Southwest Asia
Southwest Asia is the term geographers use when referring to the Middle East. Middle East is a
political term coined by the British in the 1930 s to distinguish the region from both the Far East,
which included China, Japan and Indochina, and the Near East, which included portions of Western
Europe. All of these areas are truly only east of Europe. In order to emphasize a more global
perspective, geographers prefer to use the politically neutral term Southwest Asia because it does not
connote a Western European bias.

In English, kebab with no qualification generally refers more specifically to shish kebab served on the
skewer. In the Middle East, however, kebab includes grilled, roasted, and stewed dishes of large or
small cuts of meat, or even ground meat; it may be served on plates, in sandwiches, or in bowls.
The traditional meat for kebab is lamb, but depending on local tastes and taboos, it may now be beef,
goat, chicken, pork; fish and seafood; or even vegetarian foods like falafel or tofu. Like other ethnic
foods brought by travelers, the kebab has become part of everyday cuisine in many countries around

The Civil Rights Of The United States Essay
The United states has been called the, Land of The Free since its independence was won from Great
Britain, however, until 1965 Free only applied to a select demographic, white, land owning males. The
most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so today is the African
American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were introduced into the colony of
Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in 1831 slavery was finally abolished and
all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help these newly freed slaves begin their new lives
2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose from this new found freedom and the struggle didn
t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the founding of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and
several supreme court cases, that African American finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after
these several legal advancements and many different civil rights movements the playing field, after
many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven and the day by day struggles continued. Even today,
396 years later, there are still racial bias and inequalities toward the African American community.
While in the past or present changes have been and are being made by either the executive, legislative,
or judicial branch to help African Americans achieve universal freedom and equality, but it is unclear

The Importance Of Education In The 1920 s
The 1920 s was an extravagant decade in American history. Many people had bought new items, such
as radios, and played the stock market without worrying about the loans they used for the new items
and stock market. The 1920 s also brought about change in the United States, such as women s
suffrage and Prohibition. Despite Prohibition making the consumption and possession of alcohol
illegal, many people went to speakeasies to drink alcohol. The government could not effectively
control the drug and alcohol use in the 1920 s, but it did have control over education. With the
government s ability to control education, it gained importance and attention in the 1920 s.
The 1920 s was an important time in education. The decision in the Scopes trial ... Show more content

institution increased to 755 students per institution and 2165 students per public institution (Goldin et.

Public institutions in 1924 had five times the amount of students they had in 1897. Ten years later,

There was a need for the people to gather like this because Marcos famous implementation of Martial
Law led to the deaths of several thousands of Filipinos. This regulation suspended several of the rights
of the Filipinos and granted Marcos the free use of military power, which he did, against any who
opposed him. The act of civil disobedience, which was basically exemplified through the People
Power Revolution, also brings in with itself, some benefits and detriments. The benefit to this is that
one may get the opportunity he/she is asking for through the resistance formed against the government
like the People Power Revolution. The Filipinos here managed to non violently get what they were
longing for such a time, which was a fair and honest president that soon was elected and was named
Cory Aquino. Now, in the downside of committing civil disobedience, one may find it by relating back
to the revolution that took place in the Philippines. If perhaps Marcos pushed through with an all out
attack against his people, regardless of what the foreign entities would have done about it, millions of
Filipinos would have gotten hurt and died as a result. Even though civil disobedience is an act of
nonviolence, it is still considered as resistance and the people know that Marcos wasn t a fan of any

Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine
Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine relate the same story, yet from quite
different angles. Sophocles play is written in heightened language and spends 1,530 lines on an hour
of time. On the other hand, Cocteau s characters speak colloquially, and his 96 pages cover 17 years,
putting much more emphasis on the events prior to where Sophocles begins his play. Sophocles and
Cocteau present Oedipus character in different lights, and through these characters express contrary
themes. Sophocles proud yet wise Oedipus reveals that a human s future is determined by his actions,
while Cocteau s haughty yet immature Oedipus suggests that mortals ... Show more content on

Sophocles Oedipus is a clever man and a sage ruler. Unfortunately, he thinks too much of himself and
believes that he knows better than the gods.
Cocteau s Oedipus lacks wisdom and behaves in a silly manner. The Infernal Machine presents
Cocteau s vision of what transpired between Oedipus and the Sphinx. In this version, the sphinx
blindly chooses Oedipus to be Thebes savior and even answers the riddle for him. She picks him
because she has a crush on him and is bored with her job. This Oedipus becomes king out of luck and
rules very much like a child. All this Oedipus strives for is action, adventure. (Cocteau, Infernal
Machine, p.45) Even the Sphinx says, The fool! He understood nothing. (Cocteau, Infernal Machine,
p. 53) Of course, by not understanding what transpired with the sphinx, Cocteau s Oedipus believes
himself to be a genius and an able ruler. Of course he can not
even make it through his nightmares without the support of Jocasta, his wife/mother.

Rossetti s Influence On The Art Nouveau Movement
Starting from the year 1862, Rossetti started to paint mainly large, female figures, sensuous and
dramatic. Lots of famous Rossetti s paintings, were inspired by his red haired wife and major muse
Jane. Casting the girl that was probably not considered as beautiful at that times, started to change the
understanding of beauty everyone had. His perception of beauty influenced the European Symbolists,
making him a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement. His influence can be sensed even in the
famous Czech artist Alphonse Mucha s work. But how could Rossetti s P.R.M. artwork be influential
to Art Nouveau movement artist? To start with, Alphonse Mucha (1860 1939), Czech artist, is best
known for his posters depicting beautiful women. He worked in variety of media including printing,
painting, jewelry, furniture and even more. Mucha did not like the fact that he was associated with Art
Noveau, and preferred the word movement . Like Rossetti s, majority of Mucha s work are portraits of
stunning females. He searched for inspiration from Czech traditions and artwork he grew up on. This
allows to speculate that Rossetti was one of them, as Mucha was not afraid of learning or trying new
things. The movement Art Nouveau started in the 1800 s, London, and was the artistic rebellion that
promoted freedom, desire to get rid of distinction between low and high art, to bring art to everyday
life, to allow poor people to have the same artworks that rich people decorated their

Healthcare Regulation The pharmaceutical industry is one of the most heavily regulated of all
industries and Pfizer is a global US based pharmaceutical company and in the pharmaceutical industry

regulatory bodies focus on the manufacturer, drug sellers, and prescribing to physicians process.

government regulatory requirements. The drug company must get market approval and show it safe
for human consumption through animal and human testing and prove it is effective for the illness and
its intentions to alleviate. The scientific community established a four phase method to establish
effectiveness. First phase is animal and toxicity studies, second phase is the investigational new drug
application filed to test small numbers of human and allow transportation of unapproved drugs.
Thirdly, a large scale trials conducted with thousands of patients proves the product is effective against

Disadvantages Of Industrial Revolution
What is an Industrial Revolution? An Industrial Revolution is a transition to new manufacturing
processes and an event when society shifts from using basic hand tools to powered machinery or
mechanical factories to make products. This new system developed a mass production of
manufactured goods, a variety of products and improved the standard of living for many. The
Industrial Revolution changed the lives of people around the world throughout history.
The Industrial Revolution first began during the 18th century in Great Britain where it had great
deposits of coal and iron ore that proved essential for industrialization (Ashton, 1997). Britain s

The World Of The War Propaganda By Alice Goldfarb Marquis
At the beginning of the war, the British army relied on volunteers to swell the ranks, which
propaganda facilitated. Newspaper articles were one of the main forms of media that spread British
pro war propaganda. Alice Goldfarb Marquis writes that the articles were seen as powerful movers of
men and women; they became mobilizers of the national spirit, calls to courage, to sacrifice and,
finally, to simple endurance (467). This statement portrays the general message of all articles: the men
must have courage and be ready to make sacrifices for the greater good of their country. Describing
the journalists as powerful movers of men and women (467) demonstrates journalists abilities to
empower the British people to enter the war. Journalists were at the forefront of creating propaganda
and influencing people to take action. Marquis describes the role of the journalist as an engineer of
souls playing on the whole keyboard of human instincts... to incite action , and employing a
tremendous apparatus the press (467). Referring to the journalists as engineers of souls, (467) makes it
clear that the journalists had the ability to manipulate the people, and in this case, the journalists were
inclined to incite action, (467) highlighting the ability of their articles to motivate people to take up
arms. Furthermore, with access to the press, journalists were allowed to quickly circulate their articles
around the country, allowing them to swiftly engineer the masses at

Pine Island Glacier is the Largest Sheet of Ice on Earch
Pine island Glacier is an enormous stream of ice flowing west northwest along the south of Hudson
mountains into the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica. This ice sheet is the largest chunk of ice on planet
Earth having a volume of a water equivalent to 57m of the global sea level. Hence, this basin has the
largest net contribution of ice to the sea in the world. In the past few decades, the pine island glacier
has been melting at an irreversible rate. Studies show that the ground line of the glacier has retreated
10 kilometres and is in the process of touching a 40 kilometre retreat. The glacier has been losing
approximately 20 billion tons of ice each year for the past quarter of the century and is estimated to
lose four times the ice in the coming quarter.
As said by a glaciologist with France s Grenoble Alps University, Gael Durand, the glacier has started
a phase of self sustained retreat and will continue its decline. The loss of ice from the glacier at this
rate would cause disasters and hence is the latest issue of climatic concern.
It has played a significant role in the rise of the global sea level. It is predicted that at this rate, the
glacier will alone increase the sea level by another centimetre in the next 20 years. The thinning of the
ice in West Antarctica contributes to 10% of the rise in the sea level today. The most recent
acceleration has been monotonic. The warm water flows above the marine ridge which results in
melting of the thick ice which comes out of

Identity Formation
It is important to understand that immigration experiences are very personal and unique. There are
many different factors that play a role when immigrating to the United States, such as educational
challenges, family separations, and acculturation to say the least. Each individual has a different story.
However, for the most part the process of adapting to a new culture means creating a new identity in
order to feel welcomed into the new culture. There may be specific events that happen to different
families or individuals that make the transition and new identity formation more difficult than others.

Phrasing Trauma In Cynthia Ozick s The Shawl
Phrasing Trauma: Ozick s The Shawl Few topics still carry a stronger resonance than that of the
experiences of those who were sent to concentration camps during the Holocaust. Cynthia Ozick tells
a deeply moving story about one woman s experience being sent to and surviving in a camp in The
Shawl . It is an intimate look at a mother s love for her daughters in the face of evil both from outside
and within their family. The diction of The Shawl is heavily influenced by the mental state of its main
character. The story s perspective, although third person, is focused on Rosa and told in a way that is
representative of her trauma. In this way, Ozick s specific dictional choices enhance the reader s
emotional connection with Rosa. By using convoluted and indirect diction ... Show more content on

As is often the case in trauma fiction, The Shawl is an attempt to convey to the reader an emotional

and her pencil legs and balloonish belly and zigzag arms splashed against the fence, the steel voices
went mad in their growling, urging Rosa to run and run to the spot where Magda had fallen from her
flight against the electrical fence; (Ozick 248). Steel voices, zigzag arms, splashed : none of these
phrases seem to describe Magda or what happened to her in any meaningful way. It is the nonsensical
nature of Ozick s diction, however, that make the reader uneasy. By choosing diction that doesn t

The Great Pyramid Of Giza
Giza, an area located southwest of what is now known as Cairo, is home to one of the most
astonishing and mysterious feats of architecture ever assembled, The Great Pyramid. Located
approximately 5 miles west of the Nile River near the city of Cairo, Egypt, The Great Pyramid is part
of a larger complex called the Giza Necropolis, which also houses the Great Sphinx, and two smaller
pyramids. It is said to have been built by the enslaved citizens of Khufu, second ruler of the 4th
dynasty, and son of Snefru. Although archaeologists have since disproved that theory. The pyramids
are said to have been built to house the deceased bodies of the pharaohs after they have transitioned
into the after life. However, there is no evidence of this being the case. There are many questions
surrounding the Pyramids of Giza, some of which, might not ever be answered. Subsequently,
archaeologists, engineers, scientists and Egyptologists have been able to provide some very logical
theories to try and answer these questions.
Built between 2589 BC and 2504 BC for pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Pyramids of
Giza are the only ones of the original structures of the Seven Wonders of the World that still stand.
There were eight major feats of engineering involved in the construction of the pyramid. First, the
builders had to level the foundation and cut a 6,000 hectare bedrock to fit the strangely shaped slabs of
stone. Each stone at the foundation of the pyramid totaled the approximate

Pros And Cons Of College Tuition
College tuition should not be free in any means necessary. Students would not take college seriously if
there was no price. College students would totally take advantage of the opportunity to go to college
for free and completely blow it , it would even the playing field for everyone to be equal because
college tuition is what keeps everyone else out. College would then be accessible to anyone who
wanted to go. Tuition is put in place for a reason. It shouldn t be lifted because if it is the government
will end up having to come out of more money to fund the things that more of the college students
need as such as books, computer labs etc. By the government needing more funding that would mean
the taxpayers taxes would have to increase without their say so it wouldn t even be an option.
According to dissent magazine, Bruenig (2015 ) states The main problem with free college is that
most students come from disproportionately well off backgrounds and already enjoy
disproportionately well off futures, which makes them relatively uncompelling targets for public
transfers with that being stated . I feel like no one should get a free handout especially those who are
of the well off status. Why should they get everything so easy? Make them work for it. By making
tuition free you would just basically be handing them a degree without having to work hard for it.
when there is money at hand, (tuition) college is taken seriously. Can you imagine how would society
be impacted if tuition be free. The world be equal because the playing field would be neutral territory.
Everyone would be granted the same opportunity to earn money at a higher pay rate and looked upon
with great gratitude just for receiving a degree. Colleges would be extremely too crowded, resources
would be extremely scarce as far as paper, textbooks, etc. referring to Bruenig (2015) Given these
class based differences in attendance levels, institutional selection, and current student benefit levels,
making college free for everyone would almost certainly mean giving far more money to students
from richer families than from poorer ones . This statement is totally correct. Why would we put more
money in the pockets of those who are well off?. In

Impact Of The Enlightenment Of Witch Hunt
The Enlightenment of Witch Hunt and The Change of New England Society
Many people may have heard of Witch Hunt, but only a very small number of people really
understand the reason behind the comical history. The 17th century New England was in change. At
that time, the traditional way of dealing with things, the means of facing dissension and the laws and
rules of the new era caused a dramatic tension: the confrontation between judicial system and tradition
mode. In the past, people s methods of dealing with difficult things tended to appeal to supernatural
powers, which led to the truth distored or buried. The emergence of the judicial system had greatly
challenged this traditional method. By reading Escaping Salem we can feel the transformation process.
The story of Witch Hunt in Escaping Salem is not complicated. A maid named Kate was suddenly mad
out of unknown reason and says she is bewtiched. Gradually the neighbors begin to believe that Kate
was indeed bewitched. At the same time, Kate begins to name three suspected witch names, two of
whom are tried. The villagers of the story do not play the role of fools. There is a sharp contrast
between the scholars who graduated from famous universites and the ordinary villagers. For example,
John Bishop was an educated and experienced man of God: he had graduated from Oxford in 1632
(26). However, he and his friend who is a pastor, believe that Kate is bewitched without doubt. This
example shows the division of society at that

The Islamic Religion Of Islam
The Islamic religion according to the Quran, is supposed to be a nonviolent religion that promotes
peace to others and especially people of there own religion. The way that the Islamic religion is now is
much different than it was in the past based on the Quran. During the times we studied in class, the
Muslims were very obeying of their ruler and their religion. An example of proper loyalty shown by
the Muslims is during the crusades. In today s society, people continue to break the rules of the Quran
through terrorism. Terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and Isis are two examples of Islamic terrorist
organizations. Since the time we studied in class, the Islamic religion has turned to a much more
violent religion The Quran is the most sacred document to the Islamic people and basically tells them
the way that they need to live. The Quran forces Islamic people to obey the Five Pillars of Faith .
These pillars include declaring the creed, which is There is no god but God, and Muhammad is his
Prophet. They also have to pray five times a day facing the sacred city of Mecca, give alms to the poor
in the community, fast each day during the month of Ramadan (the ninth month of the year), and make
a hajj, which is a pilgrimage to Mecca once in their lifetime (Spodek 348). The Quran also directly

Stereotyping In Sports
Highly hyped teams will often have shorter odds mainly due to the fact so many people are betting on
them, but if you are a veteran gambler, you will know that the odds a bookie gives and the hype
surrounding a team is not a key indicator of success. Here are five questions you should ask yourself
prior to placing mobile betting soccer bets on hyped teams (especially if you are planning to stake a
lot of money).
Spend Some Time Watching Their Older Matches
You can often pull up older soccer games on the Internet. It is worth having a watch to see how well
they fair. Is the hype justified based on their in game play? When you watch their matches, are you
seeing things that justify the hype the team are receiving? Remember that some teams ... Show more

They may have entered the pitch with their heads held high, but it only takes a few dangerous shots
from the opposing team to quash their moral and enthusiasm. The hyped team may have been
expecting an easier game than the one they are getting. If you see the opposing team continue to apply
pressure, you could do worse than place an in play bet on the opposing team.
Question 5 Is The Opposing Team Overdue A Dramatic Win?
If you watch a lot of team sports, be it basketball, hockey, rugby, football, or whatever, you will notice
that some teams seem to pull off dramatic comebacks when nobody expects them.
A team can start with pre season games and start their season with a terrible run, and then out of
nowhere they suddenly start winning relentlessly. Do not underestimate the potential of the opposing
team because of their track record. In addition, do not underestimate them because the hyped team is
drawing all the attention. As a long time soccer watcher, you should know that some teams can
suddenly become fantastic overnight. It even happens in games sometimes. There are times when a
team is a mess on the pitch, and then suddenly pulls it together for no

Sex Workers and Violence Essay
It is self evident that financial reasons for sex work are most prominent. Surprisingly near to 40%
indicate that they like this kind of work. About one third of the women are offering sex services for
altruistic reasons, as they want to help. Thus, sex work obviously also serves very personal reasons;
sex work can enhance self esteem, allow the person to be their own master give a feeling of power
(pg. 149).
In a study performed by Koken (2012), the researcher approaches prostitution as a form of paid labor
that women may choose to engage in under circumstances ranging from the luxurious to the destitute.
Results from the study showed that women articulated feelings of pride about their work, their body,
and their ability to use sex work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of this stigmatization from the police, community and law system, sex workers know they
will receive no protection from the police and must therefore take their safety into their own hands.
Either by accepting the risks and going out on the streets anyway, or by carrying a weapon, like mace
or a knife, and possibly facing charges if the weapon were discovered by the police. In other parts of
the world, where prostitution is legal, sex workers face less violence and therefore feel less fear about
working in their industry. Apparently, there is evidence that some systems of legalization provide a
relatively safe working environment. Although no system is risk free, women working in legal
brothels and window units in the Netherlands experience very little violence. Workers and managers
have instituted elaborate procedures to respond to violent customers quickly and effectively, in
Nevada s legal brothels, the risk of violence is very low (ProCon.org, 2013)
So, when prostitution is legalized, controlled and, more importantly, monitored, it becomes less of a

Synthesis and Reactivity of tert butyl Chloride via an Sn1 Reaction
Copeland 1
Introduction/Background
Substitution reactions are important chemical processes that contribute to the production of new
compounds. Simplistically, these reactions take place through a series of steps in which one functional
group is replaced by another (March). There are two types of nucleophilic substitution reactions, first
order and second order, but this experiment only involves the Sn1 first order reactions. Sn1 reactions
are considered unimolecular meaning that only one molecule is involved in the rate determining step,
the slowest step of the reaction which determines the overall speed of the reaction. In contrast, Sn2
reactions are considered bimolecular, and complete the substitution reaction in one step. The main
components of these reactions are the nucleophile and the leaving group; a nucleophile replaces the
leaving group by donating its electrons to form a new bond to the carbon (Weldegirma). For this
experiment, the nucleophiles and leaving groups of the Sn1 reactions are alkyl halides and alcohols
respectively. When a hydrogen atom is replaced by halogen in an alkane, the resulting compound is
referred to as a alkyl halide. There are certain factors that affect both Sn1 and Sn2 reactions which
include the structure of the substrate, and the concentration and reactivity of the nucleophile (Sn2
only). If a

Taser Research Proposal Essay
Research Proposal
Tasers
Definition of the Research Problem/Question The research topic we have chosen to research is Tasers.
The use of Tasers has been a very controversial topic in the last few years. Reporters, doctors, and
human rights groups have all expressed concern that police officers will use a Taser in situations when
no weapon is required and concern has also been expressed over if the Taser is really a less lethal
option. No one claims the use of Tasers to be risk free but studies have found them comparatively safe.
We believe that people opposed to Tasers ignore a body of the reports showing the technology is safe
and effective. The research question we hope to answer is: Is the deployment of a Taser a safe and
viable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The media has made this topic a very controversial topic. If there is a story of someone getting tased
anywhere in the United States for anything, including having a weapon in their hand pointed at a law
enforcement officer, it will be on the Ten o clock news top story. The media makes citizens question
law enforcement actions because they only show the part of the story that has the greatest shock
factor. The reporters play the part of the video that makes the point they do not show the complete
video and explain what happened. Another issue that is on the rise is citizens believing that some
suspects that die after being tased is the result of the Taser. This is another problem the media has
created by telling the initial story and flashing Taser death all over the screen and don t do a follow up
story explaining the other reason why the person died that was tased. There is usually a medical
condition involved with the death. If the public does not receive the whole story how can they make
an informed decision if Tasers are a safe and viable option to deadly force.
Relevance
In our research study we hope to show that the goal to Tasers it to provide law enforcement with
alternatives to deadly force in order to minimize harm to both community members and police. We
also want to show that no use of devices or techniques may be safe to everyone, but that we can t look

Religious Backgrounds
Religious Backgrounds Having worked in various businesses and organizations throughout the years,
religion has been a subject rarely discussed or even mentioned in the workplace. Moreover, I always
regarded one s religious background and beliefs as a personal matter of choice. In my current
workplace, although diverse in our backgrounds, one does not discuss religion openly. It is a given
that all employees are to demonstrate respect, fairness, consideration, and courtesy to one another.
However, the only time I can recall discussing religion is on an individual basis with colleagues with
whom want to share their experiences. For example, my cubemate and I are Catholic and we observe
and celebrate Lent. The only reason we know about each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, there is no rule in our workplace that you cannot say Merry Christmas or decorate how
you want; however, one understands and is cognizant of the sensitivity of the other religious holidays
celebrated during the month of December. If I were to implement a policy regarding workplace
decorations, it will consider the location of publicly displayed decorations, specifically in common
areas, which should display non religious, winter themed decorations such as candy canes,
snowflakes, holly, and the like, which are not offensive to others. However, if an employee chooses to
decorate his or her own workspace according to his or her religious beliefs, the policy must reasonably
accommodate religious expression under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 unless it creates an
undue hardship (more than a minimal burden on the operation of the business). With regard to holiday
parties, it is a time to celebrate, but it is best not to force an employee to participate. Therefore,
employees would have the option to opt out without any negative recourse. For those who wish to

Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem Erich Fromm
Erich Fromm s essay Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem suggests that humankind s
evolution has, and continues to rely on man s capability to exercise disobedience. While discussing the
positions of disobedience being considered a vice, and obedience being a virtue, Fromm reflects upon
the history of Adam and Eve believing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He adds to this by introducing the concepts of rational and irrational authority, explaining that rational
authority would be equivalent to that of a teacher and student whereby there is mutual benefit, while
irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who demonstrates
complete disregard of the slave s happiness or well being, his only interest being how the slave will
benefit him. Through a veil of lies man obeys the State, the Church, the mass opinions of their peers,
or any other organization that they view to be in power. This affords him a false sense of safety and
protection. In his obedience, man feels strong allowing him to be controlled by the fear of being
isolated or having undesirable repercussions greet him as a result of any disobedience. Throughout
history it has been evident that, for the most part, the few in power have ruled over the majority. The
foundation of this relationship has been the few equating obedience with virtue and disobedience with
sin, resulting in man not only needing to obey, but wanting to obey. Man s inability to see that he has
lost his ability to disobey and stand up for what he believes and values, instead of what he has been

Spirited Away Reflection
Hayao Miyazaki s oscar award winning Spirited Away was the first Japanese anime film to win an
Oscar. To see how this animated feature film won this grand award, this paper will talk about the
writing, music, and sound design of this film.
Hayao Miyazaki was born on January 5, 1941 in a town called Akebono cho in Bunkyō, Tokyo. His
father ran a business that manufactured plane rudders during World War II. At the age of 3, Miyazaki s
family had to evacuate numerous times to escape bombings in their area. Miyazaki aspired to become
a manga artist when he was in junior high, but he was not good at drawing people, so instead he drew
planes, tanks, and ships. He then got inspired by a movie called Panda and the Magic Serpent (1958)
and began to draw more people.
Miyazaki s writing tends to be more on the fantasy side. One theme that can be seen throughout his
films is the joy and wonder of flying, as Miyazaki himself loves the idea of flying. In most of his more
famous films, things start out in a normal and real world setting, and then get whisked away into a
new and strange world filled with mystery and wonder.
The story of Spirited Away follows a ten year old girl named Chihiro, who is currently moving into a
new home in a new town in Japan. On their way to the new house, Chihiro s parents find an
abandoned temple like structure. The family decides to venture in and investigate the area. Chihiro is
cautious and doesn t want to go any further, but the fear of being left alone

Comparing Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a New World, Called the Blazing World and Sir
Thomas More s Utopia
The so called Utopia the quasi perfect society flourishes in Margaret Cavendish s The Description of a
New World, Called a Blazing World and Sir Thomas More s Utopia. While the former is a dreamlike
account of fantasy rule and the latter a pseudo realistic travelogue, both works paint a picture of
worlds that are not so perfect after all. These imperfections glitter like false gemstones in the paths of
these Utopians religious beliefs, political systems, and philosophical viewpoints.

In More s Utopia, everyone does indeed worship different gods, yet they must all believe in one single
eternal power. This allows Hythloday the narrator and his comrades to convert some of the Utopians
into Christians, for the citizens readily accept the one god notion and the practice of sharing
communal goods (More 517). No one is condemned due to his or her religious beliefs in Utopia. A
fanatic who begins condemning other religions is tried on a charge, not of despising their religion, but
of creating a public disorder and is sent into exile (More 518). Does this reflect a society with utopian
religious ideals? In Utopia, there are two sects of religious people the ascetic sect whose members do
not marry or eat meat, and the sect that allows its members to marry and eat meat. The Utopians
regard the second as more sensible, but the first holier. They believe that anyone [who] chose celibacy
over marriage and a hard life over a comfortable one on grounds of reason alone is insane; but as these
men say they are motivated by religion, the Utopians respect and revere them (More 520). Truly,
religion shapes a nation s identity and beliefs, and in the cases of the Blazing World and Utopia, some
aspects of their religion mars their perfect societies.
Closely linked to religion is marriage, a celebration governed by the government of Utopia. Marriage

The Geographic Landscape Of The African Continent
When it comes to discussing the geographic landscape of the African continent people are quick to
overlook the important role that soil has played in the development of cultures and civilizations in
Africa because it can be so easily overshadowed by Africa s other geographic features such as its
rivers, mountains, deserts and grasslands. However, to ignore soil is undoubtedly a mistake because
African soils cannot be separated from African history (Showers 118). Soils are literally the
foundation of life, used for farming, building houses, making pottery, and mined for their mineral
deposits. They are in themselves, historical bodies and they have interacted with human history since
its beginning. (Showers 118). While looking for information on the soil of Africa it is not uncommon
to find descriptions such as African soils are indeed poor (Bohannan 23) while being presented with
the seemingly paradoxical fact that By far the greatest number of Africans are farmers. (Bohannan 43).
This paper will examine how it is possible for Africa to be a continent consisting of such poor soil yet
be full of such a rich history of farming that persists into present day. It will explore the general
characteristics of African soil, how humans have historically interacted with soil, and the way that
outsiders have used generalizations about Africa s soil to perpetuate Western misconceptions.
When attempting to gain insight into the general characteristics of African soil it is

Labelling Theory
Labeling theory had its origins in Suicide, a book by French sociologist Émile Durkheim. He found
that crime is not so much a violation of a penal code as it is an act that outrages society. He was the
first to suggest that deviant labeling satisfies that function and satisfies society s need to control the
behavior. As a contributor to American Pragmatism and later a member of the Chicago School, George
Herbert Mead posited that the self is socially constructed and reconstructed through the interactions
which each person has with the community. The labeling theory suggests that people obtain labels
from how others view their tendencies or behaviors. Each individual is aware of how they are judged
by others because he or she has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mind, Self, and Society (1934),[1] he showed how infants come to know persons first and only
later come to know things. According to Mead, thought is both a social and pragmatic process, based
on the model of two persons discussing how to solve a problem. Our self image is, in fact, constructed
of ideas about what we think others are thinking about us. While we make fun of those who visibly
talk to themselves, they have only failed to do what the rest of us do in keeping the internal
conversation to ourselves. Human behavior, Mead stated, is the result of meanings created by the
social interaction of conversation, both real and imaginary. [edit]Frank Tannenbaum Frank
Tannenbaum is considered the grandfather of labeling theory. His Crime and Community (1938),[2]
describing the social interaction involved in crime, is considered a pivotal foundation of modern
criminology. While the criminal differs little or not at all from others in the original impulse to first
commit a crime, social interaction accounts for continued acts that develop a pattern of interest to
sociologists. Tannenbaum first introduced the idea of tagging .[3] While conducting his studies with
delinquent youth, he found that a negative tag or label often contributed to further involvement in
delinquent activities. This initial tagging may cause the individual to adopt it as part of their

Social Expectations Of Women In Dracula
Women and Sex in Bram Stoker s Dracula
The novel Dracula, written by Bram Stoker, is a very dark and gothic story that has many themes.
Although the most controversial theme throughout the story is Stokers opinion on women during the
Victorian era. The novel was written in 1897, a time where chastity, and etiquette were expected to be
demonstrated by every model citizen. However there was a huge controversial issue during that time
about women. More specifically the social expectations of women. Women during the Victorian era
women were expected to behave appropriately to social standards at all times, especially around men.
Although there was a large majority that supported the idea of The New Woman , which was a term
for a new type of women. One where the social expectations of women were completely disregarded
as they felt they had constrictions with these social expectations and preferred to be shown as equals.
This idea of The New Woman is shown in the story Dracula and the author, Bram Stoker, uses the
characters and their unfortunate situations to express his opinion on this new concept: The New
Woman.
The New Woman was an idea in the Victorian era that proposed women should not have to follow
certain social standards. In an article by Carol A. Senf she explains that The New Woman had certain
characteristics that went against the social standard. The New Woman was often a professional woman
who chose financial independence and personal fulfilment

Minority Student Diversity
Abstract
Within the last decade or so, the number of minority students and first generation students enrolling,
attending and graduating from colleges in the US has increased significantly despite the rising cost of
enrollment. This increase is due to the available scholarships, funding opportunities, affirmative action
or quota to be met by these institutions. The shift in the number of minority students graduating has
also affected the diversity of people in the workplace. Although discrimination legally ended more
than 40 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, the ongoing battle of minority people in the United
States trying to assimilate into a culture and justice system that does not work in their favor has
continued although it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
White students represent 75% of the students at the top 468 colleges in the country even though they
are only 62% of the country s college age population (Fletcher, 2013). On the other hand 67% of black
students and 75% of Latino students attend open access colleges. Black and Latino students make up
37% of students at open access schools but only 15% of students at the nation s top colleges while
making up 33% of the country s college age population (Fletcher,2013). Although black and Latino
students are attending college at higher rates, they are not given the tools necessary to graduate and
succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts. 30% of black and Latino students with an A
averages in high school end up in community colleges, as compared with 22% of white students
(Fletcher, 2013). Anthony Carnevale explains this phenomena saying, The higher education system is
colorblind in theory but in fact operates, at least in part, as a systematic barrier to opportunity for
many blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are college qualified but tracked into overcrowded and
under funded colleges, where they are less likely to develop fully or to graduate (Fletcher, 2013).
Carnevale further explains that the issue is not particularly with the students but the system that does
not support them. Michael Dannenberg, director of higher education and education finance policy at
the Education Trust, noted What individual colleges do often can make all the difference in the world
between a student graduating or leaving with a pile of debt and no degree. Demography is not destiny,
and what colleges do matters (Roach,

Bruce Dawe Poem Weapons Training
Bruce Dawe s poem Weapons Training is a dramatic monologue about the harsh conditions of the
training sessions for troops of the Vietnam War. The poem expresses the harsh conditions as well as
the dehumanisation of the soldiers. The poem was written in 1970 while Dawe was part of the RAAF.
Bruce Dawe uses a variation of language and poetic features to express his opinion and point of view
of the Vietnam War. All of the features which Dawe uses contribute to his representation of Australia
during the war.
Weapons Training is a monologue about the harsh and dehumanising conditions of the training session
for the soldiers. During the poem, Dawe uses a variety of crude words, insults and Australian slang to
show the dehumanisation and attitude the soldiers had to endure. Dawe uses both crude words and
insult to humiliate both Australian and Vietnamese soldiers. He uses phrases such as unsightly fat and
are you queer to insult Australian soldiers and little yellows and rotten fish sauce breath to insult the
Vietnamese. The slang that Dawe uses is able to show a representation of Australian culture, the slang
is old crown jewels, tripe s and copped the bloody lot. Using these words, the poet is able to show that
the culture is strong even during war. All the words that Dawe uses is a way of degrading the soldiers.

include USD, Euro, Japanese Yen, British Pound, Canadian Dollar, Swiss Franc, Australian Dollar,
Swedish Krona, Hong Kong, Dollar and Norwegian Krona. The prices of these currencies fluctuate on

Now remember how in point 1 it was mentioned that the best time to trade is when the market is at its
busiest? Here is why This peak time is when the liquidation is at its highest. This is when the most
exchanges happen, which means more opportunities and good deals. This is also when the market s
volatility (currency s price fluctuations) is at its lowest. So it is easier to make a profit in short amount
of time by making a spot trade when the currency s price is good. On the other hand, when the
liquidity is at its lowest, the trades become very slow and the fluctuations of prices happen slowly. It is
also important to mention that the price changes are drastic. Hence, it is very easy to lose money
during this time. 3. Leverage In layman s terms, this feature allows the trader to trade more money
than the amount present in trader s account. This gives the trader a chance at getting hands on huge
profits by investing a small amount. In most cases, the trader gets to choose their own leverage.
Leverage is a ratio. Let s say that you have $500 to invest in your account and that you are entering
into a trade with a leverage ratio of 50:1. This means that for every $1 you can trade for up to $50.
Now for as little as $500, leverage gives you the power to trade up to $25000. 4. Low Capital This
feature is what makes Forex attractive to so many working class individuals. It allows you to start
trading with as little as $100 in the account. 5.

Lifestyle Theory By Glenn Walters
Lifestyle Theory
Lifestyle Theory is a theory in Criminology created by Glenn Walters in 1990. Unsurprisingly this
theory is just as the name would suggest, a lifestyle choice to be a criminal. This theory focuses
heavily on the biological factors that influence a person s ability to commit crime. Walters wrote three
concepts to his theory: conditions, choice, and cognition. To start, I will address conditions. In Walters
s theory, he discusses the environmental and biological conditions that are involved in entering the
criminal lifestyle. The environmental condition is based around your environment like the name
suggests. What that means is that the decision to commit crime is due in part by your living situations
and needs. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As one last final crime they plan on robbing a bank but end up calling off the heist after another
couple tries to rob the bank before them. While this movie is a comedy, the conditions that force Dick
and Jane to a life of crime are quite serious and go a long way to supporting this theory. While the
conditions of bankruptcy and potential foreclosure forced the hand of Jim Carrey s character to
commit crime in order to support his family he also made the choice to pursue crime. Choice is the
second concept of Lifestyle Theory and addresses the offender s choice to commit a crime. The
choices criminals make can be directly affected by the third concept, Cognition. Cognition is the
offender s mental state and things that can potentially lead them to be convinced to commit crimes.
For example, someone may exploit the low IQ of a non offender by convincing them to commit
crimes to avoid getting in trouble themselves. Another factor is the offender s compulsiveness, this is
when the offender acts without thinking and is purely in the heat of the moment. Compulsiveness is
both cognition and choice; it is cognition because the potential offender is not giving themselves time
to think and rationalize their actions. It is also choice because they are choosing to commit a crime,
even if certain conditions, either biological or environmental, are influencing their acts.

1950s Red Scare Essay
Cole Amadio US II Mr. Metz 12/2/15 1950s Red Scare In the 1950s there was a red scare that
threatened the United States with communism and Nuclear espionage. The scare was questioned if it
was conspiracy or not, but it was justified because of the spies and Soviet Union threatening the
United states security. Through decryptions, trials and investigations these threats were justified
because of the Venona project, the project was a secret organization that gathered and decrypted
messages from soviet military agency in 1940s, and the HUAC. From the late 1930s to late 1950s the
HUAC took initial steps to find communists and spies in the United States. The House Un Americans
Activities Committee was a big part of the panic of the scare. The HUAC started investigating
Hollywood for communism spies in 1947, the committee held nine hearings, after convictions the
Hollywood ten were blacklisted. The HUAC Hollywood investigations were 1 of 50 investigations.
After the HUAC s Hollywood probe they focused on nuclear espionage, they were very successful in
finding spies like Elizabeth Bentley. Elizabeth Bentley in 1938 worked for Jacob Golos, who was a
member of the Communist party, while working for Jacob Golos she also worked at the Italian

Dirt ! The Movie Analysis
Dirt! The Movie Dirt! Was a very interesting movie. I never looked at dirt the way that the scientist

very different on how life began and how things came to be, it was interesting how this movie
incorporated both in the story. One of the most interesting stories was the one about the guy who had

the junkyard before but never looked at it in a way of how life in that truck came to be and how it

I always saw those in Afghanistan and never knew that about them I just thought that people built
them because they had no money. They mix it up like cement almost its looks almost the same without

needed to grow crops for future farmers. The fact that our own pesticides are killing off the soil and
then running into the water is scary. To think that we drink that water and some places use it to water
their own plants. I could not believe how many trees are being destroyed and how a lot of them are
being used for things like catalogs and newspaper adds that most of us just through away, we are
wasting them and don t even think about it. Soil is a living systems that cannot with stand all of these
chemicals and erosion that are constantly being done to it. We are hurting the farmers and the land
because of greed for money. The movie connects to your human side and really makes you think of
the pain and strain we are putting on humans around the world because of what we have done wrong
in agriculture. There are people eating yellow dirt cakes as food, how could we let it get to that. I

  • 2. Southwest Asia Southwest Asia is the term geographers use when referring to the Middle East. Middle East is a political term coined by the British in the 1930 s to distinguish the region from both the Far East, which included China, Japan and Indochina, and the Near East, which included portions of Western Europe. All of these areas are truly only east of Europe. In order to emphasize a more global perspective, geographers prefer to use the politically neutral term Southwest Asia because it does not connote a Western European bias. The traditional meat for kebab is lamb, but depending on local tastes and taboos, it may now be beef, goat, chicken, pork; fish and seafood; or even vegetarian foods like falafel or tofu. • 3. The Civil Rights Of The United States Essay The United states has been called the, Land of The Free since its independence was won from Great Britain, however, until 1965 Free only applied to a select demographic, white, land owning males. The most largely discriminated demographic before 1996 and somewhat even so today is the African American population. In 1619 the first African American slaves were introduced into the colony of Jamestown, Virginia 1. Then after many years and revolts, in 1831 slavery was finally abolished and all freed slaves were given 40 acres and a mule to help these newly freed slaves begin their new lives 2. Although this was helpful, many conflicts arose from this new found freedom and the struggle didn t get any easier. It wasn t until 1965, after the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), World War II, Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and several supreme court cases, that African American finally achieved the right to vote3. Even after these several legal advancements and many different civil rights movements the playing field, after many attempts to be leveled out, was still uneven and the day by day struggles continued. Even today, 396 years later, there are still racial bias and inequalities toward the African American community. While in the past or present changes have been and are being made by either the executive, legislative, or judicial branch to help African Americans achieve universal freedom and equality, but it is unclear ... • 4. The Importance Of Education In The 1920 s The 1920 s was an extravagant decade in American history. Many people had bought new items, such as radios, and played the stock market without worrying about the loans they used for the new items and stock market. The 1920 s also brought about change in the United States, such as women s suffrage and Prohibition. Despite Prohibition making the consumption and possession of alcohol illegal, many people went to speakeasies to drink alcohol. The government could not effectively control the drug and alcohol use in the 1920 s, but it did have control over education. With the government s ability to control education, it gained importance and attention in the 1920 s. The 1920 s was an important time in education. The decision in the Scopes trial ... In comparison, the average amount of students in 1924 in a private institution increased to 755 students per institution and 2165 students per public institution (Goldin et. al. 45). Both private and public institutions benefited from the increase of higher education students. Public institutions in 1924 had five times the amount of students they had in 1897. Ten years later, private institutions had an average of 859 students, and public institutions had an average of 2790 students (Goldin et. al. 45). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a need for the people to gather like this because Marcos famous implementation of Martial Law led to the deaths of several thousands of Filipinos. This regulation suspended several of the rights of the Filipinos and granted Marcos the free use of military power, which he did, against any who opposed him. The act of civil disobedience, which was basically exemplified through the People Power Revolution, also brings in with itself, some benefits and detriments. The benefit to this is that one may get the opportunity he/she is asking for through the resistance formed against the government like the People Power Revolution. The Filipinos here managed to non violently get what they were longing for such a time, which was a fair and honest president that soon was elected and was named Cory Aquino. Now, in the downside of committing civil disobedience, one may find it by relating back to the revolution that took place in the Philippines. If perhaps Marcos pushed through with an all out attack against his people, regardless of what the foreign entities would have done about it, millions of Filipinos would have gotten hurt and died as a result. Even though civil disobedience is an act of nonviolence, it is still considered as resistance and the people know that Marcos wasn t a fan of any sort of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine Sophocles Oedipus the King and Cocteau s The Infernal Machine relate the same story, yet from quite different angles. Sophocles play is written in heightened language and spends 1,530 lines on an hour of time. On the other hand, Cocteau s characters speak colloquially, and his 96 pages cover 17 years, putting much more emphasis on the events prior to where Sophocles begins his play. Sophocles and Cocteau present Oedipus character in different lights, and through these characters express contrary themes. Unfortunately, he thinks too much of himself and believes that he knows better than the gods. Cocteau s Oedipus lacks wisdom and behaves in a silly manner. The Infernal Machine presents Cocteau s vision of what transpired between Oedipus and the Sphinx. In this version, the sphinx blindly chooses Oedipus to be Thebes savior and even answers the riddle for him. She picks him because she has a crush on him and is bored with her job. This Oedipus becomes king out of luck and rules very much like a child. All this Oedipus strives for is action, adventure. (Cocteau, Infernal Machine, p.45) Even the Sphinx says, The fool! He understood nothing. (Cocteau, Infernal Machine, p. 53) Of course, by not understanding what transpired with the sphinx, Cocteau s Oedipus believes himself to be a genius and an able ruler. Of course he can not even make it through his nightmares without the support of Jocasta, his wife/mother. lt;block quote gt;OEDIPUS. Help! Here! Come here! Anybody! Help me! JOCASTA. • 8. Rossetti s Influence On The Art Nouveau Movement Starting from the year 1862, Rossetti started to paint mainly large, female figures, sensuous and dramatic. Lots of famous Rossetti s paintings, were inspired by his red haired wife and major muse Jane. Casting the girl that was probably not considered as beautiful at that times, started to change the understanding of beauty everyone had. His perception of beauty influenced the European Symbolists, making him a major precursor of the Aesthetic movement. His influence can be sensed even in the famous Czech artist Alphonse Mucha s work. But how could Rossetti s P.R.M. artwork be influential to Art Nouveau movement artist? To start with, Alphonse Mucha (1860 1939), Czech artist, is best known for his posters depicting beautiful women. He worked in variety of media including printing, painting, jewelry, furniture and even more. Mucha did not like the fact that he was associated with Art Noveau, and preferred the word movement . Like Rossetti s, majority of Mucha s work are portraits of stunning females. He searched for inspiration from Czech traditions and artwork he grew up on. This allows to speculate that Rossetti was one of them, as Mucha was not afraid of learning or trying new things. The movement Art Nouveau started in the 1800 s, London, and was the artistic rebellion that promoted freedom, desire to get rid of distinction between low and high art, to bring art to everyday life, to allow poor people to have the same artworks that rich people decorated their ... • 12. The World Of The War Propaganda By Alice Goldfarb Marquis At the beginning of the war, the British army relied on volunteers to swell the ranks, which propaganda facilitated. Newspaper articles were one of the main forms of media that spread British pro war propaganda. Alice Goldfarb Marquis writes that the articles were seen as powerful movers of men and women; they became mobilizers of the national spirit, calls to courage, to sacrifice and, finally, to simple endurance (467). This statement portrays the general message of all articles: the men must have courage and be ready to make sacrifices for the greater good of their country. Describing the journalists as powerful movers of men and women (467) demonstrates journalists abilities to empower the British people to enter the war. Journalists were at the forefront of creating propaganda and influencing people to take action. Marquis describes the role of the journalist as an engineer of souls playing on the whole keyboard of human instincts... to incite action , and employing a tremendous apparatus the press (467). Referring to the journalists as engineers of souls, (467) makes it clear that the journalists had the ability to manipulate the people, and in this case, the journalists were inclined to incite action, (467) highlighting the ability of their articles to motivate people to take up arms. • 13. Pine Island Glacier is the Largest Sheet of Ice on Earch Pine island Glacier is an enormous stream of ice flowing west northwest along the south of Hudson mountains into the Amundsen Sea in Antarctica. This ice sheet is the largest chunk of ice on planet Earth having a volume of a water equivalent to 57m of the global sea level. Hence, this basin has the largest net contribution of ice to the sea in the world. In the past few decades, the pine island glacier has been melting at an irreversible rate. Studies show that the ground line of the glacier has retreated 10 kilometres and is in the process of touching a 40 kilometre retreat. The glacier has been losing approximately 20 billion tons of ice each year for the past quarter of the century and is estimated to lose four times the ice in the coming quarter. As said by a glaciologist with France s Grenoble Alps University, Gael Durand, the glacier has started a phase of self sustained retreat and will continue its decline. The loss of ice from the glacier at this rate would cause disasters and hence is the latest issue of climatic concern. It has played a significant role in the rise of the global sea level. It is predicted that at this rate, the glacier will alone increase the sea level by another centimetre in the next 20 years. The thinning of the ice in West Antarctica contributes to 10% of the rise in the sea level today. The most recent acceleration has been monotonic. The Great Pyramid Of Giza Giza, an area located southwest of what is now known as Cairo, is home to one of the most astonishing and mysterious feats of architecture ever assembled, The Great Pyramid. Located approximately 5 miles west of the Nile River near the city of Cairo, Egypt, The Great Pyramid is part of a larger complex called the Giza Necropolis, which also houses the Great Sphinx, and two smaller pyramids. It is said to have been built by the enslaved citizens of Khufu, second ruler of the 4th dynasty, and son of Snefru. Although archaeologists have since disproved that theory. The pyramids are said to have been built to house the deceased bodies of the pharaohs after they have transitioned into the after life. However, there is no evidence of this being the case. There are many questions surrounding the Pyramids of Giza, some of which, might not ever be answered. Subsequently, archaeologists, engineers, scientists and Egyptologists have been able to provide some very logical theories to try and answer these questions. Built between 2589 BC and 2504 BC for pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Pyramids of Giza are the only ones of the original structures of the Seven Wonders of the World that still stand. College students would totally take advantage of the opportunity to go to college for free and completely blow it , it would even the playing field for everyone to be equal because college tuition is what keeps everyone else out. College would then be accessible to anyone who wanted to go. Tuition is put in place for a reason. It shouldn t be lifted because if it is the government will end up having to come out of more money to fund the things that more of the college students need as such as books, computer labs etc. By the government needing more funding that would mean the taxpayers taxes would have to increase without their say so it wouldn t even be an option. According to dissent magazine, Bruenig (2015 ) states The main problem with free college is that most students come from disproportionately well off backgrounds and already enjoy disproportionately well off futures, which makes them relatively uncompelling targets for public transfers with that being stated . I feel like no one should get a free handout especially those who are of the well off status. Why should they get everything so easy? Make them work for it. By making tuition free you would just basically be handing them a degree without having to work hard for it. when there is money at hand, (tuition) college is taken seriously. Can you imagine how would society be impacted if tuition be free. The world be equal because the playing field would be neutral territory. Everyone would be granted the same opportunity to earn money at a higher pay rate and looked upon with great gratitude just for receiving a degree. Colleges would be extremely too crowded, resources would be extremely scarce as far as paper, textbooks, etc. referring to Bruenig (2015) Given these class based differences in attendance levels, institutional selection, and current student benefit levels, making college free for everyone would almost certainly mean giving far more money to students from richer families than from poorer ones . The 17th century New England was in change. At that time, the traditional way of dealing with things, the means of facing dissension and the laws and rules of the new era caused a dramatic tension: the confrontation between judicial system and tradition mode. In the past, people s methods of dealing with difficult things tended to appeal to supernatural powers, which led to the truth distored or buried. The emergence of the judicial system had greatly challenged this traditional method. By reading Escaping Salem we can feel the transformation process. The story of Witch Hunt in Escaping Salem is not complicated. A maid named Kate was suddenly mad out of unknown reason and says she is bewtiched. Gradually the neighbors begin to believe that Kate was indeed bewitched. At the same time, Kate begins to name three suspected witch names, two of whom are tried. The villagers of the story do not play the role of fools. There is a sharp contrast between the scholars who graduated from famous universites and the ordinary villagers. • 23. Reactivity Of Tert-Butyl Chloride Lab Report Courtney Copeland Alexis Madrazo TA: Katrinah Tirado October 10, 2017 Synthesis and Reactivity of tert butyl Chloride via an Sn1 Reaction Copeland 1 Introduction/Background Substitution reactions are important chemical processes that contribute to the production of new compounds. Simplistically, these reactions take place through a series of steps in which one functional group is replaced by another (March). There are two types of nucleophilic substitution reactions, first order and second order, but this experiment only involves the Sn1 first order reactions. Sn1 reactions are considered unimolecular meaning that only one molecule is involved in the rate determining step, the slowest step of the reaction which determines the overall speed of the reaction. In contrast, Sn2 reactions are considered bimolecular, and complete the substitution reaction in one step. The main components of these reactions are the nucleophile and the leaving group; a nucleophile replaces the leaving group by donating its electrons to form a new bond to the carbon (Weldegirma). For this experiment, the nucleophiles and leaving groups of the Sn1 reactions are alkyl halides and alcohols respectively. When a hydrogen atom is replaced by halogen in an alkane, the resulting compound is referred to as a alkyl halide. There are certain factors that affect both Sn1 and Sn2 reactions which include the structure of the substrate, and the concentration and reactivity of the nucleophile (Sn2 only). If a ... As a contributor to American Pragmatism and later a member of the Chicago School, George Herbert Mead posited that the self is socially constructed and reconstructed through the interactions which each person has with the community. Our self image is, in fact, constructed of ideas about what we think others are thinking about us. The novel was written in 1897, a time where chastity, and etiquette were expected to be demonstrated by every model citizen. However there was a huge controversial issue during that time about women. More specifically the social expectations of women. Women during the Victorian era women were expected to behave appropriately to social standards at all times, especially around men. Although there was a large majority that supported the idea of The New Woman , which was a term for a new type of women. One where the social expectations of women were completely disregarded as they felt they had constrictions with these social expectations and preferred to be shown as equals. • 32. Minority Student Diversity Abstract Within the last decade or so, the number of minority students and first generation students enrolling, attending and graduating from colleges in the US has increased significantly despite the rising cost of enrollment. This increase is due to the available scholarships, funding opportunities, affirmative action or quota to be met by these institutions. The shift in the number of minority students graduating has also affected the diversity of people in the workplace. Although discrimination legally ended more than 40 years ago with the Civil Rights Movement, the ongoing battle of minority people in the United States trying to assimilate into a culture and justice system that does not work in their favor has continued although it is ... White students represent 75% of the students at the top 468 colleges in the country even though they are only 62% of the country s college age population (Fletcher, 2013). On the other hand 67% of black students and 75% of Latino students attend open access colleges. Black and Latino students make up 37% of students at open access schools but only 15% of students at the nation s top colleges while making up 33% of the country s college age population (Fletcher,2013). Although black and Latino students are attending college at higher rates, they are not given the tools necessary to graduate and succeed at the same rates as their white counterparts. 30% of black and Latino students with an A averages in high school end up in community colleges, as compared with 22% of white students (Fletcher, 2013). Anthony Carnevale explains this phenomena saying, The higher education system is colorblind in theory but in fact operates, at least in part, as a systematic barrier to opportunity for many blacks and Hispanics, many of whom are college qualified but tracked into overcrowded and under funded colleges, where they are less likely to develop fully or to graduate (Fletcher, 2013). Carnevale further explains that the issue is not particularly with the students but the system that does not support them. Michael Dannenberg, director of higher education and education finance policy at the Education Trust, noted What individual colleges do often can make all the difference in the world between a student graduating or leaving with a pile of debt and no degree. Demography is not destiny, and what colleges do matters (Roach, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Now remember how in point 1 it was mentioned that the best time to trade is when the market is at its busiest? Here is why This peak time is when the liquidation is at its highest. This is when the most exchanges happen, which means more opportunities and good deals. This is also when the market s volatility (currency s price fluctuations) is at its lowest. So it is easier to make a profit in short amount of time by making a spot trade when the currency s price is good. On the other hand, when the liquidity is at its lowest, the trades become very slow and the fluctuations of prices happen slowly. It is also important to mention that the price changes are drastic. Hence, it is very easy to lose money during this time. 3. Leverage In layman s terms, this feature allows the trader to trade more money than the amount present in trader s account. • 37. Lifestyle Theory By Glenn Walters Lifestyle Theory Lifestyle Theory is a theory in Criminology created by Glenn Walters in 1990. Unsurprisingly this theory is just as the name would suggest, a lifestyle choice to be a criminal. This theory focuses heavily on the biological factors that influence a person s ability to commit crime. Walters wrote three concepts to his theory: conditions, choice, and cognition. To start, I will address conditions. In Walters s theory, he discusses the environmental and biological conditions that are involved in entering the criminal lifestyle. The environmental condition is based around your environment like the name suggests. What that means is that the decision to commit crime is due in part by your living situations and needs. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As one last final crime they plan on robbing a bank but end up calling off the heist after another couple tries to rob the bank before them. While this movie is a comedy, the conditions that force Dick and Jane to a life of crime are quite serious and go a long way to supporting this theory. While the conditions of bankruptcy and potential foreclosure forced the hand of Jim Carrey s character to commit crime in order to support his family he also made the choice to pursue crime. Choice is the second concept of Lifestyle Theory and addresses the offender s choice to commit a crime. The choices criminals make can be directly affected by the third concept, Cognition. Cognition is the offender s mental state and things that can potentially lead them to be convinced to commit crimes. For example, someone may exploit the low IQ of a non offender by convincing them to commit crimes to avoid getting in trouble themselves. Another factor is the offender s compulsiveness, this is when the offender acts without thinking and is purely in the heat of the moment. Compulsiveness is both cognition and choice; it is cognition because the potential offender is not giving themselves time to think and rationalize their actions. It is also choice because they are choosing to commit a crime, even if certain conditions, either biological or environmental, are influencing their acts. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The way they talk about how everything works together and how dirt was the first living organism on earth was something I honestly didn t know. Normally science and religion are very different on how life began and how things came to be, it was interesting how this movie incorporated both in the story. One of the most interesting stories was the one about the guy who had the garden grow in the back of his truck while he was in the hospital. I ve exactly seen this before in the junkyard before but never looked at it in a way of how life in that truck came to be and how it grows in an environment like that. It seems as if dirt ... They mix it up like cement almost its looks almost the same without the chemicals. The adding of pesticides can also deplete the life of the dirt and possibly kill of the soil needed to grow crops for future farmers. The fact that our own pesticides are killing off the soil and then running into the water is scary. To think that we drink that water and some places use it to water their own plants. I could not believe how many trees are being destroyed and how a lot of them are being used for things like catalogs and newspaper adds that most of us just through away, we are wasting them and don t even think about it. Soil is a living systems that cannot with stand all of these chemicals and erosion that are constantly being done to it. We are hurting the farmers and the land because of greed for money. The movie connects to your human side and really makes you think of the pain and strain we are putting on humans around the world because of what we have done wrong in agriculture.
