Horror Narrative Essay
The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most
connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its
audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody
deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and
theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to
convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on psychology,
theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to examine the notions
of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist
(Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading the
boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult followings and
mixed reviews.
In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal
Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In (Thorne
2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will lead the early
part of the season. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror cinema, it can actually
outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is live. The question for the stage
though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage without the magic of high expensive
technical effects?
Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and
revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In
modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol, which
presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed emphasis on

The New York City
Living in America is a fantasy for a lot of people, but living in New York City is something even
better, and more magical than any fantasy.
Although regarded as the `most populated city in the United States, the whole city has something
interesting to offer everyone. It is sub divided into five boroughs , being Queens , The Bronx ,
Brooklyn , Manhattan , and Staten Island respectively .The landmarks in New York city are known all
over the world . There is the famous Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, the sky scrapers,

You can buy anything at anytime during the day or night because the shops never close.
Walking down the Manhattan streets, it s almost customary to smell the smoke of exhaust from
thousands of cars. The smoke coming from Subway stations underneath the roads can get to your
nostrils quicker than it can be seen. It almost makes you feel like if you are a big giant walking along
houses under your feet that have smoke coming out of their chimneys. At the same time the smell of
hotdogs stands, salted pretzel stands make you aware of their presence as your smell sensors go crazy,
and start telling your brain to get some. You can try your best but the smell from Italian pizzerias will
sure pull you in for a slice or two even if you are not a pizza lover. Then you have the fresh smell of
different fruits coming from the fruit stands on the streets, reminding you that New York City even has
choices for everyone even for healthy conscious ones.
I lived and liked Brooklyn borough of New York City because it has so many Pakistani people, that it
s called Little Pakistan. There you will find tasty Indo Pakistani food. Your taste buds will thank you
for the spicy aroma, and tenderness of chicken or beef kabobs perfectly done on clay oven called

Research Paper On New England Colonies
The New England colonies consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and
Connecticut. These colonies were settled by Puritans in the 1600s. The tension between Puritans and
the Church of England caused England to divide, and the Puritans decided to go to the New World.
They left their native lands to go to a place where they could practice their religion without getting in
trouble (OER Textbook Settling New England ). The Middle colonies were New York, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania and Delaware. These colonies were the most diverse and had the best economy. New
York was founded after the English conquered the land from the Dutch. After taking it, they renamed
it New York after the Duke of York. The land was later split and formed the

Comparing Brazilian Culture To American Culture
Brazil is a country located in the North Eastern and Eastern section of South America. It is the fourth
largest country in the world and fifth most populous, holding over 200 million people, which also
accounts for one third of South America s entire population. (The World Factbook: Brazil 2018)
Because of its huge size, Brazil receives millions of tourists each year; which makes it important to
understand how to evaluate Brazilian culture and their way of communication. The culture of Brazil is
one of the most diverse cultures in the world due to its long history of colonizers and explorers. The
first European settlers to arrive in the now Brazilian area (A Brief History of Brazil, n.d.), were the
Portuguese led by Pedro Cabral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first dimension in Hofstede s cultural dimensions is the power distance. This is the degree in
which people in a particular culture view the unequal distribution of power as acceptable (McCornack,
2015). Brazil has a much higher belief in power distance than the United States. In Brazil there is a
large power distance, which means that they believe that each person has a place in the social
hierarchy, that authorities should not be challenged, that hierarchy and inequality are appropriate and
actually benefit the society (Comparing Brazilian Culture to American Culture, n.d.). This is very
different to American culture because America was founded on challenging the government. Our
constitution was made so that we can challenge our government and keep its power in check, so the
government does not abuse its power. Most Americans also believe that inequality is bad for our
country. We have gone through many periods of inequality in this country and we look back on them
to see what we did wrong and how we can do better now as to not repeat our mistakes. Another
dimension is the uncertainty avoidance, Cultures vary in how much they tolerate and accept
unpredictability (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a high uncertainty avoidance culture. Cultures like
Brazil make rigid rules and set regulations to try and cut down on uncertainty. This can be seen in their
history of military leaders as leaders of the country. Brazil is a high context society, which means they
put a strong emphasis on how the message is said rather than focusing on the words used alone.
Examples of this include Brazilians will sometimes exaggerate a point but it will be done in a way that
the others know it to be an exaggeration. Brazil is also a collectivistic culture. This means that
Brazilians emphasize group identity, interpersonal harmony, and the well being

Ronald Reagan Challenger Disaster Analysis
On the morning of January 28, 1986, a tragedy struck the United States when the Space Shuttle
Challenger exploded just moments after liftoff on national television. Approximately 74 seconds into
its flight, the shuttle erupted into flame and was totally enveloped in the explosive burn before
breaking apart, killing all seven astronauts aboard. The Rogers Commission, appointed by President
Ronald Reagan to investigate the disaster, later concluded that the accident occurred due to the failure
of an O ring seal in the right solid rocket booster of the shuttle.1 Saddened by the event, Reagan
postponed his annual State of the Union address and instead gave a national address on the disaster the
night of the incident. Within his address, Reagan expresses his condolences to the families of the crew
and reminds everyone that we re still pioneers despite that we ve grown used to the idea of space.

of NASA leading up to the disaster and refers to a quote which states that one of the biggest outcomes
from the tragedy was the recommendation that NASA needed a stronger safety organization. Though
Cindy and Tom did not recall specific details of conversations they had with others about the
Challenger disaster, their feelings and opinions are mirrored in many of the quotes found in

Maryland Rule 5-901 Document Analysis
Johnson further maintains that the circuit court erred by admitting documents that were not properly
authenticated. The State counters that the appearance and contents of each of the documents contained
sufficient information from which the factfinder could have reasonably concluded that the document
was what the State purported it to be. We hold that the documents admitted against Johnson were
properly authenticated. Maryland Rule 5 901 provides that generally:
The requirement of authentication or identification as a condition precedent to admissibility is
satisfied by evidence sufficient to support a finding that the matter in question is what its proponent

This process includes five imperative steps that enable us to be persevered after death. The first step,
embalming and anatomical dissection, is a process involving halting decay by pumping formalin into
the body through the arteries. The formalin will kill the bacteria throughout our bodies and chemically
stops the decay of the tissue. Than, using dissection tools, the skin and fatty and connective tissues are
removed to prepare the individual anatomical structures. The second step, removal of body fat and
water, is a process which water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a
solvent bath (which is basically called an acetone bath.) The third step, forced impregnation, is quite
the interesting step. During this process, a reactive polymer (silicone rubber) replaces the acetone. The

“Evaluate the Claim That Religious Language Is...
In the debate about religious language, it is important that broadly speaking, there are two types of
language, cognitive and non cognitive. Cognitive language conveys facts i.e. things that we can know
or be cognisant of. Non cognitive language conveys information that is not factual; feelings and
emotional claims. Those who believe that religious language is non cognitive and so meaningless stem
their beliefs from the Logical Positivist. The Logical Positivists were a group of philosophers who
were primarily concerned with the truth contained in statements we can make, or in other words, with
what can be logically posited, or stated. The group began in Vienna, Austria in the 1920s and gathered

Brian Davies further argued that the verificationism principle itself is unverifiable; one cannot verify
whether it is true or false and therefore by its own criteria, it is meaningless. Both Ward and Davies s
arguments significantly weaken verificationism. Hick argued that statements are eschatologically
verifiable, so that after someone dies, they can verify all the statements they made when they were
alive, however this is a weak argument against verificationism, and it does not weaken the verification
principle as much as Hick and Davies. One other philosopher who was influenced by the Logical
Positivists (alongside Karl Popper) was Anthony Flew. Flew believed that when you assert something,
you are also asserting (whether you like it or not) that there are facts/evidence that may count against
your assertion. His Falsification principle proposed that a statement was meaningless if no sense
experience could count against it; a statement is meaningful if it is known what empirical evidence
could count against it. Flew uses the parable of the gardener to illustrate his point; Two explorers
return to come across a garden in which had grown flowers and weeds. Even though there are some
areas which are overgrown, there are certain areas that appear to be tended to. One argues that there is
a gardener on account of the flowers, the other argues that they could be no

The Representation of Women in Snow White, Sonnet 130 and...
The representation of females in literary Works is a polemical issue. They have often been associated
with a misogynistic stereotype. I have chosen three literary texts to compare the descriptions of
women; Snow White , Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare and The Rape of the Lock by Alexander
Pope. This will draw attention to the way that women are often portrayed as we see the common
ingredients in their descriptions, as well as any potential differences between them. In both Snow
White and The Rape of the Lock women are portrayed as vain and obsessed with their beauty. The
speaker in The Rape of the Lock condemns the girl described, Belinda, for her obsession with
appearances by mocking her through the use of hyperbole, for ... Show more content on

We can see a clear contrast in the description of Little Snow White and the mistress from Sonnet 130 ,
to the point that they are almost the antithesis of each other. An example of this is their skin. Little
Snow White is said to be white as snow (line 8), whereas the sonnet says If snow be white, why then
[the mistress ] breasts are dun (line 3). Another example is their cheeks, where the mistress is said to
have no such roses (line 6) in her cheeks, Little Snow White is described as rosy as blood ( line 8).
Finally there is a distinct variation in the description of their hair, although in both cases black, Little
Snow White s is described as being black as ebony (line 9) where the mistress hair is said to be black
wires , the choice of simile is extremely different, ebony being a luxurious and presumably beautiful
material and wires being supposedly common and ugly. The three portrayals of female beauty are
conflicting, with Belinda s being purely artificial, like a façade, Little Snow White s being natural, and
the mistress being apparently non existent. With these descriptions go three opposing perceptions of
women. The first two are extremely misogynistic; The Rape of the Lock ridicules them as vain,
shallow people, Snow White objectifies them by

Outdoor Recreation Is A Big Part Of Humans Interacting...
Outdoor recreation is a big part of humans interacting with the environment. Hiking, biking, hunting,
fishing, visiting national parks, examining wildlife, and traveling: these are the primary outdoor
recreational activities in the United States. Each one has a significant impact on the environment. At
some outdoor recreational activity spots there are restrictions as to where guests can walk and how
much of the environment they can explore. This isn t to make the guests mad; it is to preserve nature
and make it last a long time, so the visitors can come back in years to come. First, outdoor recreation

If guests want to keep visiting the parks and be able to experience the scenic views of different states,
they need to be respectful of the earth. Guests need to think of the impact they are having on others,
not just themselves. While Utah s residents and visitors are having fun in the outdoors, they also feed

Latin America Intervention
From the literature presented in a course dealing with United States relations with Latin America
during the Cold War, it is interesting that political and cultural intervention in Central America, as an
important and driving social construct, is not a central role in the observations and analyses of the
scholars. While it would make sense that our Western understanding of the concept does not translate
in the same ways in this particular context, it still seems as though studies of the political, economic,

Tim Draper s Business Analysis
As one recent article on the West Valley database noted, venture capitalist investor, Tim Draper, is
proposing a voter initiative on Congress to split California into 6 states. Today, researchers have been
observing areas of California that place either greater or lesser importance on decisions about laws,
taxes, and public policy, thus some counties are lacking in affordable housing and quality
infrastructure. The fact that our state lies between the top ten worst governments to do business with

Hate Crime And Violence
Do you remember Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina? Do

approximately 9 p.m. walked into this church during bible study and needlessly took their lives for no
other reason than the color of there skin. The motivation you ask? That s simple, it was hate. Dylann at

This was simple a hate crime in its purest form. What is a hate crime? Hate crime is the toxic ideology

As defined by the Hate Crime Statistics Act of 1990, hate crimes are crimes that manifest evidence of

In the three literary works that were chosen, The Known Citizen by W. H. Auden, A P by John Updike,
and Antigone by Sophocles has a theme that is known to be conformity and rebellious. The poem The
Unknown Citizen is mainly about the unknown man who is a conformist because he listens to all the
rules that are made for the society. On the other hand, the short story A P has a conformist character
who enforces the rules for the supermarket and a rebellious character who goes against the rules for
the supermarket. Similar to A P the play Antigone also has a conformist character who likes to go by
the rules that the society has made; however, a rebellious character who is always goes against the

Stereotypes In Pretty Woman
Pretty Woman is a rags to riches romantic comedy directed by Gary Marshall in 1990. It is a dark

portrayed by Richard Gere, a wealthy businessman who wants Vivian to be his escort for various
social upper class events and businesses and their emerging relationship during her stay with him.
The characters in the film goes as follows:
Edward Lewis, a rich corporate businessman and womanizer from New York. He is shown to be
assertive, prideful and egoistic man. Portrayed by Richard Gere.

hierarchy. Vivian s empowerment is seen when she first steps in the car with Edward when he does not

masculine activity, hence this scene portrays an amazing reversal of gender roles. It is also seen how
Edward is taken a back by Vivian s confidence and independence, not traits stereotypically associated
with prostitutes. Pretty Woman
Questions the tolerance of modern society to display of sexuality, drawing parallels between sex and
power. Throughout the film, parallels are shown between Edward and Vivian s work despite the fact
that they are polar opposite social classes.

In the late eighteenth century, Reverend Thomas Robert Malthus described how human population,
when unchecked, grows exponentially while resources (specifically food) exhibits arithmetical growth

Mexican Prohibition Drugs
After watching the documentary on how marijuana became illegal I ve learned about the prohibition
of alcohol and how alcohol was a major thing in America. Once alcohol was banned people started
trying drugs such as marijuana as a scapegoat. Though the alcohol ban was later overturned drugs still
played a major part in America. I think it s interesting to know that marijuana had such a bad
reputation even though it hasn t been linked to any deaths or overdose. This documentary really
exposes the government and their manipulation. The only reason marijuana became illegal was
because the government no longer found Mexicans of any value after they have worked for cheap
labor and wanted ways where they can bring them back to Mexico. Marijuana

The Theme Of Inequality In Chloe Neill s Veil
As humans, our natural instincts for categorization give us a sense of safety a sense of being in
control. Even from the beginning, children are trained to understand which blocks fit into which slots,
and where things are supposed to be put away. We find satisfaction in categorizing things even when
we don t realize we are doing it, such as with people. Thus creating the recent raging topic of
inequality. Not to say inequality has not been present since the beginning. However, it is only in
relatively recent times that people have started to stand up and fight for their well deserved rights.
These people are enervated by the lines drawn between themselves and others. Most of life consists of
stereotyping others to understand them with a simple and formative ideal, but people are much more
complex than a single idea. We should not be afraid of the differences that stand between one and
another, but rather recognize it and use it for mutual growth. By understanding why we are different,
we will no longer live in fear. In Chloe Neill s book, Veil, she combines the perpetual workings of this
fear and how the people affected by it react to its power. Akin to the inner workings of America, we all
follow the same universal ideal. Freedom. However, there is a percentage of us that are blindly content
with their own freedoms while forcing the repression of another. In spite of my enjoyment of the
moral message the further I stepped into this world of magic, I found my biggest

The Effect of World War I on Britain Economically and...
The Effect of World War I on Britain Economically and Socially The outbreak of the war in August
1914 produced immediate changes. It is often said that war is the locomotive of history that is what
drives it along. Certainly the First World War helped to produce major changes in British government,
society, the economy and industrial relations. The war produced political turmoil. In 1915 Prime
Minister Asquith formed a coalition government, and the following year he was replaced as premier
by Lloyd George, who gave a new impetus to the direction of the war. He believed in greater state
intervention built upon the abandonment of laissez faire. The powers of the state had grown
enormously. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Electric power was used more than ever before. The removal of so many skilled workers had initially
threatened an economic collapse but had in fact stimulated the much needed mechanisation. The
efficiency of agriculture had also increased, with the widespread introduction of the tractor. Such
changes however, although at a slower pace, might have occurred even without the war. The same
cannot be said for the high numbers of casualities incurred. A productive section of the workforce had
been lost. In addition Britain still had to pay the financial costs of the war. Massive amounts of money
had been borrowed and still had to be repaid. Valuable overseas markets had been lost. During the war
massive investment in the staple industries had taken place. But once the war was over the demand of
these products fell. The decline of the staple industries was also the main reason for the bitter
industrial relations which developed in post war Britain. During the war actually industrial relations
had improved. Trade unions reacted patriotically to the outbreak of was and a spirit of collaboration
developed between them and the government. The Treasury Agreement was signed in 1915 which
specified that unions involved in vital war work would not strike. In return they were promised that
the old arrangements would be resumed after the war. It was only a voluntary agreement, but in July

Obesity And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder ( Adhd )
In the twenty first century everyone is looking for a way to be healthy, whether that is by eating lean
meats, staying away from carbohydrates or even avoiding gluten. While some people believe going on
these diets makes them healthier, they do not understand why or the consequences they may face in
the future. Gluten is becoming a well know ingredient; many stores have added gluten free sections
and restaurants have added gluten free items to the menu. However, some people fail to recognize
what gluten truly is, where it can be found and how it actually effects one s body. The majority of
people who are gluten free do not have celiac disease or even gluten sensitivity. They just go gluten
free to reap the benefits of a healthier lifestyle, little do these people know there are few benefits to be
reaped. With that stated, it is also important to note that people with other disorders such as autism or
attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), also go gluten free to improve symptoms and traits.
Despite the fact that removing gluten alone from a diet does not prove to help the symptoms as
claimed. Nevertheless, going gluten free is only beneficial for those who have celiac disease, gluten
sensitivity or a wheat allergy. Countless members of society do not understand where gluten comes
from, they just believe that it is not good for them. Gluten originated when people began to grow
wheat and other grains as civilizations were created. Our ancient

The Meaning Of Gay And Homosexuality
Our world changes day by day. Humans grow, evolve, and adjust to the modern world. As our world
advances, our language and terminology progresses along with it. A word that has changed completely
in definition is gay , it has two completely different meanings. Today gay means, of, relating to, or
exhibiting sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one s own sex;
homosexual (The Definition of Gay). and in the 12th century gay meant happy or carefree (How Gay)
How did the definition of this word change so greatly over the years?
Gay came about in the 12th century, with the meaning of carefree , joyful , or bright and showy (How
Gay). The word is first recorded in English c.1325, with the meaning of beautiful, in a poem titled
Blow, Northerne Wind, which appears in the manuscript British Library MS Harley 2253. The English
word comes from the French gai, but where this French word comes from is uncertain (Word
Origins.org.). The first meaning of gay was once meant to have a meaning of happiness. People woke
up hoping to have a gay day.
By the 17th century gay started to change from meaning bright and showy to mean immorality . By
the mid 17th century, according to an Oxford dictionary definition at the time, the meaning of the
word had changed to mean addicted to pleasures and dissipations. Often euphemistically: Of loose and
immoral life (How Gay). In the span of five hundred years this word began to greatly change from

Analysis Of Sylvia Plath s Tulips
Tulips by Sylvia Plath explores the idea of disconnecting oneself from life, only to be reminded of
their responsibilities in life. The speaker in the poem is in a hospital room, separate from their family.
No one is present in the white hospital room, except for the speaker and the tulips. The room is
peaceful and allows the speaker to enjoy a lack of commitment towards anything. Unfortunately for
the speaker, the tulips in the room remind the speaker of their life and bind the speaker to their
responsibilities. In Sylvia Plath s Tulips, color symbolism and personification contrast the peace of
disconnection and commitments in life.

The color symbolism of the white hospital room and the red tulips juxtapose the peacefulness of the
hospital room with the speaker s internal conflict regarding their responsibilities.
Personification of silence and tulips further emphasizes the speaker s disconnection with worldly
responsibilities with the chaos of life. The silence and peace of the hospital room is freeing to the
speaker, as they are removed from their responsibilities. The hospital room is void of any distractions
and The peacefulness is so big it dazes you,/ And it asks nothing (32,33). By the room asking nothing,
its quietness does not demand anything and this is freeing for the speaker, as they are disconnected
from their responsibilities. The tulips remind the speaker of their life and their mortality, as they
observe the speaker. The speaker has been left alone in the room, but once the tulips arrive the speaker
realizes that Nobody watched [her] before, now [she is] watched./ The tulips turn to [her] (43, 44).
The speaker, alone in the room, is free from any connections to the outside world until the tulips from
her family arrive. The tulips, staring at the speaker, remind them that they do have responsibilities
outside of the peaceful room. The speaker, alone in the room, is free from any connections to the
outside world until the tulips from there family arrive. The tulips

Analysis Of Conflict In The Bullet In The Brain By Tobias...
Analysis of Conflict In the short story, The Bullet in the Brain, by Tobias Wolff, we meet a book critic
who ends up meeting his demise as a result of being sarcastic with a bank robber who is not on the
same educational level as Anders. The conflict of the story is that experiences throughout Anders life
has hardened him and made him jaded. Which makes Anders pessimistic and dark to people around
him.
One of the first examples in this short story by Wolff, conveying an example of how life has hardened
Anders and how he reacts to daily situations with a different perspective .In this quote, Anders is
sarcastically equating the lane closing to these terrible things as a result of the two ladies complaining
about one of the tellers closing her lane at the bank, Damned unfair, he said. Tragic really. If they re
not chopping off the wrong leg, or bombing your ancestral village, They re closing their positions...
Unforgiveable, Anders said. Heaven will take note. (1). In this excerpt from the book, Anders is being
satirical to these ladies, because of how he believes they are being overdramatic about a small thing,
that is a minor inconvenience in the grand scheme of things. I definitely have been on both sides of
this encounter, in other places, that are pretty minor, yet I overreacted and realized how stupid it was
or thought the other person was being dramatic about a small annoyance.
As a part of Anders going through life and reading many books, he has a higher

Ritual Purification In Shinto Religion
Ritual purification is a part of various religions and is the most basic practice of life in the Shinto
religion for those who are followers. the main focus for the practice of purification is to get rid of the
impurities within the body and soul of the individual regarding anything that the person does for each
day , and specifically before they practice daily devotions. The negativity that one is attempting to
dispose of is not the same as physical impurity, for example, either garbage or dirt. Harae or Harai is
one of four vital components included in Shinto religion. The main focus of the ritual is to get rid of
pollution, sins the person has committed, and any uncleanliness. The idea of Harae incorporates bad
luck, guilt, as well as disease. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Shinto they focus on 4 main ideals which include cleanliness, brightness, balance, what is right.
Thought the practice of these ideals that Shintos make part of their everyday life it is reflected through
all four ideals. Every so often things can become unstable in a individuals physical environment,
spirit, and mind so they must restore their balance these everyday rituals of purification and
cleanliness. The most important ritual is misogi which is quite similar to Harae which of course is
consisting of purification through water and can take place where water is present. Just like Harae a
priest will wave a stick with streamers but he waves the stick over a shrine and then waves over the
individual who are apart of the ceremony. The priest gets rid of all bad and negative impurities
affecting the individual to give them a property and balance. In this tradition the cleansing of
impurities is like a basic necessity of life for the Shinto. The individuals who are partaking in the
ceremony wash their hands and face before coming in contact with the shrine. The priest who is
holding the ceremony cleansing the path that leads to the shrine so no impurities reach the altar when
they reach it. Then the worshipers must make an offering of fresh fruit to present to the

The Jealousy Of Honest Iago In Shakespeare s Othello

People of all sorts make discouraging remarks, doing things to seek revenge and to take and

Iago manipulates the weakness of his susceptibility to alcohol causing him to start a fight early on in
the play, causing Cassio s demotion as lieutenant. Iago also manipulates Cassio s charming nature and
handsome appearance in order to make Othello jealous of Cassio, as he seems to be the perfectly
white and charming, The Venetian war hero whilst Othello is not. Iago uses Roderigo throughout the
play to do Iago s dirty work. As Iago seeks control between the two and uses their weakness to
manipulate them and executes them perfectly to get whatever he wants. Which in this case he wants to
ruin Othello s heart by using Desdemona to turn on him to seek revenge. Now for the prized jewel
piece Desdemona, Iago s golden ticket. Iago by now knows that he should finally make the last moves
before his plan is finally executed. Within the shadows he finally gets to Desdemona. His I deal plan
to mess with Othello is by making her sound like she has been sleeping with other men such as
Roderigo and Cassio. Iago is able to create gross and vivid images of Desdemona with Cassio, which
cause Othello such torment that he has a seizure. This is shocking for the audience as we see Othello
lose both physical and mental control at the word of Iago who implies that Cassio will Lie ... with her,
on her; what you will. He uses this and makes it seem like Desdemona is sleeping with Cassio to draw
attention to Desdemona. Iago convinces Othello that he over hears Cassio and Desdemona s
relationship and that they have been seeing each other.Iago has convinced Desdemona that she should
appeal to Othello to reinstate Cassio. She is not aware of Othello s suspicions of a union between her
and Cassio, and unwittingly angers him until he strikes her, And kills

Anger Rumination Psychology
Anger experience is a basic emotion which predisposes sense of threat and negative appraisal (Oatley,
1992). These experiences and cognitive appraisals activate or increases anger rumination (Rusting
Nolen Hoeksema, 1998). Repetitively unavoidable thinking about anger provoking experiences has
been considered as the main characteristic of anger rumination (Sukhodolosky et al., 2001; Watkins,
2004) affects mental health indicators. Thus, it can be said that anger decreases psychological well
being and on the other hand increases psychological distress through activating and increasing anger
rumination.

Emily Grierson s Resistance Of Change
The story of Emily Grierson is a hauntingly gothic approach on the resistance of change. It starts out
announcing Emily s funeral is an obligation for the town and the process of the selfish people who
would only go for their own benefit. The reader is then transported through time over decades of this
southern woman s life while learning about her strange habits and how she became the conversation of
many in the town. Everyone has quirks. Emily s just aren t the normal ones typically heard from a
neighbor. Refusing to pay taxes, buying giant amounts of poison, and even having a house that
radiates an odor even from the outside. After her funeral, the town discovers Emily s dark past and
how everything was much worse than they imagined. Emily was an interesting woman. Her habits
drew attention from everybody in town and was the hot topic for conversation. Yet, nobody knew
anything more about Emily other than the gossip spreading around. The selfishness of the commotion
of a new thing to say poor Emily for had become very worn out by the time her funeral came around,
which caused even more discussion. People poured into her abandoned house for the funeral, but not
for the normal reasons. The only motivation these people had was nobody had seen the inside of her

Elephant the movie Essay
Gus Van Sant s Elephant was at once critically praised and denounced by both film reviewers and
filmgoers alike. The cinematography takes you on a waltz throughout a seemingly typical day at an
unnamed high school, stopping through the journey to focus on the stereotypes of school. The jock,
the quirky artist, the cliqued girls, the skateboarder, they are all represented and representative of his
film. Van Sant created a film, seemingly without a staunch opinion on the horrors of the Columbine
shootings. The movie seems distanced from the actors and their actions: an unaware participant from
the tranquil introduction to the gruesome climax. His seeming lack of a purpose, lack of a reason for
the creation of this film, is exactly the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Van Sant s film aestheticizes the reality of high school, focusing on its beauty and character, and
ignoring the underlying grime inherent on most campuses. The halls and yard of the school are kept in
immaculate condition, staying unnaturally clean, almost sterile for a school. Despite this seeming
glorification of the building, the hallways are kept as a constant secondary to the sharply focused
characters the camera constantly follows. It takes the focus away from the bare walls and empty
hallways and places it solely on the students. The film isn t about the location that it occurred, but the
people that it happened to. The focus is on the students of the film, both literally and figuratively. The
camera seems to never stop moving, save for brief pauses that seem to rest the viewer. There is little
extraneous distraction from the characters as they walk down the hall; the only time something
distracts from the center of attention is when it is repeated again as the film goes through its several
cycles that repeat scenes from different points of view.
The film intertwines the lives of its multiple points of view. They all seem to be unrelated, but they
ultimately tie together in a cohesive storyline that unravels into its unavoidable conclusion. Each
person follows his or her own timeline until it reaches the point

Gender Stereotypes In The Sitcom American Dad
American Dad is an animated TV sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt

put a twist on the average family by exaggerating each member s role. The main characters in the
series are Stan Smith who plays the father, Francine Smith playing the mother, Roger who is an alien
and must disguise himself to keep from being noticed, Steve Smith who is the son, Hayley Smith the
liberal daughter, and Klaus Heissler who plays a german olympic ski jumper trapped in the form of a

It seems as if it is taboo to talk about women s menstruals especially around males but when it comes
to everything else dealing with women and their bodies, men would engage in the discussion and care
about the topic at hand. Francine continues to show Stan that they could save money and he
continuously ignored her requests. This is an example of how women are deemed more responsible
and conservative than men. Stan was so focused on his truck meanwhile Francine was focused on
what would help the entire household. The last example that I pulled from this episode about women
was when the daughter, Hayley Smith was talking to Klaus about convincing her father to turn him
back into a human. Klaus was upset with her for stating her opinion because she is a female and she is
a liberal therefore, anything that she says to her father will not be considered. This is another
stereotype that females are unstable and do not make good decisions which is something that the

  • 2. Horror Narrative Essay The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most connected with that of ridiculousness. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to convey to the audience. Even when writers layer the genre with academic thoughts on psychology, theology and the world in which we live in, horror remains the primary outlet to examine the notions of dread, uncertainly, mysterious and the abject. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist (Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading the boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult followings and mixed reviews. In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In (Thorne 2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will lead the early part of the season. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror cinema, it can actually outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is live. The question for the stage though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage without the magic of high expensive technical effects? Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol, which presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed emphasis on ... Although regarded as the `most populated city in the United States, the whole city has something interesting to offer everyone. It is sub divided into five boroughs , being Queens , The Bronx , Brooklyn , Manhattan , and Staten Island respectively .The landmarks in New York city are known all over the world . Walking down the Manhattan streets, it s almost customary to smell the smoke of exhaust from thousands of cars. The smoke coming from Subway stations underneath the roads can get to your nostrils quicker than it can be seen. It almost makes you feel like if you are a big giant walking along houses under your feet that have smoke coming out of their chimneys. At the same time the smell of hotdogs stands, salted pretzel stands make you aware of their presence as your smell sensors go crazy, and start telling your brain to get some. You can try your best but the smell from Italian pizzerias will sure pull you in for a slice or two even if you are not a pizza lover. Then you have the fresh smell of different fruits coming from the fruit stands on the streets, reminding you that New York City even has choices for everyone even for healthy conscious ones. I lived and liked Brooklyn borough of New York City because it has so many Pakistani people, that it s called Little Pakistan. There you will find tasty Indo Pakistani food. • 4. Research Paper On New England Colonies The New England colonies consisted of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. These colonies were settled by Puritans in the 1600s. The tension between Puritans and the Church of England caused England to divide, and the Puritans decided to go to the New World. They left their native lands to go to a place where they could practice their religion without getting in trouble (OER Textbook Settling New England ). The Middle colonies were New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware. These colonies were the most diverse and had the best economy. New York was founded after the English conquered the land from the Dutch. After taking it, they renamed it New York after the Duke of York. The land was later split and formed the ... • 5. Comparing Brazilian Culture To American Culture Brazil is a country located in the North Eastern and Eastern section of South America. It is the fourth largest country in the world and fifth most populous, holding over 200 million people, which also accounts for one third of South America s entire population. (The World Factbook: Brazil 2018) Because of its huge size, Brazil receives millions of tourists each year; which makes it important to understand how to evaluate Brazilian culture and their way of communication. The culture of Brazil is one of the most diverse cultures in the world due to its long history of colonizers and explorers. The first European settlers to arrive in the now Brazilian area (A Brief History of Brazil, n.d.), were the Portuguese led by Pedro Cabral ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first dimension in Hofstede s cultural dimensions is the power distance. This is the degree in which people in a particular culture view the unequal distribution of power as acceptable (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a much higher belief in power distance than the United States. In Brazil there is a large power distance, which means that they believe that each person has a place in the social hierarchy, that authorities should not be challenged, that hierarchy and inequality are appropriate and actually benefit the society (Comparing Brazilian Culture to American Culture, n.d.). This is very different to American culture because America was founded on challenging the government. Our constitution was made so that we can challenge our government and keep its power in check, so the government does not abuse its power. Most Americans also believe that inequality is bad for our country. We have gone through many periods of inequality in this country and we look back on them to see what we did wrong and how we can do better now as to not repeat our mistakes. Another dimension is the uncertainty avoidance, Cultures vary in how much they tolerate and accept unpredictability (McCornack, 2015). Brazil has a high uncertainty avoidance culture. Cultures like Brazil make rigid rules and set regulations to try and cut down on uncertainty. This can be seen in their history of military leaders as leaders of the country. Brazil is a high context society, which means they put a strong emphasis on how the message is said rather than focusing on the words used alone. Examples of this include Brazilians will sometimes exaggerate a point but it will be done in a way that the others know it to be an exaggeration. Brazil is also a collectivistic culture. This means that Brazilians emphasize group identity, interpersonal harmony, and the well being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Ronald Reagan Challenger Disaster Analysis On the morning of January 28, 1986, a tragedy struck the United States when the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded just moments after liftoff on national television. Approximately 74 seconds into its flight, the shuttle erupted into flame and was totally enveloped in the explosive burn before breaking apart, killing all seven astronauts aboard. The Rogers Commission, appointed by President Ronald Reagan to investigate the disaster, later concluded that the accident occurred due to the failure of an O ring seal in the right solid rocket booster of the shuttle.1 Saddened by the event, Reagan postponed his annual State of the Union address and instead gave a national address on the disaster the night of the incident. Within his address, Reagan expresses his condolences to the families of the crew and reminds everyone that we re still pioneers despite that we ve grown used to the idea of space. Notably, he spoke to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the quotes express the viewer s shock at the disaster while others convey a sense of loss. The article also touches on the complacency of NASA leading up to the disaster and refers to a quote which states that one of the biggest outcomes from the tragedy was the recommendation that NASA needed a stronger safety organization. Though Cindy and Tom did not recall specific details of conversations they had with others about the Challenger disaster, their feelings and opinions are mirrored in many of the quotes found in Vaidyanathan s article. • 7. Maryland Rule 5-901 Document Analysis Johnson further maintains that the circuit court erred by admitting documents that were not properly authenticated. The State counters that the appearance and contents of each of the documents contained sufficient information from which the factfinder could have reasonably concluded that the document was what the State purported it to be. We hold that the documents admitted against Johnson were properly authenticated. Maryland Rule 5 901 provides that generally: The requirement of authentication or identification as a condition precedent to admissibility is satisfied by evidence sufficient to support a finding that the matter in question is what its proponent claims. Md. Rule 5 901(a). In order for evidence to be properly authenticated, the trial judge must determine that there is proof from which a reasonable juror could find that the evidence is what the proponent claims it to be. Sublet v. State, 442 Md. 632, 638 (2015). Indeed, the purpose of Md. Rule 5 901 is to ensure that the evidence s proponent has satisfied a burden of production sufficient to permit a reasonable fact finder to conclude the evidence is what its proponent claims it to be. The first step, embalming and anatomical dissection, is a process involving halting decay by pumping formalin into the body through the arteries. The formalin will kill the bacteria throughout our bodies and chemically stops the decay of the tissue. Than, using dissection tools, the skin and fatty and connective tissues are removed to prepare the individual anatomical structures. The second step, removal of body fat and water, is a process which water and soluble fats are dissolved from the body by placing it into a solvent bath (which is basically called an acetone bath.) • 10. “Evaluate the Claim That Religious Language Is... In the debate about religious language, it is important that broadly speaking, there are two types of language, cognitive and non cognitive. Cognitive language conveys facts i.e. things that we can know or be cognisant of. Non cognitive language conveys information that is not factual; feelings and emotional claims. Those who believe that religious language is non cognitive and so meaningless stem their beliefs from the Logical Positivist. The Logical Positivists were a group of philosophers who were primarily concerned with the truth contained in statements we can make, or in other words, with what can be logically posited, or stated. The group began in Vienna, Austria in the 1920s and gathered around a philosopher called Moritz ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brian Davies further argued that the verificationism principle itself is unverifiable; one cannot verify whether it is true or false and therefore by its own criteria, it is meaningless. Both Ward and Davies s arguments significantly weaken verificationism. Hick argued that statements are eschatologically verifiable, so that after someone dies, they can verify all the statements they made when they were alive, however this is a weak argument against verificationism, and it does not weaken the verification principle as much as Hick and Davies. One other philosopher who was influenced by the Logical Positivists (alongside Karl Popper) was Anthony Flew. Flew believed that when you assert something, you are also asserting (whether you like it or not) that there are facts/evidence that may count against your assertion. His Falsification principle proposed that a statement was meaningless if no sense experience could count against it; a statement is meaningful if it is known what empirical evidence could count against it. Flew uses the parable of the gardener to illustrate his point; Two explorers return to come across a garden in which had grown flowers and weeds. They have often been associated with a misogynistic stereotype. I have chosen three literary texts to compare the descriptions of women; Snow White , Sonnet 130 by William Shakespeare and The Rape of the Lock by Alexander Pope. This will draw attention to the way that women are often portrayed as we see the common ingredients in their descriptions, as well as any potential differences between them. We can see a clear contrast in the description of Little Snow White and the mistress from Sonnet 130 , to the point that they are almost the antithesis of each other. An example of this is their skin. Little Snow White is said to be white as snow (line 8), whereas the sonnet says If snow be white, why then [the mistress ] breasts are dun (line 3). Another example is their cheeks, where the mistress is said to have no such roses (line 6) in her cheeks, Little Snow White is described as rosy as blood ( line 8). Finally there is a distinct variation in the description of their hair, although in both cases black, Little Snow White s is described as being black as ebony (line 9) where the mistress hair is said to be black wires , the choice of simile is extremely different, ebony being a luxurious and presumably beautiful material and wires being supposedly common and ugly. The three portrayals of female beauty are conflicting, with Belinda s being purely artificial, like a façade, Little Snow White s being natural, and the mistress being apparently non existent. With these descriptions go three opposing perceptions of women. The first two are extremely misogynistic; The Rape of the Lock ridicules them as vain, shallow people, Snow White objectifies them by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. The Theme Of Inequality In Chloe Neill s Veil As humans, our natural instincts for categorization give us a sense of safety a sense of being in control. Even from the beginning, children are trained to understand which blocks fit into which slots, and where things are supposed to be put away. We find satisfaction in categorizing things even when we don t realize we are doing it, such as with people. Thus creating the recent raging topic of inequality. Not to say inequality has not been present since the beginning. However, it is only in relatively recent times that people have started to stand up and fight for their well deserved rights. These people are enervated by the lines drawn between themselves and others. Most of life consists of stereotyping others to understand them with a simple and formative ideal, but people are much more complex than a single idea. We should not be afraid of the differences that stand between one and another, but rather recognize it and use it for mutual growth. By understanding why we are different, we will no longer live in fear. In Chloe Neill s book, Veil, she combines the perpetual workings of this fear and how the people affected by it react to its power. The most important ritual is misogi which is quite similar to Harae which of course is consisting of purification through water and can take place where water is present. Just like Harae a priest will wave a stick with streamers but he waves the stick over a shrine and then waves over the individual who are apart of the ceremony. The priest gets rid of all bad and negative impurities affecting the individual to give them a property and balance. In this tradition the cleansing of impurities is like a basic necessity of life for the Shinto. The individuals who are partaking in the ceremony wash their hands and face before coming in contact with the shrine. The priest who is holding the ceremony cleansing the path that leads to the shrine so no impurities reach the altar when they reach it. These experiences and cognitive appraisals activate or increases anger rumination (Rusting Nolen Hoeksema, 1998). Repetitively unavoidable thinking about anger provoking experiences has been considered as the main characteristic of anger rumination (Sukhodolosky et al., 2001; Watkins, 2004) affects mental health indicators. Thus, it can be said that anger decreases psychological well being and on the other hand increases psychological distress through activating and increasing anger rumination. • 35. Emily Grierson s Resistance Of Change The story of Emily Grierson is a hauntingly gothic approach on the resistance of change. It starts out announcing Emily s funeral is an obligation for the town and the process of the selfish people who would only go for their own benefit. The reader is then transported through time over decades of this southern woman s life while learning about her strange habits and how she became the conversation of many in the town. Refusing to pay taxes, buying giant amounts of poison, and even having a house that radiates an odor even from the outside. After her funeral, the town discovers Emily s dark past and how everything was much worse than they imagined. Emily was an interesting woman. Her habits drew attention from everybody in town and was the hot topic for conversation. Yet, nobody knew anything more about Emily other than the gossip spreading around. The selfishness of the commotion of a new thing to say poor Emily for had become very worn out by the time her funeral came around, which caused even more discussion. People poured into her abandoned house for the funeral, but not for the normal reasons. The only motivation these people had was nobody had seen the inside of her house for quite some time. • 36. Elephant the movie Essay Gus Van Sant s Elephant was at once critically praised and denounced by both film reviewers and filmgoers alike. The cinematography takes you on a waltz throughout a seemingly typical day at an unnamed high school, stopping through the journey to focus on the stereotypes of school. The jock, the quirky artist, the cliqued girls, the skateboarder, they are all represented and representative of his film. Van Sant created a film, seemingly without a staunch opinion on the horrors of the Columbine shootings. The movie seems distanced from the actors and their actions: an unaware participant from the tranquil introduction to the gruesome climax. His seeming lack of a purpose, lack of a reason for the creation of this film, is exactly the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Van Sant s film aestheticizes the reality of high school, focusing on its beauty and character, and ignoring the underlying grime inherent on most campuses. The halls and yard of the school are kept in immaculate condition, staying unnaturally clean, almost sterile for a school. Despite this seeming glorification of the building, the hallways are kept as a constant secondary to the sharply focused characters the camera constantly follows. It takes the focus away from the bare walls and empty hallways and places it solely on the students. The film isn t about the location that it occurred, but the people that it happened to. The focus is on the students of the film, both literally and figuratively. The camera seems to never stop moving, save for brief pauses that seem to rest the viewer. There is little extraneous distraction from the characters as they walk down the hall; the only time something distracts from the center of attention is when it is repeated again as the film goes through its several cycles that repeat scenes from different points of view. The film intertwines the lives of its multiple points of view. They all seem to be unrelated, but they ultimately tie together in a cohesive storyline that unravels into its unavoidable conclusion. Each person follows his or her own timeline until it reaches the point ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Gender Stereotypes In The Sitcom American Dad American Dad is an animated TV sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker, and Matt Weitzman to characterize the different members of an american family. MacFarlane and his colleagues put a twist on the average family by exaggerating each member s role. The main characters in the series are Stan Smith who plays the father, Francine Smith playing the mother, Roger who is an alien and must disguise himself to keep from being noticed, Steve Smith who is the son, Hayley Smith the liberal daughter, and Klaus Heissler who plays a german olympic ski jumper trapped in the form of a fish. The idea for American Dad was born during the election period in which the Bush administration was prevalent. The creators were frustrated with the battle amongst potential presidents, especially with Bush and they decided to create a show to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It seems as if it is taboo to talk about women s menstruals especially around males but when it comes to everything else dealing with women and their bodies, men would engage in the discussion and care about the topic at hand. Francine continues to show Stan that they could save money and he continuously ignored her requests. This is an example of how women are deemed more responsible and conservative than men. Stan was so focused on his truck meanwhile Francine was focused on what would help the entire household. The last example that I pulled from this episode about women was when the daughter, Hayley Smith was talking to Klaus about convincing her father to turn him back into a human. Klaus was upset with her for stating her opinion because she is a female and she is a liberal therefore, anything that she says to her father will not be considered. This is another stereotype that females are unstable and do not make good decisions which is something that the creators try to play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
