The Harvard Referencing Style In Academic Literature
Introduction Referencing is one of the most important aspects of any academic literature in the
modern day scenario. It is the main way through which someone acknowledges the fact that they
have borrowed the ideas of someone else, and have used their work for citation ion their work.
There are several different kinds of referencing system among which the Harvard referencing
style is one of the most popular. The different aspects of the Harvard style along with the main
methods through which the style is implemented have been detailed and discussed. Herein, this
study is about the Harvard referencing style and detailing the actual point of referencing in the
first place. The Actual Point of Referencing Referencing is extremely important while compiling
an academic file, as it is the main method of showing acknowledgement to the authors of the
work which has been used for ideas in the said academic literature. A failure in this regard leads
to people developing the misconception that the author has cheated or plagiarised someone else
s work and is now claiming it as their own. Any kind of plagiarism is considered to be a serious
offence, especially in the academic circles. Being accused of the malpractice of plagiarism is one
of the worst hits that the reputation of a researcher can ever receive. Indeed, it is significantly
difficult to recover a proper reputation once accusations of this kind are made towards someone.
For students, being accused of the

Solomon Asch Conformity Experiments (1951) Essay
In 1951, Solomon Asch carried out several experiments on conformity. The aim of these studies
was to investigate conformity in a group environment situation. The purpose of these experiments
was to see if an individual would be swayed by public pressure to go along with the incorrect
answer. Asch believed that conformity reflects on relatively rational process in which people are
pressured to change their behaviour. Asch designed experiments to measure the pressure of a group
situation upon an individual judgment. Asch wanted to prove that conformity can really play a big
role in disbelieving our own senses. Asch initiated his experiment by making one of the particpants
at ease. He asked a serious of elementary questions where the four... Show more content on

The participants seated themselves around a table, these confederates were not known to each
other, and most important concept of this experiment relied on the fact all of the participants were
working together, but for one. They took turns in a fixed order to call out publicly which of three
comparison lines was the same length as a standard line on the left card. In reality only one person
was a naive participant who answered second to last, the rest were experimental confederates
instructed to give erroneous responses. The results were intriguing as there were large individual
differences or variation in responses. However nonetheless what was evident was that 25 percent of
participants remained independent throughout the trials, another 50 percent conformed to the
erroneous majority in 6 or more trials and another 5 percent conformed on all 12 trials. Therefore
the average conformity rate was 33 percent. Asch used quantitative sampling method, which means
that a positivist would argue that quantitative data is more accurate because it is scientific.
Positivist approach will ensure that Asch experiments are reliable, and easily replicated by
someone else and deliver same results. Although he used up to 7 people, Quantitative Data includes
statistics and numbers to make his claim for high in reliability and

The Lifeblood On Any Online Business Is Traffic And...
The lifeblood on any online business is traffic and visibility. To get the most traffic, merchants
create affiliate programs, literally a virtual sales team to help promote their site and products.
Anyone can sign up to be an affiliate to most affiliate programs. You promote their products, they do
all the customer service, shipping, and refunds of the product. You promote, and when the merchant
makes a sale from a customer that you referred, you make a commission.
The merchant may choose to pay a flat fee or a percentage of the product s price. Let s say you
re promoting a $149 product, and the merchant pays you a 50% commission. For every sale you
refer, you earn a $74.50 commission. To track the people that you refer to the site, you re given an
affiliate link. These are links that are coded with identifiable information so that the merchant
knows that the customer came from your link and you are credited with the sale. Some merchants
pay as high as 75% commission.
Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest way to start an online business. You don t need to have a
website, products, a customer service or shipping department. You simply send traffic to the
merchant s website, and earn commissions. While it is easy to get started in affiliate marketing, you
still need to learn, understand and implement some basic business concepts to be successful.
Some of the things you will need to learn are:
1. Choosing the products that are best aligned to your chosen

Essay Military Discipline
Military Discipline
1.General.The word discipline comes from the Latin word disciplД«na which means to instruct .
Discipline is a specific form of instruction which develops self control, character, and efficiency.
Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which renders obedience instinctive
under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to properly constituted authority.
While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on
military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by smartness of appearance and
action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by respect for seniors; and by

Maybe a whole squadron deserted its post. In this case, the court handed down the famous, the
ghastly, sentence of decimation. The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front
those who were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name
he could think of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. Now
I want each of you to choose a number, he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was
chosen to pay the penalty. What penalty? On the tribune s order, the army fell on these men their
comrades and clubbed them to death, mercilessly.
The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live, but possibly they thought death was preferable to
the humiliation they had to suffer then. They were told to quarter themselves outside the camp
walls, where they were unprotected; and they were given rations of barley horse food rather than
wheat for sustenance. Their disgrace would live as long as they did. But it isn t only your severe
punishments that produce right conduct, Polybius told the Romans. That alone wouldn t make
men brave. You encourage them to act heroically by holding out all kinds of rewards and

Similarities Between Wwi And WWII
World War I and World War II, costed many nations hundreds of thousands of lives. The wars are
like feeling angry about losing a game, useless and unfortunate. Although WWI and WWII
happened at completely different times, they consist of several similarities, as in who fought and
why, as well as differences, such as how the U.S. joined and why, and the weapons they used.
World War I(WWI), took place over a span of a few years causing many deaths. WWI occurred
from 1914 to 1919, and started due to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand (Staff, 2016).
Many factors played into the starting of this war. Poor communication caused a lot of problems
during the first world war. Battles would start without the proper equipment or number of troop. ...

American army did not have an air force. American Congress used $640 million to build a strong

Experience, Perceive And Interact With The Sites Through...
As the principal question is to examine how we experience, perceive and interact with the site
through our senses and body, in this section I present excerpts from the interview transcripts which
are then analysed to obtain an understanding of sensory qualities of the site. In any site dance, it is
not only the performers who are interrogating spacethrough movements, but it also extends to an
audience who experiences it. For a better structuring, I have divided this section into two parts: the
first part focuses on how the dancers engage to depict the site through various sensory receptors and
the latter part discusses the multiple constructions of the sites through the viewers sensuous
subjectivity. Through these sections I endeavour to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Dusk the performance is designed imaginatively to retrace the histories of the place and to
acknowledge the land (as evidenced in set of movement vocabularies built upon bhumi namaskar),
agreed by Harrison and Subramaniam. Both Subramaniam and Harrison s narratives contained
abundant tactile metaphors about having contacts with grass underfoot (Fig 5.5.1.1). Subramaniam
informed me that: We had choreographed and rehearsed in a studio, so the texture of the grass
made it difficult to move initially (Facebook interview, April 29, 2013).
From the transcription I found that the dancers variously depicted the site as: soft , resistant ,
hard , uneven (texture), huge , small , magnanimous (size), airy , fresh , stuffy (olfactory),
illuminated , dark (visibility) and sacred (belief). As most of the dance artists and dancers agreed
that it was meant to pay tribute to the site, I narrow down my discussion to the concept of
sacredness drawing on a set of three selected photos and narratives. Subramaniam said that: The
stones felt sacred, each was feeling like a deity with personality and compassion. We were blessed
with extraordinarily good weather and the sun provided perfect lighting (Facebook interview, April
29, 2013). Dusk expands the concept of sacredness through cultural and religious appropriations. In

A Study On Healthy Potion
Healthy Potion is a business specializing in manufacturing and selling beverage with unique
functions. This business has gained significant profits, therefore, it decided to expand and diversify
the products to be a leading company in healthy products market by creating the diet pills products.
To achieve this version, the business needs to formulate a feasible strategy to succeed in the
complementary medicine market. This essay is intended to analyze the use of the 4Ps to help the
business and also provide recommendations on how to enhance its strategy of development though
marketingmix.

A product is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use, or consumption
that might meet people s satisfaction or demand (Kotler and Armstrong 2014).The healthy portion
diet pill is one of the shopping products , which would take consumers considerable amounts of
time to make the final choice. The competition among the diet supplements is quite fierce, but a
new venture could still manifest the competitive advantages if it masters and utilizes the concept of
the total product. The main idea is to add more customer value in each level. (Kotler and Armstrong
2014). At the core product level, the company should realize that what the customers actually want
to pursue is keeping in health in a convenient way. A number of consumers intend to shape a slim
figure without bearing the pains from high pressure exercise. At the actual product level, the Healthy

Research Paper On Swarm Intelligence
Abstract Swarm intelligence (SI) is the collective behaviour of decentralized, self organized
systems, natural or artificial. The concept is employed in work on artificial intelligence. The
expression was introduced by Gerardo Beni and Jing Wang in 1989, in the context of cellular
robotic systems. The project proposes a swarm intelligencebased procedure to detect critical
conditions of a patient, affected by a specific disease, at an early stage in absence of clinician. The
procedure is to be integrated inside a remote health care system for patients at home, where some
physiological parameters related to a specific disease are being monitored. A significant variation in
the monitored parameters can lead the patient to a critical state, thus... Show more content on

The Possible Cause Of The Salem Witch Trials
The Salem Witch Trials began in Salem, Massachusetts, 1690. To this day it is not completely clear
why these trials began, but some believed that physical and/or mental illness, like hysteria, was the
cause. Others suggest that some of the local plants had been poisoned. The most reasonable cause
was that there was a pact amongst a group of girls that wanted revenge on some of the people in the
town; since they accused many and had similar accusations that could have been rehearsed. Other
explanations include that the Puritans, coming from the same views from Europe, believed that
witchcraftwas possible. Because of the already implanted idea that witches were real, in Salem
witchcraft soon became the most believed cause for the trials. There

Since children are so easily affected by things they see in their childhood, having discriminatory
elements in these influential characters may be problematic. The Wonder Woman Precedent:
Female (Super) Heroism on Trial written by Julie D. O Reilly, was published in the Journal of

To some, wonder woman is regarded as a feminist icon. However, O Reilly does not believe so
because of the submissive themes that her creator included in the comics.
Though Wonder Woman is one of the most popular female superheroes who seemed to be equal to
her male counterparts, she had to demonstrate if she was worthy enough to become a superhero
through set trials. Wonder Woman was not born into her title; she had to earn it unlike all the
male superheroes that came before and after her. Born Princess Diana from the Amazon, she had
to compete in a series of extremely difficult physical trials and once she proved her worth in a
final life or death challenge, the title of Wonder Woman was bestowed upon her. O Reilly gives
multiple examples in her article about the differences male and female superheroes have. For
instance, the popular Superman comics came out a few years earlier. Clark Kent s choice to fight
crime was never questioned or challenged. He did not have to prove his abilities to a higher
authority in order to become a superhero. He simply chose to wear a cape and enforce justice. O
Reilly explains, ...The resolution of heroic trials, in their various forms, differs significantly

The Pros And Cons Of Overdeliver
Marketing and sales gurus, established coaches and other business experts chant
the same mantra...
Overdeliver, overdeliver, overdeliver.
You need to exceed expectations to overdeliver when you work with your
clients.
But I m not one to accept advice just because it s common or popular...
It s good to evaluate and analyze everything you hear and read based on your
personal experiences and observations...
This way, you don t get caught up in short lived trends or ideas that may harm
more than help your business.
I ve reflected on my own experiences working with countless coaches over
hundreds of hours and here s what I know...

The coach tells the client to create this list so they can discuss it during a follow
up coaching session.
The client fails to do this. So the coach comes up with ideas for the client during
the follow up in an attempt to overdeliver.
In this all too common scenario, the coach does the client s work and the client
ends up with a great list of program ideas without having to do any of the
creative thinking or research.
Does this feel familiar?
If you do the work for your clients you are teaching them to depend on you.
You re demonstrating that they don t have the capability or the creativity to do
what it takes to create success in their own lives...
And without even meaning to, you ll end up disempowering your clients.
No matter how tempting it is, never do the work for your clients in the name of
overdelivering.
Instead hold your clients accountable for the work they must do so they can
create results they want in their lives.
If your goal is to overdeliver and exceed your clients expectations, pick just one
thing and be very specific...
For instance, if you re a business coach, share 5 marketing strategies instead of

Legal Drinking Age
For many of the generations living today, the legal drinking age has always been set at twenty
one. In the 1980 s, it rose from eighteen to twenty one in an attempt to reduce the amount of
underage drunk driving accidents. While the number of traffic fatalities have declined over the
past few decades, many would argue that the law has spawned many new problems as well, such as
an increase in alcohol poisoning deaths and binge drinking.
As previously stated, the primary reason for adjustment to the legal drinking age was to address the
preposterous number of drunk driving accidents. The United States has experienced a decline in all
age groups over the last 25 years and for that, the law has been a success. Although these statistics
are encouraging, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since 1979, the rate of binge drinking has increased 20 percent in non college women and 40
percent in women who attend college, and this rate continues to rise. College students that are
not of age to drink legally engage in pre game sessions, where the primary goal is to get drunk
before attending a social event. To obtain this goal, the young adults take multiple shots of hard
liquor in rapid succession (McCardell) in locations that are beyond administrative authority. These
unsafe and unhealthy drinking behaviors lead to many short and long term health effects.
Drinking is driven away from responsible adults who could model moderation for young adults
and instead driven into risky settings, heavily weighted with peer pressure and usually not
supervised by any non intoxicated people. While drunk driving is a problem, a study from the
National Institute of Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse states that of 5,000 deaths involving alcohol
in those under the age of 21, more than 60 percent of the fatalities occur off of roadways
(McCardell). This includes alcohol poisoning deaths that result from binge drinking incidents,
which between 1998 and 2005 jumped from 779 to 2290 cases in 18 24 year olds (Glaser). These
statistics indicate that the primary problem of this age is not drunk driving, but instead clandestine

The Power in a Name The term ethnic when in conjunction with the word literature in the academic
discourse community of students, often brings out mixed feelings of excitement and dread. On the
one hand, students understand that they will be getting away from the canonical American
literature which can equal boring in their eyes; on the other hand, students interpret the term ethnic
literature to mean distinctive which can equal confusing or ambiguous and perhaps at times not

At this deeper level I am trying to get at, I find John M. Reilly s article Criticism of Ethnic
Literature: Seeing the Whole Story helpful in acquiring this. He states that, the assertion of
ethnicity in literature can be made only through a procedure by which the writer resolves formal
problems... what moves from recognition of identity to creation of a strategy for handling reality

sequence of formal choices (4). I am interpreting this to mean that as a reader of this literature, I
should see and feel throughout the story (perhaps subtlety) that in some way, the characters
mindset (and perhaps actions) in the story differ from my own specifically because of the culture
they have grown up in in, which has shaped that character s thinking. There are thoughts and
feelings ideas, I don t understand without further explanation from the author, which is sometimes
provided, and sometimes not. An example of this is in Brando Skyhorse s novel The Madonnas of

Manatees, The Gentle Giant Is Going Extinct Essays
The West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus) is a marine mammal that lives in the coastal
waters and around the offshore reefs of Belize. Manatees have large gray bodies covered with
algae or barnacles. They are herbivores that consume marine vegetation such as sea grass and
surface regularly to breathe. They reside in sea grass beds and in mangroves that provide them with
shelter. The West Indian Manateeis listed as vulnerable under the IUCN Red List of Threatened

In Belize, mangroves estimate up to 3.4% of the land area, about 296 square miles (CITE).
Mangroves serve important ecological service such as erosion control, filter, and clean, while
also providing shelter to many marine organisms like lemon sharks, invertebrates, shrimp, and
manatees. There is a lot of biodiversity in mangroves and due to the clearance for urban and rural
development, many of these organisms are losing their homes (Patterson). Belize s coastal areas
are usually sea grass beds. Sea grass destruction strip away habitats from numerous lobster, conch,
fish, turtles, and manatees (CITE). Sea grass is the manatee s main food source and destruction of
these beds limits their grazing and range. Watercraft traffic in these shallow areas is also another
reason of harming the sea grass beds.
Watercrafts are a huge threat for manatees by of degradation of sea grass beds. Watercrafts are
also dangerous in the sense that their propellers strike the manatees which is one of the causes
of their deaths. Many manatee accidents have been reported due to watercraft collision in Belize,
and in the state of Florida. In 2003, the Florida Fish Wildlife Conservation Commission showed a
report that a total of 305 manatees were killed due to watercrafts. This also depends on the speed
of the watercraft that is travelling. If it is travelling at a higher speed, it can damage the manatee
tremendously or even kill it. Scientists in Florida s Marine Mammal

Introduction:
When we teach children the language to use in order to either invite other children into their play or

abilities to share ideas, negotiate, compromise, and to move on when told, I don t want to play

Safe Water with Adequate Sanitation
1 Introduction
Accessing safe water with adequate sanitation has been a crucial problem for billions of people
around the world (1). Most of them are in the developing countries and this problem seems to
increase in the following years (2). One of the renewable sources of freshwater which has
sufficient sanitation is rainfall. Globally precipitation generates supply of 40000 to 45000 km3
per year (3). However, there is not a uniform rainfall for different areas of the world. Developed
countries are mostly located in the temperate or tepid latitudes, hence they have more
precipitation. On the other hand, developing countries have mostly arid and semi arid climates
which they lack in the sufficient rainfall. Imbalance between water needs and its resources has
been a crucial issue for these countries. It has been expected that by the year 2025, 34 countries
most of them developing nations will experience water scarcity (2) (3). This situation is more
critical in the North Africa and in the Middle East (4).
In addition to the scarcity of fresh water which is a major concern, nowadays for both developed
and developing countries, the quality of water has been deteriorated due to the pollution,
particularly in the developing nations. The major causes of the contaminated water resources are
the inadequate wastewater treatment, non optimized landfill construction, leaking from sewage
systems, and unauthorized agricultural, municipal and industrial wastewater discharge into aquatic

Abstract Automatic recognition of people is a challenging problem which has received much
attention during recent years due to its many applications in different fields. Face recognition is one
of those challenging problems and up to date, there is no technique that provides a robust solution
to all situations. This paper presents a technique for human face recognition. A self organizing
program is used to identify if the subject in the input image is present or not present in the image
database. Face recognition with Eigen values is carried out by classifying Eigen values in both
images. The main advantage of this technique is its high speed processing capability and low
computational requirements, in terms of both speed, accuracy and memory utilization. The goal is
to implement the system for a particular face and distinguish it

Schizophreni A Mental Disorder
20 October 2015
Schizophrenia can be managed successfully with proper interventions.
When someone says, That person over there is a schizophrenic. Do we truly know what it means
or do we just assume they are so called crazy ? There is a stigma put on someone that has been
diagnosed with this disease. The term has been used very loosely over the years without people
actually knowing the background behind the term as well as the definition of schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is in a mental disorder classification on its own.
Schizophrenia is said to possibly date as far back as Egyptian times. Although it may date back
to ancient times, the first belief was that the person was possessed by a demon or was being
punished for not obeying the God s wishes. Schizophrenia has not always had that name. The
term used before Eugene Bleuber renamed it was called dementia praecox. Arnold Pick was
actually the first one to name the disorder dementia praecox but was not properly given credit for
it. Emil Kraepelin was the publisher of several psychology books and was given credit for naming
it dementia praecox. It became known as schizophrenia after Eugene Bleuber reviewed Kraepelin
work and thought that based on the symptoms of the disorder that schizophrenia is a better fit.

Some PHRs are obtainable by covered entities under the Health Insurance Portability and

PHRs. However, in the cases where PHRs are not offered by HIPAA covered entity, it becomes
the responsibility of the PHR vendor to establish privacy policies and follow any laws that may

How To Describe Thanksgiving
As I begin to recollect past experiences and events growing up, Thanksgiving is the holiday that
appears most meaningful. I choose to illuminate Thanksgiving because this is a time when family
and friends would forget their worries and differences and collectively came together at
grandmother s house to partake of the Gullah dishes. Furthermore, it serves as a vehicle in
stimulating familyhealth and wellbeing, while passing on the identity of the family throughout
generations. As I reminiscence, I can recall the air was bursting with love, hugs, laugher and
kisses; a sight to behold. Grandmother s house was small but no one seemed to care as it was
inviting. Every area of the house was utilized from the kitchen to the narrow stairway that lead
upstairs to the bedrooms. Children were outside playing working up an appetite although there was
a chill in the air often going unnoticed, still we were bundled in our hats, coats and mittens. This
was not a formal affair but we were all neatly dressed. The house was filled with distinct smells that
was heavenly. Steam came from the kitchen as finishing touches were placed on meals. Watching

hilarious, but I paid close attention for one day that would be me... Show more content on

Vertical Integration Definition
Results
Pricing: It is evident from all of the studies reviewed that integration of physicians into hospital
based system results in increased pricing. Another noteworthy finding is that some studies also
showed that integration results in higher expenditures which are contrary to what is touted as a
benefit of integration, i.e. more efficient care and a reduction of unnecessary or duplicative testing.
Quality Patient Satisfaction: The literature also demonstrates that vertical integration does not lead
to improvements in the quality of care or patient satisfaction. In fact, the results of the studies show
that compared to hospitals, physician run enterprises deliver higher quality care, which was

Who Is The Marquis s Beastliness In The Bloody Chamber
In The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, the Marquis has a form of beastliness that is quite
unique. The Marquis is a rich business man and is the husband of heroine who plays the piano.
He married three previous wives, but killed them. When the heroine arrived at the palace, the
Marquis took her to his bedroom that had white lilies all over the floor and by the bedside. The
white lilies symbolized her purity and virginity that she was going to lose when they had sex.
After they had sex, the Marquis fell asleep, then awoke to the sound of the phone ringing. The
Marquis received a call and had to travel to America for his business. The heroine, who was given
the keys to all the rooms in his castle, was told by the Marquis himself that she should not enter into

There I can go, you understand, to savour the rare pleasure of imagining myself wifeless (Carter

on. After he left the castle, she searched all the rooms that she was given access too. She
searched the drawers in his desk, in his office, and found that nothing was out of the ordinary.
The most that she had found from his drawer were a few bills. As she was putting away
everything that she had searched, she touched a spring in the drawer that opened up a secret file
cabinet. In the cabinet, she found a secret folder of his and opened it up. Inside, it was a love
letter from one of his previous wives. After that, she was set on going through more of his
personal belongings. She picked a key out of the pile that fell on the floor and it was the key to the

Countless amputees have given up on trying to become stronger and try to have a normal life

for her in the beginning because walking with prosthetics is a lot harder than walking regularly.
Lexi had to work twice as hard to be able to get used to the prosthetics and try to live on with it to

Analysis Of Peter Singer s Famine, Affluence And Morality
In Peter Singer 1972 article Famine, Affluence, and Morality, He offers a situational thought
experiment in which he makes you question your moral values. It goes like this, imagine you re
walking to class and you are feeling good about how great you looked in your brand new $200
shoes. You pass by this pond and noticed that there is a small child drowning and realize there
isn t much time to call anyone for help. You could stride into the water and pull her to safety, but
If you take the time to remove your shoes and it ll be too late. The second option is that you jump
in knowing that the muddy water would ruin the new shoes. Singer goes on by saying that he s

These are just small ways in which they can improve their lives. The everyday America has this
amount of money sitting around in their coat pocket. So why are these people around the world
still dying? however, most people don t feel the weight of responsibility to help a dying child
that they cannot see or do not know of. People only help went they are faced with the
opportunity and then based their decision to help with their own moral values. Singer created a
great thought experiment in a way that tests one s moral value, but one flaw would be that there
wasn t anyone else around in the situation. You are the only one around in the setting therefore
you must help the child. So, the question is, what if there were many people standing around in
the same location? Would we all have to the responsibility to have to save the child or will we not
stand and watch. According to Singer, if you can help others avoid harm, then you are morally
obligated to help them. However, I don t believe this is always the case. I believe sometimes you
might not be benefiting that other person because they have put themselves in a situation in which
they might have caused that upon themselves. An example of this would be you re at a crosswalk

a group of car enthusiasts and designers who communicate mainly on an online platform, but they

Comparing The Work Of Two Artists
This essay compares and contrasts the work of two artists working in Australia since the 1960s on
the themes of migration, diaspora or cross cultural heritage. It discusses themes explored in their
work and what issues these artists face in presenting their work in Australia? The first work by
Kathy Temin, My Monument: Black Garden , 2010/11 whose background as a descendant of the
Holocaust is compared and contrasted to Imants Tillers, Diaspora Series, 1992 96, a series created
partly in response to political events in Latvia, 1990. The works address issues of diaspora and
both artists revisit the past, returning to the land of their heritage. A sense of belonging is one of
the key issues they face as Australian artists. Temin understands the importance of objects as a
means of remembering another culture, a sense of displacement and loss, whilst Tillers senses a
connection with his inherited culture and upbringing. Their work addresses the issues and will be
discussed in more detail.
Contemporary artist, Kathy Temin, visited the concentration camps in Europe, her family history
dating back to the holocaust. Her father, a survivor of the Holocaust, was the only family member
to survive the onslaught. The thing about concentration camps is that they leave you feeling
overwhelmed and very small, both psychologically and physically. That s what the spaces are set

On May 2000, Alcoa executives entertained the idea of building a power plant for Intalco
however resulted in selling its power back to BPA, supposedly to help cover the energy crisis
which is the plant s most challenging aspect of its business. BPA pays for the wages and
benefits of nearly all the workers, plus $1.75 million to cover Intalco s tax burden, in 2001 as
reported in The Bellingham Herald printed on the August 2016 article. In 2002, it reopened two
potlines that were idle for 6 months which a year later were forced to shut down again due to
high energy cost. This move did cost 200 employees out of a job. In 2006, Alcoa Inc. became the
full owner of Alcoa Intalco Works after buying out its partners and later signed a five year
contract with BPA for its 450 employees, and eventually re opened the second potline. In 2008,
there was a contiguity for budget cuts including 100 jobs due to low demands in aluminum which

Essay about Donnie Darko Belonging
Belonging is a perception shaped within personal, social, cultural and historical context. While to
most the concept only includes acceptance and harmony, there can be two sides to belonging, and
Donnie Darko explores this idea through its characters and their context in the film.
Donnie Darko is set against the backdrop of the 1988 Bush vs. Dukakis Presidential election; it
represents 1980 s conservative America through the last 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12
seconds of Donnie Darko s life. There is a strong theme of insecurity and isolation and many of the
characters don t belong throughout the film.
These themes are represented by Kelly using a range of film techniques. The use of iconic

Like Donnie, she sees the bigger picture of society. We are losing them to apathy. She explains to
the indifferent Principal Cole.
I am sorry that you have failed. He replies, after an unsatisfactory explanation for her dismissal.
During the scene, Mrs Pomeroy is seated lower than Principal Cole, making him seem more
powerful and while Mrs Pomeroy s body language is open and truthful, Principal Cole s is cagey
and exasperated, blocked off and protected by his desk. The audience and Mrs Pomeroy know who
is right, but are powerless to change anything, creating a feeling of isolation.
A sense of irony is created as the most honest people in the film are labelled as mentally unstable
(Donnie is diagnosed with schizophrenia) or, in Ms Pomeroy s case, unsuitable figures of
authority, whereas characters such as Jim Cunningham, while famous and respected are revealed
as false (Donnie burns down Jim s house to expose a kiddie porn dungeon ).
While outcasts of society, they all are connected by their position, which could be seen as either a
blessing or curse. To be happily oblivious to the shortcomings of society might be wistfully
contemplated, however, given the choice, I don t think the characters would choose it.
Watching this movie, I felt I could relate to them, as I think everyone does, having experienced life
so far. It s confusing and frustrating sometimes. I m sure everyone has times where they feel like an

Love Medicine Analysis
Domestic violence is present across America, but the role it has taken in the lives of Native
American women is most troubling as it can be harder to track. Tribal sovereignty can at times act
as a shield for violence. The independent nature of tribes as nations can impede systems established
to prevent reoccurring actions of violencewithin a society. However, as domestic violenceis largely a
result of societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise
Erdrich provides this in Love Medicine. The multi faceted perspectives provide an analysis of the
lives of Ojibwe people. As a reoccurring presence of Native American life, domestic violence is

No more are women welcome to be respected shaman, religious leaders: Thus, the primary role of
this education for Indian girls was to inculcate patriarchal norms and desires into Native
communities, so that women would lose their places of leadership in Native communities (Smith,

the position her husband has attained (Erdrich 153 154). In an Anglicized society, Marie s
accomplishments of raising children is negligible compared to what her husband can achieve.
Marie has internalized this status and cannot see the value in anything she has done to be proud

of gender hierarchy is problematic as negative attitudes toward women are a stronger indicator for
domestic violence than alcohol (Mildorf 29). The gender roles weren t just limited to social power,
but were further expressed through physical dominance. This was translated by the Native
American children s experiences at boarding school, where school leaders showed dominance

to the book. The son of a couple that lives in Redding, Connecticut, commonly known as a Tory
town, Tim Meeker helps his parents operate the tavern they own and, like any younger brother,

In the book, Sam stole his family s only gun, and cattle thieves of the Patriot army stole 4 cows
from the Meekers for food. Moreover, it is a historical fact the stationing of Putnam s troops in
Connecticut took place in the winter of 1778. Curiously, there is an account of a soldier named

Courage Is A Common Trait Among Great Literary Protagonists
Courage is a common trait among great literary protagonists. From Hermione Granger in J.K
Rowling s Harry Potter series to the eponymous character in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre,
courage is a trait that many authors use to incite the audience s support and encouragement of the
courageous character. However, courage is not always represented definitively in the same way;
Hermione Granger and Jane Eyre both display courage physically and morally, still, some would
argue that one character is more courageous than the other or that one type of courage is a better
representation of the word. At its core, the debate comes down to a matter of linguistics and the
development of the English language, but more interesting literature stems from the debate of the
socially correct usage, Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird
tackles the challenge of defining
courage. Lee asserts that courage is the act of striving to meet a difficult goal in order to increase
one s positive contribution to a society. This definition of courage is displayed through the actions,
words, and beliefs of the characters; Arthur Boo Radley, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus Finch. Arthur
Boo Radley is a reclusive character who falls victim to Maycomb s small town ideology of
hiding rather than solving its problems, as well as its close knit community of gossip and
rumours. Boo Radley makes an ongoing effort to defy these rumours and break free of his hiding
despite being hindered by nearly every citizen of Maycomb.

  • 2. The Harvard Referencing Style In Academic Literature Introduction Referencing is one of the most important aspects of any academic literature in the modern day scenario. It is the main way through which someone acknowledges the fact that they have borrowed the ideas of someone else, and have used their work for citation ion their work. There are several different kinds of referencing system among which the Harvard referencing style is one of the most popular. The different aspects of the Harvard style along with the main methods through which the style is implemented have been detailed and discussed. Herein, this study is about the Harvard referencing style and detailing the actual point of referencing in the first place. The Actual Point of Referencing Referencing is extremely important while compiling an academic file, as it is the main method of showing acknowledgement to the authors of the work which has been used for ideas in the said academic literature. A failure in this regard leads to people developing the misconception that the author has cheated or plagiarised someone else s work and is now claiming it as their own. Any kind of plagiarism is considered to be a serious offence, especially in the academic circles. • 3. Solomon Asch Conformity Experiments (1951) Essay In 1951, Solomon Asch carried out several experiments on conformity. The aim of these studies was to investigate conformity in a group environment situation. The purpose of these experiments was to see if an individual would be swayed by public pressure to go along with the incorrect answer. Asch believed that conformity reflects on relatively rational process in which people are pressured to change their behaviour. Asch designed experiments to measure the pressure of a group situation upon an individual judgment. Asch wanted to prove that conformity can really play a big role in disbelieving our own senses. Asch initiated his experiment by making one of the particpants at ease. He asked a serious of elementary questions where the four... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The participants seated themselves around a table, these confederates were not known to each other, and most important concept of this experiment relied on the fact all of the participants were working together, but for one. They took turns in a fixed order to call out publicly which of three comparison lines was the same length as a standard line on the left card. In reality only one person was a naive participant who answered second to last, the rest were experimental confederates instructed to give erroneous responses. The results were intriguing as there were large individual differences or variation in responses. However nonetheless what was evident was that 25 percent of participants remained independent throughout the trials, another 50 percent conformed to the erroneous majority in 6 or more trials and another 5 percent conformed on all 12 trials. Therefore the average conformity rate was 33 percent. Asch used quantitative sampling method, which means that a positivist would argue that quantitative data is more accurate because it is scientific. Positivist approach will ensure that Asch experiments are reliable, and easily replicated by someone else and deliver same results. Although he used up to 7 people, Quantitative Data includes statistics and numbers to make his claim for high in reliability and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Lifeblood On Any Online Business Is Traffic And... The lifeblood on any online business is traffic and visibility. To get the most traffic, merchants create affiliate programs, literally a virtual sales team to help promote their site and products. Anyone can sign up to be an affiliate to most affiliate programs. You promote their products, they do all the customer service, shipping, and refunds of the product. You promote, and when the merchant makes a sale from a customer that you referred, you make a commission. The merchant may choose to pay a flat fee or a percentage of the product s price. Let s say you re promoting a $149 product, and the merchant pays you a 50% commission. For every sale you refer, you earn a $74.50 commission. To track the people that you refer to the site, you re given an affiliate link. These are links that are coded with identifiable information so that the merchant knows that the customer came from your link and you are credited with the sale. Some merchants pay as high as 75% commission. Affiliate marketing is probably the easiest way to start an online business. You don t need to have a website, products, a customer service or shipping department. You simply send traffic to the merchant s website, and earn commissions. While it is easy to get started in affiliate marketing, you still need to learn, understand and implement some basic business concepts to be successful. Some of the things you will need to learn are: 1. Choosing the products that are best aligned to your chosen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on military discipline. The tribune called the legion on parade and ordered to the front those who were guilty of desertion of their ranks. He reprimanded them, called them every name he could think of. This was not just another sermon. Everyone knew how it was going to end. Now I want each of you to choose a number, he told them. And by lot one out of every ten men was chosen to pay the penalty. What penalty? On the tribune s order, the army fell on these men their comrades and clubbed them to death, mercilessly. The rest of the guilty men were allowed to live, but possibly they thought death was preferable to the humiliation they had to suffer then. They were told to quarter themselves outside the camp walls, where they were unprotected; and they were given rations of barley horse food rather than wheat for sustenance. There is a lot of biodiversity in mangroves and due to the clearance for urban and rural development, many of these organisms are losing their homes (Patterson). Most of them are in the developing countries and this problem seems to increase in the following years (2). One of the renewable sources of freshwater which has sufficient sanitation is rainfall. Globally precipitation generates supply of 40000 to 45000 km3 per year (3). However, there is not a uniform rainfall for different areas of the world. Developed countries are mostly located in the temperate or tepid latitudes, hence they have more precipitation. On the other hand, developing countries have mostly arid and semi arid climates which they lack in the sufficient rainfall. Imbalance between water needs and its resources has been a crucial issue for these countries. It has been expected that by the year 2025, 34 countries most of them developing nations will experience water scarcity (2) (3). You pass by this pond and noticed that there is a small child drowning and realize there isn t much time to call anyone for help. You could stride into the water and pull her to safety, but If you take the time to remove your shoes and it ll be too late. Singer created a great thought experiment in a way that tests one s moral value, but one flaw would be that there wasn t anyone else around in the situation. You are the only one around in the setting therefore you must help the child. So, the question is, what if there were many people standing around in the same location? However, as domestic violenceis largely a result of societal systems, it is easiest and most thoroughly examined through narratives. Louise Erdrich provides this in Love Medicine. From Hermione Granger in J.K Rowling s Harry Potter series to the eponymous character in Charlotte Bronte s Jane Eyre, courage is a trait that many authors use to incite the audience s support and encouragement of the courageous character. However, courage is not always represented definitively in the same way; Hermione Granger and Jane Eyre both display courage physically and morally, still, some would argue that one character is more courageous than the other or that one type of courage is a better representation of the word. At its core, the debate comes down to a matter of linguistics and the development of the English language, but more interesting literature stems from the debate of the socially correct usage, Harper Lee s To Kill A Mockingbird tackles the challenge of defining courage. Lee asserts that courage is the act of striving to meet a difficult goal in order to increase one s positive contribution to a society. This definition of courage is displayed through the actions, words, and beliefs of the characters; Arthur Boo Radley, Mrs. Dubose, and Atticus Finch. Arthur Boo Radley is a reclusive character who falls victim to Maycomb s small town ideology of hiding rather than solving its problems, as well as its close knit community of gossip and rumours.
