant for lunch last Friday and the first thing I noticed was its theme color,
which is red. The restaurant s logo is made of a mixture of white, yellow and black colors on a red and

How to Handle Violence in Youth Sports
Everyone agrees that parent involvement is a good thing. But when the parent behaves
inappropriately, it creates a poor environment for the children to learn and enjoy themselves. Sideline
rage with parents behaving badly at youth sports events is such an epidemic, that 76% of respondents
from 60 high school athletic associations said increased spectator interference is causing many
officials to quit (Associated Press, 6/3/01). Parents are supposed to be role models, and the lessons
they teach will determine their values and actions in the future. These days violence in children s
sports is not limited to the playing field; overbearing parents are creating dangerous situations on the
field.
Involving your child in sports is important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At age ten, many kids have private coaching and attend specialized clinics in the off season. The
coach is usually someone with a background in sports, either a retired professional player or coach.
Practices are now scheduled for twice a week and attending a weekly clinic is strongly recommended,
with a strength conditioning workout schedule between practices. All of these changes mean more
involvement time for the parents. Parents are now spending up ten hours a week watching their
children compete with other children, and this pressure can sometimes be too much for the parent.
In 2002, Thomas Junta was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after he attacked Michael Costin,
who later died of his injuries. Mr. Costin was refereeing a pickup game of hockey. The fight was
witnessed by a dozen children including the children of both Mr. Junta and Mr. Costin (Butterfield,
2002). While this is by far one of the worst incidents in sports rage, there are other types of behavior
that can still harm our youth. Physical violence is often a rare occurrence; verbal abuse and
intimidation have been seen frequently. When a parents scream at their child after practice that he/she
did not run fast enough or hit hard enough, can be considered a form of verbal abuse. Also consider
when a parent of one child screams at the team for not performing well and not winning the game, this
combined with swearing can reduce a child to tears. Daniel Wann, PhD states that if a

They are successful invaders due to their high adaptability to novel environments (McClure et al 2015;

with females averaging 5.6 fetuses in Saskatchewan (Koen et al. 2018), though it is important to note
that this value is from a small sample size and was not determined to be statistically significant (Koen
et al. 2018). It is however the only estimation of wild pig reproductive rate available in Canada. High
birth rate plus a quick gestation period that allows pigs to potentially breed at least twice a year
(Bieber Ruf 2005), coupled with the fact that wild pigs have no natural predators in Canada,
population growth and expansion is inevitable. Pigs are known to be carriers and transmitters of a
number of diseases like swine brucellosis, pseudorabies, and Escherichia coli (Michel et al 2017). All
of which pose potential health risks for not only livestock and wildlife but humans as well. Second, it
is well established that wild pigs contribute to the billions of dollars in agricultural damage done by
invasive species in the United States each year (McClure et al 2015). While claims of reported crop
damage in Canada associated with wild pigs has been minimal to this point, the ever expanding

Start Pharmaceutical Development Company
Start Pharmaceutical development companies are an example of a service characterized by high fixed
costs and low marginalized costs. The fixed costs are very high because of the extremely high costs of
developing a new drug. To bring a new drug to market costs hundreds of millions of dollars and is
very risky. For a drug to be brought to market the Food and Drug Administration must approve of the
drug. Then after the drug is approved it can be sold. The research and development costs are spent
before any units of the drug are produced, so the companies are left with very high fixed costs. The
highly automated drug production facilities also contribute to the high fixed costs because building the
high tech factories is very expensive. However, after the factory is built the marginal costs are very
low in this industry because producing 1 more tablet or dose of the drug is very cheap because of the
small amount of materials cost. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the company has patent protection or a government market restriction such as orphan drug

Because the formula to manufacture the drug is no longer secret, other companies will produce

The Role Of Dysphasia In Parkinson s Disease
What is dysphasia? Dysphasia is defined as the difficulty of food moving from the mouth to the
stomach (Logemann, 1983); however, this definition can be expanded. According to Logemann
(1983), this definition has been expanded to include all of the motor, behavioral, and sensory acts that
are needed to prepare the body for the process of the swallow as well as cognitive abilities, and
physiological responses to the smell of the food or liquid. A disorder can occur to any of these
functions, so typically the process is broken down by the phases of the swallow. Such as, oral

In recent years statistics have shown that this occurs anywhere from one third for four fifths of
patients who have been diagnosed with Parkinson s disease. According to Rajaei et al. (2014), the
statistics are higher, saying that oropharyngeal dysphasia occurs in up to 80% of Parkinson s patients
but increases up to 95 100% of patients in the latter more progressed stages of the disease. This occurs
because of the motor loss in the patient s body from the lack of dopamine being produced in the brain
(Ellerston et al., 2016). According to (Argolo et al., 2013), rigidity and brandykinesia formed in the
oralpharyngeal muscles, lack of coordination between breathing and swallowing, and the loss or
reduction of sensation in the oral cavity and pharynx are all involved in the patients dysphasia.
Ellerston et al. (2016) reviewed studies done on Parkinson s patients diagnosed with dysphasia using
videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (MBS) study. According to Ellerston et al. (2016), these
studies revealed that the patients had impaired laryngeal movement, palatal elevation deficits, lack of
epiglottic movement, anterior hyoid bone movement, and vocal fold adduction deficits. The modified
barium swallowing studies also revealed that the patients with Parkinson s also showed prolonged
pharyngeal transit times (Ellerston et al., 2016). Because of these deficits in the musculature Ellerston
et al.(2016), reported that it would lead to vallecular pooling and residue, possible laryngeal
penetration, and possible aspiration which could lead to respiratory illnesses or aspiration pneumonia.

results of the bedside screening to the results of the MBS, almost 80% of the swallowing disorders

Burt s Bees i.e. look into its strengths, weaknesses, threat and opportunity vis à vis the competition
and the market scenario in 1997. Burt s Bees success was hard won through 18~ to 24 months of
pruning after the company s move from Guilford, Maine in 1994. Production was extremely labor
intensive in Maine due to the large supply of low paid unskilled labor, Burt s Bees had to automate
production in North Carolina, though, to minimize the cost of its highly paid skilled labor. Thus it is
important to understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The other players are investing huge amounts on expanding their distribution network and hence
expanding their customer base. Another internal threat is that Burt s Bees does not have the capability
to expand their manufacturing units and forward integrate them to their own retail outlets. This is not
only a huge risk but also a huge investment which if fails can take the company with it to the dust.
TWOS Analysis
Now, to analyze these facts and points in a better manner we should do a TOWS analysis. In this
analysis we try to see the Strength and weaknesses vis à vis the threats and opportunities in the
following manner:
Strength
Weakness
Opportunity
Match strengths to specific opportunities
You need to invest to overcome weakness or to compensate or negate
Weakness
Threat
These are strengths that can be used to reduce or avoid the consequences of a threat There may be
little that you can do to avoid the impact. Create or import
Strengths
This analysis can be done for Burt s Bees:
Strength
Weakness
Opportunity
The strength and opportunity lies in the all natural secret of Burt s Bees
The second thing to be mentioned here is the retail presence and the provision present for expansion in
this area
To tap the opportunity of leveraging on the all natural products, huge investment in terms of media
spends is required to position the product in the desired space in the

Senior Project Papers
Senior project paper
I chose my Senior Project on Animation. Animation for those who don t know is making drawings
come to life in film and screen. As an Animator, I will use computers, pencils and paper among other
beings, to create movies and TV shows .
I have chosen animation as my career because I have always loved cartoons and films such as Disney,
Pixar and Dreamworks. Some of my favorite films are Disney s The Lion King , Pixar s Toy Story and
DreamWorks Sherk . In my mind animation is more of an artform than a career
The skills you would need for this career are Time management, Artistic knowledge, and Artistic skill
and independence along with good computer skills and teamwork . These skills are necessary for the
job ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The health benefits of this career are good pay, long hours, and plenty of opportunities to work as well
as a flexible work schedule. Another benefit of being an animator is being able to work at home, for
example, if you work at home, you will have a sucnifetley lower chance of getting sick than if you
were, for instance, in an office setting the percentage of sick days will decrease
For my interviews I have asked 2 of the best of animation teachers in western P.A., ( in my opinion )
John Kelly and Jared Taylor ( from the Toonsuim and Edinboro University respectively). According to
both Kelly And Taylor you need about 3 to 4 years of schooling in either visual arts or animation.
Kelly was an animator for Disney and now is a teacher of the subject. As stated in a previous
paragraph the pay is around 30 to $63,000 in total. My second question I asked the two gentlemen, is
if there is any math involved in the job, the answer is no. I asked this question because having Spina
Bifida, my math skills are subpar to the rest of my peers .There may not be any math involved in my
job, but there is a timing which I l need to improve

Hybrid Body On Frame Sport Utility Vehicles
The second generation Armada has sailed into port.
Few manufacturers build full size, traditional body on frame sport utility vehicles these days. Count
Nissan among the few.
Among mainstream brands, the Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, and
the Ford Expedition are your choices. Of the five, the Armada is the newest name, but for several
years it was the oldest moniker in terms of product age.
That s all changed now as the 2017 Nissan Armada is out, the second generation of this big eight
passenger SUV.
Derived From the Nissan Patrol
The first generation model was built from 2004 to 2016 and was underpinned by the same platform
powering the Nissan Titan pickup truck. The Titan itself is all new for 2017, but ... Show more content

All New Endurance Engine
The all new Armada shares the same 5.6 liter, V8 gasoline engine found in the Titan and Titan XD.
Known as Endurance, the engine is the same size as the previous V8, but otherwise it, too, is new.
Nissan says the beefy V8 is outfitted with variable valve event lift (VVEL) technology for improved
response and performance. Further, Nissan enhanced throttle response by controlling the intake valve
and also employs direct injection gas technology.
Where the previous engine created 317 horsepower and 385 pound feet of torque, the latest engine
makes 390 horsepower and 401 pound feet of torque. Nissan rounds out the powertrain with a seven
speed automatic transmission.
Powerful, Expressive Exterior
Without getting lost in the details, Nissan combined elements from its other vehicles to develop the
new Armada s exterior. To begin, the grille offers a familiar look, one advanced by the popular
Pathfinder crossover. While the headlamp assembly is similar to the Titan s, it offers its own look. The
lower grille or air intake is unique, coming in wider and longer than the pickup truck line.
The truck s frontal presentation is muscular, with a sculpted hood not unlike the Titan s. So, what you
have here is a combination of existing and new Nissan elements to establish the Armada s face.
Front to back this SUV is burly. Nissan went easy on

Essay on Civil Liberties, Habeas Corpus
Civil Liberties, Habeas Corpus, and the War on Terror
Charlotte
Ashford University

POL 201
Instructor
Civil Liberties, Habeas Corpus, and the War on Terror have all played a role throughout history.
Throughout history, the motivation of man s self interest has concluded in the domination of those
with little or no power in the absence of the rule of law. The war on terror presents an unpredictable
challenge for the United States since terrorists are apprehended and deprived of due process. Habeas
corpus is considered to be one of the most fundamental guarantees of personal liberty that we
cherished as a country since the inception of our Constitution. However, debates have arisen regarding
the proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a feature of common law, the right of Habeas corpus reflects the age old contest between
individual and the state. Habeas corpus empowers the individual in holding accountable the exercise
of the states power to influence liberty. Our founding fathers were well aware of the Magna Carta, and
its astonishing abilities to be something great especially James Madison who was the primary architect
of the American Bill of Rights. Greatly influenced by the potential of the agreement, James Madison
began his own interpretation. James Madison borrowed heavily from Article 39 of the Magna Carta
which limited the legislative power. Madison was a key player in growing that particular article into
the Bill of Rights. It was through Magna Carta and our founding fathers interpretation of that article
that the American courts used and still use today when interpreting the rights of enemy combatants.
(Halliday, 2011) September 24th 1862 Lincoln issued a proclamation suspending the writs of Habeas
corpus nationwide and specified whose rights would be suspended. All traitors and rebel militias
against the U.S. shall be subject to martial law and liable to trial and punishment. (Longley, 2012) In
1866 after the American Civil War had ended the Supreme Court officially and fully restored Habeas
corpus throughout the entire nation. That would not be the first time a

Secularisation Of Religion In Australia Essay
The process of secularization arises not from the loss of faith but from the loss of social interest in the
world of faith. It begins the moment men feel that religion is irrelevant to the common way of life and
that society as such has nothing to do with the truths of faith. (Dawson Russello, 1998) Contemporary
society has exposed Australians of all ages to secularism making it vital that citizens adapt and
strengthen a personal and global conscience to keep fundamental religious values, morals and ethics
relevant. Humanity will prosper once there is a realization of the importance of a spiritual future. This
concept can truly be understood once society has a deep understanding for the secular dispute between
church versus state, the powerful depiction the media has of religion as well as the correlation between
secularism and immigration rates.
Within a secular society there are still cultural and social traditions that are established from
traditional religious beliefs and rituals. Most countries implement a dominate religion to which they
establish feudal legislation based on the rules and regulations of the chosen belief system. Australia is
secular according to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Media outlets in secular Australia tend to focus specifically on the negative incidents that occur within
different religions, swaying society s opinion on commitment to a belief system. Two heavily
publicised events that are still being covered by the media are firstly, the link of terrorism to the
Islamic faith and secondly, sex offenders associated with the Catholic Australian church. The
definition of the Islam belief system is the religious faith of Muslims including belief in Allah as the
sole deity and in Muhammad as his prophet (Webster, 2006). Currently there is an international and
ongoing crisis that has links with the

I Want For Graduate From Uncg With My Degree
I eventually want to graduate from UNCG with my degree in recreational therapy. I know that once I
do that, then I will be one step closer to accomplishing one of the many goals I have set out to
conquer. Then of course I want to attend graduate school for my program and graduate with my
doctorate in that field but ultimately I would like to be my own boss and have my own physical
therapy practice and facilities etc. I can honestly say I see myself established in my career 5 years
from now and doing what I love of course which is helping others through rehab. The population I
most interested working with in the future is children. Even though they are high in energy and may
be hard for them to consecrate on the activity they are doing, I feel as though they would be the most
fun and easiest group to deal with. I love to see joy I bring in a child life. The satisfaction of being that
individual to make a change in their life or they look up to me as a role model makes me feel like their
superhero. This gives me the chance to connect with a child who has been struggling, and when they
finally understand what you re trying to teach them is most fulfilling. The book Everything I Know
About Business I Learned from the Grateful Dead: The Ten Most Innovative Lessons from a Long,

American River Pirates and Their Influence on Pioneer Life
When I think of pirates, I think of the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Aden. I don t think of the Ohio
River. (Lepper) Mark Twain lived during a time when hearing someone s relation of a river pirate in
America was typical, and stores along the rivers were frequently being pillaged. He had much
experience on the rivers due to his early profession, and witnessed first hand the crimes that they
committed. Twain expressed his thoughts toward piracy through his literature, written around the time
that these greedy bandits took place. In the late 18th century, river pirates roamed the Mississippi and
Ohio Rivers, hunting for pioneers traveling down the river with their cargo. A common location for
them to reside was a large tavern referred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They fought in the American Revolution on the side of the British, but it was said that the only reason
why the joined was because of all the violence involved. While fighting they participated in burning
farms, raping women, and pillaging. After the war they were falsely accused of murder by a man
named Moses Stegall and placed in jail, however they escaped and discovered Cave In Rock when
they were on the run (Weiser). Here they captured many travelers coming down the river and killed
many of them. One time they even took a few ashore, blindfolded and tied one to a horse, and scared
the horse off a bluff of over a hundred feet high. Eventually they were driven out of a cave by other
outlaws just because they committed so many unpleasant acts. (Ailinani) Today, around the area of
Cave In Rock, many legends of the pirates are still told. Nearby locations were also named after the
pirates that once resided there. For example, a road was named Harpe s Head Road because this was
where Micajah was decapitated and his head was stuck on a pole by John Lieper and Moses Stegal.
There are also locations that are named Harpe s Hill and Harpe s House. These are all popular tourist
attractions, and Cave In Rock and the park around it was named a state park in 1929 in southern
Illinois, as seen in the picture to the right. Many books have also been written describing the cave s
history,

The Ancient Minoans and Their Demise
THE ANCIENT MINOANS
The Minoans were an advanced civilisation, ready to take on the world. But their progressive empire
was brought to a sudden end, their demise unknown to many archaeologists and scientists alike,
UNTIL NOW.
The Minoan demise is hotly debated amongst the most reputable archaeologists and scientists of today
The Ancient Minoans were an advanced civilisation located on the island of Crete that was devastated
firstly by natural disasters that sent their carefully structured island community spiralling into a
whirlwind of chaos, vulnerability and deterioration, resulting in invasion. It has been hotly debated
amongst the most reputable archaeologists and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Evidence of this lies within the strata of Crete. Here it can be seen that a thin layer of pumice, left
behind after volcanic eruptions, exists at the same layer that remains of the ancient Minoan civilisation
were found. The following is an image of this pumice within the strata:
Radiocarbon dating of this pumice has indicated that the eruption occurred approximately 3,600 years
ago, as indicated by the educational Thera Eruption website (2006). This eruption however, did not
bring the Minoan civilisation to an end as there is still evidence of the Minoan civilisation found in the
strata for another one hundred and fifty years after the volcanic eruption. Start Dunn, an archaeologist
who graduated from the University of Durham with a PhD in Aegean Bronze Age archaeology,
conducted fieldwork in Crete and also concludes that, in his opinion, this volcanic eruption did not
cause the end of the Minoan civilisation. Dunn states that: ...the volcanic ash from the Thera eruption
obviously shadowed Crete for a few days, but under no circumstances destroyed the Minoan
civilization... Stuart Dunn (2007), as viewed in Archaeology, mythology and history of Crete: Minoan
civilization website (2007). So if this volcanic eruption didn t cause the Minoan demise, what did?
Further clues that piece together this century old mystery also lie within the soil of Crete.
Archaeologist Sandy McGillivray, who

  • 2. Love and Lust in Play-By-Play, Sex without Love, and... Love and Lust in Play By Play, Sex without Love, and Junior Year Abroad Lust is an incredibly strong feeling that can prove to be almost uncontrollable, leading it to commonly be mistaken for love. Due to the relative closeness of these emotions, both are often confused, and even when one is in love he or she does not recognize it. Many think that love just comes knocking on one s door and one will know when it does, but they don t realize that for love to occur a relationship has must be worked out. Love is described by some as fireworks, tingles, and butterflies in the stomach; but it is lust that can cause these things to happen, and it is these that mark only the beginning of a relationship. After a while, these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At first, one might see the work as condemning people who have sex without being in love; but after further review, one can see how Olds really portrays these people. She describes them as being ...Beautiful as dancers,/ gliding over each other like ice skaters (Olds 838); also they are considered very religious, and in tune with their bodies much like great runners are. The characters in the poem are depicted as athletes, agile and ready to compete, much like how the narrator, who talks so highly of them, wants to be. However, once again, only the emotion of lust is present in this piece, and there is no confusion between love and lust. So many people fall victim to lust, believing that it is something more than what it is. In the poem Junior Year Abroad, the lead character reveals lust for a man in her homeland, an emotion that quickly fades away after meeting someone during her stay in Paris. The poem begins with an introduction to her situation and reveals that he will come to Paris at Christmas to be with her. The shelf life of my promise expired (Rebecca 839), is how she refers to her lover s upcoming visit, explaining how quickly her lust for him has gone away. This poem gives specific examples of how lust can be there one minute, then fade the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The And Native American Populations From a European stand point, altering the lives of the Native Americans was a perfectly justifiable action. They were uncivilized, and thus must be welcoming of their attempts to convert them to a more advanced manner of living. At the same time, however, they must have notions of owning land, of claiming sections of the Earth as their own, of trade and association of certain objects with high value. This, however, was a paradoxical viewpoint. The main problem that resulted from the intermixing of European and Native American populations was a misunderstanding of what each culture maintained as important within their lives. To the natives, mourning wars, gods who were part of the Earth itself, sacrifices, and any other number of various traditions were natural to who they were. The Europeans, in contrast, valued war as a means of gaining territory, not people; they often were monotheistic, with odd customs all their own, such as self torture or confession. The differences between the two cultures could have been overcome, perhaps, if there had been some attempt to understand one another s values. However, as evidenced, Europeans did not attempt to understand without an ultimate aspiration to change. One of the defining aspects that shaped Native American life after exposure to the Europeans was the disease they brought along with them. In The Jesuit Relations, as well as in other readings, the fathers explained this illness as a sort of cleansing designed by God. They ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Gun Rights The issue of gun rights has been a popular debate in the United States of America. The side opposing the rights to own certain guns have been frantically trying to convince others to join them in the fight. Like most advertisements, the ads concerning the issue of gun rights have to be provocative and eye catching. The Moms Demand Action for Gun Safety in America society created an advertisement around 2013 to persuade Americans to support the ban of assault weapons in America. The advertisement got the point across about the danger of not banned assault weapons compared to a relatively harmless banned children s book, but fell short with the lettering, resulting in the lack of explanation for the ad. The image contains two elementary age girls sitting on the ground facing the camera. These two girls are different races. The African American girl holds a copy of Little Riding Hood in her hands facing the camera. The Caucasian girl is holding a massive assault gun that appears to be almost as big as she is. These two girls are sitting cross legged on the ground in a typical elementary school library. The library has an American flag tucked in the corner. The wording One child is holding something that has been banned in America to protect them. is in white in the middle on top of the image. Underneath the white wording lies Guess which one is in red. • 5. The Dream Of A Detroit Man Named Berry Gordy Every year, tens of thousands of people come to Detroit, Michigan with hopes of getting a glimpse of Hitsville U.S.A. Since 1985, the recording studio that once produced and made the dreams of many famous singers a reality has been a popular tourist attraction, known as Motown Museum. Motown Museum is open five days a week to local and international visitors. Visitors are given a tour through Studio A, where they can stand in the same room in which their favorite Motown artist stood. Additionally, visitors also tour the newly renovated upper flat that Berry Gordy and his family lived in during the early part of the company s years. This beautiful place that appears to be frozen in time and conveniently located in the exact same spot where it all began, started from the dream of a Detroit man named Berry Gordy. During the 1950s African Americans were plagued by discrimination and injustice. For example, Sugrue (1996) states, housing was a well sought after necessity by new migrants, rapidly growing postwar families, returning veterans, and people displaced by urban redevelopment and highway projects.(p. 52) Essentially, all of these people were typically the ones who had limited if not income at all. Additionally, once the housing market slowly began to open in the mid 50s, advertising for available units discriminated against minorities by specifying the want for white tenants only . Miracles and Christianity Essays Miracles and Christianity In society today, the word miracle is commonly used to describe unexpected and surprising events: it was a miracle that I passed the exam, however, when it is used in a religious sense, it generally has the extra meaning of being an act of god . In the Bible, one can find many examples of miracles, but the central miraculous event is the claim that Jesus rose from the dead after his crucifixion, this was easier to accept as the truth in the past, but now modern science and medical advances prove that dead people do not rise again, they can be resuscitated at the point of near death, but do not come back to life after hours of death. Atheists have the same way of thinking except that instead of looking for what had not been explained (to find a place for God) they look for what had been explained (to try and push out God). Professor Charles Coulson was such a thinker: When we come to the scientifically unknown, our correct policy is not to rejoice because we have found God; it is to become better Scientists. The most significant rebuff to belief in miracles came from David Hume. Hume dedicated much of his work to the understanding of miracles, Hume believed, and showed that Miracles were, relatively a logical impossibility. Hume also said that because miracles are scientifically impossible, then it is impossible to believe anyone who claims to have witnessed such an extraordinary event, he then made an additional four points. 1) In all History there are not a sufficient number of people who have witnessed a miracle who have good sense, education and learning to confidently say that these so called miracles were not delusions within themselves. In other words people who believe in miracles are superstitious not scientific. 2) People believe in Miracles because they want to believe in Miracles. 3) Belief in miracles results from ignorance about how the world actually works. 4) All Gods cannot be the true God therefore ... Even with jellyfish everywhere, I still like the beach. They rest of my family hated being stung, but I kept telling them, suck it up and spray vinegar on it. The waves were perfect for surfing and skimming. Skimming is like surfing, but you run into the water with a four to five feet long board then you jump on the board. When you get in the water and a wave comes, you spin yourself around and head back to shore. • 9. Threat Of Talkies Threat of talkies Up until the 1930 s all films had been silent. Theaters would hire piano players to give sound to the audience, and life to the films. This would soon change starting with the growing popularity to use soundtracks, instead of hired piano players, to accompany the film. Later leading to the use of full sound throughout the picture. Chaplin, who had acquired fame and fortune from his work as a silent film actor and director, was reluctant to make the move to full sound. Undoubtedly, he must have wondered whether or not his film craft could survive the transition into the sound era. In his own words, Smith (1984) noted, he realized [he] could never achieve the excellence of [his] silent pictures [making sound films]. (p. 97). Leaving filmgoers to wonder whether Chaplin s style of comedy could survive the change. As previously stated, films did transition from silent to full sound right away. There was a gradual process that led up to Talkies . In 1925, Chaplin came out with The Gold Rush , a completely silent film featuring Chaplin s trademark character the Tramp , as a lonely prospector fighting against adversity while looking for love. The Gold Rush , became one of the highest grossing films of the silent era and Chaplin felt that it was the best film that he had made to that point in his career. • 11. Transcendentalism and Deep Ecology Transcendentalism has been linked to the birth of deep ecology, given the emotion and spiritual philosophy that connects the two movements. Both transcendentalism and deep ecology romanticize the natural world, and critique the way industrialization, modernization, and urbanization encroach on ecological and spiritual purity. The eco centric worldview and value system espoused by deep ecology has its roots in transcendentalism (Hicks, n.d.). Both transcendentalists and deep ecologists disparage the ways individuals, communities, and whole cultures present the human being as being entitled to rape and plunder the earth. However critical they were of human activity and stupidity, the transcendentalists were not misanthropes. The transcendentalists advocated for a better world, one that discarded ineffective and corrupt forms of government in favor of a more just and egalitarian society. All were abolitionists, in an era where slavery and sexism were both normative. Emerson advocated material and spiritual self reliance over philanthropy as a means of self empowerment. He also criticized traditional types of philanthropy as having a certain air of quackery, (Emerson, 1842). Philanthropy is often used as an excuse to avoid doing the real work of transforming the self and the society, according to Emerson. Thoreau promoted political activism in a more direct way than Emerson. In Civil Disobedience, Thoreau advocated various forms of civil disobedience as a means of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though President Jackson was not a common man himself, he was a great supporter of the middle class. He dramatically altered the country s banking system, by replacing wealthy elites with middle class white men. Even after his presidency, a new political party, the Whigs, continued to enact his ideas and political reforms to benefit the middle class. Andrew Jackson was a War Hero, who was raised in western America. He didn t go to school, and have get an education like his past presidents. However, having his military background, he was well informed on political ideals, and had his own opinion on how this nation should be ran. Jackson was a well off farmer and even owned many slaves. Like most of the people living in his time, he didn t believe slaves were considered equal with white men. So the common man era referred only to white men. Prior to the Jacksonian era, America was socially divided into the West and the East, so Andrew Jackson s presidential inauguration was a symbol of the west and the east coming together as one nation. The celebration was so grand, it nearly destroyed the White house. Carpets were dirty, glassware was destroyed, and mass chaos was evident. • 14. Making An Outdoor Art Installation When I thought about making an outdoor art installation, images of towering sculptures appeared in my head. In the corner of one, I imagined a spider web. The web was truly intricate, delicate, and breathtaking. Yet I desperately pushed the image away. Unable to shake the image, I was terrified that the tiny artist who made that web would suddenly appear in my mind. When I realized how irrational it was to fear an imaginary spider, I knew I had to make an installation of a spider web to face my crippling arachnophobia. I reminded myself of a famous saying from Eleanor Roosevelt: You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face... you must do the thing which you think you cannot do. I wanted that confidence, and I needed to believe I had enough strength and courage to create this piece. As an artist, my innate need to create is based on a need to express myself. According to Drozt, visionary art refers to art made with an inner vision or an intense feeling that is expressed throughout the work (2008). Visionary art accurately captures the drive and feelings I experience when I feel conceptually inspired, although I do not consider myself an outsider to artmaking. My work is always personal and I strive to be genuine to that experience. Because of this experience, I have added a layer of intentionality in my selection of materials and contemplation of the art s environment to my method of working. When I ... Defending Beef By Niman Summary In Defence of livestock Although many researchers believe that our planet s environment and ecosystems are facing many challenges due to livestock production, proponents of livestock production believe that the reason why the our environmental condition has worsened is not that we eat more meat but because we eat less of it. Niman argues that instead of decreasing production, we should focus on producing meat that is more environmentally sound. She also argues that Feed production with all its attendant problems of fossil fuel consumption, soil erosion, greenhouse gases, and chemical pollution can be avoided altogether (Niman, 79). There are many different practises and methods available for livestock production, and ultimately it is the choices that farmers make that determines the production s level of sustainability. The practices of industrial large scale operations like CAFOs result in both environmental damage as well as health concerns for humans and animals. Depletion, pollution and contamination are the biggest obstacles we face when trying to move toward a more sustainable planet. But when livestock is handled responsibly, with consideration for the environment and potential consequences, it is indeed possible to produce livestock that is beneficial for our planet. Organic and grass based farming systems such as silvopastoral systems have been proven to increase biodiversity, reverse soil erosion and counteract water depletion. By encouraging farmers to move towards more sustainable methods like these, we can help curb today s more urgent issues regarding our environment. While there are disagreements between researchers on how to do this, they all agree that we have to take some kind of action to save our planet. Possible ways to achieve this include not consuming meat, or buying meat from local, organic and grass based farmers to ensure the livestock was raised in a responsible way. • 18. Difference Between Eyewitness Testimony Whether an individual is a witness for or against your case, there are signs that a person may not be reliable. The following are a few things to look for. A witness s statement does not agree with the evidence This is not always obvious because a witness s statement can seem accurate except for a single variance with the physical evidence. This can be important because of the case were to go to trial, a simple discrepancy in the testimony could be exploited by the opposing attorney. Although it is normal for eyewitness testimony not to be perfect, if there is a difference between the witness s account and a particular piece of evidence, there is a chance that some or all of the testimony has been derived from the statement of one of the parties in the lawsuit or criminal case. There is a bias with the witness If the witness is a friend or relative of one of the parities involved, there is an obvious bias that the witness may have. This doesn t mean that the witness s statement is necessarily inaccurate, but anytime there is a relationship between a witness and the party being sued or is suing, then the statement may be questionable. • 20. Sea Level Training Essay When it comes to gaining an advantage, athletes will do everything in their power to make sure that they are able to outperform their competition. One currently legal method of accomplishing this is by going to a high altitude location, which increases the amount of oxygen getting to the tissues. This supposedly increases the amount of red blood cells in your body, and gives you an advantage if you were to perform back at sea level. However, should this be considered a reliable training technique or is it not worth the effort? Regardless of the elevation you are at on earth, the percentage of oxygen (21%), carbon dioxide (.03%), and nitrogen (79%) remain the same. Though, as you increase your elevation the pressure of the air decreases. This is because there is less pressure pushing down on the air as you move up through the levels of the atmosphere. As a result, the partial pressures decrease. At sea level the pressure of air is 760 mmHg, while at the peak of Mount Everest (extreme example) it is about 230 mmHg, showing that oxygen will have a lower partial pressure as you increase in altitude. One thing you might not have noticed is binary oppositions. Now all readers will see some universal oppositions such as good vs. evil, but as Corey Martin said in his paper there are many oppositions in literature, some are noticeable, some are not. Now why would a reader want to look for binary oppositions in literature? Quite simply binary oppositions add some familiarity to the work, but at the same time the reader has to analyze the work in order to understand it, which enhances analytical skills present in them. Now does that mean that all good works of literature have to have many binary oppositions for it to be fully developed? No, the author can have as few as one and the piece of literature will still make sense and be developed. Readers may get confused between binary oppositions and themes. A theme is the main idea the author is trying to get across in a story. Binary oppositions help develop the theme, but they are not the theme themselves. For example let s use Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The theme is simply young love. But Shakespeare used oppositions such as love and hate, and violence and peace to build on his theme. In Euripides tragedy, Medea, the main character Medea was taken away from her homeland and from her family and brought to a strange world by her husband Jason. In this essay, I will be talking about all the things that Jurgis as well as his family have overcome. Such as their downfalls as well as how they prospered and managed to stay together through most of the novel. Social Darwinism helps you get a different perspective of all the things going on in the societal classes. When someone has no motivation they really have no want to succeed. Being an immigrant and coming to the United States doesn t mean you re going to get rich at the instant. Even by working, you won t get at the level of the upper class rich people. Dishonesty is shown a lot among immigrants. Jurgis for example at the beginning of the novel had his family, his wife Ona, which made him the happiest man alive. No matter how rough the situation was he wouldn t care because he had his wife. Life put Jurgis through some pretty tough obstacles like the death of Ona and then shortly after the death of his baby. The so called real estate agent offered them a deal on this supposed great house that was cheap and exactly what they were looking for but little did Jurgis know that with that house came many more little pricy things that the agent forgot to tell them. • 25. U.s. Subprime Mortgage Crisis Essay The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis was a set of events and conditions that led to the late 2000s financial crisis, characterized by a rise in subprime mortgage delinquencies and foreclosures, and the resulting decline of securities backed by said mortgages. After U.S. housing sales prices peaked in mid 2006 and began their steep decline, refinancing became more difficult. As adjustable rate mortgages began to reset at higher interest rates, mortgage delinquencies soared. Securities backed with mortgages, including subprime mortgages, widely held by financial firms, lost most of their value. Global investors also drastically reduced purchases of mortgage backed debt and other securities as part of a decline in the capacity and willingness of the private financial system to support lending. Concerns about the soundness of U.S. credit and financial markets led to tightening credit around the world and slowing economic growth in the U.S. and Europe. The immediate cause or trigger of the crisis was the bursting of the United States housing bubble which peaked in approximately 2005 2006. Caused by an increase in loan incentives such as easy initial terms and a long term trend of rising housing prices had encouraged borrowers to assume difficult mortgages in the belief they would be able to quickly refinance at more favorable terms. Once interest rates began to rise and housing prices started to drop moderately in 2006 in many parts of the U.S., refinancing became more difficult. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Business Management Diversity Issues BUSINESS MANAGEMENT DIVERSITY ISSUES Contemporary business managers must be competent in all areas of diversity issues in order to comply with applicable federal laws, state laws, and to insulate their business organizations from potential civil liability arising from lawsuits for violations of those laws (Halbert Ingulli, 2008). Cultural diversity issues typically arise in connection with the increasing demographic diversity of American society in general. Gender, while not as strictly protected by law as racial identity, is subject to the protections of the laws of equality in many states and also is a potential source of civil liability in relation to discrimination and harassment in the workplace (George Jones, 2008). The research and development costs are spent before any units of the drug are produced, so the companies are left with very high fixed costs. The highly automated drug production facilities also contribute to the high fixed costs because building the high tech factories is very expensive. However, after the factory is built the marginal costs are very low in this industry because producing 1 more tablet or dose of the drug is very cheap because of the small amount of materials cost. ... Because no other company can manufacture the drug while these barriers are in place, they are the only supplier. They face a rather inelastic demand curve because sick people are likely to purchase the drug no matter the price. In the long run, after the patents and barriers to entry have expired, drug companies function like monopolistic competitors. Because the formula to manufacture the drug is no longer secret, other companies will produce generic versions of the drug. This means the supply will increase and the market will reach a more efficient, lower price of equilibrium. However, because the drug company will spend money on advertising to differentiate the drug from generic brands the company will act like monopolistic competitors not pure ... • 40. The Role Of Dysphasia In Parkinson s Disease What is dysphasia? Dysphasia is defined as the difficulty of food moving from the mouth to the stomach (Logemann, 1983); however, this definition can be expanded. According to Logemann (1983), this definition has been expanded to include all of the motor, behavioral, and sensory acts that are needed to prepare the body for the process of the swallow as well as cognitive abilities, and physiological responses to the smell of the food or liquid. A disorder can occur to any of these functions, so typically the process is broken down by the phases of the swallow. Such as, oral dysphasia, pharyngeal dysphasia, and esophageal dysphasia (Logemann, 1983). The list of signs and symptoms are endless due to the fact that the process has so many steps, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In recent years statistics have shown that this occurs anywhere from one third for four fifths of patients who have been diagnosed with Parkinson s disease. According to Rajaei et al. (2014), the statistics are higher, saying that oropharyngeal dysphasia occurs in up to 80% of Parkinson s patients but increases up to 95 100% of patients in the latter more progressed stages of the disease. This occurs because of the motor loss in the patient s body from the lack of dopamine being produced in the brain (Ellerston et al., 2016). According to (Argolo et al., 2013), rigidity and brandykinesia formed in the oralpharyngeal muscles, lack of coordination between breathing and swallowing, and the loss or reduction of sensation in the oral cavity and pharynx are all involved in the patients dysphasia. Ellerston et al. (2016) reviewed studies done on Parkinson s patients diagnosed with dysphasia using videofluoroscopic modified barium swallow (MBS) study. According to Ellerston et al. (2016), these studies revealed that the patients had impaired laryngeal movement, palatal elevation deficits, lack of epiglottic movement, anterior hyoid bone movement, and vocal fold adduction deficits. The modified barium swallowing studies also revealed that the patients with Parkinson s also showed prolonged pharyngeal transit times (Ellerston et al., 2016). Because of these deficits in the musculature Ellerston et al.(2016), reported that it would lead to vallecular pooling and residue, possible laryngeal penetration, and possible aspiration which could lead to respiratory illnesses or aspiration pneumonia. Ellerston et al. (2016), also revealed from reviewing past literature that when comparing the patients results of the bedside screening to the results of the MBS, almost 80% of the swallowing disorders went unnoticed, including patients who were aspirating. Count Nissan among the few. Among mainstream brands, the Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia, GMC Yukon, Chevrolet Tahoe, and the Ford Expedition are your choices. Of the five, the Armada is the newest name, but for several years it was the oldest moniker in terms of product age. That s all changed now as the 2017 Nissan Armada is out, the second generation of this big eight passenger SUV. All New Endurance Engine The all new Armada shares the same 5.6 liter, V8 gasoline engine found in the Titan and Titan XD. Known as Endurance, the engine is the same size as the previous V8, but otherwise it, too, is new. Nissan says the beefy V8 is outfitted with variable valve event lift (VVEL) technology for improved response and performance. Further, Nissan enhanced throttle response by controlling the intake valve and also employs direct injection gas technology. Where the previous engine created 317 horsepower and 385 pound feet of torque, the latest engine makes 390 horsepower and 401 pound feet of torque. Nissan rounds out the powertrain with a seven speed automatic transmission. Powerful, Expressive Exterior Without getting lost in the details, Nissan combined elements from its other vehicles to develop the new Armada s exterior. To begin, the grille offers a familiar look, one advanced by the popular Pathfinder crossover. While the headlamp assembly is similar to the Titan s, it offers its own look. The lower grille or air intake is unique, coming in wider and longer than the pickup truck line. The truck s frontal presentation is muscular, with a sculpted hood not unlike the Titan s. So, what you have here is a combination of existing and new Nissan elements to establish the Armada s face.

Habeas corpus empowers the individual in holding accountable the exercise of the states power to influence liberty. Our founding fathers were well aware of the Magna Carta, and its astonishing abilities to be something great especially James Madison who was the primary architect of the American Bill of Rights. Greatly influenced by the potential of the agreement, James Madison began his own interpretation. James Madison borrowed heavily from Article 39 of the Magna Carta which limited the legislative power. Madison was a key player in growing that particular article into the Bill of Rights. It was through Magna Carta and our founding fathers interpretation of that article that the American courts used and still use today when interpreting the rights of enemy combatants. (Halliday, 2011) September 24th 1862 Lincoln issued a proclamation suspending the writs of Habeas corpus nationwide and specified whose rights would be suspended. • 47. Secularisation Of Religion In Australia Essay The process of secularization arises not from the loss of faith but from the loss of social interest in the world of faith. It begins the moment men feel that religion is irrelevant to the common way of life and that society as such has nothing to do with the truths of faith. (Dawson Russello, 1998) Contemporary society has exposed Australians of all ages to secularism making it vital that citizens adapt and strengthen a personal and global conscience to keep fundamental religious values, morals and ethics relevant. Humanity will prosper once there is a realization of the importance of a spiritual future. This concept can truly be understood once society has a deep understanding for the secular dispute between church versus state, the powerful depiction the media has of religion as well as the correlation between secularism and immigration rates. Within a secular society there are still cultural and social traditions that are established from traditional religious beliefs and rituals. Most countries implement a dominate religion to which they establish feudal legislation based on the rules and regulations of the chosen belief system. Australia is secular according to the ... (Lepper) Mark Twain lived during a time when hearing someone s relation of a river pirate in America was typical, and stores along the rivers were frequently being pillaged. He had much experience on the rivers due to his early profession, and witnessed first hand the crimes that they committed. Twain expressed his thoughts toward piracy through his literature, written around the time that these greedy bandits took place. While fighting they participated in burning farms, raping women, and pillaging. After the war they were falsely accused of murder by a man named Moses Stegall and placed in jail, however they escaped and discovered Cave In Rock when they were on the run (Weiser). Here they captured many travelers coming down the river and killed many of them. One time they even took a few ashore, blindfolded and tied one to a horse, and scared the horse off a bluff of over a hundred feet high. Eventually they were driven out of a cave by other outlaws just because they committed so many unpleasant acts. (Ailinani) Today, around the area of Cave In Rock, many legends of the pirates are still told. Nearby locations were also named after the pirates that once resided there. Here it can be seen that a thin layer of pumice, left behind after volcanic eruptions, exists at the same layer that remains of the ancient Minoan civilisation were found. The following is an image of this pumice within the strata: Radiocarbon dating of this pumice has indicated that the eruption occurred approximately 3,600 years ago, as indicated by the educational Thera Eruption website (2006). This eruption however, did not bring the Minoan civilisation to an end as there is still evidence of the Minoan civilisation found in the strata for another one hundred and fifty years after the volcanic eruption. Start Dunn, an archaeologist who graduated from the University of Durham with a PhD in Aegean Bronze Age archaeology, conducted fieldwork in Crete and also concludes that, in his opinion, this volcanic eruption did not cause the end of the Minoan civilisation.
