Pagudpud was formerly Barangay
Tongotong, a part of the neighboring
municipality of Bangui in the years before
World War II.
Do you know the reason behind the name of
the place?
The students do their tasks
cooperatively.
Vigan. Mestizo District. Ilocos Sur
Found in the City of Vigan, the
Mestizo district is one of the most
prominent tourist destinations in the
Philippines. It contains the largest
concentration of ancestral homes and
other colonial-era architecture in the
Philippines, built by Chinese
merchants who settled in Vigan. The
houses are still preserved and
maintained by the Ilocos Sur Tourism
Information Center. The district is
included in the list of UNESCO
World Heritage Sites in the
Philippines.
Pagudpud is hailed as the “Boracay
of the North,” sans the gazillion
tourists. The secluded Maira-ira
Beach brings the vacationer a most
sought-after relaxation, as there are
hardly any visitors on these fantastic
shores. One can also see a view of the
Bangui Windmills, the magnificent
power generators situated in Bangui
Bay.
According to a folk tale, the name
Pagudpud came from a merchant
traveling from Batangas, who had
asked if he could rest in one of the
houses in the barangay. The
merchant, who could not speak nor
understand a single word of Ilocano,
would only say “Ako'y pagud na
pagod at ang sapatos ko'y pudpod” (I
am very tired and my shoes are worn
out) when asked by the villagers
about his purpose. Despite not being
able understand Tagalog, the
villagers adopted the phrase.
A few months later, a Tagalog-
speaking Bicolano man, who was

In what Region do you think all these
beautiful places belong?
That is correct!
Region 1 is also called Ilocos Region because
it is the home to majority of the Ilocano and
the seat of Ilokano culture, heritage, language
and of course literature.
Do you know that Ilocos means “people in
the river”?
looking for a certain logging
company in the province, stopped in
the barangay to ask for its name.
Since the villagers did not understand
his question, they simply replied with
the only Tagalog phrase that they
knew: “Ako'y pagud na pagod at ang
sapatos ko'y pudpod,” which the
Bicolano interpreted as a barangay
named Pagudpod. The name
eventually became Pagudpud.
Regarded as the "Surfing Capital of
the North," this stretch of white sand
beach facing the South China Sea is a
must-go place for surfers and
watersports lovers.
San Juan is a 3rd
class municipality
in the province of La Union.
Our Lady Of Manaog Church is
also known as the Shrine of the
Nuestra Senora de Manaoag.
Located in Manaoag, Pangasinan, the
church was established by Captain
Gaspar de Gamboa in 1720 and was
donated to the Dominicans in 1722.
