"Digital is an enterprise-wide strategic priority — but there's work to be done," according to Brian Solis and Altimeter, a Prophet company.
Now in its fifth year, our annual “State of Digital Transformation” research continues to document the constantly evolving enterprise. As disruptive technologies and their impact on organizations and markets continue to progress, our research aims to capture the shifts and trends that are shaping modern digital transformation.
In 2019, strategic digital transformation is only becoming more pervasive moving beyond IT to impact competitiveness throughout the organization. Budgets are soaring. The list of disruptive technologies on the radar of stakeholders is expanding. Ownership is moving to the C-Suite and managed by cross-functional, collaborative groups. Customer experience (CX) continues to lead digital transformation investments, but as we observed in 2017, employee experience and organizational culture are also rising in importance to empower and accelerate change, growth, and innovation.
Digital Transformation as an Enterprise-Wide Movement
This year, it’s clear that digital transformation is maturing into an enterprise-wide movement. Digital transformation is modernizing how companies work and compete and helping them effectively adapt and grow in an evolving digital economy.
What’s also evident is that there is still much work to do as companies are, by and large, prioritizing technology over grasping the disruptive trends that are influencing markets and, more specifically, customer and employee behaviors and expectations.

The General Data Protection Regulation and the DAMA DMBOK – Tools you can use for Compliance
Abstract: The General Data Protection Regulation will be the law governing data privacy in Europe in 2018. Surveys show that less than 50% of organisations are aware of the changes within the legislation, and even fewer have any plan for achieving compliance. In this session, Daragh O Brien takes us on a high level overview of the GDPR and how the disciplines of the DMBOK can help compliance.
Notes: DMBOK is an abbreviation for the "Data Management Book of Knowledge" which is published by DAMA International (The Data Management Association)
With a fine of up to 4% of an organisation’s annual turnover on the line, Individuals accountable and responsible for data protection are actively seeking clarification and advice regarding the impending changes to the EU General Data Protection Regulation.
The question now? How prepared are you to meet the EU General Data Protection Regulation?
IRM’s resident Data Protection expert Paul Sexby, addresses the areas that need to be considered in order to prepare for the new requirements.
GDPR is the most significant change to data protection in a generation and an imminent global issue that will dominate data privacy, management and regulation discussions in 2017. According to recent research, over half of businesses lack preparedness for GDPR. With a quarter of the EU’s grace period over and with fines of up to €20 million (or 4% of global turnover), there is a lot at stake for companies falling behind the May 2018 deadline. Digital Business Transformation | Strategy + Executionfeature[23]
Speed of innovation and certainty of your digital technology strategy is your new IP.
Market leading brands know they are competing in the 3rd Industrial Revolution – The Software Economy – and they will live or die by their digital adoption. Companies mature in digital business transformation are outperforming, making more money, and are more profitable than their peers.
These Digital Leaders are proactively transforming their business models and leading their segments through the frenetic pace of social, mobile, analytics, cloud, and the Internet of Everything. Unfortunately, digital is still shrouded in confusion, viewed as a cost center, and punished with inadequate funding.
How do you transform modern businesses at scale by creating technology-based capabilities, products, services, and business outcomes that delivers your authentic brand promise?
Didier Bonnet: Oracle Open World Presentation on #LeadingDigitalCapgemini
Didier Bonnet, Capgemini Consulting’s global head of digital transformation and coauthor (with MIT’s George Westerman and Andrew McAfee) of the upcoming book Leading Digital, delivered his keynote presentation at Oracle Open World on 30th September in San Francisco. In his keynote session "Leading Digital Transformation Now—No Matter What Business You’re In", Bonnet highlights how large companies in traditional industries—from finance to manufacturing to pharmaceuticals—are using digital to gain strategic advantage. Bonnet also highlights the principles and practices that lead to successful digital transformation based on a two-part framework: where to invest in digital capabilities, and how to lead the transformation.
Digital transformation report sweden july 2017Ola Reppling
Digital Transformation Report 2017
@Qvartz and Microsoft have interviewed leading Swedish companies in many industries about Digital Transformation and the practical aspects of it. Understanding the What, Why and How of Digital Transformation. There are many commonalities across industries and between companies, but my key take-away is that there is no silver bullet. You can’t use the cookie cutter and use the same solution over and over again. Each company and situation is different and therefor each company approach needs to be different, both in What, How and timing. This report strengthens my view that Microsoft is in a unique position to support our customers as we continue to invest in both our platform, but more importantly, in our customer relationships.
When we are in a strategic partnership with our customers we can really support them in all stages of the Digital Transformation Maturity Curve. Many of our larger customers have different units/divisions that are in different stages of the maturity curve and Microsoft’s flexible, scalable and versatile platform and way of working allows us to support the customer as needed in throughout the company.
The report also reinforces the validity and importance of Microsoft’s four pillars of Digital Transformation: Engage your customer, Empower your employees, Optimize your operations and Transform your products.
The report will give you a benchmark of where Swedish customers are on their Digital Transformation journey and some insights into the What, Why and How.
Curated an great dialogue with the AITP San Diego organization in May 2015 on the importance of DevOps to all organizations taking the Digital Enterprise journey.
The year 2016, will see many organizations and enterprises rapidly moving towards adoption of the digitalization and digital business.
This presentation highlights what would be the top 10 trends and directions that enterprises will increasingly adopt to ensure superior customer experiences, competitive advantage and/or IT optimization for improved services and cost takeout.
Digital transformation is fundamentally changing people’s lives and the
ways companies do business. Around the world, we’re working to develop
solutions that give time back, make us safer and healthier, and bring
significant environmental benefits. People around the world are working
hard to create a future where we’re never delayed during air travel due to
mechanical issues. Where smart buildings have ambient intelligence that
allows meeting rooms to adjust to your preferences. They’re envisioning a
world where automobile accidents are almost nonexistent, and your car
becomes a living room or office on wheels. And a world where medical
treatment is personalized based on your DNA, dramatically improving your
health and quality of life. This is what Microsoft calls the digital difference.
We asked Harvard Business Review Analytic Services to help us look at the pace of innovation
and how prepared business leaders are for this change. We also wanted to know what projects
mattered most and what industries were most receptive to and ready for change.
We were surprised by the strategy gap and encouraged by the optimism. Business leaders know
their industries are ripe for transformation, and in most cases are eager to bring the benefits of
technology to their businesses.
At Microsoft, we aim to partner with business leaders to find the digital difference they can make.
Partnering with companies of all sizes, we recognize that one big idea isn’t enough anymore.
Decades ago an innovative shoe design, a beautiful device, or smartly designed software could
lead a company to achieve market dominance for a long time. But now micro revolutions occur
every 12-18 months, so companies must be in a continual state of transformation.
We are moving into a time when rapid innovation and speed to market are more critical than ever.
This makes the partnership between humans and machines critical—when we combine people’s
ideas and creativity with advanced technology, we get digital leadership.
A business leader interviewed for the study said we need to transform “the engine of the
company.” To do this, leaders need to bring in tech and cultural changes that empower their
employees, engage customers in new ways, optimize operations, and transform products.
Rebuilding an organization around these areas creates a fully digital company that can change
ahead of its customers and competition.
The Digital Enterprise: CIO perspectivesMWD Advisors
In February 2014 MWD Advisors carried out an online survey with a group of 41 CIOs and other IT leaders. Only genuine IT leaders’ responses were counted.
We asked this group questions about their current maturity in different Digital Enterprise enabler/ingredient areas, and their investment priorities among those same areas. We also asked them to tell us where they thought the value from each area would come from.
The Rise of Digital Darwinism and the Real-world Business Drivers for Digital...Brian Solis
Digital transformation (DX) is shaping the future of business. While it can mean different things to different leaders, DX is about migrating from on-premises and labor-based models to the cloud, then complementing migration with cloud capabilities and agility. But to stop there would miss the full potential of using the cloud to enable DX.
The potential of DX is the sum of its parts: “digital” and “transformation.” Explored in isolation, we’re limited to either the constant pursuit and implementation of new technologies that enhance capabilities or a focus on change to modernize and become more efficient and innovative. Combined, they represent the future of business, how it operates, how it serves customers and employees, and how it adapts to industry evolution.
DX is continuous, never ends, and never a “won and done” series of checked boxes. DX is how organizations continually respond to disruptive events, trends, and technologies – beyond IT. The most effective partners in a DX journey explore existing states and capabilities within, benchmark those results against industry best practices and customer needs, and apply those insights to a strategic digital transformation plan of their own.
Future-proofing public sector and commercial businesses starts with future-proofing partner businesses. The PTP is an accelerator to drive DX and business modernization from B2B all the way to B2C. The PTP provides partners with the guidance to accelerate the development of their AWS skills and expertise to better serve their government, education, or nonprofit and also commercial customers’ journeys to the cloud.
Introducing the AWS Partner Transformation Program eBook
For PTP partners to get started, AWS created a DX playbook “The AWS Partner Transformation Program: Setting the Stage to Transformation Your Business.”
The eBook explores digital trends, DX methodologies, and the needs and areas of opportunity for partner organizations. The eBook can help PTP partners chart a “transformation plan” to set the stage for their customers’ digital transformation.
The time is now to future-proof your business to future-proof your customer's business.

9. Traditional ITSM facts and fiction
• ITIL is process based
• ITIL is heavy influenced by infrastructure, hence the name
• ITIL works best for traditional IT that have a more waterfall approach to
ITSM
• You don’t need ITSM if you have your services in the cloud.

PUBLIC
How did we end up with these views?
• The core ITIL books consist of a lot about process
However it also talks about people and culture
• It talks about outcomes not outputs but shows outputs for each process
Adopt and adapt is talked about a lot but we have relied on consultants &
trainers to provide guidance to the enterprise
• Change is rigid and controlled and heavily based on the CAB
This is an often quoted misconception

What has ITIL to offer to digital
transformation?
• ITIL is non prescriptive
• It is flexible
• It is based on outcomes not outputs
• By using your risk appetite and technology enablers you can adopt and adapt ITIL to
your organization
• New guidance has been released The ITIL practitioner

What are Axelos top tips?
1. Always remember that YOU are accountable for YOUR service.
2. Outcomes are what matters not outputs, define what you want and measure them.
3. Communication is vital.
4. Create an organizational culture around service management.
5. Ensure that measures are MEANINGFUL and contribute towards outcomes.
6. Work in small steps ensuring that the changes are embedded.
7. Understand your needs and partner with your service provider if possible.
52. • Agile support is the continuation of the core agile principles that have been followed
within the delivery phase after a service has gone live…
• Individuals and interactions over processes and tools
• Working software over comprehensive documentation
• Customer collaboration over contract negotiation
• Responding to change over following a plan
• Support Team Structure
• Developers
• WebOps
• Analysts / Architects
• Scrum Master
• Security
• UX
Agile Support
What is Agile Support?
53. • Essentially both are Agile methodologies but Kanban work would be
ongoing and not broken into individual sprints.
• Scrum approach isn’t suited to Support as emergency incidents
received would disrupt a running sprint.
• Kanban very customisable. Every instance of it will be completely
different (eg. Different workflow, limits, etc.) therefore easily
adaptable to teams / projects / customers.
Kanban v Scrum
What’s the difference?
54. A method for managing knowledge work with an
emphasis on just-in-time delivery while not
overloading the team members.
Key components are a recognised workflow, a
mechanism to visualise it and metrics to measure
effectiveness.
Work limits are key where certain states or members
cannot be overloaded (ie. Work-in-progress limits)
What is Kanban?
Kanban
55. • If you try to do more things at the same time, you will take longer to complete them all
• Better to focus on highest priority/quickest win items to ensure continuous progress
• Work In Progress (WIP) limits restrict the volume of tasks engineers are allocated creating focus
How does Kanban help?
Kanban helps focus and prioritise
56. • Agile delivery doesn’t stop with Go-Live
• Clients require a continuation of Agile delivery throughout project lifecycle
• Once Support take over there’s still a requirement for continuous
improvement
• Kanban is the best fit as engineers handle multiple incidents across
multiple projects continuously
• Greater chance of continued business as uninterrupted service
management following delivery support transition
Kanban in Support
Why Kanban in Support?
57. • Get organised within your team and your project
• Create a visualisation method (ie. Board)
• Be dedicated – It will not be second nature at first and will need to be worked at
• Evolve with it – Don’t stick with an element that’s not working. Change is perfectly fine
within Kanban so make it your own
Getting Started with Kanban in Support
How to begin with Kanban
• Someone to “lead”
• Daily calendar 10min morning stand-up invite to all team members
• What did you do yesterday?
• What are you going to do today?
• What blockers are in the way of making progress?
• **Do not discuss the details of the incident**
• Large whiteboards fixed on the walls
• Regular sweep comparisons of the board to KIM
• Managers have to participate too
How to adopt Kanban
60. • Before Go-Live…
• Embedded support staff for final 2-4 sprints
• ½ funded by support & ½ funded by delivery
• Full collaboration within delivery team as scrum resources
• Knowledge transfer & Skilling up
• After Go-Live…
• Improved documentation brought back to support
• Improved visibility of support staff by the customer
• Service design package creation leading to new delivery phase (ie. DVLA phase 2)
DVLA Support
DVLA Case Study
61. • High-profile GDS exemplar project for online electoral registrations
• Unique on-site familiarisation transition phase following go-live into support
• 2 support staff embedded into GDS onsite for 6 weeks to assist with delivery of
change and gather knowledge (1 x WebOps & 1 x Application)
• Kanban support of all incidents, change and service requests
• Kainos Incident Management (KIM)
• Kanbanflow.com
• ITIL-aligned support delivery
• Sprint-based delivery of change
• Mixed team of WebOps and Application executing fortnightly sprints of pre-agreed
backlog changes
• Daily remote stand-ups with direct Cabinet Office involvement
Cabinet Office (IER) Support
IER Case Study
62. • An increase in work items within a specific column indicates a blockage during that life cycle phase
• An increase in coloured cards / “dots” indicates a project/engineer overload
• A reduction in lead times indicates an improvement in service management to the customer
Measuring Agile Success
How to tell when agile is working
63. • Kanban adopted within support in June - piloted across a number of teams
• Clear reduction in lead times across all agile projects (Pre-Kanban avg vs Post-Kanban avg)
• Seamless transition of delivery stories into support tickets

64. Challenges for Agile Support so far
Offsite
• Physical board impossible to
see so unable to know
allocated tasks
• Inability to update the board
with progress to inform other
team members or add new
tickets
• Solution! Digital version
using Kanbanflow.com and
dual updating adopted
M Integration
• Need to stop duplication of effort in
replicating KIM (incident) details
• Retain KIM security and confidentiality
so 3rd party tool has to be limited to
KIM# and title only
• Solution! Potential project for
someone to create a
kanban.kainos.com which hooks
directly into KIM, shows all projects
and is secure enough to display full
incident details
Adoption
• Encourage team enthusiasm
towards stand-ups and board
editing
• Diligent attendance of stand-ups
• Keeping update content to a
minimum
• Solution! Perseverance and
recognition that it is worth it to
have better organisation and
improved service
65. • What are the current gaps in the delivery of support on Agile projects?
• How do we ensure support is considered from the outset of a project?
• How can we ensure that the relevant governance is in place for a service as soon as it
goes live?
• Should there be a separate Support team on an Agile project, or is it a continuation of
Development post go-Live?
• If separate teams:
• Should we embed support engineers within the current delivery team, and when?
• Should we facilitate the use of delivery staff in a supporting role post go live?
• How do we address the allocation of work between break fix, enhancements and
continuous improvements?
Agile Challenges
What agile challenges are still present?
66. Successes of Agile Support so far
Organisation
• Much better visibility of your
workload
• Better daily planning as a
result of stand-ups
• Improved teamwork as
immediately obvious what
other team members are
doing allowing distribution of
incidents more efficiently
Customer Service
• Improved lead times from open to
close
• Regular prompting of customer-owned
incidents
• Improved customer service satisfaction
ratings
• No visible gap in service provision to
the customer. Continued agile
throughout.
Management
• Better visibility of engineer
workloads
• Better visibility of project
workloads
• Earlier visibility of incident
blockers as a result of stand-ups
• Less interaction with the team
required
67. • Scrubbing the defects
• Time-bound sprints
• Support and development team collaboration
• Transparency/Visibility
• Focusing on Business Value
• Improving Quality
• Focusing on Customers
• Stakeholder Engagement
• Application of best practices from Agile/ITIL combined
