A Dog s Tale Literary Devices
But indeed it was not real education; it was only show. From A Dog s Tale by Mark Twain. He
expresses his humor with his own style of writing.By using different Literary devices in his work in
this text he uses a humorous tone and amusing descriptions to make the reader laugh.
My father was a St.Bernard, my mother was a collie, but I am a Presbyterian. Mark Twain try s to
make a humorous effect by describing how the narrator s parents are by using dog descriptions to
describe their personalities. Like for example, the mother he described her as a collie, which are
known to be very delicate and beautiful.Mark Twain uses personification to give human characteristics
to a dog in a humorous but ironic way. My mother had a fondness for [words]; she liked to say them,
and see other dogs surprised and envious, wondering how she got so much education...Whenever she
heard a large word, she said it over to herself many times, and so was able to keep it until there was
dogmatic gathering. Whenever his mother heard a large word she would repeat it to herself many
times over until she can express it in a gathering. And successfully making them think that she is
educated when she s really not she wouldn t even know the meaning of those words but says them to
impress and make her neighbors envious about how ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Use of Marijuana for Medicinal Purposes Essay
The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has long been at the centre of much controversy. Some
studies have shown results that the benefits of using marijuana for medicinal reasons far outweigh the
negative health matters that may be associated with its use, and therefore should be an accepted
method of treatment for some patients who are suffering with illnesses such as multiple sclerosis,
cancer, AIDS, and eating disorders (Okie, 2005). Still, other studies have proven that there is not
enough scientific evidence on the drug, there for it should not be legalized for the use of medication
(Hutchings, 2002). Currently the issue is moving forward, although not without controversy, but it is
unclear when a clear decision will be made. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Chemical breakdown of cannabis, which marijuana is a herbal product of, contains many
components that prove beneficial in the medical field. Parts of the medical field that these components
benefit would include various neurological conditions, such as spasticity, pain or sleeping disorders. It
is currently difficult to conclude whether these benefits overpower the risks that a person with a
neurological disorder would be taking. However Canadian surveys have showed that in two
neurological disorder cases, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, cannabis has proven to be beneficial to
symptom relief. People with these disorders using cannabis have gotten relief from both their primary
symptoms and other symptoms associated with their disorders. In people with epilepsy, the severity
and frequency of their seizures was reduced. In people with multiple sclerosis were found to have
reduced pain and spasticity, as well as being relived from psychological symptoms caused by the
disorder. Without the use of cannabis in some users, they would have a much more difficult time
dealing with the symptoms of their disorders (Wingerchuk, 2004). However, there still remains a lot of
opposition on the topic of medical marijuana.
In the article by Doctor Reginald Hutchings, from Charlottetown P.E.I., discusses the negative side of
marijuana. As a physician, Hutchings states that he will not prescribe marijuana to his patients unless

How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Done
Art is never finished, only abandoned. This is one of Leonardo da Vinci s famous quotes. I personally
find it appealing and memorizing. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever truly finished!
Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much, much, more!
Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was in
a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in what is
now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco, instead of
his two unmarried parents. At the age of 15, Leonardo da Vinci became the apprentice of the artist
Andrea del Verrocchio. Andrea del Verrocchio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of the
parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed the world,
and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household. Leonardo da Vinci also
sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did imagaine it, and his sketch helped
modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the
helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but he also built The Revolving Bridge. The
Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by
armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke
Sforza.
I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building and
creating, and I adore art. I definitely think that if I ever become a scientist, this would be the field of
science I would enjoy! I spend most of my time drawing and building, much like Leonardo da Vinci
did. And it just so happens that I ve always had an eye for science, and it seems to be my best subject.
I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day, I will be just as good as artist as Leonardo da Vinci. So as I
conclude my essay, I would like to say just one more genius quote by Leonardo da Vinci

Non-Cell Autonomous Tumor Supression by p53
Non Cell Autonomous Tumor Suppression by p53
Introduction and significance for the entire manuscript (Guide: approx one quarter page/150 words).
The p53 is a vital tumour suppressor protein in humans which is important for cell cycle regulation.
Ablation of the p53 protein causes the cell to proliferate infinitely that contributes to the development
of tumours. Through the cell autonomous program the cell cycle arrest and apoptosis is caused by the
presence of p53. The aim of the journal is to study cellular senescence program in hepatic stellate cells
that is p53 dependent which is formed by dying hepatocytes which secret factors that influence the
tissue microenvironment, preventing fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer via promoting p53 senescent
in these HSCs. The research objectives explain that fibrosis is limited through the p53 mediated
senescence program by stopping HSC proliferation through cell autonomous canonical senescence
regulators and the non cell autonomous effects of SASP on ECM and immune surveillance. Currently
there is a debate on the role p53 plays in HSCs which influences later stages of liver cancer and the
research exhibits that through non cell autonomous mechanisms, p53 can inhibit cancer by
manipulating the tissue microenvironment.

Creon Antigone Analysis
In Antigone, Creon s mind is pulled in two opposite directions: His hubris, and, in contrast, his human
duty to the gods. His decision to not follow the gods decrees and the consequences of that decision are
used by Sophocles to remind the audience to stand with the gods.
Creon, the King of Thebes, produced a law in lines 222 228 that a man named Polynices could not be
buried, a law that he knew was in direct opposition to a law of the gods. When Antigone tried to
follow the gods law by burying Polynices, Creon had her locked up. Creon would have known the
laws of the gods, being Grecian perhaps even better than most, being an educated man however, he
made the law anyway. Sophocles example through Creon gives the audience an example of deliberate
disobedience and how easy it is to affront the gods, even if it seems like the honorable thing to do.
And Creon did think this; because Polynices was a traitor, Creon was opposed to honoring him with
burial, so inducting the law that he could not be into society. Nobility notwithstanding, this law was
against the gods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Creon instructs Tiresius (1152 1158) that not even the gods could stop his resolve to lock up Antigone
and leave Polynices corpse exposed. However, when his son, Haemon (1296), as well as his wife,
Eurydice (1412 1414), kill themselves because of Creon s decisions, he has a complete reversal in
attitude. Despite the attempt to right his wrongs (1235 1239), admitting that he could not best or
control the gods, Creon received punishments, his crimes against the gods too great. Sophocles
exaggerates the everyday occurrence of going against the gods to the audience sin order for them to
learn from Creon s example, telling them that the consequences will always find

Food Pyramids:
Food Pyramids are pyramid graphs showing the different levels of population, food energy, and other
factors. Some of these pyramids include the Pyramid of Biomass which shows the total amount of dry
mass per trophic level. The trophic level of an organism is the position it occupies in a food chain. The
other pyramids are Pyramid of Numbers, which show how many of the creature per trophic level and
Pyramid of Energy which shows how much total energy is available at each trophic level. This
pyramid cannot be inverted because energy always decreases the higher up you go. The threats to the

When fossil fuels are burnt, the c02 is released into the atmosphere rapidly, and the c02 cycle doesn t
have enough time to get the c02 out of the atmosphere. This c02 traps the heat from coming out of the
atmosphere and creates global warming. Global warming is serious because it melts the ice cap,
removes habitas, raises sea levels and many other negative effects. A good way to stop this
environmental hazard is to use green energy. Instead of burning coal and natural gas, we can use more
wind turbines, hydro electric dams and other green electricity options. We also need to research solar
panels more, so we can make them more efficiant. If we start to do this, the c02 outtake would be
significantly decreased and the world will be a better place to live

Life Worthy Of The Calling You Have Received
Live a life worthy of the calling you have received (Ephesians 4:1). In a world where Christianity is
becoming more unusual, it is important for those who are Christians to possess traits such as maturity,
gentleness, patience, and forgiveness. Unfortunately, sometimes these traits are taken over by our
sinfulness. Sin is the rebellion against the divine law of God. As we look at sin today, we see it as a
system of ranking, however God sees all sin as equal. Knowing this, it becomes critical that we don t
conform to what society does. Some sinful behaviors that people should be more educated about are
sex outside of marriage, homosexuality, and sarcasm.
As sex becomes more exposed in society, there are many controversial topics. Sex to some is
considered personal and private, while others believe sex is seductive and it sell. In a survey by The
National Health and Social Life it was discovered that many people say that married sex is the most
satisfying. This interesting finds brings up the topic of God s design for sex. God says that sex is for a
complimentary pair, meaning a man and a woman. God also designed sex to be inside a permanent
union. God created sex for procreation, pleasure, and bonding. The sexual revolution of the 1960s
completely changed what sex looked like in society. Sex was detached from procreation, marriage,
gender, and most importantly God. This sexual revolution trend still continues today. Many people
have sex outside of marriage, and for some

Leadership From A Natural Sciences Standpoint
There have been many studies and papers written about leadership by looking at all sorts of
perspectives. More recently, researchers have started to look at the keys to leadership from a natural
sciences standpoint. The world is starting to understand that our views of leadership in organizations
have to be consistent with the nature of the world outside. Richard Wielkiewicz and Stephen Stelzner
go so far to say that the key to effective leadership is by looking at and having a fair representation of
all perspectives, that includes an environmental perspective. They not only give assertions about
leadership as a whole, but they also give criteria for looking at leadership from an ecological
standpoint as to better understand it.
In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A third assertion says organizations are more adaptive when diversity of input is present. This is an
easy statement to understand. If people with different backgrounds give input, there will be a wider
range of thoughts and ideas. If an organization takes these diverse perspectives into account, they will
be better able to adapt to changing thoughts and societal norms. The final assertion given is related to
Wheatley s notion of new and old science. Wheatley suggests that old science is a mechanistic view
that is no longer relatable and that her idea of new science is one that needs to be followed (Wheatley,
2006, pg. 15). On the other hand, Wielkiewicz and Stelzner say that instead of just rejecting old
science, there should be a tension between the two approaches. One needs to find a resolution between
the traditional industrial approach and the lesser known neglected ecological approach .
There are four ecological principles than can help explain organizational leadership. They are
interdependence, open systems and feedback loops, the cycling of resources, and adaptation. By
looking at each principle, one can relate it back to their organization and hopefully be able to integrate
the things learned with previous notions in order to make leadership more efficient. While it is an
interesting idea to use scientific

Describe Emerson s Idea Of Self-Reliance
Analysis of Self Reliance
1. Describe Emerson s idea of self reliance in your own words. To what extent do you agree or
disagree with his philosophy? Would you consider yourself to be self reliant and to what degree?
Emerson s idea of self reliance is that a person must seek truth above all else in life, or else their life
has been wasted. To find truth a person must not listen or be bothered by the opinions of others, form
their own opinions and not just adopt whatever may be popular at the time, not change their purpose in
life to fit someone else s expectations of what it should be, and above all to seek your own individual
truth without conforming to what the world believes or wants to change you into. I agree with
Emerson that a person should find their own reason for living, and that that purpose should drive their
actions and intentions, I also agree that other people s opinions on what you should do with your own
life should be ignored. However, I disagree with Emerson on his idea that a person should not be
bound to what they have said in the past, and that you should have no regard for consistency of actions
or words. I believe that a person should be consistent in their words in actions, or else they are not
being authentic to themselves. I also do not agree with Emerson in that if a person conforms at all to
societal views or pressures that everything they say or do will be false because one portion of their
beliefs is borrowed from the world. I believe

reasons. Justras worked closely with three music education professors to develop a community music

childhood. Unlike Jutras study of NHIMA band musicians who practiced 3.75 hours per week,
Coffman s (2008) NHIMA band members practiced 7 hours per week. The SF 36v2 Health Survey
revealed that participants reported NHIMA benefited them by 74% overall well being, 24% physical
well being, 21% cognitive stimulation, and 20% socialization (see Table 2.2). The differences between
Jutras (2011) NHIMA study and Coffman s (2008) NHIMA study are motivation to learn music, and
practicing instruments daily in preparation of rehearsals, which is standard practice for preparation of
community concerts. Perhaps Coffman s (2008) musicians were more serious in developing their
music competency skills and thereby achieved higher levels of brain activity. Whereas, Jutras (2011)
musicians would fit the definition of health care patients or as Gates (1991) described them as
recreationalists or as Stebbins (1992) described individuals as amateurs, volunteers, hobbyists, and
dabblers. As the authors identified, participants lacked the motivation to play their instruments at
home in preparation for band rehearsals, which are preparatory for music concerts. The results in these
studies suggest the activity and continuity theories to explain older adults

The One with the Three Parts of Freuds Psyche
The One with the Three Parts of Freud s Psyche
According to Sigmund Freud, every human has three parts of their personalities. One part is the id: the
part of a person that is pleasure driven. It is the part of the personality structure that runs on instinctual
desires. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is superego. Superego is the section of one s
personality that is only concerned with others opinions and must have perfect behavior in order to
please others. Finally there is ego, the reality of one s personality. It is what one actually does to try to
please both extremes of their personality. Though everyone has parts of each within them, some
people have one part of their personality outshine the others. In the tv series Friends , directed by
Robby Benson, the three parts of the psyche are demonstrated through the three main characters
Chandler, Ross and Joey. Joey Tribbiani represents the id, he lives by the pleasure principle and is
concerned primarily with immediate gratification. Ross clearly corresponds with the ego and operates
on the reality principle. While he certainly likes the same pleasurable things as Joey, he derives his
satisfaction through more realistic long term means. Lastly, Chandler completes the set representing
the superego. He internalizes cultural norms and expectations which realizes the feeling of guilt or
shame. In the episode, The one with all the Jealousy , it shows Joey, Chandler, and Ross s freudian
characteristics very

Similarities Between Shintoism And Buddhism
In Japan, there are many different religions, some may not be as significant as others, but they are
existing there. Some of these religions include Shintoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Christianity, etc..
but I have narrowed it down to the two most prominent religions in the nation of Japan: Shintoism and
Buddhism. In this research paper, I am going to describe these two religions more in depth, such as the
beliefs, the differences, the similarities, how these religions act toward another (Contradict or
compliment each other) and I will even show you how these religions has changed Japan in the last 50
years.
One of the major religions that have existed in Japan is Shintoism, this religion pretty much as old as
Japan itself. Shintoism was started in Japan, the beliefs in Shintoism include focusing on ritual
practices that are carried out diligently to establish a connection between present day Japan and its
past. Shintoists believe in Kami, or gods, examples of Kami include but are not limited to Amaterasu,

spirit/soul, and buddhism is more concerned with the body and mind. Another difference is that
Shintoists believe in many kami, or gods, while in contrast, buddhists believe in certain deities. In
conclusion, as you can see, these two religions seem like they can compliment each other, right? Well

Framing The West By Rachel Stiff Essay
In the Winchester Cultural Center Gallery, Rachel Stiff s artwork is displayed in an exhibit called:
Framing the West . As you walk through the door, you would see Rachel s drawings arranged in a row
beginning from the wall nearest to the window, that expands to the center of the room, and then ends

white wooden frame. Whereas, the paintings were presented in a gold frame or no frame at all. There
are fourteen pieces of Rachel s work being exposed to the public s naked eye. She presents her
inspired paintings as well as drawings of the Las Vegas desert landscapes through abstract by using
interlacing clouds, the sun s rays, rocks, and landforms. Although there were fourteen of her pieces to

artwork, Goner × 2, Gravel Pit No.3, and Gravel Pit No.5 captured my attention the most in result of

share an involvement as well. With that being said, subtractive colors are visible to one s eye. As you

An Analysis Of Tim O Brien s Things They Carried
Stories play a very important role in our society. However, the process that the story is told differs
based on its form. For example is it a poem (which has a specific form and style) or is it a prose
(written/spoken language without any metrical structure)? Although poetry and prose greatly differs
from each other, there are many similarities between them. Prose is defined to be in an ordinary form,
but prose can share some poetic qualities such as literary devices, imagery, and theme, and many
more. Tim O Brien s Things They Carried depicts a fragmented stories about his and other soldiers
experiences that occurred in the Vietnam War. Similarly, the poem, Facing It shows a soldier who
returns to the Memorial of the Vietnam War where he recalls his own trauma in the war as he looks at
the stones. Both the prose, Things They Carried and the poem, Facing it conveys the similar theme
where they are struggling to overcome the trauma of the war and face the reality. However, the style
and the form that the poem and the prose is depicted differs from each other. The main theme of The
Things They Carried is how O Brien utilizes the strategy of storytelling in order to transcend the
reality so that he can convey the truths of his and other soldiers traumatic experiences. O Brien
mentions in the story that after getting drafted, he flees to the the Rainy River, on the border of
Canada. In actuality, O Brien never fled to the Rainy River. He did not lie so

Scott Mescudi Is A Hip Hop Artist
Scott Mescudi is a hip hop artist whose music captures the mind of his listeners through his depressed
melodic harmonies. As a child he suffered a traumatic incident that led him to become what he is
today for better or for worse. His father died when he was eleven years old inspiring him musically
and as a person. With Scott s father dieing he became depressed (Jaliman). He struggled through life
dealing with his depression as a kid through when he is an adult. The only way for him to feel an
escape from his sadness and lonesomeness was through his artistic ability in creating music. Through
that Scott expresses his passions and demons. On his album Man on the Moon and other popular

He later was expelled for threatening to punch his principle at Solon but does go on to earn his GED.
Him threatening his principal is an inappropriate action and could have been influenced by his older
brother Dean who was not the best influence. He mother loved Scott and knew knew he was talented
in the area of art so she enrolled him in Toledo college where he studied film for a year but dropped
out. He moved to New York where he stayed with his uncle Kalil Madi. Scott took the name Kid Cudi
and began making mixtapes and making real music when he creates his first hit single Day N Night
Day N Night was created after his uncle passed away and holds a lot of meaning because before Kalil
passed away he kicked Scott out of his house despite Scott not having and other living arrangements.
Scott was bitter for that but never apologized for his bitterness which he regrets once Kalil dies. Khalil
s death inspired Scott (Kid Cudi) to write Day N Night .
The song begins with the first verse:
Day and night (what, what)
I toss and turn, I keep stressing my mind, mind (what, what)
I look for peace but see I don t attain (what, what)
What I need for keeps this silly game we play, play
Now look at this (what, what)

Construction and the Built Environment
Construction and the Environment Assignment One The year 1992 and the ‘Earth Summit in Rio de
Janeiro marked a paradigm shift in the attitude of the governments of the world, as over 150 delegates
attended and recognised the importance of ecological issues to the future of humanity. This was of
great significance to the construction industry, as one of the greatest consumers, and producers, of our
economic system. ‘Construction accounts for 40% of the total flow of raw materials into the global
economy every year – some 3 billion cubic tons. The industry accounts for approximately 9% of

According to the Environment Agency, 31% of land used for residential uses originated from
farmland. Two widely used terms in this arena are brownfield and greenfield. Brownfield refers to
sites that have previously been occupied by a permanent structure, greenfield to virgin land. A
governmental target has been set for 60% of new housing to be sited on brownfield areas. As the risk
of flooding is expected to increase due to climate change, there can be a conflict between the desire to
build on flood safe areas and to utilise brownfield sites, as many of the latter are situated in areas
known to be at risk from flooding. Another problem is that the greatest need for new housing is in the
South East, whereas more available brownfield land is located in the North due to the decline of heavy
industry. Building on previous industrial sites has its own problems as there may be contamination in
the soil itself, something that has to be assessed at the planning stage as part of the general site

Qin Dynasty Dbq Essay
The earliest Emperor of the Qin dynasty was Qin Shi Huang, who was born in 259BCE and ultimately
came into power at the age of 21. Despite accomplishing many significant achievements, he attained
this in a brutal and callous way. Arguments that will be clearly discussed and explained in this
assignment to emphasize the negative aspects of Qin Shi Huang are: the severe punishments he
enforced for criminals, his fierce and deceitful war strategies and the prohibiting and burning of
Confucius teachings.
Qin Shi Huang was feared by his subjects as he was seen as a barbaric and ruthless autocrat who took
extreme measures to preclude rebellion in his empire, mostly by enforcing severe punishments for
criminals. (Source 1) The penalty for major crime

High Scores On Safety Standards
Scores on most of the items in this dimension are high. High scores represent a positive attitude
towards safety. The lowest score observed was on PA7 which questions about trade off between
getting a task completed and doing it by the book. With a mean score of (3.72) it shows disagreement
among respondents as to how a task is completed according to their job. For instance, ATC
respondents show that half of them agree there is a trade off between getting a task done and doing it
by the book, while the other half disagree with the statement. The highest score observed was (4.75) in

All scores in the items shows a general positive motive towards safety. However, there are a few

Salem Witchcraft Trials Essay
Salem Witchcraft Trials Thesis Statement ================ The Salem Witchcraft Trials
occurred because of the depth of Salem Puritans belief in witchcraft and the devil. Introduction
============ The Salem Witchcraft trials started in 1692 resulting in 19 executions and 150
accusations of witchcraft. This was the biggest outbreak of witchcraft hysteria in colonial New
England. The trials began because three young girls, Betty Parris, Abigail Williams and Ann Putnam
began having hysterical fits, convulsions and terrifying visions after being caught engaging in
forbidden fortune telling[1]. The doctors couldn t diagnose the condition, so the puritans termed it as

The first women to be accused of witchcraft in Salem were seen as different and as social outcasts:
Tituba, a slave; Sarah Good, a homeless beggar; and Sarah Osborne, a sickly old woman who married
her servant. These women were unpopular and it was easy to point fingers at them. Gossips and
rumors were enough to accuse them. Tituba[3] was a dark skinned slave who lived in the household of
the Reverend Samuel Parris. She was familiar with the West Indian Voodoo and practicing magic. In
the evenings Tituba entertained little Betty and her cousin Abigail Williams by the kitchen fire. She
played fortune telling games and told them stories of magic and spirits from the Caribbean. Tituba was
pointed out by the three girls and accused of teaching them witchcraft and fortune telling, which
resulted in their strange behavior. Tituba did not deny the allegations. She confessed to being a witch
after Reverend Parris beat her. Because she confessed, she was not executed. In her trial she said The
devil came to me and bid me serve him and talked about black dogs, red cats, yellow birds, and a
white haired man who bade her sign the devil s book. She also identified Sarah Good and Sarah
Osborne as witches. Since the people were superstitious and believed in the

upbringing in inner city Detroit to his position as director of pediatric neurosurgery at John Hopkins
Hospital at age 33. The novel foregrounds Carson s struggle to defy all odds aided by his iron will,
tremendous faith, respect, meekness and an unconditional devotion to God.
Carson displayed great determination and dedication from a young age. He thrived to be ahead of his
studies and went the extra mile for the well being of his education. After I started pulling ahead in
school, the desire to be smarter grew stronger and stronger. Carson focused more on being the best he

Throughout the auto biography Carson demonstrates an extraordinary amount of trust and faith in the
Lord. A pristine example of Carson s faith is portrayed before a major chemistry final. Although
Carson was unprepared, he laid the situation before God and was able to miraculously score well in
the exam. Carson lived a Christ oriented life and the blessings were endless. His faithfulness
demonstrated the power in living in such a way.
Carson was no ordinary man. His intricate way of thinking was like no other. One of the most obvious
and well known achievement is his concept of incorporating lasers in neurosurgery to nullify
complexities faced whilst operating. He knew there was an easier way and took the initiative to act
upon his ideas. Comparing Carson s accomplishments and initial circumstances serves as living proof
that anyone can be an influential figure in our society.
Carson s radiant demeanor shone throughout the course of his life. His pleasant behavior and respect
for others produced a very likable individual. Although there were countless incidents where Carson
could bad mouth white folk, he never resorted to racial prejudice and whole heartedly believed in
equality amongst everyone.
The problem with many of the intellectually talented is the mentality they withhold which
automatically grants them bragging rights. Carson on the other hand was a silent achiever, very

Psychological factors can be related to many different problems, one problem that had personally
affected me was the grades I got my freshman year of college. I started my college career struggling a
little bit and often wondered how I could raise my grades and improve my GPA until I was satisfied
with the grades I would get. Coming to college I was finally on my own with no one to wake me up,
make me do homework, or go to class. These all led to my GPA not being exactly where I wanted it to
be along with a number of psychological factors that have all been introduced throughout lecture and
the readings. The four different chapters I can relate this problem most too would have to be those on

This is procrastination which is never a good thing and always leads to late nights, lots of coffee, and
poor sleeping habits. I procrastinate because I tend to think I am smart and can get it done and in a
short period of time without much work and research done before. This led to me handing in subpar
papers or assignments therefore bringing my GPA to an unacceptably low level for what I expected
out of myself. Another thing I could relate the procrastination to is a lack of motivation. In high school
I didn t have to do much studying or spend time writing long papers or doing assignments. So when I
came to college I thought it would be the same way and I quickly learned that the college work load is
much different and more intense than a high school work load. This was a major factor in my GPA
being where it was. I was not extremely motivated to be taking all the general education classes I was
enrolled in and therefore did not invest the time that I should have. Having a good GPA is not a
primary instinct like hunger or thirst, it is taught to you that you should strive to have a good GPA.
Hunger, thirst, sleep, and sex are all primary drives of motivation and are all biological needs. A
reason why I think I was not satisfied with my grades is because I was doing it for an extrinsic
purpose, the grade. If I had more intrinsic motivation and found enjoyment in the work I was doing
and was actually interested in the field of study I possibly could have

Essay on The Paradox of A Clockwork Orange
The grace of evil in A Clockwork Orange is a recurring paradox throughout the novel and also implies
a deep religious connotation. The main foci are the several aspects of evil, violence, and sexual acts
committed by Alex and his gang members. However, Anthony Burgess has cleverly incorporated
similar paradoxes to that of grace and evil, along with a different dialect to aid in masking the true
harshness that lies underneath the violence. The other paradoxes include the extremes of night and
day, good and bad, and black and white.
The depiction of evil as being graceful is relevant to the actual title, but also reflects the actions,
dialect, and events in the main character Alex s life. Appearance can be deceiving because ... Show

When this is applied to one s life, hope can be found. Burgess wanted to emphasize that no matter how
bad a person Alex may have been, he deserved God s Grace and forgiveness. Therefore, freedom of
choice is more important, no matter what evil acts people choose to carry out.
There are a plethora of instances throughout the novel where violent acts are committed, yet described
and portrayed gracefully. As the novel opens, Alex and his droogs are preparing themselves for a night
of fighting. In just one night, they manage to rob, rape, and assault several others. However, the major
crime of the night was the rape of the writer F. Alexander s wife, who later dies due to the injuries
inflicted upon her. The crimes of that night and every night to follow are both artistically committed
on Alex s part and masked with the use of Nadsat which is the dialect based on Slavic and Russian.
During fight scenes it is apparent that Alex enjoys the pain he inflicts upon others. Because fighting is
a frequent occurrence, he tries to make each one more pleasurable, interesting, and artistic. When Alex
and his droogs come across Billyboy who is raping an innocent girl with his gang, this fight scene is
depicted artistically by Alex, the narrator. Even though it is evil, horrible, and violent, there is
gracefulness present through his actions. He states, but for my own part [I] had a fine starry

Application of the Personality Theories Developed by Erik Erikson and Raymond Cattell
Personality is made up of the characteristic patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that make a
person unique. It arises from within the individual and remains fairly consistent throughout life
(Cherry, 2014). My personality is influenced from my specific circumstances, my upbringing, and it is
represented best through the theorists of Erik Erikson and Raymond Cattell.
In specific circumstances my behavior changes, I am introverted, and quiet with new people for
example. In large groups of people I stick to my friends and remain quiet. In the instance that I know a
good majority of the people that I am around, I am outgoing. Generally, I don t associate with new
people, and when I do am reluctant to share with them. As a result of my inability to open up to new
people, I ve failed to acknowledge my feelings altogether as well. For the most part I lack a father
figure within my life, but I have accepted this reality. Comparatively my brother has played the male
role. My mom and I for the most part share a complex relationship, but it is a strong relationship all in
all.
My upbringing and circumstances are responsible for my personality. I was born in Allentown,
Pennsylvania. Up till now I have never moved, but my brother and I grew up with two homes. My
brother is only three years older than me, so we often related like peers. As a result of my parent s

The Tuna Industry And Its Effects On The Oceanic Ecosystem
This essay will focus on the bluefin tuna industry in Japan, a country which consumes the majority of
the global catch. The industry is one driven by the sudden increase in demand for sushi, a Japanese
haute food which is now consumed globally. It will also illustrate the uniqueness and important role
which the bluefin tuna plays in aquatic ecosystems throughout the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian
Oceans. Lastly, the issues of globalization and lack of market regulation will be examined as a cause
for the collapse in Atlantic bluefin fisheries. The tuna industry in Japan is having negative
environmental impacts on the oceanic ecosystem.
The Arguments
Despite the unparalleled popularity of bluefin tuna in today s sushi industry, it has not always been
this way. Sushi, prior to the mid twentieth was a luxury food eaten exclusively during special
occasions, and Japanese chefs never used to serve bluefin tuna in sushi bars (Kurokura, Takagi, Sakai,
Yagi, 2012). The tuna had too strong of a taste for the Japanese palette who preferred milder species of
fish, however this all changed post WWII. Japan underwent a rapid transformation from a war torn
state into a global economic power in a matter of decades. By 1980, Japan had become the second
largest economy in the world, following only USA (Dicken, 2011). The proliferation of the middle and
upper class in Japan equated in a greater demand for sushi in everyday diet. The 1970 s marked a new

Essay On Your Daughter Dances Flamenco
A red and black swirl, that s how it all started. I remember it like it was yesterday. My mother and I
were standing in line at a frame shop. There was a girl with a black leotard and a red flowy skirt
standing in front of us, with her mother. Your daughter dances Flamenco, right? Where does she take
classes? My mother asked the girl s mother. Next thing I remember, I was in a dance studio, staring at
a group of dancers who seemed to be flying across the room, all wearing long skirts and dance shoes. I
couldn t take my eyes off of them. I didn t know it right then, but fourteen years later, I would be able
to dance just like any of those dancers I was staring at with dreamy eyes. Practicing dance, preparing

I can relate dancing to playing in two different ways. The first one, of course, whenever I am dancing I
can certainly feel like I am playing a game. By this I don t mean that I don t take dance seriously. For
the contrary, I enjoy dance to a level where I feel just like when I am playing a videogame. Each new
step I have to learn, represents a new challenge. Once I am able to correctly perform said step, I have
to keep practicing until I can perform it perfectly, then I can move on to the next step. Once a
choreography is complete, we, as dancers, are supposed to rehearse it over and over again until we
feel as confident as we can in order to be able to perform it in the theatre. Reaching that point for me
is like defeating the boss in a Mario Bros. game. One can say the turtles, owls, and other enemies in
the game could be represented by blisters, twisted ankles, mistakes committed, and some other
challenges we may encounter while trying to master a piece of choreography.
The other way I can relate dance to play, which is kind of the most obvious one, are dance plays. Last
year, I played the role of Anastasia Romanov at the Foro de Arte y Cultura in Guadalajara, Mexico. At
some points it did, in fact, feel like I was playing pretend. I wore a costume that looked exactly like
what Anastasia wore in the animated movie and dyed my hair copper. Of course, I watched the movie

Although, the persona does state that the actual truth exists in some. Hill acknowledges that some
have not given into what society wants us to believe and have adopted their own way of thinking and
living. This is clearly proven in the poem when the author states, Light shown in darkness, image
exposed. Few can see through the new emperor s clothes (lines 13 14). Light illuminates the idea of
the truth in society. Hill alludes to new emperor s clothes, primary symbolizing lies and deception
(line 13). The persona states that few can actually see through the lies that have been provided. When
we are being lied to time after time, these lies become a part of our psyche and are then repeated and
reproduced later in time. This false belief is slowly killing the minds of society.
Fallacy is defined as deceptive appearance, guile, trickery, or false or mistaken idea (Merriam Webster
1). The persona presents the fact that we have been sucked into what the world wants us to believe.
The more we are lied to, the more we are going to be negatively affected. Moral dilemma, pride is the
root. Misguided from youth, heart divided from truth (lines 28 29).We have been taken from what is
right and thrown into the wrong. Hill is stating that we have been misguided at a very young age. Our

Inheritance In Psychology
Inheritance may play a significant role in human pain, though most of painful disorders are triggered
by known or yet unidentified environmental factors. Chronic pain provides the best illustration of the
interaction between nature and nurture when it comes to pain. Inflammatory and/or nerve damages are
suspected to be the etiology of most chronic pain syndromes like osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, or
postherpetic neuralgia, but only a small proportion of those subjected to such injuries actually develop
chronic pain, and the degree of pain severity varies a lot across patients. Genes may predispose some
to more intense or more chronic pain, but the environment, in turn, can shape the genetic effects. One

Generally, acute stress induces analgesia (found, e.g., among athletes injured in games and soldiers
injured in battle), while the effects of chronic stress in nociception are less predictable [211].
Epidemiological studies have implicated stress (psychosocial and physical) as a trigger of first onset
or exacerbation of many painful disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome [212] and low back pain
[213]. An individual s response to stress, either physical or emotional, includes activation of the
hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis, which is accomplished by the secretion of corticotrophin
releasing hormone and arginine vasopressin from the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus
[214]. There is evidence that the HPA axis is involved in acute pain and chronic pain. However, it is
unclear whether the observed HPA axis abnormalities in stress related pain syndromes such as
fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and temporomandibular disorder reflect preexisting vulnerability to
these syndromes or whether chronic somatic symptoms alter HPA axis activity

  • 2. A Dog s Tale Literary Devices But indeed it was not real education; it was only show. From A Dog s Tale by Mark Twain. He expresses his humor with his own style of writing.By using different Literary devices in his work in this text he uses a humorous tone and amusing descriptions to make the reader laugh. My father was a St.Bernard, my mother was a collie, but I am a Presbyterian. Mark Twain try s to make a humorous effect by describing how the narrator s parents are by using dog descriptions to describe their personalities. Like for example, the mother he described her as a collie, which are known to be very delicate and beautiful.Mark Twain uses personification to give human characteristics to a dog in a humorous but ironic way. My mother had a fondness for [words]; she liked to say them, and see other dogs surprised and envious, wondering how she got so much education...Whenever she heard a large word, she said it over to herself many times, and so was able to keep it until there was dogmatic gathering. Whenever his mother heard a large word she would repeat it to herself many times over until she can express it in a gathering. And successfully making them think that she is educated when she s really not she wouldn t even know the meaning of those words but says them to impress and make her neighbors envious about how ... • 3. The Use of Marijuana for Medicinal Purposes Essay The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes has long been at the centre of much controversy. Some studies have shown results that the benefits of using marijuana for medicinal reasons far outweigh the negative health matters that may be associated with its use, and therefore should be an accepted method of treatment for some patients who are suffering with illnesses such as multiple sclerosis, cancer, AIDS, and eating disorders (Okie, 2005). Still, other studies have proven that there is not enough scientific evidence on the drug, there for it should not be legalized for the use of medication (Hutchings, 2002). Currently the issue is moving forward, although not without controversy, but it is unclear when a clear decision will be made. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Chemical breakdown of cannabis, which marijuana is a herbal product of, contains many components that prove beneficial in the medical field. Parts of the medical field that these components benefit would include various neurological conditions, such as spasticity, pain or sleeping disorders. It is currently difficult to conclude whether these benefits overpower the risks that a person with a neurological disorder would be taking. However Canadian surveys have showed that in two neurological disorder cases, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy, cannabis has proven to be beneficial to symptom relief. People with these disorders using cannabis have gotten relief from both their primary symptoms and other symptoms associated with their disorders. In people with epilepsy, the severity and frequency of their seizures was reduced. In people with multiple sclerosis were found to have reduced pain and spasticity, as well as being relived from psychological symptoms caused by the disorder. Without the use of cannabis in some users, they would have a much more difficult time dealing with the symptoms of their disorders (Wingerchuk, 2004). However, there still remains a lot of opposition on the topic of medical marijuana. In the article by Doctor Reginald Hutchings, from Charlottetown P.E.I., discusses the negative side of marijuana. As a physician, Hutchings states that he will not prescribe marijuana to his patients unless he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Done Art is never finished, only abandoned. This is one of Leonardo da Vinci s famous quotes. I personally find it appealing and memorizing. This is 100% true as well! Nothing in life is ever truly finished! Leonardo da Vinci was pure genius, however not just from his quotes. He did much, much, more! Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452. He was born in Vinci Italy. His exact birthplace was in a farmhouse in the middle of the beautiful hills of Tuscany outside the village of Anchiano in what is now Italy. Leonardo da Vinci most likely spent most of his time with his uncle, Francesco, instead of his two unmarried parents. At the age of 15, Leonardo da Vinci became the apprentice of the artist Andrea del Verrocchio. Andrea del Verrocchio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He studied the field of civil engineering, and created many amazing inventions. His invention of the parachute was an international breakthrough! He also invented scissors, which also changed the world, and is nowadays used in almost every classroom and almost every household. Leonardo da Vinci also sketched up the first helicopter. He may not have built it, but he did imagaine it, and his sketch helped modern day scientists and engineers build the helicopter. Not only did Leonardo da Vinci sketch the helicopter, create the parachute, and invent the scissors, but he also built The Revolving Bridge. The Revolving Bridge was a portable bridge, used over a variety of bodies of water. It was mostly used by armies to pass over rivers, streams, and small lakes. Leonardo da Vinci originally designed it for Duke Sforza. I think that this field of science is something I would like to study because I enjoy both building and creating, and I adore art. I definitely think that if I ever become a scientist, this would be the field of science I would enjoy! I spend most of my time drawing and building, much like Leonardo da Vinci did. And it just so happens that I ve always had an eye for science, and it seems to be my best subject. I hope that maybe, just maybe, one day, I will be just as good as artist as Leonardo da Vinci. So as I conclude my essay, I would like to say just one more genius quote by Leonardo da Vinci ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Non-Cell Autonomous Tumor Supression by p53 Non Cell Autonomous Tumor Suppression by p53 Introduction and significance for the entire manuscript (Guide: approx one quarter page/150 words). The p53 is a vital tumour suppressor protein in humans which is important for cell cycle regulation. Ablation of the p53 protein causes the cell to proliferate infinitely that contributes to the development of tumours. Through the cell autonomous program the cell cycle arrest and apoptosis is caused by the presence of p53. The aim of the journal is to study cellular senescence program in hepatic stellate cells that is p53 dependent which is formed by dying hepatocytes which secret factors that influence the tissue microenvironment, preventing fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer via promoting p53 senescent in these HSCs. The research objectives explain that fibrosis is limited through the p53 mediated senescence program by stopping HSC proliferation through cell autonomous canonical senescence regulators and the non cell autonomous effects of SASP on ECM and immune surveillance. Currently there is a debate on the role p53 plays in HSCs which influences later stages of liver cancer and the research exhibits that through non cell autonomous mechanisms, p53 can inhibit cancer by manipulating the tissue microenvironment. Key Figure (Guide: approx one half page/400 words). Figure 5 is the key figure in this journal. • 7. Creon Antigone Analysis In Antigone, Creon s mind is pulled in two opposite directions: His hubris, and, in contrast, his human duty to the gods. His decision to not follow the gods decrees and the consequences of that decision are used by Sophocles to remind the audience to stand with the gods. Creon, the King of Thebes, produced a law in lines 222 228 that a man named Polynices could not be buried, a law that he knew was in direct opposition to a law of the gods. When Antigone tried to follow the gods law by burying Polynices, Creon had her locked up. Creon would have known the laws of the gods, being Grecian perhaps even better than most, being an educated man however, he made the law anyway. Sophocles example through Creon gives the audience an example of deliberate disobedience and how easy it is to affront the gods, even if it seems like the honorable thing to do. And Creon did think this; because Polynices was a traitor, Creon was opposed to honoring him with burial, so inducting the law that he could not be into society. Nobility notwithstanding, this law was against the gods. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Creon instructs Tiresius (1152 1158) that not even the gods could stop his resolve to lock up Antigone and leave Polynices corpse exposed. However, when his son, Haemon (1296), as well as his wife, Eurydice (1412 1414), kill themselves because of Creon s decisions, he has a complete reversal in attitude. Despite the attempt to right his wrongs (1235 1239), admitting that he could not best or control the gods, Creon received punishments, his crimes against the gods too great. Sophocles exaggerates the everyday occurrence of going against the gods to the audience sin order for them to learn from Creon s example, telling them that the consequences will always find ... The other pyramids are Pyramid of Numbers, which show how many of the creature per trophic level and Pyramid of Energy which shows how much total energy is available at each trophic level. When fossil fuels are burnt, the c02 is released into the atmosphere rapidly, and the c02 cycle doesn t have enough time to get the c02 out of the atmosphere. This c02 traps the heat from coming out of the atmosphere and creates global warming. Global warming is serious because it melts the ice cap, removes habitas, raises sea levels and many other negative effects. A good way to stop this environmental hazard is to use green energy. Instead of burning coal and natural gas, we can use more wind turbines, hydro electric dams and other green electricity options. We also need to research solar panels more, so we can make them more efficiant. If we start to do this, the c02 outtake would be significantly decreased and the world will be a better place to live ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Life Worthy Of The Calling You Have Received Live a life worthy of the calling you have received (Ephesians 4:1). In a world where Christianity is becoming more unusual, it is important for those who are Christians to possess traits such as maturity, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness. Unfortunately, sometimes these traits are taken over by our sinfulness. Sin is the rebellion against the divine law of God. As we look at sin today, we see it as a system of ranking, however God sees all sin as equal. Knowing this, it becomes critical that we don t conform to what society does. Some sinful behaviors that people should be more educated about are sex outside of marriage, homosexuality, and sarcasm. As sex becomes more exposed in society, there are many controversial topics. Sex to some is considered personal and private, while others believe sex is seductive and it sell. In a survey by The National Health and Social Life it was discovered that many people say that married sex is the most satisfying. This interesting finds brings up the topic of God s design for sex. God says that sex is for a complimentary pair, meaning a man and a woman. God also designed sex to be inside a permanent union. God created sex for procreation, pleasure, and bonding. The sexual revolution of the 1960s completely changed what sex looked like in society. Sex was detached from procreation, marriage, gender, and most importantly God. This sexual revolution trend still continues today. Many people have sex outside of marriage, and for some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Leadership From A Natural Sciences Standpoint There have been many studies and papers written about leadership by looking at all sorts of perspectives. More recently, researchers have started to look at the keys to leadership from a natural sciences standpoint. The world is starting to understand that our views of leadership in organizations have to be consistent with the nature of the world outside. Richard Wielkiewicz and Stephen Stelzner go so far to say that the key to effective leadership is by looking at and having a fair representation of all perspectives, that includes an environmental perspective. They not only give assertions about leadership as a whole, but they also give criteria for looking at leadership from an ecological standpoint as to better understand it. In the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A third assertion says organizations are more adaptive when diversity of input is present. This is an easy statement to understand. If people with different backgrounds give input, there will be a wider range of thoughts and ideas. If an organization takes these diverse perspectives into account, they will be better able to adapt to changing thoughts and societal norms. The final assertion given is related to Wheatley s notion of new and old science. Wheatley suggests that old science is a mechanistic view that is no longer relatable and that her idea of new science is one that needs to be followed (Wheatley, 2006, pg. 15). On the other hand, Wielkiewicz and Stelzner say that instead of just rejecting old science, there should be a tension between the two approaches. One needs to find a resolution between the traditional industrial approach and the lesser known neglected ecological approach . There are four ecological principles than can help explain organizational leadership. They are interdependence, open systems and feedback loops, the cycling of resources, and adaptation. By looking at each principle, one can relate it back to their organization and hopefully be able to integrate the things learned with previous notions in order to make leadership more efficient. • 11. Describe Emerson s Idea Of Self-Reliance Analysis of Self Reliance 1. Describe Emerson s idea of self reliance in your own words. To what extent do you agree or disagree with his philosophy? Would you consider yourself to be self reliant and to what degree? Emerson s idea of self reliance is that a person must seek truth above all else in life, or else their life has been wasted. To find truth a person must not listen or be bothered by the opinions of others, form their own opinions and not just adopt whatever may be popular at the time, not change their purpose in life to fit someone else s expectations of what it should be, and above all to seek your own individual truth without conforming to what the world believes or wants to change you into. I agree with Emerson that a person should find their own reason for living, and that that purpose should drive their actions and intentions, I also agree that other people s opinions on what you should do with your own life should be ignored. However, I disagree with Emerson on his idea that a person should not be bound to what they have said in the past, and that you should have no regard for consistency of actions or words. I believe that a person should be consistent in their words in actions, or else they are not being authentic to themselves. I also do not agree with Emerson in that if a person conforms at all to societal views or pressures that everything they say or do will be false because one portion of their beliefs is borrowed from the world. I believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unlike Jutras study of NHIMA band musicians who practiced 3.75 hours per week, Coffman s (2008) NHIMA band members practiced 7 hours per week. The SF 36v2 Health Survey revealed that participants reported NHIMA benefited them by 74% overall well being, 24% physical well being, 21% cognitive stimulation, and 20% socialization (see Table 2.2). The differences between Jutras (2011) NHIMA study and Coffman s (2008) NHIMA study are motivation to learn music, and practicing instruments daily in preparation of rehearsals, which is standard practice for preparation of community concerts. Perhaps Coffman s (2008) musicians were more serious in developing their music competency skills and thereby achieved higher levels of brain activity. Whereas, Jutras (2011) musicians would fit the definition of health care patients or as Gates (1991) described them as recreationalists or as Stebbins (1992) described individuals as amateurs, volunteers, hobbyists, and dabblers. As the authors identified, participants lacked the motivation to play their instruments at home in preparation for band rehearsals, which are preparatory for music concerts. • 14. The One with the Three Parts of Freuds Psyche The One with the Three Parts of Freud s Psyche According to Sigmund Freud, every human has three parts of their personalities. One part is the id: the part of a person that is pleasure driven. It is the part of the personality structure that runs on instinctual desires. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is superego. Superego is the section of one s personality that is only concerned with others opinions and must have perfect behavior in order to please others. Finally there is ego, the reality of one s personality. It is what one actually does to try to please both extremes of their personality. Though everyone has parts of each within them, some people have one part of their personality outshine the others. In the tv series Friends , directed by Robby Benson, the three parts of the psyche are demonstrated through the three main characters Chandler, Ross and Joey. Joey Tribbiani represents the id, he lives by the pleasure principle and is concerned primarily with immediate gratification. Ross clearly corresponds with the ego and operates on the reality principle. While he certainly likes the same pleasurable things as Joey, he derives his satisfaction through more realistic long term means. Lastly, Chandler completes the set representing the superego. He internalizes cultural norms and expectations which realizes the feeling of guilt or shame. Although poetry and prose greatly differs from each other, there are many similarities between them. Prose is defined to be in an ordinary form, but prose can share some poetic qualities such as literary devices, imagery, and theme, and many more. Tim O Brien s Things They Carried depicts a fragmented stories about his and other soldiers experiences that occurred in the Vietnam War. Similarly, the poem, Facing It shows a soldier who returns to the Memorial of the Vietnam War where he recalls his own trauma in the war as he looks at the stones. Both the prose, Things They Carried and the poem, Facing it conveys the similar theme where they are struggling to overcome the trauma of the war and face the reality. However, the style and the form that the poem and the prose is depicted differs from each other. The main theme of The Things They Carried is how O Brien utilizes the strategy of storytelling in order to transcend the reality so that he can convey the truths of his and other soldiers traumatic experiences. Brownfield refers to sites that have previously been occupied by a permanent structure, greenfield to virgin land. A governmental target has been set for 60% of new housing to be sited on brownfield areas. As the risk of flooding is expected to increase due to climate change, there can be a conflict between the desire to build on flood safe areas and to utilise brownfield sites, as many of the latter are situated in areas known to be at risk from flooding. Another problem is that the greatest need for new housing is in the South East, whereas more available brownfield land is located in the North due to the decline of heavy industry. The tuna had too strong of a taste for the Japanese palette who preferred milder species of fish, however this all changed post WWII. Japan underwent a rapid transformation from a war torn state into a global economic power in a matter of decades. By 1980, Japan had become the second largest economy in the world, following only USA (Dicken, 2011). The proliferation of the middle and upper class in Japan equated in a greater demand for sushi in everyday diet. The 1970 s marked a new epoch in sushi culture as the quest for ... • 33. Essay On Your Daughter Dances Flamenco A red and black swirl, that s how it all started. I remember it like it was yesterday. My mother and I were standing in line at a frame shop. There was a girl with a black leotard and a red flowy skirt standing in front of us, with her mother. Your daughter dances Flamenco, right? Where does she take classes? My mother asked the girl s mother. Next thing I remember, I was in a dance studio, staring at a group of dancers who seemed to be flying across the room, all wearing long skirts and dance shoes. I couldn t take my eyes off of them. I didn t know it right then, but fourteen years later, I would be able to dance just like any of those dancers I was staring at with dreamy eyes. Practicing dance, preparing dance plays and performances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I can relate dancing to playing in two different ways. The first one, of course, whenever I am dancing I can certainly feel like I am playing a game. By this I don t mean that I don t take dance seriously. For the contrary, I enjoy dance to a level where I feel just like when I am playing a videogame. Each new step I have to learn, represents a new challenge. Once I am able to correctly perform said step, I have to keep practicing until I can perform it perfectly, then I can move on to the next step. Once a choreography is complete, we, as dancers, are supposed to rehearse it over and over again until we feel as confident as we can in order to be able to perform it in the theatre. Reaching that point for me is like defeating the boss in a Mario Bros. game. One can say the turtles, owls, and other enemies in the game could be represented by blisters, twisted ankles, mistakes committed, and some other challenges we may encounter while trying to master a piece of choreography. The other way I can relate dance to play, which is kind of the most obvious one, are dance plays. Last year, I played the role of Anastasia Romanov at the Foro de Arte y Cultura in Guadalajara, Mexico. At some points it did, in fact, feel like I was playing pretend. I wore a costume that looked exactly like what Anastasia wore in the animated movie and dyed my hair copper. Of course, I watched the movie probably a hundred times trying to ... Riche Jr. English 102.036 Professor Dubose March 10th 2010 The Observation of Global Deception: A Persuasive Essay on Lauryn Hill s Motives and Thoughts Edward George Bulwer Lytton once said, When the world has got hold of a lie, it is astonishing how hard it is to kill it. You can beat it over the head, till it seems to have given up the ghost and behold! The next day it is as healthy as ever (53). Lauryn Hill, an astounding singer, actress, musician and above all artist, who has produced many brilliant and masterful works of art in her career. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although, the persona does state that the actual truth exists in some. Hill acknowledges that some have not given into what society wants us to believe and have adopted their own way of thinking and living. This is clearly proven in the poem when the author states, Light shown in darkness, image exposed. Few can see through the new emperor s clothes (lines 13 14). Light illuminates the idea of the truth in society. Hill alludes to new emperor s clothes, primary symbolizing lies and deception (line 13). The persona states that few can actually see through the lies that have been provided. When we are being lied to time after time, these lies become a part of our psyche and are then repeated and reproduced later in time. This false belief is slowly killing the minds of society. Fallacy is defined as deceptive appearance, guile, trickery, or false or mistaken idea (Merriam Webster 1). The persona presents the fact that we have been sucked into what the world wants us to believe. The more we are lied to, the more we are going to be negatively affected. Moral dilemma, pride is the root. Misguided from youth, heart divided from truth (lines 28 29).We have been taken from what is right and thrown into the wrong. Hill is stating that we have been misguided at a very young age. Our minds and hearts have been separated from what is right in the world. Lacan s Model of the Psyche can be directly related to how the persona feels about this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Inheritance In Psychology Inheritance may play a significant role in human pain, though most of painful disorders are triggered by known or yet unidentified environmental factors. Chronic pain provides the best illustration of the interaction between nature and nurture when it comes to pain. Inflammatory and/or nerve damages are suspected to be the etiology of most chronic pain syndromes like osteoarthritis, diabetic neuropathy, or postherpetic neuralgia, but only a small proportion of those subjected to such injuries actually develop chronic pain, and the degree of pain severity varies a lot across patients. Genes may predispose some to more intense or more chronic pain, but the environment, in turn, can shape the genetic effects. One of the most important environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, acute stress induces analgesia (found, e.g., among athletes injured in games and soldiers injured in battle), while the effects of chronic stress in nociception are less predictable [211]. Epidemiological studies have implicated stress (psychosocial and physical) as a trigger of first onset or exacerbation of many painful disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome [212] and low back pain [213]. An individual s response to stress, either physical or emotional, includes activation of the hypothalamic pituitary adrenal (HPA) axis, which is accomplished by the secretion of corticotrophin releasing hormone and arginine vasopressin from the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus [214]. There is evidence that the HPA axis is involved in acute pain and chronic pain. However, it is unclear whether the observed HPA axis abnormalities in stress related pain syndromes such as fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and temporomandibular disorder reflect preexisting vulnerability to these syndromes or whether chronic somatic symptoms alter HPA axis activity ... • 37. A Volleyball Story Side out, side out! You got this! The crowd s roaring chant is a broken record on full blast. All of a sudden, my ears deafen and my heart races. My hands are moist and my throat is dry. Perspiration slowly trails down my face as I glance at the red and blue scoreboard. The score reads 12 13. My team, Beach Vibes 14 1 has been going back and forth with Texas team, Magic 14 1 for more than an hour. Both teams won one set, and now Magic is in the lead by one point. This is such a long and exhausting game! I think frantically, mentally talking to myself. Focus, Taeah, focus. I try locking my weary eyes on the tall server but the towering middle blocker with a wingspan of an eagle and the outside blocker with enhanced biceps were partially blocking my view. The server serves a powerful topspin jump serve towards Karlee, but the short, lighting fast defensive specialist dives forward to pass the ball. It was a perfect pass, going directly to the petite hands of our skilled setter, Erica. She sets me on zone 4. Leaping into the air like a graceful ballerina, I pull my right arm back to load. When my hand contacts the ball, I slam it at an open hard angle, zone 4. My team and I cheer hysterically. I hear a loud, Do it again! in the crowd, and I turn to see my mother with proud eyes and a permanent smile plastered across her face staring intently at me. The score now shows 13 13. Everyone rotates, and Erica serves a fast, float serve. Number 24 shanks the ball, scoring us a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The China Men Analysis Maxine Hong Kingston s The China Men is a historical record of the events that had taken place in the West coast of the oppression and racism faced by Chinese immigrants and their struggle to gain the rights and citizenship of Americans. As recorded here, the most critical attack by the U.S. government to the rights of Chinese immigrants were the Chinese Exclusion acts which banned the entry of Chinese and also denied the Chinese who were already in the country the rights of citizens. As can be seen with the case of Chae Chan Ping, the denying of liberty was done by the branch of government which is meant to call out the other branches on their abuses of power and abuses of the Constitution. Instead, they carried out their own racially biased ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Essay on Setting Up a McDonald s In Chad Chad is an ethnically diverse African country that also happens to be one of the poorest countries in Africa. Chad gained its independence from France in 1960 after a sixty year rule. There are several national cultures in Chad that are based on ethnoregional and religious affiliations. There are more than 200 ethnic groups in Chad, and those in the north and east are typically Muslim; most southerners are Animists and Christians. Through their long religious and commercial relationships with Sudan and Egypt, many of the people in Chad s eastern and central regions have become more or less Arabized, speaking Arabic and engaging in many other Arab cultural practices as well (Azevedo, Graham, and Nnadozie, 1997). Due to there lack of money they are forced to eat groundnut oil residue, which is usually fed to goats, which only cost eighteen cents (Clarke, 2010). Chad s economic performance depends on rainfall, because of the types of goods they export. Chad also has a narrow commercial base. Since independence, both Chad s internal and external markets remain undeveloped; therefore, the nation never succeeded in developing a successful commercial export economy. Chad s economy has long been troubled by its landlocked position, and high energy cost (Azevedo, Graham, and Nnadozie, 1997). They are also still feeling the effects of the years of civil war they were engaged in. Chad has poor transportation, inadequate natural resources, and continue to have political turmoil that has severely stunted their economic development. They are also highly dependent on foreign assistance to help their economy. Their economy is so bad that they are constantly in need of food aid to meet the hunger needs of their people. Chad s cultural structures are diverse due to the great variety of people who live in Chad, and many different languages spoken there. Chad is a semi nomadic Arab culture. Arabs make up one third of the population, and they live in tribes which are known as the Kishimbet (Rosensweig, 2001). The Kishimet is headed by an elder who is called the Shaykh.
