Overview of SK Telecom in South Korea
Defining the Problem
The position with SK Telecom in South Korea seemed like a dream job for Linda Myers, who would
become one of the first American female executives in the South Korea (p. 124). Yet Myers, and her
organization, underestimated the importance of understanding the nuances of Korean culture. Myers
had worked abroad as an expatriate before and assumed that all countries outside the United States
would pose similar challenges. She was wrong to make this assumption. Although she d been in new
cultural situations before, this one seemed more difficult to navigate, (p. 124). If Myers had been more
willing to consider what Korean business culture would be like, she might have avoided some of the
problems that occurred. Her experience prepping clients to work for Western multinationals in China
and other countries did not easily translate to her situation in Korea, showing the importance of
treating each situation, and each new country or culture, differently (p. 126).
The problem is not Myers alone, though. She had no official orientation and no detailed guidance
from her superiors, (p. 124). This is an organizational issue, stemming from poor management
decisions related to human resources. Moreover, Myers felt isolated, as she was not given any
opportunity to form relationships with her new colleagues in Seoul (p. 124). Moreover, human
resources managers failed to choose someone who might better fit in with the Seoul business culture
than Myers, if

Reflection Paper On Dance
As I reflect on my third semester at The University of Kentucky, I am reminded of how Ballet One, or
TAD 142, has impacted me as a dancer. I have discovered my strengths and grown in my skill, as well
as discovered areas that still need improvement.Initially, I found my interest in dance through my
passion in the performing arts, specifically color guard. My interest in dance pushed me to enroll in
two dance classes at my university, ballet one, as well as an additional course, introduction to dance.
In the future I plan on furthering my dance education by pursuing a minor in dance, that could
eventually effect my future job endeavors. Prior to this class, I spent seven years participating in color
guard. Each season of color guard required an audition. Looking back on each audition, I find a
pattern in the process, which later bled into my performance focus. With every audition and
performance, my priority was to take the spotlight. Once I knew every eye in the audience was on me,
I would do my best to make sure my face was telling the story. As I look back on these moments, I
realize that I no longer perform this way. I believe this change is explained simply by my confidence. I
do not feel as confident in my current dance classes as I was in color guard. Throughout my
experience in color guard I found happiness not only in the performance aspect but also in the body
and movement beneath the equipment. Rehearsal would typically begin with a stretching block,

The Medium Of Art By Leonardo Da Vinci s Mona Lisa
Of all the creative mediums in existence, of which there are a plethora to discover, the medium of Art,
although recognized by most as a legitimate creative medium, is one of the most controversial.
However, in the subject of practical artwork, sculptures, paintings, and performance artworks, the idea
of a definitive artwork is almost non existent. Although there are artworks that exist, such as Leonardo
da Vinci s Mona Lisa, which are known seemingly universally (Torov, 2011), there are few critics or
viewers who can explain just what exactly constitutes it as a good artwork. This investigation appears
to become universal to many other artworks, an argument that arises between technical mastery,
motives, and meaning, if any at all. That is to say that interpretation battles against visual
astonishment. However, although the visuals are by far the most striking part of almost any artwork,
the first thing that most look for beyond the visual elements is the story being told within the visuals.
It is for this reason that many war time, or significant event paintings are remembered; it s well
known, and is a story that is being told constantly through all mediums, within the realm of out, and
outside that same realm. Untitled (Perfect Lovers) by Felix Gonzalez Torres Felix Gonzlaez Torres is
known throughout the art world as being one of those most creative and unique artist, particularly for
his instalment artworks, minimalistic style and the ability to create what he

How Does Elie Wiesel Change Throughout The Book Night
Elie Wiesel: Transformation Throughout Night
Night is a memoir on how surviving the holocaust could change a person3. The book Night, by Elie
Wiesel, involves mostly himself (Elie Wiesel) and his father, and how he survived the holocaust, along
with death camps Auschwitz/Birkenau, Buna, Gleiwitz, and Buchenwald. This memoir shows how
Elie manages to survive the holocaust, while in a concentration camp. Surviving the holocaust
changed Elie Wiesel forever. Although Elie Wiesel s experience has affected him, it has had a negative
effect on him. As he says Never shall I forget that smoke. Never shall I forget the small faces of the
children whose bodies I saw transformed into smoke under a silent sky. (Wiesel 34) This shows that
Eliezer will never forget the troubles, and horrors that he experienced in the concentration camp.
Another thing that Eliezer says is, I shall never forgive them for this. (Wiesel 39) This ... Show more

A trait that was changed from Eliezer is the fact that he now thinks of himself, instead of others.
Hence, when it says in the book, I tried to protect myself from the blows by hiding behind others.
(Night 40) This shows that after Eliezer has been in the concentration camp for a long time, he starts
to let other people be beat, and take shots in order to preserve his own well being. He changed in order
to protect himself from the nazis, and to stop from not surviving. Another thing that Eliezer changed in
order to survive was his protectiveness over his father. When it says in the book, I had made my mind
to accompany my father wherever he went. This helps to show that Eliezer feels more fond of his
father, and he knows that if he dies, his father will die too. Therefore Eliezer accompanies his father
everywhere to stay close to him, and to go on with him in order to keep him alive, and make sure he is

Dell Computer And The World s 500 Largest Companies

proactively solve customer support issues. They monitor consumer trends for potential research and

introduction are critical to gaining competitive advantage since it determines the speed with which a
firm responds to market opportunities and its success in attaining market share. Accelerating new
product development may be used to extend product life cycles, to alter the stance of the firm, and
gain ground against slower competitors. Leading edge companies stress incremental innovation as

Essay on Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism
There are many essays, papers and books written on the concept of right and wrong. Philosophers
have theorized about moral actions for eons, one such philosopher is John Stuart Mill. In his book
Utilitarianism he tries to improve on the theories of utilitarianism from previous philosophers, as he is
a strong believer himself in the theory. In Mill s book he presents the ideology that there is another
branch on the utilitarian tree. This branch being called rule utilitarianism. Mill makes a distinction
between two different types of utilitarianism; act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. Rule
utilitarianism seems like a major advance over the simple theory of act utilitarianism. But for all its
added complexity, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the instance when an individual steals from another individual for his/her own self happiness,
others in society cannot deem this to be justifiable, even if it may be more beneficial to the thief to
steal. Act utilitarianism does not guarantee the protection to the victim of theft in this example
because, it s more focused on the greatest happiness and not on the consequences for others happiness.
The greatest happiness may be given to either person in this situation depending on the stories of each
(i.e. the reason for thief). Therefore, the idea of right seems not to be absolute. Mill however,
recognizes this as a problem and introduces the theory of rule utilitarianism to compensate. Instead of
looking at the consequences of a particular act, rule utilitarianism determines the rightness of an act by
an alternative mean. That mean consists of first finding the best rule of conduct, this is done by
finding the values of the consequences that follow a particular rule; The best rule is the rule, which has
the greatest overall result of any given action. Hence, one must follow the actual rules of one s society.
To illustrate, one ought not to steal because it is societies laws. Solving the issue of not recognizing
the victims happiness due to the fact, according to Mill, that these laws are based on morally right
objectives. However, rule utilitarianism is just an impotent way around the problem presented by the

The Habitat Of Southern Toads
Abby Buren, Sheridan Dillon Robinson, Amber Hancock, Brett Shannon
Identifying the preferred habitat of southern toads
Introduction
St. Andrews university is a 500 acre campus consisting of many aquatic habitats, ideal for amphibians
such as frogs and toads. Amphibians are susceptible to changes in the environment and are indicators
of environmental diversity and success as well as identifiers of pollutants in the environment
(Marshall, 2013). We were interested in the prefered conditions for local toad and frog species on St.
Andrews campus, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Some aquatic environments include lakes,
ponds, creeks and a Carolina Bay. We hypothesised that toad and frog populations will be denser at the
Carolina Bay because the area provides acoustics, ideal for calling mates and also has a lot of surface
area that allows for solar heating that increases metabolism that would allow for quicker development
(metamorphosis) as well as having lots of areas to lay eggs, due to mating and offspring
developmental requirements. Frogs and toads are external fertilizers and the females lay their eggs in
the water and the males fertilize the eggs. Also, once the eggs hatch depending on the species they will
spend the first month or so of their lives in water as a tadpole until they metamorphosize into frogs or
toads. Due to this, they are more likely to be in aquatic areas during mating seasons (Partymiller, L.).
Out of the many toad and frog species in the area, we

The Three Plays Of The Oresteia
Throughout the three plays of the Oresteia, justice takes many different shapes and forms as various
characters attempt to justify their otherwise morally questionable actions. In particular, the Oresteia
portrays a transformation from an older, more primitive form of justice, to a new concept of civil
justice devised by Athena. Aeschylus emphasizes this contrast between the old and new orders, and
the differing philosophies of both with the older justice of the Furies and Clytemnestra taking on a
more individual connotation, while that of Athena and the new gods is formed around the community.
As such, while Clytemnestra carries out her justice primarily based upon her own judgement of right
and wrong, justice at the end of the Eumenides is ultimately delivered based on the convictions and
beliefs of a collective community of jury members.
The primary source of contention in the Oresteia stems from Agamemnon s sacrifice of Iphigenia, in
turn fueling Clytemnestra s murder of Agamemnon during the events in Agamemnon which itself
leads to Orestes murder of Clytemnestra and Aegisthus. However, since Agamemnon and Orestes
were significantly and directly influenced by Artemis and Apollo, respectively, they ultimately did not
have much of an option in carrying out their actions. In contrast, Clytemnestra had little to no
influence at all from any god, and thus acted solely based on her own sense of justice in murdering
Agamemnon. Even moreso that that, Clytemnestra had the all

The Story Of An Hour And A Respectable Woman
Women s role in society has greatly changed since the 19th century, which is the time period that The
Story of an Hour and A Respectable Woman are set in. In these stories, Kate Chopin describes the
emotions of a woman after discovering that her husband is dead, as well as the internal conflict within
a woman who is tempted to cheat on her husband. They are both centered around independence in a
setting that does not typically promote such things for women. Therefore, with such outlandish
concepts for that time period, it is greatly indicative of the author s beliefs. Thus, The Story of an Hour
and A Respectable Woman reflect Kate Chopin s beliefs about marriage, societal expectations, and
female independence through the characterization of her female leads. Chopin makes her position on
marriage clear in her portrayal of a woman who has found out that her husband is dead. Despite
initially mourning him in The Story of an Hour, Louise Mallard is completely overjoyed after the
morbid discovery. She is so elated that she even chants to herself: Free, free, free! (Chopin 164). Any
sort of ambiguity about the chanted word is negated when the narrator explicitly states that, There
would be no one to live for her during those coming years; she would live for herself (Chopin 165).
Both of these quotes are highly suggestive about Chopin s beliefs. They portray marriage as a burden,
or as a punishment inflicted on a person rather than a union between two people in

Hop Frog Conflict
Unit 2 Essay
All authors have their own way of writing, but what they all have in common is conflict. Without
conflict a story is boring, also conflict can be used to reveal elements about characters. Edgar Allan
Poe, renowned poet and author, used conflict to reveal traits about characters in stories such as Hop
Frog or The Masque of the Red Death , as well as John Green in The Fault in Our Stars, one of his
most known pieces of writing. In Poe s story Hop Frog the main conflict was the King mistreated Hop
Frog and his friend Trippetta, so Hop Frog tricked the King and his seven ministers into dressing up as
ourang outangs and getting set on fire. In his other story The Masque of the Red Death the main
conflict was the Red Death, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first way that person vs death can develop a complex or interesting character is it gives them a
back story. For example, in The Fault in Our Stars the whole novel has cancer weaved into the whole
plot. Cancer, in this novel, can make people like Hazel, Gus, and Isaac strong by showing that their
whole life they ve been fighting to stay alive even if they fail, like Gus. Also, In Hop Frog his
disabilities also give him a background of his name. Another way that person vs death contributes to
the development of a complex character is it can show whether a character is scared of dying or
fearless. In The Masque of The Red Death Prince Prospero locks everyone not infected up in his castle
to party and keep the disease from getting in. Later, when the Red Death breaks in Prince Prospero
gets angry because he thinks someone is mocking him and chases after the Red Death, which is
characterized for other literary reasons. But, to almost everyone s surprise the Red Death kills Prince
Prospero. This can show many traits. For example, Prince Prospero could be considered light
tempered, or maybe that s because him and his kingdom was at risk of the disease, so he could also be
a protective prince. But in The Fault in Our Stars Hazel s sickness gave her a different perspective on
life and that mostly everything was a side effect

The Plague Of Athens By The Bacterium Yersina Pestis
Introduction Plague is an infectious disease that is caused by the bacterium Yersina pestis. Depending
on lung infection, or sanitary conditions, plague can be spread in the air, by direct contact, or very
rarely by contaminated undercooked food. The symptoms of plague depend on the concentrated areas
of infection in each person: bubonic plague in lymph nodes, septicemic plague in blood vessels,
pneumonic plague in lungs. It is treatable if detected early. Plague is still relatively common in some
remote parts of the world. Key Idea 1 The first plague talked about in this book is The Plague of
Athens . The Plague of Athens was a devastating epidemic which hit the city state of Athens in ancient
Greece during the second year of the Peloponnesian War when an Athenian victory still seemed within
reach. It is believed to have entered Athens through Piraeus, the city s port and sole source of food and
supplies. Much of the eastern Mediterranean also saw outbreak of the disease, albeit with less impact.
The plague returned twice more, in 429 BC and in the winter of 427/426 BC. Some 30 pathogens have
been suggested as causing the plague. Key Idea 2 The Black Death is thought to have originated in the
arid plains of Central Asia, where it then travelled along the Silk Road, reaching Crimea by 1343.
From there, it was most likely carried by Oriental rat fleas living on the black rats that were regular
passengers on merchant ships. Spreading throughout the Mediterranean and

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE This paper addresses the use of Porter s Five Forces model and how it
can benefit Broadway Cafe by identifying and analyzing the effect of these forces on its business. The
benefits include improved decision making, faster time to market, better productivity, improved
competitive advantage, more profits and greater customer satisfaction. It also helps in achieving
operational excellence. Porter s Five Forces Model Threat of Entrants Porter s First force is the threat
of Potential Entrants. Statistics have shown the industry to be slowing down, therefore making
competition high and the threat of new entrants low. Broadway Cafe has a small market presence, but

The supply of coffee is affected by weather conditions, and the health of coffee trees. According to the
article Coffee Industry to Adopt New Pricing Plans, the major players in the coffee industry have seen
profits decline because of over crowding of the market. An over crowded market will give the coffee
suppliers bargaining power. As Broadway Cafe demands high quality coffee and there is no
availability of substitutes for the coffee beans that Broadway Cafe use. Therefore, the bargaining
power of supplier increases. Threat of Substitute Products In the premium foods and coffees industry,
there are substitute products. According to Mary Coulter, the best way to evaluate this threat is to ask
whether other industries can satisfy the customer need that this industry is satisfying (Coulter). Other
beverage industries can satisfy the customer s need for a drink, and other food industries can satisfy
the customer s need to eat. There are obviously good substitutes to Broadway products and the threat
is high. This is why it is very important for Broadway Cafe, to innovate and differentiate. By
providing free Wi Fi in the Cafe and marketing signature food products from the famous old recipes of
Grandfather, Broadway Cafe can create different image than its competitors. Rivalry Among Existing
Competitors Porter s fifth force that Porter describes is current rivalry among existing firms. In the

Literary Analysis Of The Storm
Kate Chopin implies in the selection, The Storm that the setting and the plot reinforces each character
s action, but only two characters exemplify the title itself, Calixta and Alcee. The storm becomes the
central element of Alcee s unrequited love for Calixta and ultimately the instrument of their forbidden
love to each other. Hurston concurs in the The Storm that a forbidden relationship can become a
cancerous love and silent death sentence. The Storm s theme was based on Love, Immoral affair, and
Freedom. Chopin s technique of foreshadowing, symbolism, irony, tone, and imagery set the plot for
Alcee, Calixta, Bobinot, and Clarisse in this short story. A bolt struck a tall chinaberry tree at the edge
of the field. It filled all visible space with a blinding glare and crash seemed to invade the very boards
they stood upon (425). The writer used Imagery to depict how nature shook the foundation of their
respective marriages. The significance of the tall chinaberry tree that crashed the boards was that it
made Bobinot and Clarisse almost irrelevant in the story. The author used the metaphorical expression
to indicate how the storm schemed Bobinot and Clarisse out of the reckoning. The author employed
the use of symbolism in the description of the storm. Storm, a natural phenomenon that brings about
extreme weather condition that might lead to an undesirable outcome. The Storm in the context of the
selection brought about a positive outcome. The storm in the story is not the physical storm that
occurred outside with heavy downpour, but the coming together of Alcee and Bobinot. A physical
storm forms when the atmosphere is saturated with water and droplets of water pour out from the sky.
The symbolic importance of the storm represents the liberation of Alcee and Calixta, from the
shackles of societal or moral expectation. He pushed her hair back from her face that was warm and
streaming her (425). Although Alcee pushed Calixta s hair back to see her face, the author s
interpretation was not physical. Chopin meant that Alcee was able to set Calixta free from the bondage
of marriage temporarily. Bobinot played a major role in the plot that led to infidelity between Calixta
and Alcee.

Analysis Of Much Ado About Nothing
Adapting a William Shakespeare play can prove to be a challenge, as so many have done so, making it
difficult to stand apart. Accordingly, Plymouth State University added a modern twist to the play
Much Ado About Nothing, and, despite certain missteps, I considered it successful. Furthermore,
director Jessie Chapman not only changed the time period to a post World War I setting, but included
modern music as well. Accordingly, the costumes were changed to fit the era, including the soldiers
uniforms. Despite consisting of one location, the set design was convincing, and the actors used it
efficiently. Speaking of which, the majority of the cast lived up to the characters they portrayed, with
several standouts. The lighting design had its own intricacies, with the color of the background light
changing based on the time of day or when certain characters appear. The sound only played a role
when the background music played, of which I question the choices for music. Although the play
plodded during certain scenes, other scenes, like that of Benedick and Beatrice eavesdropping on
conversations, never ceased to entertain. Ultimately, the play served as a worthy adaptation of
Shakespeare s classic story.

An Absolute Athenian Tragedy Analysis
An absolute Athenian tragedy. The Sicilian Expedition of 413 415 BC was a decision that ultimately
lead to the complete exhaustion of Athenian manpower, navy, and crucial resources. This decimation
weakened the confidence of not only the Athenians, but of their allies as well. Within the long and
tiring story of the Peloponnesian War, it is the Sicilian Expedition in which leadership stands as a vital
factor in the end result. Besides the Athenians, Spartans did their job along side the Syracusans to
excel in this historic battle. The well regarded Spartan leader Gylippus was able to execute on his part

You see, a huge factor rises in the end of this predicament. The advance of the Roman empire, along
with the fate of the Western World, were essentially saved by the destruction of the Athenians at the
island of Sicily. I firmly claim this because if the expedition were to result positively for the
Athenians, themselves and all of Greece would have landed on a a goldmine in regards to fertile land
which is Sicily. All of Italy and beyond would have been under the heel of Greece and not of Rome.
For the lands such as North Africa, Iberia, and Gaul conquered by the Romans could potentially have
been done by Greeks. The influential defeat at Syracuse ended the great empire known as Greece and
history was shifted for the ages. After that battle, the Peloponnesian war would go on for another ten
years. From that point forward, Greece was mismanaged and misguided by many men who made
attempt to lead. Allies across Greece separated and the democracy in which this empire stood would
crumble and fall victim to an oligarchy. The Athenian expedition in Sicily exemplified Athens as a
tyrant looking to crush the allied thoughts that dared to stand against it. On a final note the expeditions

Game Of Thrones Misogyny Analysis
Game of Thrones: A Disguised Misogyny Game of Thrones is currently one of the most popular
television shows that airs on HBO. Throughout its seven season run, Game of Thrones has represented
gender and sexuality in ways that often tend to simultaneously propagate popular stereotypes and
downplay them at other times. In the drama, the characters can be shown to be representing distinctive
characteristics being feminine or masculine and so its society is generally viewed as misogynistic in
the way it is structured. As we know, how in our society today s women are so powerful and
successful still they are considered weaker sex and dominated by the men. This drama is a perfect
example of the issues women of our society face every day. The setting of the show is in Westeros and
Essos, two fictional continents which have been widely likened to the medieval ages. The show has
various plot lines centering on three main story arcs. The first focuses on the Iron Throne of the Seven
Kingdoms and pursues tangled conflicts and alliances among the monastic noble families who either
vie to claim the throne or fight to be independent from it. The second story arc concentrates on the
enduring brotherhood tasked with protecting the realm from age old threats and apocryphal creatures
from the far north, and an imminent winter which poses a threat to the entire realm. The third story arc
centers on the last descendant of the removed dynasty meant to rule the realm who is in exile and

Taking a Look at Niemann-Pick Disease
Niemann Pick disease an inherited condition involving lipid metabolism, which is the breakdown,
transport, and use of fats and cholesterol in the body is the condition in which abnormal lipid
metabolism causes harmful amounts of lipid to accumulate in parts of the body. There are 3 forms of
this disease: Type A, B, and C. The general focus of this paper will be Type C. Niemann Pick s disease
Type C (NPC) is disease in which unesterified cholesterol and other lipids accumulate in late
endosomes/lysosomes (LE/L) of all cells and tissues. Resulting in excessive amounts of cholesterol
accumulation within the liver and spleen and excessive amounts of other lipids accumulating in the
brain. The cause of NPC is quite distinct from A B whose patients have defects in their lysosomal acid
sphingomyelinase gene (3). On the contrary, NPC is a recessive, autosomal disorder that affects
around 1 in 150,000 births and causes premature death due to relentless neurodegeneration as well as
lung and liver dysfunction (4,5). NPC can further be divided into two subgroups known as C1 and C2,
which are each, caused by a different gene mutation. One of the many interesting features of this
disease is that symptoms may appear as early as childhood or as late as adulthood. The symptoms that
follow this disease are the inability to move ones eyes up and down, enlarged liver, enlarged spleen, or
jaundice in young children. But it is common for only one or two symptoms to appear in the early

5 Ways To Make A Nail Salon

1. Use Non Toxic Nail Polish One of the typical smells associated with manicures and pedicures is the

Store and Dispose of Products Safely Take care to store products away from the area where services
are provided. Make sure that tops are on tight. When seals on products have been compromised, store
in containers that prevent product vapors from evaporating into the air. Place empty product containers
in metal trash cans with lids to prevent further off gassing. Dump trash in an outside receptacle at least
once daily to avoid fumes from the small amount of product that may be left in the containers.
4. Use Ventilated Tables Make sure every technician has a work table with an exhaust fan vented to
the outside. Providing this kind of ventilation will immediately pull particles that result from sanding
and grinding of nails to the outside.
5. Filter the Air Continually Wearing a dust mask is an excellent safety precaution for a technician
when filing artificial nail enhancements. That mask does nothing to protect clients and other people in
the shop. It also does not eliminate vapors and chemicals fumes.
Using a purifier with both a high efficiency particle arresting (or HEPA) air purifier to take out fine
particulates, and a carbon based filter to remove chemical vapors from acetone based products,
solvents, glues, and disinfecting agents is the best way to keep the air in your nail salon clean and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Standardized Writing System
Writing has constituted an important practice in human culture since the earliest forms of writing were
discovered from cave paintings made 40,000 years ago. Writing enables writers to express themselves
in a writing system that conveys unique features of its associated culture. In this context, writing
means a standardized system for recording, in a specific language, content ranging from values to
ideas to poems, etc. Humans have communicated in thousands of languages throughout history and
consequently devised numerous different writing systems for expressing those languages. To facilitate
easier communication, it has sometimes been suggested that the world adopt a single writing system
capable of representing all languages. This essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is an over optimistic and naïve argument, however, for at least three reasons. Most particularly, a
standardized writing system might seem ideal, but it cannot overcome the enormous difficulties
brought about by requiring the world s citizens to learn a new writing system. This is because learning
writing systems is very challenging, laborious and time consuming (Tzeng Wang, 1983); this is even
more the case for adult learners, who might anyway see little benefit and much disadvantage from the
additional financial expense of learning a new writing system when they are already expert users of
their written language. A second reason why a universal writing system is ill advised is because
languages are living things that evolve slowly over time; there never can be a standard writing system
while cultures are continually developing new forms of expression. This can be seen from the fact that
the Chinese writing system has already undergone several evolutions over the centuries. Thirdly, the
argument for standardizing a writing system is naïve because it entails controversial political
decisions. No doubt the powerful nations of the East would prefer a logographic or a syllabic writing
system while their Western counterparts would prefer an alphabetic writing system. Each side would
therefore favour its existing writing system to minimize disruption and to ensure forms of cultural
hegemony. Taken together, these three arguments demonstrate the impracticality of a universal writing
system and highlight the difficulties such a system would

King Henry As A Good King In William Shakespeare s Henry V
What does it mean to be a king as compared to a man? William Shakespeare s work Henry V attempts
to answer this question with a title character who is both. King Henry s morality, defined by his deeply
complex character, rests precariously on the title he is defined by: should he be judged solely as a king
or also as a man? The label makes a difference. Through his actions and leadership during the play,
Henry proves himself to be a good king, one worthy of respect and admiration. However, at the same
time, the same actions do not always reveal a particularly good or virtuous man. Highlighting the
disparity between the two roles, Shakespeare intended for King Henry to be admired and respected as
a good king but not necessarily as a good man.
To understand this distinction, one must first recognize that the qualities that make up a good king
often diverge from those attributed to a good man. For example, to be considered a good man, one
might try to be forgiving and tolerant; however, to be a good king, one often has to be exactly the
opposite. Why does this make sense? It is not because a king is naturally unforgiving or refuses to take
the high road; instead, he has a higher purpose than to be kind to those immediately around him. To be
a good king, one cannot be an emotional creature, but instead be a calculating one. He should put the
needs of his kingdom above all other things, including his own desires or whims. A good king
recognizes that he must serve, protect, and

Benefits and Challenges of Play Therapy Essay
Play is a way for children to learn about their environment and how interaction occurs within. It is
through trial and error that children are able to create options; follow their own interests and show
independence in thought and actions using their knowledge and understanding (Moyles, 2005, p.3).
Children develop resilience though play. However for a number of children can experience stressful
occurrences during their lives and play can often be restricted. Therefore the play worker s role in
supporting children s play is a crucial measure towards children s development. For those that work
with children require the dexterity to prompt and contribute to children s play, which can be seen as a

In addition to play promoting pleasure as well as physical activity, play forms the holistic growth in
children s development, or to put it in another way using Brown (2003) acronym, acknowledged as
SPICE ; play represents the social interaction ; physical activity ; intellectual stimulation ; creative
achievement and emotional stability, (with the addition of compound flexibility ) in a child s
development. Compound flexibility is the idea that a child s psychological development occurs using
the relationship between his/her environment with the adaptability of the child himself. Thus the
flexibility of surroundings and his/her adaptableness can provide children the means to explore;
experiment and investigate (Brown, 2003, pp. 53 4). On the contrary, the absence of social interaction
and physical activity through the means of play can inhibit children s overall development and without
the consistency of play children suffer a chronic lack of sensory interaction with the world, [which
leads to] a form of sensory deprivation (Hughes, 2001, p.217 in Lester and Maudsley 2006). Research
conducted by Webb and Brown (2003) into the effects of hospitalised children ranging from between
the ages of one to ten years has ascertained that for these children who have been neglected with
limited social interaction, were compared to Harlow s 1960s research into neglected and social

portrayed from the very beginning as a fierce and violent soldier. As the play goes on, several internal

Eventually, Lady Macbeth calls for the guests to leave, seeing as her husband has sunk into utter
madness and, in her own words, displaced the mirth, broke the good meeting/ with most admired
disorder. (3.4. 132 133) Macbeth is now clearly losing his mind due to guilt and yet still plans to go
see the witches again. I will tomorrow/ (And betimes I will) to the Weird Sisters/ More shall they
speak, for now I am bent to know/ by the worst means the worst. (3.4.164 166) He is still being driven
by his ambition despite his collapse into insanity.
Macbeth takes his trip to the witches and it is there that he experiences his third hallucination, a four
part apparition that foretells his fate in an indefinite matter once again. The first apparition is an armed
head that tells him, Beware Macduff! /Beware the Thane of Fife! (4.1.81 82) Macbeth has already had
suspicions of Macduff and the apparition just confirms what he has already feared. The second
apparition, a bloody child, says, Laugh to scorn/ The power of man, for none of woman born/ shall
harm Macbeth. (4.1. 90 92) Macbeth rejoices to know that no man will beat him that was born of a
woman, and he assumes that Macduff was born of a woman. The third

The Dramaturgical Model Of Communication On The Use Of...
Introduction New media has been easily made available everywhere and Facebook in particular as one
of the world most popular social networking site (SNS) can be made accessible from desktops,
laptops, smartphones and tablet because of this, almost everybody can have access to Facebook
anywhere they go. For the most reason, due to the introduction of new media, Facebook plays a key
role communication and staying in touch with families, friends, acquaintances, businesses, groups
meetings and a whole lot of others. Moreover it has also been useful in growing markets and
advertising mediums through big companies, brands and highly respectable top class businesses. New
media as a broad topic can be defined as a form of communication which transmits information
through a medium that uses routers and servers via high speed internet and involves materials been
received via desktops, computers, tablets and smartphones . In this paper, I will like to convey how the
dramaturgical model of communication on the use of Facebook reveal how humans communicate their
identities using both front stage, back stage and impression management to have a perceived view
about the world as well as how it reflects people everyday lives. To begin with, the world s largest
Social media site (Facebook) has made it possible for your front stage, back stage and impression
management to be different due to the individual view of what they believe and how they manage
their social interactions with

God Reflection
Almost every day of my life, I ask myself the same question and that is: How will God be present in
my life today? The answer to this question changes every single day because God has a different plan
for me and all of the people that surround me. From what I have seen over the course of my life, I
have noticed that God s presence has always been there for me on my weakest days and my strongest.
During these times where I have experienced God watching over me, I feel that my relationship with
Him as strengthened and that my faith has grown as well. These moments in my life make me reflect
on what it truly means to have the presence of God in my life and how He helps me to grow and build
a deeper connection with those in my church, school, home, and especially the Holy Trinity. I know
that whatever I am doing today or tomorrow, wherever the path I am currently walking on takes me, I
should take just a moment to take in all that God has bestowed upon me. Over the course of my
existence my understanding and my beliefs about Christianity has tremendously changed because as
we grow older we have the ability to take in more knowledge than when we were young. When I was
a little kid my parents would take me to church every Sunday and my school would have us go to
mass every Wednesday as well, but as years have flown by me and my family go to church less and
less. I feel terrible that I can not attend church as often as I use to, but now that I am in high school I
have discovered

Pros And Cons Of The Witch Trials
Doctor William Beaumont discovered that gastric juices digest food by treating a gunshot patient who
s wound healed forming a hole. Nazis are bad. Nazis performed inhumane experiments on many
people they deemed as inferior . The Angel of Death Josef Mengele was fascinated with twins and
conducted many experiments on them because they were natural controls . In the 1930s, German
medical schools led such experiments in eugenics and promoted the concept of the Aryan purity.
Mengele performed experiments such as: blood transfusions between twins, stitched two twins
together as conjoined twins, electric shock, exposing women to high radiation subjecting them for
sterilization, and even tossing escaped Jewish children in pits of burning gasoline. He escaped war
criminal charges throughout the entirety of his life. After World War Two, German physicians pleaded
that what they had done should not be considered war crimes because they had only been following
orders and were not very different from what American physicians would do to captives. The
Nuremberg trials created ten principles for ethical experimentation and that anyone should freely
consent to participation. Similarly, American researchers experimented on orphans, inmates, mental
institution patients, and military personnel. Soldiers were unknowingly introduced to mustard gas
which was later tested as an anticancer drug. During times of war, protection of human rights was
undervalued. American physicians injected many

Anabolic Steroids In Sports
In society today, winning is considered everything. Man is always trying to beat their opponent no
matter what it takes. Some athletes are willing to do anything that could potentially be life threatening
in order to get their 15 seconds of fame. This something is known as anabolic steroids. Anabolic
steroids have come to improve many athletes physical activity, but also ruin an immense amount of
lives forever. Although it may give someone the power to feel good, be stronger, and build up more
muscle, the negative effects strongly outweigh the positives. All athletes dream big. They have the
desire to stand on the podium with a gold metal, receive an athletic award, or win the world
championships. Sometimes the desire to achieve gets so high ... Show more content on

Unfortunately, it is not completely uncommon for athletes to test positive for steroids. Amazing,
talented competitors like Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, and Lance Armstrong were all illegal users of
steroids. They did as many things as they could to not get caught, but eventually they did. Imagine all
of the die hard fans that found out that their favorite athlete cheated through sports. Kids look up to
athletes as role models and aspire to be like them one day, but the let down of discovering that an
athlete wasn t competing the way its body naturally could is devastating. Seeing all this success
through the use of steroids could actually promote people to use it. This is an extremely bad idea
because anabolic steroids ultimately lead to a path of physical and mental hopelessness. Anabolic
steroids can be extremely harmful. If the body is already producing a proper amount of testosterone,
there is no reason to be adding more. It is unhealthy for the body and results in abnormal effects.
Acne, liver disorders, blood pressure increase, possible HIV, sexual diseases, atrophy, infertility,
prostate enlargement, lower speaking voice, thinner hair, aggressive behavior, depression, and lower
hormonal levels are just a few of the side effects as a result of taking steroids. None of these are
positive, so why should athletes be using them if they have

Why Canada Is A Multicultural Country
Canada has always been a multicultural country. It is well known as a country that accepts diversity
and depending heavily on immigration for its population growth. The largest groups of immigrants to
Canada are from Asian and Middle Eastern countries. This fact has remained virtually unchanged
since the 2001 census (Potter et al., 2014, p.110). Although Canada demonstrates gender equality to
some degree among the various different cultures it has, however, gender inequality exists among
many countries. Gender inequality exits to a varying extent in all societies and differs over time,
across social and ethnic groups (Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010). In Saudi Arabia, the system of
governance is a monarchy, with its constitution governed by strict interpretation of the Islamic laws
(Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010). In Saudi Arabia, women s roles and rights can be evaluated by
examining the local interpretation of the Islamic laws, through: education, job opportunity, marriage,
polygamy and fertility (Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010).
Statistics shows that about 30% of Saudi women are illiterates, although, presently, there are more
female graduates than males in Saudi Arabia (Mobaraki, Söderfeldt, 2010). This is so, because, some
parts of Saudi Arabia (where nonreligious education was regarded as unsuitable for girls) initially
opposed the opening of schools for girls ((Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010).In addition to that, mixed sex
education is not allowed in Saudi Arabia (Mobaraki

The King Of The Egyptian Dynasty
Tutankhamun was the twelfth king of the 18th Egyptian dynasty. His reign can be seen as a period of
religious transition to the extent of that he reverted back to the traditional Egyptian religion after his
predecessor s radical revolution and laid the foundations for future rulers. However, it has been
observed that many of the actions that were made during his reign were not made by him, instead by
his advisors. Tutankhamun s reign can be seen as a period of religious transition but only to a certain
extent.
After Akhenaten s Amarna Revolution , Tutankhamun needed to gain the confidence of his people,
and did so by returning to the traditional, polytheistic religion of Egypt. The state of society and the
land that Tutankhamun was faced with is expressed in the Restoration Stela in Source 2, ...piles of
rubble and overgrown with weeds...the world was in chaos and the gods had turned their back on this
land...everything that had been, was destroyed. While the Restoration Stela has obvious elements of
embellishment as it is a form of propaganda to promote the king and his deeds, it provides an insight
into the world in which Tutankhamun reigned. It was one of Tutankhamun s first acts as pharaoh to
return to orthodoxy and to reinstate Amun as the supreme state god. It is unknown what the true
purpose of this was but historians have various theories. French Egyptologist, Christiane Desroches
Noblecourt argues that Tutankhamun was influenced and manipulated by his advisors,

  • 2. Overview of SK Telecom in South Korea Defining the Problem The position with SK Telecom in South Korea seemed like a dream job for Linda Myers, who would become one of the first American female executives in the South Korea (p. 124). Yet Myers, and her organization, underestimated the importance of understanding the nuances of Korean culture. Myers had worked abroad as an expatriate before and assumed that all countries outside the United States would pose similar challenges. She was wrong to make this assumption. Although she d been in new cultural situations before, this one seemed more difficult to navigate, (p. 124). If Myers had been more willing to consider what Korean business culture would be like, she might have avoided some of the problems that occurred. Her experience prepping clients to work for Western multinationals in China and other countries did not easily translate to her situation in Korea, showing the importance of treating each situation, and each new country or culture, differently (p. 126). The problem is not Myers alone, though. She had no official orientation and no detailed guidance from her superiors, (p. 124). This is an organizational issue, stemming from poor management decisions related to human resources. Moreover, Myers felt isolated, as she was not given any opportunity to form relationships with her new colleagues in Seoul (p. 124). Moreover, human resources managers failed to choose someone who might better fit in with the Seoul business culture than Myers, if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Reflection Paper On Dance As I reflect on my third semester at The University of Kentucky, I am reminded of how Ballet One, or TAD 142, has impacted me as a dancer. I have discovered my strengths and grown in my skill, as well as discovered areas that still need improvement.Initially, I found my interest in dance through my passion in the performing arts, specifically color guard. My interest in dance pushed me to enroll in two dance classes at my university, ballet one, as well as an additional course, introduction to dance. In the future I plan on furthering my dance education by pursuing a minor in dance, that could eventually effect my future job endeavors. Prior to this class, I spent seven years participating in color guard. Each season of color guard required an audition. Looking back on each audition, I find a pattern in the process, which later bled into my performance focus. With every audition and performance, my priority was to take the spotlight. Once I knew every eye in the audience was on me, I would do my best to make sure my face was telling the story. As I look back on these moments, I realize that I no longer perform this way. I believe this change is explained simply by my confidence. I do not feel as confident in my current dance classes as I was in color guard. Throughout my experience in color guard I found happiness not only in the performance aspect but also in the body and movement beneath the equipment. Rehearsal would typically begin with a stretching block, followed by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Medium Of Art By Leonardo Da Vinci s Mona Lisa Of all the creative mediums in existence, of which there are a plethora to discover, the medium of Art, although recognized by most as a legitimate creative medium, is one of the most controversial. However, in the subject of practical artwork, sculptures, paintings, and performance artworks, the idea of a definitive artwork is almost non existent. Although there are artworks that exist, such as Leonardo da Vinci s Mona Lisa, which are known seemingly universally (Torov, 2011), there are few critics or viewers who can explain just what exactly constitutes it as a good artwork. This investigation appears to become universal to many other artworks, an argument that arises between technical mastery, motives, and meaning, if any at all. That is to say that interpretation battles against visual astonishment. However, although the visuals are by far the most striking part of almost any artwork, the first thing that most look for beyond the visual elements is the story being told within the visuals. It is for this reason that many war time, or significant event paintings are remembered; it s well known, and is a story that is being told constantly through all mediums, within the realm of out, and outside that same realm. • 11. Essay on Utilitarianism Utilitarianism There are many essays, papers and books written on the concept of right and wrong. Philosophers have theorized about moral actions for eons, one such philosopher is John Stuart Mill. In his book Utilitarianism he tries to improve on the theories of utilitarianism from previous philosophers, as he is a strong believer himself in the theory. In Mill s book he presents the ideology that there is another branch on the utilitarian tree. This branch being called rule utilitarianism. Mill makes a distinction between two different types of utilitarianism; act utilitarianism and rule utilitarianism. Rule utilitarianism seems like a major advance over the simple theory of act utilitarianism. But for all its added complexity, it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the instance when an individual steals from another individual for his/her own self happiness, others in society cannot deem this to be justifiable, even if it may be more beneficial to the thief to steal. Act utilitarianism does not guarantee the protection to the victim of theft in this example because, it s more focused on the greatest happiness and not on the consequences for others happiness. The greatest happiness may be given to either person in this situation depending on the stories of each (i.e. the reason for thief). Therefore, the idea of right seems not to be absolute. Mill however, recognizes this as a problem and introduces the theory of rule utilitarianism to compensate. Instead of looking at the consequences of a particular act, rule utilitarianism determines the rightness of an act by an alternative mean. That mean consists of first finding the best rule of conduct, this is done by finding the values of the consequences that follow a particular rule; The best rule is the rule, which has the greatest overall result of any given action. Hence, one must follow the actual rules of one s society. To illustrate, one ought not to steal because it is societies laws. Solving the issue of not recognizing the victims happiness due to the fact, according to Mill, that these laws are based on morally right objectives. • 12. The Habitat Of Southern Toads Abby Buren, Sheridan Dillon Robinson, Amber Hancock, Brett Shannon Identifying the preferred habitat of southern toads Introduction St. Andrews university is a 500 acre campus consisting of many aquatic habitats, ideal for amphibians such as frogs and toads. Amphibians are susceptible to changes in the environment and are indicators of environmental diversity and success as well as identifiers of pollutants in the environment (Marshall, 2013). We were interested in the prefered conditions for local toad and frog species on St. Andrews campus, located in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Some aquatic environments include lakes, ponds, creeks and a Carolina Bay. We hypothesised that toad and frog populations will be denser at the Carolina Bay because the area provides acoustics, ideal for calling mates and also has a lot of surface area that allows for solar heating that increases metabolism that would allow for quicker development (metamorphosis) as well as having lots of areas to lay eggs, due to mating and offspring developmental requirements. Frogs and toads are external fertilizers and the females lay their eggs in the water and the males fertilize the eggs. Also, once the eggs hatch depending on the species they will spend the first month or so of their lives in water as a tadpole until they metamorphosize into frogs or toads. Due to this, they are more likely to be in aquatic areas during mating seasons (Partymiller, L.). Out of the many toad and frog species in the area, we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. The Three Plays Of The Oresteia Throughout the three plays of the Oresteia, justice takes many different shapes and forms as various characters attempt to justify their otherwise morally questionable actions. In particular, the Oresteia portrays a transformation from an older, more primitive form of justice, to a new concept of civil justice devised by Athena. Aeschylus emphasizes this contrast between the old and new orders, and the differing philosophies of both with the older justice of the Furies and Clytemnestra taking on a more individual connotation, while that of Athena and the new gods is formed around the community. As such, while Clytemnestra carries out her justice primarily based upon her own judgement of right and wrong, justice at the end of the Eumenides is ultimately delivered based on the convictions and beliefs of a collective community of jury members. The primary source of contention in the Oresteia stems from Agamemnon s sacrifice of Iphigenia, in turn fueling Clytemnestra s murder of Agamemnon during the events in Agamemnon which itself leads to Orestes murder of Clytemnestra and Aegisthus. However, since Agamemnon and Orestes were significantly and directly influenced by Artemis and Apollo, respectively, they ultimately did not have much of an option in carrying out their actions. In contrast, Clytemnestra had little to no influence at all from any god, and thus acted solely based on her own sense of justice in murdering Agamemnon. • 15. The Story Of An Hour And A Respectable Woman Women s role in society has greatly changed since the 19th century, which is the time period that The Story of an Hour and A Respectable Woman are set in. In these stories, Kate Chopin describes the emotions of a woman after discovering that her husband is dead, as well as the internal conflict within a woman who is tempted to cheat on her husband. They are both centered around independence in a setting that does not typically promote such things for women. Therefore, with such outlandish concepts for that time period, it is greatly indicative of the author s beliefs. Thus, The Story of an Hour and A Respectable Woman reflect Kate Chopin s beliefs about marriage, societal expectations, and female independence through the characterization of her female leads. Chopin makes her position on marriage clear in her portrayal of a woman who has found out that her husband is dead. Despite initially mourning him in The Story of an Hour, Louise Mallard is completely overjoyed after the morbid discovery. She is so elated that she even chants to herself: Free, free, free! (Chopin 164). Any sort of ambiguity about the chanted word is negated when the narrator explicitly states that, There would be no one to live for her during those coming years; she would live for herself (Chopin 165). Both of these quotes are highly suggestive about Chopin s beliefs. They portray marriage as a burden, or as a punishment inflicted on a person rather than a union between two people in ... In Poe s story Hop Frog the main conflict was the King mistreated Hop Frog and his friend Trippetta, so Hop Frog tricked the King and his seven ministers into dressing up as ourang outangs and getting set on fire. It is treatable if detected early. Plague is still relatively common in some remote parts of the world. Key Idea 1 The first plague talked about in this book is The Plague of Athens . The Plague of Athens was a devastating epidemic which hit the city state of Athens in ancient Greece during the second year of the Peloponnesian War when an Athenian victory still seemed within reach. It is believed to have entered Athens through Piraeus, the city s port and sole source of food and supplies. Much of the eastern Mediterranean also saw outbreak of the disease, albeit with less impact. The plague returned twice more, in 429 BC and in the winter of 427/426 BC. Some 30 pathogens have been suggested as causing the plague. Key Idea 2 The Black Death is thought to have originated in the arid plains of Central Asia, where it then travelled along the Silk Road, reaching Crimea by 1343. From there, it was most likely carried by Oriental rat fleas living on the black rats that were regular passengers on merchant ships. Spreading throughout the Mediterranean and ... As Broadway Cafe demands high quality coffee and there is no availability of substitutes for the coffee beans that Broadway Cafe use. Therefore, the bargaining power of supplier increases. • 26. Literary Analysis Of The Storm Kate Chopin implies in the selection, The Storm that the setting and the plot reinforces each character s action, but only two characters exemplify the title itself, Calixta and Alcee. The storm becomes the central element of Alcee s unrequited love for Calixta and ultimately the instrument of their forbidden love to each other. Hurston concurs in the The Storm that a forbidden relationship can become a cancerous love and silent death sentence. The Storm s theme was based on Love, Immoral affair, and Freedom. Chopin s technique of foreshadowing, symbolism, irony, tone, and imagery set the plot for Alcee, Calixta, Bobinot, and Clarisse in this short story. A bolt struck a tall chinaberry tree at the edge of the field. It filled all visible space with a blinding glare and crash seemed to invade the very boards they stood upon (425). The writer used Imagery to depict how nature shook the foundation of their respective marriages. The significance of the tall chinaberry tree that crashed the boards was that it made Bobinot and Clarisse almost irrelevant in the story. The author used the metaphorical expression to indicate how the storm schemed Bobinot and Clarisse out of the reckoning. The author employed the use of symbolism in the description of the storm. Storm, a natural phenomenon that brings about extreme weather condition that might lead to an undesirable outcome. The Storm in the context of the selection brought about a positive outcome. The storm in the story is not the physical storm that occurred outside with heavy downpour, but the coming together of Alcee and Bobinot. A physical storm forms when the atmosphere is saturated with water and droplets of water pour out from the sky. The symbolic importance of the storm represents the liberation of Alcee and Calixta, from the shackles of societal or moral expectation. He pushed her hair back from her face that was warm and streaming her (425). Although Alcee pushed Calixta s hair back to see her face, the author s interpretation was not physical. Chopin meant that Alcee was able to set Calixta free from the bondage of marriage temporarily. Bobinot played a major role in the plot that led to infidelity between Calixta and Alcee. ... Accordingly, Plymouth State University added a modern twist to the play Much Ado About Nothing, and, despite certain missteps, I considered it successful. Furthermore, director Jessie Chapman not only changed the time period to a post World War I setting, but included modern music as well. Accordingly, the costumes were changed to fit the era, including the soldiers uniforms. Despite consisting of one location, the set design was convincing, and the actors used it efficiently. Speaking of which, the majority of the cast lived up to the characters they portrayed, with several standouts. The lighting design had its own intricacies, with the color of the background light changing based on the time of day or when certain characters appear. The sound only played a role when the background music played, of which I question the choices for music. Although the play plodded during certain scenes, other scenes, like that of Benedick and Beatrice eavesdropping on conversations, never ceased to entertain. Ultimately, the play served as a worthy adaptation of Shakespeare s classic story. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... You see, a huge factor rises in the end of this predicament. The advance of the Roman empire, along with the fate of the Western World, were essentially saved by the destruction of the Athenians at the island of Sicily. I firmly claim this because if the expedition were to result positively for the Athenians, themselves and all of Greece would have landed on a a goldmine in regards to fertile land which is Sicily. All of Italy and beyond would have been under the heel of Greece and not of Rome. For the lands such as North Africa, Iberia, and Gaul conquered by the Romans could potentially have been done by Greeks. The influential defeat at Syracuse ended the great empire known as Greece and history was shifted for the ages. After that battle, the Peloponnesian war would go on for another ten years. From that point forward, Greece was mismanaged and misguided by many men who made attempt to lead. Allies across Greece separated and the democracy in which this empire stood would crumble and fall victim to an oligarchy. There are 3 forms of this disease: Type A, B, and C. The general focus of this paper will be Type C. Niemann Pick s disease Type C (NPC) is disease in which unesterified cholesterol and other lipids accumulate in late endosomes/lysosomes (LE/L) of all cells and tissues. Resulting in excessive amounts of cholesterol accumulation within the liver and spleen and excessive amounts of other lipids accumulating in the brain. The cause of NPC is quite distinct from A B whose patients have defects in their lysosomal acid sphingomyelinase gene (3). On the contrary, NPC is a recessive, autosomal disorder that affects around 1 in 150,000 births and causes premature death due to relentless neurodegeneration as well as lung and liver dysfunction (4,5). NPC can further be divided into two subgroups known as C1 and C2, which are each, caused by a different gene mutation. One of the many interesting features of this disease is that symptoms may appear as early as childhood or as late as adulthood. The symptoms that follow this disease are the inability to move ones eyes up and down, enlarged liver, enlarged spleen, or jaundice in young children. • 39. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Standardized Writing System Writing has constituted an important practice in human culture since the earliest forms of writing were discovered from cave paintings made 40,000 years ago. Writing enables writers to express themselves in a writing system that conveys unique features of its associated culture. In this context, writing means a standardized system for recording, in a specific language, content ranging from values to ideas to poems, etc. Humans have communicated in thousands of languages throughout history and consequently devised numerous different writing systems for expressing those languages. To facilitate easier communication, it has sometimes been suggested that the world adopt a single writing system capable of representing all languages. This essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an over optimistic and naïve argument, however, for at least three reasons. Most particularly, a standardized writing system might seem ideal, but it cannot overcome the enormous difficulties brought about by requiring the world s citizens to learn a new writing system. This is because learning writing systems is very challenging, laborious and time consuming (Tzeng Wang, 1983); this is even more the case for adult learners, who might anyway see little benefit and much disadvantage from the additional financial expense of learning a new writing system when they are already expert users of their written language. A second reason why a universal writing system is ill advised is because languages are living things that evolve slowly over time; there never can be a standard writing system while cultures are continually developing new forms of expression. This can be seen from the fact that the Chinese writing system has already undergone several evolutions over the centuries. Thirdly, the argument for standardizing a writing system is naïve because it entails controversial political decisions. No doubt the powerful nations of the East would prefer a logographic or a syllabic writing system while their Western counterparts would prefer an alphabetic writing system. Each side would therefore favour its existing writing system to minimize disruption and to ensure forms of cultural hegemony. Taken together, these three arguments demonstrate the impracticality of a universal writing system and highlight the difficulties such a system would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. King Henry As A Good King In William Shakespeare s Henry V What does it mean to be a king as compared to a man? William Shakespeare s work Henry V attempts to answer this question with a title character who is both. King Henry s morality, defined by his deeply complex character, rests precariously on the title he is defined by: should he be judged solely as a king or also as a man? The label makes a difference. Through his actions and leadership during the play, Henry proves himself to be a good king, one worthy of respect and admiration. However, at the same time, the same actions do not always reveal a particularly good or virtuous man. Highlighting the disparity between the two roles, Shakespeare intended for King Henry to be admired and respected as a good king but not necessarily as a good man. To understand this distinction, one must first recognize that the qualities that make up a good king often diverge from those attributed to a good man. For example, to be considered a good man, one might try to be forgiving and tolerant; however, to be a good king, one often has to be exactly the opposite. Why does this make sense? It is not because a king is naturally unforgiving or refuses to take the high road; instead, he has a higher purpose than to be kind to those immediately around him. To be a good king, one cannot be an emotional creature, but instead be a calculating one. He should put the needs of his kingdom above all other things, including his own desires or whims. A good king recognizes that he must serve, protect, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the witches triggered the series of events that later aid Macbeth s descent into complete insanity, Macbeth is portrayed from the very beginning as a fierce and violent soldier. As the play goes on, several internal conflicts inside of Macbeth become clear. After he performs several bloody tasks, the madness inside of Macbeth is unmistakably visible to everyone around him. As a result of this insanity, he sees visions and hallucinations. Each time Macbeth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The time has been/ That, when the brains were out, the man would die (3.4.93 95) Macbeth is talking about past murders committed, perhaps on the battlefield, and how the men died immediately rather than haunted him. Eventually, Lady Macbeth calls for the guests to leave, seeing as her husband has sunk into utter madness and, in her own words, displaced the mirth, broke the good meeting/ with most admired disorder. (3.4. 132 133) Macbeth is now clearly losing his mind due to guilt and yet still plans to go see the witches again. I will tomorrow/ (And betimes I will) to the Weird Sisters/ More shall they speak, for now I am bent to know/ by the worst means the worst. (3.4.164 166) He is still being driven by his ambition despite his collapse into insanity. Macbeth takes his trip to the witches and it is there that he experiences his third hallucination, a four part apparition that foretells his fate in an indefinite matter once again. The first apparition is an armed head that tells him, Beware Macduff! /Beware the Thane of Fife! (4.1.81 82) Macbeth has already had suspicions of Macduff and the apparition just confirms what he has already feared. The second apparition, a bloody child, says, Laugh to scorn/ The power of man, for none of woman born/ shall harm Macbeth. (4.1. 90 92) Macbeth rejoices to know that no man will beat him that was born of a woman, and he assumes that Macduff was born of a woman. The third ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. God Reflection Almost every day of my life, I ask myself the same question and that is: How will God be present in my life today? The answer to this question changes every single day because God has a different plan for me and all of the people that surround me. From what I have seen over the course of my life, I have noticed that God s presence has always been there for me on my weakest days and my strongest. During these times where I have experienced God watching over me, I feel that my relationship with Him as strengthened and that my faith has grown as well. These moments in my life make me reflect on what it truly means to have the presence of God in my life and how He helps me to grow and build a deeper connection with those in my church, school, home, and especially the Holy Trinity. I know that whatever I am doing today or tomorrow, wherever the path I am currently walking on takes me, I should take just a moment to take in all that God has bestowed upon me. Over the course of my existence my understanding and my beliefs about Christianity has tremendously changed because as we grow older we have the ability to take in more knowledge than when we were young. When I was a little kid my parents would take me to church every Sunday and my school would have us go to mass every Wednesday as well, but as years have flown by me and my family go to church less and less. I feel terrible that I can not attend church as often as I use to, but now that I am in high school I have discovered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Pros And Cons Of The Witch Trials Doctor William Beaumont discovered that gastric juices digest food by treating a gunshot patient who s wound healed forming a hole. Nazis are bad. Nazis performed inhumane experiments on many people they deemed as inferior . The Angel of Death Josef Mengele was fascinated with twins and conducted many experiments on them because they were natural controls . In the 1930s, German medical schools led such experiments in eugenics and promoted the concept of the Aryan purity. Mengele performed experiments such as: blood transfusions between twins, stitched two twins together as conjoined twins, electric shock, exposing women to high radiation subjecting them for sterilization, and even tossing escaped Jewish children in pits of burning gasoline. He escaped war criminal charges throughout the entirety of his life. After World War Two, German physicians pleaded that what they had done should not be considered war crimes because they had only been following orders and were not very different from what American physicians would do to captives. The Nuremberg trials created ten principles for ethical experimentation and that anyone should freely consent to participation. Similarly, American researchers experimented on orphans, inmates, mental institution patients, and military personnel. Soldiers were unknowingly introduced to mustard gas which was later tested as an anticancer drug. During times of war, protection of human rights was undervalued. • 48. Anabolic Steroids In Sports In society today, winning is considered everything. Man is always trying to beat their opponent no matter what it takes. Some athletes are willing to do anything that could potentially be life threatening in order to get their 15 seconds of fame. This something is known as anabolic steroids. Anabolic steroids have come to improve many athletes physical activity, but also ruin an immense amount of lives forever. Although it may give someone the power to feel good, be stronger, and build up more muscle, the negative effects strongly outweigh the positives. All athletes dream big. They have the desire to stand on the podium with a gold metal, receive an athletic award, or win the world championships. Sometimes the desire to achieve gets so high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, it is not completely uncommon for athletes to test positive for steroids. Amazing, talented competitors like Barry Bonds, Marion Jones, and Lance Armstrong were all illegal users of steroids. They did as many things as they could to not get caught, but eventually they did. Imagine all of the die hard fans that found out that their favorite athlete cheated through sports. Kids look up to athletes as role models and aspire to be like them one day, but the let down of discovering that an athlete wasn t competing the way its body naturally could is devastating. Seeing all this success through the use of steroids could actually promote people to use it. This is an extremely bad idea because anabolic steroids ultimately lead to a path of physical and mental hopelessness. Anabolic steroids can be extremely harmful. If the body is already producing a proper amount of testosterone, there is no reason to be adding more. It is unhealthy for the body and results in abnormal effects. Acne, liver disorders, blood pressure increase, possible HIV, sexual diseases, atrophy, infertility, prostate enlargement, lower speaking voice, thinner hair, aggressive behavior, depression, and lower hormonal levels are just a few of the side effects as a result of taking steroids. None of these are positive, so why should athletes be using them if they have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Why Canada Is A Multicultural Country Canada has always been a multicultural country. It is well known as a country that accepts diversity and depending heavily on immigration for its population growth. The largest groups of immigrants to Canada are from Asian and Middle Eastern countries. This fact has remained virtually unchanged since the 2001 census (Potter et al., 2014, p.110). Although Canada demonstrates gender equality to some degree among the various different cultures it has, however, gender inequality exists among many countries. Gender inequality exits to a varying extent in all societies and differs over time, across social and ethnic groups (Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010). In Saudi Arabia, the system of governance is a monarchy, with its constitution governed by strict interpretation of the Islamic laws (Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010). In Saudi Arabia, women s roles and rights can be evaluated by examining the local interpretation of the Islamic laws, through: education, job opportunity, marriage, polygamy and fertility (Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010). Statistics shows that about 30% of Saudi women are illiterates, although, presently, there are more female graduates than males in Saudi Arabia (Mobaraki, Söderfeldt, 2010). This is so, because, some parts of Saudi Arabia (where nonreligious education was regarded as unsuitable for girls) initially opposed the opening of schools for girls ((Mobaraki Söderfeldt, 2010).In addition to that, mixed sex education is not allowed in Saudi Arabia (Mobaraki ... • 50. The King Of The Egyptian Dynasty Tutankhamun was the twelfth king of the 18th Egyptian dynasty. His reign can be seen as a period of religious transition to the extent of that he reverted back to the traditional Egyptian religion after his predecessor s radical revolution and laid the foundations for future rulers. However, it has been observed that many of the actions that were made during his reign were not made by him, instead by his advisors. Tutankhamun s reign can be seen as a period of religious transition but only to a certain extent. After Akhenaten s Amarna Revolution , Tutankhamun needed to gain the confidence of his people, and did so by returning to the traditional, polytheistic religion of Egypt. The state of society and the land that Tutankhamun was faced with is expressed in the Restoration Stela in Source 2, ...piles of rubble and overgrown with weeds...the world was in chaos and the gods had turned their back on this land...everything that had been, was destroyed. While the Restoration Stela has obvious elements of embellishment as it is a form of propaganda to promote the king and his deeds, it provides an insight into the world in which Tutankhamun reigned. It was one of Tutankhamun s first acts as pharaoh to return to orthodoxy and to reinstate Amun as the supreme state god. It is unknown what the true purpose of this was but historians have various theories. French Egyptologist, Christiane Desroches Noblecourt argues that Tutankhamun was influenced and manipulated by his advisors, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
